Safety Tips For Women From Sex Predators

Due to increasing sex crime against women. It is better to be safe than sorry. So here are some tips which can help women in safeguarding themselves from possible threats :

1) What should a woman do if she finds herself alone in the company of a strange male as she prepares to enter a lift in a high-rise apartment late at night?

Experts Say: Enter the lift. If you need to reach the 13th floor, press all the buttons up to your destination. No one will dare attack you in a lift that stops on every floor.

2) What to do if a stranger tries to attack you when you are alone in your house, run into the kitchen.

Experts Say: You alone know where the chili powder and turmeric are kept.And where the knives and plates are. All these can be turned into deadly weapons. If nothing else, start throwing plates and utensils all over.

Let them break. Scream. Remember that noise is the greatest enemy of a molester. He does not want to be caught.

3) Taking an Auto or Taxi at Night.

Experts Say: Before getting into an auto at night, note down its registration number. Then use the mobile to call your family or friend and pass on the details to them in the language the driver understands .Even if no one answers your call, pretend you are in a conversation. The driver now knows someone has his details and he will be in serious trouble if anything goes wrong. He is now bound to take you home safe and sound. A potential attacker is now your de facto protector!

4) What if the driver turns into a street he is not supposed to - and you feel you are entering a danger zone?

Experts Say: Use the handle of your purse or your stole (dupatta) to wrap around his neck and pull him back. Within seconds, he will feel choked and helpless. In case you don’t have a purse or stole just pull him back by his collar. The top button of his shirt would then do the same trick.

5) If you are stalked at night.

Expert Say: enter a shop or a house and explain your predicament. If it is night and shops are not open, go inside an ATM box. ATM centers always have security guards. They are also monitored by close circuit television.
Fearing identification, no one will dare attack you.

After all, being mentally alert is the greatest weapon you can ever have.

Today while surfing the net I came across a nice joke, which I thought should be shared here.

Hair Dryer

A distinguished young woman on a flight from Ireland asked the priest sitting beside her, "Father, may I ask a favor?"

"Of course, child. What may I do for you?"

"Well, I bought an expensive electronic hair dryer for my mother's birthday that is unopened and well over the Customs limits. I'm afraid they'll confiscate it. Is there any way you could carry it through Customs for me...under your robe, perhaps?"

"I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you... I will not lie."

"With your honest face, Father, no one will question you."

When they got to Customs, the woman let the priest go ahead of her. The official asked, "Father, do you have anything to declare?"

"From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare."

The official thought this answer strange, so asked, "And what do you have to declare from your waist to the floor?"

"I have a marvelous instrument designed to be used on a woman, but which is, to date...unused."

Roaring with laughter, the official said, "Go ahead, Father. Next!"

ET Now - The No. 1 Business News Channel

ET Now can now rightfully claim to be the No. 1 biz news channel with 42 % viewer-ship as declared through survey by TAM recently. I too agree with it as it has now become my favorite biz news channel. Earlier when the channel was new there were so things I was disappointed with, but now I think channel’s management must also have taken notice of its flaws and corrected them.

First of all, ET Now’s ticker management has improved a lot. In fact, now it’s even better than that of TV18. I think the experience of Ayesha Faridi must have come in handy in this regard. The channel has hired talented anchors and even attracted well-known anchors from other news channels like Ayesha Faridi, Nikunj Dalmia, Manisha Gupta, Tanvir Gill, Shaili Chopra and many others. So now it has got the best team of News Anchors. It seems everything is falling in right places for the channel.

On the other hand, CNBC TV18 is getting worse day by day. It’s losing its sheen now. It has lost most of the anchors which were the back-bone of the channel to ET Now. Moreover, it seems it is unable to get rid of boring anchors like Lata Venkatesh who is not fluent and lacks the flow (which is the hall-mark of a good news-anchor). She is very clumsy and lacks spontaneity. The channel has now only three-four talented news-anchors like Udyan Mukhejee, Mithali Mukherjee and Sonia Shenoy. Besides, the quality of its programming is also deteriorating.

