Imajica Retrospective - Best of 2015

2016-02-02T15:27:00.000+08:00

Well here it is, our annual look back at the year that was (oh, and happy belated New Year to you all!).

2015... man it went quick! We started the year on the beach at Cottesloe and finished the year on the beach at Rottnest. As you'll see the ocean would become somewhat of a central theme.

In between we went down south (heaps!), hung out in vineyards around Margaret River & Jarrahdale, spent some time with the kangaroos in the forest down at Donnelly River, ventured out to a place called East Wyening Mission in the north east wheat belt, went to Rotto, went down south again... and again... and again, went back to Rotto....

I'm sure you've got the picture. It was a well traveled and adventurous year!

We met & worked with some amazing people. Thank You to all our wonderful clients for having us a part of your amazing weddings, we were truly honoured and fully stoked to be there! And a big thanks to the awesome vendors we worked with along the way, you all rock.

And so, drumroll please... here's our 2015.

And here's to 2016!

Looking forward to hearing from you all in 2016. All the best to everyone for a great year ahead!

Jess & Adam - Yallingup + Injidup wedding

2015-09-16T13:52:00.001+08:00

What a cracker of a day this one was! Jess & Adam's wedding was a while back now (don't know why I haven't posted it earlier!) but nonetheless I had a freakin' awesome day with these two.

Adam & his groomsmen got ready at the Injidup Surf Shack. It's pretty much a little fishing shack tucked away in the hills overlooking Injidup beach, it's a super cool space and has mad views!
With no neighbours to speak of it's the perfect place for the lads to spend the night before getting hitched.

And Jess, I tip my hat to you. You are one seriously fearless bride! She dragged her dress down some crazy goat trails, climbed boulders and jumped barbed wire fences to get the photos she wanted. Did I mention she looked stunning? Yes she did indeed.

Thanks for your awesomeness you two, this photographer couldn't have asked for more.

Huge congrats Jess & Adam, what an awesome day!

Thanks for having me along, stoked to be a part of it.

Amanda & Michael - Xanadu Winery, Margaret River

2015-07-10T14:46:00.000+08:00

I usually type out a little blurb about the wedding day however Amanda took the time to send us an amazing email thanking us for the day and our hard work. Except to say that I had a simply wonderful day with Amanda & Michael at Xanadu Winery (incredible venue by the way) I don't think anything I could write could top Amanda's words. So read on...

"Hi Andrew,

I
wanted to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your work
providing the beautiful photos for our wedding. We were over the moon
with the result. It was such a nice surprise to open the box and find
not only the digital files we ordered (beautifully packaged) but also a
recording of our wedding speeches and a beautiful album. The album
layout and photos you selected are perfect.

When
we first contacted Imajica for our wedding photography I
was very much out of my depth and had no idea what to order or what
questions to ask. Both you and Carissa were so very helpful with all
your advice through out the process and very accommodating to my many
emails and questions.

It
was a blessing to have your ideas and experience, as you knew exactly
what I wanted and was able to guide me in the right direction. I was
amazed at what you were able to achieve working within my budget. On the
day your calm, cruisy attitude was a godsend, as I was nervous as all
hell! We felt very comfortable with you around and Michael and I were
able to relax and enjoy the day. We appreciated you staying later and
the nightime shots were a great experience that was an extra special for
us. This was actually one of our highlights of the whole day, as it
gave us a moment to sneak out and spend time together taking it all in.
We love the final product. We felt so comfortable and the shots you took
 are amazing.

I really felt like you understood exactly what I
had envisioned and you provided far beyond expectations. I hope you can
use my recommendation so that other brides can have the same wonderful
experience I had.

Thanks again,
Amanda & Michael Newman"

All I can say Amanda & Michael is Thank You for having me!

Imajica Retrospective - Best of 2014.

2015-02-26T14:40:00.000+08:00

Well it's that time of the year again. And a happy belated new year to you all! It's been a busy start to the year so you'll have to forgive our tardiness on getting this out to you all.

I'll keep the intro short and sweet.

2014 was an amazing year. All our clients were just brilliant. Their weddings took us to some incredible places. All over Perth, down south, Rottnest. We even went as far as Kangaroo Island over in South Australia!

Certainly made it a difficult task narrowing down the images. As a result this is a bloody big blog post so grab some popcorn and a comfy chair.

So without further ado, welcome to our 4th installment of the Imajica Retrospective.

Here's 2014 in a nutshell!

So there you have it, hope you enjoyed our little look back on 2014 as much as we enjoyed being there and doing it through out the course of the year.

