MY PICKS: Meadham Kirchoff for Topshop

Thursday is a VERY exciting day for all Meadham Kirchhoff fans (me being a HUGE one), as their latest collection for high street giant Topshop is ready to hit the rails.

Today Vogue.co.uk released some new images of the collection and well, I am rather impressed. Along with their signature sweet and completely delightful pastel concoctions, they've also brought along some extremely wearable pieces that I'm sure will sell out in minutes (let's just hope I'm one of the lucky few to get my hands on something!)

So, in honour of the amazing collection, I thought I'd pick out my favourites and bring them to you, with the help of the Line Camera app.

Sadly, due to my student loan (or lack of it) I may only be able to pick up one piece of the collection -if I'm lucky - and choosing that item looks set to be a hard decision. ~~But if anyone wants to buy anything for me that would be great...~~

This t-shirt is so cute, it reminds me of My Little Pony and would be the perfect way to buy into the collection with an equal amount of cute and wearability.

The two above t-shirts are just cool. I need.

And lastly, I think this could be my favourite. There is absolutely nothing I don't like about it.

My Week in Instagram Photos

This week has been a fun one! Of course, it was Halloween, so two nights out were needed.. Obviously.. Last Saturday I finally got to see Arctic Monkeys live, after years of dying to see them! And they certainly did not disappoint. And this morning, I headed down to the beach at Whitstable with my housemates to film a part of the fashion film based on Ryan Lo's latest collection (soooo cute) we are creating for our current university project.

So, what glamorous or exciting activity do I have planned for tonight? Nothing. I will be sitting at home, watching X Factor (yawn) and getting on with some coursework, whilst all of my pals back at home will be heading out for my friend's birthday (the sorrow of going to uni 200 miles away from where you're from).

And there you have it! Whatever you're doing this weekend, hope you have fun!

INSPIRATION: The Fresh Princess of Bel Air

This week I watched the Fresh Prince of Bel Air for the first time in what seems like forrrrrever. I'd forgotten just how funny it was, my love for Carlton (how can you not adore him and his complete cluelessness?!) and most of all, just how brilliantly Will's younger cousin Ashley Banks dressed!

After suffering from h u g e outfit envy, I headed straight online to see what other ensembles Miss Banks pulled off over the 6 seasons the show was on air. It was amazing to remember just how much Ashley progressed from a sweet girl to a young woman with a very stylish wardrobe to rival her fashionista sister, Hilary.

And so here I offer you the best of Ashley Banks.. Just a selection of some of my favourite looks of hers that I found from trawling through images and old episodes.

Ok, so I know that this last photo is of Ashley in her nightdress. But this was just a timeless moment from the Fresh Prince that I couldn't not include in this post! (Please do a reunion show, guys!)

So the moral of this post - the next time I can't decide to wear, I'm going to think "What would Ashley do?".

V&A Fashion Festival

I spent yesterday up in London visiting the Victoria & Albert Museum for their Fashion Festival, a free event for 16-24 year olds where industry experts conduct talks and workshops on different aspects of the fashion industry. Yesterday's event had everything from pattern cutting and illustration demonstrations to talks from designers and the BFC.

It was soooo much busier than last year's event, which sadly meant I only got to see two talks, however they were the ones I wanted to catch most - Marketing & Journalism from ASOS, and a conversation with Henry Holland.

It was so interesting to hear about how Henry got started up as a fashion designer - he didn't take a conventional route - and it goes to show how with creativity and determination you can achieve so much. He said his next goal is to open up his own store in London, and I can tell you that when he does, I will definitely be a customer! I loved his brand before, but now hearing so much about it, I appreciate it so much more.

I must admit, this outfit didn't photograph as well as I hoped and so it doesn't look that great - even with the beautiful backdrop that is Kensington Gardens. I promise (I think) it looked much better in person!

And also hello to the new love of my life, my lovely, warm (but quite pricey) fur lined coat. I may have spent a month's worth of food money on it, but I think it will be worth it.

I would 100% recommend a trip to the next Fashion Festival (hopefully there will be another!) however get there early to queue for your favourite talks or you could miss out!

Home Sweet (Uni) Home

Although I've officially had the keys since July, just over a week ago I moved into my new house at university! It's my first time living in a house at uni, as last year I was in student halls, and so I've been more than excited to be able to decorate my room and make it all preeeettttttty.

