<br />
I fear I have got so much to do right now that the posts will keep on coming sparringly the next couple of month. But in return, I have a favourite project to share today!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5llPSDGmDTo/VBPpp0ZzWcI/AAAAAAAABAU/BkgND3AFTXA/s1600/Kitchen%2BJar%2Bnah.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5llPSDGmDTo/VBPpp0ZzWcI/AAAAAAAABAU/BkgND3AFTXA/s1600/Kitchen%2BJar%2Bnah.jpg" height="390" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
First thing are the awesome DIY chalkboard labels. They are super easy and cheap to make, and you can create every shape you want.<br />
<br />
You need:<br />
- simple paper<br />
-chalkboard paint<br />
-double sided tape<br />
- chalk pencil<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-embbTJCZc1g/VBPqG8SG8VI/AAAAAAAABAc/vLR4p8GbV8c/s1600/Chalboardlabel2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-embbTJCZc1g/VBPqG8SG8VI/AAAAAAAABAc/vLR4p8GbV8c/s1600/Chalboardlabel2.jpg" height="223" width="320" /></a>You just cover the paper in one or two layers of chalkboard paint. I had some leftover from years ago (surprisingly, it was still good to use!) but it isn´t all that expensive to buy. And chalkboards are awesome!<br />
<br />
Once the paper is dry, cover the backside with double sided tape. I checked what was better - taping before painting or after - and after is better, because the paper gets crinkles otherwise.<br />
<br />
Now, cut out the shape you want - circle, oval, rectangle.... If you have more patience than I do and create a stencil, it will turn out even better!<br />
<br />
Put the label wherever you need one. Using a chalk pencil makes writing and drawing easier and a little tidier. I think adding an outline makes the labels so much prettier!<br />
<br />
I tried if the paper could withstand wiping the chalk off again - no problem! The paint protects it wonderfully!<br />
<br />
So to the kitchen jars:<br />
<br />
I love to use things that would otherwise be ´waste`. So I adore these kitchen jars made of pickle jars. They close tightly, so they keep moths and other nasty stuff out of my food. And they look so cute.<br />
<br />
I just painted the caps with a couple of layers of acrylic paint. Pastels always remind me of sweets - they just look good enough to eat! So what´s better for the kitchen! The DIY chalkboard labels did the rest.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fA0aForWHDo/VBPqPgEQbfI/AAAAAAAABAk/wr8GTcP0tiY/s1600/Kitchenjar%2Bfern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fA0aForWHDo/VBPqPgEQbfI/AAAAAAAABAk/wr8GTcP0tiY/s1600/Kitchenjar%2Bfern.jpg" height="508" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
What can I say? I like!<br />
<br />
I hope you do, too, and you will come by now and then even if I don´t get around to a weekly post - something cool is coming the next time, too!<br />
<br />

