What a great day for a ride. And we came! Attending were: Dave Hawk, Allison and Scott [Dave's daughter and soninlaw] Roger and Sandy, Jim Coleman, Jeanne Anne, Tony, Mr. Bones, and me.
Tony took us on a city tour checking out all the vistas, then to Green LIfe for pizza. We talked that next week we'l meet on Sunday at the DD on East Brainerd so we can ride out that way.
Once again the Zombi Candi was closed BOO!

And there was a RESURGENCE IN ATL

The Fossils went to Resurgence in ATL; Tony and Lucy, Sandy and Ralph, and Mr. Bones and me. We went Saturday morning for the city ride. There were about 50 bikes. There were two of my favs, the Black Jack by Genuine. Of course there were the old standards and lots of new twisters. We met at a KrispyKreme shop with lots of viewing. Anne Price and Derrick STanley from Terminal were there as was the Breakfast sponsor, Floyd Grimm from Vespa Marrietta.
Tony went on the ride, the parade in 5 pts, and the gymkhama and he and Lucy stayed until the wee hours of the morning but alas Tony didn't win best bike of the raffle Lammy.

WE had a blast last Saturday! Jean Ann, Mr. Bill, James Killian, and me. At least some of us have a parade to our name. Next year we're invited again.

This coming Saturday's meet-up at DD will be our last there until Spring. Saturday workers have been begging for Sunday rides and, it's getting colder so a later time will be more comfortable.

Starting Sunday, October 21st we will meet at DD at 1:30 . We have some color cruise rides planned and a weekday ride to the sock factory in Cleveland to get our cheap cheap cheap Smartwool socks[$2 per pair]. they have Car-hart and others. Never know what'll be there. And as a special treat stopping at Scoops and Burgers for the one and only grape ice cream. Way better than it sounds. Just like Nehi grape.

So come one come all to this last Saturday ride to Spring.

This past Saturday the ride started , as usual, at Dunkin.
We have new members:
Tim and Melissa Brooks-Welcome!!
They ride Honda PSX 150. Some sweet rides...so quiet but firm on the road. Their daughter came too but I don't know her name.

They joined Bill Levy, James Killian, Jim Coleman, Dave Hawk, and Tony Boydston. I didn't go.
I had told Tim if I led the ride we would go up Roberts Mill and down the W. So...Tim led the ride up Roberts Mill and down the W. Great fun for all

WE miss you on the rides.

Bill Levy, me, Jim Coleman and James caught this ride.Bill thought he had found a new way to the ridge but it was just partially new. So we went up and caught the beauty of the ridge then road down on Shallowford. Of course once the Civil war came up and cannons....guess who was all aglow.

We miss y'all and hope you start again when the weather cools.

So yesterday was the third "every Saturday meet up" If you weren't there you were missed. And the timing was great since lat er there was 20 minutes of hail at my house.

We'll be meeting weekly at Dunkin Donuts on Hwy 153 across from Northgate.
Come for the ride, grab a cup of joe and maybe a sweet.

Meet AT Scenic City on Friday night at 5:30 PM

*Friday night meet and greet at Blacksmith's bistro and grill 6p.m. till 12. (3914 St. Elmo Avenue Chattanooga, TN 37409). Great food and cold drinks.
Saturday morning breakfast at Scenic City Scooters 8a.m. to Noon. (2248 Dayton Blvd.37415) Ride leaves at 12:00 Noon up to the Monteagle camp site. This will be a 75 mile ride through the twisty mountain roads. The ride will end up at Laurel Trails Campgrounds. If you"re not into camping there are hotels close to the campsite. Saturday ...night diner ride out to a great local place for an awesome meal, then back to the campsite for fire, scooters, and madness.
Sunday ride back to Chattanooga 11:00a.m. This will be a 50 mile ride straight down to Scenic City Scooters.

This is a FREE rally.
You will get a Saturday morning breakfast, a rally patch, and a great weekend.

You will pay for your own lodging/camping, and the rest of your meals.

Wee will have a chase truck for the ride to and from the camp site. You may also put your camping gear in the chase truck and leave your vehcile at Scenic City Scooters for the night.

Rally T-shirts will be availble for $5.00.

Venues and hotels will be added shortly.

Where: Meet at cardboard hill on Manufacturer's Rd. Right across from FoodWorks.

This is a slow speed ride to Chester Frost Park. We will picnic for 90 minutes then ride home down Gold Point Circle and Big Ridge rds.

S0 bring a sandwich and a drink [no alcohol] for a family friendly ride.

FYBO rally report

My 2011 goal: I'm trying to get to one scooter rally each month this year. I have lots planned out and hope it works.
First rally was FYBO in Durham NC. Due to mechanical problems we couldn't take our scoots. AND the weather was just beautiful...not too cold as the rally leaders said it usually was. So that was a BIG loss but we had a great time anyhoo. Durham is the kind of town that scooters really can maneuver.Lots of the rally took place @Fullsteam, that's the big F on the door. Like most rallies there is lots of beer and high times, Fullsteam is the bar where we met. Here are some pix of the awards and scoots that showed up. The rally leaders were way cool as were all the people we met. Of course we Fossils were the oldest of the riders....like we didn't know it.
One high point for me was meeting Star Markham [hope this is correct] who rode in the 2010 Cannonballe from Vancouver to Portland . She is one great gal. She has her own style including her paper and pencil GPS router. Forgot the name of the thingamajig but it worked for her and the lammy she rode.

