I've gotta say sorry for being slack again.. sorry. Life has been a little insane with troubles and goodness in equal measure. All gone a bit mad. So here's a little barrage of new music for you....

All funky, all well worth checking out.

John Williams Vs John Bonham - Imperial March - Skeewiff's Joined the Dark Side Remix

PS I know a few folks have emailed me music to listen to over the last few weeks and I've not replied or posted about any of that yet. I'm not ignoring you, it's just been mental what with the PC dying and then a whole shit ton of other issues. I'll get caught up soon.

An Underworld classic reimagined

2013-06-25T19:24:00.002+01:00

Leygo is always good value for a remix. Here we have a beast of a reworking with the joys of Underworld's utter classic, Born Slippy...

Born Slippy - Leygo re-rub

Free download too.

A collection of Basterds

2013-06-24T19:16:00.000+01:00

If you don't have Grindhouse Basterds by Wick-it the Instigator, well... you should change that now. Firstly it's free, secondly it's quality, funky and will deliver a laugh or two and thirdly it's a Quentin Tarantino inspired collection of remixes and seriously good shit.

Street Life (feat. Future)

You can download it from here.

Pressing pause

2013-06-05T20:55:00.002+01:00

Unfortunately my home PC has died a foul death. New one is on order and should be here in a week. Tune posting will resume as soon as I am not having to use my sodding phone to write this :P

We can't be divided

2013-06-03T10:00:00.000+01:00

Seemed an appropriate title with so much of what's going on in the world lately. Anyways, music...

Now this man has some funky soul goodness going on, Willie Wright. He released a couple (that I know about anyway) of albums in the '70s and is probably best known for his cover of Curtis Mayfield's Right On For the Darkness.

Right On For the Darkness

I'm So Happy Now

Turns out though that Willie has recorded another album, his first for 34 years, just recently. For more info and to have a listen, check out his website on myspace.

Tune of the week

2013-05-30T17:56:00.002+01:00

Tune I've been listening to the most this week is this Jimi Needle's edit of Tightrope by Janelle Monae. I like both, but actually I much prefer this to the original.

Tightrope (Jimi Needles Grand Popo Edit)

In case you somehow missed the original...

Tightrope

A selection

2013-05-23T01:15:00.000+01:00

A mixture of audio pleasure for you good people today.

First off we have OOAH & Kitty-D with a mix of their musical adventures in 2007. Scientific sound surgery they've described it as... A fitting term. They've made it available as a free download too.

The Seedling Escape Mix (2007)

Next up we have Daisuke Tanabe and a tune I've posted before. It was in my head and not enough people have heard this before, so I'm posting again. I'm not entirely sure what genre he fits in, alternative-techno-breakbeat-thing, but I know it works.

Artificial Sweetener

Finally a funk classic by legendary British funk band, Cymande. If you've not heard Cymande before you will almost certainly have heard them sampled. If you don't own any... well, you should consider changing that. ;) From 1972 this is Brothers On The Slide.

Brothers On The Slide

Higher Ground

2013-05-22T17:23:00.003+01:00

Just a quick fly by post today, more fleshed out stuff in the pipeline though ;) However, that doesn't mean today's tune can't be a good one...

Stevie Wonder - Higher Ground (scratchandsniff' re-rub)

En Route

2013-05-21T13:45:00.000+01:00

You may recall I've posted about Caroline Lacaze before. This was back when I first heard L'etrange and it proceeded to melt my brain with dirty funk beats and Caroline's sublime vocals.

L'etrange

The album "En Route" has been out for a few months now and I've gotta say, daaaaaaaaaamn. This is some seriously fine funky and soulful work. Whilst all within the funk/soul remit, the tracks are quite varied yet maintaining what for me is quite a summery sound. Perfect for sitting outside in the sunshine at some city cafe watching the world go by. That said, with tunes like En Route Madam and Harley Davidson this is also very much tail-feather shaking dancing music ;) I know a few of my mates who will be working tunes from this album into their sets.

It's out on vinyl from Mocambo Records or Legere Recordings for CD & downloads. I'm not on a commission btw :P It's just good and highly recommended.