That has the big advantage that slowly, every part of my home contains personal details. My kitchen got a real splash of color with my latest project - painted dishtowels.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s7pqEMJW0NI/U96ILXpnzEI/AAAAAAAAA_k/V-qPN94Knu4/s1600/dishtowels.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s7pqEMJW0NI/U96ILXpnzEI/AAAAAAAAA_k/V-qPN94Knu4/s1600/dishtowels.jpg" height="640" width="486" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i5O4bZTKEIQ/U96IUVvY2fI/AAAAAAAAA_s/H4xercfbkGM/s1600/best+dishtowel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i5O4bZTKEIQ/U96IUVvY2fI/AAAAAAAAA_s/H4xercfbkGM/s1600/best+dishtowel.jpg" height="400" width="283" /></a>You need:<br />
- towels (I got the cheap Ikea kind)<br />
- neon fabric paint that is washable up to 60 ° C/ 140° F<br />
- a small brush<br />
<br />
I did a typo towel and a plant silhouette so far, and they both worked out fine.<br />
<br />
Don´t worry too much - the towels cost less than a buck, you can´t waste that much money!<br />
<br />
I taped my towels to a big piece of cardboard to keep it straight and even - worked wonders! <br />
<br />
For the typo towel, I did a draft first, where I considered what I wanted to write and how to space it.<br />
If you need inspiration, check out the cool fonts on your computer and online.<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MLvBp_DVYAA/U96IbD9SHTI/AAAAAAAAA_0/6naPX0O1F3s/s1600/dishtowel+close.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MLvBp_DVYAA/U96IbD9SHTI/AAAAAAAAA_0/6naPX0O1F3s/s1600/dishtowel+close.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a><br />
Then, I just started painting free handed.<br />
My towel has a slight pattern that helped me keep my lines straight - like a grid. The curlicues I added spontaneously, but that could have gone wrong...<br />
<br />
<br />
For the plant silhouette, I looked for pictures of dill online and did a quick sketch.<br />
<br />
The silhouette is pretty much made up of dots and lines - no trouble. Go with your gut and add details as you like.<br />
<br />
After your paint has dried, fix it as needed. Mine needed to be ironed for five minutes. I have already washed it at 140° F - and the paint kept perfectly!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZZAskpqSW6w/U96IhopEYdI/AAAAAAAAA_8/FXIF554zPQU/s1600/Dill+Dishtowel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZZAskpqSW6w/U96IhopEYdI/AAAAAAAAA_8/FXIF554zPQU/s1600/Dill+Dishtowel.jpg" height="320" width="228" /></a></div>
<br />
I think these would make wonderful housewarming gifts. Cute dishtowels are often so expensive for something that sees a lot of wear and tear. Here is the cheap and super personal alternative!Yanahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02579485439412168980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8239426945713700740.post-19646653846353015322014-07-21T10:46:00.000-07:002014-07-21T10:46:55.123-07:00At long last: Kindle CoverSo I´ve been skipping posts for a while - so much going on this summer - but today, I have a quick turtorial on how to create a protective cover for your e-reader. Takes about 10 minutes and is a lot cheaper than the commercial options out there!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bXxCQA5BpvE/U81RjEFlRkI/AAAAAAAAA_U/i05YshTK86E/s1600/kindleh%C3%BClle+fertig.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bXxCQA5BpvE/U81RjEFlRkI/AAAAAAAAA_U/i05YshTK86E/s1600/kindleh%C3%BClle+fertig.jpg" height="388" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
1. Buy some cute fabric (I got mine during my holidays in southern france - so it is a kind of memorabilia, too) and some fleece. Cut both so it is twice as big as your kindle and add 2 in /5 cm in the width and 3 in / 7 cm in the height.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r42rit03aBs/U8QjlkFsHZI/AAAAAAAAA-c/BGUXdURmOtw/s1600/kindle1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r42rit03aBs/U8QjlkFsHZI/AAAAAAAAA-c/BGUXdURmOtw/s1600/kindle1.jpg" height="284" width="320" /></a></div>
2. Sew the two fabrics together left on left.<br />
<br />
3. Fold in the upper edge and stitch it down.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sncc7fg7gkE/U8Qj3J6moNI/AAAAAAAAA-k/3f7dBzh9UC8/s1600/kindle2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sncc7fg7gkE/U8Qj3J6moNI/AAAAAAAAA-k/3f7dBzh9UC8/s1600/kindle2.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4. Fold the fabric in half, so that the fleece is on top, and sew the bag closed on the other three sides.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SUv4JhVUM7k/U8QkC2NfPmI/AAAAAAAAA-s/0rGrbBWHxYc/s1600/kindle3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SUv4JhVUM7k/U8QkC2NfPmI/AAAAAAAAA-s/0rGrbBWHxYc/s1600/kindle3.jpg" height="222" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5. Turn the right side out and cut off the superfluous fabric near the seam.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tojetcoAK4s/U8QkKM4T-WI/AAAAAAAAA-0/qXpafkRrw2c/s1600/kindle4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tojetcoAK4s/U8QkKM4T-WI/AAAAAAAAA-0/qXpafkRrw2c/s1600/kindle4.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6. Now cut two stripes off the pretty fabric, 3 in/ 7cm long and 2 in/ 4 cm wide. Fold the long sides to the middle, slightly overlapping, so you get neat edges. Now sew the stripe closed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NQTpnMRuxpU/U8QkdI6uUuI/AAAAAAAAA-8/xkvBDsZekos/s1600/kindle+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NQTpnMRuxpU/U8QkdI6uUuI/AAAAAAAAA-8/xkvBDsZekos/s1600/kindle+5.jpg" height="320" width="237" /></a></div>
<br />
7. Now fix a stripe on each side of the open side of the cover, so you can knot it shut.<br />
<br />
8. Finally, go and read something romantic fitting the fabric of your cover ; )Yanahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02579485439412168980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8239426945713700740.post-88185796874164396812014-06-12T13:55:00.000-07:002014-06-12T13:55:46.800-07:00Summertime "Frosted" Glass Votives<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YW-vqAifJKg/U4Te08ODfnI/AAAAAAAAA98/2Q7Ab4USXmE/s1600/Transparent+Light+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YW-vqAifJKg/U4Te08ODfnI/AAAAAAAAA98/2Q7Ab4USXmE/s1600/Transparent+Light+3.jpg" height="328" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
These votives were a present for my grandma. She loves a straight and modern look in her home, but sometimes struggles with making it still seem warm and comfy. I thought these votives might be simplistic enough for her while adding the atmosphere of candle light. <br />
<br />
To create something similar, you need:<br />
- straight glass jars (these were old mustard jars)<br />
- thick transparent paper<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8V4gxiIK4O0/U4Te9Ww19qI/AAAAAAAAA-E/LOBQGH-bN50/s1600/Transparent+Light.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8V4gxiIK4O0/U4Te9Ww19qI/AAAAAAAAA-E/LOBQGH-bN50/s1600/Transparent+Light.jpg" height="189" width="320" /></a>- glue, printer, computer, scotch tape <br />
<br />
1. The writing, I created in Word. For the left jar, I wrote down words I connect with summer - like <br />
´strawberry icecream` or ´hammock dreams`, splitting them when they met the line break. Some I turned light, some middle, some dark grey. For the right jar, I wrote down only the word ´summertime` in light grey.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qyz2dziNWzA/U4TfDo1BbkI/AAAAAAAAA-M/kw1qw5MLqYA/s1600/Transparent+Light+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qyz2dziNWzA/U4TfDo1BbkI/AAAAAAAAA-M/kw1qw5MLqYA/s1600/Transparent+Light+2.jpg" height="320" width="225" /></a>2. Next, I printed the page, put my jar on top and figured out if the text needed to be smaller or larger.<br />
<br />
I did that a couple of times, until I finally got it right.<br />
<br />
3. Next came the most difficult part, printing on the transparent paper. My printer accepted it only if I <br />
printed in the fast option, but tended to rip the paper. So I fixed it on top of a normal piece of paper using scotch tape. I lost about two or three pages before I figured it out, but I payed 3 $ for a block, so that was ok.<br />
<br />
4. Once that was finally done, I cut the transparent paper to the right size, put it around the jar and glued it shut. It forms a tunnel now, so I can switch between motifs if I create more.Yanahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02579485439412168980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8239426945713700740.post-76086355314055493052014-05-27T10:56:00.001-07:002014-05-27T11:02:56.186-07:00Easy Art: Wire FishI have a very cool, easy-peasy art project for you today!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-twu56gQ-mOY/U4TTR3lJEtI/AAAAAAAAA9s/gl1KDYVu7lE/s1600/Wire+Fish+Richtig+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-twu56gQ-mOY/U4TTR3lJEtI/AAAAAAAAA9s/gl1KDYVu7lE/s1600/Wire+Fish+Richtig+2.jpg" height="506" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
Making wall decoration yourself can be difficult - personally, my drawings often turned out way less cool then I hoped for. This is why I was super happy when this fish ended up being pretty awesome.<br />
<br />
Best thing, it was very easy to make. So if you aren´t able to sketch a straight line THIS IS YOUR PROJECT!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RxQ0TdTIQk8/U4TRQEZ-eWI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/L4KwbVDY8Sk/s1600/WIre+FIsh+Picture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RxQ0TdTIQk8/U4TRQEZ-eWI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/L4KwbVDY8Sk/s1600/WIre+FIsh+Picture.jpg" height="208" width="320" /></a>1. First thing you need to do is look for a picture displaying a cool fish. Google image search really is an artist´s best friend! My fish is a gilt-head, which I chose because I wanted that roundish form.<br />
<br />
2. Print the picture and trace the most important lines using a marker. All lines have to connect somewhere, so cheat a little if needed!<br />
<br />
3.Now, take some wire. It should be thin enough to be easily bent by your fingers, but thick enough to give the fish some stability. I chose copper wire, cause of my never ending copper crush.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7DGSdLG0EDs/U4TRhqTI93I/AAAAAAAAA9Y/_54DWNBSQ1U/s1600/Wire+Fish+Eye.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7DGSdLG0EDs/U4TRhqTI93I/AAAAAAAAA9Y/_54DWNBSQ1U/s1600/Wire+Fish+Eye.jpg" height="220" width="320" /></a>4. Put the wire on top of your picture one stretch at a time and bent it so it follows the marked lines.<br />
For the fins, eye, mouth and so on you might have to cover the same line twice. In that instance, twist<br />
the wires slightly together.<br />
<br />
Small detail: The eye is a spirally form. <br />
<br />
It is important not to cut the wire, but use only one long piece. I kept the wire on the spool, because I wasn´t sure what lenght I needed.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2WEnlT8F9Fc/U4TRpvo4VjI/AAAAAAAAA9g/cJyU64RP1kg/s1600/Wire+Fish+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2WEnlT8F9Fc/U4TRpvo4VjI/AAAAAAAAA9g/cJyU64RP1kg/s1600/Wire+Fish+2.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a>If you compare the photo to the wire, you can see that it doesn´t overlap perfectly. The tail fin for example, I wrapped with wire where it´s closest to the body, to give it some stability. I don´t think <br />
anyone notices it when they see only the wire fish. So don´t worry if fish and picture aren´t identical!<br />
<br />
5. Finally, connect beginning and end of your wire by twisting them together<br />
<br />
6. Flatten the wire sculpture and hang it up.<br />
<br />
I think it took me thirty minutes max to create the fish. I can´t stop thinking of the possibilities - I would love to do some more animals, or try my hand at wire portraits. Unfortunatly, I don´t have a "before" picture, or any pictures taken in progress. But this is a special piece for me, because it stands for my personal return to crafting. <br />
<br />

<br />
When I first went to college, I had so much going on, I kind of forgot to do creative stuff.<br />
In school, I took a lot of art classes, but then I just pretty much stopped. It was only in my final year in university - which was really stressful - that I started to craft again. And I remembered how happy and relaxed it makes me. I think drawing or crafting is a lot like meditating - I get lost in the moment, but am still very much with myself.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i96JIsk2wfo/U250pEEBPTI/AAAAAAAAA7g/CsDa8uGKVMw/s1600/sessel+nah.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i96JIsk2wfo/U250pEEBPTI/AAAAAAAAA7g/CsDa8uGKVMw/s1600/sessel+nah.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a>This was when I decided I had to keep crafting. That is also one of the main reasons I write this blog. It gives me one more motivation to create something fun today! <br />
<br />
This chair was one of the first pieces I upcycled. It was all dark wood and a nasty old beige fabric before.<br />
<br />
If you want to create something similar, you need:<br />
<br />
- an old armchair (obviously)<br />
- thick fabric - if you want it really sturdy, buy the stuff especially made for upholstery<br />
- cord for the piping<br />
- white acrylic paint <br />
- stapler<br />
- glue gun<br />
<br />
1.Take off the old fabric, and use it as a pattern for your new fabric.<br />

