Why Russia is not intervening in the Middle East Revolts?

The once super power of USSR has been shattered by the hammer of Gorbachev and the main dictator of the USSR, Russia has been reduced to a paper tiger, as Chairman Mao would put it.
Whether Gorby acted on his own or induced by the western powers to open the Pandoras box of Perestroika and Glasnost is now matter of academic interest.
Yelchin presided over the chaos and confusion and transferred power to Putin, who, with iron hand, brought the country under control.
But why he and now his protege, Medvedev are not taking part in the international conflicts, is a mystery.
Do they not want to be a super power again?
Or Communism, the inspiring idealogy gone, there is no motivation to play a dominant role in international affairs, leaving the USA to be the sole country to police the world?

CVC appointment - A constitutional shame

Thank God, we have the Supreme Court which has got the will and authority to stop wanten atrocities of the Government and deliver justice, which is nothing but common sense. A village panchayat would have dismissed the appointment after just one hour of hearing under the tree. It is such a common sense that a person, who is legally supect for two decades for garnering money in the import of palm oil when he was a government servant, should not at any cost be appointed to a highest post which has the responsibility of being vigilant and catch the wrong doers, scamsters.

That the UPA goverment chose not only to appoint such a man to the post of CVC but also defend the appointment in the highest court of the land, telling the stinking argument that 153 members of parliament are facing charges in the court-and still they are continueing as MPs - so why not another scam tainted man be appointed as the authority to stop scams-
is nothing but shaming the Constitution of India.

Revolution is OK as far as the purpose is achived. It cannot continue for ever. After the revolution, a system of governance and constitution has to be put in place, which shall be generally acceptable to all the sections of the society. That is the daunting task. During protests and revolution, the fervour of defiance of authority carries the mass movment. But after the dictator is thrown out, confusion, chaos may result in the absence of authority. How quickly the leaders of the revolution put together a governing council and establish law and order to allow normal life to go on is very important. There will be power struggles, may be violent to gain control of the governance.
Failure to return to normal life with establishment of law and order will result in attrition of violence which will lead to disappointment of the valiant people who struggled for independance.
So now how Egypt is going to form a government smoothly, fastly, effectively will encourage other nations revolting for freedom.
Failure to do it, will demoralise the people revolting for freedom.
The revolt in Lybia has turned violent with 8000 people killed by Qaddafi's forces with air strikes et all.
One must eulogise the bravery of the common people fighting the armed forces.
What Egypt does after throwing out the dictator is important motivation to people of Lybia revolting to throw out the dictator.

The meaning of marriage and legitimacy of polygamy & Polyandry

As per Hindu Philosophy (See the meaning in the link) marriage is the union based on the the sense of unity, intimacy and love between husband and wife.

Unity, intimacy and love need not be restricted to one person alone.
That is against natural instincts and feelings.

Lord Krishna, a Hindu God has16000 female companions and all Christians nuns are supposed to have been married to Jesus Christ as per the oath of nuns. Islam allows a man to marry upto 4 women subject to some conditions. The first two categories are for the sense of unity, love but not for physical intimacy. The third, of course, is for all the three purposes. What is good for Gods should be good for humans as well.

Similarly, going by the defenition found above, marriage need not be between people of opposite sex alone.
After all, sense of unity, intimacy and love can be developed between the same sex.
So does it mean that Hindu Dharma has foreseen the Gay and Lesbian marriages, now legalised in some countries?

A man can love many women - mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandma, grand daughter etc., for the sake of unity and love. The same is the case for women. Is this a basis for approving polygamy and polyandry?
After all polygamy was prevalent in India, even now it is practiced though forbidden by law. Draupadi had five husbands, of course all of them brothers, May be because of that there was no conflict. Draupadi bore children to all the husbands. Polyandry is also seen in some tribal communities. I have seen in Nigeria that many wives live in separate huts around the husbands hut and take turns in sleeping with him and feeding him.
There is no conflict between the wives. There is more fight and conflicts between one man - one wife union
than in polygamy.

Clearly it is time to revalue the institution of marriage in the raditional meaning.

The USA invaded Iraq in 2003 with strikes of surprise and awe, avowedly to destroy the WMDs that were supposed to have been hidden by Saddam Hussein. Now in hindsight, we all know what a skillful fabrication of grand lies that was, to give a false reason to the World, lecturing on the forums of the UN by Colin Powel, is to terminate a dictator who was opposed to the US and to get free access to Iraq's oil.

The US has now a better reason to invade Libya, that is to save the lives of people protesting for freedom of democracy. Not only the US will be seen as acting as the champion of Democracy but The US will get the bonus Libya's oil, that is 2% of world oil production.