Oh and Roadstop makes me laugh every time :D

RIP Ray Manzarek

2013-05-20T23:08:00.002+01:00

Ray Manzarek keyboard player for the Doors has died :( Like so many people The Doors were a huge influence on me when I was young and finding my way with music, women, the world and everything.

Whilst it's Jim Morrison's image that defines our mental picture of The Doors, it's Ray Manzarek's music providing the soundtrack.

Jazz legend

2013-05-19T12:04:00.002+01:00

Joe Williams first blessed the world with his jazzy vocal delights in about 1939 singing in Chicago. From there his it was all up, with a steady climb to the very top of the jazz scene and a career that lasted all the way to his death in 1999. Recognised as one of the all time great jazz singers, Joe Williams achieved it all, from a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, to pretty much owning the Monterey Jazz Festival for like foreeeeeeeeever, singing with every jazz icon worth mentioning, performing in Carnegie Hall, to appearing as Grandpa Al in the Cosby Show.

This here is Joe Williams and the Jazz Orchestra in 1968 doing a cover of my all time favourite tunes, Get Out Of My Life woman by Lee Dorsey.

Get Out Of My Life Woman

Was slack this week...

2013-05-18T23:56:00.004+01:00

...so to make up for it here's an hour of awesome from Daytoner... free download and of oh so much goodness.

A selection of the finest Hip Hop...

2013-05-13T21:10:00.002+01:00

...from my younger days... Maybe it's rose tinted glasses, but I'd say this lot comes from the golden years for the whole scene. I could post so many tunes here, Public Enemy, KRS One and so on immediately spring to mind, but this post was looking huge as I started thinking of tracks, so you're getting a slightly random selection.

Big Daddy Kane, you just can't go wrong. This track is from It's a Big Daddy Thing, an album you should purchase immediately. I remember skating with this in my Walkman for like forever, ahh memories ;)

Calling Mr. Welfare

Gang Starr... How to state just how important these guys were? Lyrically stunning and intelligent, delivered by the Guru's voice with it's rich tone and Premier's selection of jazzy beats remains, for me, the ultimate... One of the most poignant tracks from Step In The Arena, another essential album to own, this is Just To Get A Rep.

Just To Get A Rep

Young MC, regularly appearing in mixes all over the world right now... Timeless and funky as fuck. From the Stone Cold Rhymin' album this is....

Bust A Move

British hiphop doesn't tend to have the recognition of the horde of music the US produces, but there was (and still is) quality to be found. Caveman were probably the most acclaimed back in the day and had success both sides of the pond. This is taken from Positive Reaction.

I'm Ready

And finally another track from the UK, the title track from Overlord X's debut album.

Weapon Is My Lyric

Perfect

2013-05-09T19:22:00.002+01:00

The Allergies and the mighty DJ Moneyshot are regularly coming in my ears. Smut intended, obviously. And this latest track... oh yeah, funky beats of BOOOOOM!

Classic drum break, sublime choice of samples, horns and more, all blended to be just.... Perfect eargasmic love funk.

You Wouldn't Know

You can buy it here.

Check out the EP here:

I like my tea in many flavours and this ticks the floaty musical bubbles box... so yeah works for me ;) Personal fave track would be this one:

Dirty Little Secret

Also it's well worth having a butchers at the Diamond & Raw website, for more info, loads more music to listen to and a few free downloads too.

Less funk, more beef

2013-05-01T10:00:00.000+01:00

OK something a wee bit different today. A couple of my mates are in a band by the name of Sada. The tunes they put out are of the stoner-metal variety and fine quality too. They got signed recently and their debut album (ALL HAIL THE BEEFLORDS) is released 1st June this year. So if you like your music with extra beef, try the lads out.

These are old vids from before getting signed.

Bonetree

Also it must be said that their cover of Cliff Richard's Devil Woman is inspired.

Devil Woman

You can also listen to more tracks and also preorder the album (CD or download, plus you get 3 downloads straight away) from the following link: http://stargunmusic.bandcamp.com/releases

Oh and Bride of Cuntenstein is an the best name of any track ever, particularly if you know who it is about ;)
