My Mother always says "Love nothing more than man." That came from the time, I left a pair of Gucci shades in a bathroom stall to never see them again. That was twelve years ago and even though Mother knows best, it feels like it was yesterday. To be human is to err and when you loose things it is a form of error. When I was a kid my grandmother and mother thought that if something wasn't glued to me there was a 200 percent chance I would somehow loose it. Just a few weeks ago, I lost a scarf pictured below and just this morning my heart felt a slight ache for that ombre blue wool scarf I received in a gift bag. Have you ever lost something and does it still hurt to think about it?

Spring has been quite a disappointment this year. Here we are some twenty plus days in and most of us here in the Big Apple are still wearing wool coats and scarves. Yes, I'm griping, spring is the time, I get to throw on one of my many vintage rain and shine coats and give life. Unfortunately, as late as last week, I would have looked normal in a fur. Packing away my woolens has been delayed and I have given up on going bare leg until I both me and Mother Nature decide to thaw out. With cold weather, my hair and skin is has taken a beating. Don't let anyone lie to you, your skin, hair and nails are affected by the weather not the date. Before you go bare leg make sure you exfoliate, moisturize and self tan. A dry, hair pale leg is no bueno no matter what.

Macy's Flower Power Returns For Spring

The groundhog was wrong, but at Macy's Herald Square, Spring is here. On Friday morning, I attended the press preview of the 39th annual Macy's Flower Show, entitled The Painted Garden. Inspired by the flora and fauna of South East Asia, the showcase of blooms, spices, fruit and color specific to that area takes you out of the hustle and bustle of one of the busiest intersections in the world to a tranquil kaleidoscope of earthly beauty. Due to ongoing renovations, the Flower Show is currently housed in a tent located on Broadway Plaza adjacent to the mega store with additional vivid window displays keeping with the theme. The highlight of the artistic showcase, is a life sized elephant draped in live flowers similar to the ceremonial style of India. Although, you're still bundled up in your winter wardrobe, pop into the Macy's Flower Show during regular store hours, now until April 7th, and at least get your own peak at spring.

Stephen Burrows, Disco Era Designer Retrospective

Last Thursday, I ventured Uptown to the City Museum of New York for the Target sponsored retrospective "When Fashion Danced" in honor of living fashion legend, Stephen Burrows. With a dynamic guest list of fashion's who's who, the reception was an emotional creative fete of diversity. A mixture of fashion's old and new guard, uptown and downtown, Black and White, American and European, those that attended put their differences aside for a united support for Burrows. "When Fashion Danced" highlights Burrows career beginning in the 1970s when he was dressing Diana Ross and Liza Minelli during the disco days of Studio 54. In an industry with very few designers of color, Burrows has broken barriers but has still felt the blunt force of a very monochromatic fashion field, none the less the man with rainbow pops on silhouettes, had brightened an industry that has for too long had a brown-out. To view "When Fashion Danced" a retrospective of Stephen Burrows, head to the City Museum of New York on Fifth Avenue and 103rd Street and see the works of a living legend.

Over the past few years, I've become quite jaded over designer collaborations with big box stores. It started to look like every season some young designer was looking to raise capital and join forces with a major retailer known for having a better pharmacy than fashion department. Bored with the cheap quality and the overall watering down of fashion brands, I stopped buying into the hysteria and secretly boycotted a number of designer collaborations. Duro Olowu for JCP actually got me back into being excited about designer collaborations. Olowu's namesake line is what I like to call
Sub- Saharan Pucci. Olowu's prints are a combination of ethnic, tribal and whimsical artistic vibrancy and maintained its punch and pop with the JCP launch the beginning of this month. Bling, Big Hair and no Beyonce: The Oscar's Fashion Review

Last night's Oscar's has to be the gayest and I say that as a compliment. Between the song and dance acts the plethora of big hair and sequins, I swore Vegas and Rupaul's Drag Race had a baby. Unlike, the golden era of I Don't Give A Flying F*ck Oscar Fashions from the late 1960s to the mid 1980s. The red carpet fashions for the past decade or so has become very safe. Even with Celine Dion's homage to Kris Kross in 1999, the days of Bob Mackie dressing Barbra Streisand or a tuxedo clad Diana Ross are long gone. If Joan Rivers doesn't understand it, you can't wear it. The awards were still entertaining and I am still in shock that Magic Mike wasn't nominated for Best Picture, there were still some stunning moments on the red carpet and stage for the gayest Oscar's ever.

Channing Tatum is Better Than Any Bag or Shoe

Hubba Hubba, Channing Tatum in a tux is better than any Jimmy Choo shoe. His wife, fellow actress Jenna Dewan, had one of the best accessories of the night besides an actual Oscar.

Bury Me In Sequins

Besides my closet, Studio 54 and a Vegas revue, I've never seen as much sequins as I did last night. Jessica Chaistan kicked it off as Jessica Rabbit coming to life, as did a long list of ladies including Meryl Streep, JHud, not once but twice, Halle Berry, Renne Zellwegger, Nicole Kidman, Stacy Kiebler and the list goes on, the ladies said screw simplicity, I'm on team bling.

