This will be my last post on the blog until further notice, not Goodbye as still around but just not with Housewife Blues and Chihuahua Stories anytime soon.

In 2009 my heart was heavy as my Father was ill and had grim prognosis. Book blog contests, book recommendations, shared love of certain authors works and in general anything book related became a welcome "distraction" to take my mind off what was stressing our family out.

My Father is responsible for my love of reading from a very early age, he and I shared first Westerns then later other genres like mystery thrillers then crime drama/murder mysteries and had lots of fun discussing the characters and settings.

When he died on Father's Day in June of 2009 he stayed with me in those memories as well as other shared times when hunting season rolled around and he took me with him to his deer lease.

What helped me get past this loss was setting up and getting deeply involved with the internet community of Book Bloggers. It became something very near and dear to my heart and I have made quite a few online contacts in many countries and many places in the US as well that share my obsession with the written word, be it real books, audiobooks or digital versions.However in 2011 we were shaken both mentally and physically when Bastrop County Wildfires swept through and in a few days changed not only our lives but many 100's of others lives as well.

The biggest change was our access to High Speed Internet that was uncapped Data usage, we no longer have that option.

Since we live in an area where we either use a smart phone with a Wi-Fi Hotspot, a Hotspot card or Satellite Internet we are now limited on our Data use and it is a real pain for someone trying to set up blog posts when it runs out and you have to wait for the months usage quota to start again.

Of course the real kicker was when my health started to become an issue in 2012. September 11th of that year I was finally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and ever since than have had my ability to walk decrease steadily. In the past year and a half have used a walker full-time, a manual wheelchair when traveling to doctors or for testing as cannot walk more than a few hundred feet without legs giving out.

Topping that my leg spasms keep me from sitting more than 30 minutes or so at a time at my computer desk so that limits me on being able to work on my blog easily as setting up posts generally take a couple hours or so as I do more than a weeks worth at a time.Add it all together and my decision has been that the blog will not be "abandoned" but will privatize it for the next year or so with the hopes for a medical intervention that will allow me to conquer some of the symptoms from MS better and also with the hopes that at some point we will be able to get a better Internet Provider in our area so my data use is not so limited.
Until than Thank You All for following the blog all these years, connecting with me both in real life (you know who you are) and online as it has been great to not only find other serious readers but great to discover so many new-to-me authors to read.

I will still read and post the books on Goodreads to keep track, only have hundreds of real books on my shelves and probably 4000-5000 on my digital reads so not likely to run out anytime soon.

Will still be around on Facebook as well on occasion as have many interesting sites that I haunt and people that I keep up with as well, so see you there if you care to join me. Tomorrow November 1st 2015 if you are looking for this blog you will not find it and that is, I hope, not permanent.

My Thoughts

For anyone who has a loved one in the military this intense look at how one young Marine finds himself dealing with the aftereffects of the death of his best friend in the Corp when he goes home from Afghanistan for a month's leave. This story delivers a hard punch to the gut, especially for those who have served themselves as it will bring back memories maybe best forgotten.

Travis Stephenson is only looking for a bit of "normal" after being in country fighting in Afghanistan, however that is not something easy to find or even define at this point in time.

Harper Gray is the girl in school that Travis most wanted to connect with, however in an ill fated decision on his part that ended in disaster when he was a teenager of 14.

All these years later now both Harper and Travis have graduated from their Florida High School, he is in the Marine Corp and Harper works at the local Waffle House as a waitress trying to stack up some cash before going to Maine to go to college to study Marine Biology.

While at home for the first time in a year on leave Travis finds himself struggling to adjust, Harper just happens to make that easier and as they slowly get past the mistakes of youth the pair find themselves finally establishing a friendship which turns into a relationship in no time.

The different characters whose personalities we get a glimpse of all have one thing in common, they help Travis stay grounded and even in many ways help him stay on a course that could eventually prove able to provide a way to cope if not heal from his mental wounds the realities of war have inflicted upon him.

By the end of this short book my heart felt so many conflicting feelings on behalf of Travis as well as his fellow Marines, both dead and alive.

My Thoughts

Having read much of the hype that accompanied the 2011 release of the The Iron Druid Chronicles series kept myself from jumping into buying the books for all this time.

