A man who runs a snooker club in Faisalabad, Pakistan and has got no sponsors and no facilities has recently won the world snooker championship league. His love for snooker is what pulled him and today he is a proud champion. He worked really hard and finally he is getting rewarded. Muhammad Asif made not only his family and country proud, but he is an epitome for all those people who want to do a lot of things in life, but they haven’t got resources to do them. ROAD TO FINAL

The tournament started in Sofia, Bulgaria and it was a good start for Muhammad Asif. He was quite dominant from the start and won all his matches comfortably. He was playing his natural game and won his matches against all good players. He defeated Mer Alkojah of Syria 6-2 in the quarter-finals with the frame scores of 55-53, 50-63, 41-72, 78-50, 73-36, 99-26, 64-54, 82-40. He advanced to the quarter finals by defeating Wael Talaat of Egypt 5-2 in the pre-quarters. He continued his sublime performance and defeated lex Borg of Malta by 7-1 to reach the final to become the first Pakistani player to play the world cup final since 2003. He won the final, which was a nail baiting match and both the players were up for the occasion, but Asif played incredibly and won the snooker final. It is a huge win not only for Muhammad Asif, but for his country as well, where snooker is not that popular, and this win will definitely attract people to play and promote the sport.
I congratulate Muhammad Asif for making our country proud. The government should look toward all the sports equally and should make snooker training clubs, where qualified coaches can polish raw talent, and Pakistan can win many such championships. We should encourage all the people who are participating in various sports all around the globe, as our encouragement can make them perform better. Muhammad Asif has achieved a big feat and many players will continue doing that if our government will sponsor them, encourage them by all means and if we support them wholeheartedly.

Faisalabad to have housing colony for widows and orphans

The Faisalabad Development Trust (FDT) will construct 200-500 houses of two marla each for the deserving poor widows and orphans.

This was decided in a meeting of the FDT Board of Trustees held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Syed Tahir Hussain here on Tuesday. The meeting said that the survey for providing suitable state land to the trust for the project would be completed in a week. The meeting decided to frame the by-laws of the proposed colony.

The meeting agreed with the suggestion of trustee Syed Omer Nazar Shah said that the trust would construct the colony for widows and orphans in two phases and in the first phase, 200 houses would be constructed.

On a proposal of another trustee, Abid Kamal, the meeting decided to construct a thalassemia hospital in Faisalabad where operations of bone marrow would be conducted. The trustees expressed their willingness to initially donate Rs 10 million for the project and requested the commissioner to allocate land for it. They said that the proposed thalassemia hospital could immediately be started provided a suitable portion in the Allied Hospital, DHQ Hospital or General Hospital was made available to the FDT.

The meeting considered the request of the Government College University Faisalabad vice-chancellor for donation of Rs 4.6 million to pay fees of the deserving and poor students and constituted a three-member committee for the purpose. Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said that besides providing state land to the FDT for the housing project, the City District Government Faisalabad would also provide infrastructure, including the provision of roads, electricity, gas and drinking water. FDT Chairman Mian Muhammad Tayyab said that the trust had so far provided more than Rs 80 million for the accomplishment of various welfare projects, which included construction of 60 houses in Shahbaz Colony. Trustee Abid Kamal proposed immediate construction of an expo centre in Faisalabad.

Faisalabad(Punjab):The provincial government has allocated Rs1.3 billion for the purchase of 200 new buses for girls’ colleges in the province, a spokesman of the Education Department said on Sunday. He said the project had been planned last year but could not be implemented due to lack of funds.

Cases registered against 1,800 farmers in Faisalabad

Faisalabad Water theft cases were registered against 1,800 farmers in several police stations of the city on Tuesday.

With 826 suspects identified in Chaks 31-JB and 39-GB, Sandal Bar police registered the most number of cases.

The FIR identified 194 suspects in Chak 31-JB and 630 in Chak 39-GB.

These were registered on the complaint of Rakh Branch Sub-Divisional Officer Afsar Ali. He said the names were compiled by Irrigation Department officials over a period of one-and-a-half month.

He said most of the suspects were accused of breaching the canals to irrigate their fields. The complaint also identified farmers who illegally pumped water from canals using pipes.

Tarkhani police registered cases against 430 farmers of Chaks2-8-RB, 214-RB, 215-RB, 218-RB, 219-RB, 220-RB, 221-RB and 227-RB.

In Lundianwala, 152 farmers were accused of water theft. Of these, 33 belonged to Chak 630-GB and 31 to Chak 98-RB and the rest to Chak 63-RB.

Saddar police registered cases against 269 farmers of Chaks 75-RB, 228-RB and 238-RB; Bahlak police against 28 farmers of Chak 604-GB and Saddar Sammundri police against 33 farmers of Chaks 175-GB and 439-RB.

Police said raiding teams had been formed to arrest the suspects identified in these complaints.

In Faisalabad District People staged a demonstration against 20-hour loadshedding here on Monday. The protesters burnt tyres on roads and suspended traffic in and around Kamalia for more than four hours. They said that they were facing several problems due to the loadshedding during Sehr and Iftar.

