how was your weekend? did you enjoy a holiday weekend? i feel like we've been packing every bit of fun (and not so fun) into our days now. so busy!

i had a hankering for thrifting this weekend... and i made it happen :) i'm so fortunate to have the inlaws in town, and they took my little man to "hot-donalds" for lunch, so mama could focus in the thrift store. i haven't done that in a while. i wish i had more time though. i had only hit up one shop! i did enjoy a private sushi lunch though.. that was so nice :)
but to the deets.. want a sneak peek? there was a reason for the desired thrift shop spree... (and i'm not quite done yet).... i've discovered i'm gonna need a few things this summer...
can you guess the reason why i'm stocking up... it will be fun :)

of course, i managed to get in some knitting... and i'm loooving this yarn. gah. it's madelinetosh merino dk. and it's heaven. well it's plaid blanket... but heaven too :)

i'm working on the honey cowl. i've had this in my que for ever... and it's time i did it already :) this is a very quick and easy knit. and i'm loving the texture it's bringing to this already fabulous yarn.

i have only one skein... but if i just make the cowl narrower it will work just fine.... see?
yah. pretty...

i've also got a little something something blocking...

haha i'm starting to sense a bit of a woodsy theme here. like the colours?
now i'm off to run more errands. it never ends! lol

oh the memories! this game was so fun, but terrifying at the same time! lol. and for those of you who don't remember, it's called perfection. and you should seriously consider playing it. but be warned... it's addictive, and loud. ;)

i'm really looking forward to this weekend. i'm hoping to relax, and to knit a little bit like a crazy person. (haha). there are lots of things happening around the area... a rodeo, the highland games, a parade... i'm sure we'll have a ton of fun no matter what we do.

i've been a busy bee getting all of the knitting and crochet summer classes ready at the cloth castle.
we've got a lot in store, and i'm super excited about this class list!

if you've ever wanted to learn to knit, the summer time is a great time to learn! by the time fall rolls around, you'll be ready to tackle all of the warm wooly goodness to knit up for friends and family as gifts!

there will be an intro to knitting class offered, as well as the beginner knitting, level 2 where you'll knit this beautiful fitted jacket:

tops, tanks & tees progress!

i blinked, and it's wednesday again! these days are going by in a blurr. but i'm happy to report, i've made progress on my gemini! wahooo!

every time i work on this project, i'm loving the linen more and more. i have to say that for my first experience in knitting with 100% linen, this has been great! i would totally do it again.

it's also a bonus that now we're into our hot summer weather, the linen doesn't feel at all too warm to knit with. the project remains light and small. loove it!

i'm excited to announce that i'm only a few short inches away from the ribbing on the body! though i think i might make the top a tad longer... we'll see. i did try it on a few days ago, and i'm excited! (sooo wish i were knitting this on my knit picks though... it took a while to put the sts on scrap yarn and then put them back on the needles... ) ah well.. always worth it to make sure you are getting the gauge, and size you desire... never not try your top on...

i'm just excited to see how this will look after a proper washing. i have to admit that one of the things i'm really looking forward to is the fact that blocking the linen will be a breeze. i will just literally chuck it in the wash. when i washed my swatch, i even had it in the dryer until it was almost dry.. then let it air dry the rest of the way. how easy is that!? and it's sooo soft!

and even with having to have other wips on the needles, i just might get this baby done by the deadline!

rebecca danger sure has an awesome talent! (and the coolest name) . i have to admit, i totally felt starstruck when i met her at fibers west. she's the best though and i'm officially hooked on her monsters. and you can be sure you'll be seeing more. much much more of them over the coming months ;)

mother's day bliss...

monday sure got here fast! but it's a good thing. it means our weekend was full and fantastic! i had such a lovely mother's day.
the weather couldn't have been better, and we filled it with lots and lots of outside time.

i started out my day with a sleep in! wahoo! and then i went for a run. after that, we packed the family down to visit with gramma and papa at their trailer... and spent the afternoon outside on the beach.
you know it's summer weather when...

i love these photos of my little man...

hanging out right at the water's edge, in shorts, and sandals... and enjoying the most spectacular views...

i loved just being able to snap photos, and then knit away with the ocean breeze caressing my sun-kissed face. lol. love it!
then the hubs surprised me with a dinner date!
dinner on the patio in the sun was the perfect ending to my mother's day. :) and a great way to start the week!
now that i'm feeling refreshed and ready to tackle on this week, i'm excited about all of the new projects :)

this morning our house has been buzzing with activity! owen's grandma and papa have just arrived on the island. they'll be here just after lunch!

let me explain...

i started the gramps cardigan a while back ago.... and i showed you my progress. i'm loving the outcome so far... the cables show so well, and i really do think it would be an adorable adorable baby gift... but i've got some issues with it.
i've had other knitterly duties lately, and the sweater has been set aside for now, but every time i pick it up to work on it, i'm frustrated... because i feel like it takes more concentration and effort than i can offer it when i have so many other things on the go. i have to remember precisely where i am. tonnes of notes need to be made. which row i'm on with the cable repeats.. both on the body and on the sleeve.. how to make it all line up when join for the yoke...