My Hibiscus Plant

After we shifted to our new house I didn’t had much to do. Since this place was totally new to me, I had no friends here and unlike city I couldn’t take tuitions of high school children also. So I was kind of totally free. Here we have a big compound in front of our house. I spend a lot of time there and it’s quite refreshing because in city it was hard to find an open place where we can get fresh air and plants around us. Our neighbors have variety of plants in their compounds. Since we were new here our compound was totally empty and barren. So I thought of having at least one plant in our compound.

The First Hibiscus Flower

For the First time Plant Produced Three Flowers

One day a plant-seller was passing by with lot of different plants on his cart. I stopped him and inquired him about various plants. I wasn’t interested in rose plant since the climate here in not suitable for it and my previous experience with rose plant was not good. Monkeys never allow rose plant to grow properly. So I was interested in buying plant which gives beautiful flowers. He had many such plants. Many of them were creepers but I wanted to grow plant in a pot. So he showed me hibiscus plant. He had variety of hibiscus plant – one which produce white flower, one with red, pink and yellow respectively. I bought the hibiscus which produce red flower. I got it planted in a pot and kept the pot at one nice corner near our compound gate. Earlier I never saw a hibiscus flower in my life. And my hibiscus plant had only one tiny bud which took two-three days to produce a blooming flower. I was very excited to see a hibiscus flower. When I saw one I was totally surprised to see such a beautiful flower. It was really big and beautiful. Since the flower lasts nearly twelve hours or so. I thought of taking a picture of it. Here are some pictures that I took of the first hibiscus flower.

No, you're wrong!!!

One of these days is Yesterday with all its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains. Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday.

We cannot undo a single act we performed; we cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone forever.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow with all its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and its poor performance; Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.

Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise. Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is yet to be born.

This leaves only one day, Today. Any person can fight the battle of just one day. It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities, Yesterday and Tomorrow that we break down.

It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad, it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.

Let us, therefore, Live but one day at a time.

Many young people today have an "invincibility complex," or the belief that they cannot be harmed by their actions. Consequently, such people don’t care about the harmful effects that can have adverse effects on their health.

While they may be fully aware of harmful effects of consuming tobacco, this does not stop the rise in young people smoking. It is a sad but true fact that youth and smoking and chewing tobacco is a crisis that needs to be dealt with.

How Common Is Smoking/chewing tobacco With Young People?

Smoking among the younger generation is more rampant than many people think. In India alone it is not uncommon to see even the school-going children either smoking cigarettes or chewing tobacco. These trends need to be stopped, because of the dangerous health effects of tobacco consumption among young people that carry into adult life.

Why Do Young People Smoke or chew tobacco?

Peer Pressure

The number one reason that many young people start smoking regardless of the smoking effects on their health is peer pressure. Someone they respect or wish to emulate gives them a chance to start smoking, and tells them they will be fine. The kids do not want to appear "un-cool" and so they start smoking.

Easy Availaility

Cigarettes and gutkhas (masalas) are easily available in neighborhood. Many people deliberately set up small shops selling such tobacco products near school & college premises. Although laws are there which prevents such shops from selling tobacco products near school & college premises, they are hardly implemented due to corruption.

Advertising

Another reason that kids take to smoking is because of the advertising of the cigarette manufacturers. Cigarette ads are aimed at the young, making smoking look like the cool, popular thing to do. Things emphasized by cigarette ads are young adults who have a strong sex appeal, or things that appeal to young guys, like weapons, cowboys, and other things. Kids are given the idea that smoking makes you sexy, strong, and invincible!

Desire to Look Mature

Sometimes kids take up smoking because they want to look mature. After all, smoking is considered an "adult" behavior, and they think they will look cool when they smoke, or that they will look more grown up.

Rebellion

Finally, many kids take up smoking because they want to rebel against their authorities. No matter what the activity, if you tell kids they cannot or should not do something, some will want to do it simply to buck against their authority.

The spread of addiction of tobacco – be it in form of smoking (cigarettes, bidis), chewing tobacco (gutkas, masala etc.) is really alarming. It’s really sad to see young boys merely in their teens getting addicted to such harmful things at such tender age. This is a matter of grave concern considering the deadly consequences of continuous tobacco consumption.