The SSP said teams of the Elite Force would patrol the city between the iftar and the taraweeh prayers.

The Wasa is adding three more projects to increase drinking water supply to citizens from present 85 million gallons daily to 115 million gallons per day.

This was stated by Wasa Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz here on Wednesday. He disclosed that water supply to the city from tube-wells under the JICA Project was 56 million gallons a day, while eight million gallons water was being supplied from the tube-wells along Rakh Canal and one million gallons from Millat Town water works.

He said that the Wasa was carrying work over three ongoing water supply projects, including 15 million gallons project funded by the French government, five million gallons from tube-wells along Rakh Branch and 10 million gallons from Jhang Khanuana project. He disclosed that a huge amount would be spent for increasing one million gallons water supply per day to Faisalabad. He said that the Wasa had also started the ‘tanker service’ for water supply in a number of towns, including Rahim Town, Shahbaz Garden, Jail Road, Sindhu Town, Allama Iqbal Colonly, Warispura, Feroze Shah and Karim Town. He said that the service was being provided from 8am to 4pm daily.

The Wasa managing director said that the JICA of Japan would provide equipment worth Rs one billion to the Wasa which include the disposal station pumps, sucker machines and excavators for de-silting and cleaning sewer lines in the city. To a question, Zahid Aziz said that despite devastating loadshedding in the city, drinking water to citizens was being supplied for seven hours a day, i.e. two hours in the morning and noon and three hours in the evening. He said that 120 employees had been assigned the duty for the bills distribution and collection of the outstanding dues from the consumers.

The three-year power distribution programme was announced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2009 as one of the US efforts to support the Pakistan government to reform the power sector to mitigate the current energy crisis.

The programme is helping government-owned electric power distribution companies (Discos) improve their commercial performance in reducing losses, increasing revenues, and improving customer services by introduction of new technology and improved work practices.

Addressing the meeting, Fesco CEO Iftikhar Ahmed said that institutions were imperative for strong economy and the Fesco officers should exploit their potentialities to strengthen the corporate identity. He said that the energy crisis demanded from all engineers, officers and officials to make dedicated efforts in their individual capacity to resolve the crisis. He directed the operation staff to disconnect all connections with non-payment of two months. He also asked the superintending engineers (SEs) of four circles – First, Second, Jhang and Sargodha – to visit their divisions and provide guidelines to executive engineers and junior engineers in the light of their experience.

Chief Engineer Technical Sheikh Akhtar Hussain said that the number of clients in various sub-divisions of four circles had increased up to 35,000, which was a problem not only for the department but was also for the consumers. He proposed a new division by dividing existing big and unmanageable sub-divisions of the second circle. He added that two divisions could be created in Jhang circle and 10 new sub-divisions in Sargodha circles to improve their efficiency and control line losses. He said that a call centre was being established for redressing the consumers’ complaints. Fesco general manager Ghazanfar Ali Khan Baloch, Chief Commercial Officer Khurshid Alam, Additional Chief Engineer CS Ghulam Rasool, Chief Engineer Operations Zafar Abbas Bukhari and Director General Human Resources Mian Shahzad Raza were also present.

As many as Rs5.7 billion has been allocated for development works in Faisalabad for the current fiscal year 2012-2013, this was announced in a meeting of the district coordination committee on Friday.

The meeting was told that Rs1.523 billion of the development budget was allocated for ongoing schemes and the rest for new schemes. DO (planning) Mehr Ramazan said new schemes worth Rs433.7 million had already been identified and work would soon begin on these.

The total Faisalabad Development Authority(FDA) budget amounted to Rs16.76 billion, of which Rs11.159 billion was non-development expenditure.

The committee stated that Rs332.2 million was allocated for the purchase of medicine for public hospitals in the district –45 per cent more than the amount spent for the purpose last year.

The district government will separately get Rs115 million for purchase of medicine and machinery for basic health units and dispensaries, under the Punjab Rural Support Programme. The committee said the amount was 42 per cent more than the amount spent for the purpose under the PRSP last year.

The meeting was chaired by MPA Mian Ajmal. MPA Khawaja Muhammad Islam, DCO Naseem Sadiq, EDO (finance) Ayub Khan and DO (finance) Muhammad Anwar were also present.

DO (planning) told the meeting that Rs552 million was allocated for construction, repair and maintenance of farm to market roads. He said Rs20 million was allocated for purchase of medicines for veterinary clinics of the Livestock Department.

He said Rs80 million was allocated for repair, maintenance and renovation of school buildings in the district. This, he said, was more 13 per cent more than the amount allocated last year.

Rs20 million was allocated for promotion of sports; Rs3 million for a tree plantation drive; Rs215.4 million for the purchase of vehicles for the solid waste management department and water and sanitation agency and Rs51.6 million for the General Hospital Samanabad.

According to the weather department the epicenter of the quake was reported to be 50 kilometers south-west of the city of Lahore.

