Rolls Royce see Sales Surge...

While the average Joe may be struggling to find a way to keep up with the rising cost of fuel and food in the current economy, luxury automobiles are apparently a hot commodity, according to Rolls-Royce predictions for the next quarter.

Rolls-Royce recorded a record year of sales in 2010 with a 167 percent spike in sales in one year, having moved 2,711 vehicles in total. Reuters says that the luxury automaker credits its “cheaper” Ghost, which starts at just $246,500, for the boost, and also predicts its sales worldwide to more than double in the coming quarter.

“One of the things that Ghost has brought is a more viable business case in more cities,” said David Archibald, president of Rolls-Royce North America. Due to the lower entry point, the automaker intends to add three dealers to its network in China before year’s end. While adding three dealers may sound insignificant, consider that the whole of China will only then contain 11 dealers, and it will have the second most dealers for a country behind only the United States.

BMW’s ultra-luxury division has a total of 81 dealers worldwide.

So what are the most exclusive cars in the world? Here's our pick of 10 of the rarest, most expensive, exclusive and fastest cars on sale in recent years. What do you think and has your favourite been included?

1. Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione SpiderOriginally a concept from 2003, the coupe version of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione became a production reality in 2007. Just 500 of the carbon-fibre bodied, Ferrari-powered sportscar were sold. Next, came a production version of the Spider convertible in 2009. Built by Maserati, another 500 cars were available. Top speed was 180mph, with the Spider fitted with a two-layer electrically operated fabric roof. The windscreen frame is also made of carbon fibre to try to maintain a 50/50 weight distribution.

2. Aston Martin One-77
Spring 2011 will see the lucky 77 buyers take delivery of their £1.2 million One-77 hypercars. One-77 highlights include the carbon-fibre monocoque chassis (which keeps the weight down to a waif-like 1500kg), the handcrafted aluminium bodywork and the 20-inch forged alloy wheels. A great car needs a great engine and the One-77 promises not to disappoint, with what Aston claim is the world's most powerful normally aspirated production engine, a 7.3-litre V12 producing 740bhp and 553lb ft of torque.

3. Bugatti Veyron Super Sports A legend in its own lifetime, the Bugatti Veyron boasts up to 1183bhp in Super Sport trim from the 8-litre W16 quad turbo engine and an equally shocking £2 million price tag. Just 30 of the Super Sport version will be produced and all the owners can be safe in the knowledge that it's the fastest road-legal car in the world - with a top speed of 267.85 mph. The original version is hardly slow either with a top speed of 253.52 mph. Sadly just a toy for the wealthy few, this car could possibly be the greatest piece of engineering ever.

4. Ferrari P4/5 by PininfarinaThe Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina is a one-off sports car built by Pininfarina for James Glickenhaus, a stock exchange magnate and known car collector. Based on an Enzo Ferrari - itself a rare car, Glickenhaus liked the look of 1960s Ferrari race cars and the styling of the P4/5 is designed to look like a modern version of the 330 P3/4. Reputed to have cost $4 million, Gilkenhaus is currently working on a race version of the car that is based on a Ferrari F430 Scuderia and will compete this year at Le Mans.

5. Koenigsegg CCXR EditionThe Koenigsegg CCXR Edition is an ultra exclusive version of the standard CCXR, one of the fastest production cars in the world. While completely road legal, the CCXR is designed for the track first. Top speed is 254mph, but what's really clever is that it can run on biofuel, premium gasoline or a mixture of both. The CCXR can also make use of its full 1018 horsepower when running off any type of fuel. Just six will be produced, priced at £415,000.

6. Lamborghini ReventónThe original Reventón was shown for the first time at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. Just 20 of these one million Euro supercars were produced, making it the most expensive Lamborghini road car to date. Then, a Roadster version was shown at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, which was even more exclusive as just 15 were produced at a 1.1 million Euro price. It might be a Murcielago LP40 with a fancy carbon-fibre body and matt paint finish, but other unique Reventón features included an instrument panel that comprised of three TFT liquid crystal displays.

7. Lexus LFAOriginally a concept from 2005, Lexus then teased us with a game of 'will they or won't they'? In 2010 they finally did and the result for the lucky 500 owners is stunning. Firstly, there's the exterior and interior which are unique and feel wonderfully bespoke. Then, there's the engine, a mega 552bhp, 5.2-litre V10. Accelerate and it sounds fantastic, I can only compare the soundtrack to the howl of an F1 car. This £340,000 supercar is not quite perfect, the auto box is clunky and the steering lacks feel, but it's an amazing first attempt at a supercar.

8. Mercedes Mclaren SLR Stirling MossThe Mercedes McLaren SLR Stirling Moss was the last of the SLR production built under the partnership between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren. Just 75 cars were produced, with styling inspired by Sir Stirling Moss's winning 1950's 300SLR race car. As thus, this extreme version of the 220 mph supercar had no roof or windscreen. The SLR Stirling Moss had a recommended retail price of £627,000 and was only offered to current SLR owners.

