Avenue Q-Boulder Dinner Theater

First, you have to understand that this is not a family show. Avenue Q is a pervy, hilarious, honest look at human, monster, and puppet nature. Avenue Q is currently running at the Boulder Dinner Theater until November 3rd, 2012. It is a politically incorrect, but honest show about people, their beliefs, and life after college. Having gone to tons of shows at the Boulder Dinner Theater I wasn't really sure what to expect. They are slowing adding in new talent as they have been working with a wonderful group of actors for quite awhile. The problem with working with the same group of people is the possibility of type casting. Avenue Q has allowed this wonderful core group of performers a chance to challenge themselves and grow with a show that provides material that isn't "safe" They rise to the challenge and quite frankly exceeded my expectations. This is an amazing show! One of the best shows that I've seen at the Boulder Dinner Theater in the 8 years that I have been going there. The first thing you notice when you turn the around the bend into Estes Park is the sparkle of sunlight on water. Lake Estes is part of the natural framework of the town. The mountain range that make up Rocky Mountain National Park is the other part of the frame.

This is a doable day trip from Denver. It's located two hours away, it is a huge stop on the tourist
list. But, as a local, I love going up to Estes Park. On this trip we hung out at the Lake.

I had a friend who was married in this hotel. It was a lovely Scottish wedding, but, I was slightly creeped out by the hotel. It is gorgeous and you should check it out, just ignore the ghosts.

Is a long standing tradition here in Denver. It takes place over Labor Day Weekend

and it signals Colorado's mental shift to the ski season. If you live here (or any place with skiing)

there is a point when the summer feels too long and those of us who enjoy winter sports start pining for the winter ski season to begin. My point was around July 23-the day before my birthday. It was too hot this summer, too much of everything. I started to long for snow, cold nights, boots and Snowboarding.

But, SNIAGRAB really is the moment when you know the season is just around the corner.

It's a great time to purchase discounted ski passes and gear. It's still going on. Swing by Sports Authority on Broadway and pick up some stuff. See you on the slopes!

In my wonderings around Denver I made a wonderful discovery. A small wooden book shelf filled with books that can be taken and enjoyed. People are also encouraged to donate books to the library. I love to read. To say that I'm a huge book nerd is an understatement. There is not enough time to read all of the books that are out there. What a wonderful way to connect people with literature. Books of all shapes and sizes, in different genres are available to you. Maybe you would be interested in installing a Little Free Library in your neighborhood?

USA Pro Cycling Challenge 2012 DENVER

I love professional cycling for its simplicity. A really fit and skinny athlete, a bike, shaved legs, adrenaline, a helmet, and mental focus equals professional cycling. Last year the USA Pro Cycling Challenge debuted in Colorado to amazing reviews, national and international response. The crowds were amazing!!! The Challenge begins on Monday, August 20, 2012 in Durango. Check out the website to see where the different stages will be so that you can watch the race. I have been thinking about launching a fashion component to this blog for awhile. Have you noticed that Denver and most of the center of the U.S. is almost always forgotten in fashion magazines. Denver does get mentioned a lot in magazines. But, hardly ever for fashion. So, I will begin finding fashionable peeps to highlight in this blog! Denver Ciclovia 2012

What is a Ciclovia?? It is an opportunity to create a space for riding bikes throughout an urban area. In Denver this will take place for the second time in the Park Hill Neighborhood. Wikipedia notes that the concept originated in Bogata, Columbia. What a wonderful way to get people to ride, walk, take their children out and engage with one another. This is the second year for this event. I will be checking it out tomorrow. It should be fun. Denver Ciclovia

Quick Update:
It was great watching everyone ride their cruiser bikes around. Adults, children, entire families! It was great. If you get chance and there is one in your city-go! My mom and I had a fantastic time. I did wish there were more food trucks though:) Maybe next year.

I didn't get a chance to go last year, but will be going this year! Will let you know

how it goes. The website is great because it discusses the history of why we didn't have a fair in Denver. Also, they list what bus to take to get to the fair (the #48)