Thank You to all our lovely clients, you're all awesome! And cheers to all the amazing vendors we also got to work with.

Wishing you all good health & happiness for the coming year from all of us at Imajica Photography, looking forward to hearing from you all in 2015!

Holly & Steve - Mauritius wedding

2014-02-07T00:20:00.000+08:00

I first met Holly & Steve at a wedding earlier in the year. Steve was MC at Erin and Sean's wedding out in the Swan Valley. We got chatting, had a few laughs and I thought "He's cool".

Didn't think anything more of it.

About a month later I receive a call. "Andrew, it's Steve here mate, from Erin and Sean's wedding. Holly & I are getting married in November, we want you for our photography. We're doing it in Mauritius".

Umm, wait a minute... what? Mauritius?

It's not everyday that wedding clients fly you across the ocean to some idyllic tropical paradise. As you can imagine I was happy to comply.

However no wedding is complete without a few hurdles. A cyclone sitting a few hundred kilometers away off the coast of Madagascar, groomsmen's outfits lost in transit. Little things like that.

But the big day went off without a hitch. Except Holly & Steve of course, they got hitched

(Haha, I made a Dad joke!).

To Holly, Steve and all their guests, thanks for the memories. Crazy fun day!

Hope I kept my end of the bargain.

Andrew

Congrats Holly & Steve, awesome day in an awesome location with awesome people!

Thanks for flying me over there for your big day (and not to mention putting me up in style while I was there!).

Natalie & Sean - Crown Perth

2014-01-20T14:28:00.000+08:00

Here's one that's been sitting on a hard drive for a while.

Natalie & Sean were married last year and I've been wanting to post their day for ages. It's just a little thing called parenthood got in the way (yep, babies make life busy... but in the best way possible!).

"So why did you want to post this one so much?" I hear you ask. Well, it was just damn good fun!

The bridesmaids laid it on hard for the groom and his entourage when they arrived at Natalie's parent's house. There was a price to pay for the guys to enter the bride's domain. The looks of disgust on the groomsmen's face while trying to eat the cold sour pies says it all. Proper respects were paid with traditional tea ceremonies at both parent's houses then it was off to St Mary's in Leederville to make it all official.

Seems the pastor was a stand up comedian in a past life, he had the crowd in stitches during the ceremony. His delivery may have been lighthearted but his message was clear, be good to each other!

I certainly don't see that being too hard for these two. Throughout the rest of the day I saw just how madly & head over heels in love Natalie & Sean are with each other, the evidence is overwhelming!

After an afternoon of laughs & shenanigans we all headed to Crown Perth. Their reception kicked on in the always amazing Astral Room. The groomsmen made quite an entrance, think Chariots of Fire in super slow motion... with added drama!

Natalie & Sean took straight to the dance floor and totally owned it.

From there the good times just rolled on into the night!

Ah yes, good times indeed.

Congrats Natalie & Sean, awesome day spent with awesome people. Side splitting laughter was a bonus!

Thanks for having me along!

Imajica Retrospective - Best of 2013.

2014-01-12T11:56:00.000+08:00

So here we are again, 2013 done & dusted, 2014 ahead of us like a bag of mixed candy waiting in their wrappers.

But before we head on down into the new year I'd like you all to consider the two words in bold type below...

moment mo·ment [moh-muhnt]
— noun

1. a short indefinite period of time.

2. a specific instant or point in time.

3. the moment the present point of time.

fleeting fleet·ing [flee-ting]
— adjective

passing swiftly; vanishing quickly; transient; transitory: a fleeting glance.

Looking at all these little moments while I was pulling this year's retrospective together reconfirmed to me
how these two words are so integral to what we do.

I don't think about it too often, I feel these two words are so over used.

But it reconfirmed for me that this is what shooting weddings is all about. These fleeting little moments that you can't get back.
A look, a smile, a tear, a wink, a hug, a laugh... They're gone in a flash, never to return.

In case you haven't guessed yet this is the theme for our review of 2013, fleeting moments.

So what were our highlights for 2013? Hard to say really. We travelled far and wide for weddings last year, all over WA and beyond.
We went to Rotto. We went down south. We went to Sydney. We went to Mauritius.

Oh, and Carissa & I became parents.

I shortlisted 495 images from tens of thousands. My goal was 50 images, I managed to get it down to 71.
There's something here from every wedding we did last year. There may even be one of yours truly stealing kisses from one of our fabulous brides!

It only seems like a few months ago that I wrote "Well didn't 2012 just fly by?"

So... where did 2013 go?

Who knows really. All I know is that it was full of fabulous moments and it was fleeting...

