The new staff members will join the Water & Agriculture group, which is primarily concerned with education and research in agricultural water management for food security and sustainability. This includes smallholder and farmer-led irrigation and the management, and modernization of irrigation systems.
We are looking for new staff members with expertise in the field of irrigation design and modernisation. More specific expertise is welcomed in a variety of areas, including innovations in agricultural water use, institutional and financial aspects of the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems; environmental impacts of water management for agriculture; new approaches to water management for food security and sustainability; and irrigation performance assessment. The new staff members will have teaching responsibilities in his/her area of expertise and will be expected to supervise MSc and PhD students and implement research and capacity development projects.

Requirements

PhD degree in Irrigation Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or Civil Engineering or in a related field;
Advanced skills in the design, management and modernization of irrigation & drainage systems;
In-depth interdisciplinary understanding of social, institutional, technical and biophysical aspects of water management for agriculture;
Knowledge of contemporary debates on irrigation development, water for food security, sustainable intensification of agriculture and access to water for poverty alleviation;
Proven ability to conduct research projects and a record of peer-reviewed publications;
Competency in project management and potential for new project and research grant acquisition;
Experience and great affinity with university teaching, preferably at the post-graduate level;
Affinity to working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment;
Excellent command of English;
Willingness to frequently travel and work abroad for short term assignments.

The Sociology Department at Radboud University seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to further strengthen its research in sport sociology and inequality in sport participation and active living. This research position is part of a 2-year research project on ‘Inequality in sport and physical activity under COVID19: Importance of sport for a resilient society’ funded by ZonMw. We are looking for candidates with experience within the domain of inequality and active lifestyle or sport participation. The project provides ample opportunities for data collection and sophisticated quantitative analyses of existing datasets. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be responsible for the tasks described in work package 1 of the attached research proposal. Job description
As assistant professor, you develop and teach courses in the bachelor Rechtsgeleerdheid (in Dutch), in the bachelor Liberal Arts (English) and bachelor Global Law (English), which include courses mostly in the field of legal history, as well as in humanities (European history of the early modern period). You will supervise bachelor theses. You also participate in research carried out by the team of the legal philosophy, jurisprudence and legal history scholars, part of the Department of Public Law and Governance. In the course of your appointment, you will develop a research profile, in line with the research profile and priorities of the Law School. The research conducted within Tilburg Law School is aimed at both scientific and societal relevance. It is organized into several cross-departmental research programs, including Global Law and Governance, New Modes of Lawmaking and Governance in a Multilayered Order, Law and Security, and Law and Technology. Key research themes of legal history include the history of international law, the history of commercial law and the history of public law and governance. The intended ratio between teaching and research is roughly 40%-40%, with the remaining 20% for administrative duties.

This new position within the FPP section focuses on supporting current staff with their educational tasks: lecturing in the BSc and MSc programmes, preparation and delivery of computer labs and in-class tutorials, assessments of exams and assignments, and coaching of teams of BSc students in their final Bachelor project. The candidate is not expected to develop new courses, although she/he can contribute to the extension and updating of existing course material.
A major task for the candidate is the daily supervision of Master students in their final thesis project. This includes the definition of the research topics, which must be aligned with the section’s portfolio and defined in agreement with the section head and/or existing scientific staff. The candidate is expected to exploit the large number of high quality MSc students to initiate and manage a broad research programme in line with her/his professional interests and coherent with the FPP research agenda.
Publication of the results generated within the thesis projects will be encouraged and supported but it is not considered a main task for this position.
Acquisition of external funds for research is outside the scope of this position, although the candidate is expected to strengthen the existing collaboration with industrial partners through cooperative research with MSc students.

