Bank of America receives $20 billion from US government and $118 billion worth of guarantees against bad assets.

The funding will tally the troubled bank's fund that it incurred when it bought Merrill Lynch.

Shares in Bank of America fell 17.5% on Thursday as the banking sector took a hit.

The US Treasury said "Aim of the scheme is to encourage financial market stability and hence to strengthen the economy and protect jobs in America ".The deal guarantees residential and commercial mortgage investments, derivatives and corporate debt.

In return for the aid, the bank must meet strict restrictions on executive pay.

Bank of America's problems hiked when it decided to take over Merrill Lynch, another US banking giant fell victim to the global crisis.

Bank of America underestimated the levels of debt it was taking on as a result of the deal.Bank of America's management just went into an acquisition of Merrill Lynch and now need aid.

Apple CEO Jobs announces medical leave

Casting a pall over one of the world's most closely watched companies, Steve Jobs, chief executive of Apple, said on Wednesday that he was taking a leave of absence because of health concerns.

Jobs wrote in a letter to Apple employees, released after the markets closed, that he had learned over the last week that his health problems were "more complex" than he originally thought. He said he planned to return to Apple at the end of June and in the meantime would hand day-to-day control of Apple over to Timothy Cook, its longtime chief operating officer.

Jobs, 53, wrote that curiosity about his health continued "to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well." He said he would maintain the chief executive title and stay involved in major strategic decisions.

Jobs offered no new details about the cause of his health problems. In a letter last week that was meant to calm fears about his condition, he said a "hormonal imbalance" was robbing his body of proteins and causing him to lose weight. Jobs recovered from pancreatic cancer after surgery in 2004, but has appeared unusually gaunt at recent appearances.

Two people who are familiar with Jobs' current medical treatment said he was not suffering from a recurrence of cancer, but a condition that was preventing his body from absorbing food. Doctors have also advised him to cut down on stress, which may be making the problem worse, these people said.

An Apple spokesman, Steve Dowling, said the company had no comment beyond Jobs' letter.

Apple shares dropped sharply in after-hours trading after the release of the letter, losing $5.63, or 6.6 percent, to $79.70. The stock fell 2.71 percent in regular trading amid a broad market slump.

In June, when Jobs appeared strikingly thin at a company conference for programmers, an Apple spokeswoman said he was recovering from a "common bug." Soon afterward, Jobs acknowledged to the New York Times that he was suffering from digestive difficulties related to a surgical procedure he had as part of his cancer treatment.

Then last week, Jobs sought to calm speculation about his withdrawal from his regular keynote speech at the annual Macworld conference by acknowledging he had a "hormonal imbalance."

"The letter last week pretty much tried to reassure people that his health condition was extremely minor, but obviously it is more serious than first thought," said Ryan Jacob, founder of the Los Angeles-based Jacob Internet Fund, which owns a stake in Apple. "It's disturbing."

Some shareholders and analysts have expressed frustration with the trickle of news coming from Apple about Jobs' health.

For most companies, such information is not crucial because they are not so closely associated with one person. But Apple may be an exception. Since he co-founded Apple in 1976, and particularly since he returned to it in 1997 after a decade-long absence, Jobs has been inextricably linked to the company and its brand.

Over the past eight years, he has, seemingly single-handedly, powered Apple back to the forefront of the technology industry. Apple has sold 180 million iPod music players, and over the past year, it has sold more than 20 million units of its slender iPhone.

But Jobs does not run Apple alone, and now at least one of his deputies will get a moment in the sun. Cook joined Apple in 1998 from the computer maker Compaq and is responsible for the company's manufacturing and sales operations.

By all accounts, Cook does not have the long-term vision or showmanship of Jobs, who appears capable of peering around corners into the future of technology, and can whip crowds into a frenzy merely by taking something new out of his pocket.

That is why analysts and shareholders saw so much portent in Jobs' 170-word letter.

"These are times where you reflect about what Steve Jobs means for the company," said Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray. "At the end of the day, investors need to come to grips with the reality of a post-Steve Jobs world. This is the most urgent wake-up call they have had."

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love.

Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment.

When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.

Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said,
"Richness, can you take me with you?"
Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!"
"I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.

How to enable Wampserver when Oracle Agent is Running

First of all both Wampserver and Oracle Sql PLus utilises the same web server Apache .Since you have installed both the oracle and the wampserver suite .. it means that you have installed Apache Web Server two times .

The one which is installed recently will be working fine and the firstly installed suite will not work since it will be disabled by the recently installed suite.