And so here it is, our 3rd annual retrospective. Happy viewing punters.

Jade & Clay - Matilda Bay, Perth

2013-12-05T16:30:00.000+08:00

We've been a bit quite with the blog this year haven't we?

It's not through lack of trying, that's for sure! Had a truckload of weddings this year, it's simply been noses to the grindstone. 2013 has been a good one.

Anyhoo, here's one from way back in February, Jade & Clay's wedding at Matilda Bay.

It was like hanging out with a bunch of mates with these two and bridal party. "Can we stop at the bottle shop on the way to the beach?" Well, it's February, it's about 35 degrees, ummm, yea, let's do that!

Seriously, my belly ached from laughing all day.

Well, I won't say too much more except that Matilda Bay restaurant is one of the finest venues in Perth for a wedding reception, for one you simply can't beat that view.

So happy viewing punters!

Congrats Jade & Clay, awesome day! Thanks for having me along.

Chantelle & Sean - Clarke Is, Sydney

2013-08-12T15:33:00.000+08:00

Chantelle & Sean are my two favorite wedding videographers ever. So when it came time for them to choose a wedding photographer for their big day I was pretty damn stoked to be picked as the man for the job!

However this was never going to be so straightforward. You see Sean's family are all in Perth, Chantelle's family are all on the other side of the planet in Canada.

Mmmm, what to do? Have a wedding in Sydney of course!

So flights were booked and off I went.

Chantelle & Sean planned their wedding in all the best spots, from getting ready at the amazing Sir Stamford hotel, ceremony at stunning Clarke island in the middle of the harbour with the day ending in perfect style at the Sydney Opera House's Point Marque.

They even squeezed in a harbour cruise for their international guests to take in the sights.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. Drum roll please...

I present to you the brilliant Mr + Mrs Crank!

Congrats Chantelle & Sean, what an amazing day! Thanks for having me along.

Elyshia & Tony - Rottnest Island, WA

2013-07-18T11:36:00.000+08:00

Everyone loves a beach wedding. And I ask you is there a better beach wedding location in Perth than Rottnest Island?

Seriously, we may as well have been in the mediterranean.

In my mind Rottnest is so underrated for weddings. People travel overseas and up north to find places like this to get married. And yet we have this jewel of an island right on our doorstep.

And then you have Elyshia & Tony. A nicer couple you couldn't hope to meet.

I had the pleasure of spending the day with them and their family + friends while they tied the knot down on Pinky's beach under the lighthouse.

Fantastic people, amazing places. What could possibly go wrong?

Thank goodness the weather cooperated!

Congrats Elyshia & Tony, awesome day! Thanks for getting me on the ferry!

Nat & Josh - Awesome backyard wedding, Perth WA

2013-06-18T16:00:00.000+08:00

This was one cool event.

Natalie's brother owns a rather large property in Perth's southern suburbs so rather than fuss with churches and reception venues Natalie & Josh simply decked out her brother's backyard.

And it looked awesome!

No driving around from one spot to the other, no fussing with event managers.

You know what they say, the simple things in life are often the best.

Couldn't agree more!

Catherine & Jack - Sandalford winery

2013-01-25T01:43:00.000+08:00

2013, off to a flying start!

Our first wedding for the year was Catherine and Jack's big day at Kings Park & Sandalford Estate and man, there was some serious love in the air! I'm not even going to try to describe it in words, just take a look at the resulting images.

I knew it would be a great day as they were referred by their friends Kelly & Chris whose wedding I shot almost a year ago to the day (and thoroughly enjoyed doing so I might add though I remember it was 38 degrees!).

Being the start of January it was a pretty warm day for Cat & Jack as well. However as the afternoon started to wind down and the sun slowly sank over the vines out at Sandalford the hot day became a beautiful, balmy summer's evening.

Was exactly what you're seeing in your mind's eye right now...

Perfect.

Congrats Cat & Jack. Thanks for having me along for the day, lovely hanging out with you all!

Imajica Retrospective - Best of 2012

2013-01-24T03:45:00.001+08:00

Well didn't 2012 just fly by?

Before we plunge into 2013 thought we'd present our 2nd annual Imajica retrospective, little trip back through the quite moments, happy tears, the belly laughs and old fashioned mad capped fun from the year that was 2012. The blog got neglected late in the year as we had our busiest Oct/Nov ever so we got quite a backlog of awesome stuff to show you all in coming months.

First though, a few facts, figures, ups, downs & milestones...