But Barack Obama is not George Bush.
They are entirely different personalities.

Thoughts on Naraka Chaturthi

Today is Naraka Chathurthi – the day the terrible demon, Narakasura, who persecuted the people and killed them with impunity was, killed by GOD and relieved the people of the evil demon’s atrocities.

This is a Puranic story – undated – unlike Ramayan and Mahabharat which are supposed to have been enacted by real human beings, some 4000 to 6000 years back.

We celebrate this day as Deepavali – some say as per the wish of the demon – with lighting of diyas, lamps, firing crackers – may be to imitate the sound of weapons during the war between God and the Demon.

I was wondering at the the psychology of people which made them to celebrate an un-proven incident of victory, which can be read only in imaginative Puranas, with so much gaiety, colour, spending and joy, when the proven incident of Independence from the mean, looting English Demon, is to be observed – not celebrated - only in Government institutions, schools, almost by official force, and not by common citizens, who simply treat the Independance Day, as one of the paid holiday,

For all that matters, it is only 62 years back we got the Independence from the Demon of English rule, whereas it is – 5000 years back when we got the independance from the Demon of Narakasura.

That is an intriguing question bothering my mind for years.

This is also the case with Krihna Jayanthi, Ramnavami as compared to Ambedkar’s, Gandhi’s Jayanthi.

The simple answer is the former is Religious whereas the latter is historical, not associated with religion. The former is divine – associated with Gods – and the latter is just practical – associated with mortal humans. God’s acts are superior than humans’ acts.

But I am not satisfied by this simple answer.

Now the question is – why is it that we believe anything religious blindly and follow them, even though we know very well that these incidents are purely imaginative story telling and there is no compulsion to follow and practice them; but we show great apathy towards celebrating proven historical incidents which have given us concrete benefits, reliefs, which directly have affected our lives.

That, now, is the real question.

While the effort is laudable, the truth is different.

It is not the oil companies that are looting the public by the sky high petrol prices.
We all know that 54% of the bunk price of petrol and diesel is made up of various central and state taxes.
Customs duty and CVD on imported crude (12%) Excise duty on produced petrol (13%), Educational Cess on ED (2%)

sales tax by the state government (30%)
Actually the oil companies are loosing Rs.3 for every liter of petrol produced and sold.
The avowed reason given by the govts for keeping the taxes high is to curtail consumption so that our import bill for crude,
which at present is touching Rs.one Lakh crore, comes down.
But even with this high price, the consumption of POL is increasing by 15% per year.
Just look at the number of cars, SUVs , bikes sold per year.
The sales figures are mind boggling at 30% year-on-year increase.
(No wonder all the major automobile manufacturers are setting up manufacturing units in India.)

So, coming to point, what will happen if we do not buy petrol for one day?
The sales will drop by say 50% on 14th Feb.
But the most probable thing we would have done is, we would have purchased more petrol on the previous day,
or we will buy extra petrol on the next day, because, we are NOT curtailing our travel distance.

Instead what we should do is pledge to take public transport like bus or train for 4 days in a month.
Try car pooling for going in the same direction.
Share taxis and share autos are great Indian ideas to save money and thereby to save petrol and diesel.

Well, all the best for any effort to reduce consumption.

What are the loots and swindles he and his father have done for 40 long years,

The Middle East Conundram - Why the UN is not intervening?

The crackdown by armed forces on the protesters in Lybia results in 300 deaths, more injured.
In Bahrain, clashes between Shia protestors and Sunni supporters resulted in deaths.
In China, there is an early crackdown on the "JASMINE" revolt; there is a black out of internet news.
Everywhere, there is turmoil.

But I am not reading anything done by the UN to stop the killings and attacks on peaceful marchers.
Is it because the UN has a mandate only in International Conflicts and not on internal violence?
Or has the role of UN has been usurped by the USA?

The UN has only called for end of crackdown in Lybia, but no action taken.

I think that what is happening across countries in the Middle East is too serious and cannot be left only to these contries, but the International community has a responsibility to pressurose the regimes in stoppng the un-armed protesters.

Philanthropy of the rich Industrialist

Warren Buffet, the second richest man in the world is arriving in Bangalore for an Indian tour for raising money for his philanthrophic trust for which he has contribured millions of dollars.
So also the Bill gates.
I do not know how and where these billions are used. That is a different thing.

But What I used to wonder is why our Indian super rich Industrialists, the Ambanis, The Goenkas, the Birlas, the Tatas, the Jindals and Chettiars are not inclined to spend for the people of India, at least a part of their great wealth, accumulated by doing business in India.

