Price As a Consideration
Everybody wants to get required work done at the lowest possible price. But there's a price range where you need to ask how the contractor is able to deliver such a low price when all of the other bidders have quoted a significantly higher price. The old saying "You get what you pay for" may have some bearing in this instance and you should query the contractor how they are able to quote such a low price. Yes, you want the best price, but no, you don't want too many corners cut to get that price.
Length of Contract
Ideally, whether you're having a brand new building made or having an existing building remodeled or refurbished, you want everyone doing work to finish on time and around the same time. It's counterproductive to accept a low bid from a contractor that's going to make you wait beyond your specified construction schedule. Before awarding any contracts, you need to ask the contractors you're more seriously considering for references and check those references. Make sure these previous customers have no complaints about quality of work, adherence to schedules, or performing the work requested, as requested and within budgetary constraints.
Make Sure You Get a Warranty
Before choosing any contractor, make sure you check out the type of warranty you get from them. This means not only the cable plant, but racks, switches, patch panels, and any other equipment provided by them. Having the work guaranteed but not the material used can be an expensive proposition if substandard installation practices cause equipment failure or damage installed cabling.

Maintaining 100% Uptime
Uninterruptible power supplies are great for those occasions when the power grid is out for a limited amount of time, such as a few hours. However, for times when the power is out for longer than what the UPS was designed to handle, you will need another option, especially if your data centre is mission critical. This means you will need a secondary source of power generation. This usually takes the form of a diesel-powered generator. Just like the UPS, these generators come in varying sizes, from rather small to extremely large. However, with the emphasis on green technologies, solar power is a viable alternative for use during the day in order to cut down on emissions. Additionally, the power generated by the solar cells can be used to cut down on the cost of power consumed by the building in which your equipment room is located. This also makes the use of solar power more cost-effective than power generation using fossil fuels.

What Documentation to Expect From Your Cabling Installation Contractor

There are certain sets of documents that you should require from any contractor that you have doing work for you in your building. Some of these documents can be expected of any contractor, whether they're installing electrical power and lighting, plumbing, HVAC, or a cabling system. However, a cabling contractor should be able to supply you with some extra documentation that other contractors won't need to give you.

Blueprints
Every job should have a set of prints. These are the guidelines that the contractor should use during the installation process. They should show where you want everything to be installed and should also include a section with special instructions, if applicable. When an installation crew is good, they will actually "red-line" the prints they're using to give better detail than the original prints. These red-lined prints should be sent back to the shop and turned into what are known as "As Builts." A set of as built prints shows where the crew ran the cabling, to scale. It will also show any corrections to the original print caused by conflicts with other systems being installed, such as plumbing and HVAC. The as built should also include cable labeling information. This means that the label that was placed on the cable will be listed on the print showing where it goes; what office or piece of equipment it serves.
Closet Layouts
In small installations, this isn't as imperative as it is in larger installations with dozens of fully populated racks in multiple telecommunications closets. Not having a closet layout, for every closet, can mean that the person sent to figure out why the second floor HP Laserjet printer isn't communicating with the network can spend a few hours just figuring out what panel and port is it connected to and in which rack that patch panel is installed in. Additionally, not only should a master list be supplied, showing the layout of every closet involved in the build, but each closet should have a layout conspicuously posted in it. The better contractors are actually going to supply a variety of layouts when they finish their job. These will include a large layout of the whole room, one for each individual rack, and when multiple rows of racks are used, a layout posted at the beginning of each row.
Testing and Certification Results
For mission critical systems, or longer cable runs, this may be the most important piece of documentation you should get from your contractor. Testing and certification results prove to you that the cable plant was properly installed and meets or exceeds the specifications you set for it. You should review these results very carefully, in conjunction with the prints. The prints can sometimes explain certain readings, like when some of the readings are borderline, which is easier to overlook when the cable run approaches the maximum length allowed under the specified standard. However, borderline results from shorter cable runs means less than optimal installation practices which could lead to data transmission issues and these should be rectified prior to job acceptance.

ISO/IEC 20000-1 (Part 1) is the international standard for IT Service Management used to demonstrate the service management capability of a service provider. Since the first edition was published in 2005, many organizations around the world are now certified.

