Please pass this on to everybody that you know that has a motor home, touring bus, school bus, VW Hippy bus, plane, dog transport, climate controlled horse transport, van/mommy mobile, SUV, station wagon, covered wagon, truckers, railway etc. etc. etc. Please forward this email on to every qualified animal rescue you know or can find and to every individual that you know has a sincere interest in rescuing mill dogs and every other dog who suffers due to neglect, stupidity or just plain meanness.

By now many of you have received an email or two about the 826 puppy mill dogs going up for auction on the 29^th and 30^th of this month in Mexico, Missouri. (Information regarding the auction is listed below) This email is to let you know that we will be attending and we need all of the help that we can get. For those of you that have never been to a kennel auction, the inn’s and outs of pulling dogs are staggering. It isn’t as simple as bidding on a dog, picking the dog up and taking it home to hug and hold and make it feel good. Saving puppy mill dogs is the most difficult job/work that we have ever had the pleasure to do”. In June we were blessed to be able to take 78 dogs out of the puppy mill system and again in September another 60+ were pulled out of the breeder system. Most of us going to this auction have to leave our families and drive several hours and spend the night in a local hotel room just like anybody else. We will load our vehicles up with as many crates that can fit into them and go without hesitation because saving dogs lives from abuse is what we do. THIS AUCTION IS HUGE!!! WE NEED EVERYBODY’S HELP! Kansas City , Springfield and St. Louis airports are all within 2 hours drive. For those that have no idea what to do; Take a couple of vacation days off of work; rent a van or drive your vehicle, go to some flea markets and pick up as many crates as you can fit into those vehicles and take the plunge. You will not regret the experience and saving these neglected dogs really is what it is all about.

ü Donations to out-bid the puppy mill breeders there to buy more stock to abuse is imperative. Any donation will be greatly appreciated as many of these dogs will go for 1 to 5 dollars·

ü We need transport people there with vehicles and crates ready to transport the dogs to qualified rescues as they are run through the auction. Groups as little as one or even five at a time are welcome and even larger group transports would be ideal. Waiting till the auction is over before loading those little babies up is unnecessary as they can be taken out at any point once the bidding is over for that dog. If you don't have the stomach to see the dogs, but do have space in your rescue we can bid for you, but somebody must be there to pick up the dogs if at all possible.

We will be available to help you through every step of the process and if you cannot attend please help out with donations through Pay Pal by clicking here and these funds will be used for bidding, transport, kenneling of as many of the dogs as possible prior to going to rescue, food and vetting. NOTE: Please send donations by the 24^th of October.

It is heartbreaking when the auction is over knowing so many dogs will be going to another crappy puppy mill or be killed because we run out of space or a rescue to transport them.

******From an earlier email: Here is the story behind the Mexico, Missouri kennel auction******

The infamous Herman and Bonnie Schindler, formerly owners of MO Puppy Expo in St Peters that was protested for over a year and investigated by Fox 2 St Louis reporter Chris Hayes which led to their lease being terminated, will no longer be the largest puppy mill in MO as they are selling out (along with their daughter, Lori Conrad) at auctions the end of October (details below). While we are thankful the Schindler's mill is closing, the fate of their dogs is up to us. We need rescue groups everywhere to get involved to save these dogs from going to another breeder/mill and continuing their lives of hell. PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH ANY RESCUE PEOPLE/GROUPS YOU KNOW, BREED SPECIFIC OR OTHERWISE. These dogs (and all the other mill dogs) deserve to know what love is and are the reason we are fighting to get Prop B passed. Once Prop B passes more millers who are unwilling or unable to treat dogs humanely will also go out of business and many more dogs will need to find rescue. Please help these dogs find a life and not another sentence as a puppy machine.

Hoagie Dip - Tailgate Recipe

Ingredients

* 1 medium onion
* 2 pickled pepperoncini peppers
* 1/2 head iceberg lettuce
* 1 large tomato, halved and seeded
* 1/4 pound deli-sliced genoa salami
* 1/4 pound deli-sliced ham
* 1/4 pound deli-sliced prosciutto
* 1/4 pound deli-sliced roast turkey
* 1/4 pound deli-sliced provolone cheese
* 1/2 cup mayonnaise
* 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
* 1 teaspoon dried oregano
* 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
* 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
* 1 10-to-12-inch round loaf Italian bread
* 8 hoagie rolls, cut into pieces, for dipping

Directions

Chop the onion, pepperoncini, lettuce and tomato into bite-size pieces. Dice the meats and cheese.

