I have been using phplist for clients projects for a long time. I usually use phplist with postfix mail server and it works great. However, the sending speed is sometimes not so good with a single server hosted phplist. Recently amazon introduced their simple email service aka amazon SES, a bulk email service. It works really great, and the sending speed is awesome. If any of my readers want to use phplist with amazon SES, please consult with me. I have put together a script to use amazon SES as the mail sending component of phplist and it will send bulk email at amazing speeds. Banglalion Wimax Review (It Sucks)

When i signed up with banglalion wimax, i took their 256kbps unlimited plan. Their dealer said it was truly unlimited, and no bandwidth cap was applied at that moment. I signed up and was happy with the consistent speed. I installed windows7,msoffice and ubuntu on my pc, and they had huge updates available. I downloaded around 12GB this month. Suddenly, my account is disabled on 9.12.2010. Banglalion had my phone number, my email address(which i check may be 20times a day), and never notified me of my alleged fair usage policy violation. When i called the customer care, they at first said i had bill due(i didn't have due), later apologized and said i was banned for over downloading and will be reactivated shortly. Since then i have called them 10-12 times, and always they say that it will be fixed soon, but it never happens. It's been three days with this situation and they don't answer specifically if my banglalion wimax account will be re-activated or not, if yes, when.

Banglalion customer service is utter crap. Everytime i talked with anyone of them, they gave me different information. The customer service rep Arefin was the best, he told me " Sir, fair usage policy is an international standard adopted by all the ISPs of the world" And he then told me to file a compliant at complain@banglalionwimax.com.bd, that domain isn't even registered yet!

Stay away from banglalion, it's a fraud run by incompetent bastards and engineers.

Update: I decided to stop giving these frauds any more of my hard earned money and bought a qubee modem with a 512kbps sky plan. I downloaded 3GB in a single day and 30GB in a single month, qubee never banned me. I don't need that much bandwidth usually, I just wanted to stress my connection:) I am happy that my money goes to someone who is honest and reliable.

Another great thing about qubee is that they provide public IPs to all their customers and all the ports are open, unlike banglalion who applies two levels of NAT(cheap bastards didn't buy enough IP from BTCL). So, the pings are faster on qubee, and the torrent apps/vpn etc. work beautifully.

Prestashop Paypal Website Payment Pro Module

Prestashop is an ecommerce solution, built with php-mysql. It has lots of built-in modules, shop owners can receive payments from paypal, moneybookers etc. With the builtin paypal module, to pay via paypal, the buyer has to signup for a paypal account. If the shop owner wants to accept from credit cards or debit cards, this module is not enough. There was a module from this guy who later removed it from his site. I found an old copy of the plugin from another link, it works for US based buyers with debit/credit cards. It won't work with UK based maestro cards, however. It works, but please note that to use this module, the prestashop site needs to be SSL and CURL enabled, and the shop owner needs a paypal website payments pro enabled pro business account. This module worked for me till writing this blog post.

Anonymous private http and socks proxy with 3proxy

1. login to server.

2. type #wget http://3proxy.ru/0.6.1/3proxy-0.6.1.tgz ('#' is root shell prompt, no need to type). install gcc by #apt-get install gcc

3. #tar -xvzf 3proxy-0.6.1.tgz

4. #vim 3proxy-0.6.1/scripts/install-unix.sh

5. change the previous file in 3rd line from 'cp Makefile.Unix Makefile' to 'cp Makefile.Linux Makefile'

6. save the install-unix.sh and run it by #./install-unix.sh

7. 3proxy will be compiled and installed. an error message will be shown "cannot create regular file `/usr/local/etc/rc.d/proxy.sh': No such file or directory". don't worry about it.

8. 3proxy binaries and config files are installed in /usr/local/etc/3proxy

9. #ln -s /usr/local/etc/3proxy/bin/3proxy /usr/local/bin/

10. #mkdir /usr/local/etc/3proxy/log

11. #touch /usr/local/etc/3proxy/log/log

12. #vim /usr/local/etc/3proxy/passwd

13. add username and password in the passwd file in the format username:CL:password

14. edit /usr/local/etc/3proxy/3proxy.cfg file as it is now and save it.

15. run by typing #3proxy

i have used vim as text editor, use nano if you are unfamiliar with vim

Grameenphone P5/P6 internet package, use efficiently

Grameenphone P5/P6 packages are data limited packages, taking the most out of them should be a priority.

To efficiently use your data quota, you should follow few things:

1. Use firefox browser with adblocker plus extension.

Ads use lots of bandwidth, so using adblocker saves your bandwidth.

2. Don't use torrent clients.

Torrents uses both uploading and downloading, so while downloading a 20MB file with torrent, you may end up using 30MB or more of your data quota.