One of the significant changes relate to the scope of the service management system. This can be complex and Part 1 now includes specific requirements for scope definition.
Another important change is the applicability of the standard. The new edition of Part 1 recognises that many services are composed of service components from many parties and suppliers. The new clause on governance of processes operated by other parties means that a service provider has to demonstrate that they control their suppliers effectively. If a service provider relies on other parties for the majority of the service management processes it may be difficult to demonstrate adequate control to achieve certification.
Many service management process requirements have been extended. The clause on the design and transition of new or changed services has more requirements. This will provide better support for organizations that have adopted the ITIL service lifecycle.
Transition to the new edition
Each ISO/IEC 20000 certification scheme owner defines their own plans for transition. The changeover may differ between the certification schemes and it is important to seek advice from the certification scheme owners. The International Accreditation Forum certification schemes will have a common transition approach. Typical changeovers like this take 2 years.
A certified service provider should check with their auditor to find out what arrangements there will be for transferring the certificate to the second edition of Part 1. Since Epsilon's databases don't store large quantities of consumer credit card information, no real data was stolen except for consumer names and email addresses and the retail stores that those consumers frequented.
Though the Epsilon security breach didn't allow credit card or other sensitive information to be stolen, this data breach did set up consumers to become the victim of phishing scams. The problem is, that after receiving promotional emails from trusted companies like Sears over many months, loyal customers can be presented with fake emails from places far away (Yugoslavia perhaps) that send them to equally fake websites-without ever noticing they've been tricked.
These websites, set up to look just like the real company websites, are designed to con consumers into entering private information -- credit card information, for instance. When faced with such deceptive websites, studies show that 1 in 7 consumers fall for a phishing attack.
A tip that every consumer should know: never let yourself be led to a website from a link within an email. If you didn't enter the site address yourself or pick it from your favorite list, just don't go there. It could be part of a sophisticated scam.
The Sony Data Breach
The second instructive and most visible breach surrounds Sony and the various times this corporation has been hacked over the past few months. Hackers breached Sony's data center in late April 2011 and extracted millions of user accounts that contained personal information-including credit card numbers. In the days following the attack, there was a reported auction of 100,000 credit cards, each of which would be used for fraud.
There are two lessons about how not to become a victim that consumers can learn from this breach.
1.If you have a credit card in a network that has been breached, cancel it immediately. Canceling a card takes minutes, recovering from credit card fraud or identity theft might take weeks. The potential damage done could affect your credit score for years.
2.Another way to protect yourself is to sign-up for a low limit credit card to use when making purchases on the Internet. In this case, if a breach did occur, at worst you'd be out a few hundred dollars but your primary financial world would be intact.
Protecting Your Data
Overall, it is important to think about the information you put in the hands of companies. Only a fraction of the breaches that take place actually get reported. To make matters worse, many companies don't recognize when they have been breached. Epsilon, for instance, discovered their breach by accident several weeks after the event. The more places you trust your data, the higher the odds you'll be one of the millions of consumers who become a victim of cyber crime.

This allows that equipment to run much cooler and more efficiently.

This doesn't mean you have to be like Cerberus guarding the gates of Hades. It means that in order to most optimally manage data centre heat, the door should be kept closed as much as possible. This means that unless someone is actually going through the door, that door should be closed. Doors should NEVER ( repeat: NEVER) propped open, unless the data centre is not in operation or the air conditioning is offline and it is cooler outside than it is inside. In this case fans should be used to pull cooler air into the server room.

Kodak ZX3 Review From The Real User

I am waiting just for this to often be released for several months, and ended up being surprised after i got the actual notice that the ship night out was moved up by a month fot this Kodak ZX3. I've had this camera only for around 12 hours but have spent a few hours with it so far, and it was definitely worth waiting for. I thought to be the Flip Mino but thought we would wait for this to come out because of the ability to use SD cards and also to get rid of and change the battery somewhat cheaply .

I'm really glad I waited, and here's why.
* Picture quality is fantastic. I've uploaded some things to Youtube, and the picture was crystal clear.
* Sound - The mic picked up a nice variety of sounds from office sounds (people typing,etc) to a loud surprise party with clarity.
* Size - It's really small. It's wide and flat. Fits in my jeans pocket and in my shirt pocket as well.
* Battery - I'm waiting to see how long it lasts, but it charged in around an hour and 45 minutes when plugged in to the wall.
* Software - I'm pretty impressed. It's simple but it does pretty much what I'll need it to do. I spent around 30 minutes messing around with it. The video uploaded quickly.It allowed for basic editing, color correction and enhancement,etc. It allows direct upload to Facebook,Youtube,Twitter,and Vimeo.
* Build Quality - It's sturdy. Possibly not heavy however definitely "solid". I like the rubberized surface, I can imagine it will be easier to hold when it's wet. I'm very excited to be able to film my daughter swimming from inside the [--pool--] !
We own a traditional video camera but it's rarely used because it's big and bulky, the battery life stinks, and making it work with the computer is almost impossible. The Kodak is a natural companion for the diaper bag and I look forward to recording many future memories with it.
Your closest to a negative may just be due to the format itself. I used the Kodak software and burned a standard def dvd from a 1080p source and the video looked awful. Very "blocky". I assumed it would at least be "dvd quality" but it's barely VHS. Of course, I could just be doing something wrong. If I figure it out, I'll revise this review!
Other than that issue, I love this Kodak ZX3! The other camera is going to be sold soon, this is all we need!
