Lets analyse this under the light of Quran and Hadith:

Allah says:"Surely, your Rubb is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days; then He rose over the Throne(Arsh)." Quran (7:54)

And they esteem not as he hath the right to be esteemed, for on the Day of Resurrection, the earth will be collected in His hand and the heavens will be folded up in His right hand.[Quran 39:67 ]

On the Day of Judgement : “And the angels will be on the sides and eight angels will, that day ,will bear the throne of their lord above them ” (Quran - 69:17)

The above ayat narrates that 8 angels will physically carry the throne with Allah over it.

And Allah also says:"O, Issa (Jesus)! I shall take you and raise you up to Me." [Q -3:55]

Since Allah addressed Issa saying: "I will raise you up to Me", what would those who believe that Allah is everywhere answer when they are asked: "Where is Issa now?" They would say either Issa is everywhere, or he is in heaven.

The Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) reported his eventful journey from Makkah to Jerusalem (al-Mi'raj) and from there up to the heavens as follows:
Jibreel took me up to the lowest heaven and requested its guards to open its gat……The Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) was taken up to his Rubb from one heaven above the other. [Imam al-Bukhari, Imam Muslim and others.]
Had Allah been everywhere, why would the Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) be taken all the way up to the seventh heaven? Allah would have prescribed to him the Salaah on earth rather than in the seventh heaven.

The Standpoint of Imam Abu Hanifah

Abu Muti' Al-Balkhi reported:"I asked Imam Abu Hanifah about a person who says, 'I do not know whether my Rubb is, above the heavens or on earth?' Abu Hanifah, may Allah grant him His mercy, said: 'A person who makes such a statement becomes an apostate because Allah, the Exalted says, 'The Merciful has ascended above the 'Arsh, and the 'Arsh of Allah is above His heavens'.

I further asked Abu Hanifah, 'What if such a person admits, Allah is above His 'Arsh, but exclaims, I do not know whether His 'Arsh is above the heavens or on earth'. Abu Hanifah responded: 'If he denies that the 'Arsh is above the heavens, he is an apostate."[Sharhut-Tahawiyyah, p.288 ]

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) said: "There are hundred levels in Jannah which Allah has prepared for the Mujahideen who fight in His cause. Between on level and another is a distance which is equal to that between the earth and the heaven. When you ask Allah, azza wajull, ask Him for Firdaws, because it is situated in the midst and Highest point of Jannah from where the rivers of Jannah spring, and above it is the 'Arsh of the Most Merciful."[Imam al-Bukhari, Ahmad, and others]

Mu'awiyah as-Sahmi reported: "I had some sheep which I kept between Uhud and Juwaniyyah with a slave-girl to look after them. One day, I went out to check on my sheep and discovered that a wolf had devoured one of them. Since I am just a human, (I became angry) and struck the girl. Later on, I came to the Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) and reported to him the incident. He terrified me with the gravity of my action. I said, 'Messenger of Allah'! Shall I free her (as an expiation of my sin.) He said 'Call her over'. When I did, he asked her, 'Where is Allah?' She said, 'Above the heavens'. Then he asked her, 'Who am I?' She said, 'The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) '. Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) ordered me, 'Free her. She is a believer'."[Imam Muslim, Abu Dawood, and others. ]

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) said: "Allah will descend to His slaves on the Day of Resurrection."[At-Tirmidthi and others]

Some Misconceptions over the Quranic Verses :

Or have ye taken security from Him Who is above the heaven that he will not send against you a stone-charged hurricane… Truly it is He that watches over all things. [Quran 67:17-19]

And He is Allah above the heaven and on the earth He knows your private and public affairs. And He knows what you achieve.[Quran 6 :3]

Those who deny that Allah is above His Arsh, dubiously argue that this verse supports their argument. Their argument is refuted by realizing that this verse refers to the knowledge of Allah, according to the renowned exegetes, not His essence. They further assert that this verse signifies that the knowledge of Allah encompasses all things in the heavens and on the earth. The reference to the divine knowledge is made clearly by repeating the clause, 'He knows' twice in this verse, that is to say: "Allah, the Exalted, knows the hidden and the open, and He knows what you achieve".

Do you not see that Allah knows all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth? There is no secret counsel of three, but He is their fourth,… Then on the Day of Resurrection He will inform them of what they did. Surely, Allah knows all things full well."[Quran - 58:7]

If one were to believe that Allah is essentially everywhere, it would follow then that He also dwells in filthy places. Only an insane person would dare to impute to Allah such an attribute. Far removed is Allah of what they ascribe to Him.

Miracle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

<img style="display:block; The first month of the Hijra calendar – is one of the four sacred months about which Allah said:

"Verily, the number of months with Allah is 12 months (in a year), so it was ordained by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them, four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein…" (Qur'an, 9:36)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"The year is 12 months of which four are sacred, the three consecutive months of Dhu'l-Qa'dah, Dhu'l-Hijjah and Muharram, and Rajab which comes between Jumada and Sha'ban." (Al-Bukhari, 2958)

It was reported that Ibn 'Abbas said that this phrase "so wrong not yourselves therein…" referred to all the months, then these four were singled out and made sacred, so that sin in these months is more serious and good deeds bring a greater reward.

Voluntary fasting

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

"The best of fasting after Ramadan is fasting Allah's month of Muharram." (Sahih Muslim)

This Hadith is probably meant to encourage fasting during Muharram, without meaning that one should fast for the entire month.

Fasting on 'Ashoora'

Ibn Abbas said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) came to Madina and saw the Jews fasting on the day of 'Ashoora'. When he asked them about it, they said, 'This is a blessed day, it is the day when Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemies, so Musa (peace be upon him) fasted on this day.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'We have more right to Musa (peace be upon him) than you,' so he fasted on that day and commanded (the Muslims) to fast on that day." (Al-Bukhari)

Fasting on the day of 'Ashoora was earlier obligatory, but when fasting Ramadan was made obligatory, the obligation to fast 'Ashoora was cancelled, i.e., it was no longer obligatory to fast on this day, but it is still recommended.

Virtues of fasting 'Ashoora'

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "For fasting the day of 'Ashoora, I hope that Allah will accept it as expiation for the year that went before." (Sahih Muslim)

This is from the bounty of Allah towards us. By fasting one day, He expiates our sins for the whole year. And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty.

Fasting the ninth and tenth

Abdullah Ibn Abbas said: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) fasted on 'Ashoora and commanded the Muslims to fast as well, they said, 'O Messenger of Allah, it is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'If I live to see the next year, Insha Allah, we will fast on the ninth day too.' But it so happened that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed away before the next year came." (Sahih Muslim)

Al-Shafi'i and his companions, Ahmad, Ishaq and others said: "It is Mustahab (recommended) to fast on both days, ninth and tenth, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) fasted on the tenth, and intended to fast on the ninth."

Are non-Muslims allowed inside mosques?