It is possible to cut new padding from foam, but for the first time, I was very happy to keep the old one.<br />
<br />
<br />
2. Sand the wooden parts and put on one or two layers of white acrylic paint. I am always impressed with other bloggers professionalism when it comes to painting furniture, but in the end, I am slightly lazy and quite cheap. So I always go with simple acrylic paint, and it hasn´t really failed me yet. However, if a perfectly even shiny finish is what you want, go with laquer!<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LFK_Nlkpx3k/U25z9sFrl7I/AAAAAAAAA7Y/yQLZbd64kq0/s1600/sessel+kante.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LFK_Nlkpx3k/U25z9sFrl7I/AAAAAAAAA7Y/yQLZbd64kq0/s1600/sessel+kante.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
3. Staple the fabric to the chair.<br />
It is important to keep it well stretched, or you will end up with wrinkles! Best fix it carefully with one staple at every side before stapling it every 5 cm/ 2 in. Remember to fold the fabric to get a clean finish before stapling it.<br />
<br />
4. The staples don´t look all that good, and that is what the drawstring is for! Use the glue gun to fix the cord on top of the staples, creating a pretty piping.<br />
<br />
Baroque chairs are awesome! Everybody sitting in it immediatly looks very regal, kind of queen-momish - even the guys ; )!<br />

It is even less pretty if you live in a one room apartement, it is stuffed in a corner of your closet and spills out every time you open the door.<br />
<br />
While vacationing in southern France, I saw some very cute laundry bags, but they were very small and very expensive. That is what I am a DIYer for!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
You need:<br />
- Linnen<br />
- Simple white cotton<br />
- White cotton with a embroidered flower pattern.<br />
- White, pretty drawstring<br />
- Lace braid<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
1. Cut a big circle from the simple white cotton. How big depends on the proportions of your laundry bag, but rather make it bigger than you expect. I wish I had made mine a little bigger!<br />
<br />
2. Cut strips of different width from your three fabrics. The lenght must be the circumference of your circle plus some seam allowance. Before doing your cuts, try some arrangements.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dvUiHnmYdnk/U2KajtvL5SI/AAAAAAAAA6A/PQ0Siye3Nmc/s1600/laundrybag5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dvUiHnmYdnk/U2KajtvL5SI/AAAAAAAAA6A/PQ0Siye3Nmc/s1600/laundrybag5.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2.a.If you want a "Linge" sign like mine, you need to cut a rectangle from the linnen, trim it, slightly <br />
fold over the edges and sew them on.<br />
<br />
b. I wrote out "Linge" in my computer and switched it to a few different fonts until I found one I liked. Sketch the letters onto the linnen and stitch them using large stitches (Sorry, no idea how this stitch is called in english, but I think you can see what I did - and if you know, please tell me!)<br />
<br />
c. Sew the embroidered rectangle on top of a larger piece of white cotton.<br />
<br />
3. Trim all the fabrics. <br />
<br />
4. Now, sew the strips together. At the edge of linnen und white cotton, sew in the lace braid.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iVg5c7QUL2Y/U2KbRL9PQyI/AAAAAAAAA6Y/14TpMqGpyqU/s1600/laundrybag6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iVg5c7QUL2Y/U2KbRL9PQyI/AAAAAAAAA6Y/14TpMqGpyqU/s1600/laundrybag6.jpg" height="320" width="211" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
5. Pin the large rectangle you just created to the circle (right on right) and sew it together. Sew a tunnel at the other side and then sew the bag´s side closed up to the tunnel´s starting point.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IHXS6WoWxd4/U2Ka9MI1EuI/AAAAAAAAA6Q/bA1lgLwhpm8/s1600/lingebag4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IHXS6WoWxd4/U2Ka9MI1EuI/AAAAAAAAA6Q/bA1lgLwhpm8/s1600/lingebag4.jpg" height="198" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
6. Pull the drawstring throught the tunnel, and turn the bag to the right side. Now sew on a small <br />
piece of drawstring as a tag.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--YImwb4ZE1g/U2KawEpejRI/AAAAAAAAA6I/sVhybnEwDxA/s1600/lingebag3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--YImwb4ZE1g/U2KawEpejRI/AAAAAAAAA6I/sVhybnEwDxA/s1600/lingebag3.jpg" height="249" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Your laundry bag is all done! Put in your laundry and enjoy the new order in you closet!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aLZcCg5YJmw/Uzhl2ACbCXI/AAAAAAAAA5E/fhQ-s6cAjvU/s1600/Kranz1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aLZcCg5YJmw/Uzhl2ACbCXI/AAAAAAAAA5E/fhQ-s6cAjvU/s1600/Kranz1.jpg" height="303" width="320" /></a></div>
When I nose around blogs and magazines, I often feel that one detail keeps jumping out at me. It seems to be everywhere. And either I hate it from the very depth of my heart (mustard yellow walls and fabrics!) or I end up loving it.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
In the last months, it have been those willow wreaths that every shabby chic or hampton style home owns in overflow that keep staring back at me. So when I did some gardening for my parents (payment for mooching food...) and ended up with a bunch of young hazel branches, I decided to save them from being shredded. After all, if life hands you hazel branches, make a wreath!<br />
<br />
And this is my creation. I want to state that it is nearly round. This is a point of pride, so please take note!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sd1TXGl7ZCA/UzhiAHUTPzI/AAAAAAAAA4I/alujjPuynYY/s1600/Weidenzweige+eingeweicht.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sd1TXGl7ZCA/UzhiAHUTPzI/AAAAAAAAA4I/alujjPuynYY/s1600/Weidenzweige+eingeweicht.jpg" height="200" width="132" /></a>Step one was making the wreath. You need only branches. Willow, hazel, or any other kind of non-brittle wood. Willow can often be found close to bodies of water, however small, so go looking there if you don´t find any in your garden.<br />
<br />
The wreath takes about twenty minutes to braid.<br />
<br />
After cutting down the branches and stripping them of their leaves, I put them in a shallow bath for a couple of hours.<br />
<br />
First, I formed a circle with one of the sturdier branches, fixing the ends by twisting them round each other. Then I wound the other branches around my first one, moving the starting points to get even volume.<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TQpYRf0M83s/Uzhkiw8tyZI/AAAAAAAAA4o/M9-M-vY7Hh4/s1600/Weidenring.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TQpYRf0M83s/Uzhkiw8tyZI/AAAAAAAAA4o/M9-M-vY7Hh4/s1600/Weidenring.jpg" height="163" width="200" /></a><br />
The tension of the bowed branches will hold them fast. I bend the <br />
thick ends in preparation before winding them in. The thin ends tended to break, but I just cut them off if that happened.<br />
<br />
After I had used up all my branches, I let the wreath dry. It quickly turned from slightly green to pure brown (which I prefer).<br />
<br />
For spring, I wanted to add some colour.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0331kTY1PuQ/UzhjpFs8fzI/AAAAAAAAA4g/Zmg-lIoI5pY/s1600/newspaper+fr%C3%BChling.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0331kTY1PuQ/UzhjpFs8fzI/AAAAAAAAA4g/Zmg-lIoI5pY/s1600/newspaper+fr%C3%BChling.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a>For the decoration, you need two pink satin ribbons (one slim, one broad), a couple of tiny glass bottles and some bellis flowers. <br />
<br />
I wrote down "Frühling" (meaning "spring") in word, using a different font for every letter. I spaced the letters so I had enough space to cut them for my bunting.<br />
<br />
Then I did a google image search for " newspaper". I immediatly found a cool one, copied the grafic into word and printed it. Then, I printed my letters on top of it. Next, I cut out a dragon shape around each letter, folded it in the middle and glued it to the slim ribbon.<br />
<br />
I fixed the bunting and the tiny bottles on my wreath. I used the large ribbon to hang the wreath to my door. Then I filled<br />
the bottles with water and put in pink bellis.<br />
<br />
Now spring greets me every time I come home!<br />

