Hello, everyone! I'm Mari from Arcadian Home blog, a great online place to find lots of interior design inspiration including fabulous lighting ideas from bathroom light fixtures to buffet lamps. I'm so happy to be visiting with you here at the lovely Modernity Collective with a guest post about stunning modern bathrooms.

I've pulled together some of my favorite sleek modern designs to inspire your dreams of creating a stunning bath for your home. Please enjoy!

Sleek and stylish, this modern bathroom is a stunning mix of wood and stone. The narrow unframed mirror intersects beautifully with a long inset wood shelf. No clutter here with decorative objects kept to a bare minimumóthe perfect design decision.

Chocolate brown and pure white make for a stunning color combination in this thoroughly modern and totally functional bath. I love the gorgeous mix of tiles used throughout the space.

With an appealing Asian feel, this bathroom retreat is a beautiful blend of sleek modern fixtures, warm wood elements and glass tiles in cool gray.

Against a gray honed limestone backsplash and charcoal bedazzled walls, this seamless blue limestone cabinet and sink is quite dramatic. A single contemporary glass pendant light in amber glass hangs on either side of the sink.

Taking open concept living in an unexpected direction, this airy bedroom/bathroom is light-filled and lovely. With a nod to practically, the carpeted bedroom space gives way to stone in the bath.

A pure white bath is stunning with chunky built-in open storage and large vessel sink. A tall slender mirror is unexpected but works well in the space. Creamy fabric baskets add a slightly rustic feel.

This stylish modern bathroom has a decidedly masculine feel imparted by dark wood cabinets, sleek mirrors and mini pendant lights.

Today's final stunning bath is a glitzy powder room from designer Jamie Herzlinger. Silvery mosaic tiles run from the floor up the walls and onto the ceiling. Furniture with Built-in Book Storage

Cloud City.

Tomás Saraceno exhibit, entitled “Cloud Cities,” consists of twenty bubbles suspended in a hangar in Germany. Many of the spheres are large enough to be entered by visitors who may bounce, roll, jump. lay, & imagine themselves in a different world whilst in these transparent bubbles. A criss-crossing network of cables keeps the giant balloons aloft. Guests feel as they are floating. I'd like this exhibit to come to America!

Barcode House

Can you see why it's called this??

David Jameson Architect Inc. was definitely inspired by the actual look of barcodes for this house located in Washington D.C. The steel bars down the side reflect that of an actual barcode. The are along the front facade of the building as well.

Lots of light entering this building! Not very private either. I think this would be a better business building rather than residential.

Post-Halloween Skull Art

Here is the work of British artist James Hopkins who is currently based in London. These are in his Vanitas series transforming every day objects on shelves into incredible artwork in the shape of human skulls. Too incredible for words.

Film Friday - Halloween Edition

The video this week comes from the band Neon Indian. This music video for their cyber-track "Polish Girl," off their new album Era Extraña, incorporates light painting to tell the story of a disjointed personal journey.

"Polish Girl" was directed by Tim Nackashi and produced in collaboration between The Creators Project, Neon Indian, and Mom + Pop Music.

This is related to my Halloween because I'm going to be a Polish Future Girl!!! haha ;-) I'm already a polish girl so the futuristic part is just what I need achieve now! Hi, I'm Susi and I write for Design Shuffle, a social media site that brings together designers from around the world to share projects and find inspiration. I love visiting design blogs like The Modern Life for inspiration, so I'm very happy to be guest blogging here today. My post is all about modern lighting and how it has a strong graphic look that works well in today's interior designs in modern and contemporary spaces. I love all the strong geometric shapes in modern lighting.

The I Lucci Argentati suspension light is more sculpture than fixture. This free form shaped hanging light would look amazing in a dining room.

Black pendant lights offer a graphic punch in this predominately white contemporary space. The black relates nicely to the dark floors. Love the reflective gold inside the shades.

The Phrena lamp is made from folded Tyvek material but has the feeling of layers of chiffon. Gorgeous as a table lamp or pendant light.

A round or circular light adds a nice graphic pop above a rectangular table. It's always nice to mix geometric shapes in a room for dynamic interest.

Drum shades on pendants are a great geometric shape for lighting in modern living room designs. Adding circles and cut outs to the drum shade creates more graphic impact.

The Tango light by Corbett has a big graphic impact with cut out lines in the bronze globe. This pendant light would create amazing shadows on the walls.

Specialty lighting is essential in kitchen designs. Using half clear glass and half white glass gives a nice graphic quality to this sleek industrial style kitchen light. The globe shape adds curving lines to the sleek space.

Black and white stripes give this pendant light a very graphic look. Shades with geometric patterns, like stripes or dots, have a modern graphic look that works well in a contemporary interior design.

You've never seen shoes like this before...

I guarantee you have never seen footwear concepts like that of Brazilian designer Andreia Chaves...

Chaves thinks beyond what is normal & breaks into an abstract world of fashion that has never existed before... until now.

"“The Invisible Shoe” has a mirrored surface, creating a deceptively obscured optical effect with every step taken. The chameleon-like façade blends in perfectly with any environment."

I particularly like what Chaves calls the "Naked" version of the Invisible Shoe.