The quake was measured 3.7 on the Richter Scale. Several cities including Lahore and Faisalabad felt the tremors of the earthquake. The cities which felts the jolts include: Okara, Safdarabad, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Bhalwal, Shahpur and Sarawali. The earthquake also hit the outskirts of the city of Lahore.

The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad’s Finance and Planning Committee on Tuesday proposed a deficit budget of Rs762.34 million for the fiscal year 2012-13. The proposal was sent to the syndicate for their approval.

The committee decided that a cattle market be set up on Narwala Road Bypass in the year where farmers from nearby villages could trade cattle without having to rely on middlemen.

It decided to make on-campus paid jobs compulsory for students. The ratio of the university and students’ contribution towards the cost of their field research was set at 60:40.

Addressing the committee, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Iqrar Ahmad Khan said work on upgrade of a UAF sub campus in Toba Tek Singh would soon begin. He said the Planning Commission of Pakistan had approved the project and allocated Rs502 million for it.

He told the committee members that a proposal to set up a microbiology laboratory was in the pipeline and discussions were underway with some foreign donors in that regard.

He said the university had sent at least 200 staff members for training to foreign countries in the outgoing year, in comparison, he said, the Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) had sent 100 people for foreign training in five years.

Earlier, the Finance and Planning Committee expressed concern over, what it termed was, a sharp rise in the utility bills of the on campus residence facilities for student and faculty.

It said the raise in utility charges was making it difficult to manage the teaching and research expenses of the university. The committee urged the management to take notice of the situation and introduce some measures to cut down its expenses.

The DCO asked the officers of the market committee to also finalise arrangements for fair price shops.

He said arrangements should also be made for medical camps and complaint centres at the bazaars. Separate counters will be set up at these bazaars for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

The Asian Development Bank has given $23.29 million loan to the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company for the second phase of electricity projects.

This was told to the Fesco Board of Directors during a meeting here on Thursday. The board approved the electricity projects to be executed with the ADB loan. It also approved the purchase of 11kv switch gear panels, circuit breakers and bus insulators. The board reviewed the issue of purchasing electricity from three sugar mills and approved the electrification of Danish School for Boys and Girls, Hamoli (Mianwali district), at a cost of Rs 35 million, besides electrification of the Punjab Government Servants Housing Scheme, which was being constructed on Satiana Road. The board approved to hire the services of a legal and corporate company for the Fesco. The meeting said that various grid stations and transmission lines were being upgraded to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the agricultural, industrial, commercial and domestic consumers.

Faisalabad development plan of this year 2012-2013.Children’s hospital, girls’ college among projects planned this year. A new campus for Government College University, a girls’ degree college, a children’s hospital and two general hospitals and an underpass at Abdullapur Chowk are the main development projects that will be initiated in the city this year.

This was announced by District Coordination Officer Nasim Sadiq at a press conference on Tuesday.

He said 32 water filtration plants installed at various points in the city would start functioning this year.

He said Rs5 billion would be spent on the construction of the new campus for the GCU on a 200-acre plot of land near Ayub Agriculture Research Institute on Jhang Road.

He said the design of a parking plaza to be established in the city had been completed. He added the government was considering establishing the plaza on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.

The DCO hoped that a Model Bazaar set up on a 13-acre plot on Jhang Road would become the hub of commercial activities in the city.

He said work on the widening of the Canal Road was underway and would be completed on schedule. He said seven mini bypass roads had been built along the road to improve the flow of traffic. He said the road widening project would cost Rs900 million.

The DCO said the city government had already widened Kotwali Road and set up several parking lots along it.

He said Rs8 billion had been spent by the government for various development projects in two years.

He said the government had recently collected Rs4.5 billion in donations from the citizens and businesses. “These funds will be used to complete a house colony and some other public welfare projects,” he added.

The DCO said work on various ongoing schemes in education, health and communications sectors would continue during the year.

Faisalabad: two more schools are closed.Now 158 schools are closed with in the time frame of two months in Faislabad.

Assistant Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa along with DDO Tahir Siddique sealed two more schools for not observing the summer vacation schedule of the government.The officers raided Babar Chowk, Peoples Colony, and Fawara Chowk, Batala Colony, and found two schools open. They sealed the schools while three schools have already been sealed in Faisalabad besides cancellation of registration of 158 others.

The Faisalabad Traffic Police have launched a crackdown in the district against passenger and cargo vehicles plying without valid route permits, Chief Traffic Officer Sardar Muhammad Asif Khan said on Saturday.

The traffic police would impound all such vehicles until they obtained a route permit from the Secretary Regional Transport Authority.

Asif Khan said that vehicles impounded during the campaign would not be released till they produced at least a copy of application submitted to RTA for route permit. The CTO said that the traffic police had impounded thousands of vehicles in an operation against vehicles roaming in the district with just ' Applied For' plates. He said that as many as 6,256 persons had been challaned and a fine of Rs 1,924,800 had been recovered. He thanked the local business community for their assistance to improve the traffic system in Faisalabad by installing a number of traffic signals at vital points and providing barriers.
