Will I get hurt? Will I lose your love?, just for being me? The questions would flow on and on and I would close my flower and not let anyone in. The sun couldn’t shine on me and therefore I couldn’t shine on you. So, in courage, love, light, joy, bliss, peace, and sensually I open my flower and my heart…to you ~

I’m enjoying my life and can truly say that I am happy with who I am and who I am becoming. My life is a never ending, beautiful song that I absolutely love to sing; sing from my heart with all that I have in me. I am free to share her with you and I hope you’re enjoying my song. I have met so many beautiful souls as of late who understand the path that I am on. They also understand my journey and I am grateful for the experience we shall have together! Life is all about finding more and more ways to loving and accepting yourself for who you are and loving others for who they are and who they are becoming as well! Evolve!!

Please enjoy this beautiful song by, Ayo ~ Life Is Real. Every word she sings describes what I just said. I thank one of my new friends on Facebook for sharing her with me. I say YES to this song and the beautiful spirit that flows through it!!

In the light I am healed. My body, my mind, everything that makes me, me. I drink my cup and I am filled. Now, I want more. I need more. Yes! Give. Me. More.

The Home of Wellbeing has become so much more to me than just a spa and a place of rest and relaxation, here’s why….

Since my first visit to JeJu in August I have been back almost every weekend and I can only try and tell you in words how much healing has taken place within me. I like to say that I have been renewed over and over and over again, the feeling is exhilirating!! I have attracted this experience into my life because this is what I wanted, this is what I'm all about, H-E-A-L-I-N-G! Healing can come in so many ways it’s different to all but this is the way for me and I bathe in it’s fullness every time. I get it in to the very last drop, I don't play. It's very important to me to take care of myself so that I can have the strength to take care of all that I have to take care of.

Whatever ways healing comes to you take advantage of it and don’t hold back, we need it time and time again. I believe that the art of creating your own healing avenue is priceless and will only come if it’s important to you, so get it done!

JeJu has been on my radar since we first came across it, (hubby and I) last year summer and ever since then it was only a matter of time before I would get to have my first experience. It has been everything I hoped for and more. Every time I go I experience something new that it's an expectation now. The last time I went, which was last week Tuesday, my wonderful husband came with me!! I (we) loved the experience together!! At first we couldn't really believe this was happening so that in itself was heart racing. We walked through the doors and stepped into another world...paradise? Yes! Paradise! We stayed apart momentarily only to be reunited to eat and enjoy some of the specialiaty rooms together, lovely!! When I'm alone I get to meditate like no other, listen to my mp3 recordings that have been awaiting my ears, think, sleep...whateva I feel and there is absolutely no rush to do anything. My husband encourages me to go and go as often as I like because he too can see the change in me and loves it because he's the #1 beneficiary ;-)

I love to pamper myself and be pampered. This is something that all of my friends know about me, I don't make it a secret. I recognize that it is a desire of mine and I deserve it, and it is ok! If I can sit all day being serviced, pampered and pleasured I would do it in a heart beat and lavish in it thoroughly! I'll share a philosophy that hubby and I came up with some time ago, we believe that a man is supposed to feed his woman’s feminine energy and of course understand how much that would cultivate, release and heal all that is within her. He also understands how much it will mean to him in return because a happy, pleased, satisfied, joyful, blissfull, orgasmically free woman loves to give of herself and treat her man as the King that he is. On the other side we believe that it is a woman’s responsibility to make sure her man is pleasured regularly and in turn she benefits from him always wanting to give to her. It works perfectly. It's the Yin and Yang of love, of life! Don’t you just love the flow of love? By making a way for me to go to a place like JeJu regularly my husband is doing his part in the flow and I am deeply, deeply appreciative! Thank you my love :-)

On another hand, I wish that I had some other company! Girl company! Don’t get me wrong I love going by myself but it would be so divine if I had a girlfriend who would be willing to go with me. Heck, I don’t even mind if she goes by herself at times…just go!

Never mind my little complaint, it will happen and very soon, I know. And, don't let the picture of the two ladies scare you either. I see two ladies, uncovered and comfortable with each other being that way. There is a deep understanding, a sister bond that says, this is me take me for who I am and all that I am, uncovered and all. It's sensual but not sexual. It's love but not being in love, at this moment. The relationships that I have with women mean so much to me that I cherish every aspect of it, learn and grow into it. It's very liberating...you should try it!

So, as I write this I’m here...at JeJu!! Getting ready to spend another night and having fun with the thoughts of what service or services I want tonight. Well, I know I’m going to have a scrumptious Korean dinner, maybe vegetable noodles?, some sweet and delicious carrot juice as well. A Hip Bath seems so appropriate tonight since I haven’t had one in a few weeks. A hip bath you ask? Well, picture sitting down on a cushioned stool (comfortable stool I might add), that has an open hole for you to sit and sink into it’s comfort. Underneath is a burner where a lovely lady puts a bowl of herbs (which smells so good) filled to the brim on the burner so that as it burns you receive all of the healing agents from every herb. You are covered from head to toe in an insulator like garment that aids in your body releasing sweat...some times profusely so if you're into loosing weight, releasing toxins from your body through sweating you'll enjoy this. This procedure consists of so much healing to the feminine womb, especially if you are experiencing any feminine issues. It's natural and safe and so beneficial in many different ways. However, if you don’t have any feminine issues it's still great for you. I believe in maintaining what is well in order to keep it that way, ya dig!