9. Pagani Zonda R
Just 16 of these 1.456 million Euros (plus local taxes) track day toys will be produced and the R has to be the most extreme version of the Zonda ever made – money no object. Despite looking like a Zonda, the R is almost entirely new, sharing only 10% of the Zonda F's components. Output has increased to 750 bhp at 11000 rpm and 723 lb ft of torque. Highlights include a lightweight carbon fibre high performance intake system, racing multiple disc centered clutch and a Formula One-style exhaust system. The engine is combined with a 6-speed transverse-mounted manual sequential synchronised gearbox. Engine was built by Mercedes-AMG.

10. Porsche 911 Sport Classic
The Sport Classic was a limited edition 911 inspired by the classic 70s Carerra RS 2.7. Limited to just 250 units, special features include the double-bubble roof, wider rear body, fixed RS-style rear spoiler, special fuchs-style alloy wheels, brown leather trim and the one-off Sport Classic Grey body colour. It wasn't just the exterior and interior of the 911 Sport Classic that were special, underneath there was a unique 402bhp engine too. All cars were sold out quickly to collectors, despite the £140,000 list price.

Somebody once told us that when you already have a good thing, it’s best to leave it the heck alone, especially if that ’good thing’ happens to be a matte purple wrapped Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce.

Then again, nobody said anything about making a good thing better. While we have always professed our undying love for supercars decked in matte wrapping, our jaws almost fell to the floor when we caught sight of this spectacular beaut.

Apparently, the owner of this Murcielago SuperVeloce decided that matte wrapping just wouldn’t be enough to highlight his glorious Italian bull of a supercar. So he decided to get rid of the matte and have his supercar wrapped in a purple chrome foil. And we’re not even paying that much attention to the set of ADV.1 Deep Concave ADv05 wheels the Murcielago is sitting on. We love the wheels too, by the way.

But the shining purple chrome look of this Murcielago is what really sets it apart from a lot of fancy-colored Lamborghinis we’ve seen in the past. In the words of Charlie Sheen, this Murcielago SuperVeloce is definitely WINNING!

Inspired by the Trofeo GranTurismo MC and the race-winning GT4 motorsport models, the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale will have more power, less weight, razor-sharp handling and a top speed of over 300 km/h. With 330kW (450 horsepower), the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale generates more power (7 kW, 10hp) from the 4.7-litre V8 engine than the GranTurismo S, while its 510Nm of torque is a further 20Nm improvement. Its race-bred heritage is highlighted by a 110kg weight reduction from the GranTurismo S, down to 1770kg. It mirrors Maserati’s racing advantages by retaining an optimal 48 : 52 weight distribution, ensuring balanced handling and even tyre wear.

The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale uses advanced electronics to cut gear-shift times from the upgraded MC Race Shift electro-actuated transaxle gearbox to just 60 milliseconds. This all helps to slash the 0-100km/h sprint time, which the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale covers in just 4.6 seconds.

The Aston Martin Virage sits between the enduringly elegant DB9 and overtly sporting DBS, providing customers with a car that remains luxurious and understated but delivers increased performance and crucially performance that is always accessible for effortless driving. Aston Martin’s revered hand-built 6.0 litre V12 engine produces 490 bhp (365 kW/497 PS) and 570 nM (420 lb. Ft) of torque and through its carbon fibre prop shaft, is mated to a six-speed Touchtronic II automatic transmission mounted on the transaxle contributing to perfect 50:50 weight balance.

Aston Martin Virage will be delivered with Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes as standard, offering progressive and tremendous stopping power. The Aston Martin Virage sits low and wide asserting the power which lies beneath; single bi-xenon headlamps follow the lines of the car’s flanks to give a more crisp and modern look from the front. A new aluminium metal front grille, inspired by the One-77, features five horizontal vanes which are chamfered creating an aerofoil profile. The new front bumper is pure and relieves the car of any visual complexities, contributing to the overall simplicity of design. For the first time on an Aston Martin the Virage coupe also uses a shear panel at the rear of the car, again to enhance strength and rigidity.

Sitting at the heart of any Aston Martin sports car is an evocative engine and no more so in the new Virage which adopts the famous hand-built 6.0 litre V12 which is assembled in Aston Martin’s bespoke engine plant in Köln, Germany. The Aston Martin Virage engine produces 490 bhp (365 kW/497 PS) and 570 nM (420 lb. Ft) of torque and is identified from other V12s in the family with a black plenum. The plenum houses a new ‘five pillar design’ increasing the rigidity of the manifold delivering an improved sound quality. The V12 has been designed to deliver over 85% of Virage’s peak torque at only 1,500 rpm providing for instant and crucially, real-world useable traction.

