I used the 4th grade last year and loved it. Had to get the third grade since I moved down. Great words to help build student's repertoire of synonyms and antonyms. This will help them in reading as well as writing to banish the boring words.

Horrible recipes and missing or ingredients not completely listed. I grew up on 2nd Ave Delis chopped liver and wanted the recipe which is why I bought this book and the recipe is not only different from their original recipe but much different than the ingredients the owners wife used on our local TV station in NYC years ago.

Condolences to the family. The man who founded and ran the deli for years was murdered, never solved. The recipes look interesting and the ingredients don't have to be special ordered. A good cookbook. I am happy with the service and will order from these people again.

I never went to the Second Avenue Deli (being from Chicago originally) but many of my friends here in Florida grew up around it. They are thrilled that I will be recreating some of their favorite dishes from the book. I especially liked all the anecdotes from celebrities who also gave their family recipes. It's a book you just can't put down until the last page is read and then you run out for ingredients and start to cook. Loved it from cover to cover; from dish to dish. Thank you for the insight into an amazing man no one could forget.

As soon as I got the cookbook, " 2nd Ave Deli," I started to read it. Finished it the next day. What a history! Oy! It made me wish that I would have met Abe Lebewohl, such a fine example of an extraordinary person. His life touched so many people....As in many Jewish cookbooks, I love the story behind the recipe. This has that and more! With each recipe, the tradition continues.Each passed down from one person/generation to another. I hope to make them, "family recipes," in my home as well.Mazel tov for putting such an excellent cookbook together.

This book contains amazing, old school jewish recipes and stories from 2nd avenue deli, including the best recipe for chicken soup. I only wish they had included the recipes for challah and their tuna salad.

I miss the 2nd Ave Deli so much. So glad to know there is this book to keep the memory alive!

Love this book. Even if I don't make the recipes it is still a fun read.

Heâ€™s a scientist with a PhD in physics and an expert in fiber optics and lasers. Perhaps because of his unorthodox background Tian approaches the investing process in a scientific way, picking apart the strategies of successful investors to see how they work. Much of Invest Like a Guru â€“ and GuruFocus too, for that matter â€“ is focused on the strategies of wildly successful value investors such as Warren Buffett, Peter Lynch and Donald Yacktman.The dominant theme of the book is quality. Buffett famously said â€œItâ€™s far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price,â€ and Tian spends most of Invest Like a Guru expanding on that core idea. Chapter 6 is particularly useful as a 20-point checklist of criteria to look for when seeking out quality companies, including consistent profitability, capital efficiency and insider ownership.But while Invest Like a Guru is full of solid advice in what to look for in a stock, itâ€™s far more useful in telling you what to avoid. As a case in point, Tian dedicates a chapter to deep-value investing, and I personally consider this the most important chapter in the book. I myself have gotten suckered into deep-value plays in the past, and they rarely seem to work out as planned or on the timeframe I had hoped.Deep-value investing is what Warren Buffett called â€œbuying dollar bills for 40 centsâ€ earlier in his career. Later, he mostly eschewed the strategy, calling it â€œcigar-buttâ€ investing.The rationale is easy enough to understand: Itâ€™s hard to lose money buying a company that is worth more dead than alive. If a companyâ€™s net assets are worth significantly more than its current market price, management could sell off the company for spare parts and deliver a decent profit to shareholders. And generally, that would be the right move. Remember, if a stock is trading that cheaply, chances are good that it is a company with very deep problems.The problem is that it never quite works out that way. Monetizing assets is messy and complicated, and management has a vested interest in keeping the enterprise going. And the longer they do, the more value gets eroded.As a case in point, consider the case of Sears Holdings. Eddie Lampert and Bruce Berkowitz â€“ both respected value investors â€“ have effectively bet their careers on Sears in the belief that its real estate and brand portfolios represented massive untapped value. They problem is that the Sears retail business continues to deteriorate around them. They may eventually unlock the value they had hoped to, but it will have cost them dearly in money, reputational damage and â€“ perhaps most importantly â€“ opportunity cost. Had they focused their energies elsewhere, they might have made far better profits with far less headache.Buffett himself learned the same lesson with Berkshire Hathaway, which was a failing textile producer when Buffett originally bought it. Berkshire eventually failed, but only after Buffett had wasted untold time and energy (not to mention money) trying to keep it afloat. Buffett called his purchase of Berkshire Hathaway a â€œ$100 billion mistake.â€Tian finishes the chapter with the simple observation that â€œThere are better ways to make money.â€If youâ€™re new to value investing, I highly recommend Invest Like a Guru. But even if youâ€™re a seasoned investor, youâ€™ll find plenty of insightful food for thought. My compliments to Tian on a solid addition to the value investorâ€™s library.

I wish I had read this brilliant book ten years earlier! If I had, many of my investing mistakes during the past could have been avoided. Adding humor to cut and dried materials, Dr. Tian effectively used many metaphors so even a high school student can relate and follow. Dr. Charlie Tian has learned many valuable Value Investing lessons which he distills down in his wonderful book. I couldn't put it down and I finished it in a day. This is a quick read, but it's filled with a wealth of knowledge. Invest in your financial education and it will likely pay tremendous dividends. If you won't invest in yourself why should anyone invest in you. This book may be a stepping stone to help you "Invest like a Guru".

If you are new to investment world, you might find it useful. However you will get very limited new things from this book. In addition, the approach the author takes is very much financial statements driven, while he does not offer or pay attention to industry, company, products, strategy etc. The author constantly refers to his website. This is more like marketing material of his website promotion, less of a book about investment. Gurus do not simply and solely rely on numbers.

I've read a few investing books, and this is definitely one of the best.Very practical, to the point, and easy to understand. I agreed with lots of things Charlie mentioned in the book.I highly recommend it especially if you are a user of gurufocus.com.

Admittedly, I saw the title of this book and purchased it out of intrigue and skepticism.The author makes some good arguments about why some (maybe most) men are able to climb the career ladder. Without spoiling the book, I will say that I liked the emphasis on EQ, AI, and other methods that can be applied to select better leaders.The problems I had with the book are Chamorro-Premuzic's references to "science" studies and Freudian concepts. You'll see these pop up as you're reading, so be skeptical when the author make certain assertions as being concrete facts. Also, there are some over generalizations throughout.

This book is based on solid research (sorry, narcissists, I know you will not like the findings) and provides suggestions that can help organizations improve the quality of leadership. No, the solution in NOT just hiring and promoting more women - it is hiring and promoting competent, humble, teachable, and caring people. A must-read for any board, and all involved in hiring and promoting. Implementing these straightforward solutions will require discipline and commitment, but will result in stronger and better organizations.

