Finishing up April and into May events

We only have one more event for April.
For the last Wednesday in April we will be having our lessons at Odd Fellows Monticello Lodge and it will be a Swing Clinic. Swing Clinics are great because it is a chance for some individualized attention with our instructors.

Then it is into May, and May is crazy. Some might even say it is Cray.Cray.
This months lesson series is Balboa Two and Solo Jazz Routines. Starting with Doin the Jive and then the Shim Sham if there is time. Balboa Two will have guest instructors Erica and Ryan from Richmond!

May 2014 we moved into the Greek Orthodox Church. We had a moving party, we danced to a live band, ton's of you showed up. It.was.awesome. So we have decided to recreate that fabulous night. May 6th 2015 we are having a year celebration party to Zuzu's Hot 5 AND IT IS FREE.

Since we won't be taking your money that week, when you come back on May 13th to continue your lessons it will still be 30. This will include May 20th special workshop and band.

May 14th we are bringing back blues. More details to be announced.

May 20th we will be bringing in Dan Repsch and Brenanna Perry to teach an awesome Lindy workshop followed by Perserverance Jazz Band. If you are coming just for this event it will be $15 for the workshop and the band.

The month finishes its self out with EITHER the Richmond Lindy Exchange (RLX) or Red Hot Blues and BBQ. So basically.... ALL THE DANCING ALL THE TIME. DANCE DANCE DANCE.

April Update!

So March was awesome with Bring on the Blues rocking so crazy hard. There were over 40 people dancing the night away at 4 am for the Saturday late night dance (So really Sunday). That's insane and tiring. And let's have that be the reason why this blog hasn't been updated.

The Crash course is April 23 and will be East Coast Swing. This will be an awesome introduction to partner dancing if you have never danced. If you are feeling comfortable in your primary dance role, crash courses are also a great place to try the other side. Learning the other role can really help your dancing ability.

The April Savoy is coming up on the 25th. It is Sock Hop themed, and it's going to be ridiculous and fun. Mike Herring is DJing and teaching.#gomike!
At the same time of our April Savoy a little event called "DCLX" is happening. http://www.dclx.org/
Basically that weekend is going to be dance crazy and ridiculously fun.

2015 is here, and SwingCville is making some great changes.

Live Music on 1st Wednesdays

Every first Wednesday we'll be offering live music at Cats Corner. We're kicking things off on January 7th with Zuzu's Hot Five.

Improved Curriculum and Teaching

We will be starting out the new year with Charleston II at 7:00pm, East Coast Swing I at 7:45pm, and as always Swing 101 at 8:30pm. We are doing instructor critiques, teacher training, and curriculum planning to improve the quality of lessons and series.

Jack & Jill at the Cville Savoy

For the first time, we will be hosting a Jack & Jill competition at the Cville Savoy! This is a great way for locals to try out competing on a small stage. Each Month we will have something new and interesting going on at the Cville Savoy.

Pricing Changes

In 2015 we are going to have to raise our prices slightly in order to continue offering all the great lessons and events you expect from SwingCville. The Swing 101 lesson and the dance on Wednesday nights will stay at $5, but the 7:00pm and 7:45pm lesson series will be increasing to $30/month. However, we are offering two incentives along with it. First, buying the lesson series gets you a free entry to the Crash Course on the 4th Thursday. Secondly, lesson series purchasers will get $5 off at the Cville Savoy on 4th Saturdays.

It's that time of year again for the annual SwingCville Holiday Party!

Yeah, it'll be like this.

We'll have our regular lessons from 7-9pm, then from 9-11pm we will have awesomely cheesy holiday swing music for your dancing pleasure! Feel free to bring baked goods and treats to share. (Please, no nuts, and all other allergens should be clearly marked. Thank you!)

Farewell to Oxbridge

This Wednesday we are taking a little field trip to Oxbridge Ballroom. This will be the last dance event at Oxbridge (next semester it's becoming an exercise facility - bleh) so come help us say farewell to this little gem of a ballroom. Parking will be a bit difficult, so be sure to plan ahead.

Swing Clinic

Want to see rapid improvement in your dancing? The best way is to get private lessons and have an hour of one-on-one training with an instructor. But that can be pricey and time consuming. A great alternative is our Swing Clinic! You'll get feedback and critiques from sets of instructors during the lesson as you rotate around the circle. Be sure to bring a notepad to take notes!

Space is limited, so it is recommended that you register ahead of time. You can pay via PayPal on our Swing Clinic page - it's only five dollars!

It's time once again for SwingCville's annual Halloween Party! This Saturday, October 25, will be a night of spooky swingouts, terrifying triple steps, and boogeyman blues.

4:30-6:30pm - Come out to the Glass Building (313 2nd St SE, Suite 108) and learn Michael Jackson's THRILLER. We'll be performing it later than evening at the dance. Also, please note the time change from our usual 5pm workshop.

7:30-8:30pm - Beginner lesson. Don't know how to dance? Trying to convince your zombie date to learn to dance? This is where you belong. Oddfellow's Monticello Lodge, 116 4th St NW

8:30-11:00pm - Halloween Party and Costume Competition at Oddfellows! DJ Erica Vess will be spinning here scariest tunes all night. Come dressed to impress, because the winners of the costume competition will win tickets to see Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox on Monday, Oct 27th.

Going Green!

During Cats Corner this month we're going green - no more red solo cups clogging up our trash cans! We are encouraging everyone to bring a water bottle, and we will still provide cold water to fill them up. If you absolutely must have a Red Solo Cup (they're so hip) they will be available at the front door for $1 each.

Learn the California Routine

The California Routine has a long and complicated history, but it's one of the most important pieces of choreography in the swing dance world. You'll see bits and pieces of it in almost every Lindy Hop performance.
