He shot in Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Srinagar for it. In the film, the actor plays an army officer named Samar and he is paired opposite Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.

Hindi movie review: Oh My God !

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sat, 29 Sep 2012 11:37:00 +0000

OMG Oh My God! is about something that touches all our lives - religion. It is a film about our relationship with God, how instead of being God-loving, we have become God-fearing. How religion has become a business run by godmen (here aptly referred to as 'salesmen') who aren't in fact very spiritual at all. A note to atheists and agnostics - the film is not an endorsement of those views. It insists on the existence of God.

Kanji Lalji Mehta, played by Paresh Rawal, is an avowed atheist who runs an antiques shop. Kanji is a wily salesman. He weaves tall tales around his wares and sells 200-rupee idols for thousands. The faithful are always ready to pay. As Kanji puts it: "Shraddha ka kaam hai, jitna dalo, utna kum."

One day, an earthquake destroys Kanji's shop. The insurance company refuses to pay, saying it was an act of God. So Kanji, defiant, furious and abandoned by his family, goes to court and sues God. The story is an adaptation of a very successful Gujarati play, which later became a hit in Hindi and Marathi too. The original template is an Australian film called The Man Who Sued God. Sadly, here, a terrific play makes for limp cinema.

Director Umesh Shukla, who has also directed the play, is bogged down by the burden of Bollywood. So we must have an item number with Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Deva. Shukla must also make room for the mega-stardom of Akshay Kumar, who is both producer and God.

Akshay plays God, which would have worked well if the film didn't have to build him up so much. He is introduced with an elaborate action sequence, featuring tacky special effects, in which he rescues Kanji from religious fanatics. This God comes to earth on a snazzy motorcycle and wears, among other things, a long purple jacket. His face is always bathed in a strange, diffused light. And there are scores of frames of him just smiling benevolently or looking wisely into the distance.

Paresh is wonderful as the stubborn, smart and eccentric Kanji. He gets a few fiery scenes in court, but the film sags because the other characters are so flimsy. Mithun Chakraborty, in a hideous wig, plays a weird, fey guru. Govind Namdeo is a godman who constantly eats fruits and shakes with anger almost every time he speaks. Eventually OMG Oh My God! dissipates into a lecture. The intentions are good, but the preaching is boring.

Paresh Rawal, as usual, rises above the material. He is the force in this film.

"Wonder Woman" is a major move in 2013

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 27 Sep 2012 12:31:00 +0000

Wonder Woman is an adaptation of the popular comic book character in the DC Universe, and is soon to be a major motion picture.

The sexy, strong yet dignified Wonder Woman fits the bill. Superhero movies are hit or miss, but most agree that the past decade has been a golden era for comic based super hero movies. Think X-Men, Iron Man and the Chris Nolan Batman movies (i.e. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight). The film has gone through more writers and directors than Gigli. In some ways, the character should be easy to make into a film, but with how iconic she’s become, it may prove difficult for a movie studio to appropriately adapt the comic for the screen.

Wonder Woman is going to be something terrible and stinks up the theatres 2013.

U.S. actress sues anti-Islam filmmaker......

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 27 Sep 2012 10:22:00 +0000

An actress who said she was duped into appearing in an anti-Islam film that stoked violent protests across the Muslim world took her legal bid to federal court on Wednesday in a renewed effort to force it off YouTube. The lawsuit filed by Cindy Lee Garcia names the popular online video site YouTube and its parent company Google Inc. As defendants, along with the Egyptian-American Coptic Christian from California believed to be behind the making of the film. Last week, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied Garcia's request for a temporary restraining order that would have required YouTube to stop posting the crudely made 13-minute video, finding the actress was unlikely to prevail on the merits of her case in state court. As in her previous lawsuit, Garcia accused the purported filmmaker of fraud, libel and unfair business practices. But her federal lawsuit also asserts a copyright claim to her performance in the video, titled "The Innocence of Muslims."

Garcia's case was the first known civil litigation stemming from the video, billed as a film trailer, which depicts the Prophet Mohammad as a fool and a sexual deviant. The clip sparked a torrent of anti-American unrest in Egypt, Libya and dozens of other Muslim countries over the past two weeks.

The outbreak of violence coincided with an attack on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya. U.S. and other foreign embassies were also stormed in various cities across the Middle East, Asia and Africa. For many Muslims, any depiction of the prophet is considered blasphemous.

Google has refused to remove the film from YouTube, despite pressure from the White House and others to take it down, though the company has blocked the trailer in Egypt, Libya and other Muslim countries.

Garcia's lawyer argued in court last week that her client, who is from Bakersfield, California, has suffered harm similar to a person whose privacy is violated by the unauthorized release of a sex tape. But Google's attorneys said that the rights of an actor do not protect that person from how a film is perceived. In her latest lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Santa Clara, California, Garcia says that Google is infringing on the copyright she holds to her performance in the film by distributing the video without her approval via YouTube. Garcia's lawsuit identifies Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, a Los Angeles-area Coptic man who has served time in federal prison for bank fraud, as the film's producer. On Saturday, a Pakistani cleric offered a $100,000 reward to anyone who killed the film's maker. Garcia said in her lawsuit that an Egyptian cleric had issued a fatwa, or religious edict, against anyone who served as a director, producer or actor in the video.

