Indian Idol’s Two-Day Celebration Was a Reunion of Dreams, Memories and Magical Music

Some television shows entertain us for a couple of seasons and others become part of our lives. Indian Idol belongs to the second category. On the 4 and 5 of July 2026, Sony Entertainment Television celebrated the 75thepisode of Indian Idol Season 16. The event brought together singers from different seasons, reminding viewers why the show has remained one of India’s most loved musical platforms. It was not just a reunion, it was a celebration of dreams that had taken flight, friendships that had endured and music that had only grown richer with time.

The show started with the host Aditya Narayan setting the tone with his effortless charm, welcoming back familiar faces amid thunderous applause. The celebration opened on a spectacular note when Myscmme a contestant of Season 15, returned as a wildcard entry in Season 16 and Nihal Tauro finalist of Season 12 rendered “Janam Janam.” The flawless vocals and effortless chemistry set the perfect tone for the evening. Highly impressed, Judge Badshah summed up everyone’s feelings in one sentence: “What a great way to start!”

Before the applause could even subside, the stage picked up momentum and came alive again as Anshika Chonkar from Season 16 and Shanmukha Priya finalist of season 12 took over the stage and sang “Hare Krishna Hare Rama.” It was an energetic, powerful and impossible to ignore performance. The auditorium was infused with infectious energy. Badshah was so impressed that he compared their rendition with that of the legendary Asha Bhosle—high praise indeed!

One of the evening’s biggest nostalgic moments was when Vishal Dadlani invited Abhijeet Sawant, winner of the very first season, to sing “Mohabbatein Lutaunga,” the song that introduced him to the nation. The surprise became more profound when Amit Sana runner-up of the first season joined him on stage after more than two decades. Watching the two recreate a memorable chapter of Indian Idol was enough to transport viewers back to where it all began.It prompted Judge Badshah to declare this as a “Speaker Phod” performance.

There was never a dull moment during the evening. Salman Ali winner of Season 10 and Chaitanya Devadhe of Season 15 and a wild card entry in Season 16, took the stage with the high-octane number “Marjaneya Ni, AajMere Ji Karda.” The energy of this performance was absolutely electrifying. From the very first note, the duo had the audience completely captivated. The contestants were on their feet, the audience clapped along enthusiastically and Vishal could only describe the performance as “magical.”

Just as the excitement had reached its peak, actor Ravi Kishan made an entry as chief guest and instantly changed the mood with his humour. A lively game of Dumb Charades involving former contestants, had everyone laughing, proving that the evening wasn’t only about singing but also about celebrating friendships formed over the years.

The pace slowed beautifully when Prajakta Shukre from season 1 who reached top 4, now an established singer and composer, joined Tanishk Shukla to sing “Hawa Ke Saath Saath.” It was soft, romantic and beautifully rendered number. Tanishk, in particular, continues to grow with every performance. His confidence, expression and maturity as a singer has become more evident each time he steps onto the stage.

The tempo of the show seemed to keep changing unpredictably as and when the stage is taken over by the next contestant. Sreerama Chandra, winner of Season 5, made a stylish entry accompanied by a troupe of dancers performing on the pulsating number “Allah Duhai Hai” establishing the perfect atmosphere for what was to come.

The Host then welcomed Manraj Veer contestant of the present season 16 and Manushi Ghosh winner of Season 15 to the stage. Among the evening’s most touching moments was Manushi’s appearance andAditya presented her with a symbolic keychain bearing a tiny house on one side and a car on the other, representing the gifts she had proudly bought for her parents. Ravi Kishan praised her achievement and her values, and an emotional Manushi struggled to hold back her tears. The mood quickly shifted back to celebration as Manraj Veer and Manushi Ghosh rendered the lively number “Que Sera Sera.” This was followed up with the foot-tapping “Main Toh Aiven Aiven Lut Gaya” bringing the house down with their infectious energy and spirited performance. Their electrifying act earned Badshah’s coveted verdict of a “Speaker-Phod” performance.

Another memorable duet came from Sneha Shankar and Chaitanya with “Der Na Ho Jaye Kahin Der Na Ho Jaye.” Sneha’s effortless high notes and beautiful classical touches left the audience spellbound.

At this point the celebrations paused briefly when Aditya announced that Badshah had officially secured a place among the world’s most-viewed hip-hop artists on YouTube. Though delighted, the rapper smiled and admitted that he was still aiming for the Number One spot—a reminder that every achievement is only another step towards a bigger dream. With Badshah’s inspiring announcement, the curtain came down on the first day of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. But the festivities were far from over. The celebrations resumed the following day with the same enthusiasm, promising another memorable evening of music, nostalgia, and entertainment.

Setting the tone for day two was Sreerama Chandra performing on the song “Bang Bang” with his troupe of dancers. He was then joined by Jyotirmoy for the challenging songby Ravi Kishen “Mere Dholna.” The classical part was rendered with such remarkable ease that the judges began applauding even before the song ended. Ravi Kishan admitted that he had deliberately chosen one of the most difficult songs, and the singers had exceeded every expectation.

Next, Myscmme and Pawandeep Rajan tookcontrol of the stage and recreated the magic of classic Bollywood ever-green song “Dhak Dhak Karne Laga” and “Tum Paas Aaye Youn Muskuraye” one after another. Badshah called this performance “old-school playback singing,” appreciating the melody and simplicity that made the songs so memorable.

One of the most emotional segments belonged to Asees Kaur of season 6 whose time as a contestant was relatively short for she did not reach the finale. Despite this setback, she established herself as a highly successful playback singer winning multiple Filmfare awards for her song “Raatan Lambiyan.” After Aditya’s light-hearted humour, the singer made her entry and Indian Idol played clips from her days as a contestant. Watching her own journey unfold on the screen left Asees visibly moved. Her simple words— “I got much more than I deserved”—perhaps said everything about what the show has meant to so many young singers. After regaining her composure, she sang “Mahi Bolna” originally sung by her and Arijeet Singh.

Until this point, there was a divine element missing from the celebrations and that changed when Sohail Sufi of Season 16 and Mohd Danish from Season 12 presented the timeless Sufi composition “Chaap Tilak Sab Cheeni Mose Naina Milayke.” The atmosphere in the hall changed completely. For a few magical minutes everyone seemed immersed in the music. Vishal Dadlani stood up to applaud, soon joined by the contestants. It was one of those performances that stays with you long after it ends.