Purchased after seeing the provocative title name; was not disappointed in the content of the book. The author challenges the traditional approach to leadership using SCIENCE and DATA. So refreshing. The chapters on confidence and charisma vs. competence are so timely and necessary. Everyone should read as we evaluate our 2020 presidential candidates. :)

The title caught my attention, particularly because it seemed to pander to things everyone already knows and is frustrated about. I wondered if that was all there was . Indeed. It is particularly troubling that books on leadership indulge themselves in cultivating contempt since the literature around what works in leadership would lead in the opposite direction. There do seem to be gender differences in the traits that contribute to effective leadership, and they do favor women, but they are not so sweeping as this author portrays. That all said, and particularly with so many abysmal male examples of inadequate leadership in the national and international news lately, I see why the book will likely sell well. Save your money for more substantial works, though, like Anderson and Adams newest title, Scaling Leadership. Their work is built on actionable research that covers the same ground, but without the obvious flaws.

According to Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, "This book explores a central question: What if these two observations -- that most leaders are bad and that most leaders are male -- are causally linked? In other words, would the prevalence of bad leadership decrease if fewer men, and more women, were in charge?"As he later explains, "it's not just gender bias that holds competent women back from leadership and allows incompetent men to float to the top. It's a fundamental disconnect between actual leadership talent and our assumptions about it. There is a world of difference between the personality traits and behaviors it takes to be [begin italics] chosen [end italics] and the traits and skills you need to [begin italics] be able [end italics] to lead effectively."Chamorro-Premuzic wrote this book in order to identify the key qualities that cause people to become incompetent leaders -- and, conversely, good leaders. The meager ROI is in large measure explained by what James O'Toole so aptly characterizes as "the ideology of comfort and the tyranny if custom." Sour old wine in new bottles still tastes like old wine.My take on all this is that the quality of an organization is best measured by the quality of its leaders. They must be carefully selected and then held accountable to much higher standards. I wholly agree with Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic: "Putting more women in leadership roles [who then act like incompetent men] does not necessarily improve the quality of leadership, whereas putting more talented leaders into leadership roles will increase the representation of women."Â

So adorable! The little books are perfect for my sons little hands. He is really loving his tiny books. They are quite simple but cute. The carrying case that they come in is awesome as well. My son packs up his books (or even without) and Carries his little "suitcase" around the house. What a great buy!ðŸ‘ðŸ»ðŸ™ˆ

I'm so happy I bought these, they have actually increased my 13month old's interest in books! She loves the short hbo Sesame Street shows and so these books definitely drew her interest. She likes the way they stack in their box and their perfect hand held size. She will sit and "read" them to herself, pointing at the pictures and often bringing them for me to read to her. My only complaint with them is that most of the books' content is a bit underwhelming. I also was bummed to see that the illustrations look different book to book. In my attached picture you'll see that the top one looks very authentic while the bottom book doesn't at all. Altogether though I'm happy with the set!

Although these books are very cute I am appalled at how easily they fall apar. I left one in the play yard with my one year old for no than 5 minutes and when I came in to check on her she had eaten a HUGE chunk out of the book! I was so worried I actually ended up calling poison control because she ingested so much of it. I couldnâ€™t believe how quickly they fell apart in a mouth with only 4 teeth. Maybe it was my fault for leaving her alone with it, but my daughter has plenty of board books sheâ€™s chewed on without so much as denting, so I didnâ€™t think this would be possible. I ended up giving the rest of mySet the my 3 year old, and he does enjoy them. Just exercise caution when considering giving these books to a teething toddler.

Wish i would have known these were so small, i bought for my 2 year old because she loves books, but these are so small and not alot of pages or pictures.

great deal. shipped fast. ugreat deal. shipped fast. We used these for Operation Christmas Child by Samaritans Purse. We ordered these as well as about 15 other bulk children's items. These items were great for either a boy or girl and good for the two younger age ranges. Its important to be careful when ordering items as some items are prohibited from being placed in the shoeboxes. Using products like these my wife and I were able to pack about 120 shoeboxes for less than $100.sed for operation christmas child shoeboxes.

These books are tiny, but that is what I liked about them. They are perfect for my 1.5 year old. He loves to carry them around and look at pictures and point to Elmo. They are easy for him to hold and getting 12 of them makes it easy to keep them in the car, in my purse, at grandma's etc. Maybe not great for an older child who has the patience to sit and listen to a story, or who is learning to read, but great for the little guys.

I bought these for my 20 month old. She loves them, they are just the right size for her little hands and the "stories" are just long enough to keep her attention. I love that I can toss a couple in my purse or the car to distract her when we're out shopping or eating. She will grab the box and say "open it" and climb up into our laps asking to read these, and she is now starting to memorize some of them.

There are only 5 spreads (10 inner pages) per book. Each spread has one page with a picture and one page with words, so each book contains only 5 pictures plus the cover. I would expect that a book for pre-readers would have more illustrations and less space taken up with words. The words could easily have been printed smaller at the top or bottom of the illustrated page and have illustrations on every page. My 16-month-old loves Elmo, Sesame Street, and books, but these little books do not hold her interest because there are not enough illustrations.

This was a gift so I can only review parts of this. Bright colors are great for little eyes. It's a carrying case (with a handle) filled with 12 small square thick cardboard books of favorite Sesame Street characters. They are each about 2x2. That's about as wide as a playing card and not quite a long.My nephew approved and if he becomes a book terror I think they will be able to withstand his wrath.