As an eScience research engineer you will operate in a scientific environment. Two PhD positions in Historical Archaeology University of Amsterdam - Amsterdam — AcademicTransfer

The Amsterdam School of Heritage, Memory, and Material Culture,
one of the six research schools, currently has two vacant PhD positions
as part of the NWO-funded open competition project Diaspora and
identity: an integrated archaeological and historical investigation into
material life, ethnicity, and diet in the district of Vlooienburg,
Amsterdam (AD 1600-1800). The positions will reinforce global historical
archaeology within the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and
Archaeology (ACASA). The PhDs will be supervised by Prof. James Symonds
and Prof. Jerzy Gawronski. Applications are now invited from excellent

material from a major excavation the heart of ‘Golden Age’ Amsterdam.
One project focuses on household goods and personal items, the other on

You will be working within the project 'Digital Crossings in Europe: Gender, Diaspora and Belonging' (CONNECTINGEUROPE). This project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC), by way of a Consolidator Grant awarded to the principal investigator (PI) Prof. dr. Sandra Ponzanesi (Professor of Gender and Postcolonial Studies, Utrecht University, the Netherlands).

The project aims to investigate the relation between migration and digital technologies, in particular the way in which the ‘connected migrant’ contributes to new forms of European integration and cosmopolitan citizenship. The project explores digital diasporas in relation to issues of gender, ethnicity and affective belonging, focusing on how new technologies enhance new forms of connectivity between the homeland and destination countries, bus also across diasporas. The project pioneers a new interdisciplinary method that combines media studies, postcolonial theories, digital humanities and gender studies, drawing from the humanities and social science. It proposes a comparative approach, based on qualitative digital methods, that focuses on Somali, Romanian and Turkish women migrants who have settled in some of Europe’s main cities (London – PhD1, Amsterdam – PhD2 and Rome – PhD3) and the way in which they keep digitally and emotionally connected to their homeland cities (Mogadishu, Bucharest, Istanbul – Postdoc). The project will chart how different forms of migration (labour, postcolonial and post socialist) impact on the new European order at the local and transnational levels.

Within the project, three PhD positions and a postdoc position (advertised separately) will be available for the following projects:

1. PhD1 - Digital Diasporas: London.

2. PhD2 - Digital Diasporas: Amsterdam.

3. PhD3 - Digital Diasporas: Rome.

4. Postdoc: The Politics of Home

The three PhDs will have to conduct fieldwork across the three migrant groups (Turkish, Somali, Romanian) in the proposed city (London, Amsterdam or Rome). The interaction, collaboration and sharing of data with the other PhDs and the postdoc is expected. The PhD and Postdoc candidates will of course have the opportunity to fill in the details of these projects or expand on them, based on their expertise, the data they gather and their own research ideas, all in consultation with the principal investigator.

Tasks for the three PhD candidates will include:

    completion and defence of a PhD thesis within four years;
    carrying out fieldwork in the city that is the focus of your preference (London, Rome or Amsterdam);
    regular presentation of intermediate research at workshops and conferences;
    publication of two peer-reviewed articles in established international journals;
    co-organization of summer school, exhibition and final conference;
    participation in all training programmes and expert meetings scheduled for the project.

Functie-eisen

    a (research) Master’s degree in gender, new media, cultural studies, anthropology, geography, history, international relations or a relevant humanities and social science background qualification at an equivalent level with a clear interest in migration, digital methods, gender studies, postcolonial theories and ethnography;

Conditions

Three PhD positions can be offered for 1,0 FTE each, starting 1 January 2016 or soon after. Initially for a period of 18 months. Upon good performance and a positive evaluation, the contract will be extended for another 30 months (4 years in total). The gross monthly salary starts at € 2,125.- in the first year, ending at € 2,717.- in the fourth year on a fulltime basis.

The positions are sought for a joint project between the Institute of Informatics (IvI) and the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC).

Deep
learning has been very successful in a number of areas (e.g., computer
vision, speech processing and natural language processing). However,
there has been little work on developing deep learning methods for
predictive analysis of complex network data (e.g., social networks,
trading networks etc.). This project fills this gap and focuses on
statistical modelling of information exchange in transaction networks.
In this work we will use very large amounts of real data from a trading
network (an industrial partner) but the methods will generalize to other
types of networks where heterogeneous data is being exchanged (e.g.,
social networks). We will be developing predictive algorithms relying on
the flow of transactions in the network (e.g., various types of
recommendations as well as detection of novel and significant events).
We also seek to cluster the businesses trading over the networks as well
as the products that are being traded. As information in these networks
mostly comes in a textual form, we will develop methods for inducing
predictive semantics representations of texts relying both on the text
itself but also on the flow of information in the network.