anyhoo, as a result this cardi is taking much longer than i want it to take. and the poor baby i'm making it for will be 4 years old by the time i get to finishing it if i keep at this pace. so not cool.
i get that it's just a baby cardi. i should probably just suck it up and finish it...

but i've been seriously considering frogging it *gasp*... and doing the baby sophisticate instead.
because i know that i can whip that one up so quickly, and have that project completed. and this has been in my que forever. i do love this cardi as well...

i'm really torn though. i hate the idea of frogging it. i should probably finish it... and i know it's a pattern i 'll probably like the outcome of. but the gramps cardigan is also a pattern that many other knitters found frustrating because of the vagueness of the directions when it came to decreasing with the cable pattern.

so even though i'm still super undecided, i thought i'd put it out there, and get some feedback from you.
what would you do? would you suck it up and just finish it? or would you just frog it back and do another project.... it does look uber cute so far.... gah. i just don't know....

on a side note... last night, my hubby and i hauled out 3 or 4 garbage bags full of clothing, linens, blankets and shoes to donate, as well as a couple of boxes of other "stuff". we also chucked about 3 bags of garbage. (it astounds me how much we collect over the years... it's a good thing i tend to do these big "purges" about twice a year) i can't tell you how nice it is to have a clear space in our home now! perfect timing too, because his parents arrive tomorrow. and they always bring goodies.
so this means that i've re-claimed my office space. furniture has been moved around, and we have more space to play in here... :) i'll post pics eventually...

but back to the sweater issue... what would you do? frog it or knit it.... you guys are always so great for feedback, and i surely appreciate it! so thanks heaps in advance :) xo

time to chat tops, tanks & tees!

i have honestly been more than impressed and blown away by the enthusiasm you ladies have shown with this kal. honestly, you guys are incredible! and so many finished fo's already, not to mention many of you are powering through your second tops! wowza! i wish i could claim to be as quick as you on this project :)
but i do have an update for ya!

with the gauge that i've gotten, i'm knitting away on my gemini with 3.0mm needles, so keep that in mind ;) these are small needles for a top!
and i'm loving it. loooo-vvv-ing. i'm so very happy that this linen has a beautiful purpose now! it's looking great! and the yardage is awesome! i'm still only on the first skein!
i'm trying to power through the main body section now.

and with being a person who has many other wips on the go, this is the perfect pattern to pick up and put down as needed. no extra figuring needed ;) thank you sweet jane!
and now that the show is over, and i'm almost done all of the samples for the summer classes, i'm hoping to just breeze through the rest of this top. i'm really really looking forward to draping myself in linen. :)

i have to admit though, i'm finding it so hard not to cast on for another fabulous top before i'm finished with the gemini ;) my que grows by the hour! of course, too bad my yarn budget didn't follow suit ;)
last night i was up with this persistant cough, and i honestly could not stop thinking about malabrigo rasta yarn. and dreaming of colourways. haha. i honestly almost got up just to check them all out.

i am so enjoying this kal though, and i'm super excited to have a top for the summer! wahoo!
my favourite thing has to be just seeing all of you lovely ladies chatting away in the ravelry group though. seriously, so awesome!

that's right. i'm on the lookout for the perfect sweater yarn, in worsted weight ;) usually my go-to yarn is cascade. i loooove cascade... but i wonder if i'm missing out on some other lovely treasure...

one of the reasons i love cascade so much is not only the awesome colourways, but the affordability of the yarn. if i could afford a sweater's worth in malabrigo i'd totally splurge for it....
but am i being too narrow minded?
do you have an absolute fave go-to worsted weight yarn?
i might just end up using the cascade, and i'll be totally happy with it... but you know, i'm completely open to suggestions ;)

of course, once the yarn is chosen, i have to pick colour... tricky tricky business for me. this is going to be a striped sweater...
so then i'm also open to suggestions ;) tricky not because i don't know what goes well together, i just love all of the colourways. but ummmm i'm not knitting a rainbow sweater.

i have to say i'm proud of myself, i did it in 58:08 and i'm already excited already for the next one in june. so between now and june, i'm working on speed training, thanks so much to my running mentor. honestly i wouldn't have been able to embrace running the way i do if it wasen't for her. she's the best. :)

and i immediately have to get back into the schedule of life again :) i have the mother's day craft fair this upcoming weekend. and goodness i'm looking forward to it :) so many cute little creations happening here. i can't wait to show you! but this also means, my knitting has to be faster than lightening. ;)

i've promised you something for 2 days now.... and now someone wants to say hi...

remember the big stack of yarn i showed you? well it's quickly taking form! i'll be having an official "summer classes" post with all of the details... but in the meantime, i thought you might like a few peeks. no?

