Hello my people!!

Merry Christmas!!! And HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Woohooo!!!
Yes, so it has been ages since my last post! Very much has happened in my life since then. And I can be nothing but grateful for every single event- the ups as well as the downs.

The highlight?: Definitely having the opportunity to spend time in Nigeria! The weather was…. SIMPLY PERFECT!

A lowlight?: Probably having a falling out with a good friend. One of the hardest things to do is watch someone you care about walk away.

NEW YEAR CHECK IN

It is 2012!!! Shocking!! NO teleport machines or hovering cars!! *sigh*. Just a bunch of expectations and resolutions we feel the need to carry into the new year… every year!

By this time of the year (February), some people have already long forgotten their years goals and resolution. The gym seems a little further away, the book seems a little thicker, and the library seems a little more boring than it was on January 1st! lol. It happens to the best of us! We get lazy and/or complacent.

I just wasted to take a moment to say Do Not Give up!!
I actually accomplished one of my 2011 resolutions in the last month of December 2011. And it couldn’t have happened at a better time!

Strive for what you want!
Create what you need!
Reach for what you deserve!
Get what you can imagine!
And above all things.. Don’t give up!

OHHHHH- and Denzel Washington movie comes out on Friday!!! SAFE HOUSE! Wooohoooo!!! Eeek! And WHHAAAAT---→ the Twilight Saga is not over yet!!!??? SMH! (This is me TV…watching)….

My Birthday woes...

Hello Readers,

Its that time again; the moment I have to stand completely naked infront of the mirror and ask myself…. Where did all this extra skin, rolls, and wrinkles come from? I know damn well that I didn’t look like that last year!! Or… yesterday!

Yes, another year has past. And as always, I force myself to look back at what I have done, where I have come from, and what I am yet to do.

Every year, around this time, my birthday seems to come wrapped up in anxiety and packaged in emotion (excitement, dread, anticipation, confusion, hope, fear, worry, sadness, etc.). What did I not feel is the question? Forced to think back and evaluate a period of life that is gone forever. The evaluation process has been in affect throughout the week before my birthday. Sooo on the weekend (of September 24^th) I pretty much had a nervous breakdown and became slightly catatonic….. THEN…

On Monday Nervous break down still in session – Realized I would soon be aging… officially.

On Tuesday Anxiety at a high – I remember the grey hair I discovered on the weekend *Gaaaasp

On Wednesday I decided to be active and take precautions- Bought more Anti Wrinkle creams.

On Thursday I had to talk to someone- Sent my mom and a good friend a text. My good friend reminded me on something very important… *Paraphrased * - “Sometimes we spent too much time thinking about what we have not done in life and forget to be thankful for the things we have already done”

On Friday I am getting my balance back. Made some decisions and will follow through.

After all that unnecessary stress and distress, I realize a few things:

1) I have accomplished many goals this year

2) I am soo grateful for the people I have met and the experiences I have had

3) The next step is up!

4) This year will be better than the one that is passing.

5) And at the end of the day… that all I want for my birthday… is a day at the spa and a bubble bath!

PS: Im writing more this year! Yup!

When I say Goodbye, I say Hello

Hello readers,

Yes I know it has been a long time! So very much as happened since last time I blogged. And I remain grateful to Life, Family, and Friendship.

The other day, I was deep in thought about all the things I had to say "Goodbye" to in the last few months. And how many things I had to literally place outside of my life and physically close the door to. Such things include- people, thoughts, ideas, feelings; essentially all those things that brought me negativity. As a result- My valued relationships, esteem, mind set, and world view have improved only after simply choosing to say "Goodbye".

The truth is, every Goodbye (Be it a thought, a person, a thing) is difficult because it requires a Parting away from.. a loss. It creates an empty space where that item once rested. We, as humans, fear this feeling of emptiness. We fear the unknown. If I choose to change one aspect of my life and there is nothing for me to fall back on- not only do I experience a feeling of loss, I also begin to panic because of my uncertainties (of how to now proceed, and the future).

W. Shakespeare once wrote:
"Parting is such sweet Sorrow"

The "Sweet" part comes in the aftermath. Only once a Parting/Goodbye has be executed can something new be formed and built. Saying "Goodbye" gives you the privilege of saying "Hello". It opens space for so much potential, possibility, newness, success, the list goes on!-

-Say Goodbye to that Unsatisfactory job…. and Hello to a Dream career.
-Goodbye to that Negative relationship…. Hello to a Wholesome/nourishing one.
-Goodbye to thoughts of Worry and fear…. Hello to thoughts of Hope and peace.
-Goodbye to the idea that "I should" "I must" "I am not" "I need to control"
"I need them to do this" "I wonder what they think about me"
-And say Hello to "I AM" and "I choose happiness"

Before any type of progress (be it personal, business, relationship, family) is made - a parting of old ways is required. #Fact- Newness needs place to live, but it can not live in a life that is already full.