Yes.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 370px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rcRnQhQKpIY/Sa6uLyAxtlI/AAAAAAAAAyI/_AF8TAoS6xE/s400/5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5309372528143218258" />

The Qur’an does not prohibit anyone from visiting a mosque (provided they are not there to cause trouble) as it is a House of God that can and should be used for the worship of God by all. Only idolatry is prohibited in a mosque but even then all are welcome to visit a mosque. This declaration against idolatry in a mosque was to protect the Ka’aba (and therefore any mosque) and to ensure that it would remain a sanctuary for those who believe in the Oneness of God.

According to Islam, non-Muslims are even allowed in the Sacred Mosque in Makkah and Madinah.

It is recorded that the Christians of Najran came to see the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). He arranged the meeting in his mosque at Madinah, during the meeting the Christians asked leave from the mosque for worship. The Prophet (saw) said that the mosque in which they were was a house of God and they were welcome to offer their prayers there. So they did offer their prayers in the mosque of the Holy Prophet (saw) (Ibn Hisham, I, 575-577)

Islamic teaching

"O, [Allaah, the] Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Your obedience."

Narrated Abduh ibn Abdurrahim :

"We went on an expedition to one of the lands of Rome; and among us was a youth of who there was none amongst us more proficient in reciting The Qur'ân than him, and none of us was more knowledgeable of fiqh and inheritance laws than him, one who used to fast the days and stand at night in prayer.

Whilst in our expedition we passed by a fort -of which we were not ordered to stop for- [guarded by many soldiers] ; and this youth stopped close to the fort as if he was relieving himself.

So he looked up the fort and he caught sight of a woman from among the women of the Romans who was looking from that fort, and she amazed him.

And as such he desired her, so he talked to her in the Roman language : 'Tell me the way to get to you?'

So she replied: 'For you to become a christian, then we will open the door for you [to enter the fort] ; and I am yours.'

And he answered that call of hers, and he entered the fort!

In one narration it says : [The Muslims were not aware of the on-goings except that by the time they realized ; he was with her!]

[The narrator continues to say] Consequently we were covered in great distress and encountered hardship in our expedition because of that. It was as if each of our men took that to be as if it happened to his own child.

After some time while on another expedition, we returned and passed by this same fortified town: and there he was with that woman, and the Christians ; looking at us [from the fort].

So we said [to him] : 'O so- and –so what happened to your Qur'ân? What happened to your knowledge? What happened to your fasting? What happened to your prayers!"

And there he said to us : 'Indeed, know that; I have forgotten all the Qura'n except His statement :

رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَوْ كَانُواْ مُسْلِمِينَ

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُواْ وَيَتَمَتَّعُواْ وَيُلْهِهِمُ الأَمَلُ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

"Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims.

Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope.

They will come to know!"

[Suraatul Hijr 1-2]

Source : Al-Muntadham of Ibnul Jawzee, Taarikh al-Islaam of Imaam Adh-Dhahabi under the biography of Abduh ibn Abdur rahim, Taarikh al-Dimashq of Ibn Asaakir : 37/379

Lessons:

1. The great benefit of lowering the gaze.

2. The Importance of fighting the desires, especially the fitna between the opposite genders.

3. Loving for your fellow Muslim that which you love for yourself, and hating for him that which you see is harmful to him. [And what is more of a calamity than seeing a Muslim leave the light of belief and choosing the darkness of shirk !]

4.The diligence of shaytaan and his allies – in their greatest goal – against the Muslims : to make them apostatize.

Especially in the times of tribulations; the true colours of people come forth. As you see, Indeed she didn't ask him for wealth or anything else. Allaahu Musta'n.

5. Don't be amazed by the actions of a person, only Allaah knows the reality of the end of a person.

6. Prior to that, don't be amazed by your own deeds!

7. The Importance of supplicating for steadfastness, and uprightness in the religion upto the end of one's life.

Indeed the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) used to do so, and taught us to do so, as in the hadeeth of Umm Salamah by Shihr who said : 'I said to Umm Salamah : 'O Mother of the Believers, what is the duaa' which the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) would supplicate the most while in your presence? '

So she said : 'The frequent supplication of his was :

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ

"O, Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Your obedience."

And also reported by Imaam Ahmad , from the hadeeth of 'Aisha (radhiyaAllaahu anha): 'The Dua' which the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) used to supplicate with a lot…' then she mentioned it.

Taken from Silsilah as-Saheeha of Al-Imaam Al-Albaanee : 2091

Description of Allah

In Arabic, Allah means literally the one God to worship.

The word "Allah" is the perfect description of the "One God" of monotheism for Muslims.

Allah Has no gender [unique one]

Allah Means "The Only One to be Worshipped"

The Quran says about the character of god in the following verses

1. One of the website says: "A few teachings found in these divinely inspired texts include the medical virtues of camel urine: The prophet ordered them to follow his camels, and drink their milk and urine, so they followed the camels and drank their milk and urine till their bodies became healthy."

t was the first time I heard the hadith, and it really got me thinking. Sure, we all know anti-biotics are made of mold...but camel urine? I decided to research the whole thing and reply to him. I was quite surprised to find that while the Prophet Muhammad had indeed recommended camel urine to these guys, man, people have been drinking their own stuff for ages! Heres my reply, hope I can help some people who are 'drowning' in confusion....I know the feeling....

First lets look at the hadith:

Narrated Abu Qilaba: "Anas said, "Some people of 'Ukl or 'Uraina tribe came to Medina and its climate did not suit them. So the Prophet ordered them to go to the herd of (Milch) camels and to drink their milk and urine (as a medicine). So they went as directed and after they became healthy, they killed the shepherd of the Prophet and drove away all the camels. The news reached the Prophet early in the morning and he sent (men) in their pursuit and they were captured and brought at noon. He then ordered to cut their hands and feet (and it was done), and their eyes were branded with heated pieces of iron, They were put in 'Al-Harra' and when they asked for water, no water was given to them." Abu Qilaba said, "Those people committed theft and murder, became infidels after embracing Islam and fought against Allah and His Apostle . (Sahih Bukhari, Ablutions (Wudu'), Volume 1, Book 4, Number 234)"

MY REFUTATION: Do you know what’s in your medication? How do you know it’s any better than camel urine? Who would ever think that a drop of human discharge could become a complex living being? Who would have ever thought camel urine MAY cure an illness? I put together this article about ‘urine-therapy’. You will be surprised.

History of Urine-Therapy

The history of drinking urine for therapeutic purposes dates back at least to the Holy Roman Empire when great urinal troths were erected in the public squares of each city-state for residents to both contribute to, and benefit from. For centuries European Gypsies have known about the curative properties of urine, using cow urine to cure Bright's Disease (several acute and chronic diseases of the kidneys which produce albumin in urine). It has also been reported that the Yogis and Lamas of Tibet reach extended ages by drinking their own urine.

Through the ages there have been literally thousands of champions of this curious practice: In the early 1800s, a book titled One Thousand Notable Things describes the use of urine to cure scurvy, relieve skin itching, cleanse wounds, and many other treatments. An 18th century French dentist praised urine as a valuable mouthwash. In England during the 1860-70s, the drinking of one's own urine was a common cure for jaundice. In more modern times, the Alaskan Eskimos have used urine as an antiseptic to treat wounds.