<br />
Normally I buy stuff to upcycle it, but these I liked just as they are.<br />
<br />
Most people I have shown it to hate the candle holder. What do you think? Should I keep it, or get rid of it? I liked the combination of silver and glass, but am getting slightly uncertain with all that critisism...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-INmCLIurmJY/UzxojGWAY7I/AAAAAAAAA5Y/XQPWA3fdaCQ/s1600/favfleamakrte+Kerzenst%C3%A4nder.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-INmCLIurmJY/UzxojGWAY7I/AAAAAAAAA5Y/XQPWA3fdaCQ/s1600/favfleamakrte+Kerzenst%C3%A4nder.jpg" height="640" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This little tea light holder was a spontaneous buy because it was so cheap, but it turned out to be awesome. It creates the most wonderful light effects! So definitly something you should keep an eye out for when you browse through flea markets.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Daf7DB7u7d4/Uzxooh2IQcI/AAAAAAAAA5g/8RXoo45ulJU/s1600/favfleamarketteelichthalter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Daf7DB7u7d4/Uzxooh2IQcI/AAAAAAAAA5g/8RXoo45ulJU/s1600/favfleamarketteelichthalter.jpg" height="572" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
These two vases were very cheap, too. I love the colour, but I am not sure - are they too vintage for my style?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pQjaYy632ZU/UzxotgLe-YI/AAAAAAAAA5o/xIBELkU8JNE/s1600/Favfleamarketvasen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pQjaYy632ZU/UzxotgLe-YI/AAAAAAAAA5o/xIBELkU8JNE/s1600/Favfleamarketvasen.jpg" height="532" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
What do you think? What have you bought at fleamarkets lately?Yanahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02579485439412168980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8239426945713700740.post-38193466932002942872014-04-05T12:43:00.000-07:002014-04-05T12:43:00.317-07:00Quail´s Egg WreathI adore the coloring and delicacy of quail´s eggs, so I wanted to create a fun decor using them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lCGNDQ_epII/UzxoU1424iI/AAAAAAAAA5Q/IO-qd7hQBI8/s1600/Wachtelkranz.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lCGNDQ_epII/UzxoU1424iI/AAAAAAAAA5Q/IO-qd7hQBI8/s1600/Wachtelkranz.jpg" height="632" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I found some at a big supermarket, used my super cool tool to blow out eggs (read about it <a href="http://indiyvidual.blogspot.com/2014/03/copper-easter-eggs.html">here</a>) and threaded them onto a circle of wire.<br />
<br />
It is very simple, but still cute!Yanahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02579485439412168980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8239426945713700740.post-50923190030649033302014-03-30T11:11:00.000-07:002014-04-02T23:00:22.742-07:00Easterly Yeast BunsOne of my favourite traditions for easter is making yeast buns. They taste great and are very easy to make. This year, I wanted to pretty them up a little and decided to make a chicken family.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--JjuEZ1Evn4/UzhcZvXMPeI/AAAAAAAAA3w/Ty0j9Li34ms/s1600/CHickens.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--JjuEZ1Evn4/UzhcZvXMPeI/AAAAAAAAA3w/Ty0j9Li34ms/s1600/CHickens.jpg" height="618" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You need:<br />
<br />
600 g / 5 cups of flour<br />
120 g / 1/2 cup of sugar<br />
60 g / 1/4 cup of butter<br />
one package of fresh yeast<br />
2 egg yolks<br />
1/4 l / 8 fl. oz. of milk<br />
some raisins <br />
<br />
Mix all and let the dough rise.<br />
<br />
Form a long roll and coil it to a circle, forming a body and neck with a head.<br />
<br />
Differ the rolls length so you get a large rooster and chicken and small chicklets. Add details like a coxcomb or wings for the chicklets and use a raisin for each eye.<br />
<br />
Bake 30 Minutes at 200 ° C/ 400 ° F<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

But I promised myself I would paint twice as many eggs this year instead. I am really trying to keep up with that promise, so here is my second idea for modern and cool easter eggs.<br />

If you want to create some grafic black and white eggs yourself, you need to blow out a ton of white eggs. There is a cheap and very useful tool for it which I describe <a href="http://indiyvidual.blogspot.com/2014/03/copper-easter-eggs.html">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4NJtJFUPSyM/UzScMqSDyjI/AAAAAAAAA3g/lXLbBisIe_4/s1600/graficeggs3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4NJtJFUPSyM/UzScMqSDyjI/AAAAAAAAA3g/lXLbBisIe_4/s1600/graficeggs3.jpg" height="400" width="320" /></a>Take a black edding and start drawing grafic patterns on some of the eggs. Do lines, rectangles, small crosses, dots - whatever you like. My favourite is the one on the right.<br />
<br />
I first painted it in a diamond pattern that didn´t work out and I needed a way to cover the wrong lines. Best proof that mistakes happen for a reason!<br />
<br />
Mix the painted eggs with the white ones and present as you like.<br />
<br />
My cookie jar is empty right now because I am trying not to eat any sweets before easter (three more weeks to go....), so it seemed the perfect way to present them. But next year, I will probably string them up.<br />
<br />
Have you created any black and white eggs?<br />

Their colours are so pretty, and they exist in so many awesome variations. Today´s project made sure I will never be without pansies this spring or any spring to come! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_sanFDoEBvc/Uy_gUKwWkXI/AAAAAAAAA28/Rg1OUH9FO4o/s1600/pansygalrandnah.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_sanFDoEBvc/Uy_gUKwWkXI/AAAAAAAAA28/Rg1OUH9FO4o/s1600/pansygalrandnah.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-pin-config="above" data-pin-do="buttonPin" href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Findiyvidual.blogspot.com%2F2014%2F03%2Fa-garland-of-pansies.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-_sanFDoEBvc%2FUy_gUKwWkXI%2FAAAAAAAAA28%2FRg1OUH9FO4o%2Fs1600%2Fpansygalrandnah.jpg&description=Pansy%20Garland" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/pidgets/pinit_fg_en_rect_gray_20.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<!-- Please call pinit.js only once per page -->You need to press and dry 12 - 15 pansy flowers. I just bought one plant for about 70 cents (so 1 $) cut off the flowers when they started blooming and pressed them in my huge law books (they should be good for some fun after all!).<br />
<br />
After a week to ten days, they were dry. Pansies keep their colour wonderfully, even dried.<br />
<br />
Then, I laminated the flowers. My Mom has a laminating machine, but I think you can get stuff laminated at every copy shop. One DIN-A 4 laminating sheet is enough.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TIaMRmTi258/Uy_fwYnITyI/AAAAAAAAA20/CU9bF-aQQ04/s1600/pansygalrandsupplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TIaMRmTi258/Uy_fwYnITyI/AAAAAAAAA20/CU9bF-aQQ04/s1600/pansygalrandsupplies.jpg" height="298" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zHVns_sqCC4/Uy_fbZtx89I/AAAAAAAAA2s/_HqBCuTuy6k/s1600/pansygarland+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zHVns_sqCC4/Uy_fbZtx89I/AAAAAAAAA2s/_HqBCuTuy6k/s1600/pansygarland+2.jpg" height="640" width="128" /></a>Cut out each pansy, following the outline of the flower, leaving about 1 cm / 0,3 in of plastic.<br />
<br />
Thread some white yarn through a sewing needle. Poke a hole in the upper plastic edging of the smallest flower, take the second smallest and poke a hole through its lower plastic edging.<br />
<br />
Close the yarn with a knot so there are about 3 cm / 1in between each flower. Cut the yarn off close to the knot.<br />
<br />
Repeat with each flower, increasing their size.<br />
<br />
Put a loop at the top of the biggest flower and hang the garland wherever you need some spring happiness. Because it is laminated, it should keep for years!<br />
<br />
Have you created something fun with dried flowers this year?<br />