Busy twelve months - We shot 22 weddings last year and delivered on average 700 finished images to each of our lovely clients (give or take a few depending on how long the day was) + some amazing feature albums, that's a lot of editing work!

Cause and effect - All that editing and post production gave us the opportunity to try out a few things, really refine our processes and consistently get that classic timeless look you've come to know us for... Also keeps all our clients super happy, win - win!

Happy days - our Sydney associate photographer, Sarah, announced late last year that she and her husband are expecting. She's due in April and we wish them much love and laughter.

End of an era - Unfortunately our search to find a replacement photographer in Sydney proved fruitless so with a lump in our throats and heavy hearts we've drawn the curtains on our Sydney studio.

It's not all bad - Closing Sydney means we're now 100% back in WA and can put all our energy & effort into our Perth clients & studio (don't forget though, Andrew will still travel to where ever it is you choose to have your wedding!).

As a result - Our bookings are up quite a bit on the same time last year, seems we've become a little bit popular since returning to Perth in early 2011 (so if you're thinking of getting us on board for your wedding later this year or next year don't leave it too long!).

One door closes, another opens... - As sad as we are to see Sarah moving on in Sydney we got lucky here in Perth. Happy to welcome Rebecca on board, she's one heck of a talented photographer. So double the chance we'll be available for your wedding date, woot woot!

Anyway, enough from us.

Onto the goods...

Image above by Sarah for Imajica Photography

So there you have it, hope you enjoyed our little look back on 2012 as much as we enjoyed creating it through out the year that was.

Wishing you all good health & happiness for the coming year from all of us at Imajica Photography, looking forward to hearing from you in 2013!

Lok Ting & Robert's beach wedding, Perth

2012-12-10T15:08:00.000+08:00

I love a good beach wedding...

Warm sun on your face, sand between your toes, the sound of the surf crashing in the background.

Lok Ting & Robert tied the knot in fantastic yet simple style with a close friends & family from Malaysia and all over WA on a picture perfect day down on Bennion beach. And apart from a little trip to Bold Park the whole day was all about the beach!

They even snuck out from their reception at Floreat SLSC to sit in the sand dunes and watch their first sunset together as husband and wife. They lingered a while longer after I finished up, laughing up a storm, watching that fiery orange ball disappear over the far edge of the ocean.

The perfect end to a perfect day.

No doubt about it, the simple things in life are always the best!

Congrats you two! Thanks for having me along.

Fresh Produce - new album range, yay!

2012-11-22T17:47:00.000+08:00

Wow, November already. Been ages since we posted anything on the blog. After a nice break through winter we we're well rested before plunging into the new wedding season at the start of October, I've barely come up for air since!

So we've got lots of good stuff coming up real soon for you.

Winter wasn't a total 'tools down' break. We've had a new album in mind for quite a while now and spent the colder months doin' plenty of R&D with album suppliers & paper stocks.

And we're stoked to finally introduce you to the latest addition to our album range...

Meet the Vivaldi Fine Art album from PMAA.

Let me just say that these are no ordinary album. They're printed on fine art matte paper stock with seamless spreads (no gap in the middle of the pages, awesome!) which allows for simply amazing design freedom. They're available in a range of cool leathers and fabrics to complement your home decor and are delivered in a matching slip case.

Oh, did we mention we now have acrylic album stands available so you can display your album for you and your peeps to look at ALL THE TIME? Yea, way awesome!

So between Seldex & PMAA we're happy to be offering you albums from two of Australia's (if not the planet's) best professional album makers.

Get in your car now, catch a bus or get ya skates on and come check out these amazing albums for yourself.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Tracy & Keith, UWA & Frasers.

2012-08-02T11:47:00.000+08:00

I'm kinda lost for words on this one...

I remember meeting Tracy & Keith at one of the bridal expos almost a year beforehand when Keith politely refused my offer for us to send some more details via email. These two asked a few clever questions and quietly moved on & continued with their wedding research.

We see hundreds of people at these expos so I really can't say why I remember something so fleeting and seemingly so random...

Anyway, they rang me the week after and pretty much booked on the spot. And they've been lovely to have as clients ever since! I knew when we did their engagement shoot that the wedding day would be a cracker and I tells ya I was on the money.

Tracy looked simply stunning in a Mia gown from Collezione Bridal, I do believe Keith was pretty chuffed when she walked into the church... he certainly looked pretty happy with himself.

It was a long and busy day to be sure with a combination of traditional elements and some hilarious game play at the reception. But Tracy, Keith and their bridal party easily took it all in their stride, by 9:45pm they were all whooping it up on the dance floor.

Woot woot... awesome.