Aditya Narayan, who never lets emotions linger for too long, quickly restored the fun by persuading Ravi Kishan to sing and dance to a humorous folk number “Phulauri Bina Chatni Kaise Bani.” Laughter returned to the auditorium and kept everyone entertained. The atmosphere changed as soon as Manraj Veerand Asees Kaur took over with “Ve Kamleya” and the lively number “Koi Yahan Nache Nache.” Ravi Kishan praised Manraj’s voice and his effortless swag while complimenting Asees for her consistency and the heights she has reached in her career.

The programme churned out more surprises by inviting Ashish Kulkarni of season 12 who introduced his wife Swara Nidhi, a Marathi singer and an influencer. She was soon persuaded to take over as a host for a few moments before Ashish and Jyotirmayee Nayak contestant of season 16, sang the romantic “Aye Mere Sanam, Mar Mitenge Hum.” Swara herself later delighted the audience with a spirited Marathi song “Awaz Vadhva Tula Aye Chi Shapath” alongside Anshika, adding a refreshing regional flavour to the evening.

Anshika and Sreerama Chandra sang 2 numbers one after another “Ek Din Kabhi Jo khud ko Tarashe” and “O Humdum Suniyo Re” which was much appreciated by Judge Badshah, contestants and the audience.

If there was one performance that combined devotion and vocal power, it was “Deva Shree Ganesha.” Which was performed with tremendous energy by Chaitanya Devadhe,Salman Ali, Mohd Danish and Vaibhav Gupta. As the performance was going on, an artist portraying Lord Ganesha appeared on the stage. Many in the audience folded their hands while others were visibly emotional. It was a goose bump-inducing moment. Entire auditorium echoed with the chant “Hare Ram, Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare.”Vishal perhaps summed it up best when he remarked that only one of these singers alone could blow the roof off the auditorium—here there were four. It was a power packed performance.

Finally, it was left to Abhijeet Sawant, Amit Sana and Prajakta Shukre to bid farewell with “Kal Rahe Na Rahe Hum, Yaad Aayenge Hum.” Originally immortalised by the late KK, the song carried an emotion that touched everyone present. It was the perfect way to end two unforgettable evenings.

As all good things come to an end, so did this memorable celebration. Yet there was one feeling shared by everyone in the auditorium—the audience wanted to hear more, and the singers were just as eager to keep singing.

Perhaps that is Indian Idol’s greatest achievement. It is no longer just a singing competition. It is a family that keeps growing, a stage where dreams continue to come true, and a reminder that good music never grows old.

Long after the final applause faded, one thing remained—the music had found its way home once again.

Lohri is generally celebrated on January 13th every year by lighting a bonfire. However, it’s much more than just a bonfire; it is a festival of gratitude and transition. It marks the harvest of the Rabi crops (winter crops), particularly sugarcane. Farmers offer thanks to the Sun God for a bountiful harvest.

Lohri also signifies the passing of the winter solstice. It is believed to be the coldest day of the year, thereafter, the days start becoming longer and warmer as the sun moves toward the Northern Hemisphere (Makar Sankranti).

This festival is primarily celebrated in North India - Punjab, Hariyana, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. The celebration is a community-focused event filled with music, food, and fire.

Bonfire: In the evening, people gather in open space to light a large bonfire. This symbolizes the Sun God and is a way to seek blessings and warmth. People walk around the fire (Parikrama) and throw Til (sesame seeds), Gajak, Gur (jaggery), Moongphali (peanuts), and Popcorn into the flames as an offering.

Traditional Food: The festive meal always include Sarson da Saag (mustard greens) and Makki di Roti (cornbread), followed by sweet snacks made of sesame and jaggery.

Song and Dance: The night is incomplete without the beat of the Dhol. Men perform the energetic Bhangra, while women perform Gidda around the fire.

Music: You often hear songs about Dulla Bhatti, a legendary hero who lived during the reign of Emperor Akbar and is known for rescuing young girls from being sold.

3. Dulla Bhatti walla ho! (Dulla of the Bhatti clan!)

After music, it’s the food that’s important during festivities and for Lohri, one of the famous food is sarson da saag. This slow-cooked delicacy is the soul of Punjabi winters. The secret to a great saag is the combination of different greens and the "tadka." Want to try this delicacy out? Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

The Greens: 500g Mustard leaves (Sarson), 250g Spinach (Palak), 100g Bathua (Chenopodium/Pigweed).

The Thickener: 2-3 tbsp Maize flour (Makki ka Atta).

The Flavor: 2 inches Ginger (finely chopped), 10-12 cloves Garlic, 3-4 Green chillies.

The Tadka: 2 tbsp Ghee, 1 finely chopped Onion, a pinch of Hing (Asafoetida).

Steps to cook:

Wash all the leaves thoroughly and chop them finely.

Pressure Cook: Add the greens, half the ginger, half the garlic, green chillies, and a cup of water to a pressure cooker. Cook for 3-4 whistles until very soft.

Mash: Once cool, mash the greens traditionally using a madhani (wooden masher) or pulse them briefly in a blender. Keep it coarse, not a smooth puree.

Thicken: shift the saag to a pot. Dissolve the Makki ka Atta in a little water to make a paste and stir it into the saag. Simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

The Tadka: In a separate pan, heat Ghee. Add hing, the remaining ginger, garlic, and the chopped onions. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown. Pour this aromatic tadka over the simmering saag and mix well. Serve it hot with a large dollop of white butter or ghee and have with Makki ki Roti.

Kongthong's Whistling melodies.

Nestled deep within the rugged and verdant East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, India, lies the village of Kongthong, globally renowned as the “Whistling Village” or “Singing Village.” This small hamlet, home to the indigenous Khasi community, possess a profound cultural anomaly. The residents communicate with each other not primarily through spoken names, but through distinct, personalized melodies. This centuries-old practice, while a curiosity to the outside world, serves as a vital linguistic tool, a deep expression of identity, and a potent symbol of the community’s inseparable connection to nature.

The heart of Kongthong’s culture lies in the custom known locally as Jingrwai Iawbei, which translates roughly to “Mother's Love Song.” In this tradition, when a child is born, the mother composes a specific, often lengthy, musical tune that becomes the child’s lifelong melodic name. This tune is inspired by the sounds of the surrounding natural world, sometimes echoing the call of a particular bird or the rush of the wind. Critically, these melodies are never reused; once a person passes away, their tune is retired, making each melody a singular and irreplaceable identifier. This practice is strongly tied to the Khasi people’s matrilineal society, where lineage is traced through the mother, cementing the musical name as a profound expression of maternal love and ancestral respect.

