I gave them another exercise - A story of two best friends whose friendship got into trouble one day and how they resolved it, was told to them.
Only half of the story was narrated to children, leaving them at a very important part – they had to imagine the remaining part of the story and bring it to an appropriate end.

In addition to all such exercises, they were given guidelines on- How to describe - a scenario, how the people look, how they dress, their expressions, how to plan the plot.. and so on....

After little bit of Research on GLOBAL WARMING I introduced sessions on how to write a book…

For that I gave them a little exercise…in which they have to plot the characters in small small stories.

Exercise 1:

From this exercise they will learn a lot… like how to write a story?? How to describe a character???What important things they should consider while writing…
Let’s see the outcome now…

In between children were also helped with motivational sessions since the burden of school and exams increased.

How we Started ?

We began with understanding – how any type of story is written. We started with short stories and ended with fiction books.

For a long time we habituated ourselves(Me and children) to read a lot and understand how things, places, characters, ideas, and emotions are described.
Then we did many writing exercises, worksheets and spontaneous stories and dramas.

Then came the most important part ………..

WHAT IS Global Warming???

Did they study it in their school??? Why is it important and what is causing it???

This part of information was researched from Websites, books, teachers and subject experts from CEE A’bad , Science City and GEER foundation, Gandhinagar.
By the end of the year we had collected enough on theory.
It was time for documentary and movies power point presentations that gave us a visual idea on the effects of global warming.

Humans and animals had just regained their places in the life circle. They are learning and discovering new ways to live with fewer resources, when suddenly a pair of discoverers unearth a strange skeleton which is unlike any creature that they have ever seen. Uncovering the existence of this creature is of vital importance, which forces them to visit their past (our present) only to realize how their ancestors (we) lived…..

How do you plan a Science fiction involving children and their imagination??? Science fiction is assumed to be most difficult to write in the line of literature.

In any process of Aaryam’s activity the main focus is on the child’s inner development. The latest concept of multiple intelligences was incorporated in the process of thinking and scripting the whole science fiction book.(attach a authorized link of MI)

Multiple intelligences is a new concept now introduced in many recognized schools in their curricular activities. Though very few parents are actually aware of MI Concept, it involves developing not only academic intelligence but also those which are ingrained in the child.

A project was planned based on 3 fundamental ideas ...to script a science fiction book - develop other areas of intelligence in the children and ultimately create awareness on the crucial Topic – conservation of environment in the society.

The Project was explained to the parents of Aaryam students and they happily agreed for a long term commitment.

From all the 9 MI's, this project could imbibe the following Intelligence during its complete process.

Spatial
Interpersonal
Intra personal
Logical
Verbal linguistic
Naturalist
Existential

It was totally a new way of learning in which we used mediums and methods like..

Encyclopedia, different story books
Internet
Show educational or related movies
Use different paper activities/worksheets
Meeting and discussing own thoughts and questions with experts like scientists, publishers, environmentalists etc…
Having brain storming sessions within team- thinking on logical possibilities, learning human behavior, to develop and introduce a character, to express ideas and emotions in writing, using a variety of words and synonyms.
Holding an Awareness Art Competition, and managing the event.
Convince people.

How we started….

In summer 2009, as part of a summer workshop, I began making up my own stories and telling them to kids. During this time... a storyline sparked in my mind. I could clearly see the bright beginning of a gripping science fiction when I started telling this story to kids. The idea grew stronger in my mind seeing enthusiastic response of Aaryam students …. I found it rather unusual and very imaginative. I decided to work on this idea but not alone…. I wanted to it to grow with the involvement of Children.

Our DIDI Told us on the last class that we were meeting a Young scientist the next day. We were anxious to meet the scientist, Thinking how they looked like and what they did ?

Niyanta didi arrived to class. A young – engineering student! we couldn’t believe. But we found her wonderful!

She had won CHILD-SCIENTIST AWARD for the project on HEALTHY FOOD. And she many times had been part of research related to Global warming in the Jungle Areas of Dharampur.

Watch us experiment and experience the current warming situation on the earth .

After two informative Presentations on The Subject of GLOBAL WARMING, Vrajeshbhaiya , who is a science student , Gave each of us some experiments to perform . IN a week’s time we were to write our daily observations on our experiment paper.

Our green leaf, Soggy bread and Water Freezing experiments were reviewed by Vrajesh bhaiya and Didi. we observed the different effects the CO₂and heat can cause to different objects.

We felt like we were actually Scientists like our characters in the book! It was Wonderful!

For our project, we did not just meet all scientist and environmentalists but we contacted laymen around the world.

After preparing a list of questions, we made our first visit to science city, a place for Science lovers. We met many enthu visitors, science and geography teachers, people from the space centre, A Zoologist from GEER Foundation.

We made our second visit to Crossword. The crossword Manager and staff were supportive in our mission .we interviewed Few doctors, professors, a Lady from Brazil, A house wife few children and crossword staff as well.

We recorded good lot of basic information in our mp3.Now we knew what people think for the occurrence of WARMING and probable effects it might bring on all living beings of earth. We are using some of the ideas from PUBLIC in our Fiction.

Art Competition Held by Aaryam -At Seva Cafe:

Seva café is a wonderful place! Situated on the brightly lit CG road of Ahmedabad. It works in evenings by devoted youngsters on the heartily concept ‘Atithi Devo Bhavah’ . Young volunteers serve food with love, to All those 50 people who walks into café between 7pm to 9pm.

This café has also been a lovely venue for many novel experiments that our Didi and We Aaryans decide to put forth.

One Saturday evening of summer , we planned an Art Competition for the visitors of Seva café. Topic was– GLOBAL WARMING with slogan - ‘WE ARE AWAKE, ARE YOU?’

We were readily waiting with papers, pencils, colours for ON THE SPOT Participants at café, Aaryam Badges hanging on our chest, feeling proud and nervous both. Sandeep Bhai Who Manages activities in café Managed To Call Café Staff For Our First Speech.

Soon Ideas and creativity filled the air. We excitedly moved from table to table-serving pencils and colours.

All age café visitors joined us in our MISSION-Global Warming. We could collect about 60 colourfull pages. We selected three best ideas from all and organised a prize distribution ceremony.

It remained Another fulfilled experience to share with all – we learned to talk to strangers and spread our message for Global warming, we gained confidence , faced audience, learned to convince others and also to plan and manage an event, from publicizing to prize distribution.

Educational Visit for 'GLOBAL WARMING PROJECT': Geer Foundation

3rd july 10,
Aaryam’s young author’s team visited GEER FOUNDATON ‘s at INDRODA Ganghinagar. It is the ecology and research centre .they have many departments to study. It was planned by our didi ,With the idea to figure out the deep answers on how actually our scientists and researchers work minutely on the tiniest parts of nature. As we entered We were welcomed by Mr. Alap Pandit , waiting to show us the whole institution . watch us interect with the senior most environment scientist, research scieintists(who work deeply in the team with scientist), A botanist, etc. they were asked many questions by Aaryam’s team on environment science and how they study it which were answered sincerely rather enthusiastically, by them.we also visited their various labs in details so that we get exact ideas when we need to describe it in our science fiction book .
It remained a very informative trip to GEER FOUNDATION. though we missed the dinosaur park, due to lack of time. We THANK the director of the Foundation for showing interest in our project. And to Mr. Alap Pandit who had been a very keen host for Us.
well! let me tell you ,we have all scientific characters featured in our book .Our main characters are researching , over some mysterious part of environment. For more details u must read the book when it is published. Till then keep yourself updating right at the blog!