In coupe form, Aston Martin Virage is available as a 2+2 or a 2+0 as an option, the latter providing a rear parcel shelf ideal for soft bags, while also reducing weight.

VERY RARE - Ferrari 458 Challenge..... Stock Car Available!

Top Gear Feature.....

This is the Ferrari 458 Challenge, unveiled for the first time in public at the Bologna Motor Show. And it's not for girls. As you would deduce from its rather adversarial name, the 458 Challenge is a racing version of this year's glorious rear-drive coupe from Maranello, a coupe which, don't forget, Jeremy declared "absolutely, unbelievably, mesmerisingly, brilliant"...

It's designed to compete in a one-make race series, which, says Ferrari, puts "driving emotions at the fingertips of its gentleman-driver clients".

As such, the 458 Challenge has been sent to Fat Camp and had its oily bits tweaked to make it two seconds quicker around the Fiorano test track than its predecessor, "resulting in a new record of just 1m 16.5s".

Ferrari hasn't yet explained exactly how much weight has gone, but it has come via lightweight materials - carbon fibre and something called Lexan - and reducing the thickness of the body panels. Be assured then, the noise from that raucous 4.5-litre V8 will reverberate rather gloriously.

The V8 hasn't been touched and still pumps out 563bhp, but the gear ratios and calibration of the dual-clutch F1 ‘box have been modified to give higher torque at lower revs. It also gets Ferrari's E-Diff and ‘F1-Trac' - the traction control system which constantly monitors grip levels to allow racers to lay down maximum track carnage.

The Challenge also comes with stiffer springs, single-rate alloy dampers, forged 19in rims, a 50mm lower ride height, Brembo brakes (as on the 599XX) and Pirelli slicks.

It's on display in Bologna right now, and you might just want to head down there because Ferrari has marshalled a few more of its creations. More specifically: the F430 GTC racer owned by the AF Corse team, the FXX, 599XX and F60 2009 F1 car. Wanna take this lot on? You better come with steel-plated stones, friend...

The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine in the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé delivers a maximum output of 336 kW (457 hp) and peak torque of 600 Newton metres for outstanding performance: the coupé is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and the top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited).

The new C63 AMG Coupe variant benefits from all the technology updates that have been adopted on the C63 AMG saloon and estate models. Deploying the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with “Controlled Efficiency” mode as standard and a new power steering pump reduces fuel consumption: the combined NEDC figure for the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé is 12.0 l/100 km.

As is typical for AMG, the car has a striking, arrow-shaped front section with the new AMG front apron including a lower cross strut painted in high-gloss black, AMG-specific LED daytime running lights and side air outlets. The large Mercedes star sits on a wing-shaped transverse louvre in the new radiator grille and, in conjunction with the modified aluminium bonnet with its powerdomes, underlines the impression of masculinity that the car exudes. Another eye-catching feature is the new clear-lens headlamps, especially when the optional Intelligent Light System (ILS) is also specified.
The wide front wing bearing the “6.3 AMG” legend, AMG side sill panels and the new 5-twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey with a high-gloss finish dominate the side view. Good contact with the road is provided by the wide 235/40 R 18 (front) and 255/35 R 18 (rear) tyres.
At the rear, the unique AMG rear apron has a distinctive, black diffuser insert and three pronounced diffuser fins. The two chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system also attract attention.
Available as an option, designo leather appointments give the interior a particularly exclusive character: four single colours and three two-tone combinations are available. These can also be complemented with “extended black designo leather appointments” for the top section of the dashboard.

As for the CLS63 AMG, an “Edition 1″ of the new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe is also available. The Edition 1 features exciting, premium quality interior details that have been specially designed: the AMG sports seats, door centre panels and armrests come in black designo leather with contrasting porcelain seams on the sports seats. To match this, the trim parts have a porcelain piano-lacquer look and the two-tone AMG performance steering wheel sets black nappa leather off with a lower section in porcelain designo leather. An “Edition 1″ badge on the trim indicates this version’s singularity. AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in matt black make the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupé Edition 1 look equally special on the outside. First Pictures - McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Race Car

The McLaren MP4-12C GT3 race car is based on a standard MP4-12C. Developing the race car has required a team of engineers, technicians and test drivers from McLaren Group and CRS Racing to focus on several fundamental components.

The 12C GT3 is based on the McLaren carbon MonoCell chassis, which weighs just 75kg and is produced in a revolutionary one-piece mould. Race specification composite body panels and a fixed rear wing have been added to the GT3 car.

The same 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 as in the production car on which it is based will be used in the 12C GT3, tuned to race specification. A bespoke paddle-shift system operating an all-new Ricardo-designed gearbox developed specifically for racing will be fitted. This system eschews the 7-speed SSG dual-clutch Graziano transmission supplied in the standard 12C.