I read about Mukesh Ambanis fabulous mansion, yacht, cars etc, which reeks of super rich owning thousands of crores of rupees.
What is their mentality? Dont they think about the poverty of their country? Dont they feel that they have to do some help to the poor of the nation?
After all he has become rich using the nations Oil & Gas, Cotton, land, labour and other raw materials.

I know only of Azim Premzi of WIPRO and Sudha Narayanamurthy of INFOSYS doing some social work.

What about the rest ?

Are they so selfish that they do not want to spend even 1% of their wealth for the poor?

No, in the long run.

The totalitarian regime can temporarily end the demonstrations for democracy, but the fire will only ignite more minds with anger of the violent reprisals.
Refer the news item in New York Times, 18th Feb 2011, which cries out that - Lybian crackdown ends with many dead and also the crackdown in Bahrain has only aggravated the situation.
The worst thing to happen is to pit the regime's loyalists to combat the protesters on the streets violently, thus escaping the responsibility of killings.
Tianenmensquare was different, a single isolated incident which was quelled with violence by closed Communist Totalitarian Chinese regime on which the International pressure does not have any influence.
The mental paradigm has changed now.
It is not a single fire; it is a wild fire spreading fast through International borders.

The only way is to engage the revolters in purposeful and sincere peace talks and assuage their feelings,
buy time and find an amicable solution acceptable to all.

Well, that is not an easy task.

Scams and Corruption - Is it inevitable in a Coalition Government?

I was shocked to read in the Newspapers the statement of Indian Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh, meaning that the various scams involving Billions of Dollars (1 US dollar=45 Indian rupees) by the ministers, officials and private companies, now rocking the nation, are inevitable in a coalition government - by what he calls the Coalition Dharma (path). He concedes that he is not able to do what he wants to do.

That is the worst to come from the PM of the Greatest Democracy in the world.
It is too bad that we have such government which cannot govern.
Instead, I would rathar, not have such popular government.
I wish the country goes to Presidents Rule, pending another election.

Dr.Singh is a top class economist, But he is a poor administrator-politician. Instead of pleading helplessness and being a party to his own ministers robbing the nation, he should prevent and expose such ministers, sack them or atleast threaten them to mend their ways; telling that he will otherwise call for dissolution of the government and call for fresh elections which every MP, MLA, minister is dead scared of.

AB Vajpayee also headed a coalition government of 26 parties.
He effectively used this threat of dissolution to control and contain and discipline the ministers belonging to various parties. Vajpayee is a top class politician.
Coalition Dharma does not mean that the Government should allow the coalition partners to armtwist the Prime Minister to keep silent while robbing and stealing and stashing billions into Swiss Bank accounts.

On the other hand, he should find ways of controlling the erring ministers, companies.
Afterall he is the one fully and finally responsible for the country.

So finally the CIA has done it again.

Egypt is going to totter from benevolent dictatorship to Military rule to Taliban type rule. The Russian revolution was taken over by the communists. The mighty USSR has been reduced to petty states ruled by criminals. Iran is in a state in misery as far as the Aam Admi is concerned. Common man's lot has only worsened with coming of democracy. In China, the party has given over to military black marketers. The only bright spot in this changing scenario is unification of the two Germanys and a stable political system.

Mankind's future is bleak. Some light seems to be emerging in India but the Pak-China-Taliban axis will not let democracy take firm roots in India. Scams increase when the bogey of Pak/China-Taliban is raised. It seems that the third law of thermodynamics prevails. Just as the universe is degenerating by conversion of matter into energy (entropy increase), similarly the Aam Admi is being ground into slavery.

The more things change, the more they remain the same!!!!

Justice, Equality and Fraternity is giving way to Might is Right, Honesty only amongst and for thieves and rule by the crooked!

El Baradei has called the ouster of Hosni Mubarak's 30 years of Dictatorship as the Liberatin of Egypt.
That is true and we have seen the power of people through a peaceful revolution.

The army has taken over the country and sacked the upper and lower houses.

It will be most unfortunate if Egypt is transferred from one type of dictatorship (Hosni Mubarak) to another type (The Army). History has shown that whwnever the army takes power, it does not transfer power to the elected government as a matter of continuation.
Even if it does, it is only in the name but the real control is kept with the Army.
The classic example of this is the case of Pakistan, changing power form Army to Zulficar Ali Bhutto, Nawaz Sharieff. The army generals again took back the control keepin the PM and the President as stooges of the army. General Musharraf outlawed Nawaz Sharief. Benazir Bhutto was assasinated. Her husband Zardhari became the President but the Army and the ISI calls the shots.

So the jubilation of the downfall of Hosni Mubarak does not automatically mean that Egypt will get wan it wants - A true free and just democracy like that of India.

That possibility cannot be taken for granted.