Or else the Oracle will work fine since the oracle agent and the oracle HTTP server will be activated while booting . Since wampserver is activated only when th developer starts it , it will show that the wampserver is offline in the quick launch toolbar .

For rectifying this problem,Do the following steps:-

Step 1:

Start the Wampserver and wait for the wampserver icon to launch in the quick launch toolbar.Then click on the icon anselect -> localhost.

Step 2:

Step 1 results in the following page.

Step 3:

Oracle 10g Database, Oracle 9i, Oracle 11g, Oracle 11i & Oracle R12 Student Guides.

Now select the following Wampserver icon -> Apache ->httpd.conf

Step 4:

Now the httpd.conf file opens ,then search for the text listen and then change the port no Listen 80 to

ip address:8080

Step 5:

Now restart the wampserver and click put online if the below screen is displayed.

Step 6:

If that doesnt work out, do this and stop the Oracle services which are automatic as shown below..

Step 7:

Then repeat the step 5 .Then click on the icon anselect -> localhost.

Lizard helps type 2 diabetics to produce insulin

Most diabetics have difficult with an unending cycle of ill health, obesity and weakness obesity as the pancreas produce little or no insulin, the hormone that converts glucose to energy. Plus, diabetic drugs usually make the patient obese, which adds to the risk of high BP, heart problems and strokes. So it's essential to have drugs which control sugar levels and reduce weight.

And that's what a new drug, Byetta, does, say experts. It's made from the saliva of the Gila monster, a venomous lizard from Southwest America. It's the first in a new range of anti-diabetic medicines and is FDA-approved too. However, it can be used only on Type 2 diabetics.

Unlike Type 1 diabetes where there's no insulin secretion, in Type 2, insulin production from the beta cells of the pancreas isn't sufficient. And for Byetta to work, viable beta cells are needed, says Dr Ambrish Mithal, senior endocrinologist, Apollo Hospital, Delhi.

It works in three ways: It signals the pancreas to make the right amount of insulin after a meal; stops the liver from making too much glucose when the body does not need it, reduces appetite and the amount of food eaten and slows the rate at which glucose leaves the stomach.

Type 2 diabetics form 90% of the estimated 40 million diabetic cases in India. Almost 80% of them are obese, says Mithal. Adds Dr Pradeep Talwalkar, professor, diabetology, Raheja Hospital, Mumbai. "It suppresses rise in sugar levels by suppressing glucogon, a hormone which has the opposite effect of insulin."

"Byetta" says Mithal, "can produce nausea and vomiting in some patients. It is a niche drug, not for all diabetics, but is a good choice for those who need to lose weight with high post-meal blood sugar rises that remain uncontrolled even on oral medicines."

"Byetta also carries a lower risk than insulin of causing hypoglycemia, a dangerous condition where the patient can lose consciousness and slip into coma as insulin drops to very low levels," says Talwalkar.

Wig's case is an ideal example. "I was not judicious about my medicines and kept oscillating between oral medicines and insulin. Meanwhile, my weight and sugar levels went for a toss till I started taking Byetta," he says.

It's important for obese diabetics to lose weight, says Chennai-based Dr A Ramachandran, president, India Diabetics Research Foundation, as obesity makes them resistant to diabetic treatment. "It is, in fact, an analog for hormones which produce insulin called incretin." A weight reduction of 5-6 kg a year is good, says Mithal. Byetta is normally given with oral medicines.

But it's expensive — around Rs 7,500 monthly. Rimi Dasgupta, a 41-year-old diabetic, who lost 12 kg and with sugar levels which came down to 140 mg/dl from 390 mg/dl, says, "It's easy to inject, but I don't know how long I can take it as it's expensive. I hope to continue it for a year."

Byetta comes in a prefilled injection pen which uses a small needle. This pen contains pre-measured doses, so the patient doesn't have to adjust the dose. It's injected twice daily before morning and evening meals.

Generally, the patient is started off on a dose of 5 micrograms (mcg) twice a day for at least 30 days, but this could be increased to 10 mcg based on individual results. In clinical trials, it was found that on an average, patients lost five pounds in 30 weeks. However, Byetta cannot be used simply for weight reduction.

Though there are other new medicines which stimulate the pancreas to make insulin without producing hypoglycemia such as Januvia and Glavus, says Ramachandran, these don't make a patient lose weight.

Byetta could just be that shot that makes a difference.