Congrats Tracy & Keith and thanks for having me, although it was a long day it was awesome to spend it with such a happy & relaxed bunch of people!

Boys will be boys...

2012-07-19T12:51:00.000+08:00

I couldn't resist posting this sequence from Rebecca & Steve's wedding back in February.

So I was hanging with the bridal party in their hotel room while they had a chill and a few drinks before heading off to the reception. The champagne comes out, a joke is made, the joke becomes a bet ("Betcha ya can't catch this cork") and the champagne cork becomes a missile with the Groom as the target. Look closely at the third shot, you can see the cork in the far right next to the chair.

Not telling what hotel it was, don't want them sending out the cleaning bill (though I'm sure others have done worse!).

T'was quite hilarious.

I love my job.

Boys will be boys... mayhem generally ensues.

Ellenor & Jason, Milbrook Winery WA

2012-05-06T09:41:00.000+08:00

Our first wedding at Milbrook winery!

And hopefully not our last, Ellenor & Jason couldn't have chosen a more amazing venue for their wedding. It was all the more special in that many of their family & friends made the trek from far flung corners of the world like Ireland & Norway. Their efforts were rewarded with perfect weather in an awesome location.

The highlight of the day? It's a tough call.

We reckon it was the look on Jason's face when he saw the Mustang that Ellenor had secretly arranged to take him to Milbrook... stoked!

Oh, and also the look on Jason's face when he saw Ellenor walking down the aisle, she looked simply amazing.

...maybe it was just spending the day with two people so perfectly in love with each other.

Like I said, tough call!

Congrats to you both and thanks for having us!

2012-04-28T09:52:00.000+08:00

Had a blast at Lauren & Paul's wedding back in March, these two planned their day to perfection.

We had a good few hours between their ceremony and arrival at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club for the reception so it made good sense to hit some choice locations for photography.

Was kinda like a whirlwind tour of Perth!

Lauren's sister brought the house down at the reception with one of the best & well crafted speeches we've ever heard. Was all high spirits by the time everyone hit the dance floor, got a little crazy actually...

Here's to the good times!

Congrats Lauren & Paul, was a crazy little day but so much fun!

Kids being kids Part 2 - Ocea & Bailey

2012-03-29T15:52:00.000+08:00

We recently had the opportunity to something a little different with some family portraits.

Bailey loves his art & painting. Ocea is a bookworm and loves the odd game of Blackjack. So the idea was to create a collection of images that reflected these qualities...

Oh, and it had to fun too!

I'm thinkin' we covered all bases, the feedback from Ocea & Bailey's Ma 'n' Pa was all good...

And we all had some fun!

Ellenor & Jason - Pre wedding shoot

2012-03-13T12:20:00.000+08:00

Caught up with Ellenor & Jason last week for their pre wedding shoot.

Perfect day for it, a stroll along an almost deserted beach, sand in between the toes, a refreshingly cold bottle of white to share and a fantastic sunset.

I think anyone would agree that Perth is one of the best places on the planet to live...

Like I said... Perfect!

Can't wait for the wedding you two, gonna be awesome with a capital A!

Kelly & Chris | Kings Park, Western Australia

2012-01-27T14:24:00.023+08:00

Been a busy little January... and a hot one too! We spent a Friday afternoon with Kelly & Chris as they tied the knot. Was pretty hot down there on Como jetty (38 degrees according to the weather bureau!), suffice to say we didn't hang for too long before seeking shady salvation at Kings Park.

Dancing, laughter, mayhem and good times ensued...

Noice!

BTW, gotta say Kelly is a style maestro ( maestra, maestress?? ), the way she had their reception styled was freakin' awesome!

When I made mention of how awesome I thought it was to Chris he said "Yep, that's why I married her".

Once again... Noice!

Congrats Kelly & Chris, hope you enjoy some cooler weather down south for your honeymoon!

Welcome to 2012!

The first week of the new year isn't even finished and we're back into it. Our first wedding for the year was a beautiful afternoon spent with Sylvie & Trent at Mulberry Farm. Special mention to Sylvie's family & Bridesmaids who traveled all the way over here from France, awesome! Luckily Perth wasn't in the middle of a typical summer heat wave.

Congrats Sylvie & Trent! See ya's when ya back from your honeymoon.

With 2011 done and dusted we thought we should pause to reflect on what we got up to before we plunge head long into 2012.

Here's our top 50 images from last year for your viewing pleasure (and what a task it was to get it down to this number!).

Hope you enjoy the show as much as we enjoyed creating it!

Happy New Year from all of us at Imajica Photography, looking forward to seeing you soon!
