Beauty in the Pot at SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands.

I am a ~~big~~ huge fan of steamboat. I just love, really love drinking hot soup and no better way to drink hot soup (that will not turn cold fast) other than steamboat style.he - not so much.

We had a quick family trip to Genting Highlands few weeks back and we decided to go try Beauty in the Pot. We went to book in the morning but they were not taking any more bookings. Turns out, it's been fully booked for the entire month of December. They asked us to try walk-in during the evening and maybe got place to cater to us (5 adults and 2 kids).

True enough, we walked in and we got a table to ourselves.

We walked into the restaurant and there were so many empty tables, but there was a long line outside waiting for don't know what.

I have no idea if this is part of a marketing strategy of some sort, but the entire time we were there eating, the tables remained empty and the line kept getting longer. I don't get it. At least got an indoor playground to entertain the kids while waiting and complimentary juice and snacks for people outside. Not so bad la I guess.

Anyways, I was beyond excited that we finally got to try this. I have been seeing friends having this 'malat' steamboat (mainly in Singapore) called Hai Di Lao Hotpot and I've always wanted to try cos I love steamboat, remember?

So, here's a fun fact: Hai Di Lao and Beauty in the Pot are competitors. Like these two are the only ones people talk about most of the time. And although I've heard (and read) that these steamboats are overpriced, I've also seen many people going back to it.

So, when I finally got to try it for myself, I was super happy.

Although it was a bit tough to enjoy steamboat with a 7-months old (at that time) but we managed because he slept through most part of it. Heh.

Okay so here goes.

There are 6 types of soup base that you can choose from and there are 3 different kind of pots you can have.

They have a single pot (1-soup), twinspot (2-soups) and quart pots(4-soups). Initially, we understood (from our lack of Mandarin language please) that having 2 different soups is almost the same price as having 4 different ones. So, of course we chose to have quart pot so we can try more soups.

Turns out the price is not the same. Not even close okay.

It is about RM13-RM15 per broth, so if you chose 4 broths, then the total would be about RM60 (assuming all 4-broths are at RM15 each - and yes, broths are refillable). So if you choose 2-broths it will cost about RM30 only okay. Heh.

Lesson is we should learn more about Mandarin language, if not our understanding macam ini lo ya. Hah.

But no regrets please.

Here are the 6 types of soup:

Beauty Collagen Broth
Spicy Nourishing Malat Broth
Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth
Longevity Wild Mushroom Broth
Cooling Coconut Broth
Vitamin C Tomato Sweet Corn Broth

We took the first 4 broths and ordered the ingredients using a tablet (one for every table). The ingredients are more expensive compared to other normal steamboats, but this is not a normal steamboat, now is it. Hah.

My favorite soup has to be the Spicy Nourishing Malat Broth because unlike the common Tomyam soup that can be found in most steamboat place, the malat taste is just so ngam with my tongue. The, the Beauty Collagen Broth comes second because I want to be more beautiful. Heh. The taste of the soup is very comforting and so yummy to the tongue. The broth is white in color and after reading about it, apparently it's cooked with shark cartilage as one of the main ingredient as the beauty booster. So hm.

The mushroom and herbal soup also very yummy please - but more common.

He says: Surprisingly good! All 4 types of the soup has its own special taste! So would say, try all of them! Maybe the weather contributed to the overall experience. Who doesn't like having steamboat on a cold weather right?

She says: The next time I visit Beauty in the Pot, for sure I'm going to order the Spicy Nourishing Malat and Beauty Collagen Soup and drink to my hearts' content. I love it! I don't love the price and I feel like memang very expensive but what to do when you love it wor. Now, my steamboat experience macam different level d - how can I enjoy single pot steamboat from now onwards? Hah.

Also, they have a bar of sauces and fruits that you can take (buffet style) if you pay additional of RM6.80 per person. And if your table has like 5 adults, they will charge you for all 5 adults regardless or not if the others want to take sauces and/or fruits.

We told them we didn't want it. Who needs sauce when you have Malat soup already? Heh. Kiddinggg. But as I go through the receipts now, I realized they actually charged us RM6.80 per person! And we didn't even like go take the sauce or fruits also. APADEI.

Anyways, here are the ingredients that we ordered that day. Oh, and also if you order Luo Han Guo (or another option cannot remember), it's refillable at RM8.90 per glass. We ordered 2 since can refill. Heh. #penanglang

Soups:

Beauty Collagen Broth = RM15

Spicy Nourishing Malat Broth = RM15
Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth = RM15

Condiments (which we specifically said don't want - maybe our Mandarin language barrier again ha) = RM34

10% service charge = RM 31.64

6% service tax (okay their service is very good except for the misunderstanding I guess) = RM18.98

Dessert:

Yuze ice blended = Complimentary!

GRAND TOTAL OF RM367 (about RM73.40 per adult) - five of us.

With this price, you can of course enjoy endless buffet spread at Tao but then, you won't have hot broths to enjoy it with. Heh. And to have it at Genting is even more perfect because hot steamboat with cold weather? Oh please - take my money. Hah.

And if you go dine at after 10:30pm, you get 20% discounts with limited ingredients available to you of course. But come to think about it, it could be an even nicer experience since it will be way colder at night than when the sun is still up. Although most ingredients will probably be out of stock by then. Oh wells.

No idea if Hai Di Lao is gonna be as nice or nicer. Or more competitive in terms of price. But I cannot wait to try when it opens in Gurney Paragon! Time to save some moolahs and stomach space for another malat steamboat session.

Hello everyone!

We visited Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane end of May this year and a few things caught our curiosity - more like hers.

Things that we have not seen and tasted before, this time we would like to share it.

Most of you may have seen it many times already but oh wells.. It was our first Australian trip, hence the over -excited feel :)

Here goes.

Watermelon flavored Mentos - LIMITED EDITION

He says: Really like this one! Brings me back to my younger days!

She says: I love this one! Not a fruit-person, but this one tasted so really watermelon-ish. Very refreshing after.

Vacuum-packed cheddar cheese (given by Singapore Airlines)

He says: Nah! Not a cheese fan!

She says: For cheese lovers, you may like this. Very convenient to keep in the handbag and eat it when you get stranded on a island. Heh. For me, it's a no-no.

Continental's Asian Laksa 'Soup'

He says: I think just by the looks you how geli it is. Looks like maggots wei! and the taste is just geli!

She says:It tasted nothing like laksa at all. Some reviews (online) said that is is so flavorful and delicious. PLEASE. IT WAS HORRIBLE. It's one of the most disgusting 'soup' I have ever tasted. Never again.

Arnott's Coconut & Lychee TimTam

He says: Not nice.. too sweet!

She says: I love coconut and I love lychee so I thought that this would be pretty nice since combo of two things I love. Umm, nah. Not my kind of flavor. I prefer them separately. Heh.

Choco & Mint Mentos

He says: Must try!!! Taste a bit like Andes.

She says: I was super excited to try this one okay. I thought it was very unique, no idea why. It tasted like a local sweet that we have in Malaysia. Very similar to the one that Cadbury produced. Pretty okay.

Can we go to Australia again so we can try more new food stuffs! Hah. We would be doing this whenever we travel overseas or whenever we see new stuff that catches our attention.

This is how we 'lose weight'. Hah.

We are back!

Yes, this time for real. We have taken such a looooong break from food-blogging just because we got lazy. No other excuses whatsoever.

We became lazier and impatient. Everytime the food arrives, we no longer have the patience to 'find' nice lighting and snap photos. All we wanted to do was dive right into it, and we did for the many months ago.

Now that we have came out from that box, we decided that this shall be a thing again.

After all, we do enjoy (a lot) on eating and spending time with our friends, so yeah.

Also, we realized that cafe's food nowadays are so pricey.

Anyways, we took a weekend morning to this cafe that was introduced by a dear friend, Nick and we decided to bring the entire family there.

Just a note that we both are not big fans of overly-priced cafe food especially on breakfast because we orang cina, we prefer dim sums and hokkien mee. Hah.

