By rights we owe much to our French partners. While in keeping with their strategic goals at the time (they were trying to blunt British power) their help was none-the-less vital during the revolutionary war. Any Marine (former or active) will readily recognize the style of leadership found in the French Foreign Legion while the "laxity" (I say that with a smirk...they're sharp and motivated but definitely "joke and play" more than US forces) of the regular British forces is well ... different. South Central Louisiana got smashed

This is just regional news from my neck of the woods but South Central Louisiana got smashed by a weird, slow moving tropical storm.

My area was mostly spared. The earlier rans (lasted all week) were bad enough with flooding widespread. Some roads flooded but the damage was relatively (looking at it from the view of a person who's has was damaged) bearable.

Not the case for Avoyelles Parish. Its basically a farming community, with great hunting, fishing and the little festivals are freaking awesome. Plenty of bayous that are remarkably clear, quite scenic and make for a good sunday drive.

We're kinda different down here. Two lane roads are labeled as highways and for the most part well maintained.

The storm changed everything. You won't know the communities but I'll name them anyway. Cottonport was harmed with a couple of bayous rising so high that they flooded the highway leading there. Moreau had water so high (I never dreamed that it could flood to the extent that I saw) that the Sheriff's Dept was making water rescues in Air Boats and other watercraft. Marksville, the Parish Sea was basically shut down.

State Police, Game Wardens, Sheriff's Depts, Fire and other agencies stepped up hard and made a bad day somewhat better. Damage is widespread but I have yet to hear of loss of life.

Pray for all affected. Many are gonna have a hard time recovering.

Col Ripley has been an icon in the Marine Corps forver, Maj Capers achievement is also been lifted as an example to junior Marines (although from what I've read he was always considered a lion in the Recon/Force Recon community). They're more famous than Maj Dockery but if he research is action on his own "bad day" then you'll be equally in awe of hs actions. Did Trump just win the fight with Iran?

If you ask the Israelis apparently not. If you ask people that think like me then hell yeah.

Why?

Because we punished the regime, got rid of their leadership (more on that later...I'm not sure decapitation strikes actually achieve anything but a more chaotic situation for US, not the enemy) and for at least a minute united the Arab world against Iran.

The Israeli position is that we had the chance to rid ourselves of a persistent enemy that supports terrorist organizations, that they WILL violate this treaty and even worse we're funding more of the same.

The wild card for the world?

Closed straits mean high oil prices. I hope everyone knows that we never ran SHORT of oil, its just the price of available oil was causing pain and inflation worldwide.

That was the threat to the US, the EU, and maybe even China.

What does the future hold?

I think that the Saudis and company are gonna build pipelines like crazy. I think that once those are completed we're gonna have Iran part 2 and then we're gonna see the US and Israel attempt to remove Iran from the board.

The weird thing is that the line between tough leadership and abusive leadership is extremely thin. But let me add this. A review of command climate is well within the bounds and any leader should be able to withstand such an investigation.

These type vids have been floating around for years now.

I still don't know how to feel about it.

During Vietnam you had war protests. You had people actually hating US policy. But at the same time we still had a draft and the poor and middle classes still went to war for their country. The policy might have been jacked up but they still went when called.

Would it be the same way today?

I don't know.

Today we have a volunteer force. No conscription. Everyone that goes into the military does it because they want to.

But what if we were in a fight for the very existence of our country. What if every able bodied man was needed for that fight.

Would people still go?

I don't know. This is a different time with a population that has a different mindset.

I have those questions but the above vid still disturbs. Have you noticed something about these round-up gangs? They're in uniform but unmarked. No badges, no nametapes, nothing. They're having to assault these people to get them to comply. Additionally they (the majority) seem to be out of shape brutes that actually get off on this.

Is this something that is necessary? Maybe. Perhaps I'm being naive to think that there is another way.

Its still ugly though.

It makes me wonder if the guys that grab people ever get their time in the meatgrinder. Are they simply saved because of the job that they do? I think about the border guards on the borders of the EU. The firefighters and other first responders. YES THEY HAVE ESSENTIAL JOBS....but.....I'm off on a tangent.

I just don't know.
