Bhaja Govindam - from the immortal composition of Adi Sankaracharya, 10 verses of this hymn divinely rendedered by MS Subbulakshmi.
It is said that Adi Shankaracharya, accompanied by his disciples, was walking along a street in Varanasi one day when he came across an aged scholar teaching the rules of Sanskrit grammar to his students by rote. Taking pity on him, Adi Shankaracharya went up to the scholar and advised him not to waste his time on grammar at his age but to turn his mind to God in worship and adoration, which became the origin for this hymn.

Yoga (Sanskrit: योग Yoga) is a group of ancient spiritual practices originating in India. According to Gavin Flood, Academic Director of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies[1] it has been defined as referring to "technologies or disciplines of asceticism and meditation which are thought to lead to spiritual experience and profound understanding or insight into the nature of existence."[2] Yoga is also intimately connected to the religious beliefs and practices of the other Indian religions.

Outside India, Yoga is mostly associated with the practice of asanas (postures) of Hatha Yoga or as a form of exercise, although it has influenced the entire Indian religions family and other spiritual practices throughout the world.

The Bhagavata Purana or Srimad Bhagavatam is a narration of a conversation. King Parikshit (Grandson of Arjuna Pandavas), who has been cursed by a Brahmin to die in seven days decides to give up his kingly duties to learn about the goal of life. As he prepares for his impending death, the saint Śukadeva Gosvāmī, who has been searching for a suitable disciple to whom he might impart his great knowledge, approaches the king and agrees to teach him. Their conversation goes on uninterrupted for seven days, during which the king does not eat, drink or sleep. During this time the saint explains that one's goal in life is understanding the supreme absolute truth defined as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna.

There is a story attached to the composition of this Hymn.
