Samsung Galaxy S2 Vs BlackBerry Bold 9900 Review

2011-09-01T09:48:00.000-07:00

The BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is the most advanced BlackBerry handset to be announced. But how does the handset stack up against the current Android king? The Samsung Galaxy S 2 has pushed the boundaries of mobile technology and you have to wonder if BlackBerry will be able to compete? We take a closer look at both handsets to see how they compare, my moneys on the Galaxy S 2 though!
Size & Design
The Galaxy Samsung S2 is a slim and lightweight phone when compared to its predecessor. It comes in a relatively small package measuring just 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm and weighing 116 grams. On the other hand though, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is much thicker sitting at 115 x 66 x 10.5 mm which also means it weighs more - 132 grams.
The BlackBerry Bold Touch has kept with traditional BlackBerry handset styling which is rather unattractive when compared with the design of the Galaxy S2 and other modern smartphones. The general design and corners of the 9900 makes the phone look and feel a bit cheap. The Galaxy S2 has a well designed and compact shape giving it a much more attractive design.
Samsung S2 Vs BlackBerry Bold 9900
The Samsung Galaxy S2 features a capacitive super AMOLED touch screen which is bright and vivid. The screen can display up to a 480 x 800 pixels. The screen is also quite large; measuring 4.3 inches across and also comes with an accelerometer, multi-touch input, TouchWiz UI 4.0 and gyro sensors. The whole screen is covered with Gorilla glass coating which is a toughened material designed to enhance the protection of the screen and prevent damage from daily knocks and bumps.
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 on the other hand is much more fragile with its small screen size in comparison measuring just 2.3 inches. It makes use of a capacitive touch screen technology called 'graphical liquid' which provides a 640 x 480 pixel resolution. Other features include the optical track pad, full hardware keyboard and an accelerometer.
The sheer size and quality of the Galaxy S 2 display puts any mobile phone to shame, but when compared against the display on the BlackBerry Bold Touch you have to wonder what BlackBerry were thinking!
Storage Features
The Samsung Galaxy S2 includes 16GB of memory which is more than enough for all of your pictures, music and movies. However if 16GB isn't enough you can expand on this with up to an additional 32GB via a MicroSD memory card.
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 only provides 8 GB of internal memory. However it can also support a MicroSD card of up to 32 GB. Although the Galaxy S 2 has more storage, I personally do not see why you would need more than 8GB on your phone.
Technically the Samsung Galaxy S 2 is the better phone, but if your like me and struggle to write messages using a touchscreen keyboard then handsets like the BlackBerry with a full QWERTY keyboard are ideal.

BlackBerry Phone Review and Comparison Helps Consumers Get Better BlackBerry Phone Deals

2011-08-29T07:30:00.000-07:00

When buying a BlackBerry phone it's a bit different from just buying a normal mobile that doesn't have the same features or at least stigma attached to its name as a BlackBerry has. The BlackBerry itself has been described as "the most gorgeous looking smartphone on the planet". And only holding one in your hand, you can see why it bares this description. But when you really get under the bonnet and learn about the features it has that's when you can really appreciate this phone from RIM (Research In Motion).
A Small BlackBerry Phone Experience
RIM have produced an absolute spectacle of different BlackBerry's. All released in familes or series of models. We have seen the BlackBerry evolve over time from the very early Pager & Monochrome Java-based models the first color and SureType models like the 7100/7200, 7500/7700 series. And from 2008-2009 GPS/Wi-Fi series smartphones like the BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry Curve series and BlackBerry Tour, BlackBerry Storm and recently the BlackBerry Torch series.
These latest releases feature the latest mobile technologies such as Wi-Fi / HSDPA / 3G mobile internet with internet tethering abilities. Also the BlackBerry Torch has a 624MHz processor and 512MB RAM which makes it more powerful than some modern laptops or PC's. Not to mention touch-screen display with HD video playback and recording. Plus you will find many useful apps for internet use like surfing, sending email and socialising or simply playing games and run fast and fluently on the phone because of all this power.
Because of this the BlackBerry is greatly desired by all types of people. And there are many online websites and businesses that you sell BlackBerry phones depending on where you live. You can find new and used ones online to buy today. Even some of the used BlackBerry phones you can find for sale online are still in a mint condition only sold at a lower price than if purchased brand new. But buying a new one for the first time can seem a bit daunting knowing which one is right for you. That's why a comparison site is needed so people can compare and review the main differences and see reviews on each handset prior to purchasing to make the best possible decision.
Knowing the differences in BlackBerry phone could mean you don't end making a purchase you'll later learn to regret. As said, BlackBerry phones were designed by RIM for certain types of people so you want to make sure you know what you specifically desire first in a smartphone like the BlackBerry to make a decision as smart as this phone itself.

New BlackBerry Smartphones Expected in 2011

2011-08-28T07:56:00.000-07:00

It's often said that past precedent is the best indicator of future performance and over the past couple of years the varying BlackBerry device form factors and product families have become well established. The Bold, Curve and Pearl families are now staples that span both GSM and CDMA carriers around the globe, and we've seen Torch, Storm and Style devices be used as carrier exclusives in the USA and also get rolled out internationally. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out RIM's next product cycle will mainly involve upgrades within each of these existing product lines.
The main contention coming into the next generation of BlackBerry Smartphones we will see roll out in 2011 is what operating system the devices will utilize. With the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet using the QNX-based BlackBerry Tablet OS and RIM's Co-CEO saying that you will (at some point) see QNX on BlackBerry Smartphones, the hope/possibility existed that QNX could be on the next BlackBerry you run out and buy. That question has now been answered, and the answer is the traditional BlackBerry OS will endure at least a little longer in the form of BlackBerry 6.1, which brings with it a number of new features. We'll talk more on BlackBerry 6.1 more later.
On the hardware side, 2011 will finally see RIM roll out much needed upgrades, bringing forth faster processors, HD video recording, 3D graphics support to new GSM devices, higher resolution displays and memory upgrades. We'll also see the company embrace NFC this year (helping your BB work with accessories or basically allowing you to use your phone as a credit card). Good stuff all around.
So while the operating system improvements will mainly be incremental in 2011, these will by far be the best BlackBerry Smartphones ever built.