But now the holidays are only about a month away, so I finally allowed myself to start.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F2GrZxwmTxE/UyoWT2W7EzI/AAAAAAAAA2Q/azkV9lLP3oE/s1600/Kupfereier.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F2GrZxwmTxE/UyoWT2W7EzI/AAAAAAAAA2Q/azkV9lLP3oE/s1600/Kupfereier.jpg" height="640" width="616" /></a></div>
<br />
<a data-pin-config="above" data-pin-do="buttonPin" href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Findiyvidual.blogspot.com%2F2014%2F03%2Fcopper-easter-eggs.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-F2GrZxwmTxE%2FUyoWT2W7EzI%2FAAAAAAAAA2Q%2FazkV9lLP3oE%2Fs1600%2FKupfereier.jpg&description=Copper%20Easter%20Eggs"><img src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/pidgets/pinit_fg_en_rect_gray_20.png" /></a>
<!-- Please call pinit.js only once per page -->
<script async="" src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js" type="text/javascript"></script> I began a quest for white free range eggs (honestly, why does every store think they have to be brown?) and bought the most awesome little instrument to blow out eggs: a mixture of a syringe and bellows. You drill in only one (small) hole, enter the tube and pump in air so the egg white and yolk are presse out. You can use it also to pump in water and get the water out again.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-V7HlidiFfFk/UyoWcUKfgeI/AAAAAAAAA2Y/ocYSH1RnUkY/s1600/nest.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-V7HlidiFfFk/UyoWcUKfgeI/AAAAAAAAA2Y/ocYSH1RnUkY/s1600/nest.jpg" height="273" width="320" /></a>So, for 3 bucks I got clean eggs with one tiny hole and no risk of catching salmonellae. Check out <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Cabin%C2%AE-60092-Egg-Blower/dp/B0014DKEJE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395266361&sr=8-1&keywords=egg+blower+tool">http://www.amazon.com/Egg-Blower</a> to see what it looks like.<br />
<br />
My first project is a modern and elegant approach to easter eggs.<br />
<br />
I took my blown out eggs, and covered them in beat copper (check out how to do that <a href="http://indiyvidual.blogspot.com/2014/01/my-guestpost-copper-twine-copper-lamp.html">here</a>), the I gathered a few fresh birch twigs and formed a nest.<br />
<br />
Ok, it is more a ring than a nest but you can´t see it when the eggs lie inside. Honestly, how do birds do that? I really tried but no nest...<br />

<!-- Please call pinit.js only once per page -->
<script async="" src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js" type="text/javascript"></script><br />
I am not all that vain, but still, I do want one full size mirror in
my flat. So I was very happy to encounter a used Ikea Ram mirror at a
flea market last fall - got it for only one Euro!<br />
<br />
But
as a standing mirror it turned out to be too short - if you are not
really fixated on your feet, as you can see little else (besides the
fact that I need to straighten up my flat...).<br />
<br />
And I just plain couldn´t figure out how to get it high enough! You know, seven years of bad luck if it breaks...<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sjcWoRMp3zA/UyIIMVkLLeI/AAAAAAAAA2E/LR2XHZEoyzw/s1600/Spiegel+nah.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sjcWoRMp3zA/UyIIMVkLLeI/AAAAAAAAA2E/LR2XHZEoyzw/s1600/Spiegel+nah.jpg" height="307" width="320" /></a>I
could have mounted it on some wood, but I was afraid I might knock it
down when carrying a big bag in my tiny hallway.<br />
<br />
A hook in the back seemed to whimsical to me. My solution up till
know was to put the mirror on my bed or couch when I needed it which
wasn´t really a solution at all. And than it hit me. An epiphany,
really.<br />
<br />
Why not hang it on a leather string?<br />
<br />
So
I hand drilled (yes, I did!) a hole in each side of the wooden frame
and pulled through a leather band. I think it really gave the simple
mirror a little chic!<br />

It was really too hot for march, but I am not complaining! From a crafting point of view good weather means I can finally use lacquer again, because I don´t like to do that indoors<br />
<br />
Concerning crafts and lacquer, I have a favorite project of mine to share with you today. I love it because a) it is quite easy and b) I am totally delighted with my result!<br />

I have spent the last five years in Freiburg, a city right on the edge of the black forest. So when I moved away, I wanted to create a keepsake to honor that time. The choice of a cuckoo clock was quite easy, as there is little as connected to the black forest as that ticking bird´s home.<br />
<br />
I actually owned a traditional cuckoo clock when I was small, but my taste has changed some and I did not want all that dark wood and tons of curlicues to clutter my room.<br />
<br />
They sell a modern version that is just a silhouette painted in all imaginable colors (pink seems to be a customers favorite). But as I did not want to drop 40 € on that, I decided to do it myself, which is more fun anyway. <br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
You need:<br />
<br />
- pencil, paper, scissors<br />
- plywood, 4mm, about 50 x 30 cm<br />
- fret saw and blades<br />
- sanding paper<br />
- drill<br />
- lacquer (for a shiny finish) in whatever color you like. Bold colors do make a great statement, but I seem to be in a light blue phase (remember the 3D word art?)<br />
- clockwork (I used an old one taken off a cheap clock I did not like anymore)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w02FUGdMz4U/Uxy9Rt4EgZI/AAAAAAAAA1I/x1HLa4YsqwI/s1600/Skizzencucoo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w02FUGdMz4U/Uxy9Rt4EgZI/AAAAAAAAA1I/x1HLa4YsqwI/s1600/Skizzencucoo.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a>1. Choose a silhouette you like. You can use mine, or do a google image search for "(modern) cuckoo <br />
clock". I did not like the designs on top of the clocks I found, so I searched for a picture of a roaring stag and put that on top of mine. As you can see left, I did a lot of sketches to get a silhouette I really liked, but that is not necessary.<br />
<br />
2. Enlarge the silhouette to the size you want and cut it out. Put it on top of the plywood and trace it.<br />
<br />
3. Do your sawing. If you need to cut out some internal pieces (like between the stag´s legs) first drill a hole, than enter your saw blade.<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eHPLNR2pwzg/Uxy9YypYUEI/AAAAAAAAA1Q/DCfXMCkswJU/s1600/Cuckooskizze2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eHPLNR2pwzg/Uxy9YypYUEI/AAAAAAAAA1Q/DCfXMCkswJU/s1600/Cuckooskizze2.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a><br />
4. Sand down the edges.<br />
<br />
5. Mark the middle of the clock and drill a hole for the clockwork.<br />
<br />
6. Paint the wood.<br />
<br />
7. Enter your clockwork and set the watch.<br />
<br />
This is a project for one afternoon, with great results. Be sure to try it out, even if you did not live in the black forest!<br />

