I know the year is not quite over yet, but I'm sure you all agree, 2012 full of all its magic and tragic events flew by us at what seems a split second behind the speed of light!

So I hope my fellow friends in the southern hemisphere had a super Christmas and enjoying family time as we prepare for New Years Eve and 2013.

Those of my northern hemisphere friends, Merry Christmas! Hope your day is a stunning one.

Yesterday was a full on day for my family & I, full of many special times and delightful memories. Thank you family! Naturally with new years fast approaching, I have been thinking of new years resolutions!

I must refine them, but hey they always change and some will be deemed unimportant eventually. Things I am thinking of are:

Spend more quality time with my family, do more trekking, do more baking, finish my diploma, start up yoga again, take more photo's, blog more and save money for an overseas trip!

I would love to read what you NY reso's are, together we can grow and support each other.

Earlier this month Hubby and I took the future adults to Zealandia in Wellington. http://www.visitzealandia.com/

Such a magical place, that is highly recommended, the entry I would liken to a Jurassic park scene, with a hugh protective fence and earthquake warning (Wellington, not a place I would want to be in an earthquake full stop). But that aside, once you are in, you will be amazed. A gentle walk leads you to beautiful native bird life, flora and fauna. The lake is man made and suffers a bit of algae, but other than that it's a magical place and well worth the trip. Here are a few snaps below...

Zealandia also makes a beautiful wedding venue. If you are looking for a unique venue where you are close to nature, this is undeniably your spot! Check out their website, they have a wedding information pack to download for more information. I had always wanted to check out Zealandia, however after booking Maura & Steve's wedding photography there, I had a firm reason to check out the venue. It's not always possible to pre check wedding venues first, however I am glad I set the time aside! I not only put my own mind at rest but my family had a fun well deserved trip away.

Well as I sit on my couch writing and glancing over my lounge, I'm reminded that my house was hit by a mad Christmas pressie monster (or was it two monsters?) and I have housework to do ><, so I will leave you now to enjoy your festive time.

I'm not after an Accolade!

I'm not after an accolade, but maybe someone to do my housework wouldn't go astray...Finally I have a new blog entry!

I really hate it when I loose touch with friends, family and "blogging", I do apologise it has been a couple of months now since my last blog! Confessions to make, I have been busy with my number one LOVE; my family! then my full time work as a Product Development Technologist, studying, photographic portrait and wedding assignments and a wee holiday to my favourite place Mt Ruapehu and Tongariro National Park.

Life gets awesomely busy, I like it this way. If I'm not busy, I'm not alive.

I'm no "supermum", many people a lot more than I do.

Yes I work Full time as well and it's in a non photographic role too! I work in the food industry and have done for 20 years! I love food and I love my work! I know I am one of those lucky young photographers that has the security of a day job, but the thing is I want to do both and try to do them both well!

On the side I been studying towards a Diploma in Digital Photography since early 2011. I am studying part time, hence why it is not completed yet. Watch this space, hopefully in 4 months time I will be sporting an official diploma! What an achievement that will be. Although I class myself as professional (part time) photographer, completely the diploma just formalises the fact that I'm serious about this passion and I'm no "fly by nighter" and I'm training to serve my clients in the best way I can.

I also have been involved in the Hawke's Bay Photographic Society (HBPS) for many years. A previous role as committee member and secretary for several years helped me immensely. the people I have met and assisted in my previous roles with the society have been amazing. HBPS is an affiliate of the Photographic Society of New Zealand. I am also a student member of New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP), I owe a lot to this institute and their amazing team of volunteers and supporters. If you are a young photographer, just starting out or even an experience photographer, I recommend that you do get in touch with NZIPP/PSNZ and find out about your local area branch and go along to some meetings to see what the national photographic institutes can do for you.

Well, this seems to be a long over due introduction and thanks for reading. Many of you know what I do and are very supportive and I thank you for that.

I have a major project to complete this year for my final paper and I have decided to write and photograph a cookbook. Some of you may remember me mentioning a book earlier when I started this blog. I have several ideas on a subject earlier on, some of them I will have to park until I have sufficient time for them. But a big dream I do have is to write a vegetarian cookbook. I always thought my first cookbook would be vegetarian, so now I have the opportunity, lets see if I can! I have very limited time for this and I might have to call on some of my friends and family to help me in the process, borrowing equipment, kitchens and the "willing" use of your taste buds and stomachs!

Today I actually need to do some test shots for my book proposal. Time wise I am on the wire, so I will finish up this blog to go and feed my camera and tummy!