Happy Easter Everyone,

It has been a long time... I suppose you could say I had a lot going on.. ok.. fine, I have no major excuse really. lol. But as they say, better late than never. :)

Moving on....

This month I have learned many lessons on gratitude. Gratefulness is not just a great virtue; it is critical and beneficial in this life.

-A Grateful Attitude-

What do you have? Who are you? Who are you not? Where have you come from?
Those are all questions we can ask ourselves and be thankful about the answers we discover. They say count your blessings. And we quickly uncover that there are uncountable blessings we experience on a daily basis. Life, food, air, friends, family, our abilities, our skills, freedoms, privileges, etc... The list goes on and on and...

In everything we must find gratitude.

Gratitude is the only way we can live a productive, progressive, and positive life. I truly believe that being thankful of what you have now/who you are now- *at this very moment* is the key to betterment.

Even in those hard/bad/difficult situations you must find the good and be thankful for those things. Of course it may be harder said than done. But it must be done!! If its simply saying "I am thankful that I have learned from that experience" "I am so thankful that I overcame/survived that experience and can now move on" Gratefulness for any experience allows you to accept that the experience happened and allows us to let it go. Think about how profound that is.
I remember saying on twitter once (paraphrased): - "Priceless- The moment you know what someones purpose in your life was" And it was priceless because, although myself and the individual are no longer on speaking terms, I was able to find the good it added to my life. And almost instantly- I let all animosity go and was soon able to move forward.

Try it! Count your blessings and be grateful for all that you have/are!

What are you waiting on??

The other day one of my lady friends and I were indoors relaxing on a cold Saturday afternoon. We started talking about some of our dreams and aspirations. I told her some things I wanted to do but just never got to... but planned to start soon.
She looked at me with almost an angry expression on her face and yelled "WHAT the HECK are you waiting for??"

I did a quick *side-eyes*, thought for a second.... smiled.... and said "emm I donno... a sign" (or something of that nature!)
Fact was/is that I have no idea what I was really waiting for. What kind of sign?
Some of us spend too much time sitting around and taking no active role in our future or attempts to reach some goals.

Maybe I was hoping for God to send a burning bush my way to tell me exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. Maybe I just hoped to be discovered- that someone would just come my way and tell me that "I was born for this". Or maybe I thought my destiny would just land on my lap #Gbam!

But nope.... none of that happens, or at least it shouldnt be expected.
If anything is to happen... you gotto start making moves.

Sooo.... instead of spending all this time inactive, watching tv, watching my life go by, and hoping for a sign.... think its best if I take things into my own hands.
So that... at least if that magic moment or burning bush ever happens... ill be ready!

I challenge myself... and everyone I meet.... to spend (AT LEAST) 2 hours a week working on their skills or towards something they want to do in the future.

The only sure thing in this Life is Death! It is as sure and as real as the air we breath. We expect it like an anticipated gift and we fear it like a reoccurring nightmare. The very thought of losing someone, a loved one- reaches to the deepest parts of the heart. The idea that they (their body, their mind, their soul) will no longer walk the earth like they did just but moments ago - is unimaginable. No words can truly describe. No river can fully contain the tears for those who have passed. Some sick, others taken, lost, sudden, mistakes, young, old, mothers, fathers, children....- all who left the world too soon. Before we wanted to say good bye....

I hold on to her memories like a secret treasure and it calms me. She was.. is.. beauty-intended in the form of a woman. Her very essence is reborn when my eyes close. I see strength, love, peace, joy, laughter, courage- that was how she lived.

As much as I want so much to curl up tight, eyes swollen from sorrow, heart aching from grief, mind frozen from chaos..... As much as it pains to find strength while others pass away so easily.

THEN- I remember life... I remember the living... I remember to live. Life is... beautiful.. yet short. We must: Live every single moment of it, taste every single part of it, touch every single gift in it. Speak, feel, make sure they know and feel your love. Before time runs out... for us... or another.

Put your Pros and Cons up!