But I got an awesome B&A today!<br />
<br />
I love to put up branches, especially in springtime. Compared to flowers, they really fill up a space and have a special grafic impact against a light wall. However, I didn´t have a floor vase for the longest time, but that ended at my last flea market trip.<br />
<br />
This is what my beauty looks like now: <br />
<br />

I just adore grey - it´s calm, modern and has so many facettes!<br />
<br />
This is what the vase looked like before I brushed on a couple of layers acrylic paint:<br />

I guess it is a seventies leftover, based on the colors ( I am so bad at placing styles timewise!) and someone had to give it some TLC very urgently. Good for me, this way I got it cheap.<br />
<br />
The patterns were what I was after, and they come out wonderfully in grey!<br />

<br />
Sometimes, cool trends are just fun to follow for a while. And sometimes, a trend will show you a whole new world and you know immediately: for me, this is love forever. When the copper trend started last year or so, when I saw those modern pieces made of that warm, shiny, elegant metal it was Love. On. First. Sight.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1OlgLoWQqHM/Uw5CIOgG3SI/AAAAAAAAAz4/VE_Rdw1QPUQ/s1600/copperpipe2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1OlgLoWQqHM/Uw5CIOgG3SI/AAAAAAAAAz4/VE_Rdw1QPUQ/s1600/copperpipe2.jpg" height="269" width="320" /></a>When I encountered some copper pipes in a hardware store, inspiration struck. I have seen some copper candle holders in interior design magazines, and I wanted the same sleek look.<br />
<br />
This project is a lot of fun because it is like playing with Legos: if you put the pieces together right, you can build nearly everything you want.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
I bought: (the size in in/ft is only approximate)<br />
<br />
2 m ( 7 ft) of 12mm (0.3 in) copper pipe<br />
four "junction" pieces<br />
four pieces curved 90 °<br />
four transition pieces from 12 mm (0.3 in) to 20mm (0.75 in)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZeSFLHcFdIw/Uw5CSNurGXI/AAAAAAAAA0A/8sFZKhbyhrk/s1600/copperpipe+nah.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZeSFLHcFdIw/Uw5CSNurGXI/AAAAAAAAA0A/8sFZKhbyhrk/s1600/copperpipe+nah.jpg" height="320" width="291" /></a></div>
I cut the pipe into:<br />
<br />
four pieces of pipe of about 28 cm (10 in)<br />
two pieces of pipe of about 12 cm (4 in)<br />
two pieces of about 15 cm (5 in)<br />
<br />
It was great, I could use a metal saw in the hardware store and didn´t have to buy one. A hurray to customer friendliness!<br />
<br />
Then I put the pieces together and fixed them with hot glue.<br />
You can see the way I put the junction piece and curved piece together in the first picture, and the transition pieces as the actual candle holders in the second.<br />
The four long pieces of pipe are the vertical ones, the two short ones go between the junction pieces. <br />
<br />
I wanted that symmetrical look, but I might build something else later on - I just have to peel of the hot glue and I can reuse the pieces I already have.<br />
<br />
What do you think about the copper trend - is it bound to be over soon, or is it going to stay around in your home for a while?<br />

Pretty pictures are awesome.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WAGK7qoReBM/Uw2ygQqmjjI/AAAAAAAAAzg/UOyJC-YuGdU/s1600/gallerywall+bw+full2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WAGK7qoReBM/Uw2ygQqmjjI/AAAAAAAAAzg/UOyJC-YuGdU/s1600/gallerywall+bw+full2.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pI-rQcI8V1I/UwpJ4P6cj_I/AAAAAAAAAzE/oNqL3syMbis/s1600/Flamingo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pI-rQcI8V1I/UwpJ4P6cj_I/AAAAAAAAAzE/oNqL3syMbis/s1600/Flamingo.jpg" height="640" width="290" /></a>Okay, that is kind of obvious. And you would think, the more the merrier, right? But a room can´t handle four walls full of decoration - especially in a small apartment. Empty, light walls offer some breathing space.<br />
<br />
On the other hand, too few pictures can easily look lost.<br />
<br />
This is were gallery walls come into play -the decor is centered on one wall, the pieces complimenting each other, but not overwhelming the whole room.<br />
<br />
Gallery walls can also serve as a kind of mood board - matching your present design passions, the season, your favourite medium.<br />
<br />
I have been growing my gallery wall since I moved in, mixing frames with improvised hangers, switching the artwork to fit my mood.<br />
<br />
I have also kind of grown addicted to drawing in black pen in the last
months - everything looks crisp and clean, and you can do a lot of
doodling to fill in the empty spaces. So I wanted to present my drawings in a cool way.<br />
<br />
I especially adore this
flamingo I drew.<br />
<br />
It was even pretty easy to do. I looked for a photo of a
flamingo online, sketched the outline and then filled it with different
sized circles (body) and lines (legs).<br />
<br />

Here is another
example: I sketched a rhino´s outline and then filled each space with a
different kind of pattern. What do you think, should I finish it or
leave it as is? I am undecided yet...<br />
<br />
If you want to
get started with drawing in black pen, I would advise you to copy a few
pieces first, to learn about other peoples way of doodling before
getting all creative yourself. It´s what I did, and it worked great for me.<br />

As my drawings were in black in white, I decided to go all black and white in my gallery wall for now. So this is what it looks like right now:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X5VJxnoAv2M/Uw2xd1GFY2I/AAAAAAAAAzY/NegBMNRooXQ/s1600/gallerywallbwfull1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X5VJxnoAv2M/Uw2xd1GFY2I/AAAAAAAAAzY/NegBMNRooXQ/s1600/gallerywallbwfull1.jpg" height="640" width="618" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
You remember how I talked about <a href="http://indiyvidual.blogspot.com/2013/08/digitalizing-old-photos.html">digitalizing my family´s old photos</a>? They really fit the black and white theme! And my <a href="http://indiyvidual.blogspot.com/2014/02/polished-by-paint-mirror-to-frame.html">grey, frilly frame</a> adds a little diversity, as do the wooden and metallic accents and the neon masking tape! And you can hang up so much more than just picture - just take whatever tickles your imagination and fits the theme - like one of those paint color testers (do they have an official name???) or your pearls.<br />
<br />
I love it, but I am already thinking about what to go for next - perhaps a little color for springtime? And that may be the best thing about gallery walls - they are always evolving.<br />

A sure case of too many ideas and too little time!<br />
Another thing I am always hanging onto is corks. They are sooo pretty. But this time, I finally did use them!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KlW2zGYwlR8/UvvdOxukI3I/AAAAAAAAAxU/NRX3XtHwJWQ/s1600/korkuntersetzer2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KlW2zGYwlR8/UvvdOxukI3I/AAAAAAAAAxU/NRX3XtHwJWQ/s1600/korkuntersetzer2.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Pot holders are always needed, but not always pretty. This one really is, and it is easy to do. BTW I did not empty all those bottles myself!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fNYXa6aRGAg/UvveAk1yq3I/AAAAAAAAAxk/StwlOnBiJfE/s1600/korkuntersetzer3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fNYXa6aRGAg/UvveAk1yq3I/AAAAAAAAAxk/StwlOnBiJfE/s1600/korkuntersetzer3.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a>Arrange an assortement of corks in a circle. The pretty pictures should be outside, and put some winestained bottoms up, and some down.<br />
<br />
Once you have formed a circle, wrap it tigthly in twine. This is a little tricky, so don´t pull the twine to tight!<br />
<br />
After knotting the twine, push in a couple more corks until the twine is really tight and really holds the corks together.<br />
<br />
I think this pot holder is perfect for a rustic look!<br />

