although it's only been a few weeks since we got back from portugal, it already feels like forever. now i'm stuck in this dreamy mindset and can't stop thinking about where to go next... my thoughts are filled with images of wooded paths, patches of sunlight in lush forests, open meadows, secret swimming holes, tousled hair, crochet and lace.

This is just a seasonal summer home, but it still looks so lived in. I love the starkness of crisp white mixed with the organic knotted wood blocks, the industrial kitchen that still manages to feel warm, the pops of black and white throughout, brighty airy spaces and wide open windows.

These are just a few pieces from the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the MET showing until August 4th.. Oh how I wish I could go... The exhibit features pieces meant to show the "contrasting opposites" in his collections.

I'm drawn the most to the Romantic Primitivism and Romantic Gothic and Cabinet of Curiosities.
Organized by the Costume Institute, this is definitely not one to miss... if you're in the area.

The Bruce Silverstein Gallery in NYC is currently showing and exhibition through June 4th titled "Night". With photos from leading influential photographers of the 20s and 30s like Ilse Bing, Brassal, Andre Kertesz and my personal favorite, Robert Doisneau, the exhibit centers around photographic images made at night, a relatively unheard of technical capability at the time.

From Hungary to Paris to New York, these provocative pictures evoke a stillness that sticks with you long after you've viewed them. For those in NYC, check it out!

Regrets

While I don't believe in regrets... I do seem to have a few fashion related ones these days, especially as I pack for my Portugal trip (HIP! HIP!). On a separate note, I now realize I have not updated this blog in close to a month - yet another regret... but I digress.

Below are a few of my latest woes as my daydreams of summer and daydreams of my sun-drenched European vacation with my fellow newlywed get closer to reality.

I used to have a thing with gold... mainly that I didn't like it. It didn't stem from anything in particular, other than I foolishly thought it was too mature for my style. Now I love it. Ghetto, heirloom, delicate or bold - I don't discriminate. BRVTVS (pronounced "Brutus") is a line I am currently coveting. Designed by Caroline Ventura, named after history's most famous back-stabber and inspired by her love for menswear tailoring, BRVTVS is comprised of pieces that are equal parts delicate and restrained. Backed by a humorous tagline encouraging us to forget BRVTVS's dark past and "be friends", I personally couldn't agree more. I'll start with the Portia bracelet.

Pretty much obsessed with Friends with Benefits. Discovered by way of Refinery29s 'Brooklyn's Best New Designers' post, I became instantly enamored after viewing just a few pieces from the Look Book.

I love the emphasis on draping, cut-outs and asymmetrical hems. From short to long and from day to evening, there is seriously a dress for every occasion here. I would love to own each piece, but if I had to choose, I would pick the Helena dress. I could live in that dress. Must. Find. Now.

The weather took a turn for the worse today, but my thoughts are still filled with springtime sun and flowering blooms. The Spring 2011 line from Winter Kate is reminiscent of Ossie Clark's swinging sixties London vibe that I love so much. Lots of leg, accentuated waistlines and vibrant prints... yes please.

An Inspiring Space

While in the midst of juggling about ten different plates in the air, I found the time to sift through my emails and came across an ApartmentTherapy post about a quaint Santa Barbara bungalow. The home is just lovely and looks surprisingly roomy for only 540 sq. feet, but what truly inspired me about the space are the bright pops of color. It feels like a homemade quilt - warm, welcoming and safe. With all this family time and the holidays approaching, perhaps I am feeling a bit more sentimental than usual...

Undiscovered

I love hidden gems. Better yet, long-forgotten (until now) gems lying deep beneath the surface of one of my favorite cities, NYC. Huffington Post recently posted photos of an abandoned City Hall station from 1904. The station closed in 1945 due to an unsafe gap at the platform, but it is still beautifully preserved. Take the 6 train to the end of the line and get off at the Brooklyn Bridge stop. As it loops back uptown, you can find this station. Apparently there is a trick to check out the station... check out the article here.

Planning a quick trip to Puerto Rico in December and am already thinking of the perfect looks to pack. My style loves have been all over the map lately but I'm hooked on 70s inspired silhouettes like high-waisted menswear suiting, maxi skirts, crochet and plenty of silk. I think these looks would be great additions for a glamorous tropical vacation.

I was introduced to these images by one of my favorite blogs, Door Sixteen, and found more at Norwegian site Rom123. I am in love with blogger, Kjersti Skjellaug's beautiful home. I know my dog would never allow our interiors to stay this white for long - so I'll have to give up the dream.

Regardless, I love the whitewashed wood flooring and the low seating in the living area.

Somehow this space maintains a cool aesthetic without feeling institutional. These are the exact interiors I picture set against a cold and rugged Norwegian environment.

Maripossa is an Australian-based jewelry company hatched from the creative mind of Lauren Besser. Lauren was kind enough to pass on some images from her latest collection, and every piece is one that I wish I had in my own jewelry box.

Each piece takes Lauren anywhere from a few hours to a few days to make. Handwoven from a variety of materials like silver and copper, the textural element of each design is where the true beauty lies. Each handmade design comes with slight variations, ensuring that no two pieces are exactly alike. I just wish I could see the collection in person!

The Svengali is my favorite. The distressed inspiration somehow remains feminine and fragile. This fall, I would wear this piece with a long sleeve maxi dress and the Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots!

Stay tuned! While currently stocked only in Australia, let's hope that Lauren opens up an e-commerce store for all her admirers overseas!