“For hundreds of years, other cultures have used urine to treat a wide variety of health problems. Practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine (from India) routinely use urine as a remedy. Daily doses of 1 to 2 ounces of warm cow’s urine is used to treat cirrhosis of the liver. It is also prescribed as a diuretic, a laxative, and as a treatment for chronic malaria, headaches and fever. Goat’s urine is used for the same type of problems, while ox urine is prescribed to relive jaundice, worms, and diarrhea. Camel urine is used as a stimulant in cardiovascular disease. Human urine, however, still remains the most popular remedy.” Excerpts from Vol. 5, No. 14 August, 1994 Alternatives For the Health Conscious Individual The standard authority for drugs in Europe until the end of the eighteenth century was Lamery's Dictionnaire Universelle des Drogues. One of the late editions, published in 1759, contains a list of remedies under "Homo." It explains: "All parts of man, his excrescences and excrements, contain oil and the sals volatile, combined with phlegm and earth..."

Horse Urine as a Western Cure

The popular estrogen product called PREMARIN is given to postmenopausal women. This PREMARIN is extracted from HORSE URINE. The name stands for PREgnant MARe urIN. Premarin, has become the third most prescribed drug in the world (just behind Tylenol).

Recent Proof?

Scientists from the United Arab Emirates have proposed using one of the world's hardiest mammals - the camel - in the campaign to fight and eradicate human diseases. A team led by Dr Sabah Jassim from the Zayed Complex for Herbal Research and Traditional Medicine has suggested that camels are highly resistant to many deadly viral diseases and their antibodies could be used for new drugs.

Camels have a unique physiology which allows them to thrive in some of the world's harshest environments. But as well as these advantages, they have immune systems that are so robust, they remain free from many of the viral diseases that affect other mammals, such as foot-and-mouth and rinderpest.

The antibodies that camels carry inside them are structurally much simpler than those of humans, and Dr Sabah Jassim suggests they would be much simpler to replicate artificially than human antibodies. Writing in the British Institute of Biology's magazine, The Biologist, Dr Jassim says the small size of camel antibodies would also allow them to penetrate deep into human tissue and cells that would not be otherwise accessible. - By BBC correspondent David Bamford
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/1702393.stm

A researcher from a teaching hospital in the Sudan presented a study of 30 patients with ascites -- an accumulation of serum in the abdominal cavity that causes distended stomachs -- that found that they responded slightly better to 150 ml of camel urine a day than to a standard medicine, the diuretic frusimide. And a Chinese pharmaceutical company reported that in a clinical study, its urine-derived cancer drug CDA-II cured 61 percent of patients, compared with a 30 percent cure rate for chemotherapy.

Recent News in the Urine/Medical Issue:

In New York City, alternative health guru Gary Null has devoted several segments of his popular radio program on WBAI (99.5 FM, 12 noon, Monday through Friday) to extolling the benefits of the urine cure.

According to Dr. Beatrice Bartnett in her pamphlet, Urine-Therapy: It May Save Your Life: “morning urine is the richest and best urine to drink, partially due to the greater level of hormonal secretion that takes place in the late night hours when the body is totally relaxed and repairing itself.”

While many people are aware that Gandhi drank his urine, few know that leather-clad rocker Jim Morrison began the practice of drinking his urine while on an LSD-induced spiritual quest in the Mojave Desert. One of the more famous modern day cases involves movie star Steve McQueen, who, it is said, in the last stages of cancer, survived solely on a diet of urine and boiled alligator skin prescribed by his Mexican doctors.

An enterprising young company has come up with a way to trap medically powerful proteins from urine. Enzymes of America has designed a special filter that collects important urine proteins, and these filters have been installed in all of the men's urinals in the 10,000 portable outhouses owned by the Porta-John company, a subsidiary of Enzymes of America.

Indian yogis reportedly have been drinking their urine as a cure for more than 5,000 years. More than 600 scientists gathered in Goa, India, for the first World Conference on Auto-Urine Therapy in February 1996. Some proponents in attendance believe human urine can treat everything from baldness to cancer and AIDS. The use of urine as a topical rub and drink not only is common in India, but also in Japan and Germany and a growing number of countries. At least two books, "The Golden Fountain: The Complete Guide to Urine Therapy," by Coen van der Kroon, and "Your Own Perfect Medicine," by Martha Christy, provide more info on “Urine-Therapy”.

The Second World Conference on Urine Therapy, held last month in Gersfeld, Germany. There, in a tiny resort two hours outside Frankfurt, the Nicholses and 250 other health enthusiasts -- several dozen with M.D. after their names -- from more than 40 countries spent four days debating, discussing and charting the future of one of the world's oldest but least respected healing arts.

Islam’s stance-Conclusion

First of all, let us clarify the reason and story behind the prescription. Some people had become very ill at the time of the prophet, and were suffering from an unknown illness. Their bellies had swollen and they were not in a fit state. Hence, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them, that they would find a cure in the milk and urine of a camel and so he sent them out to an area where camels were grazing fresh herbs. These men went to this area and drank the milk and urine. Sure enough, just like the Prophet said, they were cured and became fit and healthy.

Yet the Prophet had said in another Prophetic saying that body excretions, such as blood, pus, urine, etc, was filthy and prohibited in Islamic law. It is Islamically prohibited for a Muslim to drink their urine. Muslim scholars came to the conclusion that the real meaning of this the Prophets odd prescription is that if a person needs to consume an impure and impermissible substance as a cure for an illness, and no other reasonable alternative is available, then it is permissible

In all other circumstances, camel urine or ANY animal urine is prohibited.

As for human urine, it is forbidden no matter what; the Prophet Muhammad told us that it is simply waste matter, and is filthy and impure (a Muslim can not pray if he has any on his clothes).

Islamic Research Foundation

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 136px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rcRnQhQKpIY/SSKCtN9p9DI/AAAAAAAAAvs/5_717nXeagU/s400/irf2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269918227330888754" />
The Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), Mumbai, India, is a registered non-profit public charitable trust. It was established in February 1991. It promotes Islamic Da’wah - the proper presentation, understanding and appreciation of Islam, as well as removing misconceptions about Islam - amongst less aware Muslims and non-Muslims.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 206px; height: 140px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rcRnQhQKpIY/SSKCo1ioM9I/AAAAAAAAAvk/3XLbQruxZds/s400/irf1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269918152055600082" />
IRF uses modern technology for its activities, whereever feasible. Its presentation of Islam reach millions of people worldwide through international satellite T.V. channels, cable T.V. networks, internet and the print media. IRF's activities and facilities provide the much needed understanding about the truth and excellence of Islamic teachings - based on the glorious Qur'an and authentic Hadith, as well as adhering to reasons, logic and scientific facts.