Besides, cooking is kind of like crafting with food, so it even sort of fits the theme of my blog ; ).<br />
<br />
When it is cold and nasty outside, I don´t want salad, I want carbohydrates. And I think that as long as they are mixed with vegetables, all is good. So I made my favourite Spaghetti Bolognese, a recipe I got from a friend. Spaghetti Bolognese is pretty good even with the simplest recipe, but this one is simply mouthwatering!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uoDLzSZYqpM/UvekURXIU3I/AAAAAAAAAvo/aD58bTkdVvU/s1600/Bolognese+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uoDLzSZYqpM/UvekURXIU3I/AAAAAAAAAvo/aD58bTkdVvU/s1600/Bolognese+2.jpg" height="640" width="432" /></a></div>
<br />
For four persons, you need<br />
<br />
3 onions<br />
3 carrots<br />
3 cloves of garlic<br />
400 g/ 90 lb champingnons <br />
about 400g/ 90 lb of ground beef<br />
1 tube of tomato paste<br />
3 cans of tomatoes<br />
sugar, salt, pepper,<br />
200ml / 2 cups of beef broth<br />
basil leaves<br />
<br />
1.Cut the onions and carrots into small cubes and fry them in olive oil. Add the ground beef and crushed garlic. Clean the mushrooms with a paper towel, cube them roughly and add them as well.<br />
<br />
2. When all is well fried, deglaze with the beef broth. Add tomatoes and tomato paste, a little salt, pepper and sugar.<br />
<br />
3. Let it simmer for 1/2-1 hour - the longer the better!<br />
<br />

My Mom had some leftover blue velvet hidden away in some closet, so I decided to go for it and make a round pillow with pleats. It was easy to do, and I love the result!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ax1PBWli9Wg/UvvTNRNItyI/AAAAAAAAAv0/nXXG_6C3OOY/s1600/Kissen+blau+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ax1PBWli9Wg/UvvTNRNItyI/AAAAAAAAAv0/nXXG_6C3OOY/s1600/Kissen+blau+2.jpg" height="640" width="456" /></a></div>

<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
You need: <br />
- two big pieces of dark blue velvet, 120 cm x 40 cm/ 50 in x 16 in<br />
- two smaller square pieces (one dark, one light blue), each side about 15 cm/ 6 in<br />
- 3 m/ 10 ft of twine<br />
- padding<br />
- a piece of cardboard <br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bZd3fGUqltM/UvvVR2YlmrI/AAAAAAAAAwA/eEYBEDGRDsg/s1600/P1020955.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bZd3fGUqltM/UvvVR2YlmrI/AAAAAAAAAwA/eEYBEDGRDsg/s1600/P1020955.jpg" height="149" width="200" /></a>1. Sew a tunnel at one length of each large piece of velvet. Put a piece of twine into the tunnel (it must be something that won´t rip), and pull until the velvet forms a circle and the hole in the middle is nearly closed. Make a knot and cut off the leftover twine.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5zAJmWc2M3c/UvvVYohngfI/AAAAAAAAAwI/w7QgbP5z3Lw/s1600/blaues+kissen4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5zAJmWc2M3c/UvvVYohngfI/AAAAAAAAAwI/w7QgbP5z3Lw/s1600/blaues+kissen4.jpg" height="150" width="200" /></a><br />
2. Sew the two small sides of each piece together to close the circle.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Bqp96LNsOCw/UvvV3rImZII/AAAAAAAAAwg/62isI21DSQk/s1600/blaueskissen6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Bqp96LNsOCw/UvvV3rImZII/AAAAAAAAAwg/62isI21DSQk/s1600/blaueskissen6.jpg" height="131" width="200" /></a><br />
3. Sew the two circles together right on right, leaving a small <br />
opening to stuff it. Turn the fabric inside out and<br />
stuff the pillow. Then, sew the opeing closed using small, tidy stitches.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uJdCOhzoYxU/UvvVithcN8I/AAAAAAAAAwQ/RmW5jHpSVoA/s1600/P1030266.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uJdCOhzoYxU/UvvVithcN8I/AAAAAAAAAwQ/RmW5jHpSVoA/s1600/P1030266.jpg" height="150" width="200" /></a>4. Use a small glass to draw two circles on the cardboard. Cut <br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uNkyjRLSMng/UvvWsaF9ZJI/AAAAAAAAAws/BWkKOtuwxNw/s1600/knopf2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uNkyjRLSMng/UvvWsaF9ZJI/AAAAAAAAAws/BWkKOtuwxNw/s1600/knopf2.jpg" height="157" width="200" /></a>them out and place each on top of a square pieces of fabric and some padding. Sew roughly around the edges, taking the yarn not only double, but quadruple. Pull the yarn tightly together and make a knot. That easily, you have created a pretty button!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0eo516ggW84/UvvW2vFJDmI/AAAAAAAAAw0/bekYccnBkN0/s1600/knopf3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0eo516ggW84/UvvW2vFJDmI/AAAAAAAAAw0/bekYccnBkN0/s1600/knopf3.jpg" height="177" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
5. Use the leftover yarn to fix the button in the middle of the pillow, pulling strongly to form an indention.<br />
<br />
6. Create the second button, and sew it onto the other side. This way, you can switch sides- one with an accent button, one more simple.<br />
<br />