New electrical architecture is being supplied by McLaren Electronic Systems Limited, including electronic dash and data technologies. Bosch Motorsport will supply a new ABS system for the 12C GT3. A new aerodynamics package has been developed by McLaren Racing in compliance with GT3 regulations, incorporating a new front splitter, door blade, rear wing, diffuser and louvres in the front fenders.

The new GT3 car will feature motorsport-specific braking and suspension components. These include bespoke callipers by Akebono, Official Supplier to Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. Due to regulations imposed by racing authorities, the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 will not feature the road-going 12C’s ProActive Chassis Control System; negating the requirement for an anti-roll bar. Instead, the 12C GT3 will use a configuration comprising race-specific roll bars and dampers.

Supercar Review - 2011 Koenigsegg Agera R

The Agera R is to the Agera what the CCXR is to the CCX. If that statement means nothing to you, then think of the Agera R as a more environmentally friendly and more powerful version of the base Agera. Using the beneficial qualities of E85 biofuel, including a higher octane rating and cooling abilities, the engine can run with higher compression, boost pressure, and more spark advance compared to the normal engine.
The result is a Veryon Super Sport-comparable 1,100 hp on E85 biofuel and peak torque of 885 lb-ft. of torque from its in-house 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. But wait, doesn’t the CCX and the Agera use a 4.7-liter V-8? Well, Koenigsegg has also taken this time to announce the new 5.0-liter V-8 that the company will be utilizing in the base Agera and Agera R.

Koenigsegg says that the Agera R utilizes a particularly robust engine capable of withstanding extreme pressures. Utilizing a purely theoretical tool called Brake Mean Effective Pressure (BMEP), Koenigsegg says the Agera has a BMEP rating of 406 psi on 95 octane and 435 psi on E85 biofuel. The best production engines from other leading manufacturers have a maximum BMEP of around 319 psi. The Agera’s turbochargers have a maximum pressure of 22 psi.

A newly developed seven-speed gearbox for the Agera features dual clutches for very smooth, yet extremely fast shifts. The Agera also makes use of what Koenigsegg calls one of the lightest and fastest E-Differentials on the market. The E-Diff takes into account the throttle angle, g-forces on the car, steering wheel angle, yaw angle, car speed, engine rpm, selected gear, and weather conditions. It also works in harmony with the new traction control system that Koenigsegg says is the fastest reacting in the industry.

The air conditioning was off, but the tropical sun was not, so the Ferraris and McLaren F1s sat and cooked!

Imagine seeing hundreds of high-end Ferraris, Lamborghinis and McLarens�many with hardly any miles on the odometer�rotting away in tropical heat and humidity.

While much has been written of the Sultan of Brunei’s car collection and there are no lack of spy photos of the collection on the Internet the estimated 2,500 cars are actually not the Sultan’s. They were the property of Prince Jefri, the Sultan’s third brother. As the Minister of Finance for Brunei (until 1997) Prince Jefri controlled the revenue from oil and gas through the BIA or Brunei Investment Authority and a network of companies under the name Amadeo.

The 1997 Asian Financial Crisis depressed oil prices and triggered a financial crisis in Brunei. The Sultan had Arthur Andersen audit the BIA books, which showed that between 1983 and mid-1998 some $40 billion in “special transfers” were made by the BIA, and that Prince Jefri had personally squandered $14.8 billion. In July 1998, Prince Jefri’s Amadeo investment group collapsed under $10 billion in debt. In 2000, Prince Jefri settled with the government of Brunei and began to return assets including more than 500 properties in Brunei and abroad, more than 2,000 cars, 100 paintings, five yachts, and nine world-class aircraft. According to court documents, the Prince spent $78 million at Pininfarina SpA for coachbuilt RHD Ferraris, $475 million at Rolls-Royce and $900 million at British jeweler Asprey.

Will fly to buy

In early 2002, I was offered a package of 13 very special Ferraris and McLaren F1s from the collection by a Brunei importer. After the usual negotiations, I agreed to buy two McLarens, a Ferrari F40 LM and a 288 GTO Evoluzione for clients, with an option to buy another 16 McLarens and Ferraris.
In May 2002, I flew to Brunei and stayed at the Empire Hotel. Commissioned by Prince Jefri and built at a cost of $1.1 billion, the Empire Hotel is beyond opulent. The Empire was built to hold over 1,000 guests, but I never saw more than a dozen people anywhere in the hotel at any time. I also visited the Jerudong Park, the largest and most expensive amusement park in Southeast Asia, which was also commissioned by Prince Jefri for a modest $1 billion. Like the Empire hotel, it was empty. A strict Muslim country, Brunei has no alcohol, virtually no nightlife and hence no tourists.