A Hip Bath is good for ladies who have just given birth. It cools your womb and aligns your rectum. It’s great for constipation and hemorrhoids. If you experience heavy bleeding during your menstrual than it will help you as well. There are many more benefits, you’ll just have to experience it for yourself or do a Google search if you’re too scared…LOL!!! It’s just great for your overall health and well being. It last for and hour and if you find it’s too hot for your twat (giggle) than you can always have your assistant cool it down for you :-) Not your twat...but the heat on the burner, LOL!!

So where was I, oh yes...trying to decide what else I will do tonight. Of course there’s the bath tubs and specialty rooms that always have the pleasure of having me!

Nighty Nite...

This is my pleasure…now what’s yours?

<----- An oldie, but goodie just for you :-)

Now you see me, now you don’t.

My last post was an urgent pause that I needed to make before I took another step. I’ve come to accept that part of me and how I operate. I must take needed breaks after putting out as much as I do, just know that when you don’t see me I’m still here but operating on a different plane, seeking guidance and getting things together. When I become so engulfed in what I do, my life can get away from me. I must find balance. My remedy is to slow down and find my ground and make sure my feet are solid. During that time the most amazing things happens to me, my garden grows ever more and the weeds are plucked in abundance. I grow because I’m more focused on the inside and whenever I dig deep I find more of who I am and what my purpose is. Some would call it soul searching, I like that term so I’ll go with that. I’m searching my soul, becoming connected to my source only to return with a wealth of knowledge that has always been there, but all new to me…and you. When I speak, when I write, when I share my light, it’s all because I allow myself to be used as a vessel which pumps life into everything and everyone I touch. You are blessed to be reading this, I am blessed to be typing this and all is well because of it.

I’m watching it as it happens right before my eyes but still, don’t. want. to. let. go.

Everything in me is fighting to let go but yet fighting to hold on. These two sides living in me are tearing me apart. But yet, still, won’t let go.

I experience both sides, the joys of letting go and the sadness of holding on. I can’t breathe but neither can you.

But wait! I’m going to get to the bottom of this, that I am for sure.

