Super Middle Weight Tournament

I have been quite impressed by the Supper Middle Weight tournament. It has produced some great fights. Jarmain Taylor (recently dropped out), Carl Froch,, Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham, Andre Dirrell , and Andre Ward all fighting for the top spot. How can it not be Exciting? The best and the latest so far is the Froch-Kessler fight. Plenty of action from start to finish. The last round ws just explosive! Two big punchers going toe-to-toe! Aint nothin better! If you haven't seen it yet, watch it now!

And the tournament will only get more exciting as the fighters inch their way to the top of the division.

Pacquiao Clottey Game Plan Prediction Was Right

I wrote my prediction for the Pacquiao Clottey fight on Feb.21 and after I saw the interview, I thought to myself...Wow! They said everything that I have said in my blog. I'm so glad that I finally got it right this time. I usually get things wrong. For example, I predicted the Cotto fight to not go over 6 rounds. My actual prediction was 4th round KO, but I didn't write it so I guess it's fine lol..Next, Mayweather vs. Mosley. Will I get this one right? Stay Tuned =)

Is Pacquiao Going To Retire?

I wonder what it'll be like for Pacfans when they hear about Pacquiao's retirement? As time passes by it doesn't seem to be too far fetched. As many of us know, Pacquiao is getting closer and closer to retiring. And winning the election might ultimately decides his future in boxing.

I wonder what people are thinking? Are they praying for Pacquiao to win the election or are they praying for a Mayweather showdown? Are they going to vote for him knowing that he could retire from boxing after or vote him out to extend his legacy? I for one, would not like Pacquiao to retire nor get involved with Philippines' messy politics. I believe it will corrupt him any way possible. Politics will suck him into the depths of hell and even further beyond lol..

Pacquiao Vs Clottey Still A Brilliant Classic

Pacquiao Vs Clottey sure disappointed a lot of Pacfans, but it is still a brilliant performance by Pacquiao worthy of your growing collection. Every one knew Clottey is a very sturdy defensive fighter. We all knew it's going to be a long fight and a decision was a very high possibility. Why are so many fans left feeling robbed? That may have a lot to do with Pacquiao's current string of knockouts starting from David Diaz in the Light Weight division in 2008. He has been spoiling the fans, producing dominating performances after another against top calibre names in boxing. He made DeLa Hoya quit, he destroyed Hatton, and battered Miguel Cotto.

Why not Clottey? Well, he's just a rock. Antonio Margrito didn't even hurt him with bricks. His defense is so tight that not even the number one p4p could crack his force field. Despite the lack of a knockout or knock downs, Pacquiao still seemed like the best fighter in the world. He still showcased why he's the best. He showed his speed, poise, stamina, respect, patience, and power. He boxed beautifully and all of that showed when Clottey couldn't find a way to summon up all his will to even have a chance. Pacquiao even showed his playful side when he "POMPYANG" (double punch) Clottey. For those who don't know, Pacquiao pulls out this move while having fun in training.

Why Pacquiao Avoids Black Fighters

I've recently seen or heard this question a couple of times before Pacquiao fought Clottey. It could be argued, but it doesn't really matter what color they are. It's more about their style of fighting. It just happens that a lot of black fighters are slick and somewhat more defensive. Pacquiao's camp probably didn't take this route because he will not look good against them. Just imagine if Pacquiao fought Tim Bradly, Andre Berto, Mayweather, Mosley, or even Nate Campbell. It would have been an entirely different story. It would have been a bittersweet mixture of a little less entertaining, but a little more competitive fights.

Pacquiao is true to his word. He chose to fight fighters who are willing to trade, which would result in a great entertaining fight. By doing so, he has created so many classic bouts and has transcended his name to super stardom. That's why he's at the top of the p4p list!

I wrote an article a while ago describing Filipino fighters that could possibly continue to be the future of boxing after Pacquiao. After two of them suffered knockout defeats, Filipino boxing appears to be in peril.

People had high hopes for this kid for a reason, he has tremendous potential. However, right when things are looking up for him, he started crumbling down. It would seem that he is satisfied with having achieve that stature. He admitted that at this stage of his career, he has had enough of boxing.

Brian Viloria
After beating Ulises Solis, Brian sat atop his division once again. This reign would be short lived, after being knockout by Carlos Tamara in the last round, in a fight Brian could have won if he had made it to the last bell.