A maximum-security prison for Cars

I was picked up by an ex-New Zealand Special Forces (SAS) officer working as a bodyguard for the Brunei Royal Family. The car collection was a few kilometers down the coast and housed in a large compound surrounded by a high wall topped with razor wire and with a “bomb-proof” front gate. Once inside, we had to turn in our cameras and passports and stay with our guide, as armed Gurkhas with very serious German Shepherds patrolled the compound.
We first went through eight two-story buildings�each about 250 feet long by 60 feet wide�with each level holding about 120 cars. Each level had a semblance of a theme, with the first building filled with Porsches from 959s up to cars from the late 1990s. Another floor held mainly black-on-black 1996-97 Mercedes-Benz 500 sedans. Another building held coachbuilt Rolls-Royces, Bentleys and Aston Martins. Another building held mainly 1990s model Ferraris, including a few dozen 456s and 550s. Several 550s were fitted with experimental XTRAC automatic gearboxes. About a half a dozen were coated in radar-absorbent, matte-black coatings and fitted with infrared cameras for night driving, which is high-tech stuff for the late 1990s.

Another lower floor held rows of RHD Testarossas, 512 TRs and F512 Ms. Another building contained mainly coachbuilt Ferraris with four 456 four-doors, four 456 Venice Cabriolets, more 456 Venice station wagons, five FXs, a pair of Mythos and an incredibly ugly one-off called an F90. The token Enzo-era Ferrari was a RHD 275 GTS, s/n 7795.
Between the eight large buildings was a glass-walled showroom with three McLaren F1s, a 288 GTO Evo, an F50 and an F40 LM. The F40 LM was black with a black leather interior, red piping, air conditioning, and power windows.
As in the other buildings, the air conditioning was off, so the showroom had become a very efficient greenhouse, and the cars were cooking away.
Underneath this building was a windowless theatre filled with rows of RHD F40s, 288 GTOs and other exotics.

A reef’s worth of derelict Mercedes

At the back of the compound were two long, two-story buildings about fifty feet apart. A corrugated tin roof between them offered some protection from the blistering sun�but not from the rain. Under the shade were another 300 or so 1995-97 500 SELs and SLs, all black/black, many with the windows down, all rotting into oblivion. Many were AMG specials with wood or carbon fiber trimmed interiors, big motors, etc. We soon called this group as “the reef” as turning them into an artificial ocean reef was probably their best use. As an example, a 1997ish Rolls-Royce convertible was near the Mercedes-Benz fleet, but it was under a real roof and better protected. The roof notwithstanding, the Rolls had gotten so hot with the windows up that the steering wheel’s foam padding had melted into a puddle on the driver’s seat and the leather wrap hung from the barren steel rim. The entire interior had “gone off” with mold in the heat and humidity and the interior was a fuzzy gray!
A single-story building held 60 or so truly unique cars, most in a very bright yellow�including a row of four-wheel-drive Bentley Station wagons and a dozen late-model Lamborghinis. A few non-yellow cars, such as a black 456 Venice wagon with mirrored side windows were also in this building. A side room was filled with high-end motorcycles, while another room was filled with hundreds of empty Rolex, Cartier and Patek Philippe watch presentation boxes.
Behind one of the buildings was a row of “lesser” cars, including the collection’s token Corvette—all destroyed by the sun and rain. The mechanics had left in 1998, and nothing was in drivable condition. What had once been the planet�s largest collection of coachbuilt and high-end exotics was now a vast automotive tomb, patrolled only by a few Gurkhas with dogs.

Poster children for a study in deferred maintenance

When I totaled things up, there were less than 100 Ferraris, and only a few hundred cars in total were commercially viable. All had minimal mileage—but all were also poster children for deferred maintenance.
The lesser cars were beyond saving. None had been started in five years. Our offer was cheerfully accepted by the importer who offered the cars, but none of them came with any service records. Even worse, none had titles and getting a bill of sale or export documents was almost impossible, as the mid-level bureaucrats were paralyzed by indecision or the fear of making a political mistake and issuing export paperwork. While my trip to Brunei was an amazing cultural and automotive experience, we were never able to get a car out of the collection. Eight more years in a steamy tropical rain forest has certainly not helped any of these cars.

1988 Ferrari Testarossa F90 Speciale

The local officials have no to plans to save or to sell the collection, and the cost to turn it into a tourist attraction would be staggering. Over the last eight years less than a dozen significant cars have left, most as gifts to well-connected expats. Another few hundred pedestrian Mercedes-Benzes have been given to Brunei locals, but the bulk of the collection is still there and will die there, rotting into oblivion.

Even less so when you hear he's spending the equivalent of a grand a week in depreciation alone. Depressingly that's unlikely to give footballer owners sleepless nights though.

