Thankful that we have the vim and vigor to conquer Mt. Tapyas, we thought of the next best thing to our tiring day... a dip in a hot spring!

Since Coron is a small town, it took us no pain in going there by hailing a tricyle and in about fifteen to twenty minutes we were experiencing the soothing ambience of Mt. Maquinit hot springs.

We paid p150(per person) at the entrance. Bringing of food isn't allowed but a sari-sari store(small store) can be found in the area. A restroom is provided for those who want to change their clothes to swimming attires. Picnic tables are provided for guests who want to relax the day/night away.

A number of pool-like ponds surrounded by lush trees and mangroves can be seen upon arrival. Lamp posts abound and were lit during our stay. The water is said to be about 35-40c in temperature, really hot in my standard. It is also a mix of fresh water(from the mountain) and salt water(sea). I initially sat down at the edge of the concrete wall(moss covered) of the pond, immersed my legs and let my body temperature get accustomed to it.

True enough after about forty minutes, I felt relaxed. The best place to de-stress our sore bodies after the trek. Immensely therapeutic! This prompted us to have a room service one and half hour full body massage back at our lodge.

Island Hopping adventure in Coron

Home to some of the world's beaches and diving sites, in my mind I wanna conquer every tourist spot that Coron offers.

It was my husband's second visit(my first) in Coron so we didn't have a hard time to book ourselves for this activity even on a short notice(not advisable during peak season). We went to Mr. Al Linsangan of Calamianes Expedition Tours as early as 8am and paid P650 per head(little over $15), lunch included.

An overcast sky was present that day which meant the tour package that we signed for will bring us just to the nearest islands. It was the best option. Sailing far out in the sea was not advisable due to the big waves. The Korean couple that we're supposed to be with was late by 30 minutes, yet I didn't let that affect me, but instead prayed that good weather will prevail during our trip.

From Al's place, we just walked to get to the pier for about five minutes and hopped into our boat in no time.

First stop was the most photographed spot and the cleanest lake in Asia, Kayangan bay!

Went down to the other side and snorkeled for about an hour...

Next stop was CYC island were mangroves galore.

When we get to Banol beach, it was lunch time already. Beach huts abound the area, which are entirely for this purpose. While our guides were busy grilling and preparing our food, we took this as a cue to swim once again.

We headed to Twin Lagoon next. Separated by limestone cliffs, one has to go down and swim through a small passageway to get to the other side of the lagoon. Towering limestone cliffs and turquoise water welcomed us which left me speechless!

It is also interesting to note that this lagoon has a mixture of freshwater and saltwater, thus the changes in water temperature. When we went down to swim/snorkel, we immediately felt the disparity of this lagoon from the other islands.

It was the Habagat season and I expected that we were limited to just a few islands in our visit to this piece of heaven. But way better than what we had experience during our Caramoan visit last Feb. 2010.

Though it was tiring at the end of the day, the emerald green waters, unadulterated corals and immaculately white sand beaches were all worth the effort.

the lure of Mount Tapyas

To hike or not? That is the question...

Mt. Tapyas in Coron, Palawan can be seen from the town or if you're the adventurous type, you can climb it. It is quite noticeable because a cross made of steel can be seen at the top.

To get a magnificent view of Coron town and neighboring islands 360〫, you must sacrifice a little and muster some vim and vigor to tick this activity off in your itinerary. You'll need to put your cap, most comfortable clothes/footwear on, and bring some bottled water. Applying a substantial amount of sunblock on your face/exposed body parts is a must, too.

We had a turbulent landing due to rains earlier(made me dizzy and nauseous), thus climbing Mt. Tapyas before the sun sets seemed impossible for me that day. Thank heavens, a meal and a power nap cured it all. We rode a trike from our lodge for about 5 minutes and stopped in a community basketball court where our trek would start.

My experience with Mt. Pinatubo in Zambales in 2010 was way different, since here you will climb a flight of about 700 plus cemented stairs (with hand rails) in just about thirty minutes, or should I say, depending on your level of fitness.