And living with some of my best friends is so fun, it's like a permanent sleepover (what more could a girl want)!

Anyway, so I've been quite absent from my blog for a while (I feel like I write this too much - I will step it up from now on) and I thought what better way to make a comeback than to show you all off my newly finished bedroom!

It's slightly more girly than I would like, but I really like it and now it genuinely feels like home.

I started putting together this moodboard a while ago, and still have yet to finish (silly me)! Going to make this a priority for the next few weeks..

I got this poster free when I attended the Chanel: Little Black Jacket exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London.. It's hard to believe such a classic piece can be worn in so many different ways and still look so good!

Sadly, I had to leave my vast magazine collection at home as the car would not be able to hold the weight of all of them (even without my other stuff!), so I've brought along my most recent buys, which will have to do for now..

Haven't done an outfit post in a while, so I thought I'd just do a quick one today.

As you can see, I'm not wearing anything too special, just had a casual day shopping with my mum! But it's about time I got back into the swing of things so here we go.

Hopefully I'll have another post coming this weekend, as I am celebrating my 20th birthday on Saturday night, so I should have some photos to share come Sunday/the start of next week.

The September Issue(s)

This morning, my favourite delivery of the month arrived.. My Elle & Vogue subscriptions! The September issues of any magazine are always interesting for me to read because it marks the start of a new season, and so we get to see a lot more of the trends we first saw back in February. It's one of my favourites because it marks the end of summer (which means winter is approaching, and the return of boots and thick coats, yay!) and it means I can start to really plan my Autumn/Winter wardrobe.

As I've been doing literally nothing but working this week, I haven't had time for an outfit post or anything that requires a lot of time or planning. SO I thought I'd just play the critic and talk about some of the September issue covers from various magazines (mostly of the Vogue family..).

First up, we have British Vogue. I think it's actually really refreshing that they've used a model on the cover who isn't widely known to the everyday reader, and it's taken the magazine back to actually using models for the covers instead of whoever is the most relevant celebrity of the moment. This can only be a good thing.

One fault I do have with it, however, is just how basic it is. I think (as sad as it is) with the lack of star power on the cover, it's not the most attention grabbing cover. I mean, it's classic, and very Vogue, but as one of the most influential fashion magazines in the world, they could step it up just a bit.

That being said, the content of the magazine, I really enjoyed. There is a really great shoot featuring Cara Delevingne (of course, is there a magazine she isn't in?!) styled by Francesca Burns and shot by Walter Pfeiffer. It was SUCH a delight to look at, so cute and girly but with a colourful pop edge. And a classically beautiful editorial showing the classically beautiful Miranda Kerr in some snuggly winter pieces.

Although not strictly a September Issue - being a bi-annual magazine, the latest issue on LOVE did hit new stands this week and it's such a good cover that I thought it deserved a mention!

This magazine always knows how to catch your eye, and this issue (the 5th anniversary special) definitely did that. Decking out the 5 cover stars (including Georgia May Jagger & Rosie Huntington Whiteley) in custom-made Minnie Mouse ears by some of the biggest and best designers of the moment, "the Sweetie Issue" was aptly named.

And as a complete plus, there was a cover shoot featuring Minnie Mouse herself! A face nobody could fail to recognise, I don't think you could find a better cover star.

Next up we have ELLE UK, with cover star Katy Perry. I've found that ELLE tend to recycle their cover stars a lot (not always to my delight), so it was nice to see someone front this issue that they've not had grace the magazine before.

I really liked the styling of this particular cover, which showcases one of the A/W season's top trends - CHECKS. It's bold and sexy, without being too much, which is something that could be at risk of happening with a personality like Katy's.. I also liked the fact that it's not your typical OTT Katy Perry outfit, yet she still looks stunning.

I thought the way the text tied in with the colour scheme of the image, and overall creates a put together look that will interest any browsers at the magazine shelves.

Vogue Japan always has a quirky edge to it, and there was no exception with their September Issue. Featuring Cara again (this girl must be BUSY) it seemed to channel Vogue Japan's own take on Audrey Hepburn a la Breakfast at Tiffany's. And I love it! The bright pink fonts really take it up a notch and it's one of my favourite covers of the month for sure. I'm going to have to pick up a copy (although I don't speak a word of Japanese, at least the pictures will be pretty).