Enjoy our first post after the absolutely long silence yeah.

The Big Breakfast - RM20

He says: Pretty good but nothing to shout about..

She says:The portion is enough for a man, but I think needs two women to share it. I think the price isn't too bad considering that the portion is pretty big. It tasted pretty standard, like nothing unusually yummy about it.

House BLT - RM14

He says: Gotta be one of the best BLT I have ever had! Actually it is not BLT. It's BELT - Bacon Egg Lettuce and Tomatoes! HAHA.

She says: I ordered this because I wanted to eat something that do not require any cutting. The name itself gave me idea that it's a sandwich but it came out as the deconstructed kind of sandwich. Surprised I was because I was feeling sandwich-ish that morning. Heh. Anyways, the rocket leaves go very well with the sesame seed dressing that they put o the bread. The eggs and bacon was standard. Overall, this dish was very yummy. My favorite I can say.

French Toast - RM12

He says: I would go back there to have this again!

She says: This was just okay for me. Nutella spread inside the bread was too little I feel. Could hardly taste it. It's a very standard dessert kind of dish. You may like this if you're a dessert person. You can probably give better reviews than both of us.

It's Not Gone!

Wow.

So we suddenly realized that we've been missing from this page since May and that's not okay.

We are going into our second week of being married, and while we still have so much on our hands to settle (money is the biggest headache no doubt), we have decided to try and come back to this blog, and share with all you faithful (most likely you just happen to drop by) readers what we have been eating, loving or hating and what we would highly recommend to you guys.

Millions of apologies for leaving this blog so dead for close to 5 months, and I feel so bad ohmigosh.

Now this is one interesting food experience that we had during one of our quick getaway to KL.

One person gets one fish, literally.

This is quite a great find as everyone knows that steamed fish dish is not a cheap dish when it comes to having a few-courses Chinese meal with your family or friends. It is often one of the expensive items where people usually would not order if budget is a thing.

However, at this restaurant, everyone is supposed to get a steamed fish each. It could be because of the price.

The price is depending on the tilapia fish that they get that particular day and it ranges from RM15-RM20, if I am not mistaken.

His sister brought us to one of their cawangan, and we both fell in love with the whole concept of it. The place is usually packed with humans too okay.

They do have other chinese dishes that people normally order. Not everyone who eats there will order one fish each. Some will order 2 plates of steamed fish, a plate of meat and vege dish and that's for dinner.

No, they do not have variety style of cooking the fish. Only one standard style - steam. I think if not mistaken, its teochew style.

He says: Fulahhhhh! I really like this steamed fish! The taste of ginger is really strong though. I guess it is to cover the fishy smell. Another must try in KL!

She says: I am never big fan of fish and I rarely crave for fish-dish, especially steamed kind of fish. I tried this once and now I look forward to my next trip to KL, just so I can have this again. The steamed sauce is really tasty. It's almost like teochew style but this one tastes a lot better with the chopped ginger and cilipadi. You can opt to have it done less spicy. LOVE THIS DISH!

Huong Que Vietnamese Restaurant at Lebuh Melaka.

We are one of those people who fell in love with food items once we've been to the particular country and tasted their original local foods.

It is no surprise that when we came back from Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam not too long ago, we were craving so badly for their local iced coffee, pho and banh mi!

One of the usual Vietnamese Restaurant that we usually go to when we have such cravings is this.

A good friend told us about a place that he thought was better than the one that we always go to. So, we decided to give it a try.

We can never say no to Vietnamese food. Never.

Now that I think about it, I am craving for it now. G.

Not a very big shop.

Cafe Sua Da (Trung Bguyen Vietnamese Coffee Milk) - RM4.70

He says: My favourite! Anywhere, anytime!

She says: Pretty okay. Not too milky, not as strong as I thought it would be.

Pho Bo (Beef Noodle) - RM10.70

He says: Just okay okay. Soup takda ohmmm!

She says: The soup is pretty sweet and lovely. The beef okay-okay amount. I think it tasted really normal and doesn't have much wow factor.

Banh Mi Thit (Vietnamese Pork Sandwich) - RM10.70

He says: Banh mi! Could be better.. the pork is a bit too fat.

She says: I'm sorry but this one I really don't like. I love banh mi, but this one is just different. Bread is different. The roasted pork slice in there tasted fake? It's very plastic-ish and the whole piece is basically frozen fats, or at least it tasted like it la. Nope for me.

Ca Loc Kho Tieu (Snake Head Fish with Pepper) - RM15.70

He says: Like the sauce but overall doesn't suit my taste.

She says: Snake-fish hmm. Interesting. I have never had anything like this. The sauce of this dish is amazing! Too bad it's the dry kind. I cannot express how much I love the sauce. The fish has lots of tiny bones so gotta be careful with that. Overall, this one I love.

Huong Que Vietnamese Restaurant at Lebuh Melaka.

Din Tai Fung Restaurant at Gurney Plaza.

"Sin jamban ho pangsai"

Direct translated from hokkien: New toilet very nice for pooping.

When this restaurant was first opened at Gurney Plaza, there were always long lines outside of the restaurant. Everytime when we were there, the lines just doesn't seem to get any shorter and mind you, we don't go there often so we don't really know how it's like during weekdays and stuff.

We thought the phrase above was perfect to describe the whole crowding thing in front of Din Tai Fung. That and also we thought that the food here must be really good.

And yes, we decided to give it a try.

We were not gonna line up for 45 minutes for a meal so we decided to go during a weekday lunch time. We were wrong. There was a line, just not that insanely long. We waited a while and we got a corner table, very closely placed next to another couple.

We opened the menu and thought that since this is our first time,we shall order their recommended items and maybe a few more dish that has the most delicious look-in-photo.

Let's see how it goes, shall we?

Pork Xiao Long Bao

6 pieces - RM13.10

He says: Like this one. But tasted better ones before.. work it out Din Tai Fung!

She says: So overpriced for this kind of dumpling okay. Got 'soup' inside I know, but it tasted so normal ni. It's pretty normal la. Nothing to shout about.

Spicy Shrimp & Pork Wonton

3 pieces - RM7.50

6 pieces - RM14.00

He says: Normal.. The spicy sauce is pretty good though!

She says: This one I like better than the xiao long bao. Also, really like the chilli, surprisingly though it's not as spicy as it seems.

Hot & Sour Noodle Soup - RM18

He says: Could be the best dish of the night for me. Hot and sour at the same time =D

She says: I thought this was going to be mind-blowing amazing but I have tasted something similar at a hawker place in Penang. Hah. BUT the noodles are amazing! It's chewy and soft at the same time. Prolly one of the best textured noodle I've eaten. I think..

Shrimp & Pork Fried Rice - RM23.90

He says: High expectations but disappointing outcome. Could get a better fried rice at food courts!

She says: It is apparently highly recommended and chef's top pick something like that. Hmm. Let's see. All I tasted on this fried rice was the eggs. Yeah, I dare say I make better fried rice at home. This is very very disappointing.

Stir-Fried Baby String Bean with Minced Pork - RM25.10

He says: Normal.. come on!

She says: Bleh.

Din Tai Fung Restaurant at Gurney Plaza.

Frozen Squids with Subi.

If there is something that would make our life easier and faster, we would definitely love to have it. Being full-time office employees, both of us never have the time or energy to buy grocery items and then head home to cook.

It's almost to impossible, and partly because we are not living in the same house (yet!) so that makes it more difficult to do all the cooking and stuff.

However, the boy loves to cook. I mean like he seriously loves inventing new ways of cooking, be it a normal stir-fry dish or pan-fry the chicken breast fillet. I hate to admit this but most of the time, his cooking tastes really good. Now, he's gonna go all bangga on me. Heh.

We were given an opportunity by Jar Creations to test this one product out, and it's called Subi. It was our first time hearing such brand and they gave us not 1, but 3 different products to try them on.

Here's a little something about Subi that you may now know yet and will know after reading this.