A boy(forgot his name!) who was selling bottled water acted as our 'tour guide' that day.

During the climb one could actually rest on designated shaded stations and take a rest.

Finally...

After 40 minutes or so, we were able to see Coron in a different point of view.

One of those I'm-on-top-of-the-world feeling!

*side notes:
-best to conquer before sunrise or sunset (4:30 am/ 4:30pm onwards)
-it's a sin if you'll forget your camera
-no entrance fees required
-it is tiring, but you will be rewarded!
-expect that your body, particularly your legs and ankles will be sore the next day, so do this on the last day of your trip. it might limit your snorkeling/swimming capability during your island hopping/diving activity.

Getting Acquainted with Coron

Coron is a small town compared to Puerto Princesa, the capital of Palawan. You can basically walk around just to familiarize yourself.

A brief history from wikipedia...

The first inhabitants of Coron were the Tagbanuas who belong to the second wave of Indonesians who migrated to this area some 5,000 years ago. They were a nomadic, seafaring people, living mainly by fishing and subsistence agriculture. Although they are now sedentary (with the young using cell phones, etc.), they maintain many of their old customs, traditions and beliefs. Today, the Tagbanuas remain the dominant if not entire population of Coron.

Electricity is rationed. Blackout is a common occurrence during the day. Upon booking, make sure that a generator is provided in the hotel or the lodge of your choice.

From Darayonan Lodge(where we stayed), we explored it by foot...

Riding a tricycle is an option, no jeepneys.

If you're a city dweller and expecting big named fast food joints and shops you'll be disappointed. Coron is not a highly commercialized area, to my satisfaction(maiba naman!).

So what does this quaint town has to offer?

Hello! *clearing out the cobwebs*

With my unofficial hiatus, I owe everyone here an apology for my delayed posts. Though I'm late for a year ender review(but early enough for the Chinese New year *grins*), I'm posting a recap of my trips last 2011 as a year opener instead, which might help you in planning your destinations come summer time. A quick breather before I continue with my Coron posts.

Like any other year in the past, my trips were a mix of scheduled and "out of the whim" jaunts which make it more interesting.

Food trip, art and adventure. We welcomed 2011 with our Baguio trip. It's always been a tradition for our family to savor the cool climate of this summer capital of the Philippines during this time. We marked 1-1-11 with a wild, exhilarating experience that was the Treetop adventure at Camp John Hay, the newest offering of the city. Contrary to popular belief, rediscovering Baguio is always a delight.

We made an unplanned day trip to Lipa, Batangas at La Virginia Resort first week of February. I fell in love with the town that I dreamt of having our own retirement house here in the future. *sigh*

Camarines Watersports Complex and Caramoan in February is not the best time to visit since it's still the Habagat season. We weren't able to go island hopping. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the "misadventures" during this trip that we felt we were part of the Survivor series. I still wish to see this place during summer time.

We went back in time and marveled at the Spanish colonial houses in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan. My love for history was reawakened.

I consider myself lucky since I have my birthday right on my most favorite season which is summertime. Instead of pigging out or having a party yearly, I choose to explore another place to commune with nature for a quick respite with my family. Puerto del Sol in Bolinao, Pangasinan didn't disappoint us last year. If you are fond of road trips, sunsets, staying in a well-appointed resort, this place will amaze you likewise.

Visiting Palawan for the third time was the highlight of the past year. This time in Coron or in the northern part of the island. Summer again is the best time to visit to fully enjoy one's trip. We weren't able to explore all the islands since the weather was not cooperative. Even if, I won't get weary returning to this piece of paradise, as it always leave me in awe.

Compared to 2010, I wasn't able to go out of the country which was intentional. I wonder what this year has to offer in terms of traveling. Making things happen is exciting, but then again, surprises are welcome. Bring it on 2012!

Darayonan Lodge-A place like Home

Vans are a regular fixture at the Busuanga airport. These are the only means of transportation allowed from the airport to Coron town and vise versa. It costs P150 per person. For about 30 minutes you'll be traveling in a vast grassy land(yes, a savannah) with grazing cows and a few horses on the side.