Hello readers,

Now, I do think of myself as a reasonable person. Given any situation I tend to weigh the pros and the cons. I literally write down all the benefits and all the possible negatives of every given situation/relationship/and relation. This is done in order to limit Time-Wasted, drama, confusion, and problems. If the cons just slightly outweigh the pros, chances are that I will stop such activities/thoughts. And NO amount of pleading, encouragement, persuasion on anyone else’s part will change my mind.

Note: 1) I am self-admittedly stubborn (sue me!). 2) I just hate creating unnecessary headache for myself. Life is just wayyyy to short!

Occasionally though, I do act even though I see that the pros are clearly feeble. I convince myself that the negative/cons are not that bad or that I can handle them. One could say I ‘second-guess-myself’. Time and time again evidence has proved that my initial gut feeling was right. The result: I must deal with the consequences. Even though the results may not have been as bad as I thought it would be- time was STILL wasted and unnecessary energy was used up!

Of course there are some situations where one must act, even though the cons outweigh the pros by a landslide. For example: new investments, starting new businesses and ideas, and even in the development of some relationships. In these cases, the final benefit makes up for infinity cons.

That said, there can be grave reciprocation from ignoring known cons.

May I/we be granted the wisdom to differentiate...

I woke up this morning with a set of new eyes. A new outlook on this thing we call 'life'.

My mind also ran through all me "should have's", "What if's", "Shouldn't have's", "If I only knew's", "Why didn't I's" and "I wish I could have's"....
Then I realized that all those things, all yesterdays event are just that... 'Yesterdays events'. They may add to the combination of what makes me who I am, but they are NOT who I am. More important that making amends with those events, is making amends with I. And moving Myself on to tomorrow.

The Friendship-O-Meter

Lets talk about friends baby!

I was talking with a friend of mine about a friendship I was kind of unsure about. Our conversations lead me to think a little more deeply about friendship and the parties involved. Friendship is a delicate entity that requires active participation from both members (as with every relationship). The Friendship-O-Meter measures the amount/Quality of ‘friendship’ (which encompasses expectations from a friendship, as well as traits and characteristics of friendness: talking, sharing, spending time together.... etc). Here are a couple things I have learned about this meter:

1) The individual alone has full control of the meter. 2) The meter may fluctuate, but is always set at where the individual want it to be. 3) Two meters must be set at similar points for a friendship to work. 4)If there is a large difference in two meters, one party must adjust. 5) If meters are not adjusted (or accepted)- the friendship crashes and burns and one (or both) parties no longer derive satisfaction from the friendship.

Granted, we all have the God-given right to pick and choose our friendships and those we choose to cultivate. Its important to recognize where your meters are set for specific people and to acknowledge the efforts of others in their attempt to be a good friend to you. Again- you do not have to do anything you do not want... (*cough* Karma *cough lol.*).

That is pretty much all I need to say on this topic. It says a LOT! Please derive your own meaning. What I have learned (just from writing this): consciously treasure, grow, learn from, and cultivate those meaningful friendships where there is a similar Friendship-meter with. And leave the rest to be whatever it is! People are so very special.....

OK: So... Here is a little list of different type of friends....:
-The Always-And-Forever Friends, these are the TRUE friends that last. No matter how long it has been since you talked or how many disagreements you have had- it feels like you just saw them the day before and you love spending time together.

-The I’ll-See-You-When-I-See-You-Friends Now there are two sub-categories here: People who actually want to ‘see’ you, and those who really don’t. And in time- it will become VERY obvious which one you have.

-The Convenience-Friend: it just works out for your convenience and theres.

-The Common-Interest-Friend: You share a common interest and its pretty much all that binds you.

-The True-Blood-Friend: lol those people who just call when they want something from you (they can such you dry if they could!!).

-And of course, we cannot forget the classic Frienimy: those people who play friend when you are present, but talk bad about you behind your back. (NOTE: If one of your friends can do nothing but say horrible things about your next friend and quickly change faces when that particular friend walks into the room--- RUNNN! They are doing exactly the same thing to you!!

-The Bestie, The Party-Friend... And MUCH MUCH more....

Of course you may know a few people in your life that fit nicely within each category. And you may even clearly see where you fit in the lives of specific friends. Now, people can be moved from one ‘type’ of friend to another. At the end of the day- it all boils down to your Friendship-O-Meter and how far you are able/willing/wanting to move the dial.

Relationships are all about give and take. Gotta give a little to get a little. Gotta bless a little, to be blessed with little. Thats the ONLY way that 'little' can turn into 'more'. (MsMarcus)

Feeling Friendy!