Bernabe Concepcion
He was disqualified for hitting Levuano after the bell.

And even before all of this, Z Gorrez suffered a head injury that led to a coma. He is now slowly recovering.

I sure hope that this is only for the moment, and soon pinoy boxers will bounce back with conviction and determination. I hope more Pinoy boxers can achieve what Pacquiao achieved throughout his career.

Less than 3 weeks left before one of the most anticipated fights this year, Pacquiao vs Clottey. I am not an expert or a hardcore fan of boxing, but this is how I see the Pacquiao-Clottey fight going.

I think Pacquiao will play the role of the counter puncher. Pacquaio will take the lead, but he'll be looking to counter Clottey with the right hook and the uppercut. Pacquiao will push the action in the first couple of rounds, as he will try to make Clottey open up his seemingly impenetrable guard. Then, he will fire off the right hook and the uppercut once Clottey starts his offense.

Clottey's gameplan would probably be to push Pacquiao into the ropes and give him no room to use his speed. However, Pacquiao's footwork will spoil that gameplan. Once Clottey realizes this, Clottey will switch to his plan B. He will wait and try to catch Pacquiao with a huge punch. Wether that plan will work or not, will determine the outcome.

I personally thought that Valero was overrated and disregarded the thought of him ever getting even close to Pacquiao, but I might reconsider.

After Valero's one sided beating of Antonio DeMarco, the number one contender for the WBC Lightweight title, he bursts into the US boxing scene. The WBC title was once held by Pacquiao, but it's not the only reason the two are being compared. His aggressive style, good hand speed and footwork, southpaw stance and uncanny power, is reminiscent of how Pacquiao used to be. He fights savagely like a beast that tears apart everything his eyes could see. He punches in combinations, swarming all of his opponents to submission, not a single soul survived to see the last round. These are the kind of things Pacquiao did when he was in the featherweight division.

With a perfect record of 27W 27KOs, 18KO were in the very first round, Valero is still relatively unknown. He is more of a terror anywhere near the lightweight division than Pacquiao because of his 100% knockout ratio. Just like Pacquiao before he hit the big time, Valero has a limited fan base. This is partly because of his lack of exposure in the US. He has not been granted a license to fight in the US except in Texas because of a former head injury he suffered after a motorcycle crash.

People has long been waiting for a Pacquiao Valero showdown, since having seen a glimpse of Valero from YouTube videos. He's a little dynamo who's power could rival that of Pacquiao's. Though Valero is not as complete a fighter like Pacquiao, he has tremendous power that could lay anybody out. That's right, anybody, even Pacquiao. But at this moment, I don't think he can beat the pound4pound king.

Valero has flaws that Pacquiao and Roach can easily exploit. Having most of his fights end early, Valero's chin is still a question mark. No one has really taken the fight to him because of his power. Afraid to take a chance, most either back up or cover up to avoid getting hit with one of his dynamite left hand.

Not only is his chin questionable, it is also up in the air. His defense is not the best. His hands are often way down his waist and his wide open when he attacks. His agility to slip punches and his ability to go in and out with his footwork kind of make up for his lack of defense. If he improves in these departments, then I am sure we'll have a new superstar in a couple of years. Let's just hope Pacquiao would still be around by then, so we could see a real explosive fight! A real dream fight!

Why Pacquiao is so Exciting

Pacquiao is so exiting to watch. He has a crowd pleasing style, very dynamic and explosive. He always proves to be a little bit better than what we expect, as Larry Merchant would say, and he keeps improving. The reason he's exciting is because he's vulnerable. He can get hit a lot, therefore he's beatable. This is all because of his style. He always takes more risks than he should trying to go for the KO. All while playing to his advantages, his speed and power. He's a speedy little buzz saw with power in both hands.

Mayweather will be pale in comparison. Mayweather is more on the safe side. He tends to be more defensive. Also palying to all his advantages, speed, elusiveness, and quick reflexes. That is why his fights are boring to watch. The opponent can't catch him with clean punches because he is so elusive, counters so quick and so accurately, and then move away. He's so good that it's almost always a guaranteed Mayweather domination, therefore always predictable. I always expect Mayweather to win by UD. Who doesn't?

Pacquiao can play the counter puncher's role and still knock people out. Particularly in the De La Hoya, Hatton, and Cotto fight. He can do this because he throws a lot of punches with tremendous force, unlike Mayweather who is content popping you with one or two clean shots and then move away. Paquiao will stay there and pound you.