1. Subi is one of the seafood products brand produced under Golden Fresh Sdn Bhd.

2. Golden Fresh S/B is a popular frozen food processing company is Malaysia.

3. The variety seafood products are locally made with the best quality kind.

4. Customers satisfaction is their priority.

5. Their seafood are mainly caught from the Atlantic Ocean and Australia.

6. Subi's products are free of saturated fat.

7. Their savoury snacks offer the easiest way to cook and most ideal for those who are busy.

We were excited to cook them because he loves to eat squid and I don't find them in my must-eat-list because most of the time, the ones I have had before are way too chewy and I find them pretty tasteless, so no need to waste time eat. Hah.

I was looking forward to this, thinking that this could change my mind of my general perception of squid.

Oh and one more reason why we love Subi's Squid Products! We don't have to de-frost them. It's cook-able right from the freezer to your pan. HOW CONVENIENT IS THAT.

There are 3 ways of cooking Subi's frozen products.

- Deep Fryer

- Air Fryer

- Toaster Oven

Gone were the days when we had to take out the pan, pour oil and fry our dinner/supper and that was the only way we could enjoy deep-fried frozen stuff.

With Subi's products, it's good to know that there are the other 2 ways we could do with it.

Subi's Squid Chips (coated with delicious curry spices) - RM13.79

He says: Tastes like Kentucky Fried Sotong! Original flavour! Must try!

She says: Among the 3 ways of cooking them, I love the air-fryer because no oil is needed and still came out so delicious. The spices that coats the squid is salty-kind and that is why it makes the perfect snack at home. Oh and the squid was not chewy at all. Soft and yumms.

Subi's Crunchy Spiced Squid (marinated with unique herbs and spices - best seller in the market) - RM14.85

He says: Not chunchy enough but still.. its not bad! Oh ya, if you like squid heads like me, take this!

She says: This one was crunchy and a lil spicy if I remembered correctly, but it was really mild kind of spicy. The squid for this version is not so much on the squid's body but the squid's head. So, if you like that part of a squid, you will love this one.

Subi's Spicy Squid Bites (aromatic squid pieces - latest product) - RM12.59

He says: Could be spicier!

She says: This one super easy to makan! It's popcorn squid! Love this one!

If you do not already know, we are engaged! We have been engaged for about 2 months now and we finally arranged a night for us both to have fancy-schmancy dinner to celebrate our engagement.

We thought of trying a new place and a new kind of food, hence the restaurant of the night. We heard quite a few of good reviews on this place and thought that this would be the perfect time to try it out. Got reason to wine and dine like a boss. Heh.

He called in the noon and made a booking ahead so we will not be greeted with, "I'm sorry but we're fully booked today" when we get there. So, prior planning is good.

Spanish kind of night it shall be then :)

We were the first customer to walk in for dinner that night and we were greeted with a warm welcome. We sat down and looked at the menu. It was like new language for us. Our intention that night was to have their signature dishes and wine away the night, laughing at each other being all awkward and all.

One particular thing that we ~~hated~~ dislike was how the Waiter 1 treated us. He gave us the menu and because we are so unfamiliar with Spanish kind of foods, we asked a few questions on certain food items and there he was, standing with his unhappy face, so unwilling to tell us more details on the items.

We even asked him what are some of the signature dishes and he rudely replied. Maybe it's his accent or the way he explained but we couldn't understand what he was saying and when he needed to repeat, he raised both his eyebrows, looked at us as though we're dumb.

Umm. That is plain rude okay. Then, he gave us a list of wine bottles to order and we told him we will just have a glass each since we are going to need to drive to somewhere else later, he raised his eyebrows again and stared at us.

Wah. Since it was a special night, we decided we shall just not let that bother us. Thank God it was another waiter who served us our food and smiled to us everytime he did that. He even helped us take a photo and yeah, it's not the best photo in the world, but A for effort :)

Anyways, shall we now proceed for food thoughts now. Heh.

We were taking quite a while to choose between the pre-set course or choose on our own from their general menu. We decided that since it's such a new thing for us, we will just go ahead with FOR 2 course.

There are a total of 7 food items in the FOR 2 for the price of RM132++ (10% service charge and 6% GST).

Boquerones

Spanish white anchovies on watermelon with mint, extra virgin olive oil and sea salt.

He says: Fishy. However, it works quite well with the mint and watermelon.

She says: I thought that this was an interesting dish. I don't like fruits in general but I was curious to try this one. Mint and watermelon, best combo ever. However, the anchovies were a bit too fishy to my liking. There's this not-fresh-smell if I may say that.

Cold Capellini - We asked to change the Mackerel dish to this because she doesn't like Mackerel

Angel hair served with konbu (Japanese seaweed) and lumpfish caviar

He says: I love this one! Maybe because there is not much cold dish that I've tasted before. Please try!

She says: So funny to eat angel hair/pasta cold, but let me tell you something. This is a must try because it's very different! I thought I was in another world when I had this in my mouth. The taste is so unique I can't help but have more! Like this one.

Mix Mushroom Salad

Bacon bits with balsamic dressing on a bed of green vegetables

He says: Not bad.. Love the mushrooms!

She says: Quite a normal salad dish and of course it was better than those bacon-less salad because hello, it's bacon.

Anchovy on Toast

Anchovy + red pepper + eggplant on toast

He says: Love it! Toasted to perfection. Must try!

She says: I like that the toast was hard but not too hard. The anchovy and red pepper was really soft and mushy so the texture that the toast gives is very ngam. Not a big fan of this dish. Quite okaylah. Should try tho.

Spanish Bacon

Spanish bacon served with lychee salsa

He says: Hahaha. 2nd lychee dish that I know. The other was "lychee pie". Man, this is good, the bacon is scrumptious and the lychee topping surprised me how good it is.

She says: First taste felt so similar to the canned ham that we eat at home. Second taste and you know this is good stuff. Third taste onwards, my mind blew. Who could ever thought that lychee will go so well with this bacon? Well, El Faro's Chef did! And it was brilliant! Especially love the fact that there is no layer of fats in them. Love this one!

Patatas Bravas

Crispy potatoes served with bravas sauce and aiolli

He says: Not bad.. like it. The potatoes were soft inside and crispy outside. The sauce? Just nice.

She says: I thought it would taste like KFC's cheesy wedges. WRONG! Nothing like that at all. The potatoes were not too soft and the brava sauce was not overly sweet. It was a very good dish. Fork licking good for sure.

Moorish Chicken Thigh

Served with purple pickled cabbage, carrots and moorish sauce

He says: Just so so for me. Not special to be honest but worth trying.

She says: The chicken thighs were perfect! The Moorish sauce was amazing. It's very similar to Ayam Milanese that we eat at Kapitan, but this one is like an elevated kind. The chicken portion was chun-chun. Amazing dish.

It is no longer a surprise that we both love Vietnamese food and it's all thanks to a trip to Ho Chi Minh together!

She has always been a big fan of Vietnamese food and as much as she always talks about it, we had always find it difficult to find a decent Vietnamese restaurant that serves decently good Vietnamese food.

Not till one day when she was introduced to this amazing restaurant by her sister and brother in law. They brought her there once and now, it became one of our favorite place to eat at.

It's humble shop looks small from the outside but they can actually cater up to 20 round tables that sits 4 persons if we're not mistaken. Lovely Vietnamese place!

Cafe Sua: Vietnam Milk Coffee (RM3.50)

He says: Could be the best coffee I have tasted?

She says: I'm not a coffee person because I don't like bitter coffee and it's usually the bitter coffee that people like so I am not a coffee person. This one I LOVE because it's not bitter. It's sweet kind of coffee. Funny tho because there's a bit of bitterness in it. LOVE THIS ONE.

Pho Bo: Vietnam Beef Koay Teow Soup (RM7.50)

He says: Thumbs up for this! A big fan now =)

She says: It's better than our local beef koay teow soup okay. You have to put in the raw veg (basil and other kind of leaves) into the soup and let it soak in it for a while. If you don't eat vege, then take it out after. If you eat vege, eat it together with the noodles. BEST THING EVER. The soup is the sweet type.