Tobacco is injurious to health, no matter in what form you take it the ill effects are always there. Tobacco are leaves of plant that are used in dried form, they are high in nicotine and therefore addictive in nature. Tobacco is taken in the form of:

Chewing
Snuff
Smoking

The high content of nicotine makes it very addictive, once a person gets addicted to smoking, chewing or sniffing it becomes difficult to get rid of it. At times efforts to give up the addiction fail and person goes back to taking tobacco.

Chewing of Tobacco

Chewing tobacco also known as smokeless tobacco (gutkas, masala etc) is as harmful as smoking. It is a myth that chewing is not as harmful as smoking. Chewing tobacco is made of tobacco, nicotine, sweeteners and chemicals. The continuous chewing process gives a constant high to the person. This high leads gives temporary relief from stress and anxiety. Small temporary relief leads the person to use it frequently and before the person realizes he is addicted.

Chewing tobacco leads to numerous harmful health effects, which can be internal or external. The main harmful effects of tobacco are:

Erodes Tooth

The ingredients of tobacco consist of gravels, sand, and other harmful chemicals that

erode the enamel of tooth. Continuous chewing leads to early loss of tooth.

Early Decay Of Tooth

Chewing leaves small particles in tooth that forms bacteria and plaque, it harms enamel and gums, which leads to decay of tooth.

Gum slump

Chewing leads to decomposing of gums, the gums get infected and the grip on tooth loosens which exposes the sensitive area of tooth.

Bad Breadth

There is nothing as bad as bad breadth of a person; they are major turn off for people around them. The long-term habit of chewing and spitting is unacceptable and looks

indecent.

Affects Eating Habit

Eating habit of people who chews tobacco tends to be unhealthy, continuous chewing affects the taste bud and the sensitivity of them decreases. This leads to an increase in intake of more salt, sugar and spices in food as he feels a bland taste in his mouth.

As mentioned above chewing leads to the early decay of tooth, bad breadth, damaged gums and falling of tooth. The addiction of tobacco affects the area around the mouth. The tongue and jaws face the following problems:

Dis-coloring of lips and lip cancer
Sore Throat
Difficulty in movement of jaws and tongue
Rashes or irritation on tongue
Burning sensation on lips and tongue

Oral Cancer

Continuous chewing process leaves infectious juices on tooth and lips. These deve

lop in white patches that can be considered as an early symptom of oral cancer.

People who indulge in tobacco chewing have higher risk of oral cancer to people who take alcohol. The most infected area in oral cancer is the tongue a

nd the area below the tongue.

The cancer slowly spreads to cheeks and throat. Though it can attack any part lips, tongue, upper and lower mouth, the cheeks, or gums and esophagus.

It is very important to go for early diagnosis as soon as one feels suspicious.

Lung Cancer

Chewing tobacco leads to oral cancer but it is not the end as it can spread the disease in lungs and linings of stomach.

Reports show that 90% of lung cancers are cases of people who either smoke or chew tobacco. Destructive agents termed as carcinogens in tobacco injure the cells in the lungs. Over a period of time, these spoiled cells may develop into lung cancer.

The recent world recession has added many new words to our vocabulary. It enriched the Lexicon with really interesting words. Some of them are as follows:

Bankster: It is a combined form of banker and gangster.

Canniversary: A year from the date when you got canned from your job.

Clunkerf*ck: It is what happens when government issues coupons on cars but doesn’t use the same printing machine as it seems to for a currency.

Frugillionaires: It is used for those who have mastered the art of frugality – living richly while saving a fortune. They bank their bonuses, bring their lunches to work, and borrow things instead of money. But though they are adept at cutting costs, their lives are not about deprivation. Instead, they cultivate a sense of appreciation that brings them wealth beyond measure.

Lazylancing: It is when you subsidize your travel with freelance work after being laid off from job.

Recession: Now-a-days it is used to describe anything sting or lacking. For example: “Look at this recession biscuits. It’s only got three chocolate chips.”