Thanks For Telling Us Black Girls Rock

Dame Shirley Bassey, Jennifer Hudson and the First Lady all made some jaw dropping appearances last night. First of all Dame Bassey is 76 and between her and Jane Fonda, 70 is the new 20. Her capturing performance of Goldfinger probably had Adele crying backstage. The next cabaret act to kill it was JHud, who shut it down with a Broadway classic from a film that came out in 2006 along with a pair of earrings that had every Basketball Wife taking notes. Closing the ceremonies and saving Seth McFarlane from another roll your eye moment was First Lady, Michelle Obama who slayed with bling and bangs. Between those three I totally thought the Oscars had turned into a BET event.

Short Hair Don't Care

Charlize, Halle and Anne proved to ladies and gents that you can still be gorgeous minus long locks. The cropped looks showed off impeccable bone structure and drew the attention back to the dresses. Since she stepped on the scene Halle has reigned supreme as the short hair queen, and where Charlize and Anne did the big chop for movie roles, they could have easily added extensions but instead they get to wear bolder looks and stronger accessories with less hair as a distraction.

Beat Faces Win Awards

Say what you want Adele is a glamour puss. The big hair, the lashes, the mouth, Adele's hair and make up is always, always on point. Only 24, she channels the sophistication of old UK, a cleaned up doo-wop upscale curvy version. I want to higher her glam team ASAP.

Jane Fonda Makes Your Girl Look Like Precious

Back in the day, I watched the Jane Fonda fitness tapes because my mom and aunt were part of the 80s fitness craze. How I wish I would have kept up as I probably would have aged just like Jane. She slayed it in Versace and let's not get it twisted, not only does she look amaze for her age but she looks better than a number of women half her age who were on that red carpet last night. In the words of Lil Kim " You work more body than Jane Fonda."

New York Fashion Week is just passed the half way point and even with a little storm called Nemo, the flocks of fashion folks refused to stay indoors. The Daily Front Row, also known as the fashion week bible, celebrated it's 10th anniversary at Indochine with Heidi Klum as the host on Thursday night. Not to be outdone, HP held a fab soiree with Project Runway alumni at Skylight West where I got to chat it up with contestants from past seasons and learn about HP's newest gadgets. After finding out that season one winner Jay McCarrol is a Libra, being invited for tea with season four's Elisa Jimenez and dropping some theater geek facts on Emilio Sosa from season seven, I headed to Stone Rose Lounge for The Daily + JCP Duro Collection Launch Party. The Glitterati were out in full force , with notable folks in art, design, fashion and retail all to support the Prince of Prints; Duro Olowu. The JCP party was so great, I headed back the next day with a more sober mind to see up and close the collection of home, lifestyle and clothing set to hit stores on March 1st. I've been a great fan of Duro for quite some time and when I learned of the JCP collaboration, I was more excited than a kid in a candy store. I'd finally get my small budget hands on one of his pieces and now I can die a happy slave to fashion, well until next season.

Allergies and all, I am a die hard lover of fragrance. Call me old fashion but, I believe that you are never fully dressed without a fragrance. My mother, grandmother and aunt have always been perfume buffs. They have the classics, White Linen, Shalimar etc and they also are open to the new classics Daisy, Angel etc.. My generation are either fragrance lovers who wear scent everyday or the complete polar opposite who believe fragrance is old school. Beer Can Chicken

Not to sure if you know but I like to cook. Am I a gourmet top chef wannabe, nope just a domestic cosmopolitan woman who believes that you can save money by making one meal a week. So here's one of my favorite meals, Beer Can Chicken. It's cheap, it's fun and it taste amazing.

Beer Can Chicken

1 Whole Chicken between 3-4 pounds

1 garlic clove chopped

1 Lime cut in half followed by other half cut into half giving you 3 sections

Dry Rub

Paprika, salt, pepper, onion, dry garlic, cilantro, cumin and oregano)

1 can of Budweiser Beer

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Remove giblets from chicken, if you like brine overnight in a salt and water bath. Or wash both inner and outer part of chicken and pat dry.

Take dry rub moisture and rub on the outer part of the chicken, pulling back some of the skin and apply the rub there as well as slices of garlic, also place rub in cavity of chicken. Place one half of lime on top part of chicken cavity place the additional lime sections under skin at the breast and under skin at the back/thigh area.

Open can of beer, pour a third of it into roasting pan. Use a fork to poke a few 5 in total holes in the upper part of the can.. Place can of beer in center of roasting pan.

Grabbing chicken by the legs, position the can into the cavity so that chicken is sitting on top of the beer can and it’s sturdy in roasting pan. Place pan into oven and bake for 1 hour 45 minutes or until inner temperature of chicken is 180 degrees. Let chicken rest for 15 minutes, use gloves and tongues to remove beer can.

Clothes, clothes, clothes maybe the majority of what we think of when it comes to New York Fashion Week but hair and makeup are cohesive and worth of trend reporting as well. Check out some of the looks created at Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham and Rag + Bone with mega hair sculptor Guido who is also Creative Consultant for Redken. Using a series of Redken based products to create a little volume and a little hold. More so, hair was pulled away from the face and given some dimension and texture in the middle of the head. This maybe a trend to see, it looks like semi- big hair maybe making a comeback, are you ready?

New York Fashion Week is the twice yearly hajj for the stylish set. Ladies and some gentlemen bring out their best shoe game but the concrete jungle can bring havoc to our feet. Heels are a necessity but unless you're lucky enough to have a driver you are more likely to carry a pair of comfy flats in your bag to rescue your shouting feet.