Zakir naik lectures

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 206px; height: 136px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rcRnQhQKpIY/SSKBw_bRZyI/AAAAAAAAAvU/59oTqyomJ_8/s400/nzpublictalks4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269917192636426018" />

Dr. Zakir Naik, President of the IRF, has delivered more than 1000 public talks in the U.S.A., Canada, U.K., Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, South Africa, Italy, Mauritius, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hongkong, Thailand, Guyana (South America), Trinidad and many other countries, in addition to many public talks in India. Many of these are available on VCDs and DVDs. He is renowned for his critical analysis and spontaneous and convincing answers to challenging questions posed by the audiences and sceptics after his public talks, in the open Question & Answer sessions. He has, Alhamdulillah, successfully overcome challenges from prominent personalities of other faiths in dialogues and debates.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 206px; height: 136px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rcRnQhQKpIY/SSKB49KXsUI/AAAAAAAAAvc/nL25dRQuntU/s400/zpublictalks3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269917329467617602" />

Dr. Zakir has appeared on various international T.V. and Satellite T.V. channel programmes as well as Radio programmes in the U.S.A, Malaysia, South Africa, India, etc. He is regularly quizzed and interviewed by the media worldwide, specially on "Why Islam conflicts with issues of women’s rights, human rights, modern science and secularism?". But his dynamic resolve to dispel "media myths" about Islam with facts, specific references and in proper context stands out to rectify or neutralize the prejudice or bias (if any) about Islam.

Dr. Zakir explains the teachings of Islam and clears misconceptions convincingly with the help of Reason, Logic and Science. He has tremendous ability to quote extensively and verbatim from the Holy Qur’an and other religious scriptures.

FORBIDDEN TO USE WINE AS A MEDICINE

Chapter 2: IT IS FORBIDDEN TO PREPARE VINEGAR FROM KHAMR (WINE)

Book 023, Number 4891:

Anas reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) was asked about the use of Khamr from which vinegar is prepared. The brother has posed a question, how can you scientifically prove the existence of God Almighty, the existence of Allah (SWT) to especially to an Atheist, who does not believe in God.

CONGRATULATING AN ATHEIST

The first thing I will do is that , I will congratulate that Atheist. I will congratulate him - You know why? If you look around us - he is a Hindu because father is a Hindu - He is a Christian because father is a Christian - Some Muslims are Muslims because their fathers are Muslim. This person, though he may be coming from a religious background, he does not believe in the false god which his parents attribute to - so he does not believe in God. I am congratulating him because he has accepted the first word of the ‘Shahada’, the first part of the Islamic creed ‘La Ilaha’ - there is no god. Now my job is to prove ‘Illallah’, ‘but Allah’ - which I shall do Inshaallah.

To the other people, I have to first to remove the wrong concept of ‘god’ and then prove the right concept of the Allah (SWT). Here half my job is done. He has already said ‘La Ilaha’ - There is no god. Now I have to prove ‘Illallah’, ‘but Allah’ - which I shall do Inshaallah.

You ask this Atheist, that suppose there is an object… an unidentified… may be a flying object which no one in the world has seen - No human being in the world knows about this object. If it is brought in front of you, and if you ask that who will be the first person who will be able to tell you the mechanism of this unidentified object, you have to ask him the question. Who is the first person , who will be able to tell you the mechanism of this new object which no one in the world has seen? After thinking for a while, he will give the answer – ‘the person who will be able to tell you the mechanism…the first person, is the Creator of that object’. Some may say ‘Manufacturer’, some may say ‘Producer’. Whatever they say, don’t grapple with the words…accept it - It will be somewhat similar. Either ‘Creator’, or ‘Producer’, or ‘Manufacturer’ - but remember what he has told you - Keep it in your mind.

Then ask him the next question - How did the Universe come to existence - How was it formed? He will tell you by the Big Bang Theory. Tell him the Qur’an mentions in Surah Anbiya, Ch. 21, V. No. 30,
about the Big Bang Theory. Who could have mentioned this in the Qur’an 1400 years ago? -

He will tell you… ‘May be it is a fluke’. Don’t argue with him - Next part of the question. We did not know the light of the Moon is reflected light - We came to know recently - You ask him.

He will tell you… ‘Yes, yes the light of the Moon is reflected light – it is not its own light’. When we discovered ? He will tell you… ‘Recently, yesterday, fifty years back, hundred years back, yesterday in science’. You tell him, the Qur’an mentioned that – ‘the light of the moon is reflected light’, fourteen hundred years ago. Who could have mentioned that ?

He will say may be somebody had a wild guess. Do not argue with him…. Continue - We thought the sun was stationary. You ask him - Is it stationary ? He will say… ‘ No it is rotating and revolving’. When did you learn this?

He will tell you… ‘Yesterday… fifty years back… twenty years back’. Qur’an mentioned this fourteen hundred years ago.

He will hesitate, but may say – ‘May be, some intelligent person wrote it’. Don’t argue with it… Continue. How was the universe initially - What is celestial matter ?

He will tell you ‘it was Smoke’. How did you come to know ? ‘We have got proof, we have got evidence’. You tell him… ‘Qur’an mentioned this fourteen hundred years ago’. Who could have mentioned that? -

He will hesitate. Don’t wait for a response… Continue - Keep on posing question after question. All that I have given in the lecture - Keep on posing one question after the other. That, ‘water cycle’, how did you come to know about it? Qur’an mentioned it fourteen hundred years ago. About – ‘every living thing made from water’ - Who could have mentioned that ?

Qur’an speaks about Botany - the ‘male and female’ - Who could have mentioned that ? Pose one after the other and ask the question – ‘Who could have written that’ ?

Then you tell him there is a theory known as ‘Theory of Probability’.That if you have two choice, out of which one is right - the chances that you will make the correct choice just at random, is one in two.

For example, if I toss a coin it can be either heads or tails - The chances I will be right, will be one in two. If I toss it twice, the chances I will be right both the times, will be 1/2 multiplied by 1/2 that is 1/4. Twenty five percent chance. If I toss it thrice, chances I will be right all three times, 1/2 multiplied by 1/2 multiplied by 1/2, it is 1/8. 12 and 1/2 %. A dice has got six sides. If I throw a dice, the chances that at random I will be correct is 1/6. If I through it twice, the chances that both the times I will be right, will be 1/6 x 1/6 which is 1/36. This is called as ‘Theory of Probability’. If I throw the dice twice, and then toss a coin, all three being right will be 1/6 multiplied by 1/6 multiplied by 1/2 is 1/72. So you ask him - the chances may be if you ask - what is the shape of the earth?

There are various shapes. Some may say if is flat, some may say its triangular, some may say it is hexagonal, some may say pentagonal, some may say heptagonal, some may say square. Say there can be ten shapes. Some may say it is round, it is spherical - the chances that if any one makes a wild guess, it being correct, is 1/10
‘The light of the Moon’ - it can either be its own light, or it can be reflected light. The chances that you make a wild guess and it being correct will be one upon two. The chances that both – ‘shape of the earth’ and ‘light of the moon being reflected light’- both being correct, if you make a wild guess - it will be 1/10 multiplied by 1/2, it is 1/20. What can the living creatures be made of ? Some may say ‘Sand’, some may say ‘Stone’, some may say ‘Aluminum’, some may say ‘Gold’ - say a thousand materials you can name. Some may say ‘Water’, some may say ‘Silver’, a thousand materials. The chances that you make a wild guess, and one of them being right according to mathematics, is one upon a thousand. The chances that all three being correct - ‘the earth is spherical’, ‘light of the moon is reflected light’, and ‘every living creature created from water’… is correct, will be 1/10 multiplied by 1/2 multiplied by 1/1000. Answer comes to 1/20,000 or 0.005 percent.