Though both are dominant, fight fans will always prefer the more aggressive style Pacquiao brings to the table than Mayweather's defensively executed masterpieces. Pacquiao has produced a lot of exciting fights because of his style. His speed, his power, his free-flowing combinations, footwork, and his desire to knock everyone he faces out makes him one of the most exciting boxer of his era.

Why Mayweather Fights Are Boring

A lot of people criticize Floyd for producing boring fights. I agree, Floyd Mayweather is solely to be blamed for lame fights. Do you know why? It's because he is too good.

It's actually a compliment to Mayweather because no one in the sport even came close to making him fight, a fight exciting enough for him to lose, except for one.

Mayweather has never been challenged by anyone besides Castillio. Castillo is perhaps the only one who has given Floyd more problems than he could handle, at least in their first fight. In fact, a lot of people had Mayweather loosing, including me. If it weren't for the judges, Mayweather wouldn't have been unbeaten all this time.

This means Mayweather will fight if you force him to. Proves to be a harder task than it seems because out of 40 fights, only one was able to make Floyd fight, Castillo.

That's why Pacquiao is a suitable opponent for Mayweather. Pacquiao has the best chance of making Floyd fight because of his explosive, offensive driven style that somewhat resembles Castillo's. He also has the reputation to walk trough tremendous welter weight punches. He proved that in the Cotto fight. That's why the fight would be very interesting to a lot of people. It's uncertain who will ultimately impose their will. Can Mayweather negate Pacquiao's attacks and nullify them? Can Pacquiao push Mayweather around and bash him? How will Mayweather prevent that from happening? How can he stop Pacquiao from coming forward?
How can he make it a boring fight?

It's Hard to be Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the best fighter of this generation. He's unbeaten record proves his worth and the names under his resume speaks volumes. He has beaten everyone who dared(1st Castillo fight is an exception) flawlessly and easily without a scratch. That's why he's called "Pretty Boy" Floyd. With all his success people still deny him of the respect he deserves. All because of Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao ventured to the welterweight division and started taking over like a storm. Mayweather had his chance a couple of years ago, but he chose to retire. Pacquiao is constantly moving up in weight to stamp on bigger men, while Mayweather sits and watch. And because of that everyone started comparing.

However, Floyd will never be like Pacquiao. And he would never dare to be because he doesn't need to. Mayweather is a very intelligent fighter, and a defensive master. He amplifies what he's got to the fullest and that is his quickness. He evades everything thrown at him and avoid serious damage. If he suddenly turned aggressive like Pacquiao, he will suffer because he lacks power.

The style he has developed to perfection is boring to a lot of people, so there isn't much Mayweather can do. Though he's dominated almost all of his fight, he fails to capture boxing's attention. Pacquiao on the other hand, exceeded every expectations, and then some. Pacquiao will overshadow anything he does and will be doing in the future. The only way out he's got is to beat Pacquiao via sensational knock out. But until then, he might never get the respect he wants, not even with a fight against Mosley will give him what he longed, and still longing for.

It's Hard to be Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao has been juggling from showbiz, haters, politics, loyal fans, and of course boxing.

Paquiao will be running for congress in the Philippines in May. There will be tremendous pressure because losing might, if not for certain affect his campaign.

Pacquiao also suffered a little in showbiz when he recently was rumored to be involved with a young actress. He denies it, but Jinkee might start thinking else.

The Mayweathers has been very vocal in accusing him of using PEDs(Performance Enhancing Drugs) which led to a legal battle. Pacquiao suing Mayweather for defamation. Mayweather may have found his button, because he's heavily angered by these accusations.

With all these distractions, will Pacquiao be ready, as usual, by fight night? or will all these distractions finally catch up to him. Pacquiao-Clottey is only a month away. Based on their past records, this will prove to be a fight that will go the distance. Once again, he will have to deviate from all of it and concentrate about the task at hand. A fight with Mayweather is still a possibility, but he will have to prepare for Clottey first.

Antonio Margarito to Fight Pacquiao in The Future? Why?

There are talks about a Margarito come-back in the Pacquiao-Clottey undercards, If Antonio Margarito can get a license to fight in Texas. Margarito, once caught using plaster of paris (a substance that hardens when wet) in his gloves, is once again being allowed or considered to fight following a year of suspension under one of the biggest fight of the year.