I'm a recertifying 642-813 CCNP. Here's my response from Cisco Certification Support for the obvious lack of mapping of questions from the CCNP Switch 300-115 exam to this Cisco "Official Certification Guide": "Exams could contain material that the courses or guides didn't cover so long as the exam items map to the blueprint." So read all you want, read this book cover to cover twice like I did; read command references; perform lab after lab on features you'll never implement; have many, many years of experience and still be hands-on, like I am, and you may very likely fail even after getting all the SIMs right.Apologies in advance--this may be more of a rant than a review. There are young engineers out there, and this subpar certification process is taking advantage of the consumer's desire to better themselves.From the book marketing materials: â€œenables you to succeed on the exam the first time and is the only self-study resource approved by Cisco.â€ Keep this in mind, and the fact that it doesnâ€™t mention luck anywhere, because you would need to be lucky for several questions that this book doesnâ€™t cover. Also keep in mind that since this is an official book with the vendor trademark on it, and itâ€™s for an exam you will pay for, so one really canâ€™t review this book and the marketing statement without also reviewing the exam itself to a degree.Note that there is more than one version of 300-115 test you can get on test day. From reading other reviews, I likely got the one that has folks angry based on focal points of that particular test, and I failed as wellâ€”by one question. I became even angrier when I tried to find the answers to questions on the test that I didnâ€™t know, and I didnâ€™t find them anywhere in this â€œofficialâ€ book. The questions (plural) that stumped me were NOT things I would have seen in a lab (I had no trouble with the Sims on the exam or with other practical hands-on related questions); in fact, three separate facts asked about in questions not covered in the book were small factoids that are buried in online documentation that I canâ€™t believe anyone would be reading in the first place, much less reading with a detail-oriented approach that you need for materials youâ€™ll be tested on. So that you can see the unfairness Iâ€™m talking about without blowing my NDA, hereâ€™s an example close to one on the test:Q: Dynamic Arp Inspection is configured on a switch port. To quote one of the other reviews from one of your other books: â€œIt's unfortunate when the Cisco-sponsored books don't accurately reflect the exam.â€ To expound on that to you, David, itâ€™s not only unfortunate, itâ€™s complete bull----. Your book is over 18 months in print. Itâ€™s â€œOfficialâ€. Its purpose is for the exam. I was able to find the missing pieces to your material that affected me within an hour after taking my exam. If Cisco doesnâ€™t care enough to coordinate with you to make sure the â€œOfficialâ€ book covers the questions on the exam, or you donâ€™t care enough to coordinate with them and revise your books, then retire. Stop being a part of a mismanaged Cisco Certification process screwing professionals with demanding jobs and families out of precious time when the just about the only way to really pass the exam is through asking someone whatâ€™s actually on it and/or having a little luck. There are â€œresourcesâ€ I mentioned above that would easily let you, David, know what is on the exam and not in your book. You should be reviewing that sort of thing and issuing another edition instead of writing more â€œalmost-thereâ€ books that indirectly embolden and add an element of justification to a cottage industry of cheating.Cisco, with due respect to your position as a market leader, this $250 exam is not representative of your standards. Who is writing your questions? Better yet, who is their QA on this? Questions that are a game of gotchas are somewhat acceptable in exams, but I found this exam uncreative and unpolished to say the least (a.k.a.,Letâ€™s ask them something I KNOW they wonâ€™t know). I also found myself trying to figure out what the tester was trying to ask instead of what the test was actually asking on more than one occasion. I thought this was a Professional level exam, Cisco. This exam is used for job quals, DoD task levels, and more. You have a responsibility here, and you arenâ€™t maintaining this certification product. Shut it down if you arenâ€™t going to take it seriously. Stop taking $250 (or more!) from working folks who want to better themselves, because itâ€™s insulting at that price point to find bad wording, wrong technical information in questions, or even spelling errors. Test-takers are taking time away from themselves in the exam to write comments to fix your product, and have done so for well over a year; but since your exam has been on the street for almost 18 months and I just took the crap that I took, itâ€™s obvious you donâ€™t care about doing internal QA or market QA. You know people are cheating like crazy to pass your exam, and you do nothing to help the honest folks. Câ€™mon guys.Cisco Press is not Cisco, but people have these complaints about several exams all the time, and Cisco points at its â€œblueprintâ€ and does not address the issues; however, any reasonable person would assume if a book is Official, thereâ€™s an obvious implication that Cisco has evaluated it for both the blueprint and the certification exam. Why should it make sense to the exam community that when exam content is known widely (especially on available cheat sites), that I should read the OCG, duplicative information in a Foundation Learning Guide, duplicative information in online .pdfs at Cisco, all because no one book desires to have it in one place relevant to the exam. Oh wait, that would be the job of the OCG. I have lost respect for the companies involved here, especially after the time I put into the appeal, and their cookie-cutter negative response. Screw the CCNP, I canâ€™t get the time I wasted on these companiesâ€™ products back.

This book is laid out well and covers the topics in detail. This is my supplemental study material and I am glad I bought this as it has sharpened some of the topics for me that wasn't covered so well (or at all) in my other material. Not sure if I can access the practice test or not with the Kindle version, but for the price it's still a bargain. For now, this is going to be a three star review until I sit for the exam. It's not a knock on the book, I just don't know how well it prepares one for 300-115 until I actually take it. I'll update later with results.-----------------------------EDITI sat for and passed SWITCH 300-115 earlier this week. Virtually everything on the test was in this book and this book covered the topics in enough detail to get you through the exam. I'll be buying the other two books in this series for ROUTE 300-101 and TSHOOT 300-135. This is a great book if you want to pass the exam as it doesn't have a ton of fluff and unimportant topics.

Unlike the previous CCNA and CCNP Official Cert Guides that I've read, this book is actually well-written with all topics making sense. However, the huge shortcoming is that the text insufficiently covers the exam topics that are posted on Cisco's website.

This Cisco Press book is great! There are a lot of people posting about how it does not cover 'EVERYTHING.' And maybe their is some truth to that. However, to not only pass your NP exam and become just that; a Network Professional, you should be using multiple sources. Books, labs, training online, on the job training ect. If you are using all the resources a someone training to an NP 'should' be using, this is THE book to have.I find it a great hybrid of a read. It does get super technical, but its not written like radio instructions; its written very well.I think its a must-get if you plan to tackle your NP. Combine it with other learning methods though.

Agree, you won't pass 300-115 with this book alone.Some of the topics have only a paragraph, and then the exam asks specifics that came from cisco.com materials.

Hi,I have decided to leave review for some books when I have time. I have many many books. This is a book that It has been very helpful when it comes to Windows 32 Development when dealing with GUI apps.By far, Programming Windows fifth edition by Charles Petzold is the best book ever in this topic. However, this is a great add on when dealing with the gui part.If you need to do any programming with windows 32, I would first buy Charles Petzold and then this one. Petzold is a book that can help you to understand but this one is a great add-on reference. Binding is not the best, but I don't care much about it.

Written for the experience C programmer but it still has plenty of information for the less experienced programmer like me or for someone who wants to learn about Win32. At over 1500 pages it covers perhaps every subject and in very good detail. For example the Edit Class is covered in 28 pages. Charles Petzold's Programming Windows Fifty Edition covers the class in only 6 pages. The index is massive at over 180 pages.

This book shows the complete library explanation that is missing from MSDN Microsoft. Win32 almost be forgotten this day as the evolving of software development product. I recommend this book for people who like to know in depth of Win32. It requires fair amount of programming language background especially in C++. Most legacy windows application is built under Native Win32. So get this book to get clear understanding of what's on the library.

The delivery was very fast, for me in Brazil. I could to track step-by-step the delivery by Amazon site, that sent me frequently emails about my purchase. The books were in perfect condition. Although the CDROM didn't come together with the books, I found the files in the internet.I hope to do another purchases soon.

The book has a very good foundation for the development of Win32 applications and system programming. I found the book to have many well established examples and definitely could be used as a reference. The CD provided with the book is loaded with lots of good code examples.This book is not for the newcomer, in order to get good information from the book you should have some good experience in both software programming and some experience with operating systems in general. The book is highly technical and may require the reader to sometimes re-read items in order to totally understand them. The book listings and explanations through tables and figures were very helpful, I must admit that without those tables and figures it would have been much more difficult for me to understand many of the technical items conveyed in the book.I had the chance to try a few of the book examples (too many to try all) and found that they all were working fine. I did find the book a bit hard to navigate through; It may be due to the quantity of information or what I felt was a very small font size which made the book feel a bit crowded. -- Review by Michael S.