i'm loving all of the spring colours i'm seeing, and i'm getting so excited about the classes i'll be offering! you're getting excited too, i know it. because how can you not be excited by something so cute?

hahaha. yeah. cute indeed. and not only have i been working on class samples for you, but don't forget i've got a craft fair happening in a week! what, me busy? never. ha.

one class i'm excited about is the sock class this summer. i honestly think that everyone should have a pair of socks on the go. they're so light, you can do whatever you want... and perfect warm-weather knitting. really, there are no arguments here. and i'm just swooning over the yarn options. you all know i'm a big fan of sweet georgia....

seriously. pretty. yarn. gah. i love. the yarns pictured are the ginger, and cypress...

so happy for the weekend! but i'll be just as busy on the weekend as during the week :) i tell myself though, you reap what you sow. hard work will always pay off! you just have to keep at it.

i'm so sad to be missing out on knit night this week, as well as our sew modern meet-up... :( i've got my 10k race on sunday! and since the race starts at 8am, knit night will keep me up too late. i always come home hopped up on coffee, and never ready to sleep until way after midnight. haha. i love my knit night girls. i'll still be knitting on saturday, of course... but just at home, when i can hopefully go to bed early ;)
i've also got a little more gardening to do! i've picked up more herbs! yippee!

what are you up to this weekend? though mine is busy, it's full of the most excellent work. family time, gardening, yarn, coffee, running... yes... only thing missing are my knit night girls... but i will make up for that. i surely will. xo

yes! i actually have cast on. ;) despite no one seeing any pictures, and the fact that i have a thousand other things to knit. hahaha (upcoming market and class samples! yippee!)
and here's the proof.

and i have to tell you, i'm loving loving how this linen is working up. i feel like this is the perfect project for it!
the only downside to this project for me, (well no there are 2). one.. i wish i could devote more time to it on a daily basis... but i do have other deadlines that are taking huge priority right now... i bet i'll have something to show you tomorrow... and two... i sooo wish i could be knitting this on my interchangeables. but with the gauge i get, i am working on a 3mm needle. i know i could probably order a 3mm tip from a different company, but i'm not going to... so that means for trying on the top... that's right. scrap yarn. boo urns.
oh well. i'll be patient with myself for that. in the meantime though, i love everything else about this! and i'm already really looking forward to wearing my gemini!

i am so inspired by all of you in the kal. i can't believe some of you are already on your second top! wahoo! you go! i really hope i'll be able to join you on the numbers game! but for now, i have to just remind myself to breathe;)
tomorrow i promise to show you a little of what's making me almost ~~panic~~ knit in my sleep;)

i just looked at the calendar, and i realized that we are in our last week of april! when did that happen!? i told you a little while back that i had some exciting news to share... well let me tell you now before it's up and happened, and becomes something of the past ;) haha.
i'm selling at another craft fair! and it's in less than two weeks. this will explain why i'm a little bit scatterbrained these days. haha.
want to know the deets? and for you locals, come visit!

i knew this event was coming up soon... just didn't really let it regestier how soon. so please excuse me while i knit like there's no tomorrow, stopping for cuddles, and coffee only. ;)

wowza. last week and the weekend just went by so so fast. seriously. in a blink of an eye, and it's monday again. and boy oh boy, do i ever hope this week moves at a slightly slower pace ;)
we filled the weekend straight up! and we even managed to stay slightly organized. ha. and now i have a lovely little garden space to relax in! :) ... yes i actually got some gardening in! (well planting, really) ;)

i'm a balcony gardner (as some of you already know)... and i really long for a yard. but i'm grateful that i can have some outdoor space anyways. there have been a few appartments in the past where balconies were out of the question... and this space is the first balcony where we can even have a bbq! and the wind isn't ripping through, so we can actually stay out there without freezing our butts off ;)
i don't get the sun though. and after 2 years of trying tomatoes, i've had to just admit it's not going to work here... next home hopefully! so this has become my herb garden!

let me tell you, it smells lovely! digging in the dirt just does a body good :) i'll probably add more basil, since i go through that like it's nobody's business, and there are still hanging baskets that will eventually go up.... but i'm really happy with how it's looking so far :)

and did you see what little pressie came in the mail for me? haha! i love it!

it's totally me. no? this lovely mug comes from winemakerssister. my pal brea thought of me, and sent this my way :) i love it! any knitterly gift that includes coffee is tops in my book! thanks so much brea! xo
i've also picked up several skeins of yarn... they've got a purpose, and i can't wait to show you what they are!

i guess i'd better get knitting... probably out on the balcony. :)

honestly this week has flown by. it's been a while since we've been this busy! there has been something up every day. and a lot of evenings too. this coffee has not kicked in yet....

i wish i could say this weekend will be nice and relaxing... haha. nice, yes.. it will be very nice... but it will be busy! we have two birthday parties to go to! to say my little man is excited is an understatement :) .. i'm kind of excited too ;)
