A dedicated public health professional, Diane was on a CDC 3-week assignment to improve Haitian HIV/AIDS programs when the earthquake struck on January 12, 2010.

Diane’s reasons for going to Haiti were typical of the rest of her life – helping others, traveling to new and exciting places, and pursuing personal growth opportunities. Her optimism, sharp intellect, adventurous spirit, and infectious smile touched all who knew her.

Diane died while in service to her country, public health, and the great people of Haiti.

I did not know her personally, but I feel eternally connected to her spirit. Her death reminds me that one day I will die, too.

I wish to die in the remarkable image and respect of a heroine much like Diane did.

According to those who knew her personally, she exemplified the zest for life and improving the lives of others much I aspire to do.

One day I plan to travel to a foreign land to heal and uplift those in need. I admire Diane's quest to Haiti. She went to Haiti were characteristic of her deep commitment to helping others.

She left earth on a mission.-A mission of hope and faith.

In 2009, she won the Atlanta Federal Employee of the Year Award in the Outstanding Professional. I am happy that she received recognition for her work before she died. At least now, her effort will live on beyond her short days on Earth.

Today, the relief efforts are still not adequate. What would I attempt if I knew that I could not fail? I would raise enough capital to rebuild that nation and help its people.

People have helped tremendously. People will continue to help greatly. People are people. Give, care, heal, help, share, adopt, grow, create.......for Haiti.

Although, I have not traveled to Haiti myself I know a few natives. I pray for you and your families. I feel connected to the struggle and plight of the people.

Haiti is a land that must be rebuilt by its own people. Reclaim your land.

Life is change. The rise of Haiti ( and other nations who are impoverished) is immiment. You will rise. Believe, trust, and know that you will rise.

Photo Caption: Diane Caves with child. If workers are wasting time at work, we should rethink the work hours.

Why do we need 8 hours each day? Who thought about this idea? What will it take to change this norm in America?

Who defines production? Well, companies of course.
Hmmm, I think we need to re-evaluate what we produce in our jobs but also how employers approach work life.

This issue runs deep into the culture of the work force and need for work life balance. Wow, what a ride! I am very grateful to have had the experiences, challenges, and opportunities that this life has presented to me along the journey.
`
From age 19-29, I accomplished great things, to name a few ( in no particular order):

Graduating with honors....earned two degrees

Managed youth and communications programs

Started a consulting business

Founding a non profit organization

I am accomplished but my journey only gains momentum from here. I feel that I have great momentum and I am poised to take my life goals to the next level.

30 (Thirty) Tips Learned During My Twenties:
1. Age is only a number...be young and feel your best each day
2. 30 is TWENTY years younger than 50!
3. TWENTY something is now OVERRATED!
4. Take at least 30 minutes of time each day for yourself.
5. Spend at least 30 minutes each day reading and learning something new.
6. Spend at least 30 minutes a day exercising, meditating, or doing yoga.
7. You can completely turn your life around in less than 30 days.
8. Pause 30 seconds before responding to an irrate person or before you say something you might regret.
9. Celebrate your life.
10. Find a space that nurtures you back. Everyone needs support, encouragement, and great relationships.
11. 30 is NOT the new 20! It's BEYOND Twenty!
12. Everyone in your circle does not deserve a front row seat along your journey. Assign seats accordingly.
13. 30 dollars a day saved in 30 days is 900! 900 x 12=10800 a year.
14. 30 close friends is unrealistic, just find 3 people you can trust and who will support your dreams!
15. Go confidently, face your fears, and never give up.
16. Act boldly. Act Now.
17. Life is what you make it. Make it work for you.
18. Wear your success bracelet each day. Goal is diamond. Focus is golden. Execution is platinum.
19. Never keep learning.
20. Happiness is the key to life. Find ways to be happy every day.
21. Family time ranks higher than social time.
22. Discover your life's purpose and work each day to fulfill it.
23. Hire help. You cannot do it all by yourself-stop multi-tasking.
24. Admit your mistakes and act with integrity to improve yourself in order to grow/learn.
25. Forgive.
26. Pray.
27. Learn to meditate.
28. Express gratitude constantly for blessings big and small.
29. Execute plan A. Do not think about failing or the need for Plan B.
30. Laugh more. Enjoy life....it's a joyous journey.
Copyrighted 2009 TDS

A superior man writes his own destiny. Michael, you have written your own book of life-one that is translated in many languages, tongues, and dialects.
But your spirit, beneficently brought harmony to white and black, good and bad, right and wrong.

You have imprinted a permanent star upon the hearts minds and spirits of millions that will outlive every living generation.

You were an amazing spirit, who will outshine all those who may have contributed to your decline, ill-fate, and digression.

I wish you had people around you that you could truly trust. But it seems as if you where surrounded by people with ill-motives.

Be that as it may, your day has set to night. Darkness ensues. But know that you were born to be a multi-faceted icon. Wow! What a destiny! What a responsibility!

God has a golden plan for you. 50 years, two months shy of 51...on the horizon of arousing shock. Your exit is like the cauldron.

Your life symbolizes the energy and nourishment of the Earth. Thank you for your contribution to humanity.

You will always live...you are eternal.