Combine the chopped vegetables, meats and cheese in a large bowl. Add the mayonnaise, olive oil, oregano, basil and red pepper flakes and stir until everything is all mixed up and tasty. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Carve out the center of the bread loaf to make a bowl (don't cut through the bottom) and cut the scraps into bite-size pieces. Serve the hoagie dip in the bread bowl, with the extra bread and hoagie rolls to scoop it up. Yummers!

Grilled Chicken Wings with Spicy Chipotle Hot Sauce and Blue Cheese-Yogurt Dipping Sauce-Tailgate Recipe

Ingredients

* 46 chicken wings
* Vegetable oil
* Salt and freshly ground pepper
* Chipotle Hot Sauce, recipe follows
* Blue Cheese-Yogurt Dip, recipe follows

Directions

Heat grill to high. Toss wings in a few tablespoons of oil and season with salt and pepper. Place on the grill in single layers and grill until golden brown on both sides and just cooked through, about 4 to 5 minutes per side.

Chipotle Hot Sauce:

* 1 1/2 cups red wine vinegar
* 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
* 2 to 3 tablespoons chipotle pepper puree (depending on how spicy you like it)
* 3 tablespoons honey
* 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
* Salt and freshly ground pepper
* 1 stick unsalted butter, cut into pieces
* 2 tablespoons ancho chile powder

Whisk together the vinegar, Dijon mustard, chipotle puree, honey, and oil in a medium bowl. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

Melt butter in a large skillet or a large pot on the grates of the grill. Add the hot sauce mixture and bring to a boil. Whisk in the ancho chile powder and season with salt, to taste. Add the wings and cook, stirring, for 2 to 3 minutes. Serve with Blue Cheese-Yogurt Dip,

Blue Cheese-Yogurt Dip:

* 1 pint thick Greek yogurt
* 3/4 cup crumbled domestic blue cheese
* 2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion
* 3 tablespoons finely sliced scallions
* Salt and freshly ground pepper

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving

5-Bean Chili Mexican Style - Tailgate Recipe

Ingredients

* 1 pound ground chuck
* 1 cup diced yellow onion
* 1 cup diced green bell pepper
* 3 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder, preferably Mexican style
* 2 teaspoons salt
* 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
* 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1/8 teaspoon ground coriander
* 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 2 bay leaves
* 1 (28-ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes, broken up with your hands
* 3 cups beef stock or canned, low-sodium beef broth
* 1 1/2 cups great northern beans
* 1 1/2 cups cooked and drained pinto beans
* 1 1/2 cups cooked and drained kidney beans
* 1 1/2 cups cooked and drained black beans
* 1 1/2 cups cooked and drained navy beans
* 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro leaves
* Sour cream, grated Cheddar and chopped green onions, for garnishing, optional

Directions

In a cast iron pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, cook the meat until well browned, stirring occasionally, 4 to 6 minutes. Add the onions, bell pepper, garlic, chili powder, salt, cumin, black pepper, cayenne pepper, coriander, and cinnamon, and cook until vegetables are soft, 4 to 6 minutes. Add the bay leaves, tomatoes, and stock; bring the mixture to a simmer, partially cover, and cook for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add all of the beans, stir to combine, and continue to cook another 20 to 30 minutes, or until the flavors have come together and the chili has a nice, thick consistency. Add the cilantro, taste and adjust the seasoning, if necessary.

Serve hot, garnished with sour cream, grated cheese, and chopped green onions, if desired.

Chicken and White Bean Chili With Veggies - Tailgaters Recipe

Tis the season for tailgating and some great recipes shared. Even if your not a tailgater and you host your own party with your friends in your own man caves these recipes will warm you from the inside out and you'll be named the greatest host of the season.

Don't let all these ingredients frighten you as these are really simple to put together and won't take much time at all. The raves on these recipes were extremely high from professional tailgaters and chefs. So Enjoy!