Digging Deep, Digging Deep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Highly functioning people look for solutions. They are known as solution oriented people.
The greatest priority in life is the ability to enjoy it. People who know how to do that; how to take each day that they are alive, and go through it and enjoy it are never a burden to anybody else. She’s inspired me to live orgasmically, blissfully, and wondrously free and maybe she can do the same for you! I live my life open to receiving what I can learn from anyone I choose and even though I may not agree with everything I’m not in the least bit concerned with allowing myself to learn from them. There are many teachers and guides all coming from different points of views but sometimes if you listen closely enough you’ll find they are saying the same thing. You’d be surprised if you would just open yourselves and allow your desires to lead you to where you need to go and what you need to learn. The letter, short and sweet, touched my inner core and moved me deeply, hope it does the same for you ~~~
"Dear Goddess:
The lady reading this is beautiful, classy, strong and I love her.
Help her live her life to the fullest.
Please promote her and cause her to excel above her expectations.
Help her shine in the darkest places where it seems impossible to
love.
Protect her at all times, and lift her up when she needs you the
most.
And let her know that she walks with you, and that she will
always be safe and beloved.”
Have a sweet, sweet week,
LiYana
You can visit LiYana at, Re-Defining Monogomy!
Ms. Chyna Williams!
I’m always inspired by beautiful women whose light is an inspiration to me and to others. When one of those women catches my eye I have to look twice so that I can get to know her and what she’s all about! I want to know what makes her tick! What keeps her motivated to do what she does? How does she do it all, with all that she’s responsible for? You know, questions that run through your mind when you meet someone that just makes you say….ahhh!
Well, I’ve had the privilege of knowing one of these ladies since high school! We were the best of friends and we hung out together all the time. Those of you who went to school with us know what I’m talking about :-) Thanks to, yup, Facebook again, we have re-united and rekindled our relationship. When we got back together she had so much going on that I wanted to know all about it. When we lost touch she had one child, now she’s got five!! She’s got several successful businesses, is always on the go, and has a wonderful relationship with one of the most loving men that I’ve gotten to know. So I had to take a moment and introduce you to this lovely lady and hope that you are inspired to keep pursuing your dreams and desires just like she has!!
Ladies and Gentlemen…Ms. Chyna Williams
1. Who is Chyna Williams? Check out this short intro. clip to find out!
2. What inspired you to get in to dance?
It started as a business investment. My initial partner backed out after all of the paper work was signed with my name, so I had to make a go of it. My daughter was taking dance classes at the time so I took it as an opportunity to take control of her training. I took my common sense, business know how, drive and perfectionist mentality and applied it into, Chymes Dance Studio.
The fact that I wasn't a trained dancer worked in my favor because I had an eye for what the public wanted and sought to provide classes for that demographic. Although we offered traditional genres, I took street dancers and made them the base of my staff. The concept of real hip hop classes took off! We became one of the most popular dance schools in Atlanta. From there I founded the Atlanta Dance Invasion, a “You Got Served” come to life hip hop battle, along with Jeremy Strong and BeeJay Harris. The dance invasion became one of the most respected dance battles in Atlanta. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=60C0FC69647FBB38.
I then started focusing on the really talented young dancers creating the young superstarz, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlXw-UAd36s. We enjoyed an Atlanta Braves game yesterday thanks to hubby’s J.O.B, again! We all had a great time despite the Braves losing, come on Braves, what’s up with that? Hubby and I were invited by one of his customers to what we thought was a Jazz club on Saturday but turned out to be a grave disappointment, the music was so, so bad we couldn’t stand it. But, you know spending time with the hubstar (a term I got from my girl on twitter) is always fun!! At least we can say, been there done that.
I absolutely love Facebook because of all the long lost friends I’ve reconnected with. We visited one of my friends Friday night before she left for her trip to Florida and had a good time, even though it was brief.
I posted the pics that I promised to share of the night we went to the Dub Car Show on my Facebook page so if you’re friends with me there, you’ll be able to see them. They came out too dark for me to post them on my blog.
Gotta run, about to eat dinner that the hubstar just finished cooking up. See you in the week!
My struggle came when I knew I couldn’t deal with them in the same old way, I had to push and do different. So that’s when I decided to call a friend.
We talked, or should I say, I talked and she listened. Listened to every word that I had to say and never interrupted me. I trusted her to hear my words and not judge me…for being me. Even in the midst of what may have seemed like a dark moment, I knew that she knew I was going to be ok. When she did speak she said to me, “I’m going to give you a dose of your own medicine…read your last post!”
Her words didn’t come as a surprise to me at all because all the while, while pushing past my challenges I had my last post in mind. How could I produced something so, encouraging, inspiring, and helpful and be here where I am today? The answer is a simple one and an encouraging one for me. I am continually challenged to put my money where my mouth is. In other words, I am challenged to practice what I preach! For in these shoes that I have chosen to wear through my life, I am satisfied with that, thoroughly.
The universe hears and wants to give me all that my heart desires to do and be in the lives of others, and if that means challenging me with my own words then that’s what it’ll have to be. And to that I say, thank you!
Love & Light ~
The Seagulls were busy up above and the sun was out, saying hello. A typical days beginning here at our families beach house.
We visit our beach house at least twice a year and spend anywhere from a month to two months at a time. This has always been a dream of mine and now I’m living that dream. One of my reasons to own my own beach house was because I love the ocean. Sometimes early in the morning before anyone else is awake I put on one of my free flowing long skirts, halter top, and head-tie, and walk down to the water. At the water I’m at peace. I sing, I dance, I pray, I meditate and I see; I see the things to come.