Banh Mi Thit Nuong: Vietnam BBQ Pork Sandwich (RM6)

He says: A little bit dry. Could be better!

She says: THIS IS NOT BANH MI! Hah. I'm sorry but the real banh mi that you eat in Vietnam is not baguette bread okay. I feel locally it is impossible to make the same banh mi as the ones in Vietnam because of the bread. It's just different, so this one I no like. Sorry!

Aloha people!

Yes, we are both still alive and very well thank you :)

There has been so much happening around us (2 months of no update from us we are so sorrryyyy!) and one of the big thing is WE'RE ENGAGED! We will share that next time when we have more time to collate the photos and share the happiness with you guys!

For a few months already that she was craving for a good ramen and well, we have been searching to find good ones in Penang and this was one of the place that was recommended by you guys, so let's see how it went.

Gyoza (fried dumplings) - RM12 for 6 pieces

He says: Not a big fan of this but its pretty good! Served hot and i like the crispiness outside.

She says: Everytime we eat somewhere, sure got at least one side dish. THIS SO TRUE MAN! Hah. Anyways, this was served hot and that's why I feel it was pretty good. If cold, sure not nice. Not a bad dish.

Piri Kara Tantan Men (hot & spicy Ramen with spicy minced pork) - RM24

He says: Its not that spicy but still good! The taste is really different from other places.

She says: Very good first impression! The soup was not as spicy as I would like it to be. The noodles, springy and soft love it. Broth tastes authentic.

Yaki-Miso Ramen (fried soybean paste flavour) - RM23.50

He says: I love it. Became a ramen fan after leaving this place.

She says: It was pretty salty so they added more prok broth inyo it instead of plain hot water so that's a bonus point. So authentic lah this place. I didn't quite like this ramen? It's unfair for me to say that it's a bad ramen as I've tasted the real good ones in Osaka, but I didn't manage to finish it. I think its mostly because my expectation was really high due to people's recommendation. Bleh. So yeah, go try it. You might like it.

Hello there you all. We realized that every time we post something up, it always starts with this kind of greetings. The kind where we haven't been here for the longest time already! Haha!

Well, since we've been gone for so long (actually not very long also right), we shall post on another of our all-time favorite cuisine!

Yes, another Thai food post!

Told you that we are big lovers of Thai Food. If we're both so busy with whatever things and you try to get us out for a night right, always use Thai food as the winning point. CONFIRM WE BOTH WILL SAY YES! Hehe.

We personally think that majority of the people in Penang likes Thai food. No, we don't have some kind of survey of whatsoever but it just seems like Thai food has been surviving for so many years here. As long as your price is reasonable and your food is good, sure got return customers.

If your cook is from Thailand, most likely your Thai food will taste awesome. At least that's what we feel lah.

So, this place is pretty famous already. People know about Chok Dee Thai, Burmah Road. In fact, everytime you drive past Burmah Road, for sure got cars in front of the shop.

The shop is quite small, so do make your reservations first if you're planning to dine in with a big number of people okay.

We enjoyed our time at Chok Dee Thai, Burmah Road with the company of amazing people. Thank you Judson Lim for the treat! Our lawyer, ladies and gentlemen. Yes, he's still available :))

He says: Pretty good! More of a lemak kind of tomyam =)

She says: When I saw the soup, I was like, "Confirm nice already!" and I was right! Milky and spicy!

Tofu Curry Paste - RM 12/RM 15/RM 20

He says: Thumbs up! Like the gravy. Very authentic thai taste to it.

She says: This was highly recommended by Judson himself so my expectation is like so high on this dish. First serving: LOVE IT. Second time: Hmm. Sill nice okay. Third time: Err.. starting to feel jelak d. But overall very aromatic and different.

Crispy marinated Pork Strips - RM 16/RM 28

He says: A bit dry to me. But its not bad when dip into the thai sauce.

She says: If its crispierrr, then it would have been perfect! Quite a dry dish to eat with rice.

Salted Egg Squid - RM 16/RM18/RM 28

He says: Not a big fan of salted eggs! A no no for me.. the squid is quite nice and chewy too!
She says: Love this dish! Salted egg dishes are always of prawns so this one with squid was actually really nice.

Tub Tim Krob (water chestnut and jackfruit served in coconut milk) - RM6

He says: A little bit too sweet and the taste is a little bit weird.

She says: A bit too watery to my liking. Normal je.

Korean Fire Noodle: Flaming Chicken Fried Noodles by Samyang.

I'm sure by now, many of you have seen the KOREAN FIRE NOODLE CHALLENGE on Facebook and Youtube and other social media. People call it fire noodle because its spiciness is beyond the world, apparently. So we've heard and it got us really curious.

We found out about this fire noodle quite some time ago but couldn't seem to find any in Penang at that time. Apparently, you can find them in Singapore. So, we kinda let the thought go since neither one of us are going to that Merlion City anytime soon.

Then, she found out that there is one Korean Mart at Prima Tanjung, Tanjung Tokong has this Korean Fire Noodle. IMAGINE OUR EXCITEMENT but because we were both so busy that time, we kinda forgot about it.

Not until he went to Singapore for SEA Games and his good friend got for him a few packets of this Samyang's Bool Dak Bokkeum Myun, which is also called, Flaming Chicken Fried Noodles. She was surprised that he actually remembered about it to be honest. Thank you Sniper Teck and Bernice!

So, we got home from work on a working weekday and decided to give this FIRE NOODLE a try. She's super blessed that he enjoys cooking :)

Honestly, we were like, "Aiya, cannot be that spicy lah" and "We're Chinese leh, for sure easy peasy for us"

We seriously thought it couldn't be that spicy as what is portrayed in the videos of these people taking up this Fire Noodle Challenge. So, we decided to also take a video on ourselves finishing one packet EACH. No sharing whatsoever okay. Continue scrolling down to watch our time-lapse video okay?

That was our challenge.

Korean Fire Noodle for two persons please :)

Challenge yourself and put all the paste into the noodle okay.

Pour/Scoop/Put/Squeeze the paste into the noodles (boiled and water drained out) and mix well.

Dinner for two.

He says: First, Sarah is such a noob in eating spicy stuff! kekeke! =p But really, this one hurts my tongue real bad and made my lips feels like it got stung by a bee. Like most Korean instant noodle, the texture of the noodle is really springy! The spiciness tortures you slowly as you eat, burning you as you feed. Love this thing! Must try!

She says: Let me first start by describing the noodle. It's thick kind of instant noodle that is NOT THE SAME as any of our local instant noodles. It's springy and quite chewy in a good way. It's very yummy okay. When you smell the cooked dish, it instantly projects certain signal to your brain that makes you salivate. No kidding! It smells really good and not that spicy surprisingly. The first mouth in and I was like, "Oh, okaylah. Not that spicy also!" By my third mouth, my eyes were already tearing up and my nose started to be stuffy. If you know me well enough, you would know that I can take spicy stuff, like I enjoy cili padi in my rice for dinner kind of spicy. But this one, this one is just pure madness. I've never NEVER eaten anything that could make me actually cry during the eating process. Ohh and I wanted to give up halfway through. That's how spicy it was. Of course I finished the whole thing because cannot lose to Adrian Koay. Heh. I love the taste but at the end, it got too spicy to even enjoy the taste of it. VERY VERY SPICY LIKE THE CRAZY TORTURING KIND BUT SUPER YUMMY. You all should make this a must-do/try in your bucket list.

This fire noodle, not a joke.

We did not have any lipstick, lip balm or lip gloss on our lips okay. The redness on our lips is also not because of the sauce from the noodles. We wiped our mouth super clean and still, it was THAT red and a bit puffy.

He took less than five minutes to finish his bowl and she took close to 10 minutes.