According to Garcia, Nakoula operated under the assumed name of Sam Bacile, misleading her and other actors into appearing in a film they believed was an adventure drama called "Desert Warrior." After the fact, however, she learned that some of her lines spoken in the production had been dubbed over. The alteration made it look like Garcia "voluntarily performed in a hateful, anti-Islamic production," the lawsuit says, adding that she has "been subjected to credible death threats and is in fear for her life and the life and safety of anyone associated with her." Nakoula has been in hiding for much of the past two weeks after being questioned by federal authorities looking into whether he may have violated terms of his probation in the making or promotion of the video.

Kochadaiyaan movie review & release date

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sat, 05 May 2012 09:55:00 +0000

Kochadaiyaan Tamil movie is one of the boldest hands an increasingly muscle-flexing Bollywood has played of late – it will be the first ever Indian film completely shot using performance capture technology, otherwise known as photorealism.

"India is a land of mythology and fantasy – and through this technology, we are able to watch that come to life," says the film's director Soundarya R Ashwin. "This will set a new trend and open [up] a whole new medium in Indian cinema – animation."

Kochadaiyaan was shot between January and March of this year in Chennai – then at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire – and is currently in post-production.

The hi-tech technique is instantly recognisable from such Hollywood blockbusters as The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix Reloaded.

"It's a highly technical process. But in its simplest form, when filmed in a 3D space, the actors' actions are captured and then attached to a 3D model. The rest is worked on worked on thereafter."

The titular lead character in the film is played by 61-year-old superstar (and father of the director) Rajinikanth, who is so famous on the sub-continent he doesn't need a second name. Meanwhile, the score has been composed by double Academy Award winner A R Rahman.

The movie's team believe they have a breakout global hit on their hands: "What we have achieved sets new standards in the Indian film industry," says Ashwin.

Don't ban Salman Rushdie: Shriya Saran furious !

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 24 Jan 2012 19:14:00 +0000

Shriya Saran gets chatty with TOI on Salman Rushdie, sexy item numbers and more...

She has a smouldering, hot aura, which makes men go weak in the knees. But, those who judge oomphy gal Shriya Saran of Sivaji: The Boss fame merely by her looks, are in for a shock. Behind that comely exterior lies a woman, who's very sensitive to her surroundings and a trained Kathak dancer, whose candid takes on life are extremely endearing. In a candid chat with PT, Shriya gets chatty on life, love and more...

Does it bother you that Salman Rushdie will not be a part of Jaipur literature fest, especially since you are also doing a film based on Rushdie's Midnight's Children, directed by Deepa Mehta... Keeping a man like Salman Rushdie away from the fest is illogical! Look at his body of work! We are the largest democracy in the world, so to take an autocratic view on Rushdie's visit to India is uncalled for! If people's sentiments have been hurt, they have a right to voice them. But don't ban him, please!

You had said that Sivaji: the Boss changed your career, but now that you are integral part of Bollywood, do you feel a special connect with Shivaji - the Maratha warrior too? It's really strange, but I find a connect with Shivaji Raje through Rajinikanth. Rajini sir is born a Marathi, he's a superstar in Tamil film industry and a national icon too. He started his life as an ordinary man and reached the pinnacle. This is how Shivaji Raje's life also traversed from common to extraordinary.

You have openly admitted that you admire Anna Hazare. Now that his movement has slowed down, do you feel disappointed? Anna comes from a small village and yet he inspired the entire nation to fight the menace of corruption head-on. That is not a small achievement. He may have withdrawn in a shell, but at the right time, he will revert to take the battle forward. It's a great honour that he will be watching our film Gali Gali Chor Hai, which deals with corruption.

Does it rankle you that Veena Malik is doing Channo - a sizzling item number in the film and not you? I couldn't have done Channo even if I wanted to because I am playing a homemaker in the film.

If you were given a chance, what would be your first choice for doing an item number? I'd love to do Munni or Sheila because Malaika and Katrina look great in these numbers. Alas, I'm still waiting to do my first item number!

The Iron Lady

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 12 Jan 2012 08:50:00 +0000

‘The Iron Lady’ is a biographical film about Margaret Thatcher, the former and only female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, portrayed by Meryl Streep. Her husband Dennis, played by Jim Broadbent, makes his brief appearances when she talks to his ghost and reality and memories of the past (with the young Dennis played by Harry Lloyd) melt into surreal imaginings.

No matter what one might have thought of Thatcher’s politics, the film is truly remarkable at what it is, the depiction of a highly controversial woman. Streep is superb as Mrs. T and depicts her vulnerability as dementia takes hold of her and as she is about to lose her past, showing the key events of her life as Prime Minister which made her one of the20th century’s most famous and influential woman.

The film might be a bit single-minded missing out everything that made her a unique and formidable figure especially the most current one, i.e., her strong arguments against any involvement in the European Monetary Union and membership of the Euro and her much ridiculed prediction that a single currency could not accommodate industrial powerhouses such as Germany and backwards countries such as Greece.

There are brief moments, when back in the presence, and the frail MT is asked how she feels that we are given a psychological insight. She dismisses the question with ‘ far too much emphasis on ‘feeling’ nowadays, what matters is thinking. What we think we become ! ‘

The film’s uncritical nature will infuriate a lot of people, yet Meryl Streep’s performance as MT down to the tailored power dressing, the pearls, the hair and the voice is so spot on it’s eerie and one often questions whether it isn’t the real Mrs.T one is looking at and only for one brief moment one feels as though it is Streep’s very own personality coming through.

If she doesn’t win an Oscar for her role as Mrs. T I will eat one of the hats she was asked to stop wearing as a first step in a makeover to becoming the country’s leader.