The immense significance of this whistling language is practical, personal, and spiritual. Practically, the tunes are a highly effective form of communication across the steep hills and dense forests that define the region. A spoken name can be easily lost in the mist or dense foliage, but a unique, high-pitched whistle carries further and penetrates the natural acoustic landscape more clearly. Culturally, the Jingrwai Iawbei serves as a powerful instrument of social cohesion. Using a melody to summon someone is a gesture of deep intimacy and belonging, fundamentally different from a formal, spoken name. Furthermore, some folklore suggests the tunes served a protective function, enabling villagers to call one another in the forest without attracting the attention of hostile spirits, who might be confused by the natural-sounding melodies.

Kongthong did not receive its popular name from a founding figure or historical event, but entirely from the remarkable cultural custom practiced by its inhabitants. The actual village name, Kongthong, refers to the location itself, but its worldwide identity as the "Whistling Village" is a descriptive title bestowed by outsiders captivated by the Jingrwai Iawbei. While the precise historical start date of the tradition is unknown, according to some, it is five centuries old. The long, formal version of the tune is used for calling over distance, while a shorter, abbreviated version serves as a nickname for close-range conversation. This duality highlights the embedded nature of the custom, which has evolved to accommodate both the necessities of the rugged terrain and the closeness of community life.

Kongthong Village is far more than just a geographic location; it is a dynamic example of intangible cultural heritage. Its unique identity, stemming directly from the Jingrwai Iawbei tradition, represents a harmonious blend of human creativity and environmental adaptation. The personalized melodies serve not only as functional communication across difficult terrain but also as a powerful, non-verbal system of identity, love, and community respect that reinforces the Khasi tribe’s matrilineal roots. As modern pressures of urbanisation and tourism increase, the community’s commitment to preserving its melodic names remains a crucial act of cultural resilience, ensuring the songs of the ancestors continue to echo through the hills.

The Jingrwai lawbei is used exclusively for internal communication within the village and is not used for official or external purposes like job applications, travel or government records. Every child in Kongthong receives an official conventional written name in addition to their musical tune. The conventional written name is documented on their birth certificate and official ID papers as the tune is impossible to write down as a name on a document.

The Hornbill Festival of Nagaland

The Hornbill Festival which is celebrated every year in Nagaland from the 1^st to the 10^th of December showcase the state’s rich heritage and traditions of Nagaland. This year’s celebration was even more pertinent as it coincided with Nagaland’s 62^nd Statehood Day. Nagaland celebrated 25^thHornbill Festival this year, and the turnout was an astounding 1.75 lakh attendees from all over the globe. The event was organised as always, at Kisama Heritage Village located in the southern Angami region of Kohima District.

Rekha and Sumant Bayankar, a couple from Sanikpuri in Hyderabad, travelled to Nagaland specifically to attend the Hornbill Festival held from December 1^st to 10^th. Rekha Bayankar asserted “It was a marvellous experience and must admit, it’s once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” She further stated “we were mesmerised by the vibrant culture and dance performances of 17 Naga tribes along with their food, music and folklore-all in one place.”

While the visitors enjoyed the Hornbill national dance competition, showcasing a variety of tribal dance forms, they also had the opportunity to learn crafts like weaving, pottery and beadwork at the event. All the 17 Naga tribes have their own signature jewellery and clothes, leaving the visitors absolutely smitten with the variety of styles exhibited. Each Naga tribe have their own language. The festival is concluded with the Hornbill international music festival featuring performances by local and international artists.

Hornbill festival is named after a bird that is a symbol of beauty, grace and fidelity as per the folklore. In order to promote tourism and celebrate the festivals of 17 major tribes: Angami, Ao, Chakhesang, Chang, Kachari, Khiamniiungan, Konyak, Kuki, Lotha, Phom, Pochury, Rengma, Sangtam, Sumi, Tikhir, Yimkhiung, Zeliang along with several sub-tribes of Nagaland, the Government of Nagaland introduced Hornbill Festival in the year 2000. The festival is organised by the State’s Tourism and Art and Culture Department to encourage inter-ethnic interaction to promote cultural heritage of Nagaland. Nagaland is famous for its cuisines, monasteries and is home to lush green rain-forest that houses a vast range of medicinal plants.

For the Hornbill festival, visitors had to buy a pass costing INR.100/- per day, per person.

While in Nagaland, some souvenirs to buy include wood carvings, baskets, pottery, colourful and intricate handicrafts, handwoven shawls and paintings etc.

Historical Narratives of INS Khukri

INS Khukri, a notable vessel of the Indian Navy, was part of the Leander-class frigates and played a significant role in the naval history of India. The ship was commissioned on December 23, 1971, during a period marked by geopolitical tensions in South Asia. Named after the traditional Khukri knife used by the Gurkhas, it symbolizes bravery and valour.

INS Khukri was built in the United Kingdom and was one of the four ships belonging to the Leander-class, which were designed to enhance the capabilities of the Indian Navy during 1960s and 70s. With a displacement of approximately 3,200 tons, it was equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry for anti-aircraft and anti-submarine warfare, reflective of its era's technological advancements.

The most significant chapter in the history of INS Khukri unfolded during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. The war was primarily connected with the Bangladesh Liberation movement, and India intervened to assist the Bangladeshi people against the oppressive regime of West Pakistan. INS Khukri played an active role in naval operations, providing support to Indian ground forces and executing strategic missions in the conflict.

On December 9, 1971, while INS Khukri was on patrol near the coast of Gujarat, the ship was struck by two torpedoes by the Pakistan Navy using their submarine PNS Hangor. This resulted in the sinking of INS Khukri leading to significant loss of life and marking a critical moment in naval warfare. Out of a crew of 197, 18 crew members perished and many others sustained injuries. The sinking of Khukri was a reminder of the brutal realities of naval conflict and the vulnerabilities present even in larger naval operations.

The legacy of INS Khukri extends beyond its tragic sinking. It serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by naval personnel during the war and their contribution to India’s military history. The loss also catalysed improvements in naval strategies and tactics for the Indian Navy, prompting advancements in sonar technology, anti-submarine warfare, and overall naval preparedness. The Khukri's last voyage is not just a tale of loss; it encapsulates the spirit of bravery, determination, and honour among the Indian naval forces, reinforcing the need for continuous improvement and vigilance. The incident highlighted the importance of strategic understanding and the necessity for strong countermeasures against sub-surface threats.

Gir National Park, located in Gujarat, India, is renowned for its diverse wildlife, particularly the Asiatic lions. This is the only Park in India which nurtures these royal animals. Gir National Park was established to protect Asiatic Lions along with Leopards and antelopes. This is the only place after Africa that has more Asiatic lions. Gir National Park consists of a mixed deciduous forest interspersed with semi-evergreen and evergreen trees, scrub jungle, large patches of grasslands and rocky hills. It’s the largest dry deciduous forest in western India.