With more covers still to be released, I'm excited to see what the other magazines have in store!

Hopefully I'll be posting again sooner than later, but I am working all day everyday for the next few days. So until then, have a good weekend!

New Beginnings

I've been veryyyy busy over the last few weeks. I have recently started a new job (finally, hurray!) at Next, and went to Wireless Festival in London last weekend (but didn't take any photos sadly).

I went to the Friday and Saturday (so upsetting I couldn't afford the Sunday as well) and the headliners Justin Timberlake & Jay Z were AMAZING. They are definitely worth the time and money to see. Other favourites from the weekend were Calvin Harris, Tinie Tempah & Snoop Dogg. The only downside was not getting to see Frank Ocean (he and Snoop clashed) :(

But anyway, this week I managed to make a small trip into Topshop and get a few new pieces.

The first of the two was this gorgeous white dress. I loved it because it was so simple, yet the cut-out stomach gave a nice edge to it. I'm always looking for pretty dresses to wear when I go out or to parties so I thought it would be a strong investment.

I also picked up this pair of black boots for a bargain price of £35 at full price! In my opinion they don't photograph as well as they look in person, but I'm very happy with them and I know I'll have no shortage of chances to wear them! Black boots will never go out of style.

The Topshop sale still had loads of lovely pieces at reasonable prices, so I'm sure I'll be checking it again soon. And this week I'm going to get my hair coloured! I'm hoping to go a much lighter shade of brown, so no doubt you'll be seeing the results of that some time next week.

So after my post of all things red, I have already reverted back to my lovely and favoured dark palette. But as I'm sure you've noticed, I have still kept in touch with a hint of red here and there to brighten up the whole thing!

I wore this outfit for a night out on Saturday night! And managed to be ready with more than enough time to take a few photos to put on here, for once! (Forgive my garden, we are in the process of getting it redone, so it looks like a building site at the moment!)

Lately, I've actually been buying things!! Which is quite a risk, as I certainly don't have any money to be spending.

However, I've been clever. I had £40 worth of Topshop vouchers, which after almost a year, I've finally found the perfect item to spend them on. I also charmed my mum into splashing a bit of her cash (for which I am ashamed of, and I fully intend to pay her back when I'm a millionaire).

But I noticed a common theme with the items I've most recently purchased. And that is, the fact that they are all RED. Yes red. Such a departure from my usual safe-shade of black.

Anyway, these items all caught my eye thanks to their bold colour, and here they are!

I've wanted this Topshop playsuit with sheer panels since Christmas, but when I came to buy, it was out of stock. I was sooo tempted to get the black (bad plan, as most of my clothes are black, and I wanted a change), but as luck would have it, I came across the last one in red in my local store last week!

If you manage to find one, you can buy it for £40.

I bought this studded bag from Mango whilst on holiday in Lanzarote. They had an amazing sale on all of the bags, and if I hadn't stopped myself, I'd have snapped them all up!

This was an amazing 12€ and I loved the style and colour. I use it as both a shoulder bag and a clutch (with the strap tucked inside) and it's amazing for brightening up my (usually dull) outfits day or night.

This nail polish was another buy in Lanzarote. I love Bourjois nail polishes as they have a lovely selection of colours and the finish is always gorgeous, so when I saw this product, which has a silicone texture, I had to try it out. And I wasn't disappointed. I really liked the extra wide brush as it meant you only needed one or two strokes, and you got immediate coverage thanks to the texture of the polish. And the finish, although I wouldn't say it looked amazingly like silicone, it still made my nails look polished and pretty.

I would definitely recommend and you can buy it for £5.99 HERE.

Lanzarote Pt 2

As promised, here is the second part of my trip to Lanzarote! Whilst there we took a trip to Arrecife, the capital of the island, which was very lovely. The area was very picturesque, with a lovely harbour, interesting buildings, and the beach looked very inviting (such a shame I didn't have a towel or swimsuit with me). So I've put up some photos I took of the town, and two of my outfits from the week.

Reality is hitting now, and although we have great weather back in England (for once) I'd love to be able to jump in the pool and help myself to the all inclusive buffet!

