Brazilian Food

So I tried out a Brazilian food place with one of my best friends yesterday. Uni is about to start again so I guess that's a good excuse for consuming so much food & spending a lot of money:) The food there was delicious & bearably salty. I tried chicken heart for the first time. I'm not too sure if it would have been better for me to have not asked what it was before I popped it in my mouth.. it was quite interesting- not too chewy, not too bloody:)

For dessert we had a Banoffi tart. The centre was a rich sort of caramel fudge thing (excuse my non food expertise:) and the tart was very yummy too - very cinnamon flavoured. I would go there again for sure :)

Dances with Wolves was a very good movie- kind of like the Last Samurai but about Sioux Indians.

I am currently watching Boris Karloff's Frankenstein while typing this blogpost; I really admire Karloff's works.

I found each and everyone of them worth watching so far except Gomorrah (supposedly unconventional- more like slow paced)

Noteworthy food I have consumed this month:
1) Israeli Food: Homemade hummus served with falafel and warm pita bread.
2) Wasabi Icecream- an interesting combo but I always associate wasabi with savoury foods so maybe I'll try it at the same time as the main..
3) Pinacolada & Mojito flavoured mentos

So I have been away from the net for a week or so.. no need to fret, Jeshimi is back again for a little while. Here is another unfinished sketch from me. I did this one night after dinner and decided to use the 72 set of Derwent coloured pencils instead of biro. I started off with an orange coloured pencil then contrasted it with blue and then from there I added green and red to bring out the textures and details in different areas of the portrait. The last colour I used was yellow as it turned out to be a good highlighting colour.

No idea what I'm going to do next with this but I'm happy to just hang unfinished works because to me, it's more important to stop and think about what could have been improved or what new things can be done next. My aim is not to force myself to finish an artwork to the likeness of another but to capture memories and thoughts at the time into the painting/ artwork.

NB: Colours and textures are not 100% accurate in these photos - especially the last one ;)

Save it for a Rainy Day

February so far: Started working at the music studio. Lots of work and preparation involved. I got this lovely white latticed skirt from Kmart two days ago. I tried on a size 8 but the skirt was too butt skimming to be a work appropriate so I bought a size ten. I should adjust the waist for a better fit sometime soon. The skirt is also very sheer so I was thinking of adding a light grey lining to it but decided to just wear thick tights underneath- not the best idea because it was a very hot day. I have found that Kmart sells prettier clothes than Target and that Target sells much better quality clothes. Anyway enough chitter chatter for the day :)

Went to a fabulous Chinese Gourmet place with my family a few days ago. How adorable are these sesame filled Piggies?! Ahh! <3

My favourite films that I have seen in the past month are:
Children of Men (set in a post apocalyptic world)
Heavenly Creatures (two teenage girls with an obsessive friendship that leads to an unspeakable crime)
The Colour Purple ( A poignant Steven Spielberg film about a young African American woman) I love this film!

Found some cool apps for my Iphone4s. Luminance is one of them and Instagram being the other. I like using luminance because it doesn't force me to use a square frame. Let me know if there are better filter apps~ (preferably free ones)

Twenty more minutes before I sleep. Fatigue is setting in but I must wait. Few more days of training left. Went to the library to borrow some DVDs today:

Serpico, Fatal Attraction, The Departed, Children of Men, Europa Europa, Fitzcarraldo, The Colour Purple, The Lives of Others, The Science of Sleep, and The Heavenly Creatures.

One of my favourites out of my last batch of movies was The Great Escape, 1963 ( 4 expert escapees attempt ways out of a new Russian prisoner camp).

Day 3 Chicken Vogue

I had the most delicious lightly toasted chicken avocado sandwich today. No matter how hungry I am, I still find a moment or two to take a photo of my food. I guess it's a new found habit. Played a new card game with my sisters called "6 takes". I quite like that game. When I was staying overseas at my aunt and uncle's model home, I stumbled across the Fashion Book, In Vogue and Stylist. I've seen them in a lot of interior design features and they look great on any shelf. They're mine now because their sons don't want em.

Blueberry Ade, the blueberries were frozen in ice.

Fresh waffles with homemade Lemon Blueberry ice cream, Green Tea ice cream, and surprisingly sweet strawberries & kiwis.

Black sesame ice cream (homemade) tasted like peanut butter :|

Pretty interior & my not so functional bag I rushed out of the door with. I wished that it would fit my lunchbox & bottle at the same time. oh well.

Second day of work training (2 down 13 to go). Our head trainer is hilarious. I don't think I've laughed in continuous 5 minute intervals for 8 hours before. The trainees are very lovely too. The most notable being the Kiwis from Christchurch. It's one thing to hear about how they pronounce things differently but it really is another thing to converse with them. They're amusing. Everything seems so funny nowadays. I blame it on fatigue. But really they're soo cute if you know what I mean.

7.30pm, dinner & Sherlock Holmes 2 at the cinemas with my sisters. Fantastic. Nothing else has really happened today seeing as my whole morning and afternoon has been taken. Oh and sales right now... why do I have to be such a generic shoe size? Observing my finger nails at this very moment... I cut them a day or two ago. Now they've grown back again. Ridiculous.

So here's a low down of my favourite films of the past who knows when (in no particular order):

All about Eve, 1950 ( Check out the thriller 'Whatever happened to Baby Jane?' if you like Bette Davis)

Nine Queens, 2000 ( Two con mans selling counterfeit stamps. The ending is really good)

Delictassen, 1991 ( French humour set in post apocalyptic France: Butcher hires man. Butcher's daughter falls in love with hired man. Daughter tries to stop father from chopping hired man for meat.)

Scott Pilgrim vs the World, 2010 ( Funny romcom: Michael Cera has to defeat a girl's seven evil exes to be with her)

For those that don't know, www.imdb.com is a very good film website.

Bride of Frankenstein

Finally found time to sit down and sketch. Here is a very rough sketch of the 1935 Bride of Frankenstein that I drew after dinner and a shower. I am up to the second last step. Biro is one of my favourite mediums. My technique is very rusty so I'll finish it another day =)

NB: fix ear, add neck stitches, reshape facial features, redefine hair and volume.

I have a lot of movies to watch this holidays- just realised I borrowed the 1993 version of the Heartbreak Kid instead of the 1972 version.

Spent some time with my old high school friends at a beautiful Chinese Restaurant and a Macaroon Patisserie. In the afternoon I met up with a good friend of mine to walk her friend's dog and watch Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining". It is based on Stephen King's novel and my friend told me that the snow cabin episode from the Simpsons was a parody of it too :) The film score for The Shining is brilliant!

The day after, I spent some time shopping with my mum and then we met up with my little sister for lunch at our favourite sushi bar.