However before I go as a reward for reading my blog today, I would like to share some photo's from the past couple of months. Firstly a Burlesque shoot, this is my gorgeous sister Marie whom was helping me out for an assignment. A few holiday snaps and a sneak peek from a wonderful wedding I shot last weekend. My next blog will be about the couple - Michael and Michelle from Perth, who chose to come to Hawke's Bay to get married!

Good old fashion film

The last couple of weeks have been a tad busy with work, birthdays (my son turned 9 earlier this month), studies, not a lot of sleep but still a whole lot of dreaming!

Last week saw me dust off the film camera for a school project.

Quite an exciting thing as it has been many years since I have shot film. I used Kodak Professional ISO400 film and here are some of the results. Apart from a wee crop on a couple of the shots, these are as they have been shot, no photoshop editing! I had to refrain from it, yes it was hard but I wanted this project to be a pure film result, I feel the images ooze Retro and that is what I wanted!

Any film buffs out there? Do you still shoot in film? There's something about the smell of film, I know those chemicals aren't the best. But it's rather nostalgic when I pop open a film canister.

I bought my first camera when I was 16 years old, it was a SLR Pentax. I learnt to photograph in film, those where some years ago now, but I remember taking this camera with me everywhere (apart from school). I used to document a lot of my teenage years. My pony, my family, boyfriends and the food I cooked at polytechnic. I don't think much has changed these days apart from the appendage is a more convenient digital SLR Canon and the documenting continues as I capture my children and clients memoirs.

Oh, and how many times do the young kiddies say after you have taken a digital image say "Can I see it?" as they race up to view the back of the camera. Quite the history lesson when you shoot in film and say, "Well actually no, you can't. There is no screen on this old thing, it's a film camera!"

Lets hope film never goes obsolete!

I was told by a friend travelling to France a couple of years ago, they shoot a lot of film over there. Hmmm, I have always wanted to go to France!

Anniversary trip to Auckland

So for awhile now, I have been wanting to write about my last trip to Auckland. My hubby and I celebrated our 10th year Wedding Anniversary late March, so to celebrate we headed off on a road tip for a couple of nights and a concert.

Our Friday "Anniversary" night was spent wondering around the CBD, checking out the night life and our celebration meal was at the fine Sharakau Japanese Restaurant on Queen Street. Paul indulged in a seafood sushi set and I a vegetarian bento box. Clearly my eye's were bigger than my stomach! But boy was it delicious. One thing we miss in the Bay is a Japanese Restaurant.

The Saturday we headed straight to the Domain, I did want to take Paul to the Mt Eden landmark as I enjoyed it so much at my last visit, but after spending most of the day at the domain and museum, we had to give that a miss. I bet even with a week in Auckland with all the sights, one still would not get to do everything. I look forward to when we take the kiddies up there.

These two top images were actually taken during my February Auckland visit. However it was late in the day and was closed as I walked through the Domain. This latest trip again we were blessed with fantastic weather.

The Charlton Light Machine Gun

Ok, there is oodles of history in the museum, so much to write about, but as I'm not a great writer, I wont go on too much.

One thing that took my eye was this gun. If you have not seen it before, this is a Charlton Rifle, it's a light machine gun designed and patented by an Englishman Mr Philip Charlton, living in New Zealand in 1941.

Around 1500-2000 were assembled by woman in the Charlton Motor Workshop in Hastings, New Zealand. It was built to fill a shortage of light machine guns at the time.

It was a fully automatic rifle made from redundant "Lee-Enfield" rifles from the Boer War. Designed to be used as a semi automatic rifle, however had the function to be used as a full auto should it have been needed. I'm loving the inventive and resourceful nature of Mr Charlton, however it saddens me as I think of it being used in war.

Unfortunately there are very few of the Charlton rifles left as most were burnt in an accidental fire in a Palmerston North armoury. Luckily for us there are a few survivors in museums in New Zealand and England.

Spit Fire

Apparently camera's aren't allowed in the winter garden. Oops, didn't read that sign until after we had been in.

So after several hours at the Museum if was time to leave to visit friends and get ready for the concert.

So after a wee rest from all our walking around the domain and museum, we headed out to visit friends Jacqui, Sean and their family. Jacqui has been an awesome online friend for many years and "when in Rome" as they say, it was time to meet in person. Awesome thing was Paul got on with Jacqui and her husband (I knew they would). Well to be honest my hubby gets on with most people, he's a fantastic conservationist! Thanks Jacqui, Sean and kiddies for a lovely hour or so, the historical and inspiration discussions we had!