Did you enjoy my early morning manifestation story? When I can, I make it a priority to write one of these before I start my day. I keep it in a journal that I call, My Life’s Creation. Yes, it’s me creating my life intentionally. Do you know that you have the power to do that? I can look back and read some of my intentions and am always amazed to see me living them here and now in my reality. It motivates me to create more of what I want in my life, reassures the power that I have to do so, and keeps me in a state of always turning my attention to those things wonderful in my life.
If you would like to start your own manifestation journal and don’t know where to begin, here are a few pointers.
#1 Be deliberate about it! Focus on what you want and only that.
#2 If it feels good then it’s a clear indicator that that’s what you want.
#3 Act like it’s happening now, don’t wait for it to happen, act it.
When I first got started it was a whole lot of fun coming up with and creating my life’s dreams, hopes and aspiration. These were all things that I was programmed in to believing that I couldn’t have or having them would come with a grave amount of struggle. Who says that I have to believe that crap anymore? Who says that you have to believe someone or something telling you that you can’t have what your heart desires? The only thing stopping you from having everything you want is the little voice in between your ears. I know it may sound like a cliché but it’s true. The other day on my Facebook page, I made an update that said, “What we think, we become.” This is not unthinkable, and it’s certainly not unfathomable to be as true as the color of your skin. And, of course accepting this truth will come with a humongous amount of responsibility for you to start paying serious attention to your thoughts.
Take a look around you, you have created everything in your life right now whether you believe that or not and if you want better you have to begin to think that better is here for you. You can not leave it up to anyone else or something else to create the life you want, you have to focus your energy and time in creating the life you dream of having as if it were the very oxygen you breathe.
Now, with that in mind don’t wait, begin today to type or write down the life you want so desperately to have. Get buck wild with it, it’s your life! It doesn’t matter what it is. If you have children who behave badly, write down that you see them having good manners and acting “right”, so that every time you go out in public people are compelled to compliment you. If you have a husband that doesn’t help out enough, write down that you see him getting up every Saturday morning, before you, to get the chores started. If you have a wife that doesn’t like to go out with you, write down you seeing her dressed and ready every weekend to go out and party like a rock star with you. It doesn’t matter what you want, just be intentionally deliberate about it. You have to mean it and believe it!
While you are in your motion of your deliberate intentions begin to notice things shifting in the direction of your manifestations. Begin to appreciate what’s new in your life and as always things will continue to unfold. Life will begin to open up for you in ways that are so different from the old ways that you will have to acknowledge the change. You will want to welcome the change. Love yourself enough to change the things you don’t want and like in your life. It doesn’t matter how old you are or young, this is the law of life. Jeju is an amazing getaway place for all to experience peace and bliss!! Pronounced, Je (Zhey) Ju (Zhu), it is a Bath House where healing begins and never ends.
This was my first time going to JeJu, Home of Well Being and it will definitely not be my last. I enjoyed myself (maybe a little too much ;-) so much that I didn’t want to leave. But the amazing thing is that it’s opened 24 hrs of the day seven day a week so you don’t have to leave until you are good and ready, until you’re done getting all that your body can take.
When I first arrived I was given my locker keys, one for my shoes and the other for my clothes. When I walked into the ladies locker room I was pleasantly greeted by two Asian women who guided me to my locker and waited for me to put my things away. Hold up, let me rewind…when I walked in to the ladies locker room I was hit by the jolting energy that sparked through my body as I watched all the nude bodies walking around so freely. Who me? Well, yes, even though I’m not the squeamish type when it comes to nudity I just wasn’t expecting to see it right smack in my face as soon as a walked in. Sometimes it’s best not to role up on a Sistah unexpectedly, Ha! After getting past my initial shock I wasn’t sure if I was ready to get butt naked with the rest of the beautiful flowers walking around. Oh, ok…I didn’t have to get naked if I didn’t want to but if I wanted to enjoy the showers, baths, the sauna's or the many different massages I would have to. So, I decided to get familiar with the place a little before I dove in to the deep end. But I could not help but notice how free those women were.
I made my way outside in the commons area where men, women and children mixed and mingled. Some quietly reading a book, others eating, others relaxing in front of the plasma t.v or enjoying a lap in the pool or relaxing in any one of their specialty sauna’s. You could take your pick as there is so much to do. I walked around and read brief descriptions of the many benefits each of the saunas offer. There is the Gold & Silver Sauna which is lined and covered with gold and silver because it is said to have, among many other things, a positive effect on nerve stability, poison counteraction, and neurosis. The Charcoal Room eliminates toxins and wastes increasing perspiration and your resistance to diseases. The Rock Ice Room lowers your body’s temperature contracting your skins pores and leaving your skin healthy and resilient. The Jade Room increases metabolism, improves circulation, and relieves arthritis pain. The Red Baked Clay Sauna helps to flush out impurities and release dead skin cells for clean and refreshed skin. All of these rooms and more (The Jewel Room and Rock Salt Room), are open for you to walk in and out as you please. It’s up to you how ever long you want to take as everyone is moving at their own pace. There is literally no need to rush, they have something for everyone.
I chose to go into the Charcoal Room and the Red Baked Clay Room at first before going back into the ladies locker room where I finally took my bath! I chose those two rooms first because I wanted to detox my body, removing the toxins and refresh and revive my skin. The rooms where quiet, although you can hear people talking in the commons area, it was peaceful, you didn’t feel disturbed. I spent a good hour and a half between both rooms. I contemplated going back to my locker and putting on my bathing suit to swim in the pool but the pool was not what I wanted. I wanted to experience the baths tucked away privately in the ladies locker room.