Summer Sun! Lanzarote Pt 1

I spent the last week in Lanzarote, Canary Islands with my parents and younger sister. Aside from a few usual family quarrels and a bit of cloudy weather over the first few days (sad) I had a really lovely time. It was nice to be able to relax, and just sit and look at the lovely scenery of our amazing hotel.

So aside from making too much use of our All-Inclusive benefits (i.e. drinking too many cocktails and eating a few more platefuls than I should have in the restaurant) we did some really fun things like riding a camel (more on that in the next post) and shopping (of course).

And for once, I actually managed to take some outfit photos! So much so that I am making two posts about the trip (although my unphotogenic-ness is a slight let down ha!).

Holidayyyy

Sooo this week I'm away with my family in Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands.

And whilst I've been taking outfit posts every day (finally getting into the habit!), I thought I'd make a little post on here to make it a bit easier for me to catch up when I'm home.

Mad about Mad Men

Alrighty, well I'm very late to the party (I can only blame the fact that I was 13 when it premièred and didn't really "get" the show), but I've recently been watching the entirety of the 60's-set series, Mad Men.

I'm almost caught up to the new season (no recent spoilers please!), and I'm loving the progression of the style throughout the series. I have to say that Sally and Megan Draper are definitely my newest style icons, and I'll for sure be channelling their looks in the near future.

So in spirit of my ever expanding love for sixties style, I've compiled some of my favourite looks from throughout the whole of seasons 1-5.

There are so many more that I just can't fit in or find good enough images of, but there's a definite brilliant nostalgia in the costumes on Mad Men, and I can't wait to finally watch season 6!

On another note, I'm off on holiday next week so I PROMISE to take lots of photos and get a blog post up for when I return.

Today, my friend Rhi and I went to the VOGUE Festival at the Southbank Centre. It was my first time there, and I was really impressed by the vibrancy of the area, it was full of all kinds people enjoying a stroll up the river bank, and of course, some stylish people were out in force!

Inside there were the options of hair braiding (which I was dying to do, but didn't get a chance), makeovers and to eat in the VOGUE cafe.

The talk we went to see was with Alexa Chung and Paul Smith, which I definitely thoroughly enjoyed. Both of them kept me so entertained throughout, and there wasn't a dull moment. Paul Smith was very inspiring and I truly admire his outlook on life.

There are a few quotes of his that I will be surely repeating to myself in the future, he know's exactly what he's talking about!

Alexa's dress was amazing, just my style, and it was by Paul Smith, of course! (Who else?)

And then to finish off the day, we ended up being stranded for a while on our way back home to Kent! Below is a photo of us after we got on the wrong train and ended up somewhere completely wrong, with no train back to London due for a looooooong time.

Psychedelic

So it's been a bit of a slow week (i.e. I've been living in my pyjamas and have barely left the house), so still no outfit posts as of yet! Sorryyyyyy!

To keep me occupied, and back into the swing of things, I decided to post the images from a photoshoot I recently did for my university project. With the help of my lovely flatmate Rikki, who agreed to be my model, and a lot of post production on photoshop to achieve the effects, this is what we came up with.

Completely forgot about this one!
Soooooo we're into the third month of the year now, and I've been on two mini-breaks already that I have obviously forgotten to post about.

There's not too many photos, as I was too busy sightseeing/being cold BUT I thought I'd share a few with you all from my trips.

So, first up was PARIS. Beautiful city, but very bitterly cold in January.. I wonder if they could sort that out? Even so, I had a lovely trip and it even snowed which was like a dream!

I had the best time, and most of it was spent with me scouring for male models, as it was Men's Paris Fashion Week ;) :) and wanting to eat lots of macaroons.

One downside to Paris is the food - it is all ham, and there is not enough bacon. (I LOVE bacon, hate ham)

And THEN we have my trip to Dublin over Valentines Day (nothing romantic about that, I went with 5 friends).

The trip involved shopping, going to the pub, drinking beer (I didn't try Guinness, I'm a failure) and a strange ride in a 4D cinema..

Such a good weekend, although I had to cut my trip short a day early to work at the Mary Katrantzou show at London Fashion Week (such a good experience).

Last week I was sent this lovely t-shirt from the amazing people at Oasap.com, and so yesterday, for a day shopping at Bluewater, I had a chance to wear it out! I really like the print because it's so unusual, and the fabric has a lovely comfortable feel to it.