Special shoutout to LOTD Clothing for their comfortable top (the one he is wearing in the video) that makes sweating not a pain in the behinds. It's definitely one of our favorite to wear now!

Thai Food at BP Anjung Indah, Balik Pulau

This is a post super overdue! We have always planned to post this up few days after our special day but we never had the chance to as this year has been the busiest year ever.

It's one of those place where we always drive past and said, "This place so nice lah. One day we come try okay?" and never actually remembered coming here to try the food.

Not until when we were scratching hard on our heads thinking of where to eat to celebrate our three years of date-ship. Then, both of us thought of this place somehow. We never knew the name of the place, not until after we dine there. You are very welcome :)

Those who drives to Balik Pulau a lot, like on a weekly basis, you would know where this place is although it's located on top of the entrance. So, you might not know that there is actually a restaurant on top, overlooking the always-forgotten-Balik Pulau.

He says: Love this one =) served hot and spicy!
She says: I loke creamy tomyam soup and this is just it. Too big for two of us though. Heh.

Green Curry Chicken - RM18 (S)

He says: The taste is really authentic! Very Thai.

She says: I love how much vegetables they put it in there. The chicken is bone-y if I may say. If they serve chicken fillet instead of those with bones, then I will love it a lot!

Sizzling Bean Curd - RM12 (S)

He says: The Japanese tauhu is as smooth as criminal! Haha! Must try!

She says: This one for kids only lah! Kidding! It was his idea to order this by the way. Very soft and very tasteful. Yummy.

Deep Fried Fish (Siakap) with Pinang Sauce -RM40 (RM5 per 100grams)

He says: The sauce is really tasty. A little bit sour, sweet and spicy!
She says: So crunchy and huge for us! The sauce surprisingly very nice! I love this one!

Mixed 4-Beans in Ka-Pi - RM18 (S)

He says: Nothing special but still not bad.
She says: Best of all worlds okay. One of my favorites. The sambal very nice, not too spicy.

It gets even more romantic at night and we didn't even have to spend few hundreds to enjoy this kind view :)

Korean Table All Ban Restaurant at Northam Hotel, Penang

First of all, we want to thank Korean Table All Ban Restaurant for having all of us over for such a wonderful spread of dinner. It was beyond wonderful to be part of your soft launching!

Korean Table All Ban Restaurant is Penang's first fine dining Korean style! Yep, you see that right. Fine dine anyeonghaseyo style. We were both excited to try it out as this will be both our first time.

This restaurant is opened and managed by a mother-daughter team. Needless to say, mom, Ms Yang Hae Ree is the head chef of the restaurant and daughter, Alice is the manager of the place.

The family is fully Korean, migrated to Penang many many years ago. With that history and more stories being told to us, we knew that everything that we were going to taste were going to be 100% Korean. Excited already okay!

We were all served with a set of fine dining meal, which you can enjoy too at the price of RM29.90 per person. Prices are exclusive of beverages.

Food items that you will get for that price are as below. If you would like to have more items such as stir fried octopus and ginseng soup, then the set meal would be RM39.90.

Makgeolli (Korean alcoholic beverage) - RM22

He says: Looks like soya milk, tastes like tuak! This rice wine is sweet and I could go back for this.

She says: Surprisingly, it tastes so mild and sweet. A must try!

Andrew says: Sweeter than white wine. To me it was okay, not strong at all.

Ee Lynn says: Ask alcoholic Melissa Hoo. HAHAHAHHAH!

James says: For a beer lover this drink comes out a little too bland. A little sweet aftertaste with rice residue when you drink it. Not a strong alcohol but good for an after meal drink. Kinda like drinking tea.

Jelissa says: Ask Mel, she drank mine. Haha! But in all honesty, I'm no expert on alcohol so I can't say much here.

Melissa says: Sweet and nice. The alcohol taste was not too strong.

Tracy says: If you are a fan of sweet wine, you outta give this a try.

Hobakjuk (Korean porridge made with steamed pumpkin)

He says: Taste like.. a combination of pumpkin soup and porridge? The taste wasn't so strong compared to pumpkin soups but special somehow!

She says: The texture is thicker than normal soup. It's like in between porridge and soup kind. Not a big fan of pumpkin but this one not bad.

Andrew says: Never really a fan of pumpkin soup also I think it was a little too much for me. At first taste it was okay, but later on I just wasn't into finishing it anymore.

Ee Lynn says: Also something I've never tried before... only see it a lot when I watch korean series.. always wondered how it tastes like.. super refreshing.

James says: I'm not much of a pumpkin fan but The texture and the flavors are preserved well which to me makes it very presentable and with nice garnishing on top which made me dig in (although i didn't finish it)

Jelissa says: Thick and creamy. But taste a lil too plain. Perhaps the serving was a lil too much for me. Would be good if they have more than 3 melon seeds in it? Hehe!

Melissa says: Okok only. Nothing much.

Tracy says: Texture like pumpkin puree. Not really a fan.

Fresh salad with pineapple, corn and sesame dressing.

He says: Not a fan of salads but this one is not bad!

She says: I thought that the pineapple and corn dressing was really unique. It's sweet and very fruity. Not quite sure whether I like it or love it. Heh.

Andrew says: This dish was fresh and flavorful. The dressing is definitely the highlight for this dish.

Ee Lynn says: Salad was refreshing.

James says: Lettuce and beet root.. a good healthy combine. The light dressing makes it all tasty. I'm guessing if you're not a green lover you wouldn't touch this.

Jelissa says: Well, the veges were crunchy and fresh. The highlight was the salad dressing. It's got corn in it I think. But nothing too extraordinary.

Melissa says: Just like the ordinary salad, but the sauce was really nice!

Tracy says: Pretty much like a normal salad.

Jeon (Korean pancakes served in 3 different flavors - kimchi, chives and seafood)

He says: This dish reminds me of TRAFFIC LIGHT! Hahaha! 3 out of 3 tastes awesome! Must try =)

She says: This is a tough one to pick. ALL THREE were amazing. All has its own unique flavor to it and the thing about this dish is that I could just keep having them without feeling like its too much. ONE OF MY FAVORITE for sure!

Andrew says: Tried all three, loved all three. Don’t really need the sauce that was given to compliment the pancakes. All three pancakes alone tasted real good but the sauce isn’t that bad as well, but I would prefer having it without the sauce to actually taste the pancake.

Ee Lynn says: Only tried the kimchi pancake in other restaurants. Really like that we can try different sorts.. and it's in small bite sizes! Like in korean series! super yummy and smelled damn good.

James says: Crunchy pancakes made with 3 different kinds of veg exploding with flavor. I would finish 2 plates of rice with just this dish alone. That will tell you how good they are.

Jelissa says: Not sure if they serve all 3 types to everyone as well? But I was lucky to get to try all 3! My favourite was the spinach one, crunchy outside, soft in the inside. Actually they're all like that but the spinach's a lil more to the sweet side while the kimchi one, sour-ish. I forgot the name of the sauce they gave but that definitely added some yummy points!

Melissa says: Very very delicious pancakes. Texture and taste were perfect.

Tracy says: These mini size pancakes that came in 3 different flavours and I must say they all taste so delicious!

Fresh Kimchi

He says: Thumbs up for this. Fresh, cold and sour at the same time.

She says: It's really crunchy and fresh. I love the taste of the paste but not so much on the freshness. I could taste the raw-ness of the cabbage and probably that's why I would prefer those fermented ones.

Andrew says: If you ask me, I actually prefer this FRESH kimchi instead of those fermented ones. The soury taste isn't there but it is so fresh that it compliments every other dish. I had it wrapped together with the grilled chicken dish.

Ee Lynn says: Fresh kimchi sipek power. lol I memang love kimchi.. and its fresh! still crunchy etc

James says: This isn't your regular Kimchi. Freshly made by the day, You won't really taste the fermented cabbage and the smell isn't that strong. So for those who do not like kimchi for the smell, you'd love this one.