Now having borrowed the digital copy from my library am hooked and since we have the 7th book releasing at end of March in Mass Market Paperback it it time for me to go ahead and join the rest of the fans of Atticus O’Sullivan whose charm, wit and sarcastic humor blend well with the magical elements as well as the action sequences that are brillianty choreographed whether it be he and Oberon together exploring hunting as hounds are fighting their enemies. Hopefully Paperback Swap will have used copies become available if within a reasonable amount of time cannot get to the used book store to see if can get my hands on the series. No hurry my book shelves are as usual overflowing with reading material!

Truly a pleasure to read from start to finish. The character of Atticus combined the biting humor, sarcastic wit and an intelligence that was fresh as well as entertaining in this Urban Fantasy genre.

I look forward to someday reading more in the series someday.

My Thoughts

As a longtime fan of author Linda Lael Miller and a fan of the McKettrick family saga books, although have only read a short list out of all of them, my pleasure with this heartwarming tale that was Lizzie McKettrick's story was fully realized from start to finish.

Lizzie was a great leading character, a true forward thinking female who used the inner strength gifted to her to help others when she herself was frightened and yet facing each obstacle calmly as it came up while trapped with her fellow travelers.

The best part about stories set at Christmas is the fact you know there will be miraculous events that take place, in this case the rescue and subsequent aftermath that lead to not only an HEA for Lizzie and Morgan that is very sweet and heartwarming as well as things turning out positively for all the characters who were involved in the train wreck.

I look forward to reading more about this fictional family in future.

My Thoughts

As exciting an adventure as book 1 Cold Burn of Magic.

My first thoughts on finishing were how much I enjoyed the way in which Lila has once again managed to overcome the temptation she faced to become as big a ”monster” as Victor Draconi, with help from her friends and her own moral compass not only was she kept on the right path but it also allowed her to once again prevail when the odds were stacked against her.

Even as Lila struggles with her new position with the Sinclairs as Devon’s bodyguard and the inability to now be anonymous she makes the best of her situation and even manages to find a way to keep her ”skills” as a thief sharp without actually thieving. A bit of lightness to balance out the darker moments.

This second book was a better look into the machinations of how Lila’s ”magical talents” work and also showcased how much she has changed since being indoctrinated into the Sinclair Family and living in the mansion full time. Also had some really crucial information about her past and some illuminating moments where she realized a few ”life-changing-truths” that allowed her to get perspective on a few of her personal hangups, which were long overdue to let go.

Even though Lila seems to be a mix of Gwen Frost and Gin Blanco she is her own character for me, a character who has flaws as well as good qualities that allow her to stand out even when channeling some of the other two leading ladies characteristics.

I love both the series before this one and am enjoying the Black Blade series so far, especially when author Jennifer Estep slips in a reference to Ashland or The Pork Pit.

For those who have not read Mythos Academy series or Elemental Assassin series this may be easier for you to enjoy as you will not be tempted to make comparisons, for those who have take it for what it is-an urban fantasy that has similarities in both setting and characters but is still unique with it’s own story plot and actions.

April 2016 when third and final book, Bright Blaze Of Magic releases cannot come soon enough for me!

My Thoughts

When it was announced that this series was being written immediately this book went on my wish list, when found out quite by accident that my public library had it available to read the digital version it almost jumped on my kindle all by itself. I was so stoked to get a chance to finally delve into what sounded like a cross between a character who was insanely gifted with power married to a darkness inside her that overshadowed her ability to overcome her need for revenge or her ruthless ambition to become ever more powerful.

Adeline make no mistake is not a hero, she is actually an anti-hero that cannot help herself from lashing out when she feels wronged or threatened.

This world is brutal, it is beautiful, it is cruelly seductive and it’s characters are very charismatic as well as for the most part very well fleshed out.

There are some unexpected twists that come to light near the end, a few times where it is hard to tell the good guy from the bad ones and never a dull moment in between!

To say this was a good book would be the understatement of a lifetime, beyond merely good it was fantastic!

My Thoughts

Daniel Ellison is living a lie, his name was changed five years ago, his age is shown as 17 not 18 and he cannot tell anyone why.

Five years ago at 13 Dan provoked a young boy of 12 to commit suicide by posting a demeaning photo of him on the internet, his guilt is still as fresh as if it were yesterday and if exposed he and his family will be forced to relocate again.
On the first day at his new school seeing another boy being threatened he cannot help but step in when what he knows he should do is ignore what is happening to protect himself and his family, however Dan is not going to turn away but instead stops the attack.

Another student witnesses what happened keeping Dan from trouble with school authorities but that is not enough for Dan as he cannot understand why she did not step in herself.

Turns out he is not the only one whose past holds sway over his actions, Julie experienced a trauma 5 years ago also that still haunts her and is the reason why she made no move to help their classmate.

