the "labor card" comment is a joke. There is no "discrimination" in a public works job. The payment of Davis-Bacon wages means that singatory contractors who are used to competing even when paying union wages will no longer have that competitive disadvantage because the wages are fixed to the prevailing rate. The anti-union contractors are ticked off because they can't undercut the competition just by paying crappier wages. I will tell you that every non-union worker is looking forward to the Courthouse and the previaliing rates that are paid, especially the non-union workers who typically get no health care benefits or retirement pay for breaking their backs.

Meeting Carl for the first time the other night made me realize District 5 has a most dishonest and self promoting person supposedly representing this district. When asked if he had made the statement "California High Speed Rail is coming down the I-15 over my dead body!" he owned the statement and in addition endorsed the nightmare we face everyday as they widen the I-15 to who knows how many lanes in each direction. Guess he doesn't want his Scripps Ranch property value to fall while he is denying San Diegans the right to get out of their cars when traveling to Los Angeles.

If you're going to smear someone, at least be honest and admit it's because you don't like their politics. Making up excuses just costs the SDDC credibility

Given the closeness of Dem and GOP registration, and Lorie Zapf's low level of name ID, this might work out for Hadley.

I think Steve Francis is more than a little sketchy but if his endorsement gives a Dem the ability to rip votes away from Zapf then I'm all for it.

Plus D6 Dems tend to be more conservative (possibly Catholic) than the progressive Dems in D2 or elsewhere.

You should read her 460 forms. All four of them-Senate 2012, Board of Equalization 2010, and her 76th Assembly Committees.

I think these allies she has and her strength as a candidate can be observed by her fundraising. You might even need to adjust your blog.....You should write that she is practically elected (sardonic phrase-in case you were wondering).

I think it might suite her better to run for Donna Frye's council seat were she is needed...

Maybe on Saldana. Remember her recent performance on the State Budget: In the media, she only presented her personal low-priority bills and then parroted the budget line of the State Dem Party.

First they tried to "Kick the Can" into a different election cycle. Then they used the "Defenders of the Alamo" approach by pretending to be protecting the poor. Some of their proposed solutions were viable and reasonable; others were totally infeasible. Yes, the State GOPs were impossible! But the State Dems, including Saldana, bear a major responsibility for the crisis.

Maybe Saldana did something independent or creative to help the budget mess; but such actions, if any, were invisible.

Now Saldana is trying to polish her image by pretending that: (1) she was just a bystander to the State budget mess, and (2) that she really worked to protect the poor, and (3) she was busy working on other non-budget issues. She doesn't even the acknowledge the inconsistency of those three images. She should at least pick one of those false images and be consistent.

I'm sorry, did you think that the dems over the past decade have made good policy? A decade and a half of liberal spending policy at the hands of a dem governor, a rep governor, and a dem legislature has resulted in a literal implosion of state government. It has gotten to the point where it affects the everyday quality of life in California. And you're answer is to give dems complete carte blanche?

The time comes when one has to pay the piper; and it has to come from somewhere. Obviously California's new aristocracy, the labor elite otherwise known as public employees, are untouchable. And the citizens of CA won't stand for more taxation, so extreme cuts need to be made and new revenue sources utilized.

Its too bad you're little west coast haven where every dem constituency gets everything they want wasn't tenable. Another welfare state bites the dust...