My dream became real when i woke up from my bed

My dream became real when i woke up from my bed

It was heavily pouring outside at 24:00. I went to bed and started dreaming since I was not feeling sleepy. Then the adventure started it was even more pouring heavily .This happened the day when the Mumbai terror attack happened. I dint sleep till 2:00 pm I was dreaming about the terror attack for a while and switched over to Chennai dream where I lived .Now I started dreaming about rain ……

Now w’ll go into the dream …..it is pouring heavily ,the “kuvam” rivers began to overflow. The water level rises in the areas near my house.Since my house is constructed in a high level area so there is no chance of water coming innnn.. I now became the hero of the city and constructed a boat of my own and started rowing in the floody places and helped people from getting out of water and dropping them at safe places.

Back to real world , me heading to rest room i was not able to continue my dream without letting my water out …I dint know that it even added some water to ..???

Again came back and I resume my dream ,… I started once again with the dream I just missed few scenes in my dream …. Directly received an award from the Governor of the place for helping the public …..

Soon .. I slept with the award in my hand… after sometime I changed my sleeping position and left my hand hanging freely from my bed and fingers touching the floor , kept my face on the corner of the bed . Sometime later I felt my fingers sinking like a ship … there after I started dreaming about titanic gal “kate winslet”.

Few hours later , I got a heavy blow on my back .. but it isn’t dream this time it was real blow from my mom ,… asking me to get up from my bed and clear the things from the floor…. Don’t take it in a wrong sense ….

At last I realized the “Floody Friday “ has struck ,took my pillow from the floor and kept it on the bed and started shifting my things upstairs to my cousin’s house .When I came out and saw my place I was stunned ….. glimpsing a boat outside my house ,,, ma neighbors too were stunned after seeing me in my undies …. Quickly I returned wearing a trouser .I was happy th

at flood dint affect my house that much … when I saw my neighbors shifting there things in chest level water Fortunately it dint rain after that. If it does I would h

ave not in a position to share this …

Hi this is suvin prathab, studied in chinmaya vidyalaya...Every body miss there school days .......but if i say ... some people tell .. this is too much....but every one feels it inside ... u get ur best friends ,hve best times , first punishment there first award, first wound, first failure ,first success, first crush (gals,teachers),first fight ,first kethu and so on .. fortunately i too had all those kinda of things. Here im gonna write those cute little things tat i rembember which happened to me starting from LKG till Twelth.

Actually im a twin ma bro's name is lavin prathab ,ma best chaps are senthil,bhargav,prasanth ,tg karthik,anand ,nitin,sai prasad,rahul,sudarshan and the list goes on.... I have many interesting incidents that happened in schooldays ... one of them was .... first one is Ma Kethu incident ... it was a inter school kho-kho match and it was ma debut match ..first three of ma team mates entered the field we were to run and the opposite team has to catch ... so may say ...dull game ... but for me it is one of the most interesting games i hve ever played and the most cheapest game ... if the game is promoted well then the game will become popular... i love games and sports(my interest)

Now all the 3 of my team mates hve been caught by the Vs team . Next 3 players me one among them entered the field ..ma first entry ... i was tensed within .. but i was cool outside ... i was standing in the field cooly the opposite team were concentrating in catching the other 2 ignoring me .Atlast i was running they were chasing me .. .i dodged them faked them with my cool movements ... some one in from the audian gave me nick name "COOL SUVIN " .They encouraged me a lot .... atlast some recognised me before no one knows me ... This is end of my first incident ....

Chinese women 'want more babies'

The authorities in China say they have found that most Chinese women would like to have more than one child.

Family-planning officials say their research indicates that 70% of women want to have two babies or more.

Chinese couples who ignore China's strict one-child policy must pay fines and often face discrimination at work.

The authorities say the policy, which will not be relaxed, has prevented hundreds of millions of births and has helped to make people wealthier.

The research was conducted in 2006 but has only been released now.

China has the world's biggest population, of more than 1.3 billion people, and has restricted most families to one child since the late 1970s.

Little emperors

The China Daily reported the survey results, which showed parents would like a son and a daughter, at least.

"Our research shows that 70.7 percent of women would like to have two or more babies," the China Daily quoted Jiang Fan, vice-minister of the National Family Planning Commission, as saying.

Most women, or 83 percent, want a son and a daughter, the survey said.

"Some mothers think only-children suffer from loneliness and can become spoiled," the minister was quoted as saying.

Magazine editor Lin Ying, 26, told the newspaper she wanted to have two children in the next five years.

"Only-children often grow up to be self-centred," she was quoted as saying.