Ingredients

* 3 pounds chicken thighs, skin and bones removed, cut into 3/4-inch chunks
* Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
* Grey salt
* 4 teaspoons fennel seeds
* 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
* 1 cup masa harina or all purpose flour
* 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus additional as needed to cook the chicken and for garnish
* 4 red onions, minced
* 6 cloves garlic, minced
* 2 green jalapeno peppers (with seeds), diced
* 2 red jalapeno peppers (with seeds), diced
* 1/4 cup tomato paste
* 6 tablespoons chili powder
* 1 tablespoon minced fresh thyme leaves
* 2 cups white wine
* 4 cups chicken stock
* 1 (12-ounce) can diced tomato in juices
* 2 (15-ounce) cans white beans, rinsed and drained or 4 cups cooked white beans
* 3 zucchini, cut into 3/4-inch pieces
* 1 poblano pepper, diced
* 1 orange or red bell pepper, diced
* 1 bunch scallions, sliced
* 1/2 cup torn basil leaves
* Grated Parmesan, for garnish

Directions

Place the chicken in a large bowl. Season liberally with pepper and grey salt. Toss with fennel seed and smoked paprika. Sprinkle the masa harina or flour over the chicken and toss to coat.

Heat a cast iron pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add 1/4 cup olive oil, when it begins to smoke, add the chicken, leaving the excess flour or masa harina in the bowl. Spreading the chicken evenly so it covers the bottom of the pot in 1 layer. (You may have to cook the chicken in batches to do this, adding more olive oil as necessary.)

Leave the chicken alone, without turning it, so the meat will brown and caramelize, about 5 minutes per side. The chicken has a lot of moisture in it, so a good amount of steam will come from the pan before it is caramelized. As it browns, turn each piece with tongs. Once all sides are caramelized, remove the meat from the pan with a slotted spoon, leaving juices in the pot.

Over medium heat, add another 1/4 cup of olive oil to pan along with the onions and garlic, cook until onions soften and caramelize, about 5 minutes. Add the jalapenos, cook until softened, about 2 minutes. Add the tomato paste, chili powder and thyme, stir to combine. Add wine, bring to a simmer, then add the chicken stock, diced tomatoes and cooked chicken. Stir to incorporate everything, season with salt. Simmer until chicken is wonderfully tender, about 45 minutes.

Add the white beans, zucchini, poblano, red pepper and scallions. Bring to a simmer and cook until vegetables are tender, about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in basil. Serve immediately or cool and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To serve, sprinkle with grated Parmesan and drizzle with olive oil.

Due to new federal EPA regulations we will no longer be able to carry these kits made up. We apologize to all our customers for this inconvenience. Although we are no longer able to sell the made up kits, we will be able to carry the kit accessories for you to make up your own for your own personal use with your pets. Everything you need including dosage chart and we will still be here to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Our main goal is to help pet owners maintain affordable health care solutions during these hard economic times.

Almond Puff Pastry

This recipe has been around for a while but some of you younger gals might not be familiar with it. At first glance the directions look difficult, but are not at all. It just involves 3 steps. The first layer is almost like a pie crust, the second is like cream puffs and the rest is just jam you add. I have made this both with apricot and strawberry jam and they are equally as good but being a chocoholic I have a tendency to use melted chocolate instead of jams and place light layer of melted chocolate between the first and second layer and dribble chocolate lightly on the top after it cools. Similar to the chocolate almond croissants Dunkin use to make. YUmmmmmy!

Almond Puff Pastry

Ingredients:

First layer:

* 1/2 cup butter, cut into pats or 1/2 inch cubes
* 1 cup flour
* 1/4 cup water

Second layer:

* 1 cup water
* 1/2 stick butter
* 1 cup flour
* 3 large eggs, room temperature
* 1 tsp. almond extract

Third layer:

* 2/3 cup jam or preserves
* 1/2 to 2/3 cup slivered or sliced almonds

Icing:

* 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
* 1 tsp. vanilla
* 4 tsp. milk or water

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a cookie sheet or line with parchment paper.

Toast Almonds at 350 degree F oven for about 5 minutes or until golden brown.

First layer: In a medium sized bowl, combine the butter, flour, and salt (if using unsalted butter). Work the butter into the flour as you would for pie crust. Add the 1/4 cup water. The dough will form into a ball. Divide in half. Shape the piece into a 11 by 3 inch rectangle on the baking sheet, leaving plenty of room between each one. (I did mine on two separate sheets). Set aside

Second layer: In medium sized saucepan, bring water and butter to boil. Stir until butter melts and add flour (and salt if using unsalted butter) all at once. Stir until the mixture thickens and begins to steam and leaves sides of pan. Remove from heat and beat at med speed with mixture for about a minute or beat by hand vigorously for the same amount of time. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, beat until the dough loses it's shiny look and each egg is totally absorbed. Mix in the almond extract. With a spatula or your wet fingers) spread the batter over the strips, dividing it evenly for each puff.