I have owned this book for at least seven years and have made a couple of good attempts to read/study it with some success as it may not be the best first book for programming the Win32 API although it certainly treats the subject in excruciating detail and with insights garnered by the two authors who are two of the most consummately professional programmers in the world - Brent Rector and Joseph Newcomer. For example Herb Schildt's Programming Windows 98 from the Ground Up teaches WIN32 programming and I find myself more productive in less time studying that book, even though WIN32 programming teaches with a philosophy that one is (ultimately) going to be writing large multifile programs, and this philosophy isn't apparent in Schildt's book. Additionally, an added bonus of Win32 Programming are the insights one gets into writing more robust and professional code - the C code (and there is a lot of it - 140,000 lines included on the CD ROM) has been written by the very best programmers. Additionally, the treatment of each topic is probably more in depth in this book - one example being the discussion of the GDI. More advanced topics included are chapters on writing a DLL, writing an MDI application, and writing multithreading applications. Finally, at 1500 pages the book is reference-like and also like a textbook thus I would assume that it may well take the better part of a year to study each chapter and the associated applications, making it one of the finest and most comprehensive books ever written on WIN32 API programming. I paid $50 for it at UCLA and the book has stood the test of time and proves to be an invaluable work well worth the cost. Finally, this book would seemingly rank among the most professional and scientific computer science/programming titles ever written - certainly it would be one of the most massive - the index is around 200 pages long in itself!

Very good on the level of detail, and incredible on the pitfalls and specific problems they found when actually writing the code for the examples. Be careful, though - a number of the tables (and even some of the printed code samples) contain typos and other minor errors (like missing headings, making one table pretty useless!). You can figure out what's wrong, but if you just use this as a reference and happen to hit a section with an error you might not catch it without reading the accompanying text. I read it through, rather than as a reference, and it was clear which parts of the text had only been lightly checked for the latest edition.Again, 95+% of this book is really great! And the anecdotes and clear detail on where MS documentation is "flawed" are of terrific value - I definitely am glad to have purchased it, but I also want to point out that if something in it doesn't make sense - you're probably not crazy. It's quite likely to be a typo...Oh - one more thing. The "Explorer" samples they include were a fabulous idea, and have really helped me figure out what the heck some of the various style (and other) flags really meant. Extra credit for the CD! :-)

If you've read and enjoyed old school Harlequin Presents or Mills and Books you might enjoy these. They are all told exclusively from the female POV. Additionally, the plots are all the same. The authors ' definition of hot sex followed by the man's inexplicable callous rejection followed by his return and weak explanation. The first two stories in particular lack chemistry. All of the Poppy Adams stories have great chemistry at least, which makes the scenes more believable. Trust me though, that's not saying much. Without her stories this collection would get one star.

I purchased this book for a project I was doing for a college course. This book is so full of information and is very helpful in making sure you are clear on what is going on with internet governance. It also helped me understand how to do some research on the subject for myself.

In doing so, she contributes to unveil what media and policymaker accounts of Internet governance all too often cause to stay out of the public radar.While this book is also, indirectly, a means to revisit and update the debates on â€œmultistakeholderismâ€, prominent in some IG venues such as the Internet Governance Forum, the authorâ€™s main interest rests unambiguously with the â€œtechnologically concealedâ€ and its socio-technical agency: the extent to which non-human actors (to put it in STS vocabulary) such as information intermediaries, critical Internet resources, Internet exchange points and security devices play a crucial â€œgovernanceâ€ role alongside political, national and supra-national institutions and civil society organizations. Throughout the book, Laura DeNardis explores how Internet governance takes shape in the myriad of infrastructures, devices, data fluxes and technical architectures that - discreet, often invisible, yet no less crucial - subtend and build the increasingly public and articulate â€œnetwork of networksâ€.The authorâ€™s conceptual framework is shaped by five core research questions: how arrangements of technical architecture are, inherently, arrangements of power and politics, which can be revealed by bringing infrastructures to the foreground; how â€œtraditional powerâ€ structures are increasingly mobilizing Internet governance technologies as proxies for content control; how Internet governance is increasingly privatized, enacted by corporations and non-governmental entities, in areas as diverse as privacy, control of online financial flows, censorship, and copyright enforcement; how decisions implemented within technical spaces on the Internet reflect conflicts over competing sets of values, rights, policy norms, as well as ongoing negotiations of the values subtending Internet architecture; and finally, how the variety of â€œlocal Internetsâ€ and the stability of the global Internet intersect and mutually influence each other, calling for a â€œcarefully planned global governance frameworkâ€ (p.18), a luxury that the rapid pace of innovation, the impressive scaling, and the diversification of uses have almost never allowed to Internet architecture in its global era.This five-pronged framework opens the door to Laura DeNardisâ€™s exploration and narrative of Internet governance as an ensemble of controversies and battles over â€œcontrol pointsâ€, a narrative which constitutes the remainder of the book. These control points range from the deepest layers of Internet infrastructure to the â€œlast mileâ€ of user access to the network; from the blocking of financial flows to the deliberate â€œkill-switchesâ€ of Internet-based services; from the â€œgraduated responseâ€ termination of domestic Internet access to the attempted use of the Domain Name System for copyright enforcement purposes; from the Internetâ€™s backbone infrastructure to the establishment of interconnection agreements; and finally, the de facto public policy role assumed by private information intermediaries in the variety of instances where they gather, collect, aggregate, select, present data to users and to other actors of the Internet value chain -- thereby enacting governance over privacy, freedom of expression, cultural diversity and reputation.The authorâ€™s training as an engineer provides the background and the tools for an exploration of Internet governance that I have described elsewhere as â€œnot afraid of its subject of studyâ€ (Musiani, 2012): able to resist the temptation of an excessive â€œinstitutionalizationâ€ of IG, to avoid recoiling from the dense, intricate, complex, technically-grounded substrate of Internet governance power struggles, and to embrace the challenge of accounting for it in a detailed yet engaging way. While the methodological toolbox and narrative devices of STS are, unambiguously, precious instruments for the author, enabling her to achieve these objectives in a successful manner, this book is not â€œblatantlyâ€ STS. The vocabulary of actor-network, delegation, black boxes, co-production is there as a means, not an end in itself; the references to Geoffrey Bowker and Susan Leigh Starâ€™s work on standards (1996), to Bruno Latourâ€™s musings on technical mediation (1994), to Michel Callonâ€™s sociology of translation (1986), to Tarleton Gillespieâ€™s â€œpolitics of platformsâ€ (2010) are tools, not enumerations of the obligatory literature review; the description of socio-technical controversies is ever-present, but weaved discreetly into the narrative.As Jeanette Hofmann once wrote, Internet governance is a â€œregulative idea in fluxâ€ (2007). Indeed, the search for concepts, tools and categories to make sense of 21st century Internet governance, both as a set of practices and technologies and an academic field of study, is very much open-ended, unresolved and problematic. This book is really good if you are looking for a beginners guide in sql this would be the book i would choose. This has the very basics in sql like how to create, insert and delete tables in a sql database. It also gives us knowledge on how to pose queries that we are dealing with in sql. How to join tables and read the questions and how to convert them into sql queries. There are many examples and practice exercises to get a complete grip on sql commands and queries. If you are beginner in computer sciences and would like basic knowledge on databases and sql i would highly suggest buying this book. It also has complex commands and the end for creating views for your queries which are very good. It also helps you understand normalisation and how different companies use different normalisations and helps classify them so you get a good understanding on the topic. I do not see any complaints on the contents of this book so i am giving it 5 stars. I got this product for free in exchange for a unbiased review of the book. It took me a month to go through the book and gave it best unbiased review.