Bullying, whether it be mental or physical is a very serious problem and the portrayal of the consequences that can happen when one is bullied or one is the bully are depicted truthfully as well as realistically in this book.

The sad part is that the message may never reach the correct audience but it will hopefully make an impact if it does and allow those readers to understand that what they are experiencing is not normal so maybe it can help prevent a tragic ending to their story.

Full of hard truths for both teens and adults alike.

My Thoughts

This was probably one of the weirdest stories have read in a long time, not in a bad way exactly but still not quite what I was expecting.

At the core this is quite simply a book about technology that we better hope never becomes reality, that being said that very technology would have a phenomenally positive impact on healthcare issues if used correctly for healing rather than destruction.

If you are into gaming, interested in the possible uses of nano technology, are a fan of strangely named characters with even stranger mental abilities and enjoy conflicting opinions on what is best for the human race as a whole than you should really find yourself a good spot and sit down and read a copy of BZRK!

Easy Okra & Beef Gumbo-Easy Recipe #45

Years ago I swore that would never eat gumbo, okra is slimy and noxious when it it not stir fried or deep fried which is how our family prefers it to be cooked. However never say never, this was done on a whim since my husband had a huge bowl of fresh okra he picked off the plants Sunday. I am so glad that tried this recipe, it is delicious and no slime either as okra actually stayed fairly firm rather than getting mushy and gooey. This one will be made again as over white long grain rice it tasted great!

What was left in pot after we each had a bowl with rice for lunch.

Easy Okra & Beef Gumbo INGREDIENTS-SERVINGS 6 UNITS US 1 lb ground meat 1 lb okra, sliced (fresh or substitute frozen) [used fresh that we grew]1 small onion, chopped 1 cup frozen corn [left it out]1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes 1 (10 ounce) can Ro-Tel tomatoes DIRECTIONS
Brown ground meat and onions. Season with cajun seasoning while browning. [like Tony Cacchere's](we just used garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper) Add tomatoes and okra. Cover and simmer about 30 minutes, adding corn in the last 10 minutes [if you choose to, we left it out of ours]Serve over rice.What is your favorite gumbo recipe? Other than the finale being a bit abrupt the ending was one befitting the storyline and I personally was well pleased with how this last book played out. I am saddened to say goodbye to Aria, Perry, Roar, Willow, Flea, Talon and even Brooke and Soren as well. However their exploits will linger in my memory for a long time, very happy they made it to The Still Blue though the cost for doing so was a high one.

My Thoughts

Since started with book 1 Under the Never Sky in early January and have been waiting since mid February for book 2 Through the Ever Night to become available through my public library this was a bit rocky to get back into the rhythm of the characters and the world that they inhabited.

However once got past about the first 15% or so the story drew me back in and all the way to the end everything that transpired was easy to follow as well as intriguing once again.

Now that Perry has cemented his place as Blood Lord to lead his remaining group of Tides hopefully he and Aria can be together without it causing dissension as it did when they first met her.

We shall see how it all works out in book 3 Into the Still Blue, hopefully the end of the trilogy will be if not happy at least happier for most of the characters.

My Thoughts

For a few years have read rave reviews of this first in a trilogy by an author never read by me, finally was able to borrow a digital copy from my library and see what everyone else was so enamored of.

As a fan of all things dystopian the premise drew me in, even while at times the different factions get confusing to keep up with you never lose sight of the main theme of the story nor do you get bogged down with information overload which is always a worry when starting a book that sets up a brand new world and it’s characters.

You never know what kind of conveniences in your life truly make it comfortable until they no longer exist, for Aria her eyes are opened quickly when confronted with the reality of being outside the pod that she had grown up in.

Perry has never known a day that did not involve struggling for his existence, when he an Aria find themselves as unlikely allies he can no more understand her former life than she understands his. All that becomes secondary as they learn to work together, facing danger together they forge a bond that takes them both by surprise. A bond that changes everything the two were taught as well as changes the future to come for those they both care for.

This was certainly one to ponder, especially in the world we live in today with all the technological devices we depend on in our daily lives.

My interest is peaked now if only the library had book 2 available at the moment would read it next to see what befalls Aria and Perry and the rest.

My Thoughts

After reading as many books in the In Death series as have done since discovering it so many years ago you would think that there would be a level of detachment reached, not in this case though my revulsion as well as my outrage was very high when reading about the murders committed by Jerry Reinhold.