Honestly, we chose Princess of Coron initially for our accommodations during our short stay in Coron. But upon learning that they were fully booked that day, we opted for our second option, which is Darayonan Lodge. My husband was already familiar to them because they stayed here(with his photography group) summer of 2010. It was just a street away from POC so in no time we were able to reserve an airconditioned room good for three persons for P1800 a night(around US$42) with free breakfast. My initial impression on the receiving area was it was pleasantly comfortable and cozy. Furniture and accents were very Filipino which suits my taste. The staff was hospitable enough to billet us even though we didn't reserve beforehand.

Some setbacks:

Food(breakfast) was nothing but ordinary. They serve unlimited coffee but brewed coffee was unavailable.

The hot and cold shower in the bathroom needs to be fixed. Very inconsistent.
Our room was situated near the street. You could hear the sound of those tricycles plying through as early as five o'clock in the morning. Choose rooms that are found at the back.

I've been to Palawan twice. First was in the summer of 1998 with my colleagues in Puerto Princesa, the province's capital. I was mesmerized by its beauty so much that I vowed to go back in the future. Almost a decade after, I went back with my husband in 2009. I admit that I became to adventurous that I added El Nido to our itinerary aside from visiting Puerto Princesa. You can read about it here. To date, it occupies the top spot in my most memorable local trip.

My husband would go back last year with his photography group, this time in Coron. According to wikipedia, it is the largest town in the island of Busuanga famous for its World War II wreck diving and listed among the top diving sites in the world. It was actually more than a photoshoot than a vacation(imagine, he didn't even get to swim!), so he wasn't reluctant at all to go back.

We booked our flight again this year through Cebu Pacificair to Busuanga. At first we dilly dallied in proceeding with the quick vacay since Typhoon Quiel was still in the country's area of responsibility. It didn't help that it was raining incessantly for almost two weeks here in Manila. I even thought of doing the sun dance for a reversal in terms of weather conditions. Yet, I didn't expect much. Surprisingly, rains stopped a day before our scheduled trip. Good thing, I did some minor preparations ahead of time, well, just in case. We hurriedly fix some domestic concerns and packed our essentials for the trip. These would mean outfits, toiletries, sunblock, cameras, chargers, tickets and moolah!

It was also an advantage that it's my husband's second time. We didn't reserve for any accommodations or even draw up an itinerary beforehand. Yes, not advisable for first timers.

Sun peeped through the clouds the day we drove to the airport. And just like that. We knew we are in for some major FUN!

Patar Beach

Hailed as the upcoming Boracay of the north, Patar Beach boasts of aquamarine waters, powdery, and almost white sand. But unlike Boracay, it is a public beach, it isn't crowded and only a few resorts made of nipa hut cottages(ideal for budget travelers) were in sight. The only hotel that we saw along the beach was Treasures of Bolinao found in the northernmost part of the beach. I learned that it also prides of beautiful rock formations.

Coming from Cape Bolinao, it took us 5-10 minutes to reach the place using our private vehicle. While we were there, we found ourselves doing the traditional activities when it comes to beacheneering- meditating while looking at the endless horizon, swimming,

people watching, strolling/frolicking in the sand, taking photos...

checking out/buying souvenirs...

and not to mention, eating!

Though we have to leave early since we don't want to miss Puerto del Sol's sunset, I must say Patar beach was a welcome discovery. another reason to go back to one of the numerous gems of Pangasinan.

Cape Bolinao Lighthouse

I must confess it was very challenging to take a snapshot of this famous attraction in Bolinao . Thanks to my husband's skills and of course the power of lenses, we succeeded. lol

The Cape Bolinao Lighthouse at Patar rises majestically 351 feet above sea level atop Punta Piedra Point, a towering hill of solid rock which is the sharp point of Cape Bolinao itself.It was built by the Americans in 1903 on a 351 feet (107 m) high promontory at the western part of Cape Bolinao, the lighthouse still sends signals to vessels passing by the area. We wished to get inside and climb to get a panoramic view of the neighboring places but to our dismay, it was locked.