I love the geometric body structure.

"“The Prism Shoe” is a fascinating structural design that by itself looks like an intricate work of origami – casting beautiful kaleidoscopic shadows against the ground. Here we can clearly see Chaves’ chaotic - yet orderly - paradox coming to life through her shoe designs, resulting in dramatic silhouette."

The “Form & Texture Shoe” exhibits a disciplined study of form and material while keeping just enough chaos to stay interesting. The contradiction here is the seemingly indestructible framework fused with the disorderly arranged leather and sycamore wood cubes. The contours create a theatrical statement nothing short of impressive.

"Chaves finds it thrilling how each particular material has the power to completely change someone’s vision about a design. An example for this, she sites, is the idea of a sandal made with simple Velcro strips (see “THE VELCRO SHOE” below) holding the foot, where you can easily change its shape, redesigning it and creating sculptures in air."

Here is a fascinating animation video by Daniel Binns called "Control" - a short film about Panic.

The sharp edges and geometric animation is a unique feature I haven't seen with any cartoon before. I'd like to see more of this kind of animation by Binns.

Equilibrium Bookcase

This unique furniture piece by Malagana is sure to surprise & amuse! It's modules can be stacked on top of one another without the use of tools or hardware & can be put together in less than 5 minutes. Equilibrium can hold up to 160 lbs of weight & is organized in a natural tilt position which eliminates the need for bookends. Amazing.

I still cannot comprehend how these work!! I would want to see it in real life. Incredible though & I love the look of it!

Twenty-one large triangles animated by Melbourne, throughout Federation Square. MÖBIUS is a sculpture that can be configured into many cyclical patterns and behave as though it is eating itself, whilst sinking into the ground. The result is an optical illusion and a time-lapse of people interacting with the sculpture and moving through Melbourne's landmark location throughout the day. MÖBIUS was animated over two weeks Friday, Saturday & Sunday between the 6th - 20th of May 2011.

Wall-less House

The Wall-less House by Tezuka Architects

In 2000, Tokyo based architects created this 2,650 square three-story home in Setagaya-ku, one of the 23 special districts of Tokyo, Japan. The best part of the house is the ground floor level with no walls!

“This large site in a dense residential neighborhood provides a rare opportunity to open the house completely to the landscape and environment, like a retreat villa in the countryside."

"Occupying only 20% of the site, the house leaves ample space around it for a truly open, continuous space, a wall-less house."

"Using a lightweight steel, load bearing frame structure, the axial loads are distributed through only a utility core in the center and two thin columns, therefore opening the living space to the outside completely on all sides."

"The floors thus float in air, surrounded by the trees for greenery and privacy.”

Everything about this looks amazing to me..... MINUS the bug factor. Not sure how many insects or bugs are in Tokyo, but that's the only issue I would have with this open-air home.

Plantbook

I'm visiting Portland right now & it's quite the environmental friendly location! I'm loving every minute so far.

Makes me wonder if a concept such as this oxygenated notebook could become a reality one day. Especially in Portland! :)

The Plantbook has a battery charging system that is inspired by the water-soaking abilities of the bamboo!

The designers, Seunggi Baek & Hyerim Kim, explain, “The system uses an external water tank, hence the Plantbook continuously absorbs water when soaking it in water and generates electrolysis using power stored in a solar heat plate installed on the top. In this process, it is operated using hydrogen as energy source and discharges oxygen. If you put it into a water bottle while you don’t use the laptop, it automatically charges a battery and discharges oxygen. A leaf-shaped strap hanging on the top is made with silicon. It plays a role of a hand ring and a green LED indicates when the battery is charged. Using this LED, users can check how much spare capacity the batter has.”

Yana K - exclusive interview & preview!

I had the privilege of attending a mixer the other night for the preview of a new line by an incredible designer...

Yana K.

Yana K (pictured above in one of her own pieces) is bringing her unique designs to Las Vegas! Originally from Russia, she has now relocated to the Los Angeles area where she opened her first boutique in 2003. I was honored to be able to sit down with her and ask her a few questions about her goals and her line.

Yana is determined to bring new fashion to Las Vegas and expose this melting pot of a city to something brand new and exciting! She wants to "test the limits." Inspired by generational businesses such as Coco Chanel, Yana says, “it's all about the perfect time, at the perfect place, in the perfect moment.”

One goal for her line is to revisit the past in fashion and put her own twist to it. Yana mentioned that she wants to bring the 60s & 70s retro look back and create designs that make it fashionable to wear a maxi dress to a club but most importantly for ladies to feel glamorous all the time. Her mission is for all women to feel like celebrities every single time they go out, to feel as if they are starring in their own movie.

Yana is proud to have her name representing her art. "At the end of the day, it's your name." She says that in the past ten years, her clothing line has matured to what it is now. "Longevity is the key. Yana K will be here 20 years from now!” she says with strong passion. She is a perfectionist and this is her craft. Fashion is a lifestyle for Yana, and her goal is to make women feel more beautiful, feel more passionate, and exude more love.

I think Las Vegas is ready for this love Yana is offering! <3

As of right now in the Las Vegas area, Yana K's clothes can be purchased at Trump International Tower, C-Level, & Scoop stores.