9 - Bentley Arnage

Proportion of original cost: 30%
One theme you'll very quickly pick up reading this list is that big, flash limos cost their owners a fortune in depreciation, the Arnage one of two Bentleys in this hall of shame and shedding nearly a third of its value in the first year alone.

Proportion of original cost: 28%If fancy a Ferrari and want to stand a chance of getting a decent return on your investment you're better off with a 458, its V12 big brother losing over a quarter of its purchase price in 12 months. A used bargain then? Not quite - it'll still cost you £120K or so!

If only AMGs performed as well in resale values as they do on road and track... Losing over £60K in a year is a huge amount of money burned but all the more shocking when you realise that's 40% of the hot SL's value lost in just a year. Ouch.

Proportion of original cost: 34%
It ain't pretty and it'll cost you a fortune in depreciation. Apart from that the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is brilliant! The arrival of its sexy, quirky FF replacement on the scene won't help one bit either.

Proportion of original cost: 26%
It'll shed nearly £80K in the first year but, in this company, the fact the Rolls cabriolet retains three-quarters of its value is, relatively speaking, a pretty strong performance.

Proportion of original cost: 27%
Like the Phantom Drophead, the saloon version's headline depreciation cost looks savage but in relation to the purchase price isn't actually too bad. If you can call losing over £1,500 a week not too bad.

3 - Bentley Brooklands

Proportion of original cost: 36%

It takes a very special person to want to buy a Bentley Brooklands. One who is clearly untroubled by the fact it'll lose over a third of its quarter-million purchase price after just a year. Individualism doesn't come cheap, it seems.

Proportion of original cost: 44%
Decisive proof that money doesn't buy taste, as if the fact you'll include Simon Cowell and P Diddy as fellow owners isn't bad enough already that blingy new Maybach is going to cost the price of an Aston DB9 in deprecation in a year.

The TOP 10 Supercars from Geneva Motor Show - 2. Pagani Huayra

Pagani has finally revealed its much rumoured and much anticipated successor to the Zonda, the Pagani Huayra. Some people are already calling it ugly, but designing a successor to the mighty Zonda is always going to be a tall order. At least it has a good name, as Horacio Pagani’s newest design is named after the Andean god of wind, Aymara Huayra Tata. It’s obvious that the new beast has softer styling and isn’t as aggressive as the Zonda, but the two models still have a lot in common and share a similar silhouette. The newcomer even gets a pair of SLS-like gullwing doors, which introduce the driver to a bespoke interior.
The Pagani Huayra will be powered by a Mercedes-Benz AMG-built 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine capable of churning out over 700 hp and a torque of over 740 pound-feetwhich is enough for a toe-curling 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 230mph. The Huayra’s M158 engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Of course, power is nothing without control, and if our eyes don’t deceive us the car actually can deploy either of its two front or rear spoilers higher or lower to help it carve through the corners.

The Huayra is built around an new carbon-titanium monocoque frame, while the body parts are constructed from carbon-fiber. Lightweight materials are also used throughout the car, so the Huayra tips the scales at 1,350 kg (2,976 pounds). As for dimensions – the Pagani Huayra is 4605 mm long, 1169 mm tall and has a width of 2036 mm, with a wheelbase of 2795 mm.

To celebrate 15 years of making dream cars, Koenigsegg unleash their latest jewel, the Koenigsegg Agera. A new supercar aimed to take the Koenigsegg experience to the next level, both on the road and the track. The Agera is on display at the 80th Salon International de l’Auto in Geneva.

Koenigsegg Agera is powered by Twin Turbo engine with 910 hp in term of running on regular petrol. Therefore, Agera maximum torque is 1100 nm and can be reached at 5100 rpm. To balance this, the Agera features the latest in braking technology with 392×36 and 380×34 ventilated and drilled ceramic discs. As well, new traction control is fitted with auto adapt functionality for different road conditions and driving styles as well as several manual settings.
Beside the new engine performance, Koenigsegg also features the new Koenigsegg Agera stitching and seams for Agera interior and has developed a new type of interior illumination, which shines through the billet aluminum buttons and surfaces by way of invisible nanotubes.
The Koenigsegg Agera will be produced in parallel to the Award winning CCX and CCXR models. The pre-production show car will be put through its phases for the coming six month prior to the production car launch of the Agera.

2012 Jaguar XKR-S

The performance of the Jaguar XKR-S is reflected in both its interior and exterior styling, which feature exclusive new paint colours that reflect Jaguar’s racing heritage. As with competition Jaguars of the past, the exterior of the XKR-S adheres to the principle of form following function. In addition to the styling changes and in order for it to achieve 300kph, the XKR-S was the subject of extensive Computational Fluid Dynamics development work. The resulting changes reduced front and rear lift by more than a quarter and optimised lateral aerodynamic stability.