Total area of Gir National Park is 1,412 sq. kms out of which National park covers 258 sq. kms; wild sanctuary covers 1,153 sq. kms and buffer zone is 470 sq. kms. With a focus on protecting the Asiatic lion population, conservation measures have led to an increase in population of lions, thereby enhancing wildlife tourism. There is often a push toward educating visitors about the importance of conservation and the role of various species in the ecosystem. There is also an ongoing amendment to regulate the number of visitors to minimize human impact on the park and its ecosystem. Improvements are part of the regular up-keeping which include better roads, more informative signage, and upgraded accommodations for tourists.

The 1.8-meter-wide suspension bridge has a 160-meter span and is made of steel cables to withstand extreme weather including powerful winds and earthquakes.

A number of activities are available for tourists at the bridge, boating being the most favourite. Boats can be hired for a trip under the bridge. In the lake, one can also avail speed boating, motor boating, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, zip lining, cycling, camping and hiking.

Besides the Laknavaram Lake, other attractions around the area are Ramappa Temple also known as the Rudeshwara temple (UNESCO World Heritage site), Thousand pillar temple, Kakitya rock garden, kakitya musical garden and Badrakali temple.

Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple

Gangeshwar Temple dedicated to lord Shiv is located at Seashore of Fudam Village just 3 kilometers from Diu, Gujarat in the union territory of DNDD (Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu). The view of the temple is uniquely set on the Arabian sea. As this temple is situated on the beach, the gentle sea waves offering their obeisance to the “shivlings” have a mystic aura around them in the cave temple of Gangeshwar, where the lord makes his presence felt.

It is believed that the 5 Pandavs (Yudhishtar, Bhim, Arjun, Nakul and Sahdev) during their exile, worshiped Lord Shiv in this temple. This is a cave temple situated in the midst of the rocks on the seashore. Once pilgrims enter the cave, the first glimpse is of Lord Ganesh, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi, then the 5 Shivlings are visible in different sizes in the middle of the sea water, this is a very significant feature of the temple. Above the rock, the Seshnaag was carved to watch over the Shivlings. These lings are generally submerged in the sea during high tides and only during the low tides, there is chance for visibility. This temple is also known as seashore temple by the locals.

Gangeshwar temple is 5000 years old, though no archaeological work has been carried out on the site to confirm this date. The establishment of temple and installation of five Shivlings on the rocky surface of the sea shore was done by the five Pandav brothers (Yudhishter, Bhim, Arjun, Nakul and Sahdev). It is believed that these five Shivlings installed depended on the size of each Pandav brothers. One Shivling is huge in size which signifies Bhim as he had huge physique. The reason why this Shiv temple is so eminent in Hindu religion is that it has its origin from the era of Ramayan.

The temple is believed to be crowded during Mahashivratri. On this day, special pujas and ceremonies are held. Devotees visit the temple to perform Rudra Abhishek or recite mantrs and shloks. Shiv puja is usually done once in every three hours. The night is divided in four parts and during each section, ritual bath and worship is offered to Shivlings. The colour normally people wear on Shivratri is green, white, yellow, red and purple. These colours are believed to be auspicious and pleases Lord Shiv. Green colour represents renewal, growth and harmony with nature. It associates Lord Shiv’s connection to the natural world. White colour symbolizes purity and peace, reflecting Lord Shiv’s serene nature. Yellow signifies wisdom and divine blessings. Red colour embodies passion and is linked to Goddess Parvati. Purple colour indicates spirituality and reflects divinity and enlightened Lord Shiv. On Maha Shivratri, it is advised to avoid wearing black and blue colour.

Fatehpur Sikri and its Splemdid Monuments

A city predominantly built in red sand-stone called Fatehpur Sikri, is located 37 kms from Agra District of Uttar Pradesh, and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city was founded by the 16^th century Mughal emperor Akbar in 1569. Fatehpur Sikri meaning the city of victory, was the capital of the Mughal empire. It was the first planned city of the Mughals to be marked by magnificent administrative, residential and religious buildings comprising of palaces, public buildings, mosques and residing areas for the court, the army, the servants of the king and an entire city. After moving the capital to Lahore, Fatehpur Sikri remained as an area for temporary visits.

Amongst the magnificent monuments at Fatehpur Sikri, the four prominent ones are Jama Masjid, Buland Darwaza, Tomb of Hazrat Salim Chisti and Panch Mahal.

Jama Masjid: This is a grand mosque that reflects the architectural prowess of Mughals. The mosque contains the tomb of Hazrat Salim Chisti, an extraordinary masterpiece of sculpted decoration completed between (1580-81) and further embellished under the reign of Jahangir in 1606. This monument is 540 feet tall.

Buland Darwaza: Located at the south end of the court, this is an absolute imposing structure. The construction of this monument started in 1573 by Emperor Akbar to commemorate his victory over Gujarat. Buland Darwaza is the main entrance to the Jama Masjid. Without any doubt, it was the greatest monumental structure during emperor Akbar’s entire reign and also one of the most perfect architectural achievements in India.

Tomb of Hazrat Salim Chisti: Emperor Akbar build the tomb of Salim Chisti to honour the Sufi saint and to show his respect. Legends has it that the saint predicted the birth of Akbar’s son Salim who was named Salim after the saint, and later was known as Jahangir. The burial place of the Sufi Saint Salim Chisti is located within the quadrangle of Jama Masjid. Its a white marble mausoleum known for its delicate latticework.

Panch Mahal: This monument is considered the most important buildings in Fatehpur Sikri. It’s a five level palace with 176 intricately carved columns commissioned by Emperor Akbar which was used for entertainment and relaxation. The entire building is made of red sandstone called sikri sandstone.

Fatehpur Sikri is located on the banks of the sacred rivers Ganga and Yamuna. The city as a whole, is a unique example of Persian-Indo-Islamic style architectural ensembles of extremely high quality. Fatehpur Sikri remained the capital for Mughal Empire until Akbar moved his capital to Delhi in 1586, due to inadequate water supply in Fatehpur Sikri. The population here is believed to be only 30,000 and therefore, the city has been addressed as “Ghost Town”.

It’s believed that there was a secret tunnel connecting Fatehpur Sikri to Delhi. This tunnel was used to transport artilleries and other important stuff belonging to Mughal emperor and his empire.

As per research carried out by the University of California, Berkeley, it is believed that contrary to the belief that human beings were considered to be selfish in the past, have now gathered evidence to show that we are evolving to become more compassionate and collaborative in our quest to survive and thrive.

