An inspirational poem about "Thinking" by "Walter D. Wintle"

If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think you dare not, you don't,
If you like to win, but you think you can't
It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN !

- Walter D. Wintle

Ella Wheeler Wilcox - Life's Scars

2009-12-17T23:29:00.000-08:00

A nice poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox - Life's Scars

They say the world is round, and yet
I often think it square,
So many little hurts we get
From corners here and there.
But one great truth in life I've found,
While journeying to the West-
The only folks who really wound
Are those we love the best.

The man you thoroughly despise
Can rouse your wrath, 'tis true;
Annoyance in your heart will rise
At things mere strangers do;
But those are only passing ills;
This rule all lives will prove;
The rankling wound which aches and thrills
Is dealt by hands we love.

The choicest garb, the sweetest grace,
Are oft to strangers shown;
The careless mien, the frowning face,
Are given to our own.
We flatter those we scarcely know,
We please the fleeting guest,
And deal full many a thoughtless blow
To those who love us best.

Love does not grow on every tree,
Nor true hearts yearly bloom.
Alas for those who only see
This cut across a tomb!
But, soon or late, the fact grows plain
To all through sorrow's test:
The only folks who give us pain
Are those we love the best.

Vodafone IPL Zoozoos are not animated cartoons

2009-05-05T07:14:00.000-07:00

Yes ! You read it right !

Those cute little characters in vodafone IPL ads are human beings wearing body suits.
They are called Zoozoos.

Everyone thought it was cute animated characters.

I came to know about this when I was watching an IPL match at a mall along with a friend, who is MBA in advertising.
She informed me that these are not animated cartoons, but real human beings wearing white body suit and it's the large set which makes them appear smaller in comparison .

And after few days I am reading a lot about these zoo zoos on internet.
So I thought to write a little about this.

My friend also informed me about the company O&M which created the zoo zoos. (link)

One line I would like to add for O&M (Ogivly & Mather) was established by David Ogilvy, who is known as "The Father of Advertising".

Coming back to the Zoozoos,
For a common man, it's an egghead creature with black dots as eyes and mouth.

If you are interested knowing more about zoozoos, please follow the afaqs! link.
It's really an interesting read, especially the making of zoozoo.

Let your mind drift for a few moments

2009-04-28T07:33:00.000-07:00

I had visited Narmad Library at my hometown Surat.

While I was searching for books regarding body language analysis, came across a book of some other topic (I forgot to note down the book name).

I really loved a paragraph in the book, which is about taking time for yourself from your everyday busy schedule.

I'm sharing the paragraph with all of you.

"
Let your mind drift for a few moments

Every so often, during your day, make sure you take a minute to look at the sky,
breathe deeply, and watch the clouds.
Watch fish in an aquarium.
Go to a pretty spot in nature and watch the light move through the trees or
the wind move the grass.
At night take some time to look at the moon and stars and to breate the night air.
Rock in a rocking chair, lie in a hammock, swing on a swing, or hang on a chinning bar.

Let go. Let yourself Be.

Can Penguins fly ? NO ? Check this video !

2008-04-03T23:01:00.000-07:00

Few days back, BBC Camera crews discovered a colony of Adélie penguins at King George Island (about 750 miles south of the Falkland Islands).

Here are the words of Terry Jones, the program presenter...

"But then the weather took a turn for the worse. It was quite amazing. Rather than getting together in a huddle to protect themselves from the cold, they did something quite unexpected, that no other penguins can do."

So according to the BBC team, Penguins took flight to protect themselves from cold and started to flew away !

Here is the video footage of the story.

IIM admission criteria revealed - CAT + Academic Perfornance

2007-07-29T01:35:00.000-07:00

IIM admission criteria was made public, because of a petition by Vaishnavi Kasturi, a visually challanged student.
Vaishnavi could not make it to the IIM Bangalore, even after high score in CAT. She filed petition under Right to Information Act (RTI) [pdf].

IIMs give only 20 per cent weightage to the score of CAT (Common Admission Test).
While 40 per cent weightage is given to the academic performance in Class X, XII and graduation scores.
35 per cent weightage is given to Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).
Chartered accountants get 5 per cent weightage.

So, guys n gals dreaming of admission in IIMs start your prepation earliest, from class 10th itself.

Good Luck.

Harry Potter : The Order of the Phoenix

2007-07-15T09:25:00.000-07:00

The 5th movie of Harry Potter series released on July 11th after preponed from July 13.
It's "Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix".
The movie was released in Surat (my home town) in Hindi as "Harry Potter aur Phoenix ki fauj".

I watched the both versions. No no its not that I liked it too much ;) !

So far the movie was good as far as animation, special effects and acting was concerned, But I personally felt it a little boring.

For the first time watchers of Harry Potter series, this movie was total time pass, but for those who were Harry Potter fans, the film is superb. The reason I found the film boring may be that I am not big fan of Harry Potter, though I liked the previous movies.

It was same story plot of fun in the beginning and much exciting and full of special effects climax with a hint of the next movie of the series.

This time the main attraction (??? ;)) was the character of Dolores Umbridge, especially her smile .. "hi hi" (J.K. Rowling describes as toad-like) !! Everyone hated her as she is always punishing the students and banned teaching the magic in school.

Anyways, I enjoyed the movie at Surat better than at Mumbai.
People were enjoying the movie with whistles and clapppings at Surat, while at Mumbai people enjoyed by sharing comments with neighbours only.

Well, let me stop here.
Ciao till next post.

Google Operating System: Hidden Labels in Gmail

2006-12-01T03:24:00.000-08:00

Google Operating System: Hidden Labels in Gmail

Gmail has many other hidden labels that can make your life easier, so you don't have to use the advanced search:

* label:inbox - search only your Inbox. It's a good idea to keep your Inbox clean.

* label:star (label:starred) - search only your starred messages. You can use the star button like a bookmarking system. Star only important messages.

* label:draft (or label:drafts) - search only unfinished messages. Drafts could be used for storing notes or emails that must be sent later.

* label:sent (or label:sentmail, label:sent-mail, label:sent mail ) - search only sent mail. It may be useful to restrict your search only to messages you've sent, or only to messages you've received if you add a minus.

* label:all (or label:allmail, label:all-mail, label:all mail ) - search all your mail, including messages from Trash (label:trash) and Spam (label:spam).

* label:read and label:unread. Restrict your search only to read mail or unread mail. For example, to find all your sent messages that have unread replies, you can search for label:unread label:sent.

* label:voicemail (or label:voicemails ) - search only the voice mails received from a Google Talk User