There are many jewellry holders on the market, but most are boring or stand around and take up a lot of space. Jewellry is so pretty, it should be used to decorate your home, not be a enervating piece of clutter.<br />
So I decided to create a piece of wall art that served as a jewellry holder. I love art noveau womens portraits and this was the moment to hang one up!<br />
<br />
You need:<br />
<br />
- cork pin board<br />
- acrylic paint<br />
- couple of small nails<br />
<br />
If you are worried your artistic skills won´t match this project, don´t worry, I have a couple of ideas how to do this even if you can´t draw and paint all that well, so just read on.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
1. First thing is looking for inspiration. I chose this portrait of Alfons Mucha as my example.<br />
<br />
2. Take the cork board and cover it in a couple of layers of white paint.
The paint dries quite slowly on the cork, so it takes some time.<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MOJWNm1VcJs/UvZF41koyXI/AAAAAAAAAuc/8JQLs-MYKhE/s1600/ohne+Jewellry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MOJWNm1VcJs/UvZF41koyXI/AAAAAAAAAuc/8JQLs-MYKhE/s1600/ohne+Jewellry.jpg" height="320" width="226" /></a><br />
3. While the paint dried, I did a couple of sketches to know what I wanted to paint. If you like my <br />
portrait, just print the picture on the right and trace the lines in chalk. Than you can transfer the outlines onto your cork board.<br />
<br />
If you want to create your own portrait, important features of art nouveau portraits are the big hair, big eyes, small nose and mouth and the draped dress. Ornaments will be added through your jewellry. The good thing is that it can be simplified. Me, I did a very simple nose cause I don´t like painting noses.<br />
<br />
4. I first painted the outlines in black. It is easier if you draw them in thick black pen! Hardest part is the eyes, because they <br />
should be nearly symmetrical. But if you mess up, another layer or two of white paint will erase all your problems.<br />
It is important to put slim black strips in the iris to create striations and make the eyes look more real. Also, leave a dot of white in the pupil!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wlFiwT6Zvtw/UvZGUaSR3bI/AAAAAAAAAus/6NSQjNdRRig/s1600/Auge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wlFiwT6Zvtw/UvZGUaSR3bI/AAAAAAAAAus/6NSQjNdRRig/s1600/Auge.jpg" height="265" width="320" /></a>5. Once the outlines are done, it is time to fill them with paint. This is pretty simple, because you don´t have to do any shading. The colors can be switched around as you like. I chose reddish brown hair (maybe I subconsciously tried to do a portrait of myself?). Personally, I adore the metallic sheen of the dress!<br />
<br />
6. Once the paint has dried, repaint or redraw the outlines.<br />
<br />
7. With just the portrait the board looked a little empty, so I added art nouveau-like ornaments in the upper corners. Then, I painted the frame in the same gold as the dress and adorned it with a black pattern. The dots I made with the end of my brush. I did it free handed, but it didn´t turn out all that even, so I would use a ruler if I were to do it again.<br />
<br />
EASY ALTERNATIVE to 1-7: If you feel uncomfortable doing any painting at all, you can still create a similar jewellry board. Look for a nice portrait of Alfons Mucha online e.g. on the<a href="http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Alfons_mucha_obraz_1.jpg?uselang=en" target="_blank"> Alfons Muchas wiki commons page</a>. He is like, THE art nouveau poster artist, and I am sure you will fall in love with at least one of his picture<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XE1-QMmh-8E/UvZIcUgQmDI/AAAAAAAAAvA/BSy7qcO5E5w/s1600/Kette.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XE1-QMmh-8E/UvZIcUgQmDI/AAAAAAAAAvA/BSy7qcO5E5w/s1600/Kette.jpg" height="400" width="282" /></a><br />
The copyright on his works has ended, as he died more than seventy years ago, so you can legally download the pictures. Open the picture with a programm like pixlr.com and crop it to the face. Get it printed the size you need at the copy shop or as a photograph. <br />
<br />
Glue the picture to the cork board. I think spray glue would work best. And this easy, you have nearly the same effect!<br />
<br />
8: Use the nails to create a few holes to put in ear studs. Then, fix the nails in the cork.<br />
They should be placed in a way that makes your jewellry look like necklaces, earrings, piercings or <br />
hairclips<br />
<br />
For the necklaces, I put in three nails in a triangle. This way, I can shorten the necklaces by wrapping them around the middle nail. <br />
<br />
Put on your jewellry and hang up your combined artwork and jewellry board.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And now I have finally done it - and it worked! I wanted a fun little flower pot that looked sculptural and rock like. Fits the actual geometrical trend as well!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EDkwSdSssiQ/UvJ8XxpxheI/AAAAAAAAAtQ/RLlTMs3IF3Q/s1600/Beton+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EDkwSdSssiQ/UvJ8XxpxheI/AAAAAAAAAtQ/RLlTMs3IF3Q/s1600/Beton+1.jpg" height="640" width="464" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
Okay, only the project I show you today worked. Concerning the second flower pot I planned for, it was a fault to use a glass jar to form the hollow in the middle. I have officially learned that once you put something into concrete, it stays there, if it isn´t rippable. (You know, I can hear you mutter "Duh").<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0dUyE8Vh0Lw/UvJ9Ho2LwLI/AAAAAAAAAtY/57hGN_Jf7Zc/s1600/Beton2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0dUyE8Vh0Lw/UvJ9Ho2LwLI/AAAAAAAAAtY/57hGN_Jf7Zc/s1600/Beton2.jpg" height="320" width="195" /></a>I planned to shatter the glass when the concrete was dry, but the concrete shattered, too. Perhaps I will try it with oil or something the next time.<br />
<br />
Okay, enough about my failures, on to the part that worked. <br />
<br />
I created the mould using a small plastic package that held some sort <br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UlhDjwZr2gE/UvJ9TZCy4BI/AAAAAAAAAtg/DSM9KEaPOFU/s1600/beton3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UlhDjwZr2gE/UvJ9TZCy4BI/AAAAAAAAAtg/DSM9KEaPOFU/s1600/beton3.jpg" height="168" width="200" /></a>of potpourri or so. At first I mainly cut and folded, than I used the pieces of plastic I had cut off to close the gaps. I attached them with duct tape.<br />
<br />
I can´t really be more precise, cause I just worked spontaneously, but here is what you have to look out for: Create triangles and tetragons, but no rectangles. The mould should jump forward and back, not just go straight up. Just think about a crystalline rock.<br />
<br />
In the middle I put a toilet paper roll. I fixed it to the bottom of the mould using duct tape. Then it was time to fill the mould with concrete. Next time I will work outside or use a face mask, cause the concrete dust really made me cough!<br />
<br />
Then, I waited a week before cutting off the mould. With some repairs, I could have used it again, but I decided to trash it. The toilet paper roll, I could rip off without problems. I was pleasently surprised that the cardboard held up so well!<br />
<br />
I sanded the concrete slightly and brushed off the dust. Then I painted some of the planes. I wanted a little color, somethink shiny that contrasted the grey concrete. Can you guess what I used?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lIKyjD-VY80/UvJ9fbXSvaI/AAAAAAAAAto/DOOMdnvAZOE/s1600/beton4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lIKyjD-VY80/UvJ9fbXSvaI/AAAAAAAAAto/DOOMdnvAZOE/s1600/beton4.jpg" height="143" width="200" /></a>Leftover nailpolish! It was pretty dried up, but for this, it was great! I used three different variations of red, because that´s what I had on hand.<br />
<br />
Last, I bought a sansevieria and put it in my pot.<br />
<br />
Have you done any cool concrete objects? Do you have any advice for my next try?<br />

And most of these transformation are due to simple paint. It is cheap, it is easy, it is great!<br />
<br />
So in the first post of each month, I will try to show you one piece whose true beauty has been revealed just by brushing on some paint . Today, I bring you this frilly frame.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wkagv-jgfxQ/UuUu74P3WYI/AAAAAAAAAos/qyjABW7s_As/s1600/mirrorframe1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wkagv-jgfxQ/UuUu74P3WYI/AAAAAAAAAos/qyjABW7s_As/s1600/mirrorframe1.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<a data-pin-config="above" data-pin-do="buttonPin" href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Findiyvidual.blogspot.com%2F2014%2F02%2Fpolished-by-paint-mirror-to-frame.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-Wkagv-jgfxQ%2FUuUu74P3WYI%2FAAAAAAAAAos%2FqyjABW7s_As%2Fs1600%2Fmirrorframe1.jpg&description=Painted%20Frame"><img src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/pidgets/pinit_fg_en_rect_gray_20.png" /></a>

<br />
It originally was a plastic, fake gold mirror. I just bought it because I always need more frames and it cost only one Euro.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lY9Jk5o2YSM/UuUuzJNKXRI/AAAAAAAAAok/eNdl0yAdlQg/s1600/Mirrorbarouqu+vorher.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lY9Jk5o2YSM/UuUuzJNKXRI/AAAAAAAAAok/eNdl0yAdlQg/s1600/Mirrorbarouqu+vorher.jpg" height="400" width="350" /></a></div>
<br />
The mirror could be taken out like a picture. I painted the frame with grey acrylic paint, doing two layers to get good couverage. I planned to put in a drawing. But when I hung it up empty - just to check if I like the color - I thought it looked great that way, Really, it is such a statement piece, no picture should distract from it´s ornaments.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GDETJkSqqMM/UuUy9_CJeoI/AAAAAAAAAo8/3mNBv0JXHCU/s1600/Barouquemirror.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GDETJkSqqMM/UuUy9_CJeoI/AAAAAAAAAo8/3mNBv0JXHCU/s1600/Barouquemirror.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
What do you think? Can your home handle fake barouque or is it too much?<br />