Hello and good morning readers,

Today I am feeling friendy! I realize how many great and interesting people... friends I have around me. No, we may not always agree.... Yes, we have our differences.... Yes, we may annoy the heck out of each other!! But at the end of the day.... the truth is that these people who I choose to make Friendy with are so special and unique. We forgive and accept our friends just for who they are! (every inch of their crazy selves lol).

I want to take this moment to appreciate friends. The close ones, far ones, meaningful ones, even the lost ones, and ones we talk to on occasion. In general, we, as humans often overlook our friends and forget to appreciate them or show/tell them how great they are. We often overlook the good. Because, for some reason- its much easier to comment (and freak out) about a wrong (such as receiving bad service at a restaurant) than it is to acknowledge a simple good.

I find that most times when I try to do this (conciously acknowlege a friendship), some people can find it weird ..... simply perhaps because they are not used to it. Its about time we start letting people know what they mean to us!

To all my friends... I appreciate you so very much for who you are, all you've done, and for being there for me!. Oh and I wuv youuuu!!

Hope everyone is doing well. :-) Just had my last exam last night. It was ok I think. I am a little (aka very) nervous about my marks this semester. Took some courses I was not used to....
So, now we wait.....
Wait for marks, grades, the next move...

But instead of stressing, wondering, panicking over something I cannot control. There is nothing I can do to change or rush the proceedings.
Therefore.... lets simply relax, breath, smile, and PARTTYYY!!!

Good evening readers,

Today marks one of those days that my body decides to tell me stories of sad, dangerous, and enraging things; and I am reminded of just how much my body truly despises me. I lay in bed and cradle my core in hopes for some kind of freedom from the ache. I ingest the unknown capsules in hopes that its content will contact directly the cause of my affliction. sometimes.... sometimes... Sometimes ...

Today I transform into a bowl of melted emotions. My actions are no longer my own. My words fly outward, fast-tongued, with no restraint- as if in a fit of inner rage. Explode! My mistake... I didnt mean it... my mistake... agggg I hate you... agggg what did you just say?.... ahhhh why are you so annoying.... Get out of my face.... i just want to be by myself right now.... I just want you to hug me!... I said hug me! HUGGG Me!!!! ....... Today marks the day, the first day of mmmm 3-4 days of *sigh*! And all I want to say is.... "beware... beware" Beware of the wrath of a woman ...in period.

Food For Though!

I was deep in thought today. Thinking about people.... just in general. Friends, ex-friends, best friends, relationships in general. Without a doubt, humans are relational beings. We crave some kind of connection and togetherness (even if we don't admit it). Now- the merging of two different being/entities/compounds/personalities/spirits/lives is bound to lead to conflict/reactions/friction/disagreements/miss-communication/heartbreak/etc. So many issues come with human interaction. So wouldnt common sense tell us to simply keep our own company and drop all kinds of outside influence? At least I know what I am capable of and I know that I normally would care and would treat others (and self) with some kind of respect and care. But we keep friendships, we keep on making interactions. Truth is- without relationships we cannot grow, without people we cant see our weaknesses, and we can see some mountains as so much bigger than they truly are. At the end of the day- there are some great relationships that are life savers and so helpful. And for me- those out-weigh the negative ones.

I remember thinking a couple years back that if this world was filled with strictly Ms and Ms Marcus' (people with my own personality and mind) this world would just be so much happier! LOL!- Its a funny thought but Truth is- not everyone can truly say that!- They know that they would just mess the world up! lol. Anyway......

I believe everyone comes into our lives for a reason. Even if they exit our lives just as quickly as they entered and even if the interaction was simply full of negativity. I truly believe we learn and/or are made stronger by every human-human interaction. Even the worst, most pointless, stupid, interacations Ive had with someone- I can tell you the lesson I learned from it.

Fact (that I just made up right now): In general- if you know someone (interact with) for more than 24 hrs, they were in your life for a reason. This is not to say that someone you know for an 8 hr period cannot have some value in your life however.

I saw an interesting quote on this topic that I really had to stop and think about:

Yes I have noticed that many times my upset about someone's behaviour stem from the fact that I would be so willing to do the exact same thing (or more) for them.
People are different- and everyone probably holds some parts of this quote in their mind. We are not mind readers and we all have ideas about how you act when you care about someone. Truth is- these ideas do not always the same for everyone. This leaves others hurt and uncomfortable.
Thus is life!- Communication is key!

Everyone is living his/her own life.....

