The world famous Pop singer Michael Jackson died at 50 years at Los Angeles, during the period when he was preparing for his come-back as a popular singer again after the break in his music career.
Michael Jackson started performing on the stage even when he was very young along with his other Jackson brothers.
Michael Jackson’s high pitch voice and his unique dance made him very popular from among his other brothers.
In the 1980’s Michael Jackson became popular as a Solo Singer in Pop music.
Michael Jackson had face bleeching and plastic surgery to change his face during the time he was becoming more and more popular.
In May 1994 Michael Jackson married Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of the Singer Elvis and the couple got separated after one and half year.
In the year 1996 Michael Jackson married his ex-dermatologist Debbie Row. The couple had two children. The couple got divorce in the year 1999.
Debbie Row left the two children at the custody of Michael Jackson. MJ also had another child named Prince Michael II. In November 2002 MJ was pictured dangling his son Prince out of the window of a Berlin hotel.

Michael Jackson’s later life was with child abuse allegations and MJ came out of the allegations by compromise with the accusers in the year 1994
Michael Jackson was making rehearsals for 50 shows for which the tickets were sold out in March 2009.

Michael Jackson’s sale was about 750 million dollars. He also has received13 Grammy Awards for his achievements in the field of music and dance.
In June 2009 Michael Jackson was under medical treatment for some skin disease. He was pictured while he was coming out of a clinic.

In July 2009 Michael Jackson's death message came as a shock to his family members and fans and the cause of his death remains still a mystery.

Dr.Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India has visited France with his wife on a five day-two nations tour to France and Egypt. Dr.Singh arrived at Paris on 13th July 2009 when he was given a warm welcome.

Dr.Singh has attended this year’s Bastille day Parade of France held at Champs Elysees in Paris at France as the Chief Guest along with his wife, which was described by Dr.Singh as a honour to the people of India.

According to Dr.Singh India and France enjoy a close and wide-ranging strategic partnership and the relations of India with France encompass a large number of areas and have served our national interests well.

On 14th July 2009 Dr.Singh will attend the 15th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit to be held at Egypt.

The funeral and memorial function of Michael Jackson, the demised King of Pop were held in a grand manner on 7th July 2009 at Los Angeles. In the Memorial Service and the funeral function of Michael Jackson:-

Berry Gordy, who signed The Jacksons- 5 in 1968 paid his tribute to MJ and said that Michael Jackson was the greatest entertainer that ever lived.

Michael Jackson's casket sat in front of the stage.

The Jackson brothers, Randy, Marlon, Jackie, Jermaine and Tito, accompanied the casket.

Singer Lionel Richie performed.

Musician Stevie Wonder performed.

Mariah Carey and Trey Lorenz sang "I'll Be There".

The funeral procession of Michael Jackson arrived at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Supported by her family, Paris Jackson spoke.

Andrae Crouch Singers opened the memorial service.

Paris Jackson, Prince Michael Jackson I and Prince Michael Jackson II were on stage.

Members of the media worked in front of the Staples Center.

The funeral procession, including a hearse carrying the body of Michael Jackson at center, arrived outside Staples Center.

Expansion of Airports in Tamilnadu

The Tamil Nadu government is in the process of acquiring land for expansion and modernisation of metro and non-metro airports in the state. The state capital has grown as a hub for manufacturing sectors like automobiles, electronic, hardware and IT and the state has turned out to be an important destination for foreign tourists, resulting in increased cargo and passenger traffic in the Chennai airport.

The government has decided to go for modernisation and expansion of Chennai airport in coordination with the government of India. The Airports Authority of India (AAI), which is undertaking the modernisation programme which will be completed by the year 2010.

Acquiring land for the proposed expansions of Chennai Airport is in process. Also there are plans for the expansion of Airports at Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Tuticorin and Salem.

Heroes in Tamil Cinema will sing in their own voices

In those days the heroes of Tamil Cinema used to sing the songs with their own voice. In fact, only persons who can sing in their own voices had the chance of becoming heroes. Thiagaraj Bhagavathar, PU Chinnappa, TR Mahalingam are some of the popular heroes of those days who sang in their own voices and dominated in the field of cinema.

Slowly the trend changed and heroes sang the songs in the films with dubbed voices. Voice dubbing was even used for speech and the languages bar was overcome by dubbing voices to the heroes and heroines.

