Fintech platform Skyro more than doubles loan disbursements in the Philippines in 2025

Skyro, a digital-first consumer finance platform, disbursed PHP 15.8 billion (over $280 million) and doubled the number of loans issued in the Philippines in 2025. This represents a 2.6-fold increase in loan disbursements year-on-year and places the company among the fastest-growing consumer lenders in the country.

Over the two-year period from 2023 to 2025, cumulative growth reached approximately 5.9-fold in the number of loans issued and 8.7-fold in disbursement value. Skyro’s loan portfolio includes POS (point-of-sale) installment loans, cash loans, and credit lines.

“We are proud to deliver multiple-fold growth in our loan portfolio, significantly outpacing the overall expansion of consumer lending in the Philippines,” said Skyro co-founder Nasim Aliev. “Since launching in 2022, Skyro has focused on offering a simple, convenient, and mobile-first solution at the point of sale, building a business that is clearly in strong demand.”

Aliev added that the company remains focused on expanding access to financing through technology-driven solutions. “Our core mission is to empower people by providing accessible financing. The priority remains delivering innovative, AI-powered digital finance tools that enhance the customer experience.”

Over the past year, Skyro’s customer base doubled and remains on a strong upward growth trajectory. The number of registered users on the Skyro platform reached 6.3 million at the end of 2025. The average loan size grew by nearly 30% year-on-year, driven by a shift toward larger-ticket products.

The number of online partners grew by 405%, reflecting an active push into e-commerce POS lending. Meanwhile, the offline network added 631 new merchant locations, representing 50% growth. By the end of 2025, Skyro had partnered with more than 2,000 merchants, including those operating nearly 9,000 brick-and-mortar stores.

According to Skyro co-founder Arsen Liametov, the company’s momentum in the Philippines is laying the groundwork for broader regional growth.

“We’ve been tripling our revenue every year since 2022,” Liametov said. “Our success in unsecured lending in the Philippines provides a strong foundation for expansion into additional fintech products and new jurisdictions across developing markets.”

With this latest security enhancement, users now receive their OTPs through secure push notifications directly within the app, providing a safer and more seamless verification experience.

Simple steps to follow for Android and iOS phone users to switch to the safe, secure & newly-upgraded in-App One-Time-Passwords (OTPs)

This move by the country’s leading finance super app complies with the directive of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to phase out SMS-based OTPs by June 2026. The measure aligns with the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA), which aims to strengthen cybersecurity safeguards and curb the growing incidence of digital fraud.

For years, SMS-based OTPs have been targeted by scammers as a means of accessing user accounts. The switch to In-App OTPs is an important step toward addressing these vulnerabilities. By sending OTP requests directly to the user’s authenticated GCash app, GCash ensures that only the intended users can receive and use the unique OTPs, protecting them from unauthorized access.

Instant, one-tap authentication also removes the need to switch apps, type codes, or wait for text messages to arrive, resulting in faster transactions and removing exposure to SMS OTPs that scammers and fraudsters can exploit.

“Our upgrade to In-App OTPs is a strategic move to put an end to phishable SMS OTPs. We will shift users to instant, GCash app-verified authentication, to increase the security of their daily transactions,” said Miguel Geronilla, Chief Information Security Officer of GCash.

This enhancement helps streamline the onboarding process, allowing eligible users to complete verification more efficiently and access services faster, subject to standard security and eligibility checks.

OFWs in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar can complete their GCash app verification by using their government-issued foreign IDs.

Previously, applicants were required to submit additional documents to help establish ties to the Philippines, often involving manual email exchanges and extended processing times. For OFWs managing demanding work schedules, limited connectivity, and time constraints, these additional steps frequently delayed full account activation and limited timely access to essential financial services, with verification requirements varying by individual circumstances.

Once verified, users gain full access to core services such as Send Money, Bank Transfer, and Pay Bills, enabling more seamless financial management and faster remittance support for families in the Philippines.

The initiative is focused on newly registered users in the Middle East, particularly those within their first seven days of sign-up. It will run up to July 11, 2026, with previously submitted applications under the old process eligible for resubmission to benefit from faster processing.
