How to Reset a BIOS Password

On Windows computers, the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is updatable computer firmware designed to initialize the computer during start prior to handing control to the operating system. Due to the sensitive nature of the system settings controlled by the BIOS, a password can be set by either the computer manufacturer or the end-user. Some of the most common BIOS producers include AMI, AWARD, IBM, and Phoenix with many manufacturers making their own changes to the firmware prior to selling a computer on the open market. The common methods to reset BIOS password include: Generating a BIOS password using a hash code, entering a backdoor BIOS password, reset the BIOS password using software, reset the BIOS password using hardware, and resetting the BIOS password with vendor specific solutions.

How Does the BIOS Work?

The computer BIOS is the first programming code executed by a Windows computer when the machine is rebooted or turned on. The computer firmware conducts a power-on self-test of the system which is responsible for identifying system hardware and initializing components such as the CPU, hard drive(s), RAM, video card, mouse, and keyboard. Once the initialization task is complete, the BIOS checks the boot devices in order of configured preference (traditional default setting is the computer’s hard drive). The boot loader software is executed by the BIOS once located, and control of the computer is then passed to the operating system. Functionality that can be changed by the end-user through the BIOS user interface (UI) include setting the system clock, enabling or disabling system hardware, configuring hardware, enabling or setting passwords, and choosing the order of boot devices.
Although the BIOS was originally stored on a ROM (read only memory) chip on the computer’s motherboard, today’s computers will store the firmware in flash memory or EEPROM chips that can be updated after the computer has been sold. Once Intel started producing chips for use on non-Windows OS’s such as Mac OS X and Linux, a successor to the legacy BIOS system was required and is called the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI). Although EFI provides a number of improvements over the traditional BIOS, it has not yet gained market dominance on computers running the Windows operating system.

Is There a BIOS on Mac OS X?

Prior to the production of Mac computers using x86 or Intel chips during the later portion of the 2000’s and their use of EFI, OpenFirmware was the BIOS equivalent on all Macintosh computers. OpenFirmware provides similar functionality on a Mac as the BIOS and EFI do on other computing systems. It conducts tasks such as locating attached or installed hardware and uses environment variables to direct the boot process for the Mac. To access the interface for OpenFirm, press the power button on the mac for about 10 seconds. While pressing the power button, simultaneously depress the “CMD,” “OPT,” “O,” and “F” keys once you hear an audible “chime.” Once you are done with the required modifications in OpenFirmware, exit the interface by typing “bye”, “boot”, or “mac-boot” (depends on the version of Mac computer you are using) followed by pressing the “return” key.

How to Rest a BIOS Password By Using a Hash Code

A lot of the major computer manufacturers use a master password generated from a hash code to reset the master BIOS password. This hash code is normally calculated from a unique equipment identifier such as the Serial Number, Service Tag, System ID, or Express Service Code. On many brands of computer, the identifying code will be displayed after the BIOS password has been entered incorrectly three times in a row. On other brands, it may be printed on the computer. On some HP models of computer, the hash code will only display if the “F2” or “F12” keyboard function key is press prior to entering the incorrect password a third time.

How to Reset the BIOS Password By Removing the CMOS Battery

One of the most common methods to reset the BIOS password is to remove or discharge the battery on the computer’s motherboard. If the power to the battery is lost or drained, the BIOS configuration will be reset to the factory state with no password. System settings made to the BIOS will also be lost.
Step 1 – Turn off the computer and ensure it has no external power (ie unplug the power cable. If it has a battery, remove it).
Step 2 – Open the computer’s case or box.
Step 3 – Locate the computer’s motherboard and look for the white silver button battery on the motherboard.
Step 4 – If the battery is not soldered to the motherboard, remove it carefully and wait for approximately 30 seconds.
Step 5 – Put the computer case back together and boot the computer.
Step 6 – If the “CMOS Checksum Error-Defaults Loaded” error message is displayed, the BIOS password has been reset.

Steps to Reset the BIOS Password Using Hardware

If the CMOS battery is soldered to the computer’s motherboard, some brands will have a jumper located on the board that can be used to reset or clear the BIOS password. The location of the jumper on the motherboard will be contained in the motherboard documentation. If you can not find documentation on which jumper will reset the BIOS password, some users will guestimate on which jumper is the appropriate by choosing the one closest to the battery for reset. Another option is to short the points of the battery connection pins to the motherboard (when there is no power being applied to the computer).

Steps to Reset the BIOS Password Using the Real Time Clock

If attempts at resetting the CMOS battery through removal or by jumper fail, another method is to reset the Real Time Clock (RTC) Integrated Circuit (IC) on the computer’s motherboard. This method will work if the RTC requires an external battery. To reset, simply remove the RTC from the motherboard socket with no power available to the computer and reseat. Step 1 – Restart your computer.