We just satisfied ourselves by checking out the breathtaking view of the South China sea and this roofless structure beside the lighthouse, which was sadly ruined by a storm just this year.

Puerto del Sol Resort, Bolinao

After reading blogs and reviews online, we decided to stay here while in Bolinao . It was quite expensive for a resort but on second thought, we deserve it since it was my birthday celebration after all.

It was a long drive. But upon arriving at the resort, we knew that we chose the best in the area. Why? Here are the reasons...

you're not allowed to bring food in the resort
food in the resto is a little bit pricey
our room is quite small than what I expected based on their rates
swimming in the beach isn't recommended as it is in low tide round the clock!

tips:

you may eat out if you find the resort food expensive. there are a number of food joints in the area
swimming can be best enjoyed at their public beach for free, Patar beach, which is a few kilometers away from the resort. no worries if you don't have a car because you can reach it also by flagging down a tricycle
while in the area, try to visit Cape Bolinao Lighthouse(2nd tallest in the Philippines), Enchanted or Cindy's cave and Patar beach

Puerto del Sol

Pangasinan up north of the Philippines is a familiar destination to our family. I've been on a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Manaoag countless times, frolicked in an Anda beach and island-hopped at Hundred Islands in Alaminos back in 1997. Whenever we visit Baguio city it's always a breeze passing through it. So it wasn't a surprise when I thought of heading back to this province to explore and experience once more what it has to offer. But this time it would require us a five hour to six hour drive from Quezon city on a different route just to get to our destination which is, Bolinao.

Despite the long drive, we didn't fret. It was a scenic and smooth ride actually. Roads were well-maintained. I just regret not going down to get a shot of various old churches along the way.

I first read about this on Ourawesome Planet's site. I wasted no time to visit this exquisite exhibit of the different landmarks/festivals found all over the Philippines at the SM Mall of Asia. After all, you don't see this kind of creations everyday.

As an only child, my son grew up playing with these bricks by his lonesome even for a long period. The activity was like my instant baby sitter at that time. :D Yes, much better than leaving him in front of the TV.

Acuatico Resort's infinity pool

No, I haven't been here. For a long time this place was in my wish list. This wish was granted last week to a different person, my own brother! The obvious reason for the watermark.

If you're a resort type of person, Acuatico Beach Resort and Hotel in Laiya, San Juan, Batangas is the perfect getaway. Just two and half hours from Manila, you'll be experiencing this awesome view of the beach and enjoy its Balinese inspired villas.

To quote my brother, "Every nook and cranny of this resort screams magazine editorial, so you can't blame us for striking a pose everywhere." And this I love to experience in the future, too!

St. Michael The Archangel Church

I almost lost these pictures! I'm so glad I was able to recover them.

Being a predominantly Catholic nation, traveling in the Philippines is equated to visiting old churches and I mean, hundred year old churches. Founded by Franciscan missionaries in 1619, St. Michael Parish in Caramoan, Camarines Sur is no exception.

In this very remote and small town, you won't miss this red, brick church with a huge front yard. It's just a 5 to 10 minute walk from the town's centro.

While gazing at the vast, green lawn, I was trying to imagine the numerous festivities that were celebrated here which up to this day, keeps on strengthening the faith and devotion of the townsfolk even if they are often battered by a typhoon.

Opposite this rustic place of worship is a river, which was on a high tide at that time due to intermittent rains.

I'm elated to have visited. I have witnessed another manifestation of unwavering faith and love for God by the Filipinos even in a place surrounded by seas. Truly, God's love knows no boundaries.

Sorry to burst your bubble but this isn't another post about women on traveling solo. I'm still mustering enough guts to venture into one. I just leave it to the experts at this point. This is more of a collective account of some exploits in the past and activities that I love to do that is, unaccompanied.

1. My Davao trip last year was sort of a first in terms of traveling. My colleagues were booked ahead of me and I was scheduled a day after their departure. I didn't realize early on that it was my first time to ride a plane without a companion.

Going around a huge city for the first two days, visiting Eden Garden and Philippine Eagle Sanctuary by my lonesome, were among the most memorable parts of this trip.

