10 Years Without Glenn Frey

January 18, 2026. It's been 10 years since the day we lost Glenn Frey.

The world has changed in many ways, but one thing that hasn't changed is how much we miss him. We still have his music and his memory, but we miss *him.*

I wish we could post about this on The Border forum, but it has had a catastrophic malfunction and I haven't been able to restore it. I haven't given up, but I was unable to resolve it before today, despite my best efforts. However, if you'd like, you can always leave a comment on the blog.

As we all celebrate Glenn's life today, I thought it might be fun to focus on some aspects of his career. We always talk about his music, but how about his acting? It was seven years ago today - January 18 - that we lost Glenn Frey.

As always, on this day, I like to pause and take some extra time to reflect on just how amazing he was, and how his legacy still thrives now that he's gone. His music continues to be a part of people's everyday lives all around the world; his voice is woven into the fabric of modern culture. He left a deep and lasting imprint on this world not only as a musician, but also as a person. He was "one of the good ones."

I'm going to pull out the Above the Clouds collection and give it a listen as well as watch the accompanying Strange Weather: Live in Dublin DVD, and I'll be celebrating Glenn Frey today.

A remixed, considerably shortened version of "Part of Me, Part of You" is available as a digital download on Amazon.

It brings forward instrumentation and some backing vocals; it removes the following verse and the bridge/chorus/almost all of the outro after it: "I look at you; your whole life stands before you. I look at me and I'm running out of time. Time has brought us here to share these moments - to look for something we may never find."

Six years isn't some "landmark year" like five years but it doesn't matter. January 18th still hits hard.

I just try to approach it as a day to remember not his death but his life, to remember what a special person he was, to remember how not only his talent but also his personal contributions made our lives better and made the world better.

Glenn Frey will always be Part of Me, Part of You.

On a brutal Monday in 2016, we lost Glenn Frey. 5 years later, it's another Monday, and I think about that day. 5 years. I guess this is a "milestone"? In a way, it's just another number, but it feels different. More intense.

So, this year, we're making a special thread on the message board to celebrate Glenn's life. Feel free to visit if you'd like a little extra comfort today.

But regardless, as long as we remember, as long as his music echoes in our souls, he's never really gone - be it 5 years later, or 50.

Hello, November 6th. We meet again!

Glenn would have been 72 today.

I associate the number "72" more with the Eagles' first album's run up the charts than with an age when it comes to Glenn Frey.

I've been playing that album and a few more today to celebrate him, and I'll be drinking a toast as well.

At the risk of being trite, I hope all the Glenn fans out there are taking it easy in these troubled times.

It's November 6th, 2019. Whenever this day rolls around now, the first thing I think is "Glenn would have been...."

This year it would have been 71.

And I think about the ways we can celebrate the man by remembering him and all he gave us, especially on the day he was born into this world.

One thing I'm definitely doing today: listening to my Glenn Frey / Eagles playlist that covers the entirety of his epic career.

Today would have been Glenn's 70th birthday. It's hard to wrap one's head around that.

70 is the age that, to me at least, is when a person officially hits the "old" category.

They may not act old or feel old. The headspace is certainly more important that any number. In all the meaningful ways, they may not be old. If they're really lucky, they may not even look old. However, strictly in terms of age... when they have to check the box that says 70-79 on forms, they have hit the old folks category.

And Glenn never made it there.

I'll be thinking about him a lot today, and I won't be the only one. There will be people thinking of him today especially around the globe. He affected so many with his music.

As we do, we all have to remember the lyrics of that prescient song, "It's Your World Now," and its admonition of "No tears allowed." We must focus on celebrating his life.

So, let's make it a happy 70th birthday, for Glenn.

For the second anniversary of Glenn's death, I've decided to do the updating that I should have done while he was alive... but I just got so busy with my job that the site took a backseat. I regret that, but now at least this site can be an archive to honor him.

I've added a page for the After Hours tour - an archive of the dates, information about the setlist and musicians, and links to fan reviews.

Also, I've added photos... lots of photos.

Royal Oak Names Street After Glenn Frey; Ceremony Feb. 18

Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, Timothy B. Schmit, and Joe Walsh will all participate in a tribute to Glenn at the Grammys on February 15. Jackson Browne will also be performing with them. The Grammys will be televised live on CBS, so we can all see it as it happens.

I am sorry to say that Glenn Frey has passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016.

Prayers for his family and all of us who love him so very much.

He changed my life, just like he did so many others. There are a lot of hearts broken tonight.

This is the message from the Eagles website:

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of husband, best friend, father, comrade, and Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016.

Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.

The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery.

Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.