Antonio Margarito is the one who gave Miguel Cotto (who seemingly taking control of the welterweight division at that time) the first beating of his career, though one has to suspect that Margarito did cheat in that fight. Cotto was winning the first half of the fight, but after only a couple of rounds Cotto's face started to become a huge mess. Margarito's pain-inflicting punches forced Cotto to backpedal and become more defensive. Cotto, bewildered by this unusual power that Margarito is displaying, can only do as such. In the end, Cotto can no longer hold off the tremendous pressure that Margarito is imposing upon him. Sensing Cotto weakening, Margarito dominated the late rounds leaving Cotto down on his knees battered. Margarito's unforgiving assault forced Cotto's corner to stop the fight. Based on the outcome, I highly doubt that margarito did't cheat, and so does a lot of boxing fans (specially Cotto's).

The questions remains (assuming Margarito cheated).
Could Cotto have outboxed Margarito all the way through, if he wasn't being hit with bricks? Can Cotto withstand Margarito's attack, or would the pressure be too much for Cotto to handle even without the illegal hand wraps? We will never know.

Margarito's cheating only came to light coming in to the Mosley fight. Nazim Richardson, Mosley's trainer, noticed the wraps and told the commission to confiscate them as soon as possible. The fight continued, and Mosley gave Margarito the beating he will never forget! Clearly, Margarito was out of it because he knew that he got caught and he was in trouble. Worrying about the confiscated hand wraps instead of Mosley, got his azz kicked. Mosley pounded him with powerful strait right hand counters again and again until he crumbled. After about a month after the fight, the investigation concluded that it was indeed an attempt to cheat by Margarito. The wraps were loaded.

After proven guilty, Antonio Margarito is charged with a year of suspension (which is absurd). His trainer, who took all the blame, is banned for life in boxing. If you ask me, Margarito should never fight ever again, and they should both be punished accordingly. I can't believe these people (TopRank included) are even considering him to fight again when he should be in jail. I can't believe people wants to see him fight.

How can people forgive and forget so quickly?

Nonito Donaire Vic Darchinian Rematch. Who You Got?

Nonito Donaire was so impressive in the first fight, it wouldn't surprise me if he comes in the ring as the favorite in their up coming rematch. Vic "The Raging Bull" Darchinyan was terrorizing the lower weight classes when he met Nonito. He's beating everybody down with his jaw breaking left hand. In fact, he literally did break Nonito's younger brother Glen's jaw during their fight forcing him to quit. Nonito looking for revenge, stepped down in weight and challenged Darchinyan. Darchinyan, being as cocky and confident as he is accepted the challenge without any hesitation. The bigger man Nonito dominated the first few rounds countering effectively. The left hand counter by Donaire proved to be the most effective punch against an over confident Darchinyan who came after him without any concern about getting countered. After a couple of rounds Darchinyan slowly getting his left hand in, but Nonito brushed it off like it was nothing. Finally, in the fifth round Nonito caught Darchinyan with a perfect left hook counter while Darchinyan was in his way in.

This rematch, if ever gets made, will be very entertaining to watch. After Darchinyan beat former lb4lb Cristian Mijares and the dangerous brawler Gorge Arce, he seems to be much improved from the time he met Nonito. It'd be interesting to see just how much and if it is enough to beat Nonito this time around.

Mayweather Outshines Pacquiao - Clottey

Mayweather seems to have only one thing on his mind, to outshine Pacquiao. Since their falling out, Mayweather has been looking for another fight that would give him the doe and the p4p throne back. He had a lot of options, but when Pacquiao chose Clottey(a top welterweight) to fight, it narrowed his list of potential opponent in to just one. Mayweather can't afford to lose his spot, if he firmly believes he hasn't lost it already to Pacquiao. The only way for him to stay a step above Pacquiao is to fight someone a step above Clottey, but there isn't anybody left except for Mosley. He can't fight Cotto because he was brutally beaten by Pacquiao, a feat I'm not sure Mayweather can duplicate or surpass. He can't fight Andre Berto because he just backed out of the Mosley fight to help his hometown of Haiti. He not gonna fight Paul Williams because he will lose. Nobody wants to see Antonio Margarito after he cheated, attempted to cheat. The only option left is to step up and face Mosley. Only a win against Mosley can make him outshine Pacquiao.