Back in the locker room, nervous at first, but after awhile letting all my inhibitions go, I had decided that, when in Rome you do as the Romans do. So off went my clothes, next, I grabbed a towel (which you’re only provided small hand towels that barely cover anything, so why bother?), and then walked into the bath room. As large as this room is you don’t feel entirely exposed because there is so much going on. No one has the time to stop and stare or feel like you’re being stared at. Everything is open except the dry and wet sauna rooms. Showers to your left, three bath pools (hot, warm and ice cold) in front of you, and the massage area to your right. Just in front of that area there is a sit down shower area where you can sit in front of your own mirror with your handheld shower hose and bathe as if you were in your own bath. Except, this bath has multiple shower heads with multiple mirrors with multiple seating, and there is bath soap, shampoo and conditioner provided for you. I hope your imagination can make sense of it all. The next best thing to your imagination is for you to go and experience it for yourself. It was great!
I decided to take my shower first, standing up in the stalls. (You have to shower before entering the baths and you can choose between the sit down or stand up showers.) My back was turned so that wasn’t such a bad introduction to bathing nude. Then I walked over to the hot tub (which was short of boiling….why didn’t they warn me? LOL), took my time and got in. After that I decided to go into the wet sauna (guess I wasn’t done baking) and realized that I needed a shot of O2 before walking in there. Seriously, you have to be prepared for how hot that place is so that if you have breathing issues you won’t be caught off guard. I decided to leave just as soon as I went in, I was enjoying my soak in the tub much better. At one point it just seemed like everyone was moving in slow motion. I mean really taking their time to do whatever they pleased and no one was worried about what she looked like. With the exception of a few ladies who were trying to use the small hand towels to cover up, all the rest of us were as free and comfortable as we wanted to be. They were trying to cover up after they were told they couldn’t even wear their thongs in the baths. When they say nude in this place, they really mean it. The atmosphere is so relaxed and free, to be consumed with covering yourself would take away much of the experience for you. However, if you want to bring your own towel you can, no need to worry about that.
I made my way back to the locker room to blow dry my hair a little because it was time for me to catch up on some much needed zzzzz in the sleeping room. In this room you can choose to be nude or clothed it’s up to you. It’s quiet, with dim lighting and has sleeping pads for you to get comfy. I took the time to meditate before I fell off to sleep for about a half an hour, I needed the rest. After leaving there I went back into the bath area, this time to sit in front of the mirror and take my time lavishing in the warm shower water. From my head to my toes I bathed, relaxed and enjoyed the moment…unlike any other I’ve ever experienced! Thank you universe, is all I kept saying. Why? Because I’m open to receiving and I’m grateful for whatever experiences help me to feed my feminine energy.
Thank you my Love for feeding my feminine energy, and as always when I’m fed my family is fed, my friends are fed and my community as well, I love it! So, ladies if you are ever in the ATL or live here (hint, hint to my girlfriends in the ATL) and want to go visit the Bath House, hit me up so that we can go together. Let’s feed the girlie girls in us!! Or, if you want to go alone, whatever!, just go and please have a grand ole time! And, if you have visited before then that’s even better because you know what I’m saying is divine. You can spend all day and night if you want, indulge yourself in the pool, baths, showers, saunas, specialty rooms for only $25!!! I know, I’m speechless myself. Kids to under 12 are only $15. If you want a massage of any sort, from body scrubs, to green tea massage, to hip baths it’s going to cost you extra but if you think you’re worth it then it’s absolutely worth it. And, if you’re into to getting acupuncture therapy they have that as well. So are you ready to let your hair down and have an experience of a lifetime? You won’t be disappointed, trust me.
We were invited to be amongst the first to view the new Jim Henson show, Dinosaur Train!
Dinosaur Train is a new t.v. show that will be airing Monday – Friday on PBS kids. The series is scheduled to begin on September 7th at 8am. Make sure you and your kids hop on aboard the Dinosaur train because you’ll be in for a real treat. We absolutely fell in love with the characters, the lessons and the positive messages that surrounds their adventures!
The show stars a character by the name of Buddy, who is a funny, curious and intelligent T-Rex. Your kids will love to take adventures with Buddy as he explores and makes his discovery’s with the help of his Mom and Dad, the Conductor and the new Dinosaurs he meets on the train along the way. Buddy’s siblings are Don, Shiny and Tiny who are very close with their Mom and Dad which teaches our children the importance of family and working together as a team.
PBS is very excited that the show is based on teaching our kids more about science, especially for our younger audiences. This is what I feel will make this show a success with our kids. I know my children will enjoy exploring nature, natural science, natural history and paleontology. Dinosaur Train begins when Buddy (a Tyrannosaurus Rex) is warmly adopted into a family of Pternodon’s, it’s funny watching the children on the video try and pronounce these names, but at the same time the education is priceless.
Me and family greatly appreciated this opportunity and would like for you and your family to experience the laughter and joy we got from watching Buddy and his family. We enjoyed spending our time with all the other Mom Bloggers who were invited to this sneak preview. We got in free, thanks to hubby’s company being one of the top sponsors of the event. I love the perks. He loves cars so to him this was a treat! It was especially fun for just me and him to be out without the kiddies who were at home with Grandma. Gotta love grown up time! Ludacris was there performing with some of his artists, he and his crew tore up the event!
I’ve been playing catch up ever since Saturday because after the show we went out and partied until the early morning…you know how we get down. I’m still feeling the after shocks…LOL! Sunday we took our babies to see G.I Joe and they loved it, we all did. Monday I had a busy day at home and hubby had just the same at work but holding on to the sweet and yummy memories of the weekend got us by just fine. We (or should I say hubby) took lots of pics of the show and our night after, you’ll see why we didn’t want it to end! (The pics that we took at our after party came out very dark so he’s working on editing them for me. As soon as they are done, I’ll post them).
Luda performed with DTP (Disturbing The Peace), Lil Scrappy, Shawna and other artists.
I kicked it with one of my good friends from Highschool!