Then it was onto the show, Blaqk Audio and Evanescence at the Vector Arena. What excitement, Paul could hardly hold me down as I screamed out and jumped franticly. Wow, finally after many years of being a fan of bands AFI and Blaqk Audio, I got to see Davey Havok and Jade Puget live. Sadly they only played for about 30 minutes and I wished I could have been there professionally photographing them with my DSLR camera. The mobile and pocket camera just didn't cut the mustard with Davey's energy as he danced and jumped around. Evanescence was awesome too, boy Amy can sing! The night raced on too quickly. And now a month later already it's like a distant memory.

After the show, Paul and I headed but into the CBD to find Davey! OK, not much luck there, but Davey did tweet me which was nice. A simple "thank you" reply to my tweet to him. Then we headed to a Ken Yakitori Bar for supper. That was delicious, we tried Ginkgo Nuts, quite different, but nice. A lovely way to end the night. A shame our departure out of Auckland wasn't so good.

Yep our car broke down. Not a nice feeling being strangled in a huge city on a Sunday. There were lots of "What if's" and "If only it broke down on Saturday". But life is life and we had to soldier on with a plan. After the roadside assistance couldn't help and our car was towed away to a secure lock up, my cousin and his family kindly offered their home and a bed. Thanks so much to Glen, Ashwin and Erika. You were awesome company and I hope we can return the favour in time. So after spending an extra night in the big smoke, the next day we pursued to get our car fixed. Ever thankful to a mobile mechanic and before we knew it we were on our way home.

A huge thanks to my supportive Mum and bonus Dad for taking extra special care of our kiddies and my bro for house minding while we were away! An awesome trip away experiencing new adventures and home is always great to come home to. Now it must be time to plan another holiday, this time with the kiddies.

ANZAC Day and a new find...

Firstly, Happy Anzac Day xxx Lest we forget.

I caught most of the live dawn parade at Auckland's War Memorial Museum on TV this morning as my hubby was at the Hastings Dawn Parade. Maybe next year when our children are a little older, we will all be able to go to. As I watched TV I was welling up inside. It is always moving to watch, but to actually participate a dawn parade must be something else. I will have to take many tissues!

I think it is awesome that the younger generations are embracing ANZAC, paying their respects and keeping it alive. It is nearly 100 years since World War One. My children will be nearly 12 and 8 years old then, it would be a worthy trip to Gallipoli if my hubby and I can save enough for it.

On another note, this morning I also discovered an online trading site Art Fire, it's an international site and full of really cool creative sellers. Well it didn't take me long to find the cool vintage things and I bought a book that's 73 years old. More on that when it arrives in the mail. It might feature in a photo or two in time.

I'm not sure if I will set up a selling page there, perhaps when my book is published ;)

Well I better go and socialise on this beautiful fine day. I hope you all have a great day remembering those amazing men and women who fought for us, the animals they took with them to assist and those who lost their lives, so that we could have freedom.

Take your time, observe and record.
A picture needs to speak to the observer, capture the emotional.
The world is your canvas. Start with your little corner of the world first.

Explore the unknown to keep the fire alive.
The camera is not only your eyes, it is the paint and the picture is your voice.
Rules are like tools, and tools can be broken. But if you break them without reason or thought, then you are best to throw them out.

Time

Well, today is my 10th year Wedding Anniversary, so Hubby and I had to stop off the see the church where our beautiful ceremony was held.

Well 10yrs on, it is standing proud as ever. We have since our big day there, attended many weddings and I have photographed many two. Each time with tears of joy in my eyes.

So, to family and friends that have shared our day and been in our lives since, Thank you for being here. Here's to another 10 years xxxxxxxxxx

Versatile Jasmine

Hi everyone, I am so sorry for I have not blogged for a few weeks. I have been a wee busy with family, work, study, more work and business building and of course play time in the big smoke of Auckland. Special thanks to couples that have booked weddings with me, I feel so honoured! Next weekend I be photographing Simon and Megan's wedding, I'm so looking forward to capturing their special day.

Recently I had two portrait sessions with two very athletic beauties. Jasmine came to me to help build her portfolio, which I was honoured to do. It was a fun session with many quick changes, we shot 7 different outfits and I'm so pleased with the results. For her first photo shoot, Jasmine did not show any nerves and was very confident in front of a camera. Thanks to Jasmine and her friend Fleur for being there to help out and support Jasmine through this experience.