Qur’an speaks about scientific… science more than a thousand verses. In three verses, the chances comes to 0.05 percent. If you apply probability theory to all these being at random, chance it will come to zero… negligible. And in Maths - anything one in ten raise to fifty, it is equal to zero. So you ask your Atheist friend…

‘Who could have written this?’ The only answer he can give you is, his first answer – ‘the Creator’, ‘the Manufacturer’. The person who has produced it – That is the only answer. There is no other answer.

Let me remind you that the Qur’an is not a book of Science, ‘S-C-I-E-N-C-E’ but a book of Signs ‘S-I-G-N-S’ i.e. a book of ayaats. The Qur’an contains more than 6,000 ayaats, i.e. ‘signs’, out of which more than a thousand speak about Science.

I am not trying to prove that the Qur’an is the word of God using scientific knowledge as a yard stick because any yardstick is supposed to be more superior than what is being checked or verified. For us Muslims the Qur’an is the Furqan i.e. criteria to judge right from wrong and the ultimate yardstick which is more superior to scientific knowledge.

But for an educated man who is an atheist, scientific knowledge is the ultimate test which he believes in. We do know that science many a times takes ‘U’ turns, therefore I have restricted the examples only to scientific facts which have sufficient proof and evidence and not scientific theories based on assumptions. Using the ultimate yardstick of the atheist,

I am trying to prove to him that the Qur’an is the word of God and it contains the scientific knowledge which is his yardstick which was discovered recently, while the Qur’an was revealed 1400 year ago. At the end of the discussion, we both come to the same conclusion that God though superior to science, is not incompatible with it.

Francis Bacon, the famous philosopher, has rightly said that a little knowledge of science makes man an atheist, but an in-depth study of science makes him a believer in God.

What Science is saying today is… Scientists today are eliminating models of God, but they are not eliminating God. If you translate this into Arabic, it is La illaha illal la, There is no god, (god with a small ‘g’ that is fake god) but God (with a capital ‘G’). I hope that answers the question.

Surah Fussilat:

“Soon We will show them our signs in the (farthest) regions (of the earth), and in their own souls, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth. Is it not enough that thy Lord doth witness all things?”
[Al-Quran 41:53]

Luqman’s Wisdom

The following are the words of wisdom of Luqman as described in the Quran. Later, another section quotes his wisdom as narrated by other reliable narrators as mentioned by Ibn Katheer in his book “Stories of the Prophets”.

Luqman’s wisdom in the Quran

Luqman’s wisdom in the Quran is described in the context of him explaining it to his son. It is described in the Quran in the following verses.

Regarding not to associate anyone in the worship and oneness of Allah –

And (remember) when Luqman said to his son when he was advising him: “O my son! Join not in worship others with Allah. Verily! Joining others in worship with Allah is a great Zoolm (wrong) indeed. (Quran: Luqman: 13)

Being dutiful to ones parents –

And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination. (Quran: Luqman: 14)

Being dutiful to ones parents except where they tell you to deviate from the Right path –

But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not, but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience. Then to Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do. (Quran: Luqman: 15)

Every person is accountable for everything that he does –

“O my son! If it be (anything) equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed, and though it be in a rock, or in the heavens or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Verily, Allah is Subtle (in bringing out that grain), WellAware (of its place). (Quran: Luqman: 16)

Enjoining Prayers

“O my son! perform AsSalat (prayers), enjoin (people) for Al-Maroof (Islamic Monotheism and all that is good), and forbid (people) from AlMunkar (i.e. disbelief in the Oneness of Allah, polytheism of all kinds and all that is evil and bad), and bear with patience whatever befalls you. Verily! These are some of the important commandments ordered by Allah with no exemption. (Quran: Luqman: 17)

Do not be arrogant and proud

“And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allah likes not each arrogant boaster. (Quran: Luqman: 18)

Be humble and lower your voice

“And be moderate (or show no insolence) in your walking, and lower your voice. Verily, the harshest of all voices is the voice (braying) of the donkey.” (Quran: Luqman: 19)

What is meant by Wisdom?

Wisdom provides us with the capacity to solve real life problems. So, acquiring wisdom becomes a must if we want to live meaningful lives. As we live through life and its experiences, it is vital that we reflect on such experiences to make our subsequent steps in life easier. As Immanuel Kant, a famous philosopher said that

“Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life.”

So, if wisdom enables a person to make more sound decisions, take a shortcut path to success, recalibrate values for the better, and simply live a better life, then why not spend time reflecting on our own experiences as well as learning from others? As Will Durant, a renowned philosopher and Pulitzer Prize winner stated,

“A wise man can learn from another man’s experience; a fool cannot learn even from his own.”

The words of the Quran and teachings of our prophet Muhammad guide us to a wealth of wisdom and knowledge. In fact, Allah calls Quran the “Book of wisdom” in many places in the Quran. He says:

“A.L.R. These are the ayats of the Book of wisdom.” (Yunus, Chapter #10, Verse #1).
The Almighty also says:

“We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran, in order that ye may learn wisdom.” (Yusuf, Chapter #12, Verse #2)

Quran emphasizes the importance of wisdom throughout its text. Allah sent prophets and messengers to propagate that wisdom. He says in one of such verses:

“A similar (favor have ye already received) is that We have sent among you a Messenger of your own, rehearsing to you Our Signs, and sanctifying you, and instructing you in Scripture and wisdom, and in new knowledge.” (Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #151)”

In its text, Quran also teaches wisdom through the words of a person named Luqman. Although not a prophet, Allah had granted him enormous wisdom. He was wise enough to have an entire chapter named after him. He was a pious person and according to the Quran was granted wisdom by Allah. As Allah says in the Quran: And indeed We bestowed upon Luqman AlHikmah (wisdom and religious understanding, etc.) saying:

“Give thanks to Allah,” and whoever gives thanks, he gives thanks for (the good of) his ownself. And whoever is unthankful, then verily, Allah is All Rich (Free of all wants), Worthy of all praise. (Luqman: 12)

In his book “Stories of the Prophet”, Ibn Katheer writes that Luqman’s real name was known as “Luqman Ibn ‘Anqa’ Ibn Sadun” or according to some “Luqman Ibn Tharan” who was from among the people of Aylah (Jerusalem) (Stated by As-Suhaili from Ibn Jarir and Al-Qutaibi). Some accounts describe him as an Ethiopian slave who worked as a carpenter. Because of his wisdom people went to him to settle their affairs and therefore he was also known to be a judge.