My wife will write this review:I have an accounting degree. The one thing I wish my college had focused more on was the software frequently used by accountants/accounts payable employees. After reading this book, I feel as though I could easily use SQL in a work setting. I can put it on my resume to say that am "knowledgeable" in the software. Although I still have no experience, I can get an employers attention by stating that I know how to use the software.I think this is good for someone who needs to know enough to get started. I've never worked with the software before in my life. So it's definitely a good beginners guide. The descriptions are clear and concise. I will probably keep it as a reference guide for any job in which I use this software.It is not overly long so it doesn't take days to sift through complicated material. Overall, a great purchase.

This is a great books for beginner's at SQL. It shows many commands not often found in beginner books. I used it as a companion to hands-on serious of introduction classes for my co-workers.

Very basic. For the price, I expected more than just a small book. It does give the basics and puts it in a fairly simple form. If books help you with this sort of thing, you will need another book after this one. I guess you would be able to write a basic SQL maybe after reading this. I bought this for use at work with people to reference.

I was looking for an overview of SQL so that I can talk the talk with my tech team and this fit the bill. It was a relatively short read with great examples. It can also serve as a good jumping-off point for anyone interested in learning more. There were a few typos as other have said, but nothing too egregious. Also, the links to the Northwind database and the free audiobook need to be updated though I didn't feel shortchanged by not having access to the database.

I'm working through the kindle version while awaiting the paperback. The content seems good, but I would stay away from the kindle version. It reads like somone took the original text, cut it up in sections and then put those sections back in the wrong order. Very disjointed. I hope the hardcopy isn't like this.

I needed to get up to speed quickly on working with databases and this guide was perfect. Good explanation and very concise; "short" can sometimes be a bad thing, but in this case it was a virtue that it gets right to the point and told me everything I needed to know.

Sink hole of heavy-handed ads at book end allow no opportunity to opt out only allow to â€œaccept and close.â€ I wanted not part of baited offers, gimmicks and attendant email avalanche, especially as access to promised downloadable assets failed to arrive. Disappointed.

By the time you have sat through 11 tests (get another test book if you are one of those high achieving eager-beaver types after this one if you must), you will get so used to taking the SATs that the actual test is not going to bother you any more (and any mistakes you might have made due to stress would be minimized). Highly recommended.

I got this book after my mom kept pushing me to study for SATs (I'm currently a junior and I took the test in December). Even though it was a drag to churn out a test every week, I think it helped me on the actual test, as well as the PSAT.I didn't really use the additional PSAT practice test, but my projected SAT score from the results was 2310, and it turned out to be pretty close. The most useful part for me was actually when they reviewed the few types of grammar rules. I went over this briefly and everything was on the actual test (I aced the grammar portion of it). There's not too much review because it IS a book of practice tests, so I assume this book is not for everyone or is to be used in conjunction with their Cracking the SAT series. I for one didn't really want to take a prep class so I chose this instead.The typos mentioned by other people were pretty obvious, and sometimes very frustrating. I'm pretty sure that most people can figure out that the slope of a line is found by using delta y over delta x, not some weird mix of the two (Practice test 4, Section 3, #19.)I'm not sure how other prep books are (I didn't really have much time and I've only taken the test once), but this one is good for checking timing, and the problems are about the right difficulty. Basically, use this book to prepare, but be ready to face typos and some vague questions. If you can deal with that, this should be a pretty good choice for you.

This book claims that is has "proven techniques for a higher score", such claim is completely preposterous in my opinion...The answer sheet is contradictory to the detailed explanations, which can only mean one thing: this book hadn't been checked for errors, and therefore it is full of them...I am shocked that such a renowned company would do the blatant mistake of not checking for errors correctly, I ended up being confused and with a much lower self-esteem due to the fact that I could tell if my answers are right or wrong....The verdict: If you want a 1000 page collection of errors, go ahead and waste your money.

This book is essentially a great tool to use for practice. However, with in-depth usage, I came to realize that this book lacks detail in its answer explanations. The answer text in this book (in its CR sections) will explain the reason why the /correct/ answer is correct, and, from what I have seem from the majority of the time, leaves the explanation for the other four incorrect answers with the sentence: "The other answers are not supported by the passage." No waaaay..... I didn't know that! It irks me how Princeton couldn't put a little more effort into their answer keys as to thoroughly explain why an answer isn't correct. It just contradicts the cover statement that there will be "detailed answers and explanations for every questions". Minus one star for that.Another reason as to why I deducted a total of two stars is because of this book's diminutive but common grammatical errors and occasional question errors as well. You'd think that a SAT prep book that was designed to help you would be everywhere well-rounded in its layout. But, sadly, I've caught so many errors in this book that the amount of fingers on both my hands aren't enough to keep count. Mispelling the world "in" by using the word "inn" and repeating answer choices make me question whether Princeton's staff members were half asleep writing this book.I'm not directly implying that these grammatical malfunctions or half-ass explanations will hobble one's ability to efficiently use this book. These practice tests are relatively similar to the actual SAT tests, and if practiced regularly, will definitely benefit those who seek to improve their scores. I just wish this book was reviewed over a few more times before its publication.

After finishing the College Board test guide, this book seemed like a good source of additional practice. However, I quickly noticed a plethora of misprints that make certain questions unsolvable without having to guess what the correct information should be. If the publisher only revised this book before putting it into print, this would have been a great product.

Normally Princeton Review guides are our go to books for exam reviews. However, they clearly rushed this without enough editing. As a previous reviewer has already stated, the summary answer sheets have many mistakes on them. The answers in the detailed explanation portion is correct, so one has to compare the summary answer sheet to the detail portion first, then go back to grading the SAT practice test. Sloppy and inconvenient, but not impossible to work around.

I usually don't write reviews, but this book is a real Godsend. It provides a clear path, in a sinuous field. Most importantly, the authors use very simple and not overtly ostentatious writing. I can't stand other books that get so caught up in the want-to-be intellectual lingo that it becomes a chore to read. While the present book did not directly give me all the research answers I seek, it did provide me with a great path to start my quest. In this field, it is nearly impossible to learn the nuances of the field simply from journal articles, due to the abundance of conflicting viewpoints.

Cuuuuute! I have a few small bones to pick, if you're particular like me you might care.1) I don't like the line about eating everything on your plate- I don't think that's an awfully healthy way to look at food. I do like that it says to save your leftovers. We'll focus on that part when we read it.2) I wish that the bit about water conservation had a justification that was a little more direct- saving water is not really about keeping the ocean blue. Everything else seems to be much more directly connected, and I feel the author could have done a little bit better on that particular bit.Really these are small complaints, we'll definitely keep the book. I think it does an excellent job of helping kids realized that they can do a lot to help take care of the earth, and my son LOVES the pictures.

