The Google bar, which runs across the top of the browser of nearly all Google services and offers easy access to Google’s products, has recently updated its look for a more consistent, streamlined user experience and increased visibility of the most popular services.Above each of Google’s products, the gray bar has three main regions. On the left, the Google logo contains a drop-down menu with links to Google services that displays when you hover over or click on it. The central area contains a search box for the Google service you are currently using. The right side features a share box and notifications to participate on Google+ from any Google page.Even if you are not signed in to your Google account, you can still navigate to Google’s services through the drop-down menu displayed under Google’s logo.

When visiting the Google homepage, the Google bar’s product menu may be expanded, displaying top Google products. Click the “More” section to reach additional properties.To sign out, switch accounts or manage your account, click your picture on the upper right hand side and select the appropriate action.
The Google bar’s notifications icon displays the number of alerts on your Google+ account, which can show you new people who added you to a circle, activity on your stream, or posts shared directly with you. You can view these notifications by clicking on the number in the red box.You can share to your circles on Google+ from the Google bar, no matter what Google property you are using.

Have a great idea to share? Just write it in the share box, select the circles you’d like to share with, and post. The icons at the bottom of the box can be used to add photos, videos, links, or share your location.

Google Announces new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

After months of anticipation and leaked software screen shots, Google finally unveiled Android 4.0, also known as “Ice Cream Sandwich,” the latest update to the search giant’s Android mobile platform.

The new operating system should eventually merge Android’s tablet OS (version 3.0, aka Honeycomb) with the platform’s smartphone OS (version 2.3, aka Gingerbread). Dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich, the unified OS isn’t an incremental update, but rather a complete OS makeover with changes that range from the elimination of physical navigation buttons to the creation of an entirely new font, “Roboto,” for user interface menus.

Android 4.0 introduces many new capabilities and APIs. Here are some highlights:
Unified UI toolkit: A single set of UI components, styles, and capabilities for phones, tablets, and other devices.

Rich communication and sharing: New social and calendar APIs, Android Beam for NFC-based instant sharing, Wi-Fi Direct support, Bluetooth Health Device Profile support.

Deep interactivity and customization: Improved notifications, lockscreen with camera and music controls, and improved app management in the launcher.

New graphics, camera, and media capabilities: Image and video effects, precise camera metering and face detection, new media codecs and containers.

Interface and input: Hardware-accelerated 2D drawing, new grid-based layout, improved soft keyboard, spell-checker API, stylus input support, and better mouse support.

Improved accessibility: New accessibility APIs and text-to-speech APIs for writing new engines.

Enhancements for enterprise: Keychain and VPN APIs for managing credentials and connections, a new administrator policy for disabling the camera.

WordPress.com Adds WordPress, Twitter And Facebook Comments

Following in the footsteps of commenting systems Echo, Disqus and Intense Debate, WordPress.com has launched Wordpress, Twitter and Facebook authorization and identity systems for its own commenting platform, in that order.

The blog host didn't even have the Wordpress.com option before. Coming before Facebook on this is another albeit small) win for Twitter, who yesterday became the first social platform to be fully integrated into an iOS. Automattic founder Matt Mullenweg tells me that the Twitter and Facebook comments are a lot more 'flexible' than just Twitter and Facebook, and that we also should probably consider them here at TC.

While the new WordPress.com commenting box allows you to post as your WordPress.com account, a guest or as your Twitter and Facebook profile, the platform conveniently allows you to stay logged in to multiple identity

Blogger currently offers five dynamic views for its public blogs. These views are only accessible if allowed for by the blog author.

Flipcard: available at [blogURL]/view/flipcard

These views require modern browsers such as Internet Explorer 8+, Firefox 3.5+, Chrome or Safari. Many elements of these views will not work should you have an older browser.

In all views, search is available in the upper right hand corner. Clicking on the ">" arrow in the very top left of the header bar will slide the header bar across and allow you to choose different views for the current blog as well as type in a new blog URL.

There is also a feedback link for each view.

Google +1 Is Not a Social Network ‎

In order to +1 things, you first need a public Google profile. This helps people see who recommended that tasty recipe or great campsite. When you create a profile, it's visible to anyone and connections with your email address can easily find it.

Your +1’s are stored in a new tab on your Google profile. You can show your +1’s tab to the world, or keep it private and just use it to personally manage the ever-expanding record of things you love around the web.

When it comes to videos, people want to spend less time searching and more time watching. That’s why we added an enhancement to Instant Previews—the ability to preview videos. Click once on the magnifying glass next to the title of any video search result in universal or video mode. For some videos, you'll now be able to play through a set of four short segments from the video to see if it’s what you’re looking for (video providers have to opt to make the previews available, so you won't find it for every video yet).

Google Chrome 10 comes with a full range of competitive features, and is among the most standards-compliant and fastest browsers available. It lacks some of the fine-tuning customizations in Firefox, but Chrome's minimalist interface, fast page-load times, and support for extensions make the browser appealing to the average user as well as to Google fanatics.
The big change in Chrome 10 is a dramatically faster JavaScript engine. Other changes include moving settings from a separate dialog box into a single tab, and limited hardware acceleration for video playback.

Four versions of Chrome available at the moment are,
Chrome beta (Windows | Mac)
Chrome dev (Windows | Mac)
Chrome Canary (Windows only)

Performance
Based on the open-source WebKit engine and Google's V8 JavaScript engine, Google Chrome debuted to much fanfare because of its rocketing rendering speeds. Two years down the line, that hasn't changed, and the stable version of Chrome remains one of the fastest stable browsers available. The less stable versions, with their more recent improvements and bug fixes, are often faster.Google has claimed that Chrome 10 is 66 percent faster than Chrome 9.

The best thing about this new beta is speed - it's 25% faster on V8 benchmark and 35% faster on the Sunspider benchmark than the current stable channel version and almost twice as fast when compared to original beta version.

301s, 302s, and Meta Refreshes :301s, 302s and meta refreshes are all ways of redirecting one URL to a different URL.

301 refers to the HTTP Status Code for this type of redirect. A 301 Redirect is a permanent redirect and passed between 90-99% of link juice (Ranking Power)

302 also refers to the HTTP Status Code for this type of redirect. A 302 Redirect is a temporary redirect and passes 0% of link juice (Ranking Power). This is bad for SEO.

Meta refreshes are a different type of redirect that is executed on the page level rather than the server level

Img Links:Image links are links that appear as images instead of text in HTML documents. These are common navigational elements on websites as buttons and global navigation.

They pass juice just like other links but don't necessarily include anchor text

Number of Links vs Number of Linking Root Domains:Number of links and number of linking root domains are similar but different metrics.

Number of links (# of links) includes the total amount of links from all websites. Two links from the same website would be included twice.

Number of linking root domains (# of linking root domains) includes only the number of unique root domains linking. Two links from the same website would only be counted as one linking root domain.