Although Quran makes no reference regarding him being as a prophet, it is narrated by some as described by Ibn Katheer in his book “Stories of the Prophet” that he was offered to become one. Ibn Katheer mentions, Sa’id said: I heard Qatadah as saying: It was said to Luqman: “How did you prefer wisdom to Prophethood when you were enabled to choose between them?” He said: “If Allah were to assign me with Prophethood, I would accept it and try hard to win His Pleasure, but He enabled me to choose. I feared of being too weak for Prophethood, so I chose wisdom.”

LEASING OUT LAND

Book 010, Number 3715:

Jabir b. Khadij (Allah be pleased with him) narratted (a hadith) in which (there was a decree) of prohibition by Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him). He (Ibn 'Umar) went to him (Rafi b. Khadij) and I was with him and he asked him, whereupon he said: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) used to forbid the renting of land. So Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) abandoned it, and subsequently whenever he was asked about it, he said: Rafi b. Khadij. He (the narrator) said: He then went to him along with me. He (Rafi) narrated from some of his uncles in which it was mentioned that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) forbade the renting of land. Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) then abandoned this practice of renting. This hadith has been narrated through another chain of transmitters.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book 010, Number 3741:
Salim b. Abdullah reported that AbduUah b. Umar (Allah be pleased with them) used to give land on rent until (this news) reached him that Rafi b. Khadij Ansari used to forbid the renting of land. Abdullah met him and said: Ibn Khadij, what is this that you narrate from Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) pertaining to renting of land? Rafi b. Khadij said to Abdullah: I heard it from two uncles of mine and they had participated in the Battle of Badr who narrated to the members of the family that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade the renting of land. Abdullah said: I knew it that the land was rented during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him). Abdullah then apprehended that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) might have said something new in this connection (in regard to prohibition of renting) which I failed to know. So he abandoned the renting of land.

ADVICE IN REGARD TO WOMEN

Book 008, Number 3466:

AbuHuraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Woman is like a rib. Sahla daughter of Suhail came to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: Allah's Messenger, I swear by Allah that I see in the face of Abu Hudhaifa (the signs of disgust) on account of entering of Salim (in the house), whereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Suckle him. She (Sahla bint Suhail) said: He has a heard. But he (again) said: Suckle him, and it would remove what is there (expression of disgust) on the face of Abu Hudhaifa. She said: (I did that) and, by Allah, I did not see (any sign of disgust) on the face of Abu Hadhaifa.

Book 008, Number 3429:

Umm Salama, the wife of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), used to say that all wives of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) disclaimed the idea that one with this type of fosterage (having been suckled after the proper period) should come to them. and said to 'A'isha: By Allah, we do not find this but a sort of concession given by Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) only for Salim, and no one was ging to be allowed to enter (our houses) with this type of fosterage and we do not subscribe to this view.

Book 008, Number 3430:

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) visited me when a man was sitting near me, and he seemed to disapprove of that. And I saw signs of anger on his face and I said: Messenger of Allah, he is my brother by forsterage, whereupon he said: Consider who your brothers are because of fosterage since fosterage is through hunger (i. e. in infancy).

Book 008, Number 3431:

This hadith is narrated on the authority of Abd al-Ahwas with another chain of transmitters and a slight variation of words.

WHEN ONE IS INVITED TO A WEDDING FEAST, ONE SHOULD ACCEPT IT

Book 008, Number 3337:

Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: When any one of you is invited to a feast, he should attend it.

Book 008, Number 3338:

Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: When any one of you is invited to a feast, he should accept. The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) then mounted and so did Abu Talha ride, and I was seating myself behind Abu Talha. Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) moved in the narrow street of Khaibar (and we rode so close to each other in the street) that my knee touched the leg of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him). (A part of the) lower garment of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) slipped from his leg and I could see the whiteness of the leg of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him). As he entered the habitation he called: Allah-o-Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). Khaibar is ruined. And when we get down in the valley of a people evil is the morning of the warned ones. He repeated it thrice. In the meanwhile the people went out for their work, and said: By Allah, Muhammad (has come). Abd al-'Aziz or some of our com- panions said: Muhammad and the army (have come). He said: We took it (the territory of Khaibar) by force, and there were gathered the prisoners of war. There came Dihya and he said: Messenger of Allah, bestow upon me a girl ont of the prisones. He said: Go and get any girl. He made a choice for Safiyya daughter of Huyayy (b. Akhtab). There came a person to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) and said: Apostle of Allah, you have bestowed Safiyya bint Huyayy, the chief of Quraiza and al-Nadir, upon Dihya and she is worthy of you only. He said: Call him along with her. So he came along with her. When Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) saw her he said: Take any other woman from among the prisoners. He (the narrator) said: He (the Holy Prophet) then granted her emancipation and married her. Thabit said to him: Abu Hamza, how much dower did he (the Holy Prophet) give to her? He said: He granted her freedom and then married her. On the way Umm Sulaim embellished her and then sent her to him (the Holy Prophet) at night. Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) appeared as a bridegroom in the morning. He (the Holy Prophet) said: He who has anything (to eat) should bring that. Then the cloth was spread. A person came with cheese, another came with dates, and still another came with refined butter, and they prepared hais and that was the wedding feast of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him)

Book 008, Number 3326:

This hadith has been narrated through another chain of transmitters on the authority of Anas that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) emancipated Safiyya, and her emancipation was treated as her wedding gift, and in the hadith transmitted by Mu'adh on the authority of his father (the words are):" He (the Holy Prophet) married Safiyya and bestowed her emancipation as her wedding gift."

Abu Musa reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said about one who emancipated a slave woman, and then married her, that for him there are two rewards.

Book 008, Number 3328:

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was sitting behind Abu Talha on the Day of Khaibar and my feet touched the foot of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him), and we came (to the people of Khaibar) when the sun had risen and they had driven out their cattle, and had themselves come out with their axes, large baskets and hatchets, and they said: (Here come) Muhammad and the army. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Khaibar is ruined. Verily when we get down in the valley of a people, evil is the morning of the warned ones (al-Qur'an, xxxvii. 177). Allah, the Majestic and the Glorious, defeated them (the inhabitants of Khaibar), and there fell to the lot of Dihya a beautiful girl, and Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) got her in exchange of seven heads, and then entrusted her to Umm Sulaim so that she might embellish her and prepare her (for marriage) with him. He (the narrator) said: He had been under the impression that he had said that so that she might spend her period of 'Iddah in her (Umm Sulaim's) house. (The woman) was Safiyya daughter of Huyayy. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) arranged the wedding feast consisting of dates, cheese, and refined butter, and pits were dug and tiers were set in them dining cloths, and there was brought cheese and refined butter, and these were placed there. And the people ate to their fill, and they said: We do not know whether he (the Holy Prophet) had married her (as a free woman), or as a slave woman. They said: If he (the Holy Prophet) would make her wear the veil, then she would be a (free married) woman, and if he would not make her wear the veil, then she should be a slave woman. When he intended to ride, he made her wear the veil and she sat on the hind part of the camel; so they came to know that he had married her. As they approached Medina, Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) drove (his ride) quickly and so we did. 'Adba' (the name of Allah's Apostle's camel) stumbled and Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) fell down and she (Radrat Safiyya: also fell down. He (the Holy Prophet) stood up and covered her. woman looked towards her and said: May Allah keep away the Jewess! He (the narrator) said: I said: Aba Hamza, did Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) really fall down? He said: Yes, by Allah, he in fact fell down. Anas said: I also saw the wedding feast of Zainab, and he (the Holy Prophet) served bread and meat to the people, and made them eat to their heart's content, and he (the Holy Prophet) sent me to call people, and as he was free (from the ceremony) he stood up and I followed him. Two persons were left and they were busy in talking and did not get out (of the apartment). He (the Holy Prophet) then proceeded towards (the apartments of) his wives. He greeted with as-Salamu 'alaikum to every one of them and said: Members of the household, how are you? They said: Messenger of Allah, we are in good state 'How do you find your family? He would say: In good state. When he was free from (this work of exchanging greetings) he came back, and I also came back along with him. And as he reached the door, (he found) that the two men were still busy in talking. And when they saw him having returned, they stood up and went out; and by Allah! I do not know whether I had informed him, or there was a revelation to him (to the affect) that they had gone. He (the Holy Prophet) then came back and I also returned along with him, and as he put his step on the threshold of his door he hung a curtain between me and him, and (it was on this occasion) that Allah revealed this verse: (" O you who believe), do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to 'you" (xxxiii. 53).