In a recent case, a 22-year-old Sikh gentleman from Auckland, exhibited the true essence of compassion and altruism when he saved a five-year-old boy who was bleeding after an accident. Without thinking, the gentleman took out his turban and used it to stop the child’s bleeding knowing very well that as per the Sikh tradition, he was not supposed to bare his head and take the turban off. He chose to help the boy over his tradition. His quick thinking saved the boy’s life.

Another current instance doing the rounds of social media, is of a girl in India who loves to wear her hair short, but in order to donate hair to children suffering with cancer, she grows her hair. She was only nine years when she first donated her hair. The second time she donated her hair at age twelve. This is a genuine act of kindness. The girl’s mother denies she has anything to do in her daughter’s decision of donating hair, but believes she was inspired by a series “Alexa and Katie” wherein Alexa is fighting cancer and Katie stands by her.

Here is one more case of a school girl from US who has been collection ketchup sachets for two years and storing them partly in her school bag and partly in her school locker. On being questioned as to why she was doing this? She replied that if there is a shootout in the school, she will use the ketchup and smear them on herself and whoever is around so the shooter will think we are dead. This little girl is definitely full of empathy, she is not only thinking about saving her life, but also those around her.

Some scientists are looking into how the human capacity to care and cooperate, is wired into particular regions of the brain and nervous system. One recent study found compelling evidence that many of us are genetically inclined to be empathetic. The study, led by UC Berkeley graduate student Laura Saslow, and Sarina Rodrigues of Oregon State University, found that people with a particular variation of the oxytocin gene receptor are more adept at reading the emotional state of others, and get less stressed out under tense circumstances. Informally known as the "cuddle hormone", oxytocin is secreted into the bloodstream and the brain, where it promotes social interaction, among other functions.

Cabo de Rama

A village in the Southern part of Goa called Cabo de Rama is known for its natural beauty, serene surroundings and relatively uncrowded atmosphere compared to other destinations in Goa. Two important things that attract tourists to this hidden gem is the fort Cabo de Rama and Cabo de Rama beach.

The Fort Cabo de Rama

Also known as Kalhad fort was built by Shivaji Maharaj, a Maratha King in 1679 and was named after Lord Rama, hero of the epic Ramayana. It is believed that Lord Rama and his wife Sita took refuge here when they were sent in exile from Ayodhya. Over the centuries, the Fort has witnessed transformations under various rulers from the Bahmani sultanate to the Portuguese colonialist.

The Soonda rulers ruled Cabo de Rama until the Portuguese gained control in 1763. The Soonda King surrendered the territory to Portuguese, in return for protection from Hyder Ali of Mysore. The Portuguese rebuilt Cabo de Rama Fort in 1763 but the Fort’s origin dates back to pre-colonial times. The fort was originally known as Rama kila. After the Portuguese captured the fort from the king of Soonda in 1763, the fort was renamed as Cabo de Rama and they added a chapel dedicated to St. Anthony.

The British took over the possession from the Portuguese in 1792 and abandoned it in 1813. Thereafter, for a brief period from 1935 to 1955 the British used it as a prison. At present, the church is in regular use and consequently is the best maintained part of the fort. The area which was used as prison, is in a liveable state and is being used by government officials mostly scientists and researcher personnel from the national institute of oceanography.

Cabo de Rama Beach

Cabo de Rama beach is just about 2 kms overlooking the Cabo de Rama fort. It’s a serene and picturesque beach and ideal for those looking for peace and solitude. It’s important to know that the beach allows visitors from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm only. The beach is surrounded by tall coconut trees and can turn out to be a perfect picnic spot. There are small shacks and huts where snacks and water is being sold. The beach is actually not very long as it extends between the ruins of the fort and the rock formations. Unlike most other beaches which has only sand, this beach is covered with pebbles and has a crystal clear water. Facilities at the beach are basic due to its remote nature. Except for Lifeguards, visitors should not expect any other amenities like showers, chairs and rentals, found at other commercial beaches. However, there is Kayaking in the backwaters, which means it’s not so dull. The price of kayaking starts at Rs.400/500 for a boat but otherwise it could cost Rs.200 per person.

Navigating Anger

An emotion, most of us deal on everyday basis, is Anger. It is generally quoted as an outcome of stress due to various reasons, but as per studies conducted by research groups, anger is said to be something we opt for. Anger is our reaction to other people’s behavior that does not coincide with our thoughts.

As anger works negatively on people, there has got to be a solution to overcome this factor. What makes us angry is our own response to certain situation which establishes the emotion. One reacts to the same situation either in an angry manner or composed way. One theory believes that anger is based on our thinking and so to change the reaction, we have to modify our thoughts. It is very important to acquire a state of tranquility to deal with this situation. Another theory says that anger definitely is an outcome of fear. We get angry with the fear that something might go wrong. Fear causing anger is classified mainly into two sections – one is termed as reality and the other is called imagination. The effect of reality is to a great extent, short-lived and disappears within no time, whereas imaginary fear continues for a longer period because it never materializes. This prolonged imaginary fear turns into anger and if this is stretched for too long, can eventually lead to severe depression.

The best means to deal with this situation is to tackle the fear factor. Mostly anger is dealt by striking out or by stifling. Managing anger means controlling emotions through thought processing or changing the thoughts to a certain situation. An effective way to handle anger is to ensure that our thinking is reasonable. For some, anger is like a defense mechanism. It is put into practice when they are concerned about something. It is also believed that many a times this tool is used to camouflage one’s own mistakes and sometimes to dominate others. Research groups affirm that anger can be retaliation towards injustice. When you are frustrated and cannot do anything to get justice, the feeling of anger surfaces. In an angry state it is apparent that the thought process is ambiguous.

A Traditional Condiment-chhapra Chutney

However, there is one condiment - Red-ant chutney made from red weaver ants and their eggs. It’s a traditional food in the tribal communities of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and west Bengal, it is also known as Kai chutney, Hao Rit, Chapura, Chapda chutney or Chhapra chutney.

This chutney is semi solid and has a pungent and sour taste. It is a good source of protein, calcium, zinc, vitamin B-12, iron, magnesium and potassium. It is believed to have medicinal and nutritional properties. The chutney is believed to help develop a healthy brain and nervous system. It is said to help manage conditions like depression, fatigue and memory loss. Helps with bone and eye health.