Jelissa says: I would personally prefer sour kimchi over this one. This is not sour at all. While it has it's uniqueness, I think the seasoning and the veg was not thoroughly soaked through. Taste as if they were two separate items- veg dipping in kimchi sauce. Or maybe that's how it's meant to be?

Melissa says: This is sooo good! Crunchy, fresh and not too sour! Unlike other kimchi you have from other restaurant! Highly recommended! I’m hooked!

Tracy says: Fresh and crispy kimchi. Not too sour. I'm generally not a big fan of kimchi but i reckon kimchi lovers would approve.

Jap Chae (Korean stir fried potato glass noodles with seafood)

He says: HAHA! My favourite Korean dish =) Springy enough and the taste is flavorful!

She says: The glass noodles were soft but not to that extent of too mushy and the flavor of this dish is not overwhelming. Overall, quite a yummy dish.

Andrew says: I think this was the most chinese dish in a Korean Restaurant. Am not complaining though, it was so good that I could have finished the whole plate myself.

Ee Lynn says: The stir fried tanghoon thingy damn good. noodles are so springy. different from what I usually taste in other korean restaurants.

James says: Chinese and glass noodles, seem to bring blessing when you have it on your birthday, but this time around I'll make an exception. I"m kidding I love glass noodles, this dish really has the flavors mix in your mouth with the natural sweetness from the other ingredients complementing each other Makes it perfect.

Jelissa says: This was mouthwatering and yummy. Though it doesn't feel Korean-ish but good nonetheless.

Melissa says: Ooooh…this was really good. The noodle was really springy and tasted just nice.

Tracy says: Well seasoned. Really good. Noodles were nicely cooked.

Sam Gae Tang (Korean stuffed chicken soup with ginseng)

He says: A very special yet interesting dish! At first glance, I thought this will taste like ginseng or herbal chicken soup we have at home but no! , the soup has a very very light ginseng taste, almost like hot water! The cool thing is that when the chicken is dipped into rough salt, it became tasty!

She says: Got glutinous rice inside the chicken okay! The meat is crazy soft! Don't have to put energy whatsoever sure can get a whole bunch by just putting your fork into it. MAD SOFT. The soup was served bland on purpose because it's healthy like that. This dish was served with sea salt at the side so you just gotta dip the chicken into the salt and eat. Amazing effect. Amazinggg. Chinese people will find it hard to love the soup because we're the kind who loves strong flavored foods.

Andrew says: I thought I was sick and it caused my tongue to not taste anything from the first spoon of soup I put into my mouth. Then there was the salt that made sense to the tasteless soup and chicken. Something bout the salt though, it doesn’t taste like normal salt, it made the dish a dab more flavorful. The chicken was nice even without the salt though its tasteless, maybe its because of the soft texture.

Ee Lynn says: Very nice. super interesting. first that I've ever tried in Penang.. eating it with the um.. healthy? salt brought the experience to a whole different level.. super loved eating it with the fresh kimchi.

James says: The Ginseng Chicken soup isn't something a taste fanatic would appreciate at first, but cosidering the health content you might give it a second go. With natural salt provided for you to dip in for that little extra flavor if you like it salty.

Jelissa says: The soup itself was quite flavourless but I guess the main specialty was the chicken with glutinous rice in it! I like the part where we dab a lil course salt on to the chicky. The salt itself isn't too salty like the usual salt, just nice to add a lil flavour to the meat. Salt actually smells nice & natural, like the sea!

Melissa says: At first it tasted a lil bland, but then slowly the the fragrant from the chicken soup just started seeping through. The soup was really thick and could really taste all the chicken soup goodness!

Tracy says: This was certainly a pleasant surprise. Chicken was served alongside with unsalted soup. We were asked to dip the chicken meat into a bowl of rice/salt, then consume it with the soup. By doing so, it brought out more flavor of the dish. Thumbs up!

Spicy Charcoal Chicken BBQ

He says: Making me sing "everything is awesome"!

She says: Chicken tender and marinate sauce superb. Lovely dish. perfect with a bowl of white rice.

Andrew says: This one tasted a lot like satay to me and I don’t know why. How is this a Korean dish is still a mystery to me but nonetheless it was very delicious. Added wrapping with the kimchi, SUPERB!

Ee Lynn says: Barbequed pork is it? Very nice and smelled super good. again, different from usual korean restaurants.

James says: And finally.. the best for the last. Grill and chicken.. what can go wrong? Well cooked to that golden brown we all wish we had done the same with our chicken dish at home. with the added peppers for not just garnishing but that tinge of spiciness, really brings out the whole dish. This is the one you eat with lettuce and the side dishes.

Jelissa says: My favourite! Juicy chicken meat, flawlessly marinated. I could devour the whole plate all by myself! Unbeatable!

Melissa says: This is delicious too! The meat was tender and it tasted so delicious! Wrapped with vege and the sauce. Yummy!

Tracy says: Juicy, tender, caramelised chicken. Yum.

Korean side dishes

He says: Complements the whole meal very well.

She says: Can I just say first that I love transparent bowls like these? *points to the photo* SO NICE. Anyways, the side dishes were yummy. All freshly made and refillable. Yums.

Andrew says: Lovely side dishes, tried them all, favorite would be the anchovies.

Ee Lynn says: Side dishes were mind boggling and tasty! again, different from other restaurants.

James says: The lovely thing about korean food is the side dishes. Served all the time and refillable! just pick your favourite and dig away. Grab some chicken, mix the side dishes in ( don't know their names) and wrap it up in your lettuce leaf and munch away.

Jelissa says: They all looked good, nicely presented in classy glass bowls. Somehow they all taste pretty much the same.

Melissa says: The side dishes offered were different from other restaurants.

Tracy says: Korean food is never complete without their side dishes. My favorites were the anchovy and eggplant dish.

Bibimbap (mixed rice with vegetables and soybean paste)

He says: Ini best, another dish which is on the must try list!

She says: Soybean paste is mixed according to your level of spicy preference. Mix all the vegetables and you get yourself a pot of goodness! For vegetable lover like myself, gotta love this one!

Andrew says: At first glance the dish doesn’t appeal to me, maybe cause its just rice with a lot of different veges and I am not a vege fan. But after Alice helped us to mix it with the chilli paste, It looked so appetizing that I had to try it. There wasn’t much to say after I had the first spoon. Lets just say I kept eating till I couldn’t eat no more.

Ee Lynn says: Love that they serve it in hot stone bowl. very nice.. could use an egg on top!

James says: It's really my first time having it. Apart from an all vegetable mix the rice was really nice and crunchy. Taste wise.. can't say much as there isn't another i can compare with yet but I guess it's something or an acquired taste

Jelissa says: I was never a fan of bibimbap. Basically plain vege + rice. But this one is very interesting. Perhaps it's the chili paste that makes all the difference. Owner was nice enough to mix for us, so the rich was not overly cooked/burnt on one part of the hot stone bowl. In fact, I find the crunchy part of the rice pretty addictive! Thumbs up for this one!

Melissa says: Felt the bibimbab was acceptable. Nothing outstanding about this dish.

Tracy says: One of my favorites! Truly an authentic korean bibimbap. Love the crunchy rice at the bottom.

Kimchi Jjigae (kimchi soup)

He says: KIM CHI! Hot enough and it was just right! Yummyy!

She says: ANOTHER FAVORITE OF MINE. Though its a bit too sour for my liking, I still love the flavor to the soup. Love digging into the soup to look for the treasures inside. Heh.

Andrew says: No idea if it’s just me or this is a very unknown kimchi soup to me. I have tasted a lot of different kimchi soup, it is usually sour or too spicy for me but this one was just perfect to me. Usually I would have started sweating after the third spoon but for this one, i could drink it all day.

Ee Lynn says: POWER. spicy and sour.. super "open appetite" HEHEHE!

James says: KimChi soup... if only there was ramen in it. Very balanced in taste I must say. IT isn't too sour or spicy.