Another fantastic book from popular children's author Todd Parr. His unique style of colorful illustrations and simple text are a smash hit with preschool and kindergarten audiences every time. This is the perfect book to read to your preschool or kindergarten class or child on Earth Day. Each page highlights one way young children can help make the world a better place followed by a "because" statement. Adding because statements makes the message in this book even more powerful. It's not about just telling kids to do something, but also giving them the reasons why it's important; therefore it becomes more meaningful to them. Parr also has a great sense of humor and knows his audience well as evidenced by the mention of underwear in the detachable poster that is included on the last page of the book. The Earth Book is sure to become a favorite with your child or class as they squeal with delight at the very thought of putting their underwear in the refrigerator!

Oh how I love this book! It's not too far to the hippie side or to the first world priveledge side. It's right in the middle, perfect for kids, telling them to be good stewards of their environment in small and big ways. The pictures are interesting and my kids were "reading" it to me after a few times. I got this as a fun and inexpensive retirement gift for a friend who was eager to go on his next adventure across the world.

My son grabbed this at preschool to show me when on his birthday he got to pick his favorite book to read to everyone. He talked about how much he loves the earth and that is why he wants to pick up the garbage....he is learning responsibility for the earth in a positive joyful way. It's terrific. So, we bought it for him to give to his dad for his birthday..so they can read it together.

Read it with my 4 year old. He loved it. Only I couldn't explain to him why the book says that you can help the Earth by putting your underwear in the freezer when it's hot? I am still trying to figure this one out!!! Otherwise, good book!

As with other books for small children by Todd Parr, The EARTH book is a delight in words and pictures. It explains in simple language some important ideas about the earth and engenders a love of the planet in small children. Every parent is encouraged to get this book and others by Parr and read them to their children. Pre-schools would do well to have these books available as well.

After our recycling unit in the fall, we returned to this in April for EARTH DAY. Honestly, there is not a single Todd Parr book that I don't adore.His messages are spot on, and easy enough for my pre-K students to understand. They find the list of 10 things to do hilarious, especially putting underwear in the freezer- they just wait daily for me to read that to them, and it always makes us all laugh!

For some idiotic reason this was written like the King James version of the Bible.This is NOT a direct from Hebrew text, like the author claims.

If this book is supposed to be historical, then it should be in line with what the bible teaches. One most blatant contradictions and Inaccuracies is found on page 152 of this book. It states the following: Also what Isaac did when Jacob had fled from his brother, when he commanded him, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan, nor make alliance with any of the children of Ham. For the Lord our God gave Ham the son of Noah, and his children and all his seed, as slaves to the children of Shem, and to the children of Japhet , and unto their seed after them for slaves, forever. The bible does not say this. This is actually a lie that has been preached through religion all over the world for generations to enslave the minds of brown people. What the bible actually does say is this: King James Genesis 9:25 : And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. Who are Canaanâ€™s brethren ? Cush, Mitzraim and Phut ( Ethiopia, Egypt and Abyssinia). Not Shem and Japhet. And Notice that Ham was never cursed. Again we read in King James Genesis 9:26: And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem: and Canaan shall be his servant. whoâ€™s servant? The Lord God of Shem. So Canaan will be Godâ€™s servant NOT Shemâ€™s servant. Let us not forget that Abraham married a Canaanite named Keturah (pg. 53 Book of Jasher) Jacob and his sons make a peace treaty or alliance with the kings of Canaan (pg 86-87 Book of Jasher) The sons of Jacob also took Canaanite wives. Moses himself married a Medianite. All daughters and sons of Ham. So see? There is no curse on Ham. Nor on his seed to serve Shem and Japhet. Due to this huge discrepency, I give this book a one star.

Wow does this make the Bible come alive! Our small group is studying the book of Genesis and we got this to see what it said about Biblical subjects. This is NOT part of the original cannon of the Holy Bible, however, it is quoted in the Bible and old Biblical scholars used it as a second reference. It makes parts of the Bible easier to understand through a layman's eyes. For example, it tells us that Noah took the original skin clothing that God made for Adam and Eve after they had sinned, and brought them on the ark to save them. They eventually fell into the hands of the evil OT Biblical king Nimrod! (Tower of Babel) Very interesting stuff! We make sure we use the Holy Scripture as our guideline, but this we use as an OT commentator only. But it is fascinating!

Did you know that this was one of the scrolls which Jesus read growing up at Synagogue? Did you know that it was removed from OUR BIBLES just 200 some odd years ago?! I love this book! It fills in so many gaps in Genesis; like issac's part in Issac's sacrifice of his own body, his true age and why it was that the Egyptian handmade and her son, Ishmael, were cast out of Abraham's city. Why is it that we have read this for MILLENNIA and just 200 years ago- this (and many other books) were removed!? Think about it!

I have enjoyed this book very much. I've learned so much about Jacobs son's, about Abraham and Sarah, Nimrod, Esau etc. Interesting what happened with Esau the day the sold his birthright.No footnotes.Good bindingHeavy paper with decent size print. I had no idea that Esau was the one who killed Nimrod which is why when he ran into his brother Jacob he was weary and fearful that his life may end that day so he gave up his birthright with ease because of the mindset he was in. Nimrod's guards were looking for Esau to kill him for what he had done. The Bible does not go into detail and leaves out the bit with Nimrod so you really don't know what Esau was doing prior to him running into his brother. That explains why he was so exhausted as well while speaking to Jacob. I also knew nothing about Abraham's early years and his relationship to Nimrod. For those who don't know, Nimrod is the wicked king who is responsible for the tower of Babel. I'm so excited that now I read with proper context and deeper understanding of the people in the Bible.

As a person who tends to be a visual learner rather than an aural learner this course is a very good exercise for getting me to focus and train my ear and mind in new ways. These listening skills are not "automatic" for me so the fact that this book starts at ground level is fine even if I already understand it on paper (and by the lights on my eq- lol).As far as the Critical Listening cd goes I have had no trouble getting it to play, but...why is the first half the book the back half the cd and the second half of the book start at track 1?to confuse me more, when I get to the middle of the cd (where the lessons at the front of the book begin) it starts with lesson two??? Wondering where chapter one disappeared to I skipped through the tracks only to find it as the last track on the cd, track 18. Silly me I expected the cd to follow the book and for lesson one to correspond to track one. What the heck ever happened to quality control? C'mon guys! So minus one star for the quality issues, not content.The ideas are laid out logically and the course walks you along one little step at time. The latter could be a plus or a minus depending upon where you are coming from. For me this was better than if it had just rushed me along without being clear and concise, even if at the expense of being a bit tedious.Others like me might also appreciate the cd that comes with Ira White's "audio made easy" book. It touches on this topic in a practical way with examples involving actual instruments. White's book covers the basics (in breadth, not depth) and is a good resource for those just getting their feet wet in pro audio.

I picked up this book along with Master Handbook of Acoustics and found this book a good accompaniment. A lot of the topics discussed in the Master Handbook sort of coincided with this book in a similar order. I found the audio examples to be a fair reference point.. some of the demonstrations were pretty hokey but the point was totally there. The one thing I didn't like about the Master Handbook of Acoustics was the fact that it was a lot of theory without any sort of audio reference to tie the chapters together and this book worked as a good compliment and an overview of what you're listening for.It's true that if you have a copy of this book without a CD, it's useless since it does have audio identification exercises. If you receive this book without a CD or the CD is broken and you purchased from this site, Amazon does have a return policy so you'll want to replace it with a different copy right away. Also, if you've got a crazy audiophile setup but can't figure out a way to convert an .mp3 to a CD audio friendly format, try out Audacity for this purpose "[...]"I gave this book 4 stars since it has a dependency on the CD which, according to other reviews, does not work on all systems. This is more of a workbook of exercises than a full on how-to for critical listening.