Misfeed and cleanning error for CM2320 printer

Q: What is the problem for Misfeed and Cleanning error?
Ans: This error is because of Misfeed. The printer detect that paper which is select for printing is moving too slow or too fast and the print is not properly printed on paper, some part of print is printed on
transfer belt thats why printer cleanning cycle run after every one or two paper.

Solution:
Change the Tray 2 paper feed roller and sapration pad of printer.

1).Raise the printer to gain access to the roller. Use the side frame for lifting the printer. Do not raise the printer using the front door or the paper tray area.

2). There are two locking tabs that hold the roller in place. Use your fingers to remove or snap ring pliers. Remove the paper pick up roller.

3).Release the two cover locking pins and remove the separation roller cover by rotating down.

4).Release the separation roller locking pins and remove the roller. Reinstall the roller cover on the locking pin and rotate it towards the roller until it snaps into place.

5).To remove the tray 1 pickup roller it will need to be lowered by pushing down on both ends of the assembly.

6).Release the two locking tabs and rotate the roller away from the printer.

7).Replace the separation pad for tray 1 by releasing the retaining tabs. The base that holds the pad will be loose when the pad is removed. There is a spring that can fall out.

8).To replace the automatic document feeder rollers open the ADF cover and release the spring that is attached to the end of the pick roller assembly.

9). Lift up on the pickup assembly and slide it towards the front of the printer to remove.

Remark: Many sites and blog suggest paper setting from jetadmin or hp tool box but nothing help me.

1.Remove Strip cover
2.Remove 2 x K/B screws
3.Move K/B Unit up but don’t disconnect
4.Release & Remove Mini Card Wi-Fi Card
5.Locate & short C88 Pin 1 & 2 together
6.Power on Machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
7.As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
8.If machine boots, Password has been removed

Satellite A100 (PSAA2A-02C01N)

1.Remove Memory Cover from base of machine
2.Release & remove right side Memory Module
3.Lift black plastic insulation
4.Locate & short PAD500 Pin 1 & 2 together
5.Power on machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
6.As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
7.If machine boots, password has been removed

TECRA A4 & Satellite M40

1.Open modem & Wi-Fi card cover
2.Remove mini PCI Wi-Fi card
3.Lift up black plastic
4.Locate & short C738 Pin 1 & 2 together
5.Power on machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
6.As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
7.If machine boots, password has been removed

TECRA S1

1.Open palm rest cover
2.Remove mini PCI Wi-Fi card
3.Lift up black plastic
4.Locate & short C5071 Pin 1 & 2 together
5.Power on machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
6.As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
7.If machine boots, password has been removed

TE-2300

1.Remove 2 x B12 screws from bottom of system
2.Remove strip cover
3.Remove keyboard screws 1 x B2.5 & 1 x SF4
4.Remove 1 x 4mm screw & Wi-Fi cover
5.Remove mini PCI Wi-Fi card if fitted
6.Locate & short points as shown in picture below
7.Power on machine while still shorting points
8.Short for 5 seconds
9.Nothing will appear on the screen
10.Turn system off holding down power button
11.Password is now removed

Satellite A60

1.Open Wi-Fi slot cover
2.Lift up black plastic
3.Locate & short C561 Pin 1 & 2 together
4.Power on machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
5.As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
6.If machine boots, password has been removed.

Satellite Pro L40
1.Open Wi-Fi & RAM slot cover
2. Locate JRST1 Between Ram and Wifi slot
3.short JRST1 AND TURN ON SYSTEM.
4. Short for 15 seconds.
5. system is shutdown automatic.
6.turn on the system password is removed.

Toshiba Satellite Pro L650

Locate G1 or c513 and G2 or C514 to reset bios
In some models it will be B500 under ram cover Gom3zNovember 15, 2012 11:29 PM
Works on satellite L650.
Importantly, the “B500″. For better contact, welded a small copper wire between the two plots “B500″.
Place one strip of memory start.
Display the first page of the bios and then extinction of the laptop alone.
Remove the small copper wire and put the remaining memory.
Restart and that’s OK.

Key Disk

Some Toshiba bios passwords can be reset using the Key Disk.exe utility, to do this you need a 1.44Mb floppy disk. Format the disk using Windows and then with a hex editor, change the first five bytes of the second sector to 4B 45 59 00 00.

Then put the floppy into your machine and boot it up, you’ll be asked for a password, just press Enter. Then when you’re asked to set the password, type Y then Enter, this will get you into the bios configuration where you can then type in a new password.

Parallel Port

To make it you will need a 25 pin DB25 plug, take the plug apart and join these pins using some old cable;
Pins:

1-5-10,
2-11,
3-17,
4-12,
6-16,
7-13,
8-14,
9-15,
and 18-25

Plug it into your parallel port and boot up your laptop, the password removed as soon as it boot.

Note: This will work on only ones that have a parallel port.