2. Trips without my family. I've been married for a long time already but it doesn't mean that I can't do things without my husband and vise-versa. That, includes traveling.

*out of town- Boracay, 2006. Although I was with my sister and a best friend, I actually didn't enjoy this escapade that much because I miss my family. And to add insult to injury, it happened at the height of storm Milenyo's wrath.

*out of the country- Hongkong, 2009. Gave me also some sort of liberty that I haven't done in the past. As much I love running, I do walk a lot too. Too bad my friend can't keep up with me at night anymore, that I was left with no choice but to leave her in our hotel room and roam this charming city with just my ever dependable map and enough courage. The funnest part, I get to eat at my fave noodle house two nights in a row!

3. A Tagaytay-Nasugbu, Batangas road trip in 2005. I have my best friend and god daughter as companions, but it was so memorable because that was the first time I was able to drive outside of Metro Manila! Of course, without my husband's knowledge. *silly grin*

4. Watching movies. Yes, I did experienced it at times when I was still single. I get to choose my most convenient time, the type of movie and the food that I want to munch on. Just perfect.

5. Being the eldest in a brood of four(three girls and a boy), my family tend to be overprotective. But when I get to ride my first bike(a BMX one) at the age of thirteen, it gave me the opportunity to reach places beyond our subdivision unknown to my elders. Looking back, I think that gave me a premature feeling of independence in terms of wandering.

6. Driving. With just my fave music and my car as buddies, it is really therapeutic sometimes when you get to do it on your own.

7. Running. I like joining zumba, kickboxing and step classes with a group in the gym, but running is an entirely different thing. As what I've stated in this post, "it is my ultimate "ME time", a meditative hour, a "sacred" one. It is something you could do by yourself, at your own pace, power and time.

8. Shopping/Grocery shopping. Unlike other women, I'm not a groupie in terms of these activities. I save time and get to choose what I want. No pressure.

9. Cooking. I do all the preparations, cooking and cleaning up. Biggest consolation, my boys are very appreciative of whatever is on our spread come mealtime.

10. Writing. I love how the great author Paulo Coelho puts it, "For me, writing is praying in solitude"... And when is the best moment? Mornings, when my mind's refreshed and unoccupied from a good night's sleep.

As much as I enjoyed being with my family, I must admit I take pleasure in being alone at times. Anyone who knows me would agree that I'm very independent. Even my parents when I was younger believe that I'm a loner sometimes. Totoo pala. And I think, nothing's wrong with that.

Empowerment. Decisiveness. Self-esteem. Things that you gain when you experience to handle things on your own. It isn't too late to try!

Though the city of Naga is accessible by land from Manila, we boarded a plane and got there one hour after a very smooth ride. Known as the "heart of Bicol", it is the region's most populous city and the center of commerce, finance, education, religion and culture. We wasted no time to explore the city.

We rode a jeepney from CWC where we were billeted for a night for about 15 minutes or so. SM Naga was our first stop. We went here with Biggs Diner in mind. Just in time for lunch. Check out my post here .

Of course, when in town one shouldn't miss Naga Metropolitan Cathedral for the world. Why?

The feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia is celebrated on the third Saturday of September in Naga City, Bicol. The feast day is preceded by a novena, nine days of prayer, in honor of the Virgin. On the first day, the image of the Virgin, a copy of the Madonna in Peñafrancia, Spain, is brought from its shrine to the Naga Cathedral where the novena is held. On the last day, the image is returned to her shrine following the Naga River route. (more about it here ...)

To pay homage, we rode a jeep once more and a tricycle to get to it. Around 10 minutes from SM Naga. We were saddened that on a Sunday it was closed and schedule to re-open by 5 pm for the Sunday mass.

We took solace in taking exterior shots of the magnificent church instead.

My frustration completely diminished when a "magtataho" vendor came into view with my comfort food of all time. We got to talk to him briefly. He's 65 years old and could still carry on his sturdy shoulders those two large aluminum buckets of tofu, caramelized sugar and tapioca pearls! Must be a good exercise!