Secondly was Cherry Boomb, I hadn't worked with Cherry before. We had been trying to tee up a session for awhile. Cherry is a treat to work with, her suitcase of clothing and accessories was bottomless! Cherry has an alternative edge and yet she is still very versatile to deliver any look from contemporary, burlesque, conservative to steampunk and more .

So I now have many images to help build my own portfolio. Which is thankfully growing fast and with each shoot I do I feel my skills are growing as I explore new techniques. With digital files and photoshop I tend to push an image as far as I can take it. The in camera image often doesn't need touching up, if I have the studio lighting set up right! Studio lighting sculpts beautifully. However I thought I would show the progression in images below of Steampunk Cherry.

Image on the left is as shot. Image on right is with tones and exposure adjusted, fill light increased, saturated and vibrancy increased slightly. I also added a skin softening effect, which is a pre set I have made to blur the skin slightly. I love this finished image, especially how it has a metallic satin glow. But even still I wanted a bit of an aged effect.

So I added an old paper effect (ok this is a filter effect), quite mechanical really and it's an effect that I am yet to teach myself. Plus so dark vignetting to draw you in more.

WOW is all what is on my mind right now. Sue is an amazing photographer and so pleased that she is sharing her skills and advice this way.

From what I am learning from Sue so far is that I am on the right track re my eye lines, which is great! But also learning amazing posing tips to accentuate the beauty of the human form. And trusting my intuition which is something you can not buy, it's something that comes with experience.

So I will leave you all now and hope you are enjoying the weekend. The weather bomb has past the Hawke's Bay and sun is kind of out again, though not sure for how long. I hope that where ever you are that the weather has been kind to you and your love ones. I'm hoping to get out later to get some more landscape images for an assignment.

Time for a new hobby or perfect an old one?

I have never been much of a sewer. Always had sewing disasters; breaking needles, loosing patience, blowing up machines. All which is rather sad considering my Mum is an ace at it. My Mum mostly, but also with my Aunty, Nana and my eldest Sister helping made my gorgeous wedding outfit. A four piece golden satin and silk number. I'm feeling nostalgic as it was nearly 10 years ago, so I must post some wedding pic's. Photography by Mark at Joshua Corporation, March 2002.

If only sewing was a talent you instantly inherit. But you know what I would take up sewing if I had this gorgeous machine like the new limited edition 160 Singer. But I could also do with a new camera equipment as well.

Knitting, on the other hand was something that did gel when I was younger. I managed to knit myself a cabled cricket jersey, crochet pillow covers and blankets. Fairly basic things, but still fun. Though of lately with working, young children, writing, internet and blogging zapping my time, I haven't knitted since my children were little and I wonder if I would still remember how to cast on?

Crafts such as these are such a precious thing, often taught by Mums and Grandmothers. Have you thought about this too in the past? I'm feeling the need to get back to my roots and brush up on some skills so I can pass them onto my children and their children.

To my Daughter Amber..."I will make your cake and decorate it, but just please don't ask me to make your wedding gown!"

Day 34-366

A tribute to the 1931 Hawke's Bay Earthquake

Hastings City Centre 3rd February 2012

Today, 81 years ago at 10.47am a 2 & a 1/2 minute 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Hawke's Bay. The earthquake and fires to follow without remorse took the lives of 256 people, with thousands injured. Hastings and Napier cities were hit the most, both cities were almost levelled.

There is so much more to tell about this earthquake, many of you know so much already. My Nana has shared her tragic memories with me of the quake, to endure such a thing as a young school child would have been horrific.

Today in the centre of Hastings City there was a tribute, I was unable to attend due to work commitments, however upon taking my son into town after school we were able to site the tribute "HB Tribune Ltd" papers hanging up. Lovely to see and read some pages quickly. I will go back to read some more.

I hope to photograph some more of Hawke's Bays building's too over the next year, Art Deco and Spanish Mission architecture is a love of mine. With being a born and breed Hastings girl, there is plenty of it here to amuse me, thanks to the rebuild.

Sadly earthquakes are much to common in New Zealand and in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Often I wonder why we live here, yes it's a beautiful to be and we are very lucky to be here. But we can't live in fear.

Years pass, People grow stronger cities rebuild, some a little faster than others. I constantly think of Christchurch and my friends there. Those Southerners are a hardy lot and I wish them much love and support! I wonder what Christchurch architecture will be like when they are able to rebuild. Will it be a themed style, eco friendly, Advant Guarde or plain Jane Modern and up most safe?