May be one more revolution is required to get rid of the Army rule.
If that happens, it will be a violent one, not like the peaceful one that is happening now.

I hope it does not happen.

I hope Barack Obama, Medvedev, Hu Jintao are reading this.

Genesis of terrorism

What is terrorism as we understand?

It is the violent methods adopted by a group of people for their cause.

We have Islamic terrorism (Taliban) Maoist terrorism (CPML) Religious Terrorism (Hanuman Sena) Racist terrorism (Zionism) Linguistic terrorim (LTTE) regional terrorism (AASU) Sovereign terrorism (Somalia), Separatist terrorism (Kashmir, Palestine,Chhechhnia), and so on...

What is terrorism to one group is struggle, revolution for the other group

Terrorism is the violent expression of impotant anger triggered by injustice.
It is generated by aggression, suppression, cruelty, usurping of land, country.

There is a reason for each case of terrorism.
Palestine, Kashmir for Islamic terrorism.
Poverty and hunger for Maoist terrorism.
Linguistic injustice for Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and so on..

Terrorism cannot be ended permanantly by violent reaction.
It can be ended only by sincerely addressing and removing the root cause for the terrorism.

Failure to do this will, one day or other, result in mass uprising like that in Egypt in a tsunami of peoples' anger.

I hope the powers that be will come to their senses to understand this historic truth.

Very well put. The only solution lies in reducing consumption of petrol and in fact all fossil fuels. much more use of solar energy is inevitable.

I think that we as experienced elder intellectuals should rise and raise our voices against all the muck and ruck, cheat and deceit,
agression and suppression, stupidity and superstition, corruption and nepotism, religious intolerance, violence and killings,
wars and genocides that are now threatening the peaceful existance of human kind.
One may or may not accept the principle and practice of Taliban, Shariat, Islam or any other religion.
But we, as highly educated and highly experienced elders of the society have an onerous task and voluntary duty to rid the society of
all the above chronic deseases so that the future will be a peaceful planet for our children and their children.

What will happen if we do not do it is happening now in Egypt, Tunisia, Syria and waiting to happen in
Myanmar, Kingdoms of the Mid East of African Nations, China, North Vietnam etc.,

The Sabarimala Devaswam, administering the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala in Kerala state of India, have answered to the High Court of the State, on their questioning whether the Makarajothi, a ball of light emerging at the horizon of the distant mountain at 14th of January every year, known as the Makara Jothi meaning the Light of Makara, when the sun enters the house of Makara during the winter soltice, is a divine phenomena as claimed by the priests and widely believed to be so for hundreds of years, a phenomena which, by its Divine nature pulls millions of believers to visit that Ayyappa temple, or is it a man made light,
that it IS a man made light, shattering the belief which existed for 100s of years, thus bringing the question of credibility of claims of not only this temple but also the entire gamut of religious believes, faith of not only contemporary origin but also the proclamations of priests, oracles, scripts, missionaries, fakirs, swamies about divine phenomena taking place as evidence of the existance and power of the supernatural beings such as God.

This raises the question whether the concept of God as a super natural being, Omniscient, Omnipresent and Omnipotent, capable of controlling your life, bringing good or bad things for the devoties, is mearely a concept formulated by vested interests to deceive, cheat, hoodwink, brainwash the masses to follow the ministrations of the Priests, Brahmins, Oracles.

This is not a small matter which is to be brushed aside by superstitious, stupid, sheepish minds, but a matter which profoundly affects the rationality of the rituals and beliefs of religion by millions of masses.

Do not know about the paintings circulated but Hitler did attempt admission in the Arts Academy Of Vienna. Below write up is from his biography in Wikipedia: -

On 21

December 1907, Hitler's mother died of breast cancer at age 47. Ordered by a court in Linz, Hitler gave his share of the orphans' benefits to his sister Paula. When he was 21, he inherited money from an aunt. He struggled as a painter in Vienna, copying scenes from postcards and selling his paintings to merchants and tourists. After being rejected a second time by the Academy of Arts, Hitler ran out of money. In 1909, he lived in a shelter for the homeless. By 1910, he had settled into a house for poor working men on Meldemannstraße. Another resident of the house, Reinhold Hanisch, sold Hitler's paintings until the two men had a bitter falling-out.^[28]

He did create modern Germany. The Autobahn and Volkswagen car Company are two examples. The German Chemical industry is another example.

All dictators build. Like Stalin transformed a backward Russia into a first rate world power. The Chinese military industrialists who have transformed lotus eaters into a power more mighty than Russia or USA.

Not the dictators of India like the Nehru Gandhi dynasty or of Pakistan, the powerful military hydra head, ISI.
