JStockCharts Update- Ease of Movement Indicator

Ease of Movement Indicator (EMV)

Developed by Richard Arms, Ease of Movement (EMV) is a volume-based oscillator that fluctuates above and below the zero line. As its name implies, it is designed to measure the "ease" of price movement. Arms created Equivolume charts to visually display price ranges and volume. Ease of Movement takes Equivolume to the next level by quantifying the price/volume relationship and showing the results as an oscillator. In general, prices are advancing with relative ease when the oscillator is in positive territory. Conversely, prices are declining with relative ease when the oscillator is in negative territory.

JStockCharts provides 14 day SMA of EMV. Users must select a period higher than or equal to 03 month to render this chart type.

Further I have optimized the code of WatchList to ensure more effectiveness of the data displayed in it. for an example I have added a no change color (orange) for two types of changes in closing price. first , If there were no trades for the last trading day or previous trading date for a given counter, there is no point of calculating the change hence such counters rendered in no change color. and second is the most obvious , of which closing prices were same for the two days.

In the following screen capture HSIG's closing price shows as 0.00 because it hasn't been traded for the last updated trading date. other three counter's are self explanatory.

Aroon Indicator
Developed by Tushar Chande in 1995, Aroon is an indicator system that determines whether a stock is trending or not and how strong the trend is. "Aroon" means "Dawn's Early Light" in Sanskrit. Chande chose this name because the indicators are designed to reveal the beginning of a new trend. The Aroon indicators measure the number of periods since price recorded an x-day high or low.

StochRSI
Developed by Tushard Chande and Stanley Kroll, StochRSI is an oscillator that measures the level of RSI relative to its high-low range over a set time period. StochRSI applies the Stochastics formula to RSI values, instead of price values. This makes it an indicator of an indicator. The result is an oscillator that fluctuates between 0 and 1.

JStockCharts update- WatchList & Percentage Price Oscillator Chart

I have been working on a way to enable users to save his favorite/holding shares and daily monitor their trading summary through a single window. The Latest feature of the JStockCharts , WatchList enables users to accomplish this task. It simply provides a window to add/remove your desired shares to the table on the right side, once you updated the latest price list to the application you can go ahead and analyze the trading summary of the shares in your watchList easily by clicking the icon in the toolbar or by going through Tools menu.

Technical Indicator – PPO ( Percentage Price Oscillator)

The Percentage Price Oscillator (PPO) is a momentum oscillator that measures the difference between two moving averages as a percentage of the larger moving average. As with its cousin, MACD, the Percentage Price Oscillator is shown with a signal line, a histogram and a centerline. Signals are generated with signal line crossovers, centerline crossovers and divergences. Because these signals are no different than those associated with MACD, this article will focus on a few differences between the two. First, PPO readings are not subject to the price level of the security. Second, PPO readings for different securities can be compared, even when there are large differences in the price.

Introducing JStockCharts - Technical Analysis tool for Equity trading in Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE)

JStockCharts is a java based charting application with added features such signal generator and historical price viewer. Supports all widely used technical indicators. The system uses a local database to which a price list (WAP File) shall be uploaded daily. The file can be obtained by subscribing to the wap feed mailing-list.

Comma separation code in Java

Displaying large figures without comma separation is quite daunting to the users. For an example just think how hard to discern the value of 9501625237.56 ? Instead of displaying such number as it is we can format the said value using commas which would be more readable , like this 9,501,625,237.56 If displayed likewise An user wouldn't have to waste time deciphering such lengthy values. Here is the code I wrote to accomplish this output using Java to utilize into much larger programs. The method can be overridden or overloaded as you would deem necessary.

Input : Takes the value to be formatted as a String object.

Average Cost Calculator - Redefined

Hey there Fellow readers, After an interval I have some time to look into Trading calculators one of these days. Hence fresh improvements in my projects can be expected in coming weeks. First of such improvements goes in to Average Cost calculator, wherein I have made major overhaul in the code. So the changes may not be apparent. But the UI looks good , the code looks good so I feel much better. And I'm pretty confident that It could be made to a more robust application. Major changes was made to JS code to optimize and avoid redundancies. Data structures have been utilized to store contracts so that all the transactions can be viewed using The Trades button, which is a new addition to the previous version. Number of Trade types have been increased to 4 where Day-Sell and Day-Buy options are included. User can opt to add brokerage to the first contract if the calculated average price is available. This is indeed the case most of the time since the average costs are included in the most portfolio statements. Await for further changes and improvements .Cheers.