Madia tribe people are believed to have this chutney as it has a wonderful tangy flavour. This chutney can be added to a range of dishes including fish, vegetable curry, ambadi (a green leafy vegetable) and many more. It has a high folic acid content and therefore it tastes very hot

A City Never Deserted by Divine Entities

According to the Sanatan Scriptures, Varanasi is placed on the

Trident of Shiva and not on Earth and will remain untouched even

when the universe is destroyed, hence the word Avimukt is used for

Varanasi. The normal laws of Hinduism do not apply in the region of

Kashi. Upon death in Varanasi one does not take birth again, and is

liberated from the cycle of births and deaths by achieving Moksha.

Thus the word, Avimukt is associated with Varanasi. In the

Vishwanath Temple complex, there is a small temple dedicated to

Shiva, named Avimukteshwara, meaning the lord of the Avimukt

region. One is supposed to pay obeisance to Avimukteshwara before

paying obeisance to Kashi Vishwanath himself.

Avimukta Kshetra, often referred to as Avimukteshwar Kshetra, is a

significant term in Hinduism, primarily associated with the holy city

of Kashi (Varanasi). It translates to "never forsaken" and signifies that

the city is never deserted by divine entities, particularly Lord

Shiva. The term "Avimukta" emphasizes the city's status as a divine

refuge, where Lord Shiva is eternally present and never abandons

the area. The city's name is also connected to the Avimukteshwar

Ling said to have existed since the Satya Yuga, a revered Shivaling

said to grant liberation and remove the sins of several generations.

Some texts mention that Kashi, or Avimukta Kshetra, is a spiritual

centre of immense significance, even during times of universal

destruction (Maha Pralaya), where Lord Shiva is said to be present.

There has been a lot of discussions and doubts raised in various

places whether Avimukteshwar temple is the main temple or the

Vishwanath Temple. In ancient texts and granths, Avimukteshwar

temple has been given importance.

It is stated in ancient texts that a person having the darshan of

Avimuktheshwar Ling is relieved of all his Paap Karmas of several

generations and has no rebirth. It is also believed that Bhagvan

Vishwanath performs pooja of Avimukteshwar every day.

Avimuktheshwar ling finds mention in Ling Puran, Kashi Khand, and

also in Brahma Vaivart Puran.

अविमुक्ते महाक्षेत्रे अविमुक्त मवलोक्य च

त्रिजन्मजनितं पापं हित्वा पुण्यमयो भवेत्

The person who worships Avimukteshwar Ling in Avimukta

Mahakshetra, he renounces the sins of three births and becomes

virtuous.

According to historical evidences, there was a magnificent temple of

Avimukteshwar Ling and in this premises Vishweshwar Ling was also

present. Devotees had darshan of both lings in the same premises.

But there was a bout of destructions during Mughal period and the

Avimukthshwar Ling may not be in the same place as envisaged in

premises of Vishwanath Temple.

The temple is open for worship practically throughout the day and

aarties (deep aradhana) are performed at various times. Since 1983,

the management of the temple has been taken over by District

Administration. The temple was in a congested premises and

recently, a compound wall has been demolished to give more leg

space and elbow room to the devotees.

Epiphany

A realisation that allows a problem to be understood in a different way is epiphany, just like Archimedes’ discovery to calculate the volume of an irregular object is considered epiphany. This also is a common term found in the present-day novels. Authors like Katherine Mansfield, Marcel Proust and Ezra Pound use epiphany in their work. However, Epiphany is also a Christian holiday celebrated 12 days after Christmas.

Epiphany, also called Feast of the Epiphany, Theophany, or Three Kings’ Day, is derived from the Greek word epiphaneia which means “to reveal”. This feast is celebrated on the 6^th of January, 12 days after Christmas. It commemorates how a star led the Magi or the three kings or wise men, to baby Jesus. Countries celebrate on the evening before, and on the actual day solemnise with parades of decorative floats. People turn out in costumes as kings bearing gifts. This was the day when baby Jesus was ‘revealed’ to the world.

In Spain, children traditionally do not receive their presents on Christmas Day, instead they are given presents on 6 January. Christians believe that it took 12 days after the birth of Jesus for the wise men, to travel to Bethlehem for the Epiphany when they recognized him as the son of God. Epiphany is primarily observed by Orthodox, Catholic, and Anglican Christians. However, many Protestant believers don’t understand the spiritual significance behind this holiday, which is one of the earliest feasts of the Christian church. Epiphany is known as the holiday of light and finds representation with a dish of oranges, blood oranges, clementines or tangerines on the dinner table. Dried figs nestle among the dessert treats, which include spicy-exotic cakes. Because the Magi hailed from the Orient, spicy cake is a traditional Epiphany staple.

There is an old legend of a 4th Wiseman named Artaban. Like the other 3 wise men, he sees signs in the heaven proclaiming that a King had been born among the Jews. And so, he sets out to see the newborn ruler, carrying treasures to give as gifts to the child – a sapphire, a ruby, and a pearl of great price. The names of the 3 wise men were Gaspar (or Caspar), Melchior, and Balthasar. They brought along with them three symbolic gifts to give to Jesus. They were Gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Since then, this event included in the Gospel of Matthew, is celebrated in all Spanish speaking countries around the world.

Double Delight

My social calendar just got a sparkly, double whammy makeover this month. I found myself hip-deep in not one, but two utterly fabulous and fantastically elaborate shindigs, courtesy of the same family and all within a dizzying 10-day sprint, kicking off with my friend's son getting engaged! The event took place at the Swagat Grand in A.S. Rao Nagar. I had pictured a quick ring exchange, a blessing from the elders, a bite to eat, and then boom, done. Oh, how wrong I was!

Before we even got to the bling, there was a puja that stretched on for over two hours. The boy and girl to be engaged, were right there in the thick of it – apparently, it's a Tamilian tradition for the couple who are getting engaged, to do this together before tying the knot. Mind blown! After that, they did a quick costume change, looking sharp as ever, and mingled with all the guests, soaking up the congratulations. Then, a giant cake appeared for a cutting ceremony! It just kept getting more and more elaborate. They even exchanged garlands before finally, finally, getting to the ring exchange.

What really got me was how the couple, in what was an arranged marriage, looked like they'd been together forever. Seriously, the joy radiating from the bride's parents was practically overflowing. And then, there was her paternal uncle, who was so beside himself with happiness that he grabbed the mic and serenaded everyone! He belted out "Aisa Mauka Fir Kahan Milega" a Hindi song with such perfect pitch and gusto that the crowd went wild. He was completely jazzed and kept churning out songs, one after another!

Everyone was loving the impromptu concert, but my stomach had other plans. It was rumbling like a grumpy bear, so I stealthily slipped away to raid the buffet. I piled my plate high, had desserts galore, and sealed the deal with a paan. Feeling utterly stuffed and in a happy food coma, I figured it was my cue to exit. But not before the groom's parents handed out goodie bags – a little treasure trove of savouries, sweets, fruit, and even haldi kumkum. What a day!!!