Book 008, Number 3329:

Anas, (Allah be pleased with him) reported: Safiyya (Allah be pleased with her) fell to the lot of Dihya in the spoils of war, and they praised her in the presence of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: We have not seen the like of her among the captives of war. He sent (a messenger) to Dihya and he gave him whatever he demanded. He then sent her to my mother and asked her to embellish her. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) then got out of Khaibar until when he was on the other side of it, he halted, and a tent was pitched for him. When it was morning Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: He who has surplus of provision with him should bring that to us. Some persons would bring the surplus of dates, and the other surplus of mush of barley until there became a heap of bals. They began to eat the hais and began to drink out of the pond which had the water of rainfall in it and which was situated by their side. Anas said that that constituted the wedding feast of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him). He (further) said: We proceeded until we saw the walls of Medina, and we were delighted. We made our mounts run quickly and Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) also made his mount run quickly. And Safiyya (Allah be pleased with her) was at his back, and Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) had seated her behind him. The camel of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) stumbled and he (the Holy Prophet) fell down and she also fell down. And none among the people was seeing him and her, until Allah's Messeuger (may peace be upon him) stood up and he covered her, and we came to him and he said: We have received no injury. We entered Medina and there came out the young ladies of the household. They saw her (hadrat Safiyya) and blamed her for falling down.

THE DOWER

Book 008, Number 3316:

Sahl b. Sa'd al-Sa'idi (Allah be pleased with him) reported: A woman came to Allah's Messenger. (may peace be upon him) and said: Messerbger of Allah, I have come to you to entrust myself to you (you may contract my marriage with anyone at your discretion). Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) saw her and cast a glance at her from head to foot. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) then lowered his head. When the woman saw that he had made no decision in regard to her, she sat down. There stood up a person from amongst his companions and said: Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you have no need of her. He (the Holy Prophet) said: is there anything with you (which you con give as a dower)? He said: No, Messenger of Allah, by Allah I have nothing. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Go to your people (family) and see if you can find something. He returned and said: I have found nothing. The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: See even if it is an Iron ring. He went and returned and said: No, by God, not even an iron ring, but only this lower garment of mine (Sahl said that he had no upper garment), half of which (I am prepared to part with) for her. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: How can your lower garment serve your purpose, for it you wear it, she would not be able to make any use of it and if she wears it there would not be anything on you? The man sat down and as the sitting prolonged he stood up (in disappointment) and as he was going back Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) commanded (him) to be called back, and as he came, he said to him: Do you know any part of the Qur'an? He said: I know such and such surahs (and he counted them). whereupon he said: Can you recite them from heart (from your memory)? He said: Yes, whereupon he (Allah's Messenger) said: Go, I have given her to you in marriage for the part of the Qur'an which you know.

Book 008, Number 3317:

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Sahl b. Sa'd with a minor alteration of words, but the hadith transmitted through Za'idah (the words are that the Holy Prophet) said: Go, I have married her to you, and you teach her something of the Qur'an.

Book 008, Number 3318:

Abu Salama b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported: I asked 'A'isha, the wife of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him): What is the amount of dower of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him)? She said: It was twelve 'uqiyas and one nash. She said: Do you know what is al-nash? I said: No. She said: It is half of uqiya, and it amounts to five hundred dirhams, and that was the dower given by Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) to his wives.

Book 008, Number 3319:

Anas b. Thereupon he said: Allah's Messenger, I have married a woman for a date-stone's weight of gold. He said: God bless you! Hold a wedding feast, even if only with a sheep.

Book 008, Number 3320:

Anas b. Malik (Allah be pleasedwith him) reported that 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Auf (Allah be pleased with him) married during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) for a nawat weight of gold and the messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said to him: Give a feast even with a sheep.

Book 008, Number 3321:

Anas b. Malik (Allah be pleased with him) reported that 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Auf (Allah be pleased with him) married a woman for a date-stone's weight of gold and Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said to him: Hold a wedding feast, even if only with a sheep.

Book 008, Number 3322:

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Humaid with the same chain of transmitters except (with this minor alteration of words) that 'Abd al-Rahman said:" I married a woman."

Book 008, Number 3323:

Abd al-Rahman b. 'Auf (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) saw the signs of the happiness of wedding in me, and I said: I have married a woman of the Ansar. He said: How much Mahr have you paid? I said: For a date-stone weight of gold. And in the hadith transmitted by Ishaq (it is): (nawat weight) of gold.

Book 008, Number 3324:

Anas b. Mas'ud) reported: We were on an expedition with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and we had no women with us. We said: Should we not have ourselves castrated? He (the Holy Prophet) forbade us to do so He then granted us permission that we should contract temporary marriage for a stipulated period giving her a garment, and 'Abdullah then recited this verse: 'Those who believe do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Allah does not like trangressers" (al-Qur'an, v. 87).

Book 008, Number 3244:

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Jarir with the same chain of transmitters and he also recited this (above-mentioned verse) to us, but he did not say that 'Abdullah recited it.

Book 008, Number 3245:

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Isma'il with the same chain of transmitters (and the words are):" We were young, so we said: Allah's Messenger, should we not have ourselves castrated? But he (the narrator) did not say; We were on an expedition."

Book 008, Number 3246:

Jabir b. 'Abdullah and Salama b. al-Akwa' said: There came to us the proclaimer of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) has granted you permission to benefit yourselves, i. e. to contract temporary marriage with women.

Book 008, Number 3247:

Salama b. al. Akwa' and Jabir b. Abdullah reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) came to us and permitted us to contract temporary marriage.

Book 008, Number 3248:

Ibn Uraij reported: 'Ati' reported that jibir b. Abdullah came to perform 'Umra, and we came to his abode, and the people asked him about different things, and then they made a mention of temporary marriage, whereupon he said: Yes, we had been benefiting ourselves by this temporary marriage during the lifetime of theHoly Prophet (may peace be upon him) and during the tinie of Abi! Bakr and 'Umar.