Profit_Loss Calculator major UI Update

Profit&Loss calculator has been undergone a rapid update schedule these days and today I modified the structure of the program entirely to facilitate better user experience and versatility. and furthermore on the script I have added Interest calculation feature to cater more accurate cost calculation but of course I made those fields optional so that you may leave them blank. more updates can be anticipated on this week.
On this week I added a simple but useful feature. as you know orders aren’t always filled in full quantities for an example if we place a sell order for some 1000 shares this quantity may get executed by parts of 100,500,233,…etc so In such events you don’t need to calculate how many shares have been sold separately. In the sell quantity text fields just enter the quantities separated by ‘+’ operator and the total sold quantity will be calculated on the fly. (see the image below)

Furthermore I have added profit calculation and Quantity calculation features. which facilitates investor and alike to make their trading experiences more fruitful. More updates are coming up. Enjoy folks. Happy trading.

After playing around with my Profit/Loss calculator for few weeks I decided to develop this simple yet useful average cost calculator for equity trading in CSE. The Scenario is quite straightforward , An investor already has X amount of ABC shares at an averaged price of Rs. P1 and he needs to know what will be the average price if he buy Y amount of ABC shares at Rs. P2. or sell Z ( where Z<=X) amount at Rs P3.

GNOME 3: The Future of the Desktop

This September, a new desktop will be unveiled to the world in the form of GNOME 3. This desktop will change the way people view, work with, and think of the desktop. It's different, it's intuitive, and it follows the current evolution of what the desktop should be. But best of all, it's all about Linux.

The installation

Now for the rough part. Getting GNOME Shell installed and running isn’t easy and it doesn’t always work (no matter how well you follow the steps). My installation is done on a clean Ubuntu 10.4 distribution. The painless way to install is to follow these steps:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ricotz/testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell

If you are lucky, once the installation is complete, you can hit <Alt>F2 and then type gnome-shell –replace. If you ARE lucky you will happily see GNOME Shell take the place of your current desktop. If you are not lucky, you will wind up with an error or two. If you are not lucky you will have to jump through some hoops – those hoops being:

sudo apt-get install jhbuild
wget http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gnome-shell/plain/tools/build/gnome-shell-build-setup.sh
bash gnome-shell-build-setup.sh
jhbuild build

If this completes, try the gnome-shell –replace command again and cross your fingers. Hopefully by now you have a running GNOME Shell instance and can start to appreciate where the GNOME developers are heading.

Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha 2 is out. what’s new?

On October 10th, 2010, Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) will become the thirteenth release of the Ubuntu operating system. of late Ubuntu team has released it’s second alpha to get a early look . Most notable additions are Linux kernel 2.6.35 with enhanced security , Btrfs file system , new Ubiquity (ubuntu installer) and also few UI changes , of course for it’s still in alpha stage many more changes and renovations can be expected in upcoming releases.

Even though my default browser is firefox I use Opera and chrome simultaneously. Opera and chrome have this awesome feature that when we open a new tab it comes up with a page which has several thumbnails providing easy access to web pages. Whereas firfox lacks this feature by default and hope that they add it soon instead of opening a blank tab when we click a new tab icon or menu item.

SpeedDial is an Add-On designed specifically for this purpose. having it installed user is able to access thumbnail view of their favorites instantly without digging for bookmarks.

Speed Dial will be automatically loaded in blank new windows. It can also load in blank new tabs. To configure this, and other options, use the extension settings panel.

Less than one week after the release of version 2.6.9 of GIMP , It’s dev team has released a update due to a major bug , which crashed GIMP when user clicks on a scroll bar from a combo box. so essentially this version doesn’t bring user any new features. meanwhile GIMP 2.7.1 is running on it’s beta stage with ample of improvements.

More details about the release, including a list of bug fixes, can be found in the change log. GIMP 2.6.10 is available to download from one of the project's mirrors.

Google Chrome 6.0.458.1 has been released in dev channel.

Latest dev channel build for world’s fastest browser has been released for Windows , Linux and Mac OS platforms. with several bug fixes. note that this is a developers channel release hence chrome can be unstable at times. I shall wait for the beta at least.

Issues fixed in Google Chrome 6.0.458.1 dev:

· The InfoBar is no longer shown when the user first submits a form;
· AutoFill now continuously updates profile data when the user submits new forms. Profile data is now aggregated and the AutoFill InfoBar has been removed, in order to achieve this;
· When editing a field in a previously auto-filled form, Chrome now only displays unique suggestions;
· Enabling sync no longer freezes Chromium;
· Chrome now starts if other FFmpeg DLLs are present on the system - Windows specific.