26 years old but never grown up as he refuses to take responsibility for the decisions he makes over and over again that lead to him being fired from every job that anyone ever helped him to be hired for. Lack of respect for others, lack of appreciation for the opportunities he has squandered, lack of acknowledging that his parents lifelong habit of overlooking his excuses time and again while supporting him when he made demands for help should have been rewarded with greater effort on his part rather than his slacker attitude and most of all Jerry believes that he is someone that the world has shortchanged and he wants what is owed him without it inconveniencing him!

Interwoven with the usual give and take with her fellow Homicide group, the steps of the investigation, the lovely banter and byplay with husband Roarke and of course the onslaught for the Thanksgiving holiday of family and friends this has lightness amidst it’s darker scenes.

With no doubt this sleaze Jerry Reinhold was one of the worst antagonists Eve and Roarke has been up against and his murders some of the most heinous to date.

My Thoughts

I sat on this book for close to a week after reading because it was so hard to share my thoughts without sharing spoilers to the story.

After having thought it through this is what I have come up with that hopefully reveals enough without it being too detailed or too vague.

From the beginning of this series with book 1 To Catch A Bad Guy-Janet Maple #1 Janet Maple and Dennis Walker have shown themselves to be resourceful and smart singly as well as together in their investigative endeavors.

The chemistry they share really took off in book 2 Catching The Bad Guy-Janet Maple #2 and in book 3 Bad Guys Get Caught-Janet Maple #3 fans get the pleasure of seeing them become engaged.

Now in this 4th book Bad Guys Don’t Win-Janet Maple #4 we find Dennis dragging his feet, Janet overwhelmed with trying to get the wedding details perfected while still working on her case load at Kirk Investigations, a closed case reopened that threatens to further estrange the couple, a new romance for Mila that may go away if her past catches up with her and Janet’s dog Baxter proving that even with four legs and fur he can be a hero.

Be ready for another exciting ride with this couple as they untangle a web of deceit, risk their relationship, prevail over the villains and at long last get their happy ending!

Janet and Dennis have my heart, they are as dynamic a duo as one could hope for and "sidekick" Baxter is one smart pooch!

My Thoughts

As book 1 Lament so aptly illustrated music is a power that can be harnessed and used in ways that it was never intended for.

James peaked our interest when he was only the secondary supporting character of Dee, as the object of his affection she never knew just how much he meant to her until seeing just how much he cared for Nuala midway through this story.

What started out as a fairly simple plot soon became very complicated, not in a way however that one could not follow rather in a way where every little connected piece of information is more than the sum total of their individual parts.

This is a story that will stir your passion for creativity as it’s characters are very talented, it will also make you look in the closet or under the bed for the boogeyman even if you stopped believing years ago.

Loved the pacing, the character building, the way that this book captured the mystery of the first while still being it’s own separate entity. The only thing that remained open ended for me was whether or not the love triangle between James, Dee and Nuala would ever be resolved. If there are more stories to come in this world created for us so well by the author than would be glad to read them.

Poor James, poor Dee and poor Mr Sullivan this was a very trying tale on all their accounts that really summed up that this was no children's "fairy tale" because these faeries were wicked adversaries with agendas that almost proved to be unstoppable.

My Thoughts

I did not realize this was the debut novel that started author Maggie Stiefvater’s career, to me it read like it was written by someone who had been at it for years.

This was everything weird, wonderful and elegant that I expected in the story. Faeries are not portrayed as cute little winged creatures but rather beautifully deadly monsters who charm and than kill without blinking or conscience.

Lament was the beginning and looking toward seeing how it plays out for Deidre's best friend James in book 2 Ballad which have already borrowed from library to read soon.

One-Pan Roasted Chicken, Pepper and Potato Bake- Easy Recipe #44

This is not the recipe that inspired me to cook this as I used pre-seasoned chicken thighs rather than making the suggested seasoning in the original recipe. I also used less than an onion and the veggie seasoning is a combination that we prefer as it is not overpowering even with the addition of the chili powder to spice it up a little more.