Shoe's

Day 21-366 Red Shoes

Oh gosh, it has been a week since I have blogged. It has been a busy week of looking after my sick hubby, birthday's, organising my son's holiday social life, work and play. Please forgive me my kind readers.

I am not a huge shoe fan, I don't have a fetish and a closet full of shoes. Personally I would rather buy a few really good quality shoes that are guaranteed to last a number of years, like my Doc Martens boots that I bought in pre veg days. I guess what my Mum said many years ago has stuck "You wont get rich by buying shoes all the time".

I have been a vegetarian off and on for the past 12 years. For the past four years I have been a full vegetarian and will not buy leather or animal based shoes (including the glue). How is this story vintage you might be asking. Here I go again gambling on. But this afternoon I was wondering what to shoot for my vintage inspired photo a day project. When I stumbled onto a Vegan Friendly Store website that sells shoes, not just any shoes though, these are vintage inspired and gorgeous! Here's the link: Vegan vintage inspired woman's shoes. I love the Brogues and T Bars. There are Men's shoes also. Please have a look, the store is in Victoria, Australia, so maybe some day I will get to visit them. But the postage costs shouldn't rock the boat too much either when I do decide to buy a pair. Might need to start saving!

So my photo today is a pair of vintage styled shoes (man made materials too thankfully, although I am dubious about the glue used) I bought for an Art Deco outing. Cost me $12 at the Salvation Store and they were particularly brand new! Unfortunately these are a mere prop now as the metal stopper bit (or whatever it's called) fell off one of the heals, so one day I should investigate if it can be fixed.

Silvo and Supper Time

Day 12-366 Silvo and Supper Time

Tonight I thought I would polish! Silvo to me, well it's the bee's knees! Years ago, on a quest to be thrifty, I used to make my own polishing mix up with a concoction of stuff like baking soda, vinegar and toothpaste. OK, why did I bother? I used to have put in so much elbow grease to get anywhere and then the finish polish was never as good as Silvo's. Silvo has a protection factor also to slow down the chemical reaction resulting in tarnishing. The tarnishing will occur eventually, but it is slowed down with this polish.

It saves time too especially when there's tea and cake to be had!

Day 10-366

I feel it's time to introduce myself somewhat more.

A 38 year old mum of two gorgeous funtastic future adults.

Married to an extraordinary man and dad who loves history,

building things and is a talented artist!

I work with food during the day and with my camera as a part time portrait and wedding photographer

whenever I'm given the opportunity.

I am studying to be a better photographer and doing a vintage 366 photo project too.

We have 3 vintage tabby cats, a cute fat dog, 3 old almost non laying chooks (dare I say it, you know what that means), a shy cockatiel and some tropical fishes.

Vintage memorabilia is a passion of mine, I collect things.

I collect way too many things!

Day 9-366 Finders Keepers

Wow I have may it past my first week of this blog. That makes me so excited, so excited that I may not sleep tonight. No really, it is cool and thanks to my followers. I can say at this stage I know each one of you personally or through our photographic connections and that makes me even more excited and humble that you wish to keep up with my rambling.

I saw this van in town today, I was impressed with it's sign writing. Doesn't it stand out well? It made everyone's heads turn including mine. I hope it's owner doesn't mind me doing some free advertising for them ;). They have a website: finderskeepers.co.nz/

Well, there's something to be said for second hand goods, we either love of hate them. I love them mostly. I especially love how someone else's used goods can make someone else smile, give them a simple pleasure (as long as it doesn't cost the earth!).

One man's junk is another man's treasure!

Tonight a friend posted this on her facebook status... so I will leave you with this to ponder over (sorry it is long)

Anyone age approx 35 or over should read this - copied from a friend ... Checking out at the supermarket recently, the young cashier suggested I should bring my own bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. I apologised and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days". the cler...k responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations". She was right about one thing--our generation didn't have the green thing in “Our” day. So what did we have back then?After some reflection and soul-searching on "Our" day here's what I remembered we did have.... Back then, we returned milk bottles, pop bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles repeatedly. So they really were recycled. But we didn't have the green thing back in our day. We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day. Back then, we washed the baby's nappies because we didn't have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 240 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right. We didn't have the green thing back in our day. Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of Wales. In the kitchen, we blended & stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn petrol just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right. We didn't have the green thing back then. We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the green thing back then. Back then, people took the bus, and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their mums into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint. But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we older folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then?Please post this on your Facebook profile so another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smarty-pants!