Bought a dress from Ragz 2 Richz Boutique! A little while ago I was asked to do just that and I am so thankful that I said yes to the opportunity and that’s how I met Patricia Neely-Dorsey. This beautiful women appeared in my inbox with a sweet and gentle request that I couldn’t pass up. She has written a book of life in poems that will absolutely take your breath away! The name of the book is, Reflections of A Mississippi Magnolia.
From the moment I started reading the Foreword I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I wanted more of this lady packaged in this sweet book of poems. In Patricia’s own words she says, “I always hesitate to call myself a poet. I feel more like a vessel or a conduit through which the poems flow. I never intentionally sat down to write any of them. They all came to me, fully complete and neatly packaged, title and all.” Her heart and passion for her work shows in every word and puts you in a place of being right there with her as the words were flowing. She also says, "There are so many negative connotations associated with Mississippi and the south in general. In my book, using childhood memories, personal thoughts and dreams, I attempt to give a positive glimpse into the southern way of life. In my book I try to show that there is much more to Mississippi and the south than all of the negatives usually portrayed. I invite readers to Meet Mississippi (and the south) Through Poetry, Prose and The Written Word." It definitely gives you a greater appreciation for the south, southern life and the men and women who love where they’re from.
I have so many favorites I would love for you to read like: “Southern Man”, “Summer Night (Southern Style)” and “The Magnolia Tree”, from her Southern Life collection that makes you want to experience it all for yourself. “Poetry” and “Little Miss Perfect” are from her Childhood Memories collection, describes personal memories of loved ones in her life, makes your heart say, wow! “One Room School”, from her Family History collection, reminds you of where we came from. “Loving Me”, “Happy (With The Nappy)”, “Shades of Lovely (Good Enough to Eat)”, *“Inside Me” and “Turning 40” (you could tell this is my favorite collection), from her Getting Personal collection, reminds you of how special, beautiful and awesome you really are in your own skin. “Simple Tastes” and “Our Place”, from her Intimacies collection will have you melting from all the love that flows like sweet honey, Yummy. “If Mississippi’s In You” and “Reflections of A Mississippi Magnolia”, from her Summing Things Up collection is the exclamation point, the wham bam thank you ma’am of a Mississippi Magnolia!
I enjoyed every bit of this wonderful book from front to back and I’ll enjoy reading it over and over and over again, I know you will too!! Check out her website and see for yourself and while you’re there pick up your copy as well.
Inside Me*
Inside me,
A well springs eternal,
Hopes and dreams take flight,
Poems spew forth like a fountain,
Flowers bloom in bright colors,
Butterflies spread their wings,
And new life awaits.
Inside me,
There’s a barefoot girl in pigtails,
A woman in silk stockings and high heels,
A sophisticated lady of the day,
And a sultry lady of the evening,
There’s a church goer and a party thrower,
There’s somebody’s mother, daughter, sister,
Wife, lover and friend;
There’s all of that
Inside me.
Can you see it?
He’ll have to create an updated version to include little Joshy. I’m taking a pause so that I can stop and celebrate what has given me so much joy through the many life lessons I’ve had to learn and through the pains of stretching myself to grow into the Womyn that I am today.
Through each stage we’ve been blessed with incredible children who has shown us in so many ways what life is really about: love, family, friendship, hope, joy, accomplishments, celebrations and stopping to smell the roses. Through the rough spots they have been there, smiling right back at us to remind us of one of the greatest accomplishments and successes that anyone can enjoy which is simply creating life itself.
Celebrate with me as you watch this video of my family.
(I’m on my way to the IKEA store in downtown ATL with my Mom. I understand that it doesn’t matter what the position either, if it pays the bills than that’s all that matters.
I want to start off with our pattern and how it affected everything. You remember I talked about complaining?, well hubby would listen and basically drop everything (which he’ll still do today, just differently now) to come to my rescue to the point where he would leave his job to come home and begin a business just to have more time with his family. Let me clarify a little….he didn’t always leave because of my complaining he really and truly felt burdened by the business, the many long hours and him not being able to spend time with his family like he would have wanted to. He’s a true family man at heart and the business (car business) was beginning to wear him out so he wanted to find a career change that would continue to support a large family. Network marketing was what we put our focus on.
We would push ourselves in the business(s) to find success for our family, not to mention we would get to work together and we all love it when Daddy is home, but sometimes the push just wouldn’t be enough. In many instances it got to a point where we needed to make some sales just to put food on the table and that was not a pleasant place to be in. Then we would make the decision for him to go back to work outside of the home, things would get extremely good for us. Family vacations, cars, shopping and all the bells and whistles. Life was good….at least material wise but that lingering desire would always show itself again and the complaining would start, hubby would begin to get taxed by it, his desire to be at home with his family would come out full force and before you know it…another business and another down sizing, of everything. Time to move…again.Tough. It was tough.
This time around (before he went back to work) we found ourselves asking the question, how can we have our cake and eat it too? Meaning, how can we have Daddy home, with him and I owning and operating our own successful business(s)? The answer, Pay Our Dues! This is where my loving sisterhood has come in to play (this is only one aspect of paying our dues, but a very, very important one). I’ve got them! Those loving sisters I can pick up the phone and let it all hang out and not have to worry about anything! I did it the morning I wrote part 1 of this post. I called her so I wouldn’t have to call him. She was there for me just because and that’s all that I needed. I wouldn’t have felt good doing that years ago because I would have felt like I failed and I didn’t want anyone to know. My decisions today are different though, I’m paying my dues by sticking it out and not allowing fear to creep in and destroy our bond. It’s a life line, and I’m learning how important it is to have a sisterhood. This goes back to my early relationship with my Mom….
