Rachael Leigh Cook will be guesting as an old (and apparently way more popular) high school pal of Melinda's who enlists the Whisperer when a former classmate dies.

The ghost is manipulating blood in the OR with Ryan and Melinda tells him he has to figure out who would want to be torturing him and why. Melinda has help from a young man named Eli, who also can talk to ghosts.

CBS Announce Fall Dates

CBS announced its fall launch dates, including an early premiere for the 17th edition of "Survivor."

"Survivor: Gabon" -- the series' first cycle to be shot in high definition -- will debut Thursday, Sept. 18. This is the seventh year that CBS has rolled out "Survivor" a week before the rest of its shows.

The bulk of CBS' schedule will debut during the traditional September premiere week, or just after. The show times are unchanged from the schedule CBS unveiled during its upfront presentation in May.

The network's Monday comedies, including the series debut of "Worst Week," will return Sept. 22, along with "CSI: Miami."

"NCIS," freshman drama "The Mentalist" and "Without a Trace" (on its new night) will premiere Sept. 23.

The network's new Wednesday night comedy hour including "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Project Gary" premieres Sept. 24, as well as "Criminal Minds" and "CSI: NY."

CBS' Friday block of "Ghost Whisperer," new drama "The Ex List" and "Numb3rs" debuts Oct. 3.

Thursday night crime dramas "CSI" and freshman series "Eleventh Hour" premiere Oct. 9.

A shrink survives a fire in his office and when Melinda and Jim go to the hospital to visit him, they see him talking to what Melinda realizes is a ghost. She has to break the news to him that the patient died in the fire and he was talking to her ghost. After speaking with him, Melinda visits the young woman's roommates and learns some interesting facts about what the injured man told her and more importantly, did not tell her. Melinda, Jim and Delia eat at a Chinese restaurant, where Ned is a waiter and serves them.

Ghost Whisperer - Jamie Kennedy joins cast

Jamie Kennedy is joining the cast of the CBS drama "Ghost Whisperer" as a regular.

On "Ghost," which returns for a fourth season in the fall, Kennedy will play Eli, a graduate student in psychology at the local university who forms a bond with Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt).

Kennedy, repped by Paradigm, fills the void left by the upcoming departure of Jay Mohr.

Mohr, who had been a regular on "Ghost" for the past two seasons as Professor Rick Payne, is expected to appear on the first couple of episodes when his character, Payne, will go on sabbatical.

Mohr will segue full time to his new series for CBS, the comedy "Project Gary," on which he plays the title character.

HIGHLIGHTS

* Without a Trace is moving to Tuesdays; the new series The Eleventh Hour will take over WAT's plum Thursday 10 p.m. slot.
* The New Adventures of Old Christine is moving over to Wednesday to anchoring a new comedy hour alongside Jay Mohr's Project Gary.
* Moonlight's old time slot goes to The Ex List (formerly known as Mythological Ex), the new rom-com from Veronica Mars writer Diane Ruggiero.
* The Unit is moving to Sundays at 10 after Cold Case.

Melinda's father is alive and in the hospital after trying to shoot himself in the head. Her brother Gabriel also comes to visit her. A ghost is inhabiting other people's bodies, trying to talk to the important people in his life. Even Delia notices something strange going on. The ghost warns Melinda that they (the ones that aren't crossing over) are getting stronger and that she is getting weaker. He even warns Beth, a woman in Melinda's father's life, who acts to Melinda like she doesn't care about the man.