Jelissa says: Very interesting. I've always been a fan of kimchi soup and this was one of the best I've ever tasted! Not too spicy, vege, tofu, meat etc not too soft(overcooked?). Looks appealing too! Haha!

Melissa says: It tasted like really authentic kimchi soup, plain and comfortable.

Tracy says: Good balance. Some might find it abit too sour but I like it.

Korean Dessert

He says: Pear and "chocolate ang ku koay"! Not badd..

She says: Took one bite on the red bean jelly and didn't like it because I'm not a fan of red bean at all. So for those who loves red bean, you'll find this dessert just perfect. It's not overly sweet.

Andrew says: When it was served, it does look like chocolate before the taste of red bean kicks in after the first bite. To me it was normal, nothing to great. Though the pear was nice though

Ee Lynn says: CHOCOLATE and pear. lol. red bean and pear was a good light end to the satisfying meal.

James says: Pear and jelly for desert. Who could ask for a better pallet cleanser than that. although I wish there were more pears on the plate.

Jelissa says: Pear was well, usual. I do enjoy the red bean ones though. Not too sweet. Smooth texture, authentic red bean taste. Red bean lovers ought to try!

Melissa says: Not bad. But nothing too great about this.

Tracy says: Somehow it reminded me of malaysian 'dodol'. It came in a tiny portion but i didn't mind because I was already so full by the time we got to dessert!

Chocolate Bun at Fairy Pastry at Sungai Petani, Kedah

It feels like there's still so many more places that we have yet to discover in Sungai Petani. All the good food is everywhere! Any recommendations please let us know and we will try them out!

When we were at Sungai Petani earlier on the review of the famous Mee Kari, he decided to bring her to this bakery shop called Fairy. It's quite big for a bakery we would like to think. It's along the main road and for sure won't be able to miss it.

We walked in and he knew exactly where to go and what to get. She was just letting him do everything. We are not sure if this chocolate bun is famous in SP, but if its not then it should be.

There was one time when she went to SP all by herself and she brought back 5 packets of chocolate bun!

We love the variety of breads and buns they have got there. Spoilt for choices!

Chocolate Bun - RM2.20

He says: Chocolate oozes out and burned my lips the first time I take a bite. Crunchy yet soft inside. 2 thumbs up!

She says: I've got to say that I underestimated the taste when he recommended it to me. My first bite was just amazing. The bun is crunchy outside and so soft on the inside. The chocolate paste inside is not like the usual creamy and diluted. It's thick and the chocolate taste is beyond words. Not too sweet and they not kiamsiap with the filling! Perfectt.

We lost count on how many times we actually say, "We are back!"

We are! It's been the busiest two months this year and now that we're slowly getting our groove back, it's time to share with you another meal that we both really enjoy having! More of her lah actually. He's not the biggest fan of it because generally he doesn't like curry mee so yeah.

This place was introduced by a friend obviously because Sungai Petani is a new land for us. We have never been there before. It was only when both of us started working and some of our clients are based there that we make trips down there. Most of the time, separately so we never got any chance to review on this.

Not till one day when we both planned a trip there and decided to share with you this amazing place.

It's already a very famous stall in Sungai Petani. We'll tell you why in a sec.

Sometimes, when she goes there for lunch at about 12pm, everything will be sold out. SOLD OUT. So, based on past experiences, we went there at about 1030am-11am so that we will not be disappointed right.

The famous Mee Kari!

The line was insanely long, but the thing about it was we didn't wait that long before it was our turn. The chef very fast and efficient.

The unique thing about this Sungai Petani's Mee Kari is that it's served with either fresh fish fillet or pork ribs for only RM5! Of course if you want both also can at RM6, which we thought was a great price.

We can't think of anywhere that serves curry mee with fish fillet or pork ribs. Usually only hokkien mee has that option to add pork ribs. So, this was really nice.

Sungai Petani Mee Kari with fish fillet - RM5

He says: Would go back for that even-though not a big fan of curry mee. Now I know why friends from SP always introduce this to me!

She says: The soup is pretty standard but towards the yummy side. The chilli is uniquely so delicious. Then, the fish fillet is so soft and fresh and just oh so yums. Definitely my favorite ~~curry mee~~ mee kari so far!

Water Cress Valley at Tringkap, Cameron Highlands.

You cannot always be having steamboat up there in Cameron Highlands, right?

I mean, of course it's the norm thing to do because of the cold weather. It's super warm and nice to sit around the table and taking your time to eat those soupy stuff.

BUT YOU CAN'T BE HAVING THEM FOR MOST OF YOUR MEALS UP THERE.

We had our fair share of different kind of food when we were at Cameron Highlands. We had steamboat, a bit of Indian food, a spread of Chinese and Hakka food (if not mistaken!) and of course we have the authentic chinese meal.

We found this place years ago with another group of friends and had a good impression of it since. This time, we decided to have our final lunch on the hill there and to do a review on it.

Let's see what we both think of it few years later.

From plates to sauces to utensils, all are self-service based.

Since there were 4 of us, we decided to order their pre-set that already has a few fixed dishes served with rice. We ordered the SET B (6 dishes) - RM78 excluding drinks. We ordered warm water (RM1 each) because it was quite chilly that noon.

They also serve steamboat at per person rate but since we already had steamboat for dinner the night before, we decided to have rice.

Cameron Omelette

He says: Awesome when it is served instantly.

She says: Like any normal omelette. There is obviously no "Cameron" taste to it whatsoever as per the name. Heh.

Veggie Ball with Water Cress Soup

He says: OHHHHMMM.. Hot soup and cold weather is one of the best combination right?

She says: Water cress soup on a cold noon? Need to say more? Enough salt and enough taste to it. Good stuff.

Deep Fried Handmade Stuffed Taufu

He says: Quite good although it doesn't look like one. =)

She says: Errr.. Like any fried yong tau foo. Something like that.

Fried Water Cress with Garlic

He says: Favourite dish here! Syncs with the restaurant name.

She says: This one also always get stuck between the braces but I love this dish to the max. The way they use just garlic to stir fry them keeps it very fresh and warm. Love this one.

"Cha Cha Sos" Chicken

He says: Not a bad dish.

She says: The sauce is super nice. The pieces of chicken was quite small and the meat is like so limited. I think they should improve on the portion.

Stewed Fresh Mushroom with Vermicelli

He says: Mushrooms! Love it.. the sauce is pretty nice too.. but could be saltier.

She says: Not my kind of dish. Maybe because I wear braces so it irritates me whenever the mushrooms get stuck between the metals. So yeah. If you like mushroom you will this one. I'm not really into mushroom so the taste was not nice for me.

BOH Heritage Tea Centre & Factory at Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands

Hello earthlings! More goodness for youuuu!

So, a while back (last year!) we went on our very first outdoor camping trip and we would like to share with you on some of the things that we have eaten while we were there, enjoying every bit of the coldness!

It's a MUST for you to have at least one time of scones-moment up there on that hill.

We are both not big fans of scones (due to some bad experiences) but we have every reason to try it out there!

It was over the weekend when we were there so everywhere was packed with vehicles. As some of you might already know, the BOH Tea Centre at Sungai Palas is the most famous tea plantation that everyone for sure wants to go visit.

Since it was so packed and the jam was almost standstill, we decided to go to the one at Tanah Rata. They are not very far from each other when there is no jam. With jam, EVERYTHING IS FAR. Haha.

Anyways, here's some of the things that we ordered in that sweater weather.

He says: Very very tasty strawberry cheesecake. Not too cheesy, not too sweet. Just nice.

She says: Very smooth and I love how the jam on top is not too sweet so it makes the overall cake very pleasant to eat. Nice!

Sardin Puff - RM5.10

He says: A little bit dry for me.

She says: Had this one while it was hot. Nice but not the best I've eaten.

Plain Scone with Homemade Jam and Cream - RM8

He says: Okay la.. normal ni..

She says: I love this scone! It's so soft and warm inside. Very expensive for one scone lah actually.

Apple Pie - RM7

He says: Not bad.. could go back for this!
She says: It's okaylah.