Question: If you help make someone's life slightly more positive with your presence in it- would you take it? If not- would you want other to help make your life slightly more positive?

Stay connected. Communicate. Value others, and learn lessons from those who choose to say good bye.

Who is my worst critic??

It has been a long time. What happened? Life is what happened, thats what!! School is what happened!! So many things to do not enough time! AAAhhhhh #sigh#..... Ok- I’m OVER it.....

And life, my friends,.... goes on.... (Despite us....). <-#FACT

Ok...

Lately I have been think about criticism. Not the constructive type (*raise eye brow*)..but the detrimental and malicious type. The type that makes you feel so low and re-run the words and feelings in your mind continuously throughout the day. I’m sure you all know what I speak of. When others criticize or judge your actions, words, and ideas (even the miss-communicated ones) it does hurt.

Now my motto, one which I have held and self-perfected, is the idea that “If you don’t have anything to say, don’t say anything at all”. And if you think about it- what exactly is the point? Now Im ALL for constructive criticism. If your friend is messing up and you know that she secretly knows deep inside that she is messing up- then yes I will be sure to bring it up- with her personal feelings/progression in mind. On the other hand- people who choose to be critical for critical sake have their own feelings in mind and their aim is to destroy the other (*be aware of these people). For such people- the satisfaction on making people feel sad and low is what they thrive on. I, and others like myself, do not need to be the cause of other peoples sorrow to make us feel better <-#FACT! Its a higher level of being folks!

Who is my worst critic?? (This is despite the fact I have chosen not to give other-negative-no good-people power over any mart of my life). My worst critic of all time is NOT Lola, Chinedu, David, or Scar.

My worst critic is much stronger than the 4 of them combined. My worst critic is: the one and only- the beautiful.... MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Me, Myself, and I, my thoughts, my unfair conclusions about myself have and can be so detrimental to my health and well being. THOUGHT: Even if everyone around me thinks I am the best most amazing thing since slice bread, and I win every award ever invented- but I am continually criticizing and hating myself- there is no way I will be happy or achieve personal peace or success ß#FACT. I have met some of the most beautiful and apparently put-together women who, once I got to know them, criticize themselves way too much (about physical and personal attributes) to be beneficial.

“I am stupid, sad, worthless, not smart, pathetic, I am this and that!” These are all phrases I have used and thought. And they are some of the worst criticisms people use on themselves daily/occasionally. Sometimes I allow myself to play these phrases in my mind- other times I catch them and kick them to the curb. The latter creating a better outcome.

My Point- Too often we are our own worst critics. We need to recognize this and stop these thoughts. Some of us would not allow other people to say most of the thing to us that we say to ourselves. So why do we say them to ourselves? Its time we say- “Though I am not perfect, I will be positive. And I can!” (PS: I myself definably need to be reminded of this truth!). There were so many times when I told myself I could not do something or did not have the ability to do something- then it turns out I could. So many times when I showed myself I was stronger than I told myself I was, wiser, happier, smarter, and ‘better’ than I gave myself credit for. Because of such criticism, some of my progress have been harder, longer to achieve, more strenuous, than if I had focused on the truth from the start. The truth being that I can!

A PLEDGE (I am taking it too!):

Today I pledge: to make a conscious effort to stop those negative ideas and criticisms I have of “myself” as soon as I recognize them. Instead, I will fill my mind and mouth with positive statements- “I am able, I am worthy, I am special, I am good, I am smart, I am positive, I am me, and I love me!!”

Take care people- and STOPPP all the unnecessary criticisms!

Hello blogger,

I have been slacking!!!! It has been too long!. I miss bloggerVille! I miss blogging! I have realized that the more blog-free days I have, the more I get used to it= the less I blog. So I have decided to make a conscious effort to blog regularly. A lot of things going on, new stories, a lot of thoughts ignited and opinions to express.

Things I luv\like right now (in the last 2 weeks):
-My ladies!!!
-Movies: Shutter Island and Coming to America
-Spring Time!!
-Sweat pants and Huddies
-Vanilla Oreo Cookies
-Strawberry Kiwi Fruitopia juice
-My baby pictures and family pictures from way WAYYYY back in the day
-New friends I met on Twitter (hugsssss)
-Talking to my brother on Skype
-Summer trip planning! (they shall come to pass)
-All my friends who are getting married and/or having babies! (happy times!!)
-The semester OVER! YESSSSSSS!!!!
-Friends and family!!
-Sleep and bed (as per usual).

Yeh that about covers it! Lol.
