The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)'s letter to local Internet Sensorship Providers was leaked revealing that it has ordered all ISPs to block well Malaysian visited file sharing sites.

The move is said to be caused by the huge use of such sites to illegally download copyrighted material over the internet.

Malaysian netizens have vented their unhapiness over the internet by creating a Facebook group condemning such move. At time of this post, 8,300 have chosen to 'LIKE' the group.

I bet many are trying to compare and contrast among the 3 main telco's in Malaysia now selling the iPhone package. Well, look no further because I have taken the liberty of comparing the lowest packages available by all 3 telco's for you. Check out the schedule below for the comparison:

From the looks of it, Celcom seems to be offering the better package. However, it remains a huge mystery when I made this comparison of what happens if you do exceed the 2GB data usage provided. Also, Celcom benefits from lower charges for the 16GB iPhone 4 regardless of package, but I'd be extra careful on the monthly charges of RM98 which is a lot more expensive. in additional to that, there has been rumors of Celcom's worsening service in both voice and data although no proof can be provided to date.

Regardless of that, Celcom now leads the race for 'the cheapest iPhone package', and with the iPhone 5 rumored to be released soon, the race to win the smartphone market in Malaysia just got very interesting.

From what I can see, you are paying an extra of RM250 for the cool palm technology produced by Asus. While I was impressed by the cool palm technology, I felt that it didn't serve its purpose as the problem of of heated palm occurred after a few hours of use although the keyboard area remained cool if compare to the Acer Aspire 4750G. This fact must be taken info consideration as you are paying extra for this technology.

On the other hand, Acer is well regarded as an unreliable brand, but I this fact I believe this is based on luck. If you want a cheaper laptop, Acer is the best choice, but in terms of reliability and extra cost, Asus it is.

MY REVIEW

For the price,the Acer Aspire 4750G seems to be overly value for money. It has a wonderful sharp yet thin design, and boast of the 2nd generation Intel i5 processor. There are 4 USB ports which are close to each other (not something I like), and the 4G RAM is adequate enough to use. The only problem with this laptop is the heat it produces at the palm of your hands while using the keyboard. This disadvantage will make your palms sweaty after long periods on the laptop, but it can be easily ignored if you only plan to use the laptop for less than 2 hours. Apart from that, the battery life is said to be extended to a great 10 hours.

The Desire S Review

Read on Engadet that they reviewed the Desire S, which is HTC's latest smartphone model slated to replace the Desire (I wonder what happened to Desire 2?). Anyway, the phone looks amazing with it's aluminum body, and Engadget said that this phone is much better than the original Desire and is just so good esspecially with it's improved camera and battery life. The question now is when this beauty would be available in Malaysia? Well, thanks Engadget, you just made me feel like I should now change my phone this year, and I just thought of getting a retractable car charger for HTC Desire which would leave my worries of low battery life away.

Celcom iPhone 4 Package

Celcom Biz plan starts at RM98 with 2GB data

While most are contemplating the arrival of iPhone 5, Celcom has finally revealed they are now also offering the iPhone 4.

Celcom's website revealed that they are giving the phone away for business plan users for a low RM248 with a two year contract (Celcom Biz), while individual plan (Celcom Exec) users may have to wait a little longer until they release details.

Those interested can however register their interest to know more about the individual iPhone plan here, as I do expect the Celcom plan to rival both Digi and Maxis iPhone plans.

Sony Tablet Reviewed

Sony today announced they are also going into the tablet market with their unique S1 and S2 Tablets. Both tablets are said to run on Android with the S1 is a slate design and has a 9.4-inch screen with 1,280 by 800 pixels resolution, while the S2 is a folding device equipped with dual 5.5-inch screens, each with 1,024 by 480 pixels resolution.

According to Sony, the S1 will have an infrared transmitter which means it can be used to control gadgets around the house. It will also supports the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance). The S2 on the other hand would would be PlayStation Certified -- a new program from Sony Computer Entertainment that extends the PlayStation gaming platform to other devices.

With most tablets coming in one size, I'm very much interested with the S2 tablet as it can be folded as my main problem with tablets is the fact that they are bulky and big.

Comparison Between Well Known Intel i5 Processors In Malaysia

When it comes to selecting a laptop, many will be confused with the types of processors there are in the market. While every processor may seem the same, but many of us will wonder what's the other codes about. For example; Intel i5-460M and Intel i5-480M. Which is better?

Well, I did a simple comparison and found out that there isn't much difference between i5-560M, i5-480M, i5-460M and i5-450M Intel processors. The share practically the same traits and abilities except two, which are the clock speed (how fast the processor can perform an activity) and Max Turbo Frequency(How fast the processor can work with Inter Turbo Boost-which means maximizing your processor speed). Nonetheless, the comparison I obtained also revealed that these 4 i5 processors does not benefit for the 2.0 version of the Intel Turbo Boost which would enable optimum usage performance.

Based on that, the best and fastest processor among the 4 would be the i5-560M, i5-480M, i5-460M and finally i5-450M Intel processor. These processors are normally well found in HP, Asus, Lenovo Toshiba and Dell notebooks.

Acer on the other hand seems to be using the i5-2410M Intel processor which has the 2.0 Intel Turbo Boost Technology, but this comes at a price as the i5-2410M has a low clock speed of 2.30Ghz. This means that you can get an optimum clock speed if compared to the previous 4 i5 processors. The i5-2410M processor also benefits from better graphic support and better memory specification.

New prefix comes with 8 numbers

The SKMM announced that there will be a new pre-fix for all mobile operators soon, which is 011. According to details released, only numbers with this new prefix will have 8 numbers making it a combination of 3+8 numbers. There is no specialty on this new move/number, except it would take you more effort to remember your buddies numbers which start with the prefix 011.