I am currently a student in mediaproduction and not too apt in the field of audio. Often I would come across examples in my textbooks on problems concerning EQ, audio levels, sounds masking eachother comb filter effect etc. My biggest problem is that I do not know what I should listen for. I haven't finished this book yet, but I still feel confident enough about in order to praise it in a review. This book is very good. Nice examples on the CD and very helpful. I do not know how useful it is for audio professionals, but for a student I think it is awesome.In my first review I wrote that I thought the CD was sloppily made. In fact there was no trouble with the tracks, but since I did not realize that the CD contained mp3's rather than ordinary CD tracks my player read track 10 as track 2. Well, I dont know if I would trust mp3's as a listening reference (even if they have a very hight quality). I wish they could have used CD quality Wave files on a DVD instead. Still a helpful book, though.

Useful although a bit dated.

As a working musician I have branched into audio work, as well. In the first lesson out of the gate the system "tunes" you in to a new way of thinking. I have found this book to be a great jump start to more effectively running live sound.

This book contains some clear and self explanatory audio exercises. I hate to acknowledge that most of the exercises could have already been performed by using a 'free' (computer) tone generator to explore the different frequency ranges. Beware, it will require time to learn to listen properly. I was very wrong to believe that by listening to the contents once, I was set. I would suggest to make copies of use a separate sheet of paper to answers the exercises. This way you can repeat it, over and over. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in improving his/her audio listening skills.*PROS: -Good and helpful exercises -Nice correlation between the audio exercises and the freq. graphs on the book. -If you have no patience to play with a tone generator, this book is well suited for you.*CONS -The CD without the book or the book without the CD become useless. -You need to read the book while you listen to the CD. -The CD is in fact an MP3-CD, so you may not play it anywhere you want. -I have the impression that the book is kind of expensive. Many of the exercises can already be performed by anyone using a (free) tone generator. - The book is kind of bulky to take it anywhere.

Amazingly well done book. We are using it for homeschooling too!

4.5*'sAs always Kendra delivered a story that had me on the edge of my seat. There were a few parts that were not as fast paced as others but over all it was a fantastic read. It seems that Mercy can get herself into all kinds of trouble even if she isn't looking for it. And not just any kind of trouble. Oh no, she has to get herself buried neck deep in the snow, gun fire and well, ya know, fire.Throughout it all she has her friends (co workers) and Truman at her side. Every step towards the answers she seeks sends her closer and closer to the answers she seeks, even if those answers may be the last thing she gets out of any of it.I love the characters, I love the storyline and I can not wait to see what Kendra comes up with next!

***4.5 stars***As always Kendra delivered another great story!!! The plot was suspenseful and interesting. I loved the return of Ava and Michael!!! I hope to see them again. I had the thought early on who the bad guy was but it didn't take away from the story. Especially to find out just how crazy they were and their motives. We are made to believe that the story behind the murders is one thing when in fact it was something completely different.I liked that there was a bit more romance in this book but it is still lacking the romance that Kendra has delieved in her other books that connect the heroine and hero together. I guess because of this I have a hard time feeling the connection between Mercy and Truman. I hope this is not going to be a new thing with Kendra's future books.Overall this is another good book by Kendra and I'm looking forward to the next one. If you haven't read any of Kendra's previous books then I highly recommend that you do!!! You won't be disappointed!!!

This is the best Mercy book yet! I love these books, Mercy is a decidedly different character from those in all the other crime series I read.I love the prepper descriptions (although I may be becoming a little paranoid myself- I actually spent an hour looking at a survivalist site yesterday- a bit useless since I live in Manhattan and would have to teleport away in case of TEOTWAWKI -look it up in Merciful Secret). But the book does inspire me to think about ways to plan for the unknown, and not just drift along.The continuing story of Mercy's sister Rose is wonderful and I look forward to more. The characters in this book were really thought provoking. many,many surprises, and the first person voice of Salome can break your heart. This is a book about relationships- some forming, some breaking, some having to be re-written. As for the murders themselves,just when we think we have it figured out, wham- it's all up-ended. Thanks Kendra for a great read,for the hours of escape from what can be depressing times. I cannot wait for the next installment.

Iâ€™m becoming a bit of a Goldilocks with audiobooks. And the formula thatâ€™s just right for me involves a steady pace and a straight forward plot. This series fits the bill, although this book was not as strong as the prior two. While I really enjoy Mercy and Truman and it warms my heart to see their developing relationship, I felt there was too much of their looking longingly at each other. It detracted from the story and made me wonder if I was listening to a romance novel or a mystery.The plot involves the murder of two seemingly unrelated people. One, a local woman, was considered a witch by many in Eagle Rock. We hear chapters from her daughter, Salome, giving the history of her teenage years.I donâ€™t recommend reading this as a stand alone. You need the background, especially Mercyâ€™s, provided in the earlier books.While I wasnâ€™t as enthralled with this book as the prior two, itâ€™s still a decent mystery and I will definitely read book four.Iâ€™ve got to give kudos to Teri Schnaubelt. She does a masterful job as the narrator.

I really like the first book, so I bought the second book and now the third in the series. I liked the character of Mercy at first, but now, after reading the second and third book, I'm finding I'm not liking her as much. Her language as well as that of others around her ( including her boyfriend, Truman) is getting rougher and rougher and really without any legitimacy. I feel like she is getting uglier, not someone I would want to get to know.I watched a movie the other day that had a gorgeous lead woman who had a very foul mouth and it seemed that every other word was a f-bomb expletive. This woman was an awful person who did some really terrible things to those around her and I believe that the writers of the film used her foul mouth to show what her character was supposed to be from the inside. Her language was a "tell". And I think that this movie and the writers use of language is no surprise - it worked and it continues to work.Why would this author use such bad language for a supposedly great person who cares about those around her? There really is no need for this use of language. It almost makes Mercy, Truman and the others look stupid. Jeez, learn a language already, use more intelligent words to express anger or dismay. I seem to be able to do it along with most people I meet.I also watched another movie the other day. Full on action thriller, guns a blazing, car chases, murder, mayhem - I'm sure you get the picture. I was totally engrossed in the film, thought it was great, kept my attention the whole 2 hours. Guess what, it had exactly one f-bomb.Come on Kendra Elliot, make Mercy likable again.

This book opens at full speed and never slows down. On the way back from her cabin Mercy comes across a bloody young girl who waves her down. The girls Grandmother has been brutally murdered. A second victim is murdered in the same manner and Mercy and Truman are pulled into the case. This book has a great plot with plenty of suspense and action. It will keep you on the edge of your seat turning pages to see what will happen next. The characters are well developed and you connect with them emotionally. This is a great addition to the Mercy Kilpatrick series. I canâ€™t wait for the next book in the series. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy of this book.