I hold dear the country side when traveling. Even in long trips like our 7 hour road trip in going to El Nido from Puerto Princesa in Palawan or in any of our numerous Baguio roadtrips, I refused to sleep. I'm most relaxed when I witness myself the road network, the endless greenery, even the "smell" of each place I visit.

I "people watch". I "breath" and cherish every moment of it actually. Each has their own uniqueness. After all, I don't do this everyday in my life.

The beautiful Mount Isarog welcomed us gloriously when our plane landed in Bicolandia, my Mom's hometown. Since we were billeted at CWC for a night, we automatically had free airport-complex transfers. The weather was sunshiny, which I've been wishing for to extremely enjoy sight-seeing because it is known as one of the islands in the Philippines that is often visited by a typhoon. I was thankful.

Upon entering the complex's vicinities, we were impressed with how massive the area and gracious the staff were. The structures were well-maintained and as expected, foreign tourists abound.

Tiki huts as my background

We booked in advance for a Tiki hut for P1,100 pesos only($25.8), good for two persons with a queen-sized bed and an airconditioner. I love it that it's just a few steps away from the swimming pool area but I dislike that you will get to use a common bathroom. On a positive note, it was just at the back of our hut and is very well-maintained.

We had our breakfast at the clubhouse. We found out that prices were a little bit pricey which is understandable. We weren't in the mood to try wakeboarding and just contented ourselves in watching and taking shots of the riders.

By lunchtime, we rode a jeep and had a brief Naga city tour, I will have a separate post on this soon.

We return to the complex hoping that we could at least dip into the pool. Unfortunately, it was too windy and cold to do so. Arthritis-inviting baga. Lol!

My husband told me that we could've skipped CWC, since we're not that keen in trying their watersports activities anyway. Or a day trip could have been enough. On a lighter note, I appreciate that we had a not too tight schedule that day which is really my kind of vacation. Untouristy and laid-back, even got to chat with some of the locales. Yun pala we'll have an entirely different experience on our next destination, ala Survivor, which was Caramoan.

The 150th birth anniversary of our national hero, Jose Rizal, coincided with the celebration of Father's day last Sunday. It was raining incessantly due to Typhoon "Egay" which made it impossible for us to troop to his monument at Luneta or Fort Santiago in Manila where a party was held in his memory.

But we were lucky to be in SM North Edsa the Block where an exhibit showcasing his life and nationalism is being held. I was surprised that a lot of people seemed very interested.

I've seen the films about him- Rizal and Bayaning Third World in the past, yet even as a history teacher, I admit that I can't learn by heart all the details or greatness about him.

It was a good refresher after all.

Maligayang bati, Gat Jose Rizal! Your nationalism and selflessness should continue to inspire us, the youth and more importantly, our current leaders in leading this country.

Formerly, Mang Donald's (no kidding!) it was established in 1983, it is said to be the biggest fast food chain in Bicolandia. Think of Jollibee or Chowking.

It was full-packed on a Sunday but nevertheless we managed to get a table. The ambience was American themed. Yes, burgers, hotdog, baseball, boxing and all.

Being on our first visit, we chose to be on the "safe" side and tried their popular Crispy chicken...

and we didn't regret trying their brick oven Four tops pizza, that we ordered it again on our second visit before going back to Manila...

plus this fish dish that I forgot to take note of...

Verdict? Food prices are very affordable. With the crispy chicken, nothing spectacular. Crispy enough yet my husband find it salty. The fish was oily for my palate. The pizza was a different story. I love it! The ribs were grilled to perfection with a right mix of sweet, tangy sauce. The service was quick enough despite the crowd. Bicolanos has the reason to be proud!

La Virginia Resort and Hotel- Lipa's hidden surprise

It was in Lifestyle Asia that I got a glimpse of this resort in Lipa, Batangas. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of that travel show, my bad. Anyway, it's a rare time that I'll be captivated with resorts like this since personally, I'm more of a beach type of person. Yet the moment I saw it, I knew we would visit one day for some family bonding. To my surprise, I didn't wait for long. It was a spontaneous trip we had one Saturday morning. We were invited by my sister's/sis-in -law's friend who lives in Lipa to come and visit their hometown. I was in Lipa once for an annual retreat for teachers sometime in 2009, but we're just confined in that Cappuchin house and going around wasn't part of the itinerary. Looking back, I just love the climate. Chilly most of the time, just like in Tagaytay.

