OK everybody have you read all the news lately about EBay? I have and here is the latest, EBay Inc.'s PayPal is cutting as many as 400 jobs, or about 3 percent of the workforce! Oh my, maybe it is because they SUCK! At least in my experience as a seller. I am now using sell pin

Gardening Tips

In many areas of around America, gardeners are eagerly transplanting seedlings from the flats they purchased at retail into their home gardens. This all sounds pretty simple but there are a few pointers from the experts that we'll share here to ensure your gardening success. Part of that success entails avoiding transplant shock, providing the right kind of fertilization, and having irrigation set up so you can water from Day 1.
A few key tips from National Garden Bureau and our members:
First is the transplanting date. Do not attempt to transplant annuals before the soil has warmed up enough to not inhibit growth. Also it's important to pay attention to last frost-free dates for your area. This Last Spring Frost Date Map from Botanical Interests will help.
Transplant when your plants are the appropriate size. While in the garden center, check to see if the plant has developed enough of a root system so they come out of the flat, but yet, before the plant gets too big and rootbound in the cell.
Water plants thoroughly (preferably from the bottom) before undertaking your tranplanting. Also, keep the plants in the shade until you need them.
Cloudy, calm days are preferable to sunny, windy days. More tips can be found on various plant types on the NGB Fact Sheets.
Make planting holes, drop in the seedlings, and cover them up as quickly as possible to minimize the time the roots are exposed to air. The general rule is to set the plants at the same depth they were growing in the original container. If your plants were grown in peat pots, be sure the top rim of the pot is covered with soil to prevent the pot from wicking water away from the roots. For some exceptions to this rule, read tips from Johnny's Selected Seeds here.
Water the plants as soon as possible. Even if the soil is moist, transplants should still be watered in to settle them into their holes and increase the root-to-soil contact.
Add a dilute water-soluble fertilizer (good fertilizer tips here from Veseys Seed) to the watering-in solution.

It's been 5 month's since my Mom passed away

It has been 5 months since my wonderful Mom passed away from Alzheimer’s. She was only 78 when she left this world. I still miss my Mom as much today, as the day she died. I still have my moments of crying, because we were so close. I talked to her every day, before she got to sick and had to be admitted to the hospital. I last saw my dear Mother in February 2009 until March 2009. What a wonderful visit we had, I took a video of her and my brother, I will cherish that clip of us forever. My sister-in-law and I fussed over her those 12 days, we laughed, we played games, one day we even dressed her up as a cowgirl .I have really tried to get on with things, but it is when I am here that I feel such an overwhelming sense of loss. I wake up every day with her on my mind. I didn’t have opportunity to say goodbye to her because I'm in the Chicago land area and she was in Texas although I did say goodby on the phone to her. I have some of her ashes and a clip of her hair. She taught me so much in the time I had with her; like how to balance a check book, how to Bake a cake and all her great recipes for making a family meal ,she made me who I am. My heart still hurts for her.

None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and none is so poor but that he can be made rich by giving it.
A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business,and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged ,sunshine to the sad and it is natures best antidote for trouble. Yet it can't be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away.
Some people are to tired to give you a smile, so give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has none to give.

Difficult Days

My mother, Penny, passed away on Sept. 16, 2009 of dementia. I am happy she was at Hospice. They are wonderful people.It’s been difficult to write more than a few lines without breaking down.Plus, it is not easy writing about a remarkable woman.My family wasn’t wealthy, but we wanted for nothing.She modestly and unsparingly gave of herself though her time,her hard work and her words of encouragement.Mom spent 47 years devoted to my father in marriage.My Parents loved to go out and go dancing,especially when Saturday Night Fever came out in 1977. My Mom was one of those 1950's sitcom moms. She taught me to write thank you letters, she shopped, she was a awesome cook and raised 3 children.Mom didn't return to work until I was in 1st grade ( I was the youngest of the 3).When I was 9 my Grandmother (Nana) moved in with us. Nana was my Mom's Mother, so I was lucky to have had that time with the both of them. It was like having 2 Mothers,wow was I lucky. All my friends liked coming to our house ,something was always baking in the oven.I can remember my Nana having home baked chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate on a cold winter day. But back to my Mom, she could bake seventeen kinds of cookies ,grow vegetables in her garden,be a loving wife, a wise and gentle mother, and successful business woman . But those days are gone, but not forgotten.