About the Author

Amy is a mother of 4, and a passionate writer, quilt designer and instructor. I had checked this book out at the local library and it was pure eye candy. I wanted to have my own copy. There are lots of beautiful blocks in here to play and learn to make.

Although I LOVE this book and have made seven blocks already, I was appalled that whoever proofread the book apparently did not try to make the blocks using the instructions given. At least three of the seven I have made had incorrect cutting instructions, several had confusing or incorrect instructions for assembly, and none ended up to be 12.5 inch squares. (Most were 12.25 or a little smaller.) I cut precisely and made exact seams but still had some issues. In general, I decided that cutting larger pieces and trimming to size after piecing was the way to go. Although the waste of fabric goes again the grain, having pieced many quilts before, I ADORE the methods here that allow for piecing perfectly without cutting out all those tiny triangles and squares. The book is conceptually fantastic. My only real criticism is that a novice would be completely lost, and even someone with significant quilting experience can be thrown for a loop by the incorrect measurements and faulty instructions!

To begin with I was on the fence about this book. Someone told me how great a book it was and I just ignored them. Then hubby saw this in my cart and surprised me with it, after actually reading through it I realized this book was different and just wowed me in presentation and all the possiblities. It's not a lot of patterns put together but a bunch of blocks that will look good either in a sampler, stand-alone or put together with the 10 staple blocks.I can't find anything to complain about, except not having enough time or fabric to make everything from this book. I've made 2 blocks from this book, Morning Paper and Hot Cross Bun and had planned on turning it into a larger quilt but rethinking my secondary block (Hot Cross Bun). Normally these two blocks do not align exactly so I had to re-do some math to make it work but it really isn't all that difficult if you've been quilting or can do some math. I also changed out the center section for Morning Paper in a few blocks and again had to reevaluate my cuts but it wasn't that hard.I recommend reading both How to use this Book and Working the Grid section once you've absorbed all the eye candy. You will need access to a scanner/copier as some of the blocks require paper piecing and others require templates, neither of the blocks I mentioned require either.

I really WANT to love this book. But now 6 weeks into it and I keep finding error after error. Very dissapointing for a book that is supposed to be "teaching" how to make blocks accurately and correctly. Templates labeled incorrectly, sizes off, I just can't believe it. I'm not new to quilting by any means, but this is a waste of my time to have to run online and see if there is yet more errata to download.

The theme and layout of the book are appealing and the photography is very good. However, I am very disappointed at the number of mistakes in measurements and directions that I have found. I am leading a block-of-the-month group within my guild and we all purchased the book to use as our guide. I now regret the choice. I think the main strength of the book is the section on quilt layout design toward the end. I would not recommend the book.

Wow! The first thing to say is this book is beautifully photographed. I adore the photography. The next thing to say is it seems like Amy is going to work herself out of a job! Have you ever wanted to deconstruct a quilt block but you weren't quite sure how? Read this book. Have you ever just wanted a little inspiration and then to make something all your own? Read this book. She details 40 intricate blocks by grid size and then 10 more "staples," which are those blocks that look plain on their own but really make the other blocks shine when put together. She also talks about new twists on sampler quilts and how to use repeated blocks to get some beautiful quilts. But the point of this book is not to copy exactly what she's done. The point is to mix and match techniques and understand how blocks and quilts really fit together in order to make something all your own. There's even a section near the back where she gives you the math to make each unit in the size you want. I have several quilts in the works that I must finish first, but I look forward to diving into this and beginning my own designs.

First I'll say I love the quilt layouts. And I've made a number of the blocks. But there are so many errors in the book. I've used many quilt books and never have been so screwed up. There are corrections on-libe, but I've found even more than those.

I am co-chairing a block of the month group of 25 quilters using this book as inspiration. Even with the corrections shared by Ms. Gibson in her block of the week event, errors still exist that should not have happened with good proofing and testing. We found two blocks alone where no corrections are mentioned. I emailed the author asking for the corrections and still no response after 2+ weeks. The arithmetic does not work at all for a 12.25 UF block. Buyers beware.....need the third print edition as the second printing is now available.I've done three other Amy Gibson projects with no problem....what happened?

Love the book concept, and the photography is very well done. The blocks are beautiful and I enjoy making them (I've made about a dozen so far). However, and this is a big caveat, there are a lot of errors in the book; references to wrong templates, wrong cutting sizes, and sloppy instructions. For an art form that requires specificity and accurate measuring, this is not acceptable. I'm patient with quilting, and I'm also doing this book with a group at my local quilt shop, which is helpful. Each of us is sharing our corrections as we find them. But a beginner would be lost using this book. Perhaps later printings will include all of the many corrections. Until then, this book needs a good editor who knows how to quilt and is willing to test every single pattern as written before going to press.

Before this book, I had never heard about Boko Haram and all the terrorist things happening in Nigeria. While not graphic at all, it still gets the point across of what is all going on and will leave you seriously thankful for the freedom we have here in America. a perfect historical fiction to add to your book shelf, though I don't recommend for younger readers and kids.

not due to style but to content. Pieces together from real stories by the kidnapped victims, this work would make for a great book study and should spur anyone who has read it to some sort of action.

This novel was such an emotional read. I wasn't aware that some of the things discussed happened to so many innocent people. I appreciate the fact that these authors chose to help tell this story and I enjoyed the format it was told in. If you haven't picked this book up yet give it a go...such an eye opener.

Buried Beneath the Baobab TreebyÂ Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, and Viviana Mazza is a heartbreaking account of one girl daily life in her home in the Borno state of Nigeria in late 2013 early 2014, and how quickly her way of life is destroyed when she is kidnapped by Boko Haram. Based on interviews with survivors that took place in the two years post-kidnapping. is a Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani is a Nigerian writer and journalist. Viviana Mazza is an Italian journalist and this fiction story is all the more heartbreaking when one realizes that every moment of it is based on facts.The book is written in brief one page or less stream of consciousness style scenes, similar to and vignettes or journal entries. The structure, narration of the story by an adolescent girl is very reminiscent of Scholastic's Dear America novels. The style makes it significantly easier to read as the story becomes heavier and more heartwrenching.The first half of it novel details her daily life and worries as a 13-year-old girl, from puberty to nerves regarding the results of her scholarship. The desire and importance placed on education are often similar to Tsitsi Dangarembgaâ€™s Nervous Conditions. The story discusses pertinent issues in the current equal access on the basis of gender debate, as the main character often struggles with attending school while menstruating, and skips school, even though she is objectively the brightest student in the class. But it also questions the effectiveness of current measures of development aid, as a â€œpink vanâ€ shows up early in the novel and delivers 4 pads to the girls. The pads are too expensive in their area to be an effective means of menstrual care in their area, so the reader is forced to grapple with the effectiveness of handout style programmatic interventions.A short, well written, and timely story that I heavily recommend.

Searing and powerful, this book is beautifully written and impossible to put down, and handles a tough subject well.

I will be reading this again as well as look for more from this Author... Excellent book!!