To make the long story short, we counted ourselves in. I felt delighted, no ecstatic, upon learning that it was in La Virginia that we would meet up! We had a blissful two-hour ride from Manila following the site's location. We weren't disappointed. True to what I saw on TV and in their website, I was impressed with the resort's facilities where Philippine architecture is dominant. But I learned a lot of companies had their outings booked here though this resort isn't that too advertised.

I will stop talking and let you enjoy the place through this pictures...

Very clean and well maintained facilities, lots of flora and fauna...

Kids as well adults will surely love this place...

Lots of things to do, if swimming and being toasted in the sun isn't your forte...

they have attractions like the zipline, the Buddha viewdeck, an infinity pool, wall climbing...

and a chapel(made of wood!) to revivify you spiritually even if on vacation.

The resort has an entrance fee of P300 per adult (13 yrs. old above) and P200 per child(4 years to 12 years old). Bringing of food is allowed, though they have a restaurant and convenience store(souvenir/swim wears are for sale also) in the vicinity. Swimming and videoke hours are applied.

As the name connotes, it is of Spanish influence. Three hundred years under Spanish colonization is no joke. Filipinos' way of life has been altered since Ferdinand Magellan "discovered" our beautiful islands in 1611. This might have urged Mr. Acuzar, a realty magnate(San Jose Builders) to collect 27 houses(and more in the future, I guess) from all over the archipelago. tore and restored them piece by piece, plank by plank. Thus, an 18th to early 20th century town is recreated here in Bagac, Bataan. It's for me by far one of the most monumental idea a person could ever think of. Unbelievable passion he has!

From the moment you enter the vicinity, you'll be greeted by a security guard dressed ala "guardia civil".

*for P650($16) per person, you'll be treated with a very educational and informative walking tour(with old Filipino songs in the background) showcasing the Heritage houses and the Museo.

*the place is massive, grand. but I think that is an understatement. the set for Rizal the movie and TV series Zorro...

*"bahay na bato"(house of stone) is my ultimate dream for a house. for me it's sturdy and could withstand the harsh rains/winds(even flood) during the typhoon season.

*everything wood(dark is my preference) from furniture, to floors.

*wide salas(receiving area), high ceiling and a veranda is a must in each abode.

*so obsessed with these mirrors, I just can't think of where I can put them in my humble space.

*impressive dining experience restaurant(I felt I was Maria Clara here, lol)...the food served in dishes made by Lanell-Abueva Fernando, a known pottery artist.

*at the time of this writing, two churches are being constructed. one of them is the Abucay church of Bataan to complete a town's re-creation.

*intricate, awe-inspiring decorative detailing in each house speaks of opulence. fine furniture, antiques, paintings adorn these houses...

*can you imagine spending a night on a 19th century inspired hotel with all the modern amenities that you wish for?

*hotel guests can avail of this batis-style swimming pool or the spa in a wooden stilt, beachfront.

*a running river with an awesome, beautiful rock bridge that connects the property to the beach is picturesque.

*I love San Agustin church in Intramuros(where I had my wedding years back), but I'll surely won't say no if I'll I have it here instead. a pre-nuptial photoshoot is one good idea.

Paniman beach, Caramoan

Paniman beach is the jump-off point for island hopping when in Caramoan. We were disappointed that we weren't able to do this major activity (reasons here) but it opened our eyes to a lot of things.

They say that Boracay was like this many years back. Pristine, uncorrupted and not money oriented.

Scenic view just by the beach itself...

intact "bayanihan"...

infectious smiles amidst the unsophisticated lifestyle...

and it doesn't have to be white sand all the time. it's brown, yet very fine...

and the best part...you didn't have to break the bank just to witness all of these.