3. Use pidgin messenger instead of official yahoo/msn messenger.

Official yahoo/msn messengers shows lots of ads which eats up your data quota, so using pidgin for chat will save your pocket.

4.Update softwares using update packs.

Many softwares provide a smaller upgrader package when new versions are available. Download and use it instead of full package.

5. Turn off showing images on web pages when you only need text information. This will save you most bandwidth in the long run.

Banglalion is expected to deploy wimax from next june.while it doesn't thrill me much as they will start with 128kbps or 16kBps, i definitely want it NAT free. Most ISPs in bangladesh are using NAT now, and thats why lots of web uses are sucks, like file sharing clients. While not everyone may want it, i would like to run a ssh server in my home and connect remotely to it. I dont mind with dymamic IP from banglalion, but ability to open port from my dynamic ip will be so sweet:)

Aktel is the only mobile operator in bangladesh who introduced callblock feature which is a necessary feature regarding the nature of cellphone abusers in bangladesh, but to use aktel callblock feature, subscription is necessary. Its cheap, but it should be a free service anyway. And other operators doesn't provide any callblock feature for users though they receive lots of abuse reports. So,what to do? When u delete some file from your computer harddrive and later want to undelete it, what to do? usually it can be found in recycle bin; but if you've pressed SHIFT+DELETE, then there is not such an easy way to get your files back. The cellphone providers of bangladesh provides internet service via GPRS/EDGE, but they don't provide the services to use the internet service. Im talking about all the potential and appealing services to users, like POP/IMAP/SMTP mail server, Email Push service, Chat/presence service via IMPS/Wireless Village, Phonebook/calendar/notes synchronisation etc. These would have benefitted the users as well as making the carriers' pockets heavier (i know they are already pretty heavy). Grameenphone,Warid and Aktel provides MMS services, where Teletalk and BAnglalink are lagged behind. While inter-operator SMS Services are available for quite a long time, inter-operator MMS Services are not still implemented between Grameenphone/Teletalk/Aktel/Warid/Banglalink. Nontheless, its still possible to send Pictures/Audio clips between different cellphone carriers, and a somewhat MMS service for Teletalk/Banglalink can be achieved. To send pictures, you will need to send them as emails from your phone. most of the modern phones available in bangladeshi market has buit-in Email clients, but most users has no idea how to use them. to use email function, users need POP/IMAP/SMTP server address, where they usually put down their yahoo/hotmail email address and as usual they dont work. Its beacuse these free webmail providers don't give access to POP/IMAP/SMTP servers to their free users. Gmail provides these services free of use, but due to SSL/TLS certificate problems, many phones can't connect to wonderful and secure Gmail servers. So, what to do? You will need an email provider that supports free POP/SMTP or IMAP/SMTP access or both without using SSL. Unfortunately, these kind of servers get abused a lot and usually get drowned due to abuse by spammers. Despite thes, to free email providers has survived for long; inbox.com and gmx.com. Howto Remove safemass.exe virus from Sumon Bross

recently a virus has begun spreading mainly through pendrives/removable drives, which is named safemass.exe. this virus is supposedly written by a virus writer named sumon bross. the virus is quite annoying, and it cant be removed by conventional antiviruses. Fortunately, safemass.exe virus code is not written very well a ssumon bross is not a very bright coder. the immunity from antiviruses comes from its existence in limited subcontinental areas, pimarily bangladesh. Safemass.exe can be easily removed from your system. for that you only need patience

At first, restart your computer and press F8 key.

Windows will prompt you with various boot options. choose the 'Safe Mode'

Now click Start button and click again on 'Search' button

type in "safemass.exe" in the search box and start search. you will find the file in all of your drives. delete all of them. it will also be found in C:\WINDOWS\safemass.exe and C:\WINDOWS\system32\safemass.exe and may be in other locations too, delete all of them.

Restart your PC. It now should be clean of safemass.exe virus

if safemass.exe is not cleaned by the above procedure then you will need more powerful tools, dont worry, the cleanup tool is absolutely free. you will use a live linux operating system. i recomment using a tiny linux named damn small linux. it comes in cd and usb disk versions. if you have a cd writer then burn the iso image from dsl(damn small linux) website and burn it to a cd. then boot your PC with the dsl cd and search your harddrive for safemass.exe. when you something like safemass.exe, just delete it. sumon bross and his crappy virus will be removed. if you dont have a cd writer, or you prefer a usb installation of dsl, then download usb version of dsl and extract it to your usb thumb drive. double click on the install.bat file and you will have a bootable usb drive. use it to boot your PC and remove safemass.exe virus