Today is day eight of my 366 Vintage inspired photo a day challenge. And above is my photo of the day. I spent he afternoon being industrialised in my kitchen, something I have wanted to do all holidays. Back to work for me tomorrow and I thought I would do some weekly baking, ha, not sure if the baking will last all week!

I made Lemon curd for the first time, invented a new recipe even (more like totally hashed up the recipe I was using and had to remedy it!). Well I think it turned out all good in the end.

Tonight I'm watching TV, something I haven't done a lot of lately. Watched "Under the Mountain", absolutely loved it and at the moment watching a very fitting movie "Julie and Julia", so I will leave you now.

Happy 65th Birthday Dad and Happy 100th Birthday to Mr Charles Addams

My Dad turns 65 today, another huge milestone for him. So Happy Birthday to my Dad. I might class you as "Vintage" now, hehehe.

Sadly, Charles Addams passed away in 1988, but his macabre humour for life and his cartoons will live on for a very long time. Thanks for Google for making their search logo in his honour today, otherwise I would not have know that he shared his birthday with my special Dad too and chosen to learn more about him today.

Charles Addams late wife Tee set up a foundation in their honour called Tee & Charles Addams Foundation: http://www.charlesaddams.com Their is some history about them on the website. Tee sounded like she was a gorgeous caring lady. Charles was married twice before (well according to Wikipedia) and he thought that one of his previous wives wanted to kill him (may have had some truth in it or maybe he thought up the story as an excuse to divorce her?)

Either way the universe put Marilyn "Tee" Matthews together in the end). Tee was a model and had a huge passion for animals and their welfare. They were married in a pet cemetery, in the 80's they moved to a new property and named it "The Swamp" and after Charles passed on his ashes were laid to rest in the pet cemetery on their property.

Over his lifetime Charles drew more than 1300 cartoons and drawings and a huge inspiration for many artist to follow!

Funny for us but also sad was that he didn't like children and this shows in his "Addams Family" cartoons in a way. But he also had a soft spot for animals like his wife. He sounded like quite the character himself and no doubt his inspiration for his artwork was drawn in from those in his life or once in his life.

My children haven't been introduced to "The Addams Family" as yet, I just might need to see if the series is on DVD sometime. They will love it as I did when I was young. Luckily my children have the same taste for ghoulish dark humour as I do.

Producing a book on a low budget

I think I am getting the hang of this blog thing. Special thanks to my members and follows so far.
On this journey to write and publish a book, it has opened my eyes to many exciting questions. Like,

Will people actually be interested in this book?
How do I connect with my target market?
At what point do I tell the world what the book is all about?
How do I fund it?
When will I find the time to do it?
Do I do it alone? Self publish or publisher? Do I seek sponsorship?

Definitely the key thing to start with is the funding. So this is where I need you help. If you know of any

applicable affiliate plans that I can sign up to or companies I can offer advertising to on this blog that will be ever useful.

I know this blog is very young and not many companies will see the point with adverting with me, but a girl has to start somewhere. Also if you wouldn't mind sharing my blog with you family and friends that have a liking for vintage that I would also appreciate.

Found this lovely business recently: New Bohemian It's a New Zealand Vintage Clothing and Homewares Store. Worth a look.

I'm off to the library and perhaps drag the kiddies off to another op shop, I will leave you with a pic I took yesterday of the Poukawa Church, Hawke's Bay.

Photo a Day Challenge

Well, I am really hanging myself on the hook of "One who refuses to know her limits".

I had been thinking for a few days that I should start a photo a day challenge. I tried to talk myself out of it, knowing I could not complete the one I started last year. But now with a cell phone with a camera and my Canon never far away, how hard will it be? (easy peasy!)

Memoirs

A new years resolution, to write a new blog? yes. I have started blogs before and abandoned them to rot in cyber land. Well this new blog will be different from the rest, whether read by an audience or just a place for me to keep my memoirs. I aim to keep it going.

I am a picture maker, a freelance photographer, a product developer and an ex professional chef. My history qualifications stop at high school history and art history however, but anything vintage makes me tick. You will find me polishing silver, window shopping antique stores and fine combing TradeMe, EBay and op shops any moment I can for that special something.

This year I am fulfilling a long term dream of mine to write a vintage photographic book in my spare time, so I will be on the look out for models and many props to loan. From time to time I will put requests on my facebook page.

So join me on a journey into the past if you want. I have a nice old chair saved just for you and some treats!