Ten days later, on the 23rd it was a Sashtipurthi Soiree, a Tale of Sarees, Dhoti, and Missing Melodies! The boy’s parents were probably still recovering from all the excitement of their son’s engagement and it was time for their Sashtipurthi bash! Now, for those not in the know, this isn't just any birthday party. It's like a full-blown wedding redo for the parents, Tamilian style! So, instead of cake and candles, there were pujas, marriage vows, and even garland-swapping!

The wife's parents blessed their daughter with a nine-yard saree. Meanwhile, the husband's side kept it chill with a Mundu (dhoti) and shirt. Realistic! No-nonsense, unlike some of us who practically need a crane to get dressed. The spiritual marathon kicked off at a breezy 5:30 AM and finally wrapped up around 11:00 AM. After that, it was outfit change time! The wife, according to the stars and planets, slipped into a blue normal saree with a silver border. And get this, her name and hubby's were embroidered on the pallu! She looked-completely a different person after shedding that nine-yard saree. The husband, bless his consistent soul, changed his shirt and mundu, but, he still looked, exactly the same.Then came the gift avalanche. Friends and relatives, armed with packages, absolutely buried the couple in presents which filled a couple of humongous bags. It looked like they wouldn't need to buy clothes for the next five years!

Now, for a minor tragedy: no singing! The designated crooner, who also happened to be the couple's would-be daughter-in-law's uncle, was a no-show. I was personally waiting for a rousing rendition of "Tum Jio Hazaro Saal." Seriously, everyone missed him.

We had potatoes and mirchi bhajias as starters to kick off the culinary festivities!

Lunch was a pure Brahmin-style spread, though honestly, I couldn't tell the difference myself. What I could tell you is that it was garlic and onion-free. The buffet was a carb-lover's dream: puri, potato bhaji, plain daal, sambar, one mixed veg, pulihara, plain rice, papad, three different types of pickle, plain yogurt, and raita. For dessert, there was Kala jamun and strawberry ice cream. And, mind you, they didn't forget the paan.

Though I'm usually not a siesta kind of person but after all that food, I was seriously dreaming of my couch. Maybe it was the sheer volume of deliciousness, but a change of scene-was definitely calling my name. The return gift ritual was performed, and I finally made it home, secretly hoping for more such ceremonies but not this month. Who needs a vacation when you have engagement and Sashtipurthi ceremonies on this scale!!

A Memorable Birthday Party

Recently, my appreciation for birthday parties has grown significantly. I have come to notice that each party I attend, captivates me in one way or another. Recently, I was invited by my friend Jumee for her Mom's birthday wherein, I experienced a celebration that truly left me speechless. The decoration, the guests' attire, the fun games played at the party and the delicious array of food were absolutely breathtaking.

The true essence of the evening was captured in the joy on birthday girl's face as she celebrated her special day surrounded by loved ones. A special shout out to Jumee for her outstanding dedication. She put in countless hours decorating her home. The sense of community was also palpable, with each guest contributing to the celebration. One of the guests Namrata organised and facilitated fun games that kept everyone entertained. Adding to the festivity, she also sang a heartfelt songs dedicated to Jelly- the birthday girl. Someone wrote a poem as well, and recited it after the Cake cutting ceremony. The Cake was undoubtedly yummy!!!

The decorations were thoughtfully arranged, it was all in gold and the curtains were yellow, creating a warm and inviting environment. Jumee had requested the guests to wear any shade of yellow color, so except for 3 guests, everyone turned up in yellow attire. Jumee and her Mom ( Jelly) were also wearing yellow color dresses. As the guests were leaving, they were given a yellow color rose flower made of satin material with a chocolate (snicker) as return gift. This brought back memories of childhood days when we used to look forward to the return gifts, be it a pencil or a chocolate.

The array of snacks prepared by Jumee was a hit, featuring lip smacking pasta, vegetable cutlets, beetroot ladoo, potato chips and sandwiches, ensuring the guests had enough to eat. There was apple juice and green tea also served. The birthday party was a perfect blend of love, laughter, and surprises. Thanks to the collective efforts of everyone involved. It was a beautiful way to honor Jelly and create lasting memories together. The party turned out to be a delightful and memorable occasion.

I hope to frequent many more similar celebrations and moments of joy in the future!

Another architectural Wonder

There are umpteen number of architectural marvels in the form of palaces, forts, cathedrals and temples in Telangana and the number seems to be going up. A recent addition to the list is an enormous Temple of Lord Venkateswara built on Manepally Hills in Bhuvanagiri, Telangana. The temple is known as

Swarnagiri Sree Venkateswara Swamy Devasthanam. It is also called Yadadri Tirumala Devasthanam (YTD). The Temple is built on a 22-acre land which is owned by Manepally family who are prominent businessmen in Manepally. Swarnagiri Temple is considered one of the largest Balaji Temples in South India. The construction of this temple began in 2018 and the main temple was completed this year. However, more work is in progress around the temple. The temple was consecrated on the 7^th of March 2024 by Chinna Jeeyar Swami- a spiritual leader from Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh.

Although there are 108 steps to reach the temple, it is believed that the steps are designed in such a manner that people of all ages can climb easily. This is probably only for those who have made a vow. Nevertheless, there is another option wherein the vehicles can drive right on top in order to skip the 108 steps, drop the passengers and go down to park.

The architecture of Swarnagiri Temple resembles Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati. It is a blend of architectural styles of Pallava, Vijayanagar, Chola and Chalukya Dynasties. The temple features four Rajagopuram (towers), 40 feet monolith statue of Lord Hanumana installed in a 120 feet high Mandapam. The Statue of Lord Venkateshwara is 12 feet high and is believed to be the largest in Telangana. There is a bronze bell weighing about one and half tons making it the second largest in India. The most significant sight is the Jala Narayana Swami Sannidhi (Lord Venkateswara sleeping in the water- filled sanctum).

The chief sculptor of the Swarnagiri Temple is DNV Prasad Sthapathi. He appointed skilled artisans from different states to craft the temple.

Redefining Aging

In recent years, the stereotypes surrounding aging, particularly for women, have undergone a significant transformation. Not too long ago, reaching the age of 50 often meant a shift into a more reserved lifestyle—one characterized by a decline in socializing, dressing up, and engaging with friends. However, I firmly believe that today, being in your 80s feels like the new 40s, and my recent experience has reaffirmed this perspective.