The many only children of China have earned the nickname of "little emperors" for the love and treats lavished upon them.

Despite the survey results, the commission said China would achieve its goal to keep its population within 1.36 billion by the end of next year.

"China's family planning policy underpins the country's economy and demographics," Li Bin, minister of the commission, was quoted as saying.

China's one-child policy has been hugely controversial at home and abroad, as enforcement of it has involved forced abortions and other abuses.

It has also been blamed for a gender imbalance, as a traditional preference for boys has persuaded some parents to abort girl foetuses.

Intel reports sharp profit drop

Slowing spending on computers saw Intel profits fall by 90% from $2.3bn to $234m (£159.6m) in the last three months of 2008.

Sales at the world's fourth largest chip maker slumped 23% to $8.2bn in line with the warning the firm gave earlier this month.

And it forecast sales of just $7bn billion in the first quarter of 2009.

IT departments are being cautious while domestic users think twice before buying new computers, analysts say.

The growing popularity of smaller netbook computers, which use lower profit margin processor chips, is also having an impact on the firm's takings.

Plans impeded

Intel shares rose 2.1% in after-hours trading with investors relieved the results were no worse than feared.

The severity of the drop was driven in part by a $1bn writedown in the value of Intel's investment in Clearwire Corp.

Clearwire works on a new type of wireless broadband that Intel is building into its chips - but there are fears that the credit crunch will impede its business plans.

Aayirathil Oruvan a Selvaragavan Film

Aayirathil Oruvan is an upcoming (2008) film directed by Selvaraghavan, who has already impressed the audience with his flicks like Kadhal Kondein, 7g Rainbow Coloney and Pudhupettai.. Karthik the Paruyhiveeran star is the lead role in the film, pairing with Minnalae star Reema Sen . Director com writer com actor Parthiban acts in a guest role as does Andrea Jeremiah. The story and screen play are penned by the director himself. The music section is doned by G.V Prakash, who has replaced Yuvan in the midst of the film.

The shooting of film has been stalled following the differences between the director and the producer. The film had an uninterrupted shoot of 40 days in Kerala. The film was being shot at Adhirampalli forests in Kerala. Selva had initially quoted a budget of 6 crores on a first copy basis. Later, he reportedly told the producer Ravindran that the budget might go up to 8 crores. However, Selvaraghavan then stalled the ongoing shoot in Kerala, rushed to Chennai and told the producer that the final budget might be as high as 16 crores. In addition to this, unit members say that they have not been given any pay for the Kerala shoot

Actor-writer-director Parthiban is known for his offbeat approach in his films no matter if he is directing or starring in it. His latest venture to hit the screens happens to be Aayirathil Oruvan. Parthiban, when asked about the long delay that this project had been experiencing, said that he knew AO>

Parthiban said that he would wield the megaphone for the film titled Viththagan. He added that he is still scouting for a suitable heroine for the film.
Selvaraghavan, who so maintained silence about his upcoming movie 'Aayirathil Oruvan', has opened his mouth for the first time. ' I selected Karthi for the role even before the release of Paruthi Veeran. He dons the role of a youth, who is very different from others. Playing opposite him is Reema Sen, who is tailor-made to her character in the film.' According to him, the movie will be unique and different, quiet reflecting its title.
Adding more, Selva says,'This is the next step in my career. I have been shaping up the film in such a way to satisfy myself as well as the audience. I need Rs 30 crore to finish Aayirathil Oruvan in an convincing way.'

Actress Reema Sen has denied reports that appeared in a section of media that director Selvaraghavan has been putting more pressure on the cast of Aayirathil Oruvan demanding better performances from them.

How to Troubleshoot a Computer

Before calling technical service and paying for "help," take a look at your computer yourself. A little common sense may help you solve simple hardware and software problems.

Step1

Restart the computer. Many software problems will correct themselves when you do.

Step2

Check your cables. Keyboard not working? Make sure it's plugged in. Mouse not responding? Make sure it's plugged in.

Step3

Check the electric power. Plug a lamp into the same power outlet that's connected to your computer to make sure the outlet is working.

Step4

Make sure the computer and monitor are plugged in.

Step5

Disconnect peripheral devices (such as a printer or external Zip disk) and restart the computer.

Step6

Listen for unusual sounds. Is the cooling fan running? Is the hard drive making noises?

Step7

Look inside the computer for wires that aren't plugged in all the way or other faulty connections.

Step8

Start the computer from an external start-up disk, such as the system software CD that came with your computer.