My honey bunny is getting me a kitten this afternoon, I am so very excited. We have done our research on several cats. We are going with a gray domestic cat.She is 8 weeks old, and purrs a lot.I plan on having her to be an inside cat.I am going to make life inside fun --with toys, playtime , a window to look out of, a homemade scratching post, and a few twigs of catnip in a homemade sock.I will post a picture and video's of Sookie the wonder kitten later this week.

Up to 25% of a home's energy usage can come from a dryer alone. My mom used to always line-dry clothes in our backyard when we were growing up. I didn't realize that not everybody everywhere could just do that. But some people do feel it can be unsightly and, I guess, detract from everyone's enjoyment of the outside area.But not in the Valley of Oz. This is my Honny Bunny,line drying our wash.

Not only does it save us money on our Electric bill, but it saves the dryer.And it's also a "green" thing.So exercise your right to dry.

Speaking of Blood Oranges

In the kingdom of citrus, blood oranges are royalty. You know that every bite is an explosion of sweet, deep orange flavor, with hints of raspberry.
Blood Orange Roast Pork Loin
3 blood oranges
1 3-pound boneless pork loin, rolled and tied [2 lb]
3 TB extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1 large onion, cut into 8 wedges
2 fresh rosemary sprigs, leaves stripped from stems [1], plus additional for garnish
1/2 cup dry white wine [6 TB]
1/2 cup low-salt chicken broth [6TB]
1 large garlic clove, pressed
Blood orange slices
Place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 450 degrees.
With a paring knife or vegetable peeler, remove strips of peel from the oranges and place the peels in a small bowl. Add the cut up onion or shallot, the rosemary leaves and 2 teaspoons of the olive oil. Toss well.
Place the pork in a roasting pan and rub with the remaining olive oil. Season to taste with salt and pepper, seasoning well. Scatter the contents of the bowl around the pork and roast for 25 minutes, until the onions/shallots are browning.
Meanwhile, juice the oranges, squeezing out 3/4 cup [1/2 cup]. If short, make up the difference with regular orange juice. Add the juice to a small saucepan, along with the wine, chicken broth and garlic. Bring to a boil and let boil until reduced by about 25%, seven minutes or so.
When the pork has roasted for 25 minutes, remove from the oven, lower the temperature to 350 degrees, and add about 3/4 of the liquid mixture to the roasting pan. Reserve the remainder.
Baste the pork with the pan drippings and liquid. Return to the oven, basting frequently, until the internal temperature at the thickest point is 150 degrees. Begin to check after 30 minutes. [My very thick pork needed a total of 60 minutes at 350]
Move the pork to a serving platter and cover loosely with foil to tent. Add the reserved liquid to the roasting pan, scraping up any fond. Bring this sauce to a boil and let boil until slightly thickened, 3 -5 minutes.
If a rolled roast, cut the string. Slice the pork into serving sizes and drizzle with the sauce. Garnish with orange slices and rosemary.
Serves 6,bon appetit !

It is hard to believe that it is August 2, 2009 and here in the Land of Oz the temperature is 59 degrees...Oh well...It's that time again,off to delivery the Sunday newspaper to the residents of this village in the land of Oz. Another day another $51.00, that would be 300 Sunday newspapers at .17 cents per paper,wow.Well it is Sunday after all so I'll be making a pork roast for dinner tonight with all the fixings. I got my first tomato yesterday.Yeah !!!This is a picture of it 2 days before I picked it.This year I pinched and removed the suckers that developed in the crotch joint of two branches. They won’t bear fruit and will take energy away from the rest of the plant. But go easy on pruning the rest of the plant. You can thin leaves to allow the sun to reach the ripening fruit. Happy gardening ^-_-^