As a little girl it’s so important to know that your Mom has confidence in all that you are, not necessarily all that you do but all that you ARE. This begins your road of high self-esteem as a women. You learn from early on how to have confidence in yourself therefore having confidence in others with you, therefore having confidence in your role as a Mother. Knowing that you don’t have to put up safe walls to protect yourself from other women. Understanding that not everyone is the enemy. If you don’t learn this at a young age it’s harder to learn it as an adult but this is what I had to do. This is the reason I continue to become better in this area not only for my sake but for the sake of my daughters as well. I want my girls to know what it feels like to trust another women, be there for her and cherish the bond that they have. My husband and I are building strong, confident, women who believe in themselves as mother’s, wives and friends no matter what.
I don’t want to end this post….there is still so much more….
It was a lot to manage on top of me dealing with my own feelings of missing him and trying to find my groove.
I’ve been a stay at home mom for 11 years now, and counting. There were times when I didn’t want to stay at home. I now realize it’s because I didn’t have the courage and confidence in myself as a stay at home Mom. Yes, I know….shocking right? It may look like I’ve always had it together and at times I did but there have definitely been seasons where I saw my worse. And in those times I didn’t have girlfriends to turn to and get help from, giving me their motherly and sisterly love. In fact, I didn’t want it because I didn’t trust another women to be there for me. I’ve had glimpses of trust and feeling what it was like to let a sistah in but those times were too far in between and I always found excuses as to why it was her fault things didn’t work out. And, I was very picky and hard to please so things never worked out. Now I’m picky in a good way because I’m not interested in bonding with women who gossip and talk badly about their husbands, I just could never get into that and I despise it. If you have a strong bond with women don’t destroy it with gossip and especially about your man. Your business with your man is your business.
My husband: so strong, so brilliant, so loving would always encourage me to stick it out with my relationships and allow her to see my vulnerability but like I said, the excuses were too many and the bases was fear. I was afraid to open up and let her see me. I thought she would judge, run back and tell her friends and end up hurting me (now mind you, some women are like that but those are not the ones I’m talking about). I now realize I felt this way because I never had a close relationship with the primary female in my life, my Mom. (This post has so many aspects to it, I hope it won’t end up being too long). However, I am grateful to say that my Mom and I have a wonderful relationship today and this all happened within this past year.
Now, back to this past week….
I’m finding my own groove after sharing the responsibilities of the home for almost the past two years with my husband. This is not the first time he’s been at home, it’s a pattern that our home has and it’s a pattern that has held us back from the successes that we wished to have had by now. What do I mean by that? First let me say this, my husband always seems to find these jobs where he is the boss man to be quite frank. He has so much responsibility for the job, employees and what not that his hours tend to be long, a lot longer than the average 9-5. (I want you to see what just happened there, excuse #1). This was one of the biggest reasons I used to always stay in a place of complaining about being at home. I would call him all throughout the day (because again, I had no one else) and complain about what my kids were and were not doing. He would listen, patiently and give me advice and then find a way to come home early. I always appreciated that but realized that in many ways it didn’t help me. He just thought he was being a good husband. To the point where my complaining found a way to get him to come home, leave his job and start a business venture together.
How many times does it take to learn a lesson?….as many times as it needs to. All in all, it’s been a wonderful learning experience!………I’ll have to pick up with part 2 in my next post…..
It is a presentation of pivotal moments in courage, conviction and creativity that celebrate the undeniable imprint of African Americans across the nation and around the world.
The exhibition is presented by broadcaster Tavis Smiley who says, “From the arrival of the first Africans in Jamestown, to the election of President Barack Obama, America I AM: explores and celebrates the trials and triumphs that illustrate the unique journey of African Americans. This exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of the diverse contributions that African Americans have made to the American mosaic while underscoring that each of us as human beings can leave an imprint.”
View Full Album
My son and I were deeply moved as we slowly walked through each gallery, taking in history lessons (new and old) that will remain with us for the rest of our lives, giving us an even greater appreciation for the struggles of our people. My son made several comments along the way and then at times was just speechless because he couldn’t find the words in that moment. I do remember him saying that he felt sad but proud at the same time and that it was just kind of hard to explain his mixed emotions. I completely understood him, as I experienced my own set of mixed emotions. We had a wonderful conversation over dinner about the things we saw and experienced. This is an exhibit that I think all families should make it a priority to attend, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a great way to get the whole family involved to explore this part of American history. My husband and I will be taking the whole family to see it before the doors close which will be, Sept. 6, 2009. Make sure and visit and leave me a comment telling me all about your experience. If you’ve already had the opportunity to go feel free to share your experience as well!
There is so much to see as there are more than 200 artifacts such as, “the Doors of No Return” from the Cape Coast Castle in Ghana, which enslaved Africans passed through to board ships to the “New World”, the typewriter Alex Haley used to write, Roots, Malcolm X’s personal journal and Koran, the door key and stool from the Birmingham jail cell that held Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he authored “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”, sports memorabilia from Michael Jordan and Arthur Ashe and so much more. There is also an interactive area where visitors can leave their own video “imprints”, a collection that as the tour goes on will have the potential to become the largest recorded oral history project in U.S. history.
Walmart Stores, Inc. is the exhibits proud presenting sponsor and is offering discounted tickets (Adults $10, Kids $4) when purchased at Walmart sores throughout Georgia. If you are on Facebook or on twitter you can add Walmart America I AM as your friend to be updated with the latest news and info. on the exhibit: Facebook, Walmart Aia and Twitter, WalmartAIA. Also, when you arrive at the exhibit don’t forget to purchase an audio tour ($3) featuring commentary by Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornel West which is an excellent bonus to the tour.