On the 16th of this month, I attended a gathering that exemplified this exciting shift. The event brought together nearly 35 vibrant women, all in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond. Each of these remarkable ladies belonged to different groups, the host is part of. This spirited host Sudha Gorthy in her 80s is a testament to active aging. This vivacious and elegant lady is associated with five different groups: Vatayan writers' group, a book club, a music ensemble, an exercise group, and a kitty group. Just imagine the energy and enthusiasm she exudes, despite being in her 80s!

As I arrived at the venue, I noticed that several tables were set up, each with four chairs. However, as guests mingled, they began pulling chairs together to form larger semi-circles, fostering a sense of community and connection. The host, alongside her gracious daughter, moved from table to table, engaging with every guest and ensuring that everyone felt valued and included.

After all the guests were settled, the host announced that her music group would perform a song. They beautifully rendered “Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna” which translates to “Never Say Goodbye” in English. Their harmonious voice filled the room, and the heartfelt performance set a tone of joy and togetherness.

Following the song, the atmosphere buzzed with friendly chatter. The lively discussions were momentarily hushed when a member of the kitty group Shenaz stood up to honour the host. She praised her grace, elegance, and charm, indicating how these qualities have remained consistent over the years. In celebration of her spirit, they raised a toast and presented her with a cake adorned with the message “with love from the kitty group.” As the host, Sudha Gorthy cut the cake everyone sang “For she is a jolly good fellow, she is a jolly good fellow, which nobody can deny” This gesture symbolized the warmth and affection the group felt for their dynamic member.

As soon as the host cut the cake, conversations resumed with renewed energy. Some women were catching up on lost time, while others, meeting for the first time, eagerly sharing stories and news. The joyful atmosphere was palpable, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and genuine connections.

Just as the chatter reached a delightful crescendo, there was another announcement! This time, from the host that lunch was ready. She invited everyone to help themselves from the impressive buffet laid out, featuring an array of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The meal was capped off with the cake and additional sweet treats, creating a perfect culinary experience.

After lunch, the energy naturally mellowed, and one by one, guests began to take their leave. It was a fun-filled afternoon, rich with laughter, shared stories, and a sense of belonging. As I reflected on the gathering, I couldn’t help but admire the resilience and zest for life that each woman displayed.

Kudos to our host! Organizing a lunch party for 35 ladies, from five different groups is no small feat, and she managed to do so with such grace and warmth. This gathering was not merely a celebration of food and music; it was a testament to the fact that life continues to blossom at any age, bursting with energy, connection, and joy. Today’s older women are redefining aging, proving that life can be as vibrant as you make it, no matter the age on your birthday cake!!!!!

Lost a dear friend recently!! I have penned down few words in her honour.

In Loving Memory of a Dear Friend and a Vatayan Member

The passing of Radhika Chandika, a cherished member of the Vatayan family is deeply mourned. She was not only a loving and caring individual but also someone who was always ready to offer her help and support to others. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.
I fondly remember a phone call I received from her, urging me to contribute to Eve’s Weekly. It was her encouragement that inspired me to share my stories more widely. Another poignant memory that stands out is when, after reading a story I submitted for a children's magazine, she provided me with thoughtful and constructive feedback. Her note read:
“Hi Mira,
You started with Susan and her daughter, but afterwards, there is no role of the daughter. If you want to send it to children’s magazines, the story should be centered around the child rather than the mother. So, switch the roles.”
Her insight was invaluable, and I found her ability to convey complex ideas with such simplicity, remarkable. The narratives she crafted felt real and resonated deeply with readers.
At Vatayan, we will profoundly miss her presence. Although she was unable to attend our meetings regularly in recent times, there was always hope that she would recover and return to us. Now, we are left with the painful reality that she will never join us again.
As we mourn her passing, let us remember her as a shining star—one that has ascended to heaven, and will continue to light the lives of those she left behind. Her spirit and contributions will forever remain in our hearts.

April a Month of Profound Significance for me

April holds a profound significance in my life, rooted in an experience that began in November 1973 and culminated in a momentous event in April 1974. The story traces back to the birth of my first son, who arrived prematurely on February 11, 1972. This unexpected early arrival forced me to leave my job at Avery India Ltd. in Pune, and dedicate my time completely to my child's care. By the time my son was a year and eight months old, I felt the need to reintegrate myself into the workforce.
It was during this period that a friend encouraged me to apply for a position at Ceat Tyres of India Ltd. in November 1973. I was eager for a new challenge, but applying for a job again after a hiatus was daunting. To my surprise, I found myself navigating a rigorous interview process that involved four rounds, each more intense than the previous one. The first interview was with Mr. Pradeep Mukherjee, the branch manager at the Pune office. The subsequent interviews followed suit, with the District Manager Mr. Mulay, the Divisional Manager Mr. Ghose, and the personnel manager from the Bombay office each having their say.

By the end of this, I was mentally drained. The constant scrutiny and assessment left me questioning whether I should continue this pursuit. If it weren't for the esteemed reputation of Ceat Tyres, I might have walked away. However, I resolved to stay the course, hoping for a glimmer of positivity amidst the exhaustion. I patiently waited for news through the first half of March, but as the weeks slipped by without any communication, doubt began to creep in. On March 25, 1974, the postman delivered an envelope that was to change my life. The return address read Ceat Tyres of India Ltd., Bombay. As I held the envelope, a mix of anxiety and anticipation consumed me. With a deep breath, I tore it open and discovered that I had been selected for the position of a steno-typist at the Pune office, starting from April 1, 1974. At that moment, my mind raced with disbelief; I instinctively thought of the date itself, wondering if this announcement was merely an April Fool’s prank. When I shared this news with my family, they too voiced similar concerns, fuelling my apprehension.

Over the next six days, I struggled with self-doubt and uncertainty about my new position. Nevertheless, on April 1st, I said a prayer and mustered the courage to step out of my home. Arriving at the Ceat Tyres Office, I was greeted by a peon in a white uniform who guided me to the waiting room. Heart pounding, I sat there, reflecting on the journey that had brought me to this point. Moments later, I was summoned to the branch manager's office, where I was met with a warm handshake and the words, “Congratulations and welcome to Ceat Tyres.”
That day marked the start of my professional career at Ceat Tyres, an eight year journey that began on what I had initially thought was an ominous date- April Fool’s Day. Little did I know that this April Fool’s Day would turn out to be one of the most significant turning points in my life, opening doors to new opportunities and experiences I had longed for. The home I dwell in today is bought by my end-benefits from Ceat Tyres which I received from them when I decided to move to the Gulf. I am eternally grateful to Ceat Tyres for this.