Bake pastry for 50 to 60 minutes, or until it's a deep golden brown.. Remove from oven. Transfer to cooling rack. Spread jam over the top and string some icing over. Then add almonds.

Squash Casserole

Well as you probably can guess by this pic I am definitely a squash lover. In fact, I would prefer to eat squash rather than eat a steak.....As a child, the first things gone on my plate would be the veggies, then the meat or poultry would sit there being tossed from side to side in my plate while I'd contemplate whether or not I would attempt to eat it....Most other children would eat their meats then toss their veggies side to side. I was different and that's okay! It takes all kinds to make the world go round.... ;)

I love squash all year round, but most would think about it more when the Fall season arrives, especially during the Thanksgiving holiday. Having come from the New England area, maybe it was just a New England thing? Just seems like I saw more then, than any other time of the year.

With my typical New Englander sense of thinking, children are heading back to school so our Fall Harvest will be right around the corner sporting all the colors and species of pumpkins and squash at the local produce stands and orchards. All this plus, Mother Nature in all her glory and splendor makes her scenic spectacular color debut with her crimsons, gold, burgundy and whatever other colors she chooses to throw into the fold. What a truly fabulous present for us to enjoy!

So with this being said I now hope your in the mood to enjoy a great Fall Squash Casserole! For you meat lovers, try adding some chicken or turkey to this recipe. You can even add crumbled bacon to make it even more palette pleasing.

SQUASH CASSEROLE

Ingredients:

3 lbs. yellow squash, sliced
1 lb. zucchini, sliced
3 medium onions, sliced
4 large carrots, grated
4-8 oz. pimentos (jar)
1 or 2 cans sliced water chestnuts
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 cups crushed reduced fat Ritz or Townhouse crackers
6-8 oz box of seasoned stuffing
Pam spray
1/4 cup melted margarine
1 1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. salt
1-2 cups grated sharp cheddar or cheddar/jack cheese

Directions:

Preheat over to 350 degrees F.

Slice the squash, zucchini, and onions and place in a large pot with enough water to fill the post halfway. Add one teaspoon salt. Bring to boil for about 5 minutes. You can cook them more or less depending upon desired consistency. I like mine a bit firmer since they will finish cooking in the oven later. Drain all liquids. (I keep mine and use it for a vegetable soup base)

Spray 9 by 13 inch baking dish with Pam. Line pan with about one inch of stuffing mix. Melt margarine and drizzle over stuffing mix. I like to take about a full handful of the stuffing and add it directly to the squash mix for added texture. I also omit the margarine to cut down on calories and fat.

In a mixing bowl add the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, mayonnaise, pimentos, carrots, handful of stuffing mix, black pepper, and water chestnuts. Mix together. Add squash, zucchini and onions, blend gently.

Pour entire mixture over stuffing in the pan. Spread evenly, Top with shredded cheese and remaining crushed crackers.

Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

You can make this healthier by omitting the margarine, using reduced fat crackers, sour cream, and mayonnaise, and using fat free/sodium reduced cream of chicken soup.

Pumpkin Angel Food Dessert with Sugared Pecans

This is such a simple recipe to make but has a unique great taste. I don't know the exact calorie count but think it would be lower in calories than most desserts

Ingredients:

Bottom layer

* 1 (16 oz) angel food cake mix (be sure to use the 1 step mix)
* 1 (30 oz.) can Libby's Easy Pumpkin Pie mix (you can probably use other brands but I am not familiar with them.)
* 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
* Fresh ground nutmeg or use the dried (1/2 tsp or to taste)

Top layer

* 1 (12 oz) container whipped topping, thawed
* 1 cup canned pumpkin (plain pumpkin)
* 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
* 1 (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding (can use sugar free for lower calories)
* 1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

To make bottom layer, mix dry angel food cake mix, pumpkin pie mix, and pumpkin pie seasoning together. You can do this by hand or for a minute with electric mixer. Spread in a 9X13 inch baking dish and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in a 350 degree F oven and cool completely.

To make topping, gently fold the whipped topping,plain pumpkin, and dry pudding mix together.

Place pecans that have been sprinkled with a bit of sugar in pan and bake in prepared oven just till starting to turn brown. Do not over brown. Sprinkle over the whipped topping mixture.