Nowadays, again there seems to be a change in the trend and Music Directors are trying to make the heroes sing in their own voices.

Recently, Music Devi Sri Prasad made his hero Vikram to sing all the songs in the film “Kanthaswamy”.Devi Prasad is trying to make Surya to sing the songs in “Singam” to be directed by Hari.

Singing of the heroes in their own voices will give additional publicity to the films of course at the cost of the chance to the play back singers.

Asias Largest Blood Bank To come in Chennai

Asia’s largest blood bank will be soon set up in Chennai with storage space for more than 2 lakh units of blood and a facility to extract protein from blood plasma. The Blood Bank will be situated in 65,000 sq.ft. at a cost of Rs 400 Crores. The Blood Bank will be on a 10 acre land situated adjacent to the Government General Hospital.

The facility to extract protein from blood plasma is significant because the protein, called immunoglobulin, acts as an antibody. Immunoglobulin therapy provides life-saving treatment for:-

pregnant women
patients with nerve disorders
patients with liver cirrhosis
cancer patients
hepatitis patients

Presently, protein is imported and costs more than Rs 3 lakh for five vials. In some cases, patients who cannot afford this are treated with a finer grade of plasma cells that are closest to protein.

A Proposal to Reform School Education System in India

Mr.Kapil Sibal, the Union Human Resources Development Minister has announced a proposal to replace all state level boards of education in India by a single board of education and to make the Class 10 examination optional to the students.

The examinations of 10th standard cannot be completely removed for a number of reasons.Those students who do not intend to leave school or change schools after Class 10 should not have to appear for the 10th Standard board examinations. For them internal assessments should be enough to move up to Class 11.

This reform in the Indian School education system may take a year or two to be implemented. Also there are plans to introduce a “Grade based Assessment System” to replace the present procedure of Marks.

The Central Board of Secondary Education will be the first board to introduce such a grading system in the country. The government will also explore the possibility of setting up an independent accreditation body for schools to ensure quality.

"The Pop-King"- Michael Jackson expired on 25th June 2009. Jackson was taken to a hospital as he was having breathing trouble and he was in a deep coma when he breathed his last due to cardiac arrest, as confirmed by doctors. Jackson was to just complete his 50 years of age within another 2 months.

Michael Jackson had been due to start a series of concerts in London on July 13 running until March 2010 and he had been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months.

His lifetime record sales tally will be around US$ 750 million with the 13 Grammy Awards he received, making him one of the most successful entertainers of all time.

Micaheal Jackson was born on 29th August1959, as the seventh of nine children. Five Jackson boys, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael, first performed together at a talent show when Michael was just six years old.

Jackson made his first solo album in 1972, and released "Thriller" in 1982, which became a smash hit that yielded seven top-10 singles. The album sold 21 million copies in the United States and at least 27 million worldwide. The next year, he unveiled his signature "moonwalk" dance move while performing "Billie Jean" during an NBC special.

Why Indian Cricket Team failed to enter Semi Finals in T20 World Cup

Budget Session of the Parliament of India

The budget session of Parliament in India will commence from 2nd July 2009 to 7th August 2009 and the General Budget for 2009-10 will be presented to the Lok Sabha on 6th July 2009. The Railway Budget will be presented by Railway Minister Ms.Mamata Banerjee on 3rd July 2009. 7. The Economic Survey of India also will be presented during the present session. This will be the first budget of the UPA Government in its second term.

The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh has advised the Finance Ministry to ensure that the budget should reflect adequately and appropriately the priorities of the Government set out in the President’s address in the Joint sitting of the Parliament. The priorities include:-

The "H1N1 Influenza", the so called "Swine Flu" is still spreading and in India. The number of persons found positive for H1N1 Flu is increasing day by day.
Persons returning from USA, especially students traveling for their studies and researches to and fro USA have been affected by the virus flu.

The Indian Union Health Minister Mr. Gulam Nabi Azad has advised travelers to the flu affected countries from India, especially to USA to suspend their trips and postpone for 2 or 3 months until the disease is brought under control globally.

Oscar Award Winner- The Man of Music AR Rahman has disapproved his biography written by Kamini Mathai and he has declared that it is not his authorized biography.