There are 2 PhD vacancies within this project:

PhD1 will focus primarily on clustering and predictive modelling (affiliated with IvI, supervised by Prof. Max Welling)
PhD2 will focus primarily on natural language processing (affiliated with ILLC. supervised by Dr. Ivan Titov)

Close
collaboration between the two PhD students is envisaged. The PhD

Both the Institute of Informatics (IvI) and the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) are part of the Faculty of Science at the University of Amsterdam.

Bone deformities lead to impaired daily life activities, sick leave and disability resulting in high healthcare costs. Current surgical reconstruction techniques are either inaccurate or expensive, yet do not guarantee adequate treatment. In a European consortium, consisting of universities and industry, we will develop affordable surgical techniques for accurate repositioning of bone segments using patient-specific implants. The project delivers 1) 3D planning and implant design software, 2) implants that force accurate positioning and fixation of bone segments, 3) implants optimized for shape and load, and 4) optimized production procedures. The implants will render treatment minimally invasive. Within the part of the project related to this job opening we will develop and study image analysis methods for 3D planning and implant design.

Requirements

You have a background in informatics or physics at the M.Sc. level and a keen interest in developing advanced techniques in medical research. Experience in the field of development of image analysis methods is a preference. The Biomedical Engineering & Physics department (BMEP) is a multidisciplinary research environment in which physicists, engineers, biologists, and clinicians work together to bridge the gap between engineering and physics at one side and life sciences and clinical medicine at the other. The goal of our research is to provide increased understanding of pathological processes and to contribute to the development and improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic tools. The research themes of the BMEP department include oncology, cardiovascular diseases, movement disorders, and forensic biophysics.

AISSR and the Department of Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam
are looking for a PhD candidate who will participate in the NWO-funded
research project ‘Sexuality, Religion and Secularism. Cultural
encounters in the African Diaspora and the Netherlands’.

The PhD
candidate will conduct the subproject entitled ‘Sexual well-being and
relationships among African migrants’. This sub-project is embedded
within the larger research program titled ‘Sexuality, Religion and
Secularism. Cultural encounters in the African Diaspora and the
Netherlands’, carried out in cooperation with the University of
Groningen. The aim of this program is to research how sexual well-being
is approached from three perspectives:

that of (Dutch) organizations working with a sexual health approach,
that of religious actors in the African Diaspora and
the perspective of African migrants themselves.

Each
of these perspectives will be researched with attention to the
particular cultural trajectories they are part of, emerging from
sub-Sahara Africa and Europe. Theoretically, the research program
conceptualizes these approaches in terms of practices and techniques of
the self. Furthermore, the research program departs from the premise
that secularity is not a neutral phenomenon, but implies particular
techniques of the self and particular ways of framing religion and
tradition.

The focus of the project for which we are currently
hiring will be on the third perspective, with the aim of researching and
analyzing the personal biographies and cultural trajectories of African
migrants in the Netherlands. The focus is on the choices they make
regarding their sexual well-being and relationships, and the ways they
understand and experience the different (religious) organisations and
agents they encounter in this search.

The PhD candidate will be
based in Amsterdam at the AISSR and will conduct up to 12 months of
fieldwork in the Randstad, the conurbation in the west of the
Netherlands that encompasses Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht
and many smaller towns in between.

Tasks

Participate in the AISSR PhD programme;
conduct ethnographic field research;
write and complete a PhD dissertation within four years;
10% teaching;
participating in conferences, workshops, seminars and other scholarly activities.

Requirements

The PhD candidate should have the following credentials:

have
graduated with excellent results on a research-based MA thesis in
Anthropology or a closely related discipline such as Cultural Sociology
or Human Geography;
have relevant (ethnographic) fieldwork experience on ideally on gender and sexuality;
have excellent written and spoken English, and ideally fluent in French or Portuguese as well;
to be able and willing to work in an interdisciplinary team;
have the abilities to finish the PhD thesis in four years; i.e., good skills in planning, taking initiatives, academic writing.