One-Pan Roasted Chicken Pepper and Potato Bake Recipe Inspired by recipe posted on South Your Mouth INGREDIENTS 6-8 pre-seasoned chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on){ For seasoning the vegetables use}3 tablespoons olive oil1 to 1 1/2 tsps of garlic powder1 to 1 1/2 tsps of seasoned salt1 to 1 1/2 tsps of onion powder1 to 1 1/2 tsps of black pepper[1 to 1 1/2 tsps of chili powder if you like a little more spice] 6-8 potatoes of choice (used baby red potatoes)1 large onion (used yellow sweet about 1/2 onion)1 sweet bell pepper (I used a whole large green one) DIRECTIONS Spray an 9x13 baking pan with cooking spray then arrange chicken on pan. Bake, uncovered, at 300 degrees for one hour to an hour and a half depending if chicken is defrosted already or not. (mine was frozen so it took longer)Wash potatoes and cut into cubes (you may want to leave the skin on) then add to a large bowl. Cut onion and bell pepper into chunks and add to potatoes. Add 3 tablespoons olive oil and seasoning ingredients to vegetables and toss to coat. Set aside. Remove chicken from oven and pour off any liquid from the pan (reserve for making Rice if desired). Add vegetables to pan around the chicken pieces. Return pan to oven and continue baking, covered, at 350 degrees for one more hour. (Tried cooking rest of way at 300 and it never got hot enough to cook vegetables all the way through so upped temp.)What kind of potatoes do you prefer to use for cooking in this dish?

My Thoughts

Passionate, searing chemistry, devastating heartache, horrid traumatic past events, boldly innovative and exactly what I wanted to read by one of my favorite authors Nalini Singh.

This is the 3rd book and not having read the 2nd still feel thrilled that Schoolboy Choir members are going strong both professionally and personally as friends, they are maturing nicely into a solid group of young men.

Kit and Noah made a great relationship experience come to life, the at times almost unsurmountable obstacles they faced were very sensitively explored and even when one felt complete despair for the two of them the hope was still there that things would work out right.

The brutal honesty that it takes for this fictional couple to make a life together is raw, at times emotionally painful and in both their cases hard to stomach as they are both scarred by the very people who gave them birth and who should have been supportive parents rather than indifferent to their needs.

When read those parts of the book my stomach clenched and I was very grateful for my own real life parents love and care as I grew up, even though at times it was smothering still knew they were there if needed rather than leaving me to fend for myself.

What I really loved about this book was the fact that all the characters were so supportive of each other, they were ”family by choice” not blood and the ties were unbreakable even when they were strained by anger.

What is the appeal of a male leading character who has a tortured soul from traumatic experiences in his past? My thought is that like this fictional character of Noah St. John most women are like Kit they feel the need to make it better so they allow more latitude for screwing up on the man's part, in real life not so much for most women.

What helped in this story is the fact that Kit herself had issues that kept her coming back to Noah and giving him another chance.

Reading as the two of them worked out their problems was at times intense and at other times joyful but never dull.

The twist of illusion becoming reality was well done, skillfully orchestrated in a realistic manner and for me a lovely finale to the long overdue happy ending for both Kit and Noah.

Not sure what is next in this series but am looking forward to it.

My Thoughts

Alex Craft was a nice find in 2010, cannot believe this book released almost 3 years ago and the next one is out this summer of 2015

One thing comes to mind when thinking about this particular book, it is very much action driven. At times it is non-stop and neither the reader or Alex have a chance to catch their collective breath, loved it that way as it gave me plenty to process when set the book aside and before starting back up made me that much more anticipatory of what trouble Alex would manage to land herself in next.

From almost dying multiple times throughout the book to finally getting the chance to take things to a more personal level with Death there is never a dull moment for Alex. To top it off the investigation she finds herself involved in becomes much more than just looking into suicides, it pits Alex against an evil entity the likes of which she has not yet encounters and one that not only puts her at risk but manages to threaten the well being of one of her best friends.

Than when things seem like they cannot get any worse they do, of all the outcomes that Alex had envisioned when she started her quest to solve what turns out to be multiple murders things did not go as planned to say the least.

From the action, to the suspense, to the romance and at the end the ultimate surprise cliffhanger ending this was a great addition to what is still one of my favorite series. One that I really need to follow up with when next book releases in late summer of 2015, things are totally whacked out weird more than normal for Alex and not in a good way either so book 4 should really be even more intense than the first three were!

My love for the series is as fresh now as years ago when discovered it and hope to get a chance to follow it for years to come.

My Thoughts

For me this was somewhat of a letdown after the passionate intensity of the first two books, to say this third book fell short is too harsh but for most of the read it did not strike the same chord of emotional connection as the previous books had done.

Partly think this was due to the fact this was more of a "thinking" kind of story rather than action oriented, that meant deeper concentration which in turn meant "drier" content to digest.

It was still full of nerve wracking danger for Cia and the others, with the stakes raised even higher and the sacrifices made even more heartbreaking but in the end the final twist was in character for what I expected.