I want to give a shout out to the other Mom bloggers who went, Renee (Cutie Booty Cakes), Talibah (WeParent), Lorraine (Ask Wifey), Christie (My Life…A Work In Progress), Brooke (Jewelry Rockstar) and Sandra (I’m The Mommy I’ll Blog If I Want To). I think it’s a wonderful film that quickly get’s your attention and has you asking the question, what does having good hair mean to you? The answers to this question in the film vary so wildly it gives you an appreciation for how many different views we have on this topic. He was propelled to create the film after one of his little girls came running to his arms and asked him, “Daddy, why don’t I have good hair?”
While watching this short clip I immediately was reassured of my decision to go natural and to never put a perm in any of my daughters hair. It was the best thing I could have ever done. Have you ever heard of the term, creamy crack? Well if you haven’t, that’s what many women refer to perm, especially when it’s time for a touch-up. Are you kidding me? Creamy Crack? Does that even sound healthy for you? Sadly I can understand why this name came about. When it’s time for a touch-up we get to acting crazy, especially when the edges get a little nappy. But what’s so wrong with napps? If we were better equipped with knowledge, tools, products then the “napps” wouldn’t be such a problem. That’s the truth! I had no idea that for many, many years I was using the wrong tools in mine and my girls hair. If you don’t know any better then I guess the “creamy crack” just has to do. The problem is the same as being addicted to Crack on the streets; the addiction will only lead to damaged hair. Hair is a great place to start if you want to begin your journey to the natural you, Nappturality.
I was walking in the mall with a friend of mine the other day and a beautiful sistah walked past us who was wearing a natural hairdo. My friend made a comment and said, “wow, her hair is alive”. I thought that was beautifully put!
The film is scheduled to air some time in October and what I’m hoping for is a wake up call across the nation for us women to take pride in our natural hair and stop torturing our hair to look “un-natural”. When our little girls see these models and Hollywood actresses with long straight hair that’s all they see to deem as beautiful. Yes, through the years Hollywood has made an effort to show more natural hair styles but there is still a stereotype that exists which leads to little girls asking, why don’t I have good hair? Many of them are not aware of the fact that the straight hair we see is a weave! My husband said that he would like to know what they really look like up under all that fake hair. I stand to say that he’s probably not alone on this one. What would Meagan Goode and Lauren London “really” look like if their natural hair was permitted to be seen? (I only use these two ladies as examples because they are in the film), I’m not picking on them. I believe we need to encourage our young ladies to accept, embrace and fall in love with what’s naturally theirs because it is Beautiful!
Take a look at the clip and let me know what your reaction is. It’s got to spark something inside of you. If you’re pro perm, than share why? If not, do share!
And oh yeah, you’re in for a real treat because what would it be if it wasn’t funny, you know how Chris Rock does!!
My kids love it when we read together, makes learning that much more fun! After we read the poem they wanted to learn more about the trees that were mentioned. This was a decision of, should I continue with the curriculum and stay on track with the days lesson or should I allow learning simply be what they wanted it to be? Well, I chose the latter with a little touch of Mommy on the end!
The poem led us to do a whole new lesson, one that I created along the way. We got on the internet and did some research on each one of the trees and they all found their favorites and learned so much more about the different tress. We then clipped pictures from magazines and now they’re waiting for Mommy to go to the store and buy some more glue so that we can make individual colleague's. As for the older two I want colleague’s and full reports on the tree or trees of their choice by the end of the week. They weren’t too happy about the report part of it though…LOL!!! She’s got it going on with a passion for blogging, homeschooling and simply having fun at what she does. She has officially awarded me the One Lovely Blog Award!!! Thanks Darcel for this lovely award!!
I love getting awards! It’s nice to know that what you do in this life matters and makes a difference in the lives of others. Wouldn’t you agree? This is why as I receive this award I’m now going to give it away to a few bloggers that I’ve been blessed to know and have made a difference in my life! All of these ladies I’ve met through blogging, which is one of the many beautiful aspects of having your own blog.
First on my list is a lady that I met over 2 years ago. I’ve followed her life, at first with only two lovely girls and then through her pregnancy and birth of her precious prince. She’ll make you laugh and cry because you’ll be laughing so hard. I really enjoy her Vent Day Wednesday’s where you get to see her and her darling husband vent about whatever is on their mind, I love it! So I award Sheliza over at Mom Files !
Next up is a blogger that I met early last year and I’m so happy to be a part of her life. You never know how much you will learn from a person. I’ve followed her through her move to Texas, her son going off to the military, her daughter going to culinary school (something my oldest girl is interested in) and a number of other precious family matters. Let me not forget to mention that when you visit her blog be ready to hear the “cutie alert” siren ringing as loud as it can get, her grandbaby is A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!!! Don’t say I didn’t warn you . Without further ado, please give it up for Regina over at Regina’s Family Seasons!
Last but not least the next award goes to my buddy who I’ve known for almost a little over 3 years now and to this day still keeps a smile on my face. I always enjoy reading posts on her family life. She’s encouraging, inspiring, homeschools, a good cook and down right real as real can get! She’s tells it like it is so you either take it or leave it and she doesn’t worry about either. Her beautiful daughters, 4 to be exact, are known around the blogging world as the D.O.D which stands for The Daughters of Destiny! The love that she has for her hubby and children just oozes out of her blog, you’ll see what I’m talking about. So my last and final award goes to Aly Cat over at Written With Love (and an occasional vent or two)!
I hope you ladies enjoy this award just as much as I have and pass it on to bloggers who have touched your life as well!
Now after a full day of school and my little brake I’m off to cook a delicious meal of brown rice, sautéed mushrooms, spinach and a raw zucchini salad!