Next rally is in CocoBeach FLa at the end of the month, by then my ride will be painted. I've had 2stroke of genius screen leg-shield banners for the club riders. I will have them made by the time we go. Let us know if you plan to go.

Membership Update and ridership

Brenda Borden our newest member, sorry no close-up Brenda, came out for her first Fossils ride. So glad you came. Brenda let us know the ride was 105 miles which I think is our longest ride so far. WOOT!

We were joined by a self-proclaimed rogue rider, Fred Stinson [hope that is correct...couldn't read it...that will teach me to have people write on a map]. We gave Fred all the Fossils stuff and hope he sends it back in.

Membership man has new license plates if you need one.

Road warriors were: Brenda borden, Fred Stinson, Hugh Schein, Jen and Stan Obal [booya], Bill Gallagher, Jerry 'Batman' Hall, George Barber, and Tony Boydston and the founders.

Beautiful but not the gorge ride part I

Jerry"Batman"Hall led the ride from Hwy 58 to Signal Mtn Rd where riders had stopped for lunch. We had 10 riders ready to go. I think as we started out many of us noticed we were not going down the canyon but up to Prentice Cooper and out to Sequatchie Valley. The day was great weather and all the curves were easily negotiated. We stopped first in Whitwell for fuel where I got with Jerry. He never knew the canyon was to be the ride so that is still coming up.
I love going on a new road each and every ride, if I can. We doubled back towards Signal but cut off onto 283. Here was my new road for the day I thought. This was so beautiful....down the valley with scenic vistas til we got to Hwy 111. Jerry got with a few of us and offered to go down another great road so we doubled back to Hanson Gap Rd.
This was exciting since it said "local traffic only" and I didn't know what was ahead on this the second new road of the day.
This took us up Mowbray Mtn sometimes parallel to Hwy 111. As we got to the top I felt some dejavue.
When I moved to this area I worked for the county schools. There was a school on top of Mowbray Mtn. It's gone now but a terriffic loss. The school had the best cooks in the county...remarkable cinnamon roles were served up most every time I came. They had a wonderful principal..Mrs. Devota Barnes and the school had great teachers, families, and students.
So the ride took us through this mountain top and then down to 27 where everyone went off toward home. Later Jerry told me that before Hwy 11 existed this was the only way across. Oh so much better than 111.

This was a great ride...thanks Batman.

TN River Gorge ride back due to popular demand

FGM says: meet tomorrow @ WaffleHouse on Hwy 58 near Hwy 153 in time to leave at 1:00PM for the 2nd annual TN River Gorge Ride. This is a very scenic ride about 30 miles down the ride and the prediction is for 60 degrees. WOW.
So hope to see you there to meet old friends and meet new ones.

FGM says be a wimp...you'll be warmer

So there! I found these at Walmart.com. Both for under 100.00 including shipping. For 2011 I am going to one scooter rally a month. In January its :"FYBoff" in Durham NC. It's a free polar bear type rally. So I want to be warm while riding. No sense in going to a rally and not riding. If it stops raining and sleeting we'll have a ride.

Congratulations to Doc Tracy and Lee Smith for being the first recipients of the newest Fossil achievement.
First there was the Goddess award, then the "In the Wind" award and now the latest. And its a patch!

During the "Enough Turkey and Football ride" these brave riders met a dog. The ride had been searched for dogs, potholes, and other ride interrupters Saturday but this dog was not found.
Through quick thinking, agility and good balance our brave Fossils get awarded the prize.
The dog went home with nothing.

FGM bestows the last "In the Wind" award this year to Lee Smith. Lee is a daily rider of Deathstar his Agility. Be sure to check out his unique paintjob and the aftermarket bling. He joins the list of club members whose scoot is their daily driver.
We're glad to have this future Fossil among our riders.

BRRR it was cold but two new members braved it

We rode! It was clear but cold as we rode for about 1 hour and 30 miles through Hamilton County. I think it made 50 degrees. This has prompted me to start to make a scooter skirt.
Point of clarity: for all rides starting at Harrison Bay, we will now start at the first building as you enter the park. Mea Culpa.

WE took mostly sideroads and saw only four cars. Rides on this side of the river are usually just casual with few hills but they do have turns. Only one mishap and we ended up at my house for drinks of warmth, cookies, and nuts.

We will try for a December ride.

ENOUGH TURKEY AND FOOTBALL RIDE DETAILS

Be sure your ride has a full tank. The last gas station that has pay at pump is Kangaroo right next to the Harrison Post Office.
We will meet @ Harrison Bay State Park in the front by the register campers bldg. It is closed but there is a parking lot. Restrooms are down in the marina area. There is a gas station across from the park which will be open. You need to go inside to pay.

So we will leave @ 1:30.
The ride is 33 miles long and will take close to one hour. We ran it today and all the roads are clear. this is a nice and easy ride on country roads.

The ride will end at our house for cookies and drinks.
