pantoum

dear D.C.I. ...

I leave for you this brief pantoum

my hope that you will clearly know

beyond the horrors of this room

this masterpiece has far to go

my hope that you will clearly know

between the cracks, behind the lines

this masterpiece has far to go

fulfilling all the foretold signs

between the cracks, behind the lines

I chose my anonymity

fulfilling all the foretold signs

look close and tell me what you see

I chose my anonymity

these things of mine, I did with grace

look close and tell me what you see

I wish you recognised my face

these things of mine, I did with grace

regard my art, how I prepared

I wish you recognised my face

I did it all because I cared

regard my art, how I prepared

a shadow in this evening land

I did all this because I cared

I trust that you will understand

a shadow in this evening land

beyond the horrors of this room

I trust that you will understand

I leave with you this brief pantoum

villanelle

the score

something is moving slowly through my heart

that turns my blood-paced magma fire to ice,

is this the way you wanted us to part?

I wanted to possess you, from the start

I thought you were worth any asking price;

something is moving slowly through my heart

conformity soon holed me with his dart,

but aimed at you he had to loose off twice;

is this the way you wanted us to part?

I made control a matter of fine art,

yet never acted harsh or less than nice;

something is moving slowly through my heart

we are God's sweetness or the Devil's tart;

we are the score from endless throws of dice;

is this the way you wanted us to part?

and so my love my pulse slides off the chart,

that dagger seen before you should suffice,

something is moving slowly through my heart,

is this the way you wanted us to part?