A Heart Touching Story

(Last day I received a very interesting email from one of my friends which had the following story in it. I liked it very much so I thought I should post it here and share it with my readers. I hope you will like it.)

Once upon a time there was a little boy who was raised in an orphanage.
The little boy had always wished that he could fly like a bird.
It was very difficult for him to understand why he could not fly.
There were birds at the zoo that were much bigger than he, and they could fly
"Why can't I?" he thought. "Is there something wrong with me?" he wondered.

There was another little boy who was crippled. He had always wished that he could walk
and run like other little boys and girls.

"Why can't I be like them?" he thought.

One day the little orphan boy who had wanted to fly like a bird ran away from the orphanage.
He came upon a park where he saw the little boy who could not walk or run playing in the
sandbox. He ran over to the little boy and asked him if he had ever wanted to fly like a bird.

"No," said the little boy who could not walk or run. "But I have wondered what it would be
like to walk and run like other boys and girls."

"That is very sad”, said the little boy who wanted to fly. "Do you think we could be friends?"
he said to the little boy in the sandbox.

"Sure." said the little boy. The two little boys played for hours. They made sand castles
and made really funny sounds with their mouths. Sounds, which made them laugh,
real hard. Then the little boy's father came with a wheelchair to pick up his son.
The little boy who had always wanted to fly ran over to the boy's father and
whispered something into his ear.

"That would be OK," said the man.

The little boy who had always wanted to fly like a bird ran over to his new friend and said,
"You are my only friend and I wish that there was something that I could do to make
you walk and run like other little boys and girls. But I can't. But there is something that I can do for you."

The little orphan boy turned around and told his new friend to slide up onto his back.
He then began to run across the grass. Faster and faster he ran, carrying the little crippled boy
on his back. Faster and harder he ran across the park. Harder and harder he made his legs travel.
Soon the wind just whistled across the two little boys' faces.

The little boy's father began to cry as he watched his beautiful little crippled son flapping
his arms up and down in the wind, all the while yelling at the top of his voice,
"I'M FLYING, DADDY. I'M FLYING!"

Moral Of The Story :
Always try to find happiness
by making others happy.

A secret feeling I can’t express,

I composed the following poem on March 25, 2007, when the feeling of Love touched my heart and my entire world changed forever since then.

The New World of Mine

It’s a feeling I never felt before

So brand new and reaching to my core,

It’s lust, love or something really more.

I know not, not for sure.

The world is now a different place.

In every little things

What I see is just your face;

In every sound that sings,

I hear your velvet voice;

In every flower that blooms,

I see your dimpled smile.

My heartbeat just go zoom

When I see it for a while;

In the beauty of your eyes

Want just a little room

Where I’d like to live and die.

Now the world is full of different hues;

Everywhere it’s just you and only you.

You are here; you are there,

I find you everywhere;

In every dream at every night,

I’ve your sensuous frame in sight;

Every night and everyday

Just your lovely name I must say.

My heart is now your slave

The way you’ve mesmerized

Now only you can save

‘Coz only you’ve hypnotized.

The feeling – I’ll cherish it forever;

It’s so sweet and so lovely, I’ll forget it – never

Its love and really something more,

I know its true love that I was waiting for.

Why the Title – ‘Die-Hard Optimist’?

Why I’ve titled my blog – ‘Die-Hard Optimist’? People or the reader may think that I must be bragging or blowing things out of proportions. But there’s a strong reason for being so.

There are a times when I felt really down and out. There are many instances when I couldn’t get what I want or things don’t go the way I want it to be. I could find no way out of the situation. I felt utterly helpless and really depressed. And consequently I began to think that I should give up. But after sometime something shakes me up and I try to find solace in prayer and that power of prayer gives me back my confidence. I resolve to do my best and leave the rest to God, relying total faith in divine help. Then I began to feel positive and determined. And finally, with solid determination I get on with my life.

This happens with me every time I’m in trouble or in stress. After feeling depressed for sometime, I get my optimism back with a bang. There’s always a hidden optimism in me which wakes me up whenever I feel utterly helpless, hopeless, down and out.