As for the rest of the prefixes (010, 012, 013, 014, 017, 018, 019), there will be no change in the number, and all benefits and services are as it is.

Time Broadband Packages

Time Broadband looks set to give other broadband providers a run with their money as they introduce their Time Fibre Broadband. The broadband is said to be running on TIME's state of-the-art fibre optic network which they claim to feature blazing download and upload speeds so you can chat, share files, watch high definition videos and do practically everything you've always wanted to do online, minus the lagging and waiting. According to reports, TIME's Broadband is capable of offering 50Mps access, which is much faster than the current 1Mbps provided by their rivals. The New DiGi Smart Plan Lite

Digi launched their Digi Smart Plan Lite for subscribers wanting to have limited but cheap data service on their smartphones today. The package which is believed to be aimed at less hardcore data users comes at a low RM33 for 300MB, which is half of the DiGi Smart Plan which comes at RM68 for unlimited usage. Call, SMS and MMS rates remain the same with the initial Smart Plan.

Not much details are yet to be obtained, but it is believed that subscribers will have their speed throttled after exceeding the allocated 300MB offered by this plan. Nonetheless, this latest data package will be much welcomed by internet savvy Malaysians, particularly those wanting to stay connected when they are on the go. More details available here.

Window 7 past 25% market share barrier

and it is widely believed that Windows 7 will soon rapidly replace Microsoft's Windows XP as the most influential Microsoft OS.

Windows 7, which has been touted as a worthy opponent to Apple's Mac seems to be gaining momentum of late, but most skeptics believe that the Mac still has an added advantage over the Windows, particularly in terms of branding and speed. To help dent Apple's dominance in the mobile world, Microsoft recently released Windows Phone 7 which can be easily integrated with the Windows 7, something similar with Apple's iPhone and Mac.

HTC HD7 Unbiased Review

I secured the HTC HD7 phone from Maxis, being one of the first in Malaysia to actually use and try out the phone under the Maxis10 programme which is solely created to review new smartphones.

The HTC HD7 looks solid

Excited as I was, the HTC HD7 does give you bowls of excitement. It's shinny, different and spanking new to the smart phone world, making it good for the daring to check out, and probably try out. First impression wise will make you happy because you're getting something more than expected, especially when you know it's running on Windows Phone OS, which you may easily have guessed is from Microsoft.

Moving a little into the phone reveals that it is strangely made stronger that other smart phones. You don't feel it's cheap, nor do you feel it's fragile. You get a complete 'in control' feel when you have the phone in your grasp.

User Interface of the WP7 is different

The user interface was amazing. Smooth tapping and swapping is evident the more you use the phone. It made a very lasting experience. Coupled with responsive buttons, and the ability to use voice recognition indeed makes this phone something Microsoft can be proud about.

And the beauty of this 4.3-inch phone doesn't stop there. Large, vibrant screen displays, a 5.0 mega-pixel camera with auto-focus, seamless integration with Facebook via the People Hub, Xbox360 integration in its Games Hub, Microsoft Office integration with the Office Hub and many more spells just how wonderful this phone can be. In fact, one of my favorite feature is it's battery life. Over 24-hours with wireless well connected!

Recording in HD

The phone also does over average HD recording, and images captured with the 5.0 mega-pixel was better than expected. The typing experience is indeed a joy as everything feels fluid enough to beat anysmart phone out there, while the sound system has been integrated with SRS for better experience. The use of Zune to transfer data is easy to understand, making file transfers and app search peanuts for even beginners.

Unfortunately though, the phone does come with some short comings. For starters, it's apps store (which is under the HTC Hub) is awful displaying only a few worthy apps. The Games Hub which could defeat any smart phone gaming feature does come at a price, hence making it a total turn-off, while most apps, including those built specially for the Windows Phone 7 by pro developers do come with bugs, making all these apps seem unstable.

As far as the recommended software 'Zune' is concern, it is merely for file transferring and not for backing up date. This is a hug dismay as you are over dependent on Microsoft for data back-up.

Exciting gaming with Xbox360

The long lasting battery life does come at a price as it takes forever to recharge the battery, while a lot of functions which should already be 'standard' in many smart phones are not featured in the WP7 OS. The 5.0 mega-pixel camera turns white images to pink under low light conditions too. This includes the 'cut and paste' feature, the ability to organize calls, file multi-tasking and customize ringtones.

Regardless of that, the HTC HD7 is a solid looking phone which will rock the world, provided that it gets the new upgrades it needs, most particularly in the apps segment.

YES 4G Now In Malaysia

Yes Broadband by YTL Communications is now available in Malaysia covering over 65% of West Malaysia. According to reports, YTL plans to expand its network coverage to 80% by next year, and also penetrate Sabah and Sarawak. This is indeed good as they are the first broadband or as they say it broader-band service to launch with such a wide coverage.

While tech savvy Malaysians are eager about the latest 4G offerings by YTL Communications, it's launched did hit a snag when their main website yes.my is inaccessible during launch time. This was indeed a major blow for many, as skeptics were quick to rebuff Yes as the next big thing, hence putting direct 4G rivals, P1 ahead.

As for the rates, nothing concrete can be found on their website after it was fixed, except for the following image.

Apart from their confusing yet plain website, it seems that YTL Communications is still unprepared to say Yes to Malaysians.

With that said, there is a lot of things people in Yes needs to figure out and learn from other broadband providers as their plans seem to be very difficult to understand, hence making it hard for me to say yes to them.