Book 008, Number 3249:

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: We contracted temporary marriage giving a handful of (tales or flour as a dower during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and durnig the time of Abu Bakr until 'Umar forbade it in the case of 'Amr b. Huraith.

Book 008, Number 3250:

Abu Nadra reported: While I was in the company of Jabir b. Abdullah, a person came to him and said that Ibn 'Abbas and Ibn Zubair differed on the two types of Mut'as (Tamattu' of Hajj 1846 and Tamattu' with women), whereupon Jabir said: We used to do these two during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him). Umar then forbade us to do them, and so we did not revert to them.

Book 008, Number 3251:

Iyas b. Salama reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) gave sanction for contracting temporary marriage for three nights in the year of Autas 1847 and then forbade it.

Book 008, Number 3252:

Sabra Juhanni reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) permitted temporary marriage for us. So I and another person went out and saw a woman of Bana 'Amir, who was like a young long-necked she-camel. We presented ourselves to her (for contracting temporary marriage), whereupon she said: What dower would you give me? I said: My cloak. And my companion also said: My cloak. And the cloak of-my companion was superior to my cloak, but I was younger than he. So when she looked at the cloak of my companion she liked it, and when she cast a glance at me I looked more attractive to her. She then said: Well, you and your cloak are sufficient for me. I remained with her for three nights, and then Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: He who has any such woman with whom he had contracted temporary marriage, he should let her off.

Book 008, Number 3253:

Rabi' b. Sabra reported that his father went on an expedition with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) during the Victory of Mecca, and we stayed there for fifteen days (i. e. for thirteen full days and a day and a night), and Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) permitted us to contract temporary marriage with women. So I and another person of my tribe went out, and I was more handsome than he, whereas he was almost ugly. Each one of us had a cloaks, My cloak was worn out, whereas the cloak of my cousin was quite new. As we reached the lower or the upper side of Mecca, we came across a young woman like a young smart long-necked she-camel. We said: Is it possible that one of us may contract temporary marriage with you? She said: What will you give me as a dower? Each one of us spread his cloak. She began to cast a glance on both the persons. My companion also looked at her when she was casting a glance at her side and he said: This cloak of his is worn out, whereas my cloak is quite new. She, however, said twice or thrice: There is no harm in (accepting) this cloak (the old one). So I contracted temporary marriage with her, and I did not come out (of this) until Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) declared it forbidden.

Book 008, Number 3254:

Rabi' b. S'abra al-jahanni reported on the authority of his father. We went with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) to Mecca during the year of Victory and he narrated like this a hadith transmitted by Bishr (the previous one) but with this addition:" She said: Can it be possible?" And it is also mentioned in it:" He said: The cloak of this (man) is old and worn out."

Book 008, Number 3255:

Sabra al-Juhanni reported on the authority of his father that while he was with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon hm) he said: 0 people, I had permitted you to contract temporary marriage with women, but Allah has forbidden it (now) until the Day of Resurrection. So he who has any (woman with this type of marriage contract) he should let her off, and do not take back anything you have given to then (as dower).

Book 008, Number 3256:

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of 'Abd al-'Aziz b 'Umar with the same chain of transmitters, and he said: I saw Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) standing between the pillar and the gate (of the Ka'ba) and he was relating a hadith as narrated by Ibn Numair.

Book 008, Number 3257:

'Abd al-Malik b. Rabi' b. Sabraal-Juhanni reported on the authority of his father who narrated it on the authority of his father (i e. 'Abd al-Malik's grandfather, Sabura al-juhanni): Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) permitted us to contract temporary marriage in the Year of Victory, as we entered Mecce, and we did come out of it but he forbade us to do it.

Book 008, Number 3258:

Sabra b. Ma'bad reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) permitted his Companions to contract temporary marriage with women in the Year of Victory. So I and a friend of mine from Banu Sulaim went out, until we found a young woman of Banu Amir who was like a young she-camel having a long neck. We made proposal to her for contracting temporary marriage with us, and presented to her our cloaks (as dower). She began to look and found me more handsome than my friend, but found the cloak of my friend more beautiful than my cloak. She thought in her wind for a while, but then preferred me to my friend. So I remained with her for three (nights), and then Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) commanded us to part with them (such women).

Book 008, Number 3259:

Rabi' b. Sabra reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade on the Day of Victory to contract temporary marriage with women. Sabra that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade to contracf temporary marriage with women at the time of Victory, and that his father had contracted the marriage for two red cloaks.

Book 008, Number 3261:

'Urwa b. Zabair reported that 'Abdullah b. Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) stood up (and delivered an address) in Mecca saying: Allah has made blind the hearts of some people as He has deprived them of eyesight that they give religious verdict in favour of temporary marriage, while he was alluding to a person (Ibn 'Abbas). Ibn Abbas called him and said: You are an uncouth person, devoid of sense. By my life, Mut'a was practised during the lifetime of the leader of the pious (he meant Allah's Messenger, may peace be upon him), and Ibn Zubair said to him: just do it yourselves, and by Allah, if you do that I will stone you with your stones. Ibn Shihab said. Khalid b. Muhajir b. Saifullah informed me: While I was sitting in the company of a person, a person came to him and he asked for a religious verdict about Mut'a and he permitted him to do it. Ibn Abu 'Amrah al-Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Be gentle. It was permitted in- the early days of Islam, (for one) who was driven to it under the stress of necessity just as (the eating of) carrion and the blood and flesh of swine and then Allah intensified (the commands of) His religion and prohibited it (altogether). Ibn Shihab reported: Rabi' b. Sabra told me that his father (Sabra) said: I contracted temporary marriage with a woman of Banu 'Amir for two cloaks during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) ; then he forbade us to do Mut'a. Ibn Shihab said: I heard Rabi' b. Sabra narrating it to Umar b. AbiTalib reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) prohibited on the Day of Khaibar the contracting of temporary marriage with women and the eating of the flesh of domestic asses.

Book 008, Number 3264:

Malik narrated this hadith on the authority of the same chain of trans- witters that 'Ali b. Abil Talib said to a person: You are a person led astray; Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade us (to do Mut'a), as is stated In the hadith transmitted on the authority of Yahya b. Malik.

Book 008, Number 3265:

Muhammad b. 'Ali narrated on the authority of his father 'Ali that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) on the Day of Khaibar prohibited for ever the contracting of temporary marriage and eating of the flesh of the domestic asses.

Book 008, Number 3266:

'Ali (Allah be pleased with him) heard that Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) gave some relaxation in connection with the contracting of temporary marriage, whereupon he said: Don't be hasty (in your religious verdict), Ibn 'Abbas, for Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) on the Day of Khaibar prohibited for ever the doing of it-And eating of the flesh of domestic asses.

Book 008, Number 3267:

'Ali (Allah be pleased with him) said to Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) on the Day of Khaibar forbade forever the contracting of temporary marriage and the eating of the flesh of domestic asses.