In order to balance front and rear lift, the Jaguar XKR-S features a separate rear wing, a first for the XK range. This addition, with its carbon-fibre centre section, works in concert with the similarly constructed Venturi structure underneath the rear bumper. The assertive new appearance of the Jaguar XKR-S is subtly highlighted by some carefully chosen details exclusive to this model. Exterior trim is finished in gloss black, complemented by 20-inch Vulcan lightweight forged alloys in a dark technical finish. The XKR-S is available in a range of five paint colours, two of which evoke Jaguar’s competition heritage: Italian Racing Red and French Racing Blue.

For the first time with a series production car, Jaguar gains entry to the exclusive ‘300kph club’ thanks to the effortless performance of the supercharged 5.0-litre AJ-V8 engine. A revised fuelling map means the direct-injection powerplant now produces 550PS and 680Nm of torque. Extensive recalibration has ensured that power delivery and performance are seamless, contributing to a 0-60mph time of 4.2 seconds. The Performance active exhaust encourages and rewards the enthusiastic driver with dramatic, motorsport-inspired aural feedback.
Wheel sizes have been increased with the unique lightweight forged Vulcan 20-inch alloys now having a width of nine inches at the front and 10.5-inches at the rear for greater precision and grip. The new wheels wear Pirelli P Zero tyres measuring 255/35 R20 at the front, 295/35 R20 at the rear. This combination has reduced overall unsprung mass by 4.8kg with a commensurate improvement in handling and dynamism.

The XKR-S is equipped as standard with Jaguar’s High Performance Braking System. Lighter and more powerful, this features cast iron and part aluminium monobloc calipers for a combination of power, stability and feel. The brake discs – measuring 380mm at the front and 376mm at the rear – are internally ventilated to provide repeated, fade-free stopping power. In combination with pad surface increases of 44 per cent front and 31 per cent rear the system provides total security and confidence on both road and track. Stopping distance from 124mph has been improved by 2.7 per cent over the already impressive XKR.

The interior of the Jaguar XKR-S has been subtly refreshed with a host of new trim materials including ebony soft-feel paint for the switches and gloss black finish to the centre console. The model will also be exclusively available with a Dark Linear Aluminium finish as an option to the wood veneers.

A new leather-wrapped, multi-function steering wheel has also been added, providing a beautiful, tactile interface between car and driver as do the bright, Jaguar-embossed, stainless steel pedals.
Exclusive to the Jaguar XKR-S are the new Performance front seats with an integrated head restraints and increased lateral and squab support to hold driver and passenger securely and comfortably in place during the high speed cornering of which this car is capable. The 16-way adjustment of squab, cushion, lumbar and bolster elements is supplemented by memory and heating functions.

Supercar Market Appraisal - by Glass's Guide

With the recent tough economic climate its true to say the volume players in this segment (Aston Martin, Bentley and Porsche) have had a tough time of late. It's been accentuated by the fact that these manufacturers had strong volume growth in the past decade with models such as V8 Vantage, GT Continental Coupe and Cayman, Cayenne etc. However with the recession has come a more difficult landscape for new cars and late used and the past volume increases has perhaps meant too much choice for the customer which has now given them better bargaining power. Bonuses on new cars have been higher to combat this and finance deals attractive which has helped the cause, however with another period of uncertainty ahead, the pressure will remain. It's not very often that new car discount and bonnet bonuses on Porsche are commonplace and when they are you know the market is a tough one...

Talking of Porsche they have a year of new products which will see most of their range refreshed by the end of 2011. This will put some pressure on old model late used values but most already represent value and are unlikely to be impacted too much. At present Panamera (disappearing to the Far East at £10-15k more than UK trade values) and Cayenne (especially the thin on the ground diesel and hybrid) are in demand, with Cayman for once slightly off the boil. Boxster has spring around the corner and values are expected to be mildly on the rise over the next month. 997 remain good news at 18 months and over (as do most models), however caution should be used at the late plate due to bonuses and new product refresh.

Ferrari values remain strong and as many late vat qualifying used examples and a good percentage of new cars are exporting this has meant cars are thin on the ground in the UK. As usual it's the V8s that remain most in demand with 360 looking value. This trend for exporting has been evident in the prestige market for some time and the exotic market has seen this action increase in the past 12 months. The exchange rate works well for Australasia, (the list price is much higher in these regions) so the cars represent value for the end customer and the UK seller sees a greater margin via the VAT element. New product wise California has now settled down, the car is still in demand but the overs prices that were being fetched have subsided, leaving the 458 to take up the reigns as the latest "must have" toy for the wealthy.

Lamborghini remain a tricky manufacturer to value and research, with 2 similar cars being worth tens of thousands of pounds less or more than a near identical one and with larger differences between franchised and specialist asking prices than any other brand I know. However volume is minute and it's a brand with a passionate following, even if according to one of my leasing contacts, many end up being repossessed...If you can help it, it's best to avoid one of these examples, whatever the price!