Garden Tea: Palas Supreme (Orange Pekoe) - RM4.50 per person

He says: Love the smell of the tea. Just nice.

She says: Picked from their garden how nice right? Taste even better! Love this one. We refilled the water twice! We sat there, enjoyed the tea until they were closing down. Best.

Before we say anything, we would like to say HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY 2015 to all of you out there! Yes, we do realized it's already the third day into this amazing year. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER, RIGHT? :D

We hope you had a great countdown to 2015 and of course we hope that your 2015 is going to be an exciting one!

On New Year's Eve, we decided to go for 2014's last lunch with her family to celebrate what a great year 2014 has been. God is always good!

We didn't want to have the usual chinese meal. Instead we were looking for those places that serves set lunch. It's always nice to have a family or friend gathering with set lunch/set dinner kind of style.

He found out about this place and we decided to try it out. Set lunch FTW!

Can we just say that this place is TOO similar to a restaurant called Harvest In? IT'S TOO SIMILAR. Harvest In serves ala carte but when you add extra RM, you will get a set lunch.

So, we thought,"Okay, this is their competitor!"

Even more excited to do a review on them. Heh.

Homemade mushroom soup, garlic bread and a glass of lemon tea/peach tea and dessert - add on RM6 on any main course to enjoy the set lunch promo.

He says: Pretty good. The garlic bread goes really well with creamy mushroom soup. And the peach tea? Tastes like peach tea.

She says: Soup is pretty decent. Garlic bread is nice. How can garlic bread go wrong? Oh wait.. if it's too hard then can. But this one nice and quite soft. The tea is of course normal. I think it's quite okay to add RM6 to make it a set lunch.

Chocolate Peppermint and Chocolate.

He says: Normal..

She says: Never liked peppermint. Normal lah.

Calamari Rings - RM9.50

Deep fried squid rings served with Thai chili sauce.

He says: Calamari rings can hardly go wrong right?

She says: Crunchy outside and soft inside and not oily! Love this one. This one is ala carte, not part of the set lunch price.

Feta Cheese Bruschetta - RM8.50

Freshly toasted garlic bread, with chopped Feta cheese, honey and herbs.

He says: The bread is soft yet crunchy on its sides. Feta cheese made it even better!

She says: The garlic on the bread is amazing. I think it's brilliant to add Feta cheese on top because it gives the salty flavor to it, but they should add more! This one also ala carte, not part of set lunch.

Basil Pesto with Chicken Breast - RM15.90

Grilled chicken breast served with basil pesto, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.

He says: Pretty nice mint/herb sauce to complement with the golden piece of chicken. The taste of the chicken is a little bit dry though.

She says: I normally love chicken breast but this one was a bit too tough to my liking. The basil pesto however was sooooo good. And excuse me Adrian Koay, *points to his comment* IT'S NOT MINT SAUCE! *rolls eyes* HAHAHA. It was a very good basil pesto with a hint of garlic taste to it that did not overpower the basil. One of the best pesto I've tried. Love it.

Cheesy Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu - RM15.90 (Chef's Pick)

Deep fried boneless chicken stuffed with chicken ham and cheese, served with homemade brown sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.

He says: The cheese oozes out like lava as I slice the stuffed chicken. Like it but the sauce could be better if more flavorful.

She says: It's a very big piece of stuffed chicken. I didn't really like this pick. Well, if this is a Chef's Pick, then I think they should modify it or add something to give it more oomphh. I had three bites and I didn't want more after that.

Grilled Teriyaki Salmon Fish - RM20.90 (Chef's Pick)

Fresh salmon fish lightly grilled, served with Teriyaki sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.

He says: A no no for me to order that again.

She says: The teriyaki sauce is very starchy so it's kinda not very nice to eat. Salmon is just bleh.

Grilled Salmon with Creamy Cumin Sauce - RM20.90 (Chef's Pick)

Grilled fresh salmon fish, served with creamy cumin sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.

He says: The cumin is a lot better than the teriyaki sauce but still, a lot can be improved.

She says: Salmon fish was neh. It's not crunchy outside on the skin so it's like quite sad lah. The cumin sauce, I don't think goes well with this fish but the sauce itself quite creamy and yummy. Very indian-ish flavor.

Coriander Fish - RM16.90

Baked fish fillet with coriander herbs, served with butter rice and daily fresh vegetables.

He says: Like this one. Somehow the fish tastes fresh and the coriander topping is awesome. Butter rice is little bit sticky though and could be better.

She says: The fillet is quite small. The best part (the skin) is glued to the foil so that's a waste. End up I had quite small portion of the entire fillet. The butter rice is amazing! Love the rice. The coriander herbs on top also very yummy.

Black Pepper Lamb Chop - RM20.90 (Chef's Pick)

Grilled lamb chop marinated with herbs, served with black pepper sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.

He says: Grilled nicely. The black pepper sauce is not bad.

She says: The sauce quite starchy. The lamb very big piece and grilled nicely. Not too hard.

Peppermint Lamb Chop - RM20.90

Grilled lamb chop marinated with herbs, served with peppermint sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.

He says: Mint sauce tak cukup oohm. But boleh tahan la.

She says: The mint sauce is super nice. If it's a little thicker then I think it would have been one of the star dish.

Weekdays morning we usually try to catch as much sleep as we can even if that means we could steal 5 minutes from the snoozing time. With that being said, of course it means that we usually won't have breakfast together when we are working.

Actually we do but very very seldom. He starts work at 8:30am and she at 9am, so it's ery difficult to meet up for breakfast before we begin our day.

One morning though, we went to breakfast at Transfer Road. Deen Nasi Kandar!

She was a bit hesitant because who eats so much rice in the morning right?

But it was highly recommended by a good friend so we decided to give it a shot.

Was it worth waking up early for this? You shall read on and find out! :)

By the way, we had to queue so we went there extra early. Penang people and food.

Very tempting indeed.

He says: Enak rasanya! The nasi kandar here is really good. The sotong, the beef, the curry, the egg, the vege. All tastes authentic! I think I would queue here again for this before work next time. Hehe.

She says: "Early morning ask me to line up, it better be good!" That was what I told him and a friend of ours, Judson. And... it turned out SUPER GOOD! No wonder so many people sacrifice their sleep just to get their hands on this yummy typical Malaysian breakfast. I think only Malaysians eat so heavy for breakfast. Crazy hah? It's really good. I would sacrifice my sleep for this again. Maybe not that often lah! :) MUST TRY GUYS!

"Everytime we drive pass this road, you sure look at this place. You want to try the food there isit?"

What he said every single time we drive down Macalister Road. Haha.

The truth is, she grew up coming to this place for a family meal. Since she was a very young girl. He has never tried out this place before so he decided to bring her whole family there one nice sunny noon and gave them another walk down memory lane.

This place is run by Catholics where there are rooms upstairs for rent, prolly for those who would like to spend few days in Penang in a budgeted way. Not so sure about that though..

Anyways, no need to say also you will know that she was excited to have lunch that day. She kept checking her watch to make sure we go there earlier than planned. Crazy girl.

Simple place to dine for lunch or dinner.

Signature dish: Belacan Fried Chicken.

He says: Belachan chicken can hardly go wrong! Thumbs up! Hot and crispy!

She says: First bite so juicy and yummy. This one ten-fingers-licking-good. We ordered round two BTW. I can just order this next time. IT'S SERIOUSLY SO YUMMY!

Stir-fry Kailan.

He says: Could be better if there is more taste to it. Maybe a bit more salt?

She says: A normal dish with maybe more taste needed.

Black Bean Soup.

He says: Ermmmm.. Nothing special but pretty decent soup!

She says: Like having a hot water soup with some beans in it? Nehhhh.

He says: Taste okay but the curry is a bit diluted.

She says: Fish fillet is fresh. It looks better than it tasted. To be honest, it was prolly one of the worse I've ever tasted. I remembered it being one of the best I've tasted last time. Maybe change of chefs..
