Would you believe this? Someone e-mailed me about what a glass of water is capable of - Take a glass of water upon waking up and your internal organs would be activated. Taking one half an hour before a meal aids digestion. One glass of water before a bath lowers the blood pressure and a glass before going to bed avoids stroke or heart attack.How's that for a miracle?

Sukawati in central Bali, Indonesia is a shopping haven for souvenir hunters. Paintings, woodcarvings, wind chimes and many other local handicrafts which one finds elsewhere in Bali originates here and one could hunt for them specifically at Sukawati Art Market.

Just the other day, a young boy who was celebrating his birthday asked me if I would join him and his friends in TS. That's what youngsters in Taiping called Taiping Sentral, I supposed, presently the biggest shopping mall in Taiping. The only cinemas in town are located here and itself could make it youngsters' heaven!

Batu Feringhi, a beach area in Penang was hit by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami but no lives were lost. Hotels such as Hard Rock Hotel, Hydro Hotel, Holiday Inn, Bayview Beach Resort, Golden Sands Resort, Grand Plaza Parkroyal Penang, Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa cater for tourists but most probably, you'd be more interested in its night market...

Penang, reportedly has at its north east corner, the smallest national park of Malaysia. Covering an area of 1,213 hectares, the Pantai Acheh Forest Reserve has a diverse flora and fauns. Spectacular sunsets here also lend the Penang National Park the name - 'Bay of Glowing Amber'.

How many times have you heard that this and that vegetable or fruit can prevent or cure cancer? Now, it's the turn of Sai Yeong Choy which is Cantonese for watercress. UK Scientists say the plant can prevent certain types of cancer as it contains chemotherapy drugs like tamoxifen and herceptin. The vegetable reportedly can also act as anti-angiogenesis agents which turn off the blood supply for cancerous cells. Watercress, by the way, has been used by the Romans, Greeks and Persians to cure migraines, anemia, eczema, kidney and liver disorder and tuberculosis. It needs not be cancer that is troubling you!

A Chinese dinner can be a very lavish affair and especially in an 8-course Chinese wedding dinner, it would come with different types of meat - pork, chicken, fish, prawns and ends with dessert. These days, in Malaysia, you'd even get to eat icecream at the end of the dinner. Great!

Teatime, a light meal snack usually eaten between 2pm to 5pm, may be said to have been originated from England but it could well be from Portugal. It started when Catherine of Bragança married Charles II in 1661. The former brought the practice of drinking tea in the afternoon with her from Portugal.

You'd think two's company and three's a crowd but once television audience had been bowled over by ABC 'Three's Company', the American sitcom starring John Ritter, Joyce DeWitt and the voluptuous Suzanne Somers. The sitcom was a remake of the British sitcom, Man about the house and revolves around three people, Janet Wood, Chrissy Snow and Jack Tripper sharing an apartment in Santa Monica, California.

The most numerous ethnic groups of South Sulawesi is said to be the Bugis. These people live in the port of Makassar and in Parepare and around Maros town. Many Bugis are farmers. While in Sulawesi, I happen to attend a Bugis wedding.

Bali, the Indonesian island in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, between Java to the west and Lombok to the east, is an island with beautiful beaches. Beaches in the south tend to have white sand while those in the north and west, including those between Pasut and Klatingdukuh have black sand.

Health Post: Lemon Talk

Recently, my niece had been stocking the refrigerator with lemons. Lemons, she heard, prevent cancer. The last I read in my e-mail is fresh fruits, lemons included, eaten on an empty stomach or just before meals detoxify our system and prevents cancer. Eating fruits before a meal these ways purportedly allows them to go straight from the stomach to the small intestine. Otherwise, they will stay in the stomach with the other food and ferment, thereby giving rise to problems like a bloated stomach and worse, balding, graying hair, dark circles under the eyes and nervous outburst. And if you have heard that you could get maximum juice out of lemons by soaking them for one hour in hot water, you ought to know too that heat could destroy the vitamins in fruits.