Although I'd usually wear the t-shirt with more casual wear, I wanted to dress it up a little bit, so I paired it with a pleated black chiffon skirt, tights and patent black flatforms.

Picks for Christmas

Here are some of the pieces I'm hoping to pick up over the Christmas holiday! I really love the red dress- so Christmassy.. I think I may buy it to wear on the big day itself.

I love the grey cross print dress. I have a similar one, but it's plain grey, so this will really add some more edge to a style I'm already fond of.

The Christmas print jumper is a must for the festive season! I like this one because it's simple and wearable, whilst still keeping the holiday spirit.

A houndstooth playsuit is something I probably wouldn't have considered before, but this one is right up my street. I love the style and print, perfect for a Christmas party, or dressed down with boots and woolly tights.

These shoes are literally perfect, I've over worn my current loafers, and so these are a fresh alternative.

And lastly the glitter nail polish.. My latest obsession! I also adore the colour.

Carnaby Street Christmas.. So nice!

Whilst passing through Leicester Square we saw the Breaking Dawn Premiere being set up.. Exciting!

And earlier that day, whilst visiting Harrods, we saw the Designer/Disney window displays! I got a few photos but they didn't come out too well so here's some of the best. All of them were beautiful and the dresses were amazing. Definitely go and have a look if you're in London.

Company Magazine Fashion Forum

Better late than never..

Last Wednesday, my friend Sam and I attended the Company Magazine Fashion Forum at Hackney Picture House.

It was a really, really good night, with a really, REALLY great goodie bag!

We got to meet some lovely and interesting people, such as other bloggers and fashion fans, and also some member of the company team, like the fabulous Gem, whose blog I found earlier this year when researching my university course (she did the same course at the same uni!).

We also got to hear advice from the company team, and some industry insiders! I would definitely recommend anyone who's interested in fashion to hit up the next one, you'll love it.

I was so excited to see these nail varnishes as I've been wanting to broaden my collection for a while, and these are two amazing ones! Also, I love body shop products (and pink grapefruit!) so this was a lovely treat

Blueberries and sweets! There were also some popchips in the bag, but I was hungry on the train home..

I was very happy to see the St Tropez gradual tan, I had it a few months back and I loved the natural glow it gave me (I'm not usually a big tan fan) so I'm so glad I've got a new one to replace the old! And a mitt so that my hands don't stain (praise!). I'm also excited to try out the "front row" shampoo and conditioner.. I've heard good things.

Oh, and I made it on to the Company website, which was a lovely treat! Check out all of the other attendees featured here.

I also bought a few new items whilst in London that day (uh-oh) and so I'll post about them either tomorrow or Thursday when I get a chance x

Just a quick post to check in and update you on what's been going on in my life this week.
I have been absolutely swamped with work for uni, as it's all crept up on me at the last minute, and as usual, here I am in a mad rush to finish it!
So as I don't have much time, here's some pictures of the week. There's not much, because its been work, work, work, but with my deadline on Monday, I'll have more time to post from now on! (Whilst keeping up to date with my new project, of course)
I am also attending the Company magazine Fashion Forum on Wednesday which I'm really excited for, so expect pictures and details from that in the next week or so.

My research on Louis Vuitton

And my V&A membership arrived! It's such a pretty card, I can't wait to use it.

Dr Martens Styling Day

Last Thursday was my university's Dr Marten's Styling day, where Dr Martens sent us a load of wonderful shoes, boots and clothes, and we, in groups of 3 or 4, had to style the models we had previously chosen and perform 2 photo shoots, one on a location and another in the studio. The idea behind the shoot and styling was a very raw and grungy "This is England" feel,

Our project for this term is to research a brand and to create an image in our groups of 4 that represent that brand. The designer we have been given is Louis Vuitton, which is a brand that I definitely underestimated the scale of! It is HUGE, and has so many different aspects to it, that now at the end of the project its a bit of a struggle to get finished!

This week we also shot our image for the project, a preview of which you can see above. The idea behind the shoot was the theme of travel which is a huge value of Louis Vuitton and so we incorporated a look-a-like of the classic trunk, and also a real, vintage Louis Vuitton bag. Our model was styled simply, and to the theme of the looks at the Spring/Summer '13 show.

I am very pleased with how our vision has turned out, and stay tuned for the finalised images, which I hope to upload by next week!
