He damn near telegraphed the punch a day or two by saying a strike on Kharg island was iminent. If they can keep this an aerial campaign without putting troops on the ground then I'm for it. Put troops on the ground and I get skittish. AFRICA IS HUGE! Logistics...resupply, evacuation etc...is gonna be a bitch. The only way to do Africa on the ground is to setup MANY firebases....I'm talking about bases big enough to at least land C-130s, while at the sametime expecting every radical in the region to be attacking on a daily. Troops on the ground? Doable but fraught with danger.

In alot of these pics you'll notice hatches and ramps open. Train how you fight right? You would think in the era of drone hysteria and all the vids of combatants in the Russia/Ukraine war flying drones into open ramps and down open hatches that this simple little thing would be practiced. But it ain't. In this case I can identify the problem but have no solution. The US Air Force once promised "air dominance". That promise evaporated without fan fair and without comment. How do we get ADA to a point to where we control the skies? I guess every freaking vehicle in the force needs to have anti-air capability. There is no other way.

I hate to be the one that doubts but American shipyards won't be able to do it. Neither will European shipyards if we bring them aboard. We have to turn east towards especially S. Korea and maybe Japan to get high tech ships into the water in the timeframe quoted. Currently our yards just can't handle the load.

Weds Debate. If the US can attack Venezuela, Iran and soon Cuba why can't China rightfully assault Taiwan?

Taiwan appears to be the flashpoint for the US vs China coming war.

But why?

I get it. Microchips. An ally. Defeating communism and all that jazz.

But really break it down.

We attacked Venezuela. We're crossing swords with Iran. President Trump is indicating that Cuba will be next.

So how can we claim the moral high ground by claiming that Taiwan is off limits? Because they're an ally? Really? Iran appears to be at least loosely affiliated with China if not a direct partner. Same could have been said about Venezuela.

The quick and easy response is that global politics isn't about morality but instead about economics. Offshoring of chip production from Taiwan is already in process. So that kinda takes that off the table. If anything once the threat of China reclaiming that island became severe (about 10 or more years ago) a more reasonable response would have had us accelerating that movement to light speed.

This is just a debate subject and I'm not "all in" on giving Taiwan away but I just haven't really seen the justification for us spilling blood over that land.

Let me take it a step further.

Remember the Cuban missile crisis?

Lets fast forward that to today.

If China had a series of military base ringing the Gulf Of Mexico. If they regularly engaged in military exercises with say Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala and a few other countries what would our reaction be?

I'm not cheering for this or taking China's side. I just want the debate. I want to know what our foreign policy is actually based on.

I'll give a hint though.

Why do our leaders always pause when we're on the cusp of victory? Pakistan is AIDING IRAN! They've opened up a land bridge and are trying their best to keep a teetering regime from falling.

Iran is simply delaying things because WITHOUT the high price of oil caused by the dual blockade of the straits they have no other bullets.

With the help of the US Navy he was about to put them in a hurt locker. By backing off the escort mission he's giving them a way out.

A peace treaty is a fool's errand.

The reality?

We've been forced into being like the Israelis. We monitor the situation in Iran and if they get going with their nuclear ambitions we "mow the grass"...we bomb the shit out of them, rinse and repeat.

I haven't been in the camp of those claiming that the current war with Iran could cause a global depression BUT a recession? Yeah that's a distinct possibility.

I continue to be a little miffed by the lack of an end game in the planning for this war.

Certainly the DOD has used modeling to run the different scenarios and outcomes along with many variables that the Iranians could throw against us but since the end of active hostilities we seem to be floundering.

NOTE! Not the US military, but our decision makers seem to be lost in the woods.

Gas prices in Louisiana are over 4 dollars a gallon. I can't stand California but I imagine they're at least double the price.

Gas that high WILL lead to a recession. Gas that high WILL lead to an economic slowdown.

If people haven't pulled back yet they soon will.

War is politics. Economics is politics. Mid Terms are around the corner and this administration is running out of time.

Which is why the US Navy must embrace risk. They're escorting tankers and they should be prepared for one of those Burke Class Destroyers to get scuffed up a bit.

Maybe more than one. Additionally our air crews are gonna get stressed providing cover and sinking those Iranian fast boats.

We're headed toward nut cutting time and I'm not sure policy makers are ready for the bill that is coming.