Greek Salad Wrap

Yummy blend of Greek flavors in a wrap sammie.

Ingredients:

* 1/4 cup mayonnaise
* 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
* 2 tsp. minced garlic
* 4 (10 inch) flour tortillas
* 2 cups romaine lettuce hearts, chopped
* 1 cup cucumber, diced
* 1 large tomato, diced
* 6 oz feta cheese, crumbled
* 1/4 cup pitted kalamata olives, quartered
* 1/2 tsp. red wine vinegar
* 1 1/2 tsp. extra virgin olive oil

Directions:

Mix the mayonnaise, minced garlic, and lemon juice in a small bowl. Spread tortillas with lemon and garlic mayonnaise.

Toss lettuce, cucumber, tomato, feta, olives, vinegar, and oil in a medium bowl.

Spoon lettuce mixture onto tortillas, wrap, and serve

Morning Glory Breakfast Muffins

These muffins have so many good things in them, it's like a smorgasbord of delightful eating. Filled with energy-making good things, they are a delicious breakfast food or midday snack.

Ingredients:

* 2 cups flour
* 1 Tbsp. baking powder
* 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
* 1/4 heaping tsp. cloves
* 1/4 heaping tsp. ginger
* 1/4 heaping tsp. nutmeg
* 1/4 heaping tsp. mace
* 1/4 heaping tsp. salt
* 3/4 cup granulated sugar
* 1 cup dark brown sugar
* 3 eggs beaten
* 1 cup oil
* 1 Tbsp. vanilla
* 1 cup coconut
* 2 cups raw carrots, shredded
* 1/2 cup raisins
* 1 apple, chopped
* 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and all spices together. Mix in sugars and set aside in a large mixing bowl. Beat eggs, add oil and vanilla and mix well. Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until all the flour is moistened. Add apple, coconut, raisins, pecans, and shredded carrots. Stir to mix well. Batter will be very thick.

Grease muffin tins with solid shortening like Crisco. Fill muffin tins 2/3 full.

This recipe makes 18-24 regular sized muffins or 24-36 small ones depending on size. Bake in a 375 degree F oven for about 25-30 minutes for the regular sized muffins, and 18-22 minutes for the small ones. Much depends on your own oven and the sizes of your muffin tins. Test for doneness.

The risks to your pets...and you

Beyond causing serious discomfort, fleas and ticks can carry diseases dangerous to both you and your pets. Fleas can carry tapeworm larvae, which your pet can ingest. In cats, in particular, fleas can carry an organism called Bartonella henselae, which is one of the causes of cat scratch disease in humans.

Ticks can transmit such serious diseases as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever for both you and your pets.

Many pets are also allergic to flea bites. A single flea bite can cause an intense allergic reaction in both humans and pets. When the skin is irritated or inflamed it can also become infected with bacteria or others pathogens making the problem worse. Severe infestations will cause anemia, lowering your pets immune system and making them vulnerable to various illnesses.

Ticks can be a particular problem when present in large numbers or when they attach themselves to sensitive areas like inside the ears or near an eye.

Thankfully we have the availability of many tools in our arsenal to keep us all safe from fleas and ticks. They are applied topically or in pill form on a monthly basis. Many vets recommend year round treatment for best results. A single female flea can lay as many as 30 eggs a day. The eggs then fall and land on furniture and carpets and can lay dormant for up to 8 months before hatching, even during the winter months. Treatments are normally based on the area in which you live, daily routines and any pre-existing medical conditions.

FACTS FLEAS and TICKS on CATS verses DOGS

Ticks are more often found on dogs than cats.
Dogs are more prone to flea allergies.
Owners often miss signs of fleas in cats because they mistake the cats discomfort for normal grooming behavior.
Fleas typically bug dogs on the rump, thighs and stomach. Cats are often more affected on the face, neck and back.

Let's face it, fleas and ticks are virtually everywhere! Although certain parts of the country and at specific times during the year, no cat or dog is completely safe
from them.

Today there is no reason for any pet or owner to be bothered by these nasty biting little pests.

Along with keeping up with flea meds, bombing and spraying the house and spraying or spreading insect granules to your yard, vacuum carpets, floors and furniture regularly always throwing out the vacuum bags after any signs, as fleas can survive in the bag for weeks and months. Block off damp and shady areas around your home such as; under your deck and outside stairway as fleas love these areas. Wash your pets bedding, toys and towels once a week and regularly groom your pet.