The book by Kamini titled “ A R Rahman-The Musical Storm” is marketed as the first authorized biography of AR Rahman.

However, according to AR Rahman it is incorrect to say it is his authorized biography. In fact, he has plans to write his autobiography.

AR Rahman is not in favour of attempts made by people to encash his name and fame consequent to his Oscar winnings. He dislikes the way his song “Jai Ho” being used for political and electoral purposes.

Ms.Meira Kumar unanimously elected as Speaker of Lok Sabha

Union Minister of Water Resources in UDA Government, Ms.Meira Kumar of Indian National Congress has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. Ms.Meira Kumar is the first woman Speaker of Lok Sabha. The name of Ms.Kumar was proposed by Ms.Sonia Gandhi and seconded by Mr.Pranab Mukerjee and approved by voice votes by the members of the Parliament unanimously.

Supreme Court Bench observes Persons behind Dowry Deaths should be hanged

On 25th April 2006, the sessions court in Bhiwani, Haryana, India had convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment Prem Kumar Gulati, his wife Bimla and Mahender Kumar Gulati for the murder of Rajani who, according to the prosecution, was set ablaze on 9th December 2003. Later, she succumbed to the burns.

In this case, the victim, Rajani, in her dying declaration, had accused her husband Mahender Kumar Gulati, his elder brother Prem Kumar Gulati and Prem Kumar’s wife of constantly harassing her and then setting her ablaze after pouring kerosene oil over her at their house in Haryana's Bhiwani district.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court confirmed the sentence, and the criminal appeals filed by the two brothers have been pending in the apex court. Since Bimla had died during the pendency of the trio's appeal in the high court, the case against her has abated.

Justice Markandeya Katju of the Supreme Court on Monday observed that no mercy should be shown to the people behind dowry deaths, adding that they should be hanged. The Supreme Court Bench comprising Justices Markandeya Katju and Deepak Verma observed, "In India, hundreds of innocent women are being burnt to death. It is an uncivilised act. How can we do it? We should hang such persons."

The Supreme Court Bench wanted to issue notice to the accused Prem Gulati as to why life imprisonment should not be enhanced to death sentence. "We will issue notice as to why the punishment should not be enhanced to death," the Bench told the counsel, but later advised him to move some other Bench for securing bail to the convict.

Statutory Pictorial Warnings on Cigarettes and Tobacco products Implemented

In India, to discourage smokers and users of other tobacco products, rules/laws were formulated in the year 2006,making it compulsary for the manufacturers, to print pictorial warnings on Cigarettes and other tobacco products, under the “Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003”.

However its implementation was postponed thrice. Finally,it is being implemented on the "World No Tobacco Day", on 31st May 2009, following a Supreme Court order, made on 6th May 2009.

Originally the pictures of “Skull and Bones” and “Dead Foetus” were suggested for printing on Cigarettes and other tobacco products. Now the manufacturers of cigarettes and other tobacco products must print on their products pictures of “Lungs and an x-ray” for cigarette packets and a “Scorpion” on others.
For violation of the above rules of printing pictorial warnings of tobacco products the manufacturers, dealers, distributors and retail sellers will be prosecuted with fine and imprisonment. For repeated violation of the rules the punishments will be more severe. However, it has to be seen how effectively the rule/law is going to be implemented in the days to come.

Experts feel that the printing of pictorial warnings will definitely have a good effect in discouraging the use of cigarettes and other tobacco products.

Mr.M.K.Stalin elevated as Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu

Mr.M.K.Stalin has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu by the Chief Minister Mr.M.Karunanidhi. Mr. Stalin has been looking after the Rural Development and Local Adminstraion. He will be in charge of the portfolios of Industry, General Administration, District Revenue Officers and Minority Welfare which were hitherto under the Chief Minister Mr.M.Karunanidhi in addition to Rural Development and Local Administration.

Mr. Stalin is also the head of the Youth Wing of the party DMK.
He had been the Mayor of Chennai from 1996 to 2001 and he is known for his organizational and administrative skills.

It is notable that this elevation of Mr.Stalin has taken place immediately after his elder brother Mr.M.K.Azhagiri has been sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in Dr.Manmohan Singh’s cabinet of UDA Government supported and participated by DMK.