Conditions of employment

The
full-time appointments will be for a period of four years (12 months
plus a further 36 months contingent on a satisfactory performance during

The gross monthly salary

based on a full-time position of 38 hours per week, plus 8% holiday
allowance and 8,3% end-of- year allowance, in conformity with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

Shell Aircraft International (SAI) is a Shell Group Service Organisation, which comprises aircraft specialists based in Rotterdam, Houston, the UK and Singapore. Role & Responsibilities:

Conduct operations in accordance with the Shell Aircraft Flight Operations Manual to achieve the high standards demanded by the Company.
Pre-flight planning, preparation, safe operation and security of Rotterdam Fleet aircraft to which he/she is assigned, through the daily flying programme.
Effective and timely completion of such other duties and tasks, both directly and indirectly associated with the operation of Fleet aircraft, to which he/she is assigned by the Deputy Chief Pilot.
Exercising sound judgement when away from base in arranging third party operational support, including handling, catering and transport arrangements.
Providing for the safety, comfort, welfare and security of Fleet passengers from check-in for departure to meeting their contact at destination. To include commercial flight interlining assistance as required.
Ensuring that liaison with SAI Operations and Engineering is effective with regard to aircraft serviceability, post flight defect reporting, husbandry and third party engineering performance, with regard to any aircraft he/she operates.
Maintaining first class standards of self-discipline and personal grooming.

Requirements Experience & Qualification

To act as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) of an SAI aircraft, the PIC must hold a valid Airline Transport Pilot Licence, acceptable to the State(s) of Registry and Operation, with a type rating for that type of aircraft. In addition, the PIC must:
Hold valid First Class Medical Certificate.
Hold valid aeronautical radiotelephone licence.
Must possess a valid passport with no restrictions and current first class aviation medical.
Have a current EASA ATPL preferably with a type rating on an advanced cockpit aircraft.
A minimum total flight experience of: 4000 hours airplane, 2500 hours must be P1, of which 2000 multi engine.
Previous experience of working within a Corporate Flight Department is preferred.
Previous leadership or supervisory experience within a corporate flight department would be an advantage.
Fluency in both spoken and written English is essential with a minimum of ICAO level 4.

Department/Project:

The Logistics & Material Handling department consists of the Warehousing team and Material Handling (Distribution) team for Product Development and Clinical Trials. The department is responsible for materials management including the ordering of material, the warehouse and inventory control operations and the distribution – either internally or in close collaboration with external stakeholders such as other Janssen organizations, Contract Manufacturing Organizations or Contract Research Organizations.

Job Description:

We are looking for a pro-active Operator Material Handling who will successfully support the Material Handling team and who will be embedded in the broader organization. You will be responsible for

- Initiating and controlling of the day to day routine logistics operations and processes

- Planning and coordination of GMP shipments (Incoming and Outgoing)
- Planning and coordination of shipments of CTM material (Incoming, outgoing and between third parties)
- Update the inventory of freezers, quality systems
- Creation of shipment documentation (and shipment protocol if needed)
- Packing the material-under defined temperature ranges (on cGDP requirement)
- Contact with freight forwarders
- Contact with receiving parties and internal clients.
- Write shipment reports for clients
- Planning and coordination of non GMP Shipments (incoming and outgoing) on a daily base and maintain progress on visual boards.

- Participate in logistics (quality) projects

- Meeting with involved departments
- Input on logistics (such as organizing the most appropriate transport methods of materials)
- Follow up on actions required

- Writing quality events if needed

- Initiating the quality event
- Investigate the root cause
- Initiating CAPA if required
- Participate in follow up and lead to finalize with QA department
- Material transfer

- Plan the transfer and support the different departments with retrieving the requested material from the freezer, Liquid Nitrogen vessel or fridge.

- Distribution of material for clinical trials.
- Inventory accuracy by means of cycle count performance and trouble shooting

- Attending training online follow up by Compliance Wire and QA training
- Docspace reviews of cGMP documentation
- Updating documentation in Docspace

- Others

- Archiving of shipment and inventory documents.
- Contact person for ordering, receiving and recycling of Temperature Data loggers
- Answering relevant questions about packaging, methods, storage and inventory for internal and external clients.

The Operator Material Handling will act as a subject matter expert on distribution topics related to our development programs and Quality Assurance. The Operator Material Handling will report to the Manager Logistics & Material Handling.