Inside Out Grilled Cheese-Easy Recipe #43

The humble grilled cheese never tasted so good! The bread is high in calorie content though, as are the rolls so this is by no means a diet friendly sandwich but for an occasional splurge it is really tasty and very very filling too.

This is one small slice out of the entire sandwich, it made 6 slices this size

Ingredients:
1 (12- pack) King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (Used 1 loaf of King’s Hawaiian Sweet Bread instead)1/2 lb. honey ham, sliced (can also use package of smoked or honey ham lunch meat slices)1/4 lb. sliced Provolone cheese1 tsp. seasoned salt (left out)1 tbsp. dried minced onion(left out)1/2 cup mayonnaise(used canola oil spray instead)Directions:
Cut Loaf of Bread in half. Just make one long even cut. Note: I spread out a long sheet of parchment paper or wax paper on my counter before preparing these. It just makes the clean up easier when I'm done. Then flip the bread inside out. The outsides of the bread loaf are now going to be your insides!Start placing the ham down on top of the bread. Just layering it as even as you can.Now top with the sliced cheese. Sprinkle the seasoned salt and minced onion on top of the cheese layer.Gently place the other half of the bread on top. Spray the outside of this bread layer with an evenly and generously with canola oil spray. Start heating up your large pan or griddle on medium-high heat.Once your skillet has heated up, place entire sandwich (very carefully) sprayed-side down onto the skillet. Then spray canola oil on the side that is now on top. Put the lid on and let the one side get golden. This will also help the ham and cheese warm up.Once the bread has started to turn golden brown, flip the whole thing over. I actually used two spatulas (one on each end) to help me flip it over fairly easily. Put the lid back on (keeping heat on medium) and allow the opposite side to brown and to allow the cheese to finish melting. Place the entire sandwich onto a serving platter or a large plate and slice!Have you made anything using Sweet King's Hawaiian Bread or Dinner Rolls before?

My Thoughts

We return to find both Cia and Tomas having arrived at the University in Tosu City, after surviving The Testing trials it would seem that life for the lucky pair should be easier but in reality this next phase of their journey is filled with as many if not more pitfalls than their past experiences.

I found myself once again cringing over and over as Cia finds herself in situations that prove to her the leaders of The United Commonwealth do not have the best interests of common citizens at the forefront of their plans but rather a future reign of tyranny that threatens those Cia loves as well as many others who have no idea just how tenuous their right to live has become.

The stressful tension of trusting the wrong person is almost overwhelming for Cia, the fact that she even stays alive in this second of the trilogy owes as much to luck as skill on her part.

A true testament to the power of the written word and it’s ability to shock, awe and entertain us while also giving us a lot to think about within it’s lessons.

My Thoughts

There is an estrangement between Mickey and Myron that started when the Bolitar brothers had a falling out and has carried over after Mickey’s father died. With the best of intentions Myron moved Mickey and his mother into his home, enrolled her in drug rehab and Mickey into the local high school but the road is rocky for all of them.

From the beginning of the story you can see where Mickey and his Uncle Myron share similar characteristics, from their athleticism to their ability to attract trouble the Bolitar boys are indeed undeniably related.

They also share an ability to befriend those who are not socially adept, in Mickey’s case that means the goth Ema and the nerd Spoon.

This was totally in character for a member of the Bolitar family, even though Mickey is a teen he has the same disregard for personal safety as his uncle and also the same knack for getting into tight spots thanks to getting involved in situations he should have stayed out of.

Not sure what the future holds for young Mickey but this first book left a lot of unanswered questions for readers so even though this particular story arc was pretty complete there is still room for future adventures which look forward to reading.

My Thoughts

I found myself in a bit of a quandary having read Shelter, which follows Myron's nephew Mickey as the main character, before reading Live Wire where we are first introduced to Mickey.

I thought that this was indeed a turning point for Myron in many ways, it really cemented that his longtime estrangement from his younger brother Brad had eaten into his conscience for the entire 16 years they had spent apart and it also made it clear that no matter what we do with the best of intentions sometimes things just work out wrong.

This was a masterfully executed family drama incorporating all of the elements of danger, mystery, suspense and sarcastic wit that has come to be expected from Myron's adventures. There was also a few twists not least of which of course was all the effort spent setting up how it came about that every event tied together by the end in a way that seemed believable as well as reasonable and setting up the beginning for the spin off series with nephew Mickey which I think will appeal to more than it's target audience.