BlackBerry Insurance Tips: Enjoy Blackberry's News Applications With Less Anxiety

2011-08-27T06:10:00.000-07:00

Are you going for a business trip away from home? Are you going to work on a far-flung area, away from civilization? Or your companion at work loves to listen on his favorite FM radio station all the time?

If yes is the answer to any of these questions and you wanted to know what's going on around you, then you are in dire need to know the latest news. And one of the best devices for this is the BlackBerry smartphone. First off, you need to get your Blackberry insured with the right insurance protection if you ever want to fully enjoy using it without anxieties. Because if you want to get breaking news fast, then this smartphone is great for the job.
Traditional means of getting the latest headlines of the day include buying a bundle or two of freshly printed rolls of newspaper from your local newsstand, or by listening to the morning news on the radio as you drive your way to work, or watch the morning television news as you enjoy your favorite breakfast and sipping a warm cup of coffee, or tea. However, on situations where you don't have these conveniences readily available, getting the hot stuff is very difficult, if not impossible.
However, for those who make it a past time to be one of the first people on earth to get the breaking news, there is no need to worry. As long as you have your Blackberry with you, getting left behind is something that will make you worry less. With your Blackberry, a wide selection of news applications from reputable and leading international news networks is readily available at simple tap of the screen. Be the first to know, with CNN's Blackberry news application, get the freshest news as they unfold from CBS news application, witness and be informed with the hour's breaking news with NY Times, get updated with world events as they happen from AFP Mobile News.
Plus, for non-English and multi-lingual Blackberry users, Spanish and French news applications are also available as well. Choose a wide range of topics that stirs up your interest, such as the local and international headlines, entertainment, the weather, sports, editorial and many other exciting columns as well. These applications are also packed with high-quality videos and photos too. Zoom-in and zoom-out for better viewing pleasure. Save and retrieve news articles and you can share them to anyone, anywhere in the world via email or any social networking websites.
Blackberry is so valuable, that it is a smart move to obtain BlackBerry insurance to protect it from misfortunes such as theft, unwarranted damages from accidents and spills, loss and even from unauthorized phone call use as well. While staying abroad, you will receive fresh news and you will get exactly the same insurance for BlackBerry coverage through an International cover. Premium for BlackBerry insurance is very affordable and honestly, you dont have business owning a BB if you can't even afford one.
I have been using my BlackBerry and it has never failed me in getting the freshes news, so I'm not going to leave home without it nor without it being properly insured.

Verizon 2011 Blackberry Plans

2011-08-27T05:02:00.000-07:00

Verizon Wireless has four types of plans available to customers:

Individual
Family
Prepaid
Mobile Broadband

If you are not going to be in the US for a long period of time then prepaid or month to month is not a bad option for you. The minimum price option is 450 anytime minutes for $44.99 per month and any excess minutes over 450 you pay 45 cents per minute. The unlimited talk and text option will cost you $94.99 per month. If you have a smartphone such as an Android or BlackBerry the unlimited data package (only option) is $30 per month. You are looking at a total of $124.99 for unlimited talk, text and data.
Mobile Broadband is designed for tablets, mobile hotspots, netbooks and notebooks. You will need to decide if your device is compatible with Verizon's 4G network as the rates differ. The 4G rate for cell phones is $50 for 5 Gigs of data or $80 for 10Gigs. For other devices on the 3G network the rate is the same for 5 and 10 Gigs of data, however, there is the option of getting 1Gig for $20 or 3Gigs for $35.
Family plans have the advantage of allowing you to share your minutes between five cell phones. If you are a couple looking for unlimited talk, text and data it will cost you $180, which is a better deal than getting it individually. For each additional line you add on (unlimited talk and text) will cost you $50, plus $30 per additional phone for unlimited data. The alternative is to select either 700, 1400 or 2000 minute bundle, which is shared between the lines you select. For this option it will cost you $130 for two lines and an additional $10 for each additional line you add. You then have the option to add on data bundles for each phone.
The most common plan is the individual plans. The unlimited talk and text is $90 plus $30 for data, which is not an option if you are using a smartphone/BlackBerry, hence, your total is $120. You are able to select bundles of minutes at $60 for 450 minutes and $80 for 900 minutes. Thereafter you pay between 40 and 45 cents for additional minutes. If you are going to go over your bundle in a particular month it is worth increasing your package before the end of the month and getting Verizon to make the change starting from the beginning of the month. When you take out your contract, there is the one time activation fee for $35 that you should be aware of.
A useful add on feature is the mobile hotspot option at $20 per month for 2 GB of data ($20 for GB thereafter). If you compare Verizon's plans to Sprint and T-Mobile, you will find that Verizon is about $10 more expensive than Sprint and $40 more expensive than T-Mobile. Unlimited talk, text and data on Verizon is $120, on Sprint it is $110 and on T-Mobile it is $80. Therefore it is not the most competitively priced network, although in certain areas of the US, Verizon has better service coverage and Verizon's 4G LTE connectivity service is the fastest, with an average download speed of 9.46 mbps (according to PC Mag's testing). On the flip side their 3G network for cell phones is possibly the slowest out of the major providers.