Aston Martin have resorted to large bonuses on new product to shift old stock and this has impacted on late used values, DBS suffering most as it's no longer the new kid on the block. At almost double the cost new price of the excellent V8 Vantage, I'd suggest it's a tough sell now it's a few years old. Rapide is also having some difficulty, perhaps suffering from something of an identity crisis. Its not as sleek as other Aston offerings and is not as spacious as other offerings in this sector (Panamera for example). However Vantage V8 and DB9 price range are performing better and as for Cygnet, in the words of several of their dealers, it's perhaps best we don't go there...

Bentley also suffered some residual value pain in the past few years, volume again being the main contributing factor. However lately values have plateaued on the Continental range with the right GT coupe, Flying Spur and GTC looking value for money and attracting strong bids in the right spec.

Going forward I imagine the next 12 months will see similar fortunes for the above brands, it's clear that for the volume players the market will remain hard work for the foreseeable. For the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini the lower volume levels involved are likely to stand them in good stead, in this scenario less really is more.

2011 Gumpert Tornante

When selecting the partner for the new model’s body design, Gumpert recognised that elegance is part of the genetic code of Touring Superleggera’s creations. Even more remarkably, the paradigm of elegance was applied by Touring to the race cars too. This distinctive approach was at the basis of many masterpieces, like the 1940 Mille Miglia winner BMW 328 Berlinetta, the Ferrari 166 and 340 and the inspiring Alfa Romeo 8C2900. They all were redoubtable race machines with singular grace.

The Gumpert Tornante has the genes of the Gumpert apollo and inherits its impressive V8 biturbo engine. Weighing only 196 kg, the engine plays a major role in ensuring the ideal weight and the fascinating driving dynamics of the Tornante. An angle of 90° between the two cylinder banks is a sign of a classic 8-cylinder engine.
Starting from the pure block from Audi, the engine is a complete in-house development. Thus, the manufacturing process contains among others all the moving parts, air and fuel management, turbo chargers, charge air-duct and dry sump lubrication. In the basic version this engine delivers 700 HP. In comparison to the apollo, the configuration will be optimized for the Fast Touring mission. This means more comfort and more suitability for daily use.

Alongside the V8 power unit, an alternative powered Gumpert Tornante is also planned for 2012.

It is somewhat surprising that information has unveiled the UK magazine AutoExpress on the cover of its latest issue.
In fact, according to some sources, it seems that Bugatti is developing a new version of the Veyron. Here is the French translation of the article in AutoExpress:

"One of the most stunning supercars in the world is about to go even faster! Auto Express has learned that the green light was given to the development of a new Bugatti Veyron faster and lighter. Although the VW group has lost money on each copy of the 300 cut, 150 Grand Sport 30 Super Sport and constructed over the past five years, the status of the Veyron as exceptional car is worth all the gold in the world. And our sources have revealed that the German company decided to build a new version. To confirm this, the chairman of VW, Martin Winterkorn, recently said "After 300 Bugatti, I think we would be unwise if we allow the brand is once again put to sleep"

The Virage, Aston Martin's Brand New Supercar

Aston Martin have just released the first details on the Virage and the Virage Volante. This may look like a facelifted DB9, but it’s actually a brand new model.

The Virage will apparently fill the gap between the DB9 and the DBS. It will be more performance orientated than the DB9, and more luxurious than the DBS.

It’s powered by a 6.0 V12 engine, producing 490 bhp. No word yet on 0-60 times or other performance stats.

Every Virage will come with Carbon Ceramic Matrix brakes as standard, which is an option that usually costs a few thousand pounds on rivals. These brakes will offer better stopping power and will be more fade resistant than conventional brakes.

Other options that will come as standard include heated seats, Bi-Xenon lights, sat-nav and a 700W Dolby Pro Logic sound system.

Aston Martin are keen to focus on just how much hand-craftsmanship goes into their cars. For the Virage, 200 man hours are spent on hand crafting it, 70 of those on the interior alone.

Verdict

We will be very interested to see what the reviews for this car are like. The DB9 was always criticised slightly for being too soft, hopefully the Virage will solve those issues.

The biggest downside with this car is that it looks so similar to the DB9. That’s no insult by any means, the DB9 is a stunning car, but we’d bet the average man on the street would struggle to tell the difference.

We can’t help think the DB9 won’t be around for much longer. Prices for the Virage haven’t yet been announced, but it’s obvious it will sit between the DB9 which costs £125,000 and the DBS which costs £175,000. It’s hard to see many customers choosing a DB9 over this fresh-faced, more modern, Virage.

KIS Cars Verdict

Why? We struggle to see the Market Gap here too? Surely the only reason could be that AML are going to drop the DB9 shortly after...
